Romney accuses Obama of taking Latino vote 'for granted'

ORLANDO, FL -- Speaking to a crowd of hundreds at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference here, Mitt Romney criticized President Obama for putting immigration reform on the backburner and for taking the Latino vote "for granted."

Obama addresses the conference tomorrow.

"For two years, this president had huge majorities in the House and Senate -- he was free to pursue any policy he pleased," Romney said. "But he did nothing to advance a permanent fix for our broken immigration system. Instead, he failed to act until facing a tough re-election and trying to secure your vote."

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday.

What Romney didn't say is that a Republican filibuster, in late 2010, stopped Democratic efforts to pass a DREAM Act -- previously supported by some GOP senators -- granting a path to citizenship to young illegal immigrants pursuing a college degree or serving in the U.S. military. The measure received 55 Senate votes, short of the 60 needed to clear the filibuster.

Also left unsaid is that, due to congressional opposition, both George W. Bush and Barack Obama have been unable to achieve comprehensive immigration reform.

In his remarks today, Romney also argued that Obama is taking the Latino vote for granted. (In the May NBC/WSJ/Telemundo oversample of Latino voters, Obama led Romney among this demographic, 61%-27%.)

"Tomorrow, President Obama will speak here. Of course, that's the first time he's spoken here since his last campaign. He may admit that he hasn't kept every promise. And he'll probably say that, even though you aren't better off today than you were four years ago, things could be worse. He'll imply that you really don't have an alternative."

Romney added, "I believe he's taking your vote for granted."

Furthermore, the former Massachusetts governor added more details to his immigration plans, saying that he would work to reallocate green cards to ensure that spouses and children of legal permanent residents get to stay with their families, and that he would grant green cards to those who get advanced degrees in the U.S.

"We can find common ground here, and we must," Romney said. "We owe it to ourselves as Americans to ensure that our country remains a land of opportunity –- both for those who were born here and for those who share our values, respect our laws, and want to come to our shores.

This tone was a striking departure from the rhetoric that Romney has used in the Republican primaries -- in both 2007-2008 and 2011-2012.

Indeed, the issue was a clear way for the former Massachusetts governor to prove his conservative credentials. And it was a weapon he used -- often with success -- against John McCain, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich, all of whom had supported some liberal policies toward illegal immigrants.

For instance, before the New Hampshire primary in Jan. 2008, Romney's campaign blasted McCain on immigration. "McCain pushed to let every illegal immigrant stay here permanently -- even voted to allow illegals to collect Social Security," went one Romney TV ad. "And Mitt Romney?... He opposes amnesty for illegals."

Identity politics, you gotta love it. Obama just hopes if he passes out enough promises (later to be ignored and unfulfilled, just like his last set of promises), he'll get re-elected. People in these "groups" aren't that stupid though, at least not like the liberals posting around here who appear to be complete Dumb Fuxs. Obama is known for backing out of any deals he claims he can make. He "Evolves." Anyone dumb enough to believe what Barry says is a total fool.

Hey guys, I'm tired of typing, so I'll just post my comment from the previous article..

Eveything that comes out of NitMitt's mouth is a pure contradiction of his previous contradiction. How's he going to last during a debate. Any question asked, no matter how he answers will be a contradiction of previous statements. As far as the economy, he's has nothing to say other than using a broad brush to descibe it. I mean, the Repubes could run "Joe the Plummer" and get the same results.

All O needs to do is re-run old Newt and Santorum ads and wait for the debates.

Sorry Pubes, but you got a real loser here. I think your strategy of ABO has come back to bite in the ass!!!

Does Romney really believe that his audience would believe anything he says. Every time he says something in contradicts the last position. Saying the President Obama is taking the Latino for granted is simply wrong.

Romney seems to be totally out of touch with reality when it comes to common people.

GOP is the party of NO-COMPROMISE and obstruction, as per their pledge in January 2009. Don't kid yourself. This is the GOP/Koch party, how it is now.

R congressionals only act on behalf of the very top income earners and corporations.

FACTS ON THE DREAM ACT: Democrats voted Yes in the House to the DREAM Act. GOP House voted No. The Senate voted yes with 55 votes. Republicans blocked it.

...............................................

McConnell and co. demand 60 votes for every measure since 2009. Even if it's something GOP was previously for, they will voted 100% against if the President want to move it forward.

MORE LIES FROM OBAMA....

Is this cover up artist even capable of telling the truth?

"Running for governor, Mitt Romney campaigned as a job creator. But as a corporate raider, he shipped jobs to China and Mexico. As governor, he did the same thing: Outsourcing state jobs to India."

— Voiceover of new Barack Obama campaign ad

The Obama campaign apparently loves to ding former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with the charge of "outsourcing." On several occasions, we have faulted the campaign for its claims, apparently to little avail.
Now, all of the claims have been combined in one 30-second ad, with the added incendiary charge that Romney was a "corporate raider." Let's look anew at this material.

The Facts
The phrase "corporate raider" has a particular meaning in the world of finance. Here's the definition on Investopedia:
"An investor who buys a large number of shares in a corporation whose assets appear to be undervalued. The large share purchase would give the corporate raider significant voting rights, which could then be used to push changes in the company's leadership  and management. This would increase share value and thus generate a massive return for the raider."
In other words, this is generally an adversarial stance, in which an investor sees an undervalued asset and forces management to spin off assets, take the company private or break it up.
In a previous life, The Fact Checker covered renowned corporate raiders such as Carl Icahn and his ilk. We also have closely studied Bain Capital and can find no examples that come close to this situation; its deals were done in close association with management. Indeed, Bain generally held onto its investments for four or five years, in contrast to the quick bust-em-ups of real corporate raiders. So calling Romney a "corporate raider" is a real stretch.

But this President is consistent and honest. He cares about America, not just the top one-tenth of 1% of America as do Romney/Ryan/GOP/Koch/Norquist/A.L.E.C.

