HENDERSON, Nev. --- Defending the White House's controversial decision to stop deportations of some children of illegal immigrants, first lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday called the measure "an important step" but not "a permanent solution" and vowed that her husband will keep fighting `n for full Congressional embrace of the DREAM Act.
"Just last week this administration announced new measures to lift the shadow of deportation from many of these young people who came here as children and were raised as Americans," she told a rally of about 1,000 supporters in the Las Vegas area, where more than a quarter of the population is of Hispanic origin. "But while this is an important step, it is not a permanent solution. It is not. So Barack is going to keep fighting to get Congress to give these young people a real pathway to citizenship."
"That's the vision that this president has," she added.
On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will no longer deport young illegal immigrants who came to the United States before the age of 16, have no criminal records, and who have pursued an education. Those who meet the requirements can defer deportation proceedings for two years - subject to renewal - and can apply for work permits.
The mention of the new policy was somewhat out of the ordinary for Mrs. Obama, who rarely strays from her stump speech to comment on current events. Her reference to the DHS policy and to the similarly-structured legislative DREAM Act won cheers from the crowd in Henderson, Nev.

In her remarks, the first lady also offered a fierce defense of the White House's economic policies, particularly the foreclosure reforms the president announced in Nevada last year.
She encouraged supporters to remind friends and neighbors of those reforms, saying that as a result "families across the state have been able to refinance their mortgages and keep their homes and keep more money in their pockets each month."
With a nod to her oft-mentioned father, whom she often says took great pride in paying his bills on time, Obama urged backers to evangelize within their communities about the economic gains of the past years. "While we still have a long way to go, we still have more work to do to rebuild our economy, let them know that today millions of people are collecting a paycheck again," she said. "Millions of people like my dad are able to pay their bills again thanks to your president.
Before arriving at the sweltering conference center, the first lady stopped at Sunrise Coffee in Las Vegas. Purchasing two small iced teas - with the sweetener "on the side" - Mrs. Obama joked with the cashier about the crush of press that hung on her every move.
"I don't know what they'll do," she said with a smile when the young cashier eyed the journalists and worried aloud that they would "mob" both of them. "I can't speak for them."
Mrs. Obama continues her western campaign swing tomorrow with two events in Colorado.

See these two plus Ted Turner, Jon Corziine, and of course Pat Stryker - heavily invested in Abound Solar which received several hundred milloin of taxpayer money as well as Ggeorge Kaiser who was heavily invested in Solyndra and was bailed out illegally by Obama, and of course the billionaire media moguls who stump for Democrats. They are not patriots but are getting their kcikbacks.
Who is attending those Obama fundraisers that charge between $1200 and $40,000 (Clooney) to attend - ordinary folk? There have been over 160 of these since April and Obama has atended every one of them. It is more than the past five presidents combined! Meanwhile Washington stagnates as it has no leader! Add the 100 rounds of golf - also a presidential record!

Anything broadcast by the mainstream media is better than any situation comedy ever made. As long as they keep us laughing, their jobs are secure.
Although CSPAN's Washington Journal is laugh out loud funny, and has my vote for best comedy ever.
Of course, should Americans ever decide to use their heads for something other than a hat rack, hell won't be a half mile away.
The first lady needs to work on her timing and delivery if she ever expects to be successful at stand up comedy. It's going to require more than having a clown for a husband for a promoter to book her on tour.
WHO CARES what the First Lady thinks? It's none of her business, this is not the job description of a First Spouse.
Big news is that MSNBC will now have to quit ignoing the Fast and Furious scandal. King Obama has just used executive privilege to stop Congress from getting the documents they have been seeking for 18 months. Such privilege has always been for communications betweenn the president and his staff but now he has extended it to protect his Attorney General from having to show documents that might prove he was involved in the gun walking and murders. So far the main steam media has virtually ignored this scandal and one only heard about it on Fox News, but now they will have to report something on it.
Once again the king shows what he meant when he promised an open and transparent administration. What a paychotic liar this country has as its president!~
Sadly, the republicans need two thirds majority vote to boot him out. Maybe they'll get more support in November.
A dream for Obama and ILLEGAL ALIENS, but a NIGHTMARE for the American citizens both natural born and legal immigrants. This is a slap in the face for those that went through the proper process to change nationalities and for citizens that have to support the illegals and liberals. Another ploy to get votes since Barry is losing footage. An illegal alien himself! Figures, a true communist and Anti American President, has nothing after 3.5 years to run with for a platform! So he needs the votes to finish off America.

