Holder wrote a letter to Issa on Monday proposing the two of them meet on Tuesday; his offer came in response to a letter Issa, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, had sent to the attorney general last Friday.

Issa and House Republicans are angry that Holder has so far refused to turn over most documents subpoenaed by the oversight panel in its investigation of "Operation Fast and Furious," a government gun-running operation in Mexico. Issa has scheduled a meeting of the committee on Wednesday to consider holding Holder in contempt, though it could be postponed if Republicans are satisfied by Holder's efforts to comply.

(To all Obama supporters here, I didn't want to put the story here, but go check out Mark's video thread and see my answer to Amy; you're not going to believe what the Washington Post wouldn't put on their front page today). Specifically, WHY they wouldn't put it there.
Where were the Republicans pounding on the table when Bush and Cheney were claiming "executive privilege" with regard to records of who met with Cheney in those 2001 meetings with the oil companies? -- i.e., meetings which were neither strictly "executive" nor "privileged" by any reasonable measure.
Perhaps Issa could start there and figure out where it all went wrong.

'Fast and Furious' went far beyond what Bush's operation did, and Holder only 'stopped' it after it failed miserably and a border agent was murdered using weapons provided by the Justice Department.
As for 'lack of respect' for the POTUS, AG, etc., I seem to remember far more venomous attacks against Bush and his AG by the likes of you for most of Bush's tenure.

The House has no right to this investigation or the documents. You need to go back and read the Supreme Court decisions during the Watergate investigation in Congress. Holder knows he is fighting a losing battle. Why would he request a meeting. Everyone on the left said the same thing during the Clinton administration but Janet Reno caved in and gave up all of the request documents.

To put it bluntly, Darryl Issa is a GOP jerk and he is on a witch hunt. He cannot stand the idea that democrats have replaced their crowd in top positions. Issa claims Holder has not given them the documents he thinks he needs, when in reality, it is simply that the documents provided do not give Issa what he hoped to find because there is nothing for him to find. Fast 7 Furious began under Bush, why isn't Issa demanding testimony from those in charge when it began. Issa and other republicans have stated they found nothing but that they will likely bring it up during the election campaign. How convenient.
Last week and over the weekend I saw clips of Senators practically kissing Jamie Dimon as he testified "mia culpa" and promising never to be so reckless again--ignoring this is the 2nd time in 4 years for reckless behavior. They treated Dimon like royalty. Yet they treat Eric Holder and other Obama Administration officials with contempt and complete disrespect. Regardless of which side does this, I find it disgusting. They can be tough with questions but what I heard Cornyn and others say to Eric Holder was shameful and equally shameful was their kiss-up to Jamie Dimon because Dimon and his crowd line their pockets with campaign cash--in return for regulatory and legislative favors.

So, the "Fast And Furious" fiasco started under the Bush admin? This was done to further restrict gun ownership by law abiding citizens. It went dreadfully wrong, with a Border Patrol agent being killed. And yet, you see nothing wrong with this? Hell, if it was the Repubs that were involved in this, the lefties would be out protesting! What gives?
The fact remains that Holder has stalled Congress on this issue, named internal investigators to get to the bottom of the situation, but called for an independent investigation of the Bush administration during the Valerie leak a some years ago. Holder is simply stonewalling. These are two separate issues...Fast and Furious and the intel leaks, but Holder's name is tied to both in a less than forthcoming manner.
Fact remains - you don't know jack. It's all just speculation and nobody except the committee and Holder knows what is going on.
i know jack cheese, and i know congress asked for these documents last fall. That it has taken this long and the threat of a contempt charge before holder moved would indicate some stalling.
Only in a Republican's fantasy dream are those two issue connected.
This is a classic example of oppositional party smear tactics; make a claim, start an investigation, and keep it in the media up through the election. Both democrats and republicans have been doing it for years.
As to the issue (the request for documents), it is my understanding that some of the documents which are being requested by the Issa committee are documents that cannot be released because of their connection to ongoing legal investigations. Now, if that is the case and chairman Issa knows it to be the case, then it only further proves my opening statement.

The imigration move sounds great to all that wanted it, but read the fine print. Students must Regester. By doing this their familes will now be on record (and be able to be deported). So the question becomes, will students turn in their famlies to stay for 2 years, at which time they must reapply. (again updating the Feds information on their illegal families)?
I'm an Independent voter. I've always been moderate on most issues. Some things, however, make me see red. It doesn't matter which party does it. But I have rarely seen Democrats behave like these GOP creeps. I find it amazing how selective their memories are. They forgot Iran Contra. The forgot the terrorist attack on the Beirut barracks housing our marines and navy personnel killing 241 of them and injuring 60 when they attacked Clinton over a military plan gone wrong. They smear and slander every Democrat president as far back as F.D.R. over the past 12 years! Telling lies seems to be their one true calling and plotting, planning and carefully orchestrating spreading of those lies.
They've become like a contagious disease. They are not the patriots they pretend to be. The few remaining old school Republicans have been bound and gagged and we hear nothing from them. I miss the Republicans I could respect before they became harlots. I don't agree with all of the Democrat ideology but I see them doing their best under very difficult situation being made much, much worse by the GOP.

I just left another blog on the topic; specifically regarding the disrespect shown the President during his Rose Garden remarks last Friday. In that blog, a blogger claimed the same thing and suggested to readers that the proof could be found by googling "George Bush and hecklers". I did, and found several articles on the subject, however only one article actually dealt with American's heckling GW Bush while he was president, and that incident took place at a campaign stop during his re-election. Can't see how that incident and the string of dis-respectful incidents perpetrated by the GOP since 2009 are anywhere near equal.

The Problem is he didn't even try to do most of them. The Ideas of more transpariency ended with the Obama care, and all the other leaks that have since been released from his officials. He appoints Czars instead of going through the Senate, He doesn't inforce laws equally, (immigration, and Border), He sues states that through fustration try to potect their citizens by doing what the Federal Government should be doing. If he spent as much time running the office of President as much as he is campainning, it might be different. Munro was wrong to interrupt the president, but it does show the fustration many in this country hold for a man that fails to do what he took an oath to do.

Go read some Supreme Court legal history. Attorney General John Mitchell tried the "Ongoing Legal Investigation" argument
during the Watergate Investigation. The Supreme Court didn't buy that a Congressional Investigation would interfere with any legal investigation. The old "we're investigating ourselves" argument doesn't carry much weight.

So Holder's people have flooded the House Committee with documents they didn't request in an attempt to stonewall the investigation. Along with this, Holder's office has had to withdraw two letters to the House committee which the DOJ said were found to have factual errors. To help you people on the left, they contained lies which could prompt perjury charges if left on the record.