What MSNBC is failing to point out is there were in fact 58 Democrats or liberal independents. If 58% of the senate is not a huge majority. Count the few liberal Republicans and they should easily have had the 60 votes necessary. However, five Democrates voted no, 1 did not vote, and 3 Republicans voted yes. If the Dems had their party voting in lock step like they do now, it would have passed the closure vote and passed. Harry Reid should never have allowed this to come to a vote without knowing that it was going to fail. They even failed to get the liberal Maine Republicans Collins & Snowe to vote for this.

Baby steps for Romney. I guess you cant ask for much. But i gotta give it to him, there are a lot of families out there where one out of the two parents may be resident and the other illegal and families are split when one gets deported. which means if that is the bread winner that goes, the rest of us pay for it... so, baby steps. But its been 6 days and still no response to Obama's decison from last week. Usually Romney only needs a few minutes to give a response and it really doesnt matter if the subject matter's details are not all in when he reacts to decisions by the president. And this is the "Leader" the republicans want? a guy who has to check with his handlers (that we cannot know who is funding his campaign btw) to give him his talking points and new policies

In the end, the bill, which has always enjoyed bipartisan support, actually got enough Republican votes to secure its passage. But the Democratic caucus disintegrated when North Carolina’s Kay Hagan, Arkansas’ Mark Pryor, Montana’s Max Baucus and Jon Tester, and Nebraska’s Ben Nelson all voted against ending debate on the bill. Meanwhile, some key Republicans voted for the DREAM Act: Lisa Murkowski from Alaska, Richard Lugar from Indiana and outgoing Sen. Bob Bennett from Utah.

MORE LIES FROM OBAMA....

"Running for governor, Mitt Romney campaigned as a job creator. But as a corporate raider, he shipped jobs to China and Mexico. As governor, he did the same thing: Outsourcing state jobs to India."

and how is that a lie since Romney has almost the worst record in job growth out of 50 states: 47 is not a good number.

The Democratic-controlled Massachusetts legislature sent Romney a budget with an amendment that "would prohibit Massachusetts from contracting with companies that ‘outsource’ the state's work to other countries,"

Romney vetoed the bill

Indeed, Bain generally held onto its investments for four or five years, in contrast to the quick bust-em-ups of real corporate raiders.

So Bain held on to Ampad for 6 years - long enough to raise its debt from $100+ million to $400 million. Long enough to finish it off.

Romney says he can find some common ground.....meaning ...he will hire some more illegals for cleaning, mowing and taking care of the grounds around each home he own...!

Common ground indeed. That's is funny, he has no plan other than supporting the Ryan Plan and his statement "corprations are people." So what have we learned from Romney? He wants to destroy Social Security, Medicare, and replace the Post Office all with his rich friends corporations so they can make a bigger profit after they raise prices on everything and give worse service or none. Ryan plan gives Romney ove $700,000 tax break while you get a 20% hike and pay the taxes the rich would have been paying but won't. Cuts to food stamps and programs for the midlle class while paying for the 1% tax breaks. Why does he not have a plan for jobs? Because he is a job killer and his past work shows it. Repubs need to be investigated for trying to kill the economy so they can regain the whitehouse.

So lets start with the first day of President Obama's term when 14-15 repub politicians secretly met and pledged to vote against every bill to take the economy down all to make President Obama a one term president. Pledging to vote against all bills that would help the economy by saying they needed to act like the Taliban, to act like the insurgents do. This is the same plan that Bin Laden wrote to use as his master plan to take the country down and destroy our nation. Ryan, Cantor, DeMint, Gingrich to name a few. Gingrich is quoted as saying that meeting was sowing the seeds of the 2012 election. Ref: Richard Draper new book.

So repubs, you need to go after traitors who use the same plan Bin Laden did! There's common ground we all can believe in.

Going after Holder because the voter suppresion laws are illegal and he is not letting voters lose their voting rights......this is what the fake investigation is all about. Nothing more...nothing less.

The Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs (Cabot) to the Ambassador in Mexico (White)

CONFIDENTIAL

Dear Francis: I was sorry not to have talked to you at greater length regarding the Department of Justice’s proposal to use Army and National Guard forces to stop the wetback traffic across the California frontier. Since I have every reason to suppose that telephone conversations between the Embassy and officers of the Department are recorded and since I do not wish the Mexican Government to know all the gory details about this matter, it seemed to me that we had better handle it by an exchange of letters, the more so as the Department of Justice will not act for some days at least. I should perhaps add that practically everything I said to you was aimed at the recording machine rather than at you.

I do not I am sure, need to tell you that the Department of Justice as well as this Department have been increasingly concerned at the enormous number of wetbacks who are slipping into the United States, nor do I need to point out to you how undesirable this traffic is. In California the situation has become particularly bad in that the wetbacks are resorting to violence and the people of Southern California are getting both alarmed and fed up. In other words, whether we like it or not something has got to be done about it. Interestingly enough, the same complaints do not come from Texas despite the fact that the wetback traffic there is also heavy. The Texas farmers seem to favor the traffic despite its inconveniences.

You are also familiar with the many representations which the Mexicans have made to us asking us to take effective measures to stop the traffic of wetbacks. It is true that the measure they have normally requested is that we crack down on the farmers employing the wetbacks. Practically speaking this is not possible for political reasons and, therefore, if we are going to do anything at all, it must be something else.

We recognize that the use of the military to stop the wetback traffic will almost certainly provoke incidents and that those incidents will react on our relations with Mexico. I am sorry that this is the case. Nevertheless any enforcement measures we take, or indeed any lack of enforcement measures we take, are bound to lead to incidents due to the tremendous pressure of the wetback movement. Under these circumstances and recognizing that we face a choice of evils, it seemed to me better to seize the bull by the horns, see how effective military measures could be on one section of the frontier, stimulate both sides to demand a mutually satisfactory bracero agreement and do what we can to convince the Mexican Government that our measures were at least in part due to their pressure. It was precisely to get the fairest possible opinion on the latter point that I talked to Brownell as reported in my memorandum of conversation of August 8.11. Not printed.

I would greatly appreciate a detailed expression of your views. Probably we could not stop the proposed measures even if we should make a last ditch fight of it, but naturally I should like to do what is right even if it is not likely to succeed. I shall therefore await your views with the keenest interest.22. The source text bears the following handwritten postscript: “It seems to me pertinent also that the Mexicans are reported to use troops to patrol their side of the border.”

