Daily Kos:

1) Rep. Darrell Issa voted "yes" specifically to Fund: "Project Gunrunner" in June 2008.

2) In January 2008: ATF went to Congress and asked Congress to Fund Project Gunrunner for 3 years.

3) In 2008, HR-6028 combined "Project Gunrunner" with the "Merida Initiative" also known as the "Merida Program."

4) The Title of the Bill HR-6028 is: Assistance for Mexico and Central America for Anti-Drug Programs (Merida Program)

The notion that Darrell Issa had never heard of Project Gunrunner is bullsh!t since Issa voted "yes" to specifically fund Project Gunrunner in 2008.

Ah shucks - no cover up? I wanted to hear more about that super top secret Obama plan to attach cute little parachutes to AK-47s and air drop them around the country with a post-it note attached that when held up to the mirror and by using special ink, hypnotizes the reader with the instruction "Shoot thy neighbor", leading to an American massacre, so that Obama can implement Marshal Law, overturn the 2nd amendment, and instruct the National Guard to take away all our guns.

Wowza - talk about a Smoking Gun.

I had forgotten about the segment Rachel showed last night; remember when she went to Alaska a few years ago and people there were protesting against Holder because he voted for taking away people's guns? And Rachel had to tell them that Holder was never an elected official.

And after questioning them time and time again about what Holder had done against gun owners, they couldn't give an answer.

Well, I can't say for sure, but I know he's against guns!

Bob - it is all in the question. Who wouldn't support an effort to remove non- U.S. citizens form the voter roll? My question to Scott is how did non U.S. citizens get on the voter rolls to begin with? Does Florida have a history of registering non-citizens to vote. If that is the case, Florida should be excluded from all Federal elections.

As you may know, there has been an effort by Governor Scott to remove people from the state's voter rolls who are suspected of not being U.S. citizens. Some people say this effort is needed to prevent voter fraud. Others say this effort is intended to suppress turnout by low-income people and minorities. Do you support or oppose Governor Scott's effort to remove potential non-citizens from the registered voter rolls?

The number of guns that "walked" under Operation Gunrunner does not even come close to the number that "walked" under Operation Fast and Furious. There are also over a hundred dead by the guns that "walked" as a result of Fast and Furious, including two federal law enforcement officers. I guess protecting a Democrat President is more important to the libs than getting answers so that this does not happen again.

Fast and Furious and Operation Wide Reciever were both part of Project Gunrunner. The difference between OWR and F&F was that the Mexican government knew about and participated in OWR, but F&F was done without their knowledge and blessing. The YouTube link proves that The 0bama Administration and the DOJ were well aware of Project Gunrunner. It was expanded upon with $10 million ARRA (Stimulus) funds. Whether or not that means the 0bama administration knew about F&F....well....we now know that Holder knew and lied to the Congressional Committee. Maybe that is what is in the withheld documents. Who knows.

    Oh, and Pat -

Of course Issa knew about Project Gunrunner. Everyone knew that it spawned Operation Wide Reciever. What he didn't know about was F&F, which was a "secret" operation under Gunrunner. So you see, that doesn't mean he knew anything about F&F. Similarly, Just because the 0bama administration knew about Project Gunrunner doesn't necessarily prove that they knew about F&F. However, the continous stonewalling by Holder (this investigation started 18 months ago) and now the executive privilege certainly makes one wonder.....

Look, you`ve got a dead Federal Officer who`s family is demanding answers for.Their not going away and apparently neither is Darrell Issa.

Either release the documents and allow the chips to fall where they may or watch the conspiracy crowd eat Holder / Obama for lunch.

      It`s that simple.

        #1.29 - Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:09 PM EDT

Holy f-n cow, the rightwingers don't know when to stop. Darrell Issa asks Eric Holder to break the law in order to provide requested information, and when the president protects executive powers as any POTUS of either Party would do, these bloviating ignoramuses go into full douchebag mode. Well what would we expect from Mr. No Ethics Issa?

But let's step back a bit and review the conspiracy theory started by a wacko blogger. Who if I recall correctly is on SS Disability government teat, who's first claim to fame was inciting violence that resulted in bricks thrown through Dem offices -- including Gabby Gifford's office... That FOX Noise is now posing as an "Internet Journalist" and "expert" on Fast and Furious. You gotta be kidding, WTF?

