The Week Ahead: Health care decision coming

A health care decision from the Supreme Court, Obama raises money from Boston to Miami, a new national NBC/WSJ poll and NBC/Marist polls in New Hampshire, Ohio, and Michigan, and Andy gets vetted – apparently.

It'll be a push - The SC will accept some of it, and then reject some of it to be sent back for revisions. By the time any revisions are re-submitted, the election cycle will be over, and the SC will have avoided a political @!$%# storm......Win/Win for everybody

This should be interesting because Obamacare contains NO SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. If part of it goes down, then all of it goes down. Without the "purchase or be fined mandate" the bill becomes a House of Cards with the Supreme Court ready to pull out the card on which all the others rest.

This law was a turd to begin with, establishing something like 159 agencies, bureaus, commissions and boards just to administer the darn thing. Be merciful, be merciful to U.S. citizens ..... pull out the bottom card, let it fall and flush it ! It raised billions in sneaky little taxes and it did nothing to reduce the cost of health care here in the U.S. All this law did was create another welfare vehicle for Uncle Sam to screw up !

Several things to note --

1) The mandate in the ACA is not enforceable. If folks don't pay the small fine, nothing will happen to them. This is why the insurance companies bailed at the end. They thought everyone would be forced to buy their insurance. But because the mandate is not really a mandate, who knows what the SCOTUS will do with it.

2) Aside from ACA creating savings to the budget, there are already many who are enjoying the benefits, for example the elderly and Medicare Part D. The best part of all is the requirement for insurance companies to use 80% of your premiums for actual health care -- So over 1 billion in refund checks are to be sent out to folks...unless the SCOTUS wants to take the heat for ending all this.

3) And most of all, despite what rightwingers believe, progressives are hoping the mandate is thrown out so they can pursue single payer. Single payer is what we really need and want, and organizations are ready to go.

Rightwingers, do research on Romneycare. Every time they considered an idea without pooling everyone (i.e., a mandate) it became a rabbit hole of loopholes and unintended consequences. Teapublicans love to say "repeal and replace" but if you string together video of rightwing leaders you see one talking about an Exchange (like ACA), another talking about ending discrimination against preexisting conditions (like ACA), and by the end of it all you have "Obamacare."

So you see rightwingers, it doesn't really matter what lies you believe. We need healthcare reform, and we will have reform, and it may actually be single-payer sooner than later as it always should have been.

Yeah Smitty Monday:

The Justice Department has retracted a second statement made to congressional investigators in the course of their probe into the failed Operation Fast and Furious.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced the retraction Wednesday morning just as a House committee meeting considering contempt proceedings against Attorney General Eric Holder got underway.

In a letter Monday, the department stated that Holder “inadvertently” said during a Senate committee hearing last week that his predecessor, then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey, had been briefed about a tactic known as gun-walking in a federal program known as Operation Wide Receiver -- which bared similarities to Fast and Furious.

Me, too, Jody! Just in from "horsing around". I really do the care for my fearless steed, unlike Annie Romney.

What oh what have we learned? Been a lot of fun watching Mittens stammer around trying to defend his outsourcing of American jobs. He got pretty good at it by all reports, you'd think he would be ashamed, not very patriotic and all that, but feckless Mittens says "that's why I'm the guy to vote for I know how to create jobs more than anybody in this world. (But, ahem, do try not to notice that the jobs I created were for foreign countries and not Americans.) " You see, the goal Mittens had was to make money for himself and a limited group of investors, not Joe and Joan America. He doesn't like those people too much. They get in his way, you know, expecting a living wage and all that. Why, foreigners will work for SLAVE wages (because a bunch of them are) and know better than to ask for a day off, or to see a doctor, or to work less than 12 hours a day.

But, as long as it goes to feed Annie's Dressage horse, I guess all is fair in love, and well, jobs. All those trainers, professional riders, training barns, and tack come dear. I am sure that Rafalca, or (whatever his name is) has a saddle built, with the tree made to fit just him. Gotta be over a few thousand for that!