With every good wish,

Very sincerely yours,

John M. Cabot

Byron Raum -- Agreed. Just like the crap about leaking foreign policy. The president is already strong on foreign policy, just like he and the Dems are already ahead with Hispanics -- He doesn't need to pander. And if Hispanics want to see who is taking them for granted, they can look at who voted for or against the Dream Act.

    frank-1216711

Why didn't he remind them that back in January of 2012 he promised to veto the Dream Act, if he were president.

    Exactly.

Desperate measures for desperate times -- Romney knows that video of him saying he would repeal the Dream Act will be in ads in swing states with large Latino populations. Too late Romney!

His only trick is that of the chop-shop, and that mentality makes for a lousy economy. Just look at the old Bush team he's surrounded himself with. Just what we need 4 more years of trickle down with a far right chaser. Makes my skin crawl.

I guess Obama's new and improved immigration policy is necessary in his opinion. After all, when Mexicans start streaming across the border because the Obama Justice Dept won't pursue them is only fair. After all, Obama armed the drug cartels. All those Mexicans caught in the Holder cross-fire need somewhere to run. But Obama didn't know anything about that. Sure he didn't. You probably buy that bullsh!t too, don't ya!

Isn't it interesting how NBC goes out of their way to make excuses for why Obama couldn't even bring an immigration reform bill up for a vote while he had full Democratic control of Congress - part of the time filibuster proof control?

Now ask yourself - could you even begin to imagine them doing that for Bush?

NBC isn't even pretending to be impartial anymore.

part of the time filibuster proof control?

I believe they had less than two months of that ability. Even so, the Democrats are not voting in lock step with each other.

When the senate did get 55 votes for the Dream Act, it was a futile attempt against the over used filibuster.

Both parties have effectively threw away four years of progress in favor of pissing each other off.

Throw in their tepid praise for Mittens and failure to equally denigrate his accomplishments as a fellow Harvard grad and you have confirmation of a hard-wired disdain and intolerance for smart people of a different hue or race. "How dare they get so uppity", they muse over Jack Daniels and mayonnaise sandwich squares? It should come as no surprise then that a GOP party dominated by such biased ignorati, simpletons and pledge-lovers are ill-equipped to appreciate the complexities and nuances of effective governance of a Rotary Club let alone the presidency! The problem is that most NON Hispanics think we all are the same. Some dislike the term Latino some dislike the term Hispanic. Neither term bothers me though. I am part and part Native American.

Romney is to stupid to understand that. Obama cant pander to the whole Latino Community with one act or one piece of legislation. Some Hispanics are very conservative and some are very liberal. And most are moderate.

Mitt thinks grouping us all into one group makes sense. Call any Cuban a Mexican and they will surely get pissed off about it. Just as if you called a Newly Americanized British person a Russian.

      Bill-2910238

Since when should the Democrats be held responsible for the failure of the Dream Act to pass???? It WOULD have passed had that incompetent bozo McConnell not filibustered the damn bill. Why couldn't the Republicans vote for it???? Some of the co-sponsors even rejected the bill. Having 55% of the Senate vote for the bill should be enough. Having 51% of the vote should be enough for ANY bill. But you damn obstructionists can't take it when the president gets a win. Crawl back to your dark caves until you have the balls to compromise and actually pass bills that will HELP the American people and are BIPARTISAN.

"But he did nothing to advance a permanent fix for our broken immigration system. Instead, he failed to act until facing a tough re-election and trying to secure your vote."

In 2008, Obama had promised Latinos Immigration reform and did nothing for them once he got their vote, now in a calculated political move he brings this issue up right before the election. He doesn't care about their issue, he is just using them as political pawns. Romney is absolutely accurate in the above comment.

Some Real Facts About Mitt Romney We Won't Hear From The Lame Stream Media
      About The 'Real' Mitt Romney!

After going to BOTH Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar, but never worked as an attorney.

As a venture-capitalist, Romney's first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. That company, called
'Staples', now has over 2,000 stores and employs over 90,000 people.

Romney or his company Bain Capital (using what became known as the "Bain Way") would go on to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group,Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.

Got your calculators handy? Let's recap...

Volunteer campaign worker for his fathers gubernatorial campaign for 1 year.

Unpaid intern in Governor's office for 8 years.

Mormon missionary in Paris for 2 years.

Unpaid Bishop & state President for his church for 10 years.

No salary as President of the Olympics for 3 years.

No salary as MA Governor for 4 years.

That's a grand total of 28 years of unpaid service to his country, his community and his church.

      Why?

Because that's the kind of man Mitt Romney is!

And, in 2011 Mitt Romney gave over $4 million to charity.
Almost 19% of his years income.

      Obama gave 1% !!
And, Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013% !!!

Romney needs to either get his facts straight or just quit lying. This guy is so out of touch, I was watching the Ed Show and they had a clip of Romney sitting around a table in a little dinner, he asked if he could have one of those chocolate treats that were on a plate, guess what the chocolate treat was A DONUT!! I am a registered "Independent" (with a capitol 'I').

Supposedly, if you can believe the political pundits, it is the "Independent voters" who Mr. Romney and Mr. Obama are battling to persuade to their favor; the voters who will tilt the balance in November.

For me, as an Independent voter, the most remarkable thing about Mr. Romney's campaign is that for the past 2-years-plus I have not heard a single utterance, not one phrase, not one sound bite from his lips ... which did not have a profoundly negative, cynical, condescending or derisive edge to it!

I'm not sure I can take four years of that type of rhetoric emanating from the Oval Office of a Romney White House, on top of the daily, purely negative flow of caustic vitriol from the US Congress.

Why would ANY American favor a candidate who has shown a complete inability to take even a single day away from a "Scorched-Earth" campaign of pure negativity in order to tell us what he actually believes in, what his vision is for America during his presidency and beyond and to persuade us that the content of his character is not merely cynicism, vitriol and condescension?

I, for one, would really like to know.