Second, personally I dont' have a problem with the idea of the DREAM Act. I agree that children brought over by illegals didn't have a say in the matter and until they are of age there isn't much they can do do legalize themselves, however, I want to see some revisions to the Act:
1. Issue perm residency with restrictions in that they go to the back of the line for citizenship..no cutting.
2. Once they are legalized, under NO circumstances can they sponsor illegal family members. If they want to sponser a family member who is not in the US to legally come into the country than no problem but they can't turn around and sponsor their illegal parents.
Pres Obama is correct in that a simple work VISA doesn't mean a path to citizenship; work VISAs expire. When they do, the person holding them is required to renew or if there is an underluying circumstance, they are required to leave the country or face deportation. I want to know if Pres Obama added anyhting in to this new Exec order about a work visa'd "youngster" who may ciomit a crime prior to expiration of the VISA...does deportation become an option once again?
As for service in the military requirement, that one is a crock. Illegals are barred from military service so based on Pres Obama's requirements, not one of those illegals can get a work VISA as they have already broken the law by serving. If in fact an illegal has served in the military they did so under illegal means, probably by presenting falsified records, which is a violation under the UCMJ referred to as a false enlistment. It does make me wonder if any illegal has ever gone through a service academy.
Like I care what she "lauds". Her opinions, much like herself and husband are self serving thus meaningless to me.

Ok, this is in no way newsworthy. Now, if she had criticized the ruling, yes, that would be newsworthy. But the fact that the 1st Lady supports the President? Hardly.

Would someone please explain to those currently in the White House, that the president doesn't have the authority to "rule" on whether or not the laws of the United States will be enforced?
It's nice to know that the President, and his wife recognize that there is work to be done, and risks to be managed.
It's not fun to deal with a sluggish economy but it beats the what for out of dealing with one that is nosediving into the toilet.

Been Done, Executive Orders directing IRS to end pursuit of "small" amounts of underpayment. I think it was Ronald Reagan who issued the order. But it could have been GHW Bush, even Clinton or GW. I know it happened.

I was listening to the radio this afternoon, and some blowhard Senator was saying, "Obama himself said he couldn't do this without congressional consent, just last year! We would have passed an immigration reform bill, but he chose to do this himself!"
1. The clip being played on FOX NEWS is EDITED to DELETE the part where Obama continues, "But, as executive, I can direct enforcement efforts...."
2. Presidents REAGAN, BUSH, CLINTON, and BUSH have done the same thing. No, executive enforcement is not "unconstitutional"
3. The GOP shot down the "Dream Act" two years ago. So much for bipartisanship.
You may disagree with Obama's decision. Fine. But stop just making up stuff.

this is a decision that I agree with. As long as their GPA is above average and they are earning scolarships as well as working to support themselves and obeying all laws---I say let them stay. If they want citizenship, by all means let them. Should they choose to return to their "motherland" so be it. The worst they can do is change their own country for the better thanks to our educating them. This in return gives us future alies in time of need. When will people learn to think beyond their closed and narrow minds?

Illegals were brought in to break unions, look at the construction trades and before that it was large agricultural interests so the taxpayer subsidized both. They tell us how cheap our food is but not how we pay for it in social programs for all of the illegals. (bring them home from Afghanastan and protect our borders) Prohibit the transfer of money back to Mexico. Are they here to be US citizens or just for the money, over $20billion every year is sent back to Mexico. We are not the ATM for Mexico. And if businesses don't like the additional cost of security in Mexico then bring your plants back to the US, some already are as the security and transportation cost make it feasible. We have a right to control our borders.
He can do it, called selective enforcement. This president has closed and prosecuted more medical growth operations in 3 years than Bush did in 8. A friend of mine in Montana, man had a stroke 30 some years ago when in his 20s was shoved on his face and then unable to get up. And you YWNM obviously you don't pay for anything and never have. The people we educate that we should be giving work visas to are the people who come from all over the world and pay their own way and get advanced degrees at least they would be people who contribute to society not just takers like it would appear you are YWNM. Tell you what son, come out of your dorm room someday and get some life experiences so you have some basis for your opinion. I was in the Peace Corps in the 80s, speak spanish fluently, children are lationos (educated, productive) and have lived and traveled since then in Latin America, extensively in Mexico and they laugh at us. They send their poorest, least educated, who work in the US and then send money back to Mexico then an intelligent and well educated person can't even get a tourist visa. Yeah making allies. People don't go back to their "motherland" they bring all of their frigging family instead. These kids that are not going to get deported and now can "legalize" their illegal parents. I voted for this president 4 years ago and you know what, I am tired of hope and change