Certain rightwing trolls and fans in here, who clearly marinate in FOX/Hate Radio juices all day every day really need to check out Stephen Colbert's satire on Fast and Furious -- How in 2006 then Senator Obama hypnotized Bush to get Eric Holder to get the ATF to get agents to get gun sellers to get guns (Operation Wide Receiver) to the Mexico drug cartels so that later they could use the death of an agent as an excuse to take away everyone's second amendment rights. Riiiight (NOT).

Don't give us this crap about a dead agent, since Issa and his witch-hunting mob care less about the agent. They aren't investigating the death. They aren't investigating anything, otherwise they would call witnesses from the Bush administration going back to the beginning of these programs. And don't give us crap about "transparency" when Republicans are blocking efforts to make donors to Super PAC 501(c)s public. You righties wouldn't know what "values" were if these bit you in the arse. Worse, you have no Rule of Reason.

Now we might excuse posters here for wearing their tinfoil hats too tight, but there is NO excuse for this stupidity from Issa, Jeff Sessions, Chuck Grassley and a whole slew of other Teapublican idiots in Congress. No one is a "baby killer," and no one is waging a "war on religion," and no is plotting to take away our gawd dang guns! And that goes for Bennett in Arizona too who now claims the president was born in Hawaii but then lied about being born in Kenya.

What is wrong with you people? Shut off the rightwing propaganda machine!

Dear, dear Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the incoming subpoena-wielding chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, was on Faux News this weekend, attacking ACORN and Attorney General Eric Holder, talking about how "corrupt" the Obama administration is. I thought I'd take the opportunity to remind people just who's lecturing us on morality. Via Wikipeda:

A retired Army sergeant claimed that Issa stole a Dodge sedan from an Army post near Pittsburgh in 1971. The sergeant said he recovered the car after confronting and threatening him.

Issa denied the allegation and no charges were filed.

In 1972, Issa and his brother allegedly stole a red Maserati sports car from a car dealership in Cleveland.

He and his brother were indicted for car theft, but the case was dropped.

That same year, Issa was convicted in Michigan for possession of an unregistered gun. He received three months probation and paid a $204 fine.

[...] On December 28, 1979, Issa and his brother allegedly faked the theft of Issa's Mercedes Benz sedan.

Issa and his brother were charged for grand theft auto, but the case was dropped by prosecutors for lack of evidence.

Later, Issa and his brother were charged for misdemeanors, but that case was not pursued by prosecutors.

Issa accused his brother of stealing the car, and said that the experience with his brother was the reason he went into the car alarm business.

A day after a court order was issued, giving Issa control of automotive alarm company A.C. Custom over an unpaid $60,000 debt, Issa allegedly carried a cardboard box containing a handgun into the office of A.C. Custom executive, Jack Frantz, and told Frantz he was fired.

In a 1998 newspaper article, Frantz said Issa had invited him to hold the gun and claimed extensive knowledge of guns and explosives from his Army service.

In response, Issa said, "Shots were never fired. ... I don't recall having a gun. I really don't. I don't think I ever pulled a gun on anyone in my life."

Al - don't forget this little gem about the corrupt Issa. One thing is for sure, this grand theft auto, professional liar started his political career early. And he believes he should be trusted with confidential material. How did the man get a security clearance beyond reviewing the electricity bill for the Capital?

Issa dropped out of high school, and on his 17th birthday he enlisted for three years in the Army.[5][6] He became anExplosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician, trained to defuse bombs, having been inspired by a movie about such soldiers during World War II. He claimed his unit provided security for President Richard Nixon, sweeping stadiums for bombs prior to games in the 1971 World Series, and that he received the highest approval ratings during his service.[7]However, a 1998 investigation by the San Francisco Examiner found these claims were not true, since Nixon had not attended any of that year's World Series games. The investigation also discovered that Issa was actually transferred to asupply depot after he received an unsatisfactory evaluation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darrell_Issa

What friggin cover up are you talking about? The DOJ admitted that the ATF ran a highly dangerous operation resulting in a loss of guns, that were used to murder Mexican citizens and a border agent. The operation was shut down. The only good thing that has resulted from the entire mess is that some of the criminals have been prosecuted, and there are ongoing investigations to prosecute others. On top of that, the Attorney General in Az. in charge of running the operation was been removed from his position. Now again, what cover up?