This is the funny thing with some people using Romney's record. When they talk about health care (and Romney implemented the plan from which Obama created the law) they claim "It may have worked in Mass but it was not for the nation, and when they talk about unemployment they say "It worked in Mass so it should work for the nation." Get your act together, people.

Can somebody explain to me if we fire all the government workers that we have in excess to reduce our deficit (and there are, I am not disputing that), where are we going to put them if we are not capable to create the opportunities for them to transition from government work to private work? Because those people that the goverment dismiss will end up collecting unemployment who will have to be subsidized by who? Yeah, the government... Please, can somebody give me an idea without political ranting and finger pointing? Is it too much to ask?

Hard to point out any deficiency's with Obamas record, here's Mitts. Let's see which is worse a preson who doesn't join an all volunteer army when no war exists or one who avoids being drafted during war time?

Though an early supporter of the Vietnam War, Romney avoided military service at the height of the fighting after high school by seeking and receiving four draft deferments, according to Selective Service records. They included college deferments and a 31-month stretch as a "minister of religion" in France, a classification for Mormon missionaries that the church at the time feared was being overused. The country was cutting troop levels by the time he became eligible for the draft, and his lottery number was not called.

President Barack Obama, Romney's opponent in this year's campaign, did not serve in the military either. The Democrat, 50, was a child during the Vietnam conflict and did not enlist when he was older.

        To Willing Sniper

. Romney was of age to fight for our Country, but sought deferments instead. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, and as a female of the Armed Services,

Why hasn't Obama served in the militray? ( because he is worthless!)

Ok then so both Candidates did not serve in the Military. That would make them each have an equal footing on the topic. Yet Romney at the height of A major USA war dodged the DRAFT!!

Obama did not dodge a draft at all. And has served almost Four years now as Commander and Chief of all branches during TWO wars and at the time Osama Bin Laden was killed. By our troops under his command. I suppose you forgot that the President of our Nation.

Is the top dog of our Military while in office. Higher than 4 star Generals.

But ok yeah lets vote in a DRAFT DODGER Named Mitt Romney.

Buckle up boys and girls, the obot First Read Czars are coming out of the woodwork. Ban baiters abound, with their juvenile name calling and idiotic talking points. You can't get through, unless you are a jackazz whisperer. Obama has failed, he does everything opposite of what any effective leader would do. Painfully obvious this was done to attract the Latino vote. Straight up. Rob Peter to pay Paul, and you'll have Paul's vote everytime. They probably don't even realize, they will be paying for this, gotta get more money in the till. His arrogant past is biting him in the butt, he puffs out his chest to chastise people, and then videos turn up of him doing the same thing, duh.

November is all the medication I need, Obama will be sent back to Chicago with his tail between his legs, he is a coward, and I can't WAIT for the debates to start, no teleprompters and an opponent not willing to fall for the bully tactics, and that will make Obama come unhinged. Obama's mentality comes from Chicago, and that place is a cesspool.

Point number 1. White trash is drawn to Obama , like flies are to crap. Point number 2. I lived in Orlando from 85 to 05 and now the town is run by Pureto Ricans , what more do they want, the latinos run miami , tampa, orlando , and most of California, New York, and New Jersey , I guess they want the rest of us to move and find another country, the Whites in this country dont stick together like they use to they have become a bunch of passive cowards.

(Actually made be feel bad for Gov. Perry) And who was forgetting about the Latino vote when he clearly stated during the GOP Primary Debates that he would veto the Dream Act?

We always have the option of moving to another state. I did that and came back to Cali. Actually missed the food. And the people. Very diverse we even have southern food love the Greens.

I cant imagine living in a place where there is just one type of people. No different cultures no melting pot. That would be like living in Communist North Korea. Just one type of food?

"jobs" he rescued in the nick of time from it's former Democrat successors death spiral!

And by the way, while Romney was Governor of Massachusetts, the unemployment rate dropped

Under Obama we have had unemployment over 40 months ABOVE 8%. HOW does this help any Latino? How?

                How?"

It wasn't the economy that forced Moody's to downgrade the banks, it was the long shot investments and high-rolling high stakes financial gambling they have been indulging in that has caused their unhappy predicament. Ask JP Morgan for details. This is exactly why we need stricter controls on these financial institutions in order to limit the damage they seem hell bent to inflict on the economy of this country. Latinos aren't as gullible as the average Republican, fortunately, and they are not likely to blame the President for something he doesn't control.

It seems that prior to giving a speech at a gathering of Latino officials on Friday -- whose support he is actively seeking, the attendees were told to hurry and finish their lunch because the Secret Service wanted to confiscate their forks before Obama made his appearance.

They had already banned knives from the utensil list. This, plus the fact that Obama would keep his distance from the audience members. He wants their support as long as they keep their distance. This stuff can't be made up, why doesn't the tabloid known as MSNBC print this?

Bob, would you kindly tell me when the US went from a system of divided government to a parliamentary system?

The Obama administration supported legislation to fix this issue. That legislation, despite the lack of presidential authority to force Congress to pass anything, managed to get a majority in both houses.

Republican insistence that immigration reform get 60 votes in the Senate to pass prevented it from passing. If we are assesing blame, it seems to fall on the 41 Republicans who refused to permit a vote on the merits.

You can really tell what a couple rough weeks it's been for the liberals and Obama groupies. All personal attacks and unfunny one-liners.

Keeping with the topic. Of course the Dems take the Latinos for granted. Just the same way they take the Black vote for granted. One of these days, Black folks are gonna notice that, after all these promises of handouts and gimmes, millions of them are still poor and that the Dems have been keeping them on the plantation with scare tactics.

As for the Latinos, they're Catholic and should be reminded OFTEN by Romney that Obama is in favor of the atrocity known as Partial Birth Abortion and is against people being successful in small businesses which many Latinos have...they generally being harder workers than some people who have been here for centuries who complain all day and night about racism while waiting for their handouts from Hussein and the other Dems.

I don't see anyone pointing out the MAIN falsehood in Romney's statement,...