And we see a re reg at 2.12. Amazing how many folks waste that much energy on conspiracy theories. But, again, it proves the research. Fringe Conservatives have larger areas in their brains that promote anxiety and fear. Doesn't leave much room for real thought or learning. Paranoia is comforting for those folks, kind of like a wet diaper, until it starts to stink up your life. But, help can be had for those that want it.

My thanks to my hosts. Been an interesting week. Hope you all enjoyed the first day of summer!

Feisty, Jody, IR, let's get this party ROCKING!

NDD, I was working in the garden and enjoying the much cooler day.

WCA, so what? It should come as no surprise than one AG would not necessarily know every aspect of any person's previous comments off the top of their head. I commend Holder and the staff for correcting any misstatements.

Mitt Romney had a horrible, awful, very bad week. He refuses to answer questions about his views because he either has none or is the cowardly lion. Mitch McConnell is hanging on a Mitt limb having assumed Romney would tell the GOP what they are supposed to think about immigration--never mind that Mitt has no clue what he thinks. Rubio found out through a Mitt-leak that he is not being seriously vetted for VP. Darryl Issa has made a mockery of Congress and hung that gem right around Romney's neck because, according to McConnell. Romney gave a speech at NALEO to polite applause having avoided addressing their concerns. Throw in a secret weekend retreat for the rich and famous to remind voters that Mitt feels their pain, the pain of the poor rich folks who need more tax cuts, that is.

Great week for team Obama!!!

Not so good for Romney and Co. But they will be cocooned in Utah planning their strategy and stroking their superpac mafia money guys.

Heard part of Rubio's speech on radio driving home.He sure has a high pitched whiny voice which made his bashing Obama sound even more whiny.

Meanwhile, off to the DDI where the party I see has already started. The jokes are funny, the beer is ice cold and the music rocking.

thanks for all on FR, hosts, posters, for another ride on the vine.

P.S. I think it is hilarious that Spanky is in Cancun when the SCOTUS gives their ruling.

My thanks to our hosts for another great week, just wish I had more time to post but do read as much as possible. I have come to the conclusion that in this country, there are many on the right who suffer from some sort of mental illness. Not sure whether the politics cause the phenomenon or their seeming illness makes the politics crazy. Either way, there is a definite lack of common sense and education.

Friends, have a great weekend......keep the flag flying.

Off topic slightly, but it's kinda cool to see Lynn University here in Boca Raton already making preparations for the third and final Presidential debate, which they will host. Supposedly, members of the press will outnumber students by a 4-1 ratio. Kinda fascinating to read about the kind of things they need to worry about when hosting an event like this. Sadly, tickets to the debate are not available to the public! :-( However, several cities down here are planning viewing parties. Will have to keep my eyes out for our First Read hosts!! :-)

I have a feeling we're all going to be a bit disappointed when the news comes out.

Personally, I'm against the mandate, but would like the other provisions in the ACA to remain.

It's a good start at reform that's sorely needed.

I'm not that optimistic, and whatever decision is made, either side will blow the whole thing out of proportion.

Until they live with the @!$%# we live with, they will never understand, or be able to do it right.

I suspect the mandate was included, to trick the insurance companies into having their paid for republicans to pass the bill. It wouldn't surprise me if some Constitutional Law Professor on the Obama team, knew the SCOTUS would strike it, and let the rest stand.

There is much to be admired about the US that's for sure.

Looking on from abroad however it is difficult to understand how Congressmen (One awaits the Judges' decision but they enjoy the same benefit) who have access to the best healthcare in the US if not the world as part of their compensation package paid for by the US taxpayer stridently decry an attempt to have all Americans access a minimum standard of healthcare and so many taxpayers complain about the benefit being extended to them (the taxpayers) but not about the legislators (or the Judges ?).

Perhaps you have to be an American to really understand and I do not mean this in any derogatory sense.

Romney does what is best for him , always.
Veterans, military retirees; note that Romney PROMOTED THE DRAFT, then skipped out to France for extraordinary lenth of time when church missionary tours were limited. When Romney came home, he sided with his dad that the whole Viet Nam War was a scam and that he was against the war. His early flip flops, he is good at.
Promoting the draft, while Americans were dieing, he skipped out, then says he wishes he could have participated. Pro church, Anti Americam.
