First lady lauds administration deportation action

Michelle Obama hugs campaign volunteer Teresa Crawford before speaking to a room full of volunteers, June 19, in Las Vegas.

HENDERSON, Nev. --- Defending the White House's controversial decision to stop deportations of some children of illegal immigrants, first lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday called the measure "an important step" but not "a permanent solution" and vowed that her husband will keep fighting `n for full Congressional embrace of the DREAM Act.

"Just last week this administration announced new measures to lift the shadow of deportation from many of these young people who came here as children and were raised as Americans," she told a rally of about 1,000 supporters in the Las Vegas area, where more than a quarter of the population is of Hispanic origin. "But while this is an important step, it is not a permanent solution. It is not. So Barack is going to keep fighting to get Congress to give these young people a real pathway to citizenship."

"That's the vision that this president has," she added.

On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will no longer deport young illegal immigrants who came to the United States before the age of 16, have no criminal records, and who have pursued an education. Those who meet the requirements can defer deportation proceedings for two years - subject to renewal - and can apply for work permits.

The mention of the new policy was somewhat out of the ordinary for Mrs. Obama, who rarely strays from her stump speech to comment on current events. Her reference to the DHS policy and to the similarly-structured legislative DREAM Act won cheers from the crowd in Henderson, Nev.

Obama immigration order poses dilemma for eligible illegal immigrants

In her remarks, the first lady also offered a fierce defense of the White House's economic policies, particularly the foreclosure reforms the president announced in Nevada last year.

She encouraged supporters to remind friends and neighbors of those reforms, saying that as a result "families across the state have been able to refinance their mortgages and keep their homes and keep more money in their pockets each month."

With a nod to her oft-mentioned father, whom she often says took great pride in paying his bills on time, Obama urged backers to evangelize within their communities about the economic gains of the past years. "While we still have a long way to go, we still have more work to do to rebuild our economy, let them know that today millions of people are collecting a paycheck again," she said. "Millions of people like my dad are able to pay their bills again thanks to your president.

Before arriving at the sweltering conference center, the first lady stopped at Sunrise Coffee in Las Vegas. Purchasing two small iced teas - with the sweetener "on the side" - Mrs. Obama joked with the cashier about the crush of press that hung on her every move.

"I don't know what they'll do," she said with a smile when the young cashier eyed the journalists and worried aloud that they would "mob" both of them. "I can't speak for them."

Mrs. Obama continues her western campaign swing tomorrow with two events in Colorado.

We have places even though we may hit the job problem but please keep them here. The drug lords on the other side are very brutal to their own citizens. It is for humanitarian effort and please keep them here since they have been in our school.

    Say,

How do the union workers, scratching for whatever construction work is left, feel about another 800,000 to 1,000,000 illegals to compete with??

    And the unions back Obama??

I guess it's O.K. because I haven't heard any union people whining about the way their wages are about to be lowered, or their jobs eliminated. Thank God I'm retired, and don't have to worry about any of that job crap any more. LOL

Yeah, sure. These children were raised as Americans. Maybe you need to go spend some time in south Florida, Miami preferrably, and see how little American that city really is. If you don't speak Spanish and aren't from Cuba or some other hispanic country then you will feel like you aren't even in your own country anymore. Hispanics are one of the only races that assume they can come to the US and never assimilate into the culture. They just bring their culture here and expect us to accept it. That's one of the reasons so many people are not willing to welcome them with open arms. I grew up in south Florida so I've seen this clash between US citizens actually born here and those immigrants who just come here.

Lee - I hired a Hispanic who was a good worker who spoke poor English once and offered to pay for night school classes so he could learn English. He refused my offer.

Enough written on where Hispanic immigrants heads are at - they are a selfish people with loyalty to no one except their familial cocoon.

You need to feel sorry for Michelle Obama, after all the woman has very low self-esteem and is obviously just plain ignorant. The proof for my above statement is "look at what she married".

"a permanent solution" solution will deporting all illegals at the expense of country of origin (same way illegally parked vehicles are towed at owners expense) and securing the border with national guard.

The Obama Administration is doing all they can to keep policies like this one in the news - and the lousy economy out of it.

Here is my advice to these inexperienced folks. Won't work.

The vast majority of the electorate does not care about this immigration policy, nor green jobs excepting the dismal failure that policy has been, nor awoman's right to free birth control excepting the Constitutional affront it is to tell the Catholic Church by edict what it can and cannot do with regard to birth control, etc.

As the uber-intellectual liberal voice, Gore Vidal, said in late 2009 "this inexperienced man should never have been elected president." I agree as a Republican.

I'm sure many of the folks who got backdoor amnesty through this sham will be waiting on Moochelle Antoinette hand and foot on her next multi- million dollar vacation we get to pay for.

Just what this princess needs. More "little people" to attend to her wants.