That Obama had TWO years of HUGE majorities,...

seems that meme is easy enough to debunk,...Didn't get to 60 until July 2009 - 3 weeks of legislating - then summer recess and Kennedy died - so back to 59 until the end of September when Kirk was seated - then fall recesses - so in total it was about six legislative weeks.

Why do the reporters fail to point that out? I'm not sure - unless they really love a 'horse race' that is closer to read about than reality.

PS. I miss a simple majority,...cuz' man oh man we could have gotten some @!$%# done, eh?

Of course the Dems take the Latinos for granted. Just the same way they take the Black vote for granted. One of these days, Black folks are gonna notice

I live in the South. The reason why the GOP keeps on winning the elections is because the majority of blacks DO NOT VOTE. They are only remembered during election time, and they do not care anymore. They are tired of the same old from the politicians.

Having said that, the few ones that vote usually vote Democrat, but the numbers are not big enough to win, because the majority of people that belong to the GOP always go out and vote. Do not count on too many blacks turning to the GOP this time around either. People in this country just conveniently group people for their agendas. All blacks are grouped by the GOP as one group of food stamp seekers, the GOP keeps on telling them "lazy" etc.

The group "Latino" has too many people grouped on it to really know how this group is going to impact the election. Many are Cuban-Americans that have belong to the GOP for generations, but that is also changing. Many are from South America, and have nothing in common with other "Latinos"

Well, the immigrants who came here legally are probably feeling bad for the ones who were brought as children, through no fault of their own, and hope that these kids can become citizens of the greatest country in the world, just like them. It isn't like they are deadbeats. They have to go to college, or join the military, and have no criminal record. Isn't that good enough?

I happen to work with about a dozen legal immigrants in IT, and they aren't happy about it at all. With all the paperwork, money and time it took them to arrive where they are today, what Obama did is a slap in the face. While it is sad (which most with a heart agree on), it's called tough love. It's not our fault their parents brought them here, it's their parents fault, and the fault needs to be put there. What Obama did is completely wrong, because it's putting illegals over citizens in jobs, education, government help, etc.

With the number of unemployed citizens in our country, the problems students are having getting into some college courses and getting financial scholarships/grants/loans, etc if you support the Dream Act, then you are a traitor to our country. Obama sent illegal automatic weapons into Mexico resulting in the death of hundreds of Latinos; all for a twisted scheme to ban guns in the U.S.

Are you kidding me??? Who @!$%#ing cares about what legal immigrants think???? They are not the ones who decide what gets passed and what doesn't??? Should we add the legal immigrants to lists of special interest groups, the wealthy and seniors (sorry, but true) among them??? No. It is completely unreasonable and impossible to deport nearly 12 million illegal immigrants. Hitler couldn't deport the 9.6 million Jews out of Europe (sorry for the comparison, but it's the only effective one I got); what makes you think we can do that with 12 million???? The ONLY solution to our immigration woes is to allow at least some of the illegal immigrants who have been here for a while to become citizens. That is the ONLY solution, along with making our immigration system focus more on economics. And what right to do we have to deport people who were brought to the US as kids and have no other home but here??? They are essentially Americans. I don't usually quote the Bible, but doesn't it say "The son will not bear the punishment for the father's iniquity????" Kids shouldn't have to suffer for something that is out of their control. It is like arresting everyone who has red eyes or freckles.

You remind me a lot like those stingy nativists of old. You don't create jobs for some people by denying people an opportunity to come here. Americans don't like some of the jobs that immigrants do, like construction or working in the fields. And we NEED highly-skilled immigrants to compete with other nations. We need to let in MORE immigrants with college degrees and have them create businesses and jobs in the U.S. instead of in other countries. If you support denying people the right to come to the US and become citizens, then you are a traitor and anti-American. We are supposed to welcome immigrants with open arms; not kick them back home. Wanna have no immigrants??? Go to another country. We are a nation of immigrants. If you don't like it, get out.

By the way, passing the Dream Act would generate billions of dollars in economic growth and deficit reduction (not much, but a good start) due to more people paying taxes and having jobs.

I am in IT and there is no shortage of Americans trying to get jobs in IT, but many are unemployed because of "legal" immigrants taking their jobs. @Freshie and LWNJ,

I'm not sure where I 'whined' about legal immigrants in IT. I stated that I work with legal immigrants in IT and they aren't happy about Obama's decision. That was in direct response to another poster stating that legal immigrants are happy about Obama's decision.

                        @Freshie,

American workers don't like construction jobs??? I happen to have a few friends that are in construction that are continuously looking for work. We 100s if not 1000s of unemployed construction workers due to illegal immigrants that would LOVE to be back working. As far as letting MORE legal immigrants in... while I'm definitely not against legal immigration, we need to cut back on the number we let in due to the number of unemployed engineers already in the country. You seem to be all for letting anyone and everyone in no matter what. You're the one that is clueless. While our nation is built on immigration, and has been throughout our history, we also need to keep the citizens that are already IN the country employed before we go out looking for more people to let in. To me, that just basic common sense regardless of what party you belong to.

As far as passing the Dream Act, you really haven't thought about the consequences. You give these people citizenship, ok, I can live with that. Then they start bringing their family and extended family across the border. On average (nothing personal against them) people south of the border are not the most educated. So you flood the blue collar market with people that (on average) refuse to assimilate into our culture, learn the language, learn our laws, etc. So now the blue collar unemployment rate skyrockets higher than it is today. So they go on welfare (which they can legally do now since they are citizens). Suddenly our welfare costs skyrocket.

                        @Freshie,

First of all, I mentioned construction because many illegal immigrants work in construction. Secondly, in 2018, we will have a shortfall of engineers and scientists. That is why we need to increase immigration to allow gifted people and those who want to start profitable enterprises to come here. Allowing gifted immigrants to come here WOULD create jobs for Americans.

You need to get off your liberal cloud and come down to the real world. Bleeding hearts like you are a big reason for the problems in this country.

Technically, the citizens would pay taxes and increase demand (offsetting any future costs) for goods. In addition, can you name me 10 people you know who would be willing to work in a farm in 100-degree weather for minimum wage??? Few people can survive on that. And since when do illegal immigrants refuse to assimilate??? All they want to do is preserve their cultural integrity, like your immigrant ancestors tried to do. And illegal immigrants tend to obey the law, mainly because they know that if they are arrested chances are that they will be deported.