Gee totas - since you are such an expert on this issue, I guess you support compromising ongoing criminal prosecution cases. Issa has been offered alternatives to review the documents but doesn't like the conditions. Holder is right to tell Issa to stick it up his rear-end. Issa is beyond the scope of his investigation, is spending tax payer money to create a nontroversy, and is basically on a witch hunt to score political points. This whole thing screams of McCarthyism and his hunt for reds.

But gee, when he has folks like you and your fellow Obama-haters in his back pocket, blindly following his every word and believing in all the crap posted at Fox News, well, he is justified in dragging this out beyond any reasonable form of conclusion.

Holder said he offered to turn over some of the documents sought by Issa when they met Tuesday in a final effort to resolve the dispute before Wednesday's hearing. Issa, however, said Holder put unreasonable conditions on his offer.

The department says it already has handed over more than 7,000 pages of records to House investigators and that the remaining material Issa wants could jeopardize criminal prosecutions. http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/20/politics/holder-contempt/index.html

Guns. Can you imagine? Guns. They are pretending (lying) that President Obama is going to take their guns away. And the GOP Congress believes them.

Utter contempt the GOP has for Americans. Utter contempt to put them through this. They have been bought.

Pat, isn't it amazing what these loonies on the right will believe just because they hate the President. Perhaps we should have a mental test done on these idiots who run for Congress as they are so willing to be pushed into such crazy thinking by some off the wall conspiracy theorists, how the heck do they get their voices heard.....may be the country has a mental problem on the right in general.

To tell the truth, through all the hearings and all the hoo-hah, I actually wondered long ago why the administration wasn’t claiming executive privilege. It was obvious Holder either had no clue about what his agency was doing, didn’t know the details of the program or was wanting to keep the details quiet.

That said, President Obama, while Senator, arrogantly disparaged President Bush for exercising the privilege. Using it himself now, he deserves to be called hypocrite. The truth, though, is that while running for the job, Senator Obama (like all candidates, by the way), had a lot to say and a lot to criticize. Once in the job, I think he discovered much of his criticism was misguided. I think he should have, but I wonder if he did ever call up President Bush, apologized for all the nasty assumptions he made as candidate Obama, and admitted to George W. that “wow, this job really sucks.”

Sorry Candice - Obama has been far more forthcoming with transparency of his administration. This was one of six Bush Executive Privilege Orders that is/was highly questionable.

Bush invoked executive privilege "in substance" in refusing to disclose the details of Vice President Dick Cheney's meetings with energy executives, which was not appealed by the GAO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_privilege#George_W._Bush_administration

Red. This is one of the left's tizzies I don't understand.

Vice President Cheney met with oil company executives and the purpose of the meeting was to discuss energy policy with people in the energy industry. This is really not that different from President Obama meeting with a forum of business people to discuss policy as it might pertain to businesses. I don't believe minutes of those meetings were made public.

Aside from general and blatant hatred of the V.P., why the hoo-hah around those energy meetings?

Did you read the first couple of sentences from that same wikipedia article?

President George W. Bush first asserted executive privilege to deny disclosure of sought details regarding former Attorney General Janet Reno,[2] the scandal involving Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) misuse of organized-crime informants James J. Bulger and Stephen Flemmi in Boston, and Justice Department deliberations about President Bill Clinton's fundraising tactics, in December2001.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_privilege#George_W._Bush_administration

As far as President Obama's transparency.....he promised a more open and transparent administration, but I think once he got in there he understood how that can't necessarily always be.

When you hide evidence and refuse to surrender it to the investigating agency, it leaves an impression of guilt. Perhaps what Obama has done is legal, but it is hardly the right thing to do. Someone was responsible for this failed operation. Someone gave the OK. We still do not know who. Nobody has been fired and no charges have been filed. That is either complete and utter incompetence, or a cover up in an attempt to protect people.

People have died. This is unacceptable.

The Fast & Furious debacle was done as the continuation of the program originated by the ATF during the Bush administration and ended by Eric Holder as soon as he learned of it. [It is not a conspiracy by the Obama administration to take away guns from their owners.]

