Obama: The president's turn before NALEO

The Tampa Bay Times’ Smith previews Obama’s speech: “Obama will have some explaining to do, even with the heavily Democratic crowd at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) conference in central Florida. He last addressed the group in 2008, vowing that comprehensive immigration reform ‘is a priority I will pursue from my very first day.’ It never happened.”

Ahead of Obama’s speech, there’s a new Latino Decicisions poll of Latinos in the swing states of Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Virginia. “In Florida, the poll found Obama leading Romney by a margin of 53% to 37%, a slight increase from a 50% to 40% lead Obama held over Romney in a January 2012 Latino Decisions/Univision News poll in Florida.  In the five states combined Obama lead Romney 63% to 27%, however in southwestern battlegrounds of Arizona, Colorado and Nevada Obama performed even better.  In Arizona Obama received 74% to 18% for Romney, in Colorado he was favored by 70% to 22% and in Nevada 69% to 20%.  In Virginia, Obama lead 59% to 28% over Romney among Latino registered voters.”

USA Today: “The darkening clouds of the slowing economy could provide a bright spot for consumers: gasoline at $3 a gallon — or less — by autumn.”

The Tampa Bay Times editorial page calls House Republicans’ contempt effort “hyperpartisan grandstanding. But President Barack Obama's response — to shield Justice Department records from the public's view — is not defensible and undermines the rule of law. The administration should turn over the documents in question or provide further justification for withholding them. The president is not above the law, and his claims of executive privilege will not, and should not, suffice.”

It concludes: “House Republicans should drop the political theater and resume negotiations with the Justice Department. The Obama administration should make good on its promise of transparency, or better explain itself to the American people.”

The Washington Post’s Greg Sargent interviewed Obama’s pollster, who cautioned against obsessing over every horserace poll. “The only thing that’s bouncing around are the public polls,” pollster Joel Benenson told Sargent. “The electorate doesn’t bounce around like that. It’s more static than the noise in all these polls. If you watch the electorate over time, they don’t jump up and down. This is a process.”

Yes Hispanics!,Just look what Mr. Obama has Done For you! Why He has deported more Hispanics Than Any other President in less than one term! His "Justice Department" has smuggled THOUSANDS of weapons into Your countries to give to Drug Cartels , that have killed HUNDREDS of Your People!, and those Weapons are still there!, Yes, truely a gift that keeps on giving!, and now, in an election year, He has issued an Executive Order, a Document that has all the strength of another one of his PROMISES because it can be rescinded at any time, he has PROMISED Young Latinos that they can stay,.............for Two years,...........until after the election,.........maybe,and sure,he didn't pass the Dream Act when he had the chance, and make no mistake, He COULD Have used the same tactics to pass it that he did to pass ObamaCare, if He had really wanted to,but if He PROMISES in his next term He'll get right on that for You,........Yeah!....... PROMISE!,.........REALLY!

I know many legal hispanic cititzens of the this great country, and they all know that everything Obama touches turns to poison, including his so called 'immigration reform'!

Give illegal residents citizenship after they have completed the legal registration process... NOT before!

I'm not hispanic, but I also agree that Obama's policies have hurt American not helped America! Dump him in November and stop his systematic destructions of our freedoms!

"House Republicans should drop the political theatre and negotiate with the Justice Department"

Really ? How long do they "negotiate" with a DOJ intent on obstruction ?? Some of these document requests go back 14 or 15 months already. You simply cannot "negotiate" with a stone wall ... that is precisely why they call it STONEWALLING !!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if MSDNC has "edited" the Tampa article and presented what they wanted to show ! They have a nasty little habit of doing just that !!

you either don't know what you are talking about or you purposely misinform. Please show me where Obama is giving anyone here illegaly citizenship before anything!

it will let them apply for a deferral of their would-be deportation for a period of two years -- if they meet certain conditions.

the individual must have arrived in the United States before the age of 16 and be no more than 30 years old; they have to have been in the country continuously for at least five years prior to the announced policy; and they must be enrolled in school, a high school graduate, or an honorably discharged member of the U.S. military.

it will provide temporary work permits and a right to remain in the United States during that time for youth who qualify

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show me this automatic granting of citizenship to illegals!!!! You must have proof because I know you would not say something that is not true!

they should know the process inside out, jim, since they used it themselves 6 times under Bush. They could call Karl Rove and he will walk them right through the process.

I have a feeling you really count on his handouts so you don't have to work either!

and you assume that because you're a bigot?

Yup, Obama is doing just fine, just like the private sector! LMAO!

considering that the private sector is raking up record profits, sitting on record cash, and the stock market is doing excellent compared to 2008, I would say the private sector is fine.

I'm sorry, what have the Republicans do again to create JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!???Apparently, even the Republicans can't answer that.

Bloomberg’s Al Hunt asked Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) — who represented the GOP on the fiscal supercommittee that failed to craft a deficit reduction package — to explain this viewpoint, considering that more jobs were created under the Clinton administration and its higher taxes on the rich than were created following the Bush tax cuts. Upton admitted that “I don’t know specifically the answer to that question,” nonsensically pointing to Friday’s jobs report instead of trying to argue the premise of Hunt’s question:

HUNT: But I’m asking, why did the economy grow a lot? Why were more jobs created in the previous decade under higher taxes than in this decade under lower taxes?

UPTON: I don’t know specifically the answer to that question. I can – I can maybe merit a guess. But, I mean, in large part is because our job – we lost jobs. I mean, look at the jobs report that came out this last week, three-hundred- some-thousand people actually stopped looking for jobs.

Yet Romney wants MORE TAX CUTS!!!!!!

bayllie -- Until righwingers shut off the FOX/Hate Radio propaganda machine, the rest of the nation must be vigilant in correcting the lies. In listening to Limbaugh rant about Fast and Furious, it was so off-base and so outrageous I knew that he knows the truth and sat up all night thinking of lies to counter the truth. But these posters in FR will just keep grasping at straws in the meantime.

When Hispanics stop to realize that when this man made his last PROMISE to them back in 2008, that he would get right on immigration reform, all those Hispanics that HE has deported since then , more than any other President, were among the ones HE made his PROMISE TO back then!, and now, HE comes back to them with more.......PROMISES,........well,............ People are smart, They can figure out pretty fast who is telling Them lies.

Question..... Why is M Rubio not invited to Utah for the republicans secret fundraiser? They don't want him there...they've pushed him to pander in front of the Hispanic Convention today before President Obama's speech.

Obama/Biden in 2012 and an all female Democratic House and Senate/State and Federal levels. Women care about their family's and households wellbeing and their men having jobs to help support the family....Democratic females will help President Obama and VP Joe Biden get this country back on the right track.

I take it you are a feminist extremist. All females ?

You get this country back on the right track with a plan to reduce the wastefulness that IS government. Obama is an extreme libtard who wants to expand government as rapidly as possible, but has no plans and no budget to figure out how to pay for it.

That is why the U.S. is $16 trillion in debt and the financial markets are shaky a$ he11 !!!

This is the sum total of what Obama will do for Hispanic voters - talk at them. It's sad, but until the polls show that minorities can get mad at Obama for ignoring their plight and vote against him, he has no motivation to actually do anything that will help them.

He "reached out" to Hispanic voters four years ago, he is now "reaching out" again, but he completely ignored their needs in the interim.