You, my friend, need to get off your cloud and deal with reality. Uncompromising purists like you are what's wrong with this country.

That's pretty moronic, even coming from Romney. If Obama had done anything of the kind, he'd never have pulled that cynical political stunt last week which, while it's undoubtedly gained him some Latino votes, has just as certainly cost him some.

Government is killing this country and all people can do is sit on here and debate over what someone said instead of trying to fix the scum bags in office. Its like someone trying to rob a house and throwing the dog some steaks to leave him alone, its a distraction people. i dont care who you put in office, nothing is going to change cause the people in this country havent seen whats going on and never will as long as we sit around caring about this crap that doesnt mean nothing

Well Willard, in the Republican primaries, not only did you throw Latinos under the bus, you backed the bus up to run over them again. Now you won't say whether or not you will overturn Obama's directive but having the author of the Arizona immigration law as your policy adviser on immigration speaks louder than whatever vague nonsense you wish to spew. You had a chance to show leadership Willard and again you failed. Maybe you should self deport yourself out of this election.

Why are YOU so interested in the welfare of illegals while your countrymen struggle in this economy? No true American would do this.

Oh, you must be an illegal yourself, be related to an illegal or you are profiting from an illegal.

No true American would attack people who try to come to this country and attack his fellow countrymen, or accuse him of being an illegal immigrant. Question to all , what has any country done for this country ie P. rico, Cuba , any south american country etc , except give us immigrants that want us to change our culture to accomadate them such as in Florida where I use to live , they had every other billboard in Spanish and announced things in the stores in English and Spanish. I would like one example what any other country has done for us , can anyone give me anything.

                          • The Greeks gave us democracy.
                          • The French helped us in the Revolution.
                          • The British gave us the Beatles (which soothed the nation after JFK got killed).
                          • Mexico gave us great leaders like Caesar Chavez.
                          • Canada makes the case for single-payer healthcare.
                          • Spain helped us in the Revolution.
                          • The Netherlands helped fund the Revolution.
                          • Germany helped us hold off the Russians during the Cold War.
                          • Spain gave us Puerto Rico, the Philippines, and Cuba (after the Spanish-American War).
                          • Russia tried to mediate a peace treaty between us and the Brits during the War of 1812.
                          • Japan gave us land to house some of our troops (after WWII).
                          • Japan opened trade relations after Matthew Perry came over.
                          • Britain joined us in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is as much as I can think of, but there is a helluva lot more.

Well we are getting more definition now. but not enough to satisfy the left.

Furthermore, the former Massachusetts governor added more details to his immigration plans, saying that he would work to reallocate green cards to ensure that spouses and children of legal permanent residents get to stay with their families, and that he would grant green cards to those who get advanced degrees in the U.S.

So you are saying that Romney is basically stealing material form the Dept. of Homeland Security???

a family member of a green card holder, this includes spouses and unmarried children of the sponsoring green card holder

a member of a special category, this can include battered spouse or child (VAWA), a K nonimmigrant, a person born to a foreign diplomat in the United States, a V nonimmigrant or a widow(er) of a U.S. Citizen

Green Card Through a Job Offer
You may be eligible to become a permanent resident based on an offer of permanent employment in the United States. Most categories require an employer to get a labor certification and then file a Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker, for you. This one corresponds with advanced degrees.

I DEMAND to see romney's marriage certificate! not the short form5 which is a copy and obvious fake. show us the real one with the names of the other 4 wifes on it. romney belongs to a wandering tribal polyigamous cult with branches in mexico here both mitt and his father were born mitt was smuggled accross the mexican border in a brinks truck provided by casino gambler sheldon addleson who hid him from authorities for years till he surfaced in michagan. now addelson reappears decades later to bank roll 2 losers named newt and mitt to the tune of 15 million so far. it will soon come to light that mitt is dyslexic and his real name is timm. what percent of the 1 9% that went to charity went to the cult morman church. he got a tax break for thatand the taxes he didn' pay had to be made up by people paying real taxes. mitt average earnings in 1 week than any of the jobs he "worked for free" payed in 1 year. why don't you list his numerous tax write=offs and the swiss and bahamas bank accounts he parks earnings in to avoid paying taxes.

obama extended the bush tax cuts which omney stated were necessary to create jobs. so where are the jobs? romney is like richard nixon with his secret plan to end the war. just elect me and i will tell you what the plan is. same with romney and his lack of policies on everything from the ecomey to immigation. justelect me and i will tell you what the secret plan is. the bext 2-4 years may well show a very weak grotwh in our economy because of the debt crisis in europe. obama recognizes this but romney will fix the economy and and create a massive amount of new jobs, just like he did when e was govenor. mass. vaulted from 49 th in new jobs creayed all the way up to 47 th. he created romneycare which is rated #2 in the country. second best state health program which is almost virtually the same as obama's health care program. he refuses to have his name mentioned in the same sentence with romneycare let alone take credit for it. because that is not what the fleabaggers want to hear afterexpending so much time and money while saying it;s too long to read and nobody really understands it

today he spoke to a meeting of latino 's and the bull sh-t meter went off the charts. we hear about obama's temporary stop gap initative and what that entails and we hear of yet another grandiose solution for the long term from romney. what is it you ask? well nobody knows, because as usual mitt avoids any specifics that could br construed as a policy let alone a promise. he tells the fleabaggers one thing to satisfy their delusional minds and tell different groups what he thinks they want to hear , so any specifics can cause problems when you keep changing your position on the same subject. he now needs to try to meander to the center to fish in what few moderates remain in the republican party. the cracies will remain all in no matter what, as they are now stuck with mitt. only we still have to shovel out from this ceaseless sh-t storm. imagne if we had george bush for a 3rd term, well, mitt is the next closest thing.

And by the way, while Romney was Governor of Massachusetts, the unemployment rate dropped from 5.7% to 4.9%.

Under Obama we have had over 40 months above 8%. HOW does this help any Latino? How?

