Rubio: Obama immigration move hurts effort to pass long-term solution

Speaking with NBC’s Andrea Mitchell today, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) expressed concern over the Obama administration’s handling of immigration reform, claiming that President Obama’s executive action halting deportation of some young illegal immigrants makes it “harder to find a long-term solution to a long-term problem.”

Rubio, in an interview on MSNBC’s "Andrea Mitchell Reports," acknowledged that Obama's surprise move last week made it harder politically to pass any sort of immigration reform on Capitol Hill. Among the proposals, Rubio had until Monday been promoting a narrower version of the Democrats' DREAM Act that would have provided essentially the same benefits to young illegal immigrants.

That said, before Obama's announcement last Friday, Rubio had not yet drafted any legislation on this issue.

The Florida senator said he would “continue to formulate the idea,” but “the fact that it’s gotten all mixed up in this election year and now being used to attack Republicans has only made it harder.” Rubio's comments were in line with remarks Mitt Romney gave earlier in the day to a leading group of Latino elected officials in Florida, tying the need for immigration reforms to the lagging economy and prospects for future economic growth.

Rubio’s suggestion for finding a way forward? De-politicize the immigration debate, saying: “We have to elevate this issue. We have to say this is a humanitarian issue. We’re going to deal with this without it becoming a political ping-pong back and forth.”

Yeah Rubio, like the Republicans were going to get off their butts and work with Obama on this (or any other) issue. If you believe that, then I got some nice ocean front property in Kansas to sell you.

What's that I hear? Blame Game anyone? Blaming Obama because he took the thunder out of Rubio's dream of getting an act passed. Too bad he wasted all those years gunning for the Veep spot rather than getting the Dream Act passed.

The President's new policy is clearly pandering to get votes and does not reflect the reality of what has been done during his administration. The Huffington Post reported the following:

Deportations Of Immigrants Hits Record Number Under Obama Administration : The issue is one Obama is trying to carefully navigate in his bid for a second term as he relies on the record deportations numbers to bolster his tough-on-enforcement stance while trying to convince immigrant and Latino voters he deserves more time to get a comprehensive immigration bill through Congress.

So the Obama Administration brags about record number of deportations to look tough, but then stops just before the election to try to win back the Latino vote. That still does not change the fact that the unemployment in the Latino community rose to 11% in May and would be 16 - 17% if so many Latinos had not given up looking for work.

There's nothing like Republicans serving up a little Amnesia Tea for the American people. Rubio & Romney -- Remember the Dream Act, the one that was passed in the Dem House and by 55 votes in the Senate that the Republican minority blocked with a filibuster? Remember? Yeah, well I do, and so do a lot of other voters.

What else do you have Seeking? Quit believing everything MSNBC tells you!

A new biography of Barack Obama has established that his grandfather was not, as is related in the President's own memoir, detained by the British in Kenya and found that claims that he was tortured were a fabrication.

'Barack Obama: The Story' by David Maraniss catalogues dozens of instances in which Obama deviated significantly from the truth in his book 'Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance'. The 641-page book punctures the carefully-crafted narrative of Obama's life.

    15 Banks downgraded

    Dow down 250 points today

    Manufacturing index plummets

Unemployment forecasted to stay above 8% for the rest of the year

But MSDNC thinks the big news is a Florida Senators position on immigration! Really?

How about reporting on Obama's goal of collapsing the US economy! He sure as hell is getting the job done on that front.

Will the election come soon enough? It does not look good. Obama should be removed from office now.

As the Obama economy continues to spiral downward and Obama offers nothing but his outstretched boney finger pointing at Bush, Republicans, Tea Party, Europe, Hurricanes, and on an on the American electorate will turnout in huge numbers at the polls desperately looking for someone with vision and leadership skills, Someone with a PROVEN track record of success not someone with a FAILED record. We have to say this is a humanitarian issue.

Ok, that is priceless. GOP/TP - humanitarian issue? The only humanitarian issue the GOP tackles are those that involve squeezing money into the coffers of the wealthy. Health Care - screw yourselves. Social Security and Medicare solvency - eff off. Helping hand for the needy - not on my tax dime. Civil rights equality - Never. Pro-Choice - that vagina is mine to control, not yours.

Yeesh, humanitarian issue indeed. If Rubio wants issued handled humanely, he will need to switch parties like he switches religions, and become a democrat.

Both of the Dems and the Repubs are playing for political points, changing their positions around to follow where the wind blows. Between the two of them, nothing will change. Have an impact ! Send 'em a message. Vote for Governor Gary Johnson- the Libertarian Candidate for President. Just how much effort did Congress, specifically the Republicans, make toward long term resolution to the immigration issue before Obama's statement? There has been more done to "escort" illegals back accross the border during Obama's Administration than any since Reagan gave them blanket amnesty back in the 80s.

But short memory is a convenient thing during election year isn't it?

Not sure about Mr Johnson, but I'm reasonably hopeful Mr Paul will steal votes from Obama.

Centric democrats realize he's a nightmare, but can't bring themselves to vote for Romney.

So rather than either voting for more bad dreams, or not voting at all...

Ergo, Mr Paul, waiting in the wings.

Republicans think that you have forgotten two things:

      1. The Fast & Furious debacle was done as the continuation of the program originated by the ATF during the Bush administration and ended by Eric Holder as soon as he learned of it. [It is not a conspiracy by the Obama administration to take away guns from their owners.]

      2. The Democrats passed the Dream Act in the house two years ago. It also was favored in the Senate by 55 votes to 45, but Republicans filibustered the bill out of existence. [The claim that the Obama administration has not done a thing about presenting legislation is a often heard lie by Republicans. They have done the same lying about administration budgets and jobs bills. Obstruct and lie is not moral or respectable for the Republican Syndicate]

AG Eric Holder refused to break the law and make public an ongoing investigation and grand jury testimony, which is protected by national law. Now Republicans want to hold him in contempt for not breaking the law or compromising an ongoing investigation. Issa is a contemptible rumor monger and liar. He refuses to even investigate the program in question. He is clearly out to scuttle Holder for putting a stay on voter supression of seniors, students, and minorities which has been part of Republican election strategy, along with other illegal election corruption.

Rubio is so wrapped up in his own toilet paper, he hasn't the slightest idea of zipping up or down. Marco Rubio thinking he and his confrontational TEA party are the ones to make the decisions. The TEA-Republican party has not worked with but against Obama in every way they could since Obama beat McCain. It has been my contention that the bigotry and prejudice have devastated decency in America just for one reason. It matters little his Hispanic background he has been cultivated by the extremes of Florida and has no inkling of the real Hispanic/Latino views, pains or tribulations across the nation. Rubio has no idea of how to portray himself and probably can't speak Spanish or know the trials and tribulations of Mexican's, Puerto Ricans or Central American's. The best way to get "Thew Dream Act"passed is to elect Democrats into office locally, at the state level and on the national scene. The concentration of wealth in the hands of fewer and fewer people and the concentration of power in stricter less compassionate hands has definite consequences. Worsening wealth inequality by race is real. Blacks have been saying this for years. Now Hispanics are entering into the conversation saying the same thing. Even the unemployment rates show the widening disparagement. Now that's news!

Ron Paul is an MD and unless he has become a traitor to that profession that made him rich and loved by patients, he took an oath "to do no harm" to fellow Americans and that is all of them. By that alone it means he will not agree with many far right policies and leaders in the GOP. He may want to cut back government, but he supposedly is a very humane person if he is a real MD still. Just like democrats are to repubs, he is their subconscious that haunts them to be humane and they are going nuts dealing with their own souls because we and Ron are driving them nuts and shaming them.