Is it just me, or is it hard to find articles of this unconstitutional immigration edict by Obama (I only heard about it yesterday after watching Monday's taping of O'Rielly & Hannity)?!? I swear - I had to scrounge for any news on it. Guess the lamestream press thinks if they don't report it or bury it deep in the news, nobody will notice except for those who would benefit. Another thing - Obama has promised veterans that they will not be without jobs (let alone LEGAL Americans) - how will he accomplish this? There aren't enough jobs to go around as it is - so who does he cut, vets? LEGAL Americans? illegal immigrants? He can't promise all people everything which is what he is doing to pander for votes. But I digress - it's the ECONOMY, stupid, but since he can't run on his record, he's putting in the path to distract the main issue. I just hope SOMEONE does what they need to do to stop this unconstitutional presidential edict! Obama thinks more and more that he's a King and subject to no one or anything except his whims and wishes. November can't come fast enough!!!!! I just hope that all the damage he has done can be reversed.....

PMS-NBC has lied and distorted so many reports - I doubt this is the full story... If MS-NBC would setup an innocent person (Zimmerman) and then purposely and falsely report a Romney event (for their own purposes) how can we trust any of this??? Even Andrea Mitchell continued the lies!!!

I think PMS-NBC is fabricating news....

Thank you Michele for maintaining an air of dignity and decency in the White House. Obviously, the fat cats want that home back and are inviting a white family. Yours has been a difficult road, and I appreciate all that the POTUS has done, attempted to do and will continue to do. The immigration issue is ages old and long overdue for a fair and just settlement. But as long as there are obstructionists in our Congress, little will be done. The POTUS uses his executive power to repair what could be a damaging situation. The Congress shall have the sole responsibility for drawing up an immigration legislation, debating it and passing it and then letting the Executive office see that the legislation is brought forth. If it takes a wall, build it, if it takes armed troops along the border then send them, if it takes black ops to deliver lethal blows to the Zeta cartels and the other low life then send them in - they can always use the practice and the loss of the cartel's citizens is no loss at all, then look at legalizing drugs in order to remove all profit.

@william smith, aka axlerod, indeed, thank you for the laugh! Although I'm a bit troubled that you would want to "practice" warfare on our neighbors to the South. Oh, that's right, when you silly liberals feel like it's in your best interests, then Constitution be damned, and load the predators!!! Silly liberals, paychecks are for people who WORK for them.

How shocking and revealing that the two free-loading panderers would agree with each other. The only other time they've agreed on anything was when they both took advantage of all the perks to get their degrees. She went on to never be proud of America, and he is doing his best to flush it down the crapper!

November can't come soon enough for me.

I read a quotation that best exemplifies the Obama phenomenon. It states: "One should never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups".

I hope independents and center-leaning democrats will wake up and realize that this idiot will do absolutely anything to get re-elected.

Of course she does. What was she suppose to say: NO this is one of the stupidest moves my ignorant husband has made since in office.

Doesn't matter that he is taking the current law into his own hands and twisting it to fit his own agenda.

Which of course is the votes he expects to get out of the election. Just like Nixon he thinks the laws of the land do not apply to his agenda.

He should be held legally accountable for his actions for breaking the law.

        Dear MSNBC:

We all understand that you are in the tank for Obama but could you make it just a little bit less obvious? THIS is news? THIS is worthy of a place of prominence on your website? Instead of an in-depth article on the fact that Eric Holder will soon be cited for contempt of congress because of his stonewalling over fast & furious? That he is most probably involved in a cover-up?

That someone in the top echelon of the Obama administration HAD to have leaked highly classified information to the NYT because only a few people in that echelon were privy to this information? All so Obama could look "tough" for his re-election campaign? That he wants crooked Eric Holder to control the investigation into the leaks instead of congress or an idependant investigation?

That the economy is in the dumps and is getting worse and Obama clearly has no idea what to do?

But, wait. I guess MSNBC isn't really a journalistic enterprise anymore and neither is their parent company NBC. So it's OK.

Maybe next week we'll hear what Michelle's vacation plans are for this summer.

I can understand having Matthews et al in their line up of talk shows. After all, it's a far left network and so I would expect far left commentators. What I can't understand is that their main news arm, NBC, and their "news" website MSNBC just won't even report the whole Fast & Furious fiasco, or the classified information leak investigation, or ANYTHING that doesn't make Obama look good. They just ignore it like it doesn't exist and they are counting on Americans being too stupid to get their news source from more than one place.

Be warned America - MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, The NYT - they are NOT journalistic sources. They are the press arm of Obama's administration. If that's the only place you get your news, you have no idea what's really going on.

tex2c, if you're from Texas, it must be from one of the few liberal hot spots in our state. And using the typical liberal m.o., insult, degrade, and deflect. The only "vast majority" of Americans who are supporting this complete fool are sycophantic/pseudo guilty white democrats, and the "entitlement state", which apparently accounts for almost half of our population. I'm wondering when it became uncool to actually work, and earn a living? And when bho gets his @$$ handed to him in November, why don't you move to Chicago? I'm sure you would feel right at home there. LOL