Yep, Obama was very foolish during his first 2 years in office. He made the mistake of thinking he could compromise with the current Republican representatives. Thank God those days are over. Unfortunately those efforts gave the Republicans a chance to take majority in Congress, thereby stopping all of Obama's efforts until he figured out how to out-maneuver them last summer when the Republicans threatened to throw our nation into default.

According to the right every company he invested in was on the edge of bankruptcy that he personally saved. The truth is Bain invested in lot's of companies some succeeded some didn't but in most cases Baim made money regardless and Romney didn't run any of the companies that succeeded and can't claim credit any more than i can claim credit for Exxon's success because i bought some shares.

In his 2010 book The Buyout of America: How Private Equity Is Destroying Jobs and Killing the American Economy, Josh Kosman described Bain Capital as "notorious for its failure to plow profits back into its businesses," being the first large private-equity firm to derive a large fraction of its revenues from corporate dividends and other distributions. The revenue potential of this strategy, which may "starve" a company of capital,[97] was increased by a 1970s court ruling that allowed companies to consider the entire fair-market value of the company, instead of only their "hard assets", in determining how much money was available to pay dividends.[98] In at least some instances, companies acquired by Bain borrowed money in order to increase their dividend payments, ultimately leading to the collapse of what had been financially stable businesses.[49]

Obama had 2 full years to enact policy to deal with illegals and couldn't be bothered except to deport them in record numbers. But as soon as 'Oblama' starts trailing in the polls he violates our Constitution. You have to be retarded to think this new policy will be enforced by any state in America. Obama has done nothing but pander to voters that dont matter in this election. In the end what he did will end up in the Supreme Court and ultimately reversed. Make no mistake about that. Minorities don't elects Presidents ... and once we have a President and Congress that will do away with useless entitlements, we won't have to worry about that anymore anyway.

Well I see 'lil Ben is doing his weekly duty, tossing Scott Rasmussen's salad.

Hey 'lil Ben,you better send an e-mail bomb to the voters in Florida to pack it in...

Quinnipiac poll for Florida released 6/21: Obama 46% Romney 42%

                                Kiss off Wisconsin too...

Marquette Law School poll released 6/21 for Wisconsin: Obama 49% Romney 42%

Or maybe yesterday's Bloomberg News national poll that had Obama with a 13% lead? Like that one better,'lil Ben?

Or here, let's go with the guy who is flat out the best in the biz at this,Nate Silver and 538.com (for one thing he crunches numbers using data from ALL polling sources...).

His latest handicapping of the odds for November...

Obama 62.7% likely to win Romney 37.3% likely to win

The difference between myself and a person like you 'lil Ben is that I have enough sense to put almost ZERO credence in political polls that are taken this far out from the election. Why? Well for one we haven't seen any debates yet. Also the carpet bombing of the airwaves hasn't begun in earnest yet (can't wait for that...NOT!!!!). And lastly at this point in a Presidential campaign the vast majority of the nation's voters aren't really dialed in and paying attention yet. That's more a pursuit of political junkies (also known as idiots...:)) like ourselves.

So you continue to stick with the belief that one of the provably most biased polling sites out there (Rasmussen...) saying that it will be Romney on June 21st is going to mean jack squat in November.

(For the record I personally LOL'ed when I saw the Bloomberg poll...whatever numnutz came up with that probably has the Rams and the Browns in next years Super Bowl.)

Then even the simplest simpleton (that would be you,pinhead...) can visit said site and see that every poll I listed is 100% ACCURATE.

Then you can get back to what you're better suited for, somewhere some windows need to be licked clean I'm sure.

The President still leads in the majority of the polls, and it should be pointed out that Rasmussen is just a conservative polling organization whose polling results are generally ignored by the mainstream press. Factor out Rasmussen and the President's lead increases substantially.

I guess you believed Obama when he said "the private sector is doing just fine". You might want to look at the latest unemployment numbers, they have been going up over the last several weeks. You might also look at the foreclosure rate going up, the debt increasing by $6 billion a day and the enormous deficits we have endured under the President. Add to that the unemployment rate of 14% among minorites and 37% among students looking for summer jobs and no, the economy isn't improving at all.

Found a USA Today article about gas prices falling to under 3$

Remember how quick the Cons were to blame rising gas prices on the Obama administration recently? It was all his fault, his policies and lack of drilling approvals hastened it...blah, blah, blah?

If that were truly the case, and only idiots and Cons seem to think it is, then courtesy dictates we should be hearing kudos from them about FALLING gas prices, right?

Oh yeah, wait a minute...that would be strictly be against the "Code of the Conservatives" to give any credit for anything to this administration. That would prove to anyone with lingering doubts that their assumptions were and are incorrect.

But fortunately, smarter people than they are already know that.

Now, for any Con out there who'd like to take a stab at providing any kind of coherent answer, riddle me this:

Ever since Obama took office, Cons, like Sarah Palin, have continually whined about him not opening up more drilling options for these overly rich corporations i.e. Chevron, BP, etc. About how it would immediately lower consumer prices in the USA, drive down the cost of drilling, yada, yada, yada, etc, and everyone benefits from it.

But I have yet to hear that these corporations would stipulate to an iron-clad, binding guarantee that they would only sell the products of their labors strictly within the US in order to provide more supply.

Why? It's basic Econ 101...these companies will sell their oil on the world market, to whoever offers them the most profit...capitalism at it's finest. Nothing wrong with that, but to say or imply that simply drilling for more oil within the US boundaries would automatically lead to lower domestic prices and less riliance on foreign oil, as the aforementioned former candidate for VP has done time and time again, is pretty shallow.

My recollection is that Mr. Obama appointed a Latina woman to the Supreme Court.

I hardly think this would represent taking Latinos for granted.

And what do you think Romneys doing when he speaks to hispanic groups blasting Obama for not passing a much wanted bill for hispanics but failing to mention it was his party that blocked it and he opposed it in the past? His speach was clearly designed to make this group believe he supported the dream act and that Obama was the reason it wasn't law.