AG Eric Holder refused to break the law and make public an ongoing investigation and grand jury testimony, which is protected by national law. Now Republicans want to hold him in contempt for not breaking the law or compromising an ongoing investigation. Issa is a contemptible rumor monger and liar. He refuses to even investigate the program in question. He is clearly out to scuttle Holder for putting a stay on voter suppression of seniors, students, and minorities which has been part of Republican election strategy, along with other illegal election corruption.

AffinityGW - better check your facts. The main stream media (liberal) has reported so little on this situation & if you don't get news from both sides you are uninformed. The program during the Bush administration was done in cooperation with Mexico - F & F was not. That was the first retraction the Department of Justice submitted to the House. "Eric Holder refused to break the law" - thanks for the laugh - I needed that!

            Bob,

A little neurotic? Nowhere did I say that "Bush did it". The ATF in Phoenix, Arizona was the perpetrator. The activity was largely unknown in Washington.

            Beaumont,

Eric Holder turned over 7,000 pages of investigation and records information. Your ignorance of the clear law protecting grand jury transcripts applies, without exception, to everybody from the Attorney General down to the circuit courts. It's the law, whether you like it or not. The AG is charged with following and enforcing the laws of the land. The republican catch 22 was to demand protected documents so that Holder would either break the law or be held in contempt.

The president stepped in to give holder topmost protection from the partisan witch hunt and wild theories about gun seizures. Republicans used to use surrogates to launch dirty tricks and false charges during campaigns. Now they do so at the Congressional level. Two years ago Issa announced that he would hold seven hearings a week during the forty weeks leading up to the November elections.

The media know that this is all bogus. Fox is the partner in crime on this and Republicans are on Fox frequently to completely falsify the record and lie about the entire affair. Republican gutter politics and constant lying about events is for Republicans. Independent voters and democrats are not fooled by the obstruction, lies, and sleaze of the party any more. Corruption is assumed after four nonstop years of falsehood.

Affinity - Grand jury transcripts?? No so, all they were asking for was internal documents about who knew what and when. If Holder was with holding these documents because they were protected, then he would have done so. The AG is certainly charged with following and enforcing the FEDERAL laws - why doesn't he? Instead, he just picks and chooses. Boy, you are really "belly up to the bar" of kool aid! I would think that the first time this President invokes executive privilege the media would be all over it - not so.

What you need to do is separate the opinions on Fox and the news on Fox - I will grant you that the opinions are right leaning, but the news is more just the news. The main stream media, on the other hand is definitely NOT - as I said see the video/audio reports that have been manipulated to give an impression to suit the progressive's agenda.

Maybe its because this LIE has no substance whatsoever! Focks News is as gullible as is the GOP collective. Issa goes after a black attorney general who is obviously not guilty of anything but being Obama's choice, but then tell me who in the ReSuck Party went after Bush/Chiney after they lied so they could draw the US into a war with Iraq that was unjustified and then slid over a little bit and picked a fight with Afghanistan. Both of which netted the USA absolutely NOTHING after billions spent! WAR!!! What is it good for?

If you believe that then you are well passed STUPID! Wars cost astronomical sums to engage. Guns, tanks, missiles, naval vessels, sophisticated aircraft, intelligence gathering, RECON maneuvers, tents for housing AND storage of food and arms, not to mention, the cost of outfitting EVERY soldier, marine, air force personnel, naval uniforms, health care and mobile hospital units and long term recovery hospitals, personnel side arms like M-45's, border centuries, and on and on and on! Why is the economy bad? While some of you ass-holes sit in front of your TV's rooting for John Wayne to kill all the Japs...in real life; wars cost a helluva lot of MONEY! President Obama voted NO to starting a war in Iraq...he voted no!

You both miss my greater point. Why didn't anybody go after Bush/Chiney after no WMD were ever found in Iraq? In this instance, one man was killed; sad but true, in the case of the Fake War, thousands of American lives were lost. Before Bush left office everybody knew he had lied to get us into Iraq and ultimately, into Afghanistan. Where is the public outrage? Why is no one investigating this gross miscarriage of justice? One simple answer! When blacks go looking for justice, that's what they find...just-us! Eric Holder is black and to the racist GOP, nothing else matters; well, except for the fact that a black man chose him! Please be for real!