It is obvious that President Obama is playing politics with immigration issues, just like gay marriage issues, and now, he invokes executive privilege with the "fast and furious" scandal. Of course, the other super scandal on the board now is that someone in the White House has been leaking sensitive information on National Security issues.

So, along with all his broken promises like transparency, lowing the debt , and decreasing unemployment , I guess he needs another four years to totally do away with the constitution. Wow!!! What will it take for people to wake up to the fact that the man isn't running for President, he's running for "king". The Blame King will be his new title .....

Romney is a pandering fool. He changes his stance for every audience. He wants Mario Rubio for VP, because he doesn't know there is a difference between Mexicans and Cubans. First it was cheesy grits in the south, now he holding a burrito and talking about eating tacos.

"Today, Mitt Romney told the largest national gathering of Hispanic elected officials, 'When I make a promise to you- I will keep it.' But in front of an audience of Republican primary voters, he called the DREAM Act a 'handout' and promised to veto it.

Now, after seven days of refusing to say whether or not he'd repeal the Obama administration's immigration action that prevents young people who were brought here through no fault of their own as children from being deported, we should take him at his word that he will veto the DREAM Act as president," said Gabriela Domenzian, the campaign's director of Hispanic press."

Yep clearly Obama is the only president in history to claim executive privilege to stop the opposing party from a fishing expedition hoping to find something to embarrass him. The Senate was provided 7600+ documents to determine the ATF screwed up which we all knew. Now they're just fishing and he stopped it as any president would.

In unrelated news, the Republican minority of 2009-2010 sets records for most filibusters ever.

The right, and the media - mainstream and otherwise, always fail to correct the "he had a Democrat majority in the House and Senate for two years..." bs talking point whenever a Republican comes out with that LIE. The truth is that Democrats only had 58 democrat votes at the most. The other 2 votes were Indpendents, who lean democrat when the issue suits them. Couple that with the presence of the "Blue Dogs" in the democrat controlled Senate and you are no where near the 60 votes needed to simply push through the legislation sent forward by the Democrats in the House from 2008-2010. That friends and foes are the facts of Washington DC politics in today's era.

As Job1 stated correctly, any legislation that comes before the Senate needs 60 votes in order to get over the cloture motion (like FrugalDemocrat said, they aren't even real filibusters anymore just procedural votes on whether the bill will even come up for discussion).

Combine the media's failure to correct the facts, as presented on both the Democrat and Republican sides I might add, with the apparent ignorance of the American electorate as to the powers, duties and responsibilities of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government and you have a recipe to elect ideologues for Representatives and Senators, an etch-a-sketch as President, and get judges to the Supreme Court who openly attend politically sponsored conferences and who's spouses run lobbying firms which are opposed to legislation which comes before them.

It takes 60 votes to overcome a filibuster in the US Senate, which is now the default to get pretty much anything done…the Democrats didn’t reach that 60-seat threshold in the Senate until Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) was sworn in on July 7, 2009. They lost that majority upon the swearing-in of Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) on Feb. 4, 2010, just under seven months later. While state politician Christie can possibly be forgiven such an error, someone with Joe Scarborough’s reach and influence ought to have better than a 71% margin of error

As Mother Jones‘ Kevin Drum points out, though, the actual amount of time the Democrats held a filibuster-proof majority, when you factor in the late Sen. Ted Kennedy‘s illness and the winter recess, amounts to 14 weeks.

In reality even the magic 60 isn't filibuster proof. There's always a few Republicans that lean to the left and Democrats to the right and some independants. Some vote what they believe rather than the party line.

President Obama isn't taking the Latino vote for granted, but his policies and the fact
that he truly is on the side of the middle class, make it more likely that Hispanics
will vote to reelect the president. By reelecting the president his policies
and his fair tax and spend policies will enable the middle class to grow and
prosper which in time will lower the deficit.

The GOP have been pushing austerity by blocking the president's job bills...
austerity isn't working and it won't, it will just make matters worse, more
people will lose their jobs and we'll fall back into recession.

We need to enact President Obama's job initiative which will put over a million
people back to work immediately and it's paid for by taxing the wealthy 0.01%.
With over a million people back to work within a few weeks our economy would be
back on track, these new workers would spend enabling small business to hire
even more workers and so on... a net net win for everyone including the
                                            wealthiest among us.

Romney on the other hand will ship more jobs overseas and fire more public employees, in
other words we'll have austerity on steroids....

Maybe Romney's position isn't flip-flopping. Maybe he's, to take a word from Obama, "evolving".

Romoney wants to point out that the President should have dealt with illegal immigration right away, now why is that because this country wasn't in a economic meltdown, we weren't headed towards a depression?Millions of people weren't losing insurance coverage because of pr-existing conditions, and millions had no coverage at all!

The GOP had 8 years of Bush and what did they do to help with illegal immigration? Oh that's right it didn't become a "CRISIS" till President Obama was sworn in!

Just another empty criticism of the President, what's your plan Romoney? Do you have any real plans on both Healthcare and immigration???? We are waiting!

                                            Obama/Biden 2012 forward not back!

Since you are all for making sure ROMNEY is spelled correctly, make sure you chastise those posters who misspell OBAMA, and also those who fail to put the title PRESIDENT in front of his last name.

Mitt "laws are for suckers and little people" Romney told America that he predicts he will win Wisconsin based on Scott Walker's victory. Then the Wisc. poll numbers came out and he saw he was behind. Now he's taking another approach. Talk about taking anything for granted and to actually accuse President Obama of doing it WHILE he is doing it is atypical republican characteristic. Mitt has said that his father was born in Mexico. Show us the birth certificate.

They got a little too excited about Wisconsin. I'm a liberal and i would've voted against the recall. Pay and benefits for public sectors should be comparable to the private sector. There's been a few too many politicians from both parties who've been a little too generous with our money at the state level. Regardless of how i would've voted in Wisconsin It sure as hell doesn't mean i'd vote for Romney.

Funny, because I can read, and it says Romney is ahead. Why do Democrats get everything backward, is it genetic?

And you post a link to Rasmussen?? Has Rasmussen ever had it right? In 2008 they had McCain winning in Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado. He LOST every single one of those states. Rasmussen is less accurate than a dart board.