I do not care for Eric Holder nor President Obama because of their beliefs and what they have done to this country, NOT because of their race. Who lied to whom to get us into Iraq? If my feeble brain can remember, the vote in Congress was overwhelming in favor of going in - me - I thought we needed to take care of Afghanistan before doing anything else (I just reread your post - are you saying that we went into Iraq first & then Afghanistan?? Are you saying that 9/11 did not happen? Huh??). I also seem to recall that Saddam's own generals were convinced that they had WMD and were wondering when they were going to use them against us.

Where do I begin? The bitch is Bush and always will be! Bush caused ALL of this mess and three lousy years cannot wipe out all that he corrupted in eight years. Do the math: Eight years over 3 and 1/2, now tell me, which is the longer reign? What racist ass holes YOU ALL are. Niggas always have to do above and beyond what the white man does in order to be recognized; and BTW, I PROUDLY wear my race on my sleeve because I despise white people and all that they do. And no, I ain't got to go anywhere. I fought for this country and it needs change NOT desertion!

Issa originally asked for documents that by law could not be turned over to him and he knew it! He knew the admn would have to respond in the negative and that's why he did it. He wanted everyone focusing on this issue while the folks in FL and their Govn, keep trying to ILLEGALLY purge the voter registration so that once again, they can steal FL for the GOP. Eric Holder is focused on them and they need him removed. Won't work! Now you answer this: why did Issa go around the Bush admn where the gun running maneuvers first began? How do you begin an investigation in the middle; by eliminating all other facts. Had he interviewed those from the previous admn the truth would have already surfaced. On FOX news, when asked if the Obama admn was guilty of any wrong doing, Issa had to answer "No!" What does that tell ya? Its a ho hunt and Issa and the ReSucks are the ho's!

This all seems rather simple, why all the fuss? Someone at a high level in our government authorized automatic weapons to be smuggled into Mexico by drug cartel members. It was a very stupid and incompetent plan that has cost the lives of many people on both sides of the border. This is what we all know, its an undisputed fact. The problem is the man with the ultimate responsibility over such operations, Eric Holder, has stonewalled a congressional inquiry into this tragic event. He has refused to provide documents or testimony that would
establish who made that decision. A year later, no one has been prosecuted or even fired, no one has even been identified as being the highest authority that approved that operation. We the people demand answers! People have been murdered by these weapons that were provided by our federal agents. How anyone could see this as a partisan issue is beyond comprehension.

I suppose that one could argue that Obama's refusal to release information about the F&F scandal could be to protect BATF agents involved in covert ops. I'm skeptical though, especially given another occasion when Obama virtually admitted wanting to hide information from the American people specifically because it might hurt his reelection chances. That was in his conversation with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in which Obama said, “this can be solved but it's important for him [Vladimir Putin] to give me space. This is my last election…After my election I have more flexibility.”

Obama never explained what he was planning to do, but he clearly believes that if we were to find out about it, we would fire him. I believe that his invocation of executive privilege in this case has exactly the same motivation: If the American people find out the truth, they won't vote for him.

Darryl Issa told Politico several months ago that for the fourty weeks leading up to the election, he would have a hearing every day aimed at the White House. He left the AG, Holder in a catch 22 between illegally making public grand jury transcripts and ongoing investigation information, both felonies, or facing a Contempt of Congress vote. Holder held out and did what the law requires.

Republicans were licking their chops about bringing down Holder (too clean, too determined, and too black for their liking). The President has stepped in, however, claiming Executive Privileged. Now Holder has the high ground. Republicans in Congress are left with nothing but a smear campaign, but that is always their chosen course on a regular basis. There is one bush method that Obama has wisely used on the Republicans.

Meanwhile, Issa has done no authentic investigation at all. The Phoenix Bureau of the ATF had been using gun records and distribution against the Mexican drug Cartel for many years before the Obama administration, and it was their sloppiness that brought up the bruhaha that came to the attention of Holder, and he demanded it be shut down. However, the ATF delayed and had to be ordered to end it again. How Arizona is that?

Darryl Issa is just another Republican hack trying to create trouble by ignoring the facts and spreading false accusations and conspiracy theories. Today's Republicans have no integrity left to claim. They will have fresh lies to peddle on the weekend. They seem to think the U.S. means ultimate suckers.

Ogden then details this plans that include "fortifying project Gunnrunner which is aimed at disrupting arms trafficing," and "specifically for facilitating gun tracing."
