Romney predicts he'll retake Wisconsin for Republicans

JANESVILLE, WI -- Mitt Romney made a bold prediction in Wisconsin to open the fourth day of his swing state bus tour: he would steal the Badger State from the Democratic column this November.

"I think President Obama had just put this in his column, he just assumed at the very beginning Wisconsin was going to be his," Romney told a crowd of more than 700 supporters gathered on a factory floor here. "But you know what, we’re going to win Wisconsin. We’re going to get the White House."

Romney made only one stop here today on his five-day, six-state bus tour, and it might be for the best -- his campaign bus might not have seats for all the surrogates who came out to support him this morning.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gestures during a campaign stop at Monterey Mills June 18 in Janesville, Wis.

There was Sen. Ron Johnson, who toppled Democrat Russ Feingold in 2010, and Reince Priebus, the Kenosha-born former Wisconsin GOP chairman who now leads the Republican National Committee.

"I got to tell you we have a little stimulus plan of our own and the stimulus plan is renowned by economists, like Paul Ryan," Priebus said. "Here is the stimulus plan: elect Mitt Romney, fire Barack Obama, and save America, right?"

But the loudest cheers weren't for Rep. Paul Ryan, the hometown favorite in Janesville and possible vice presidential contender; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, the recent victor in a recall election who introduced Romney, who elicited the loudest cheers from the crowd.

“It is my honor to still be the 45th governor of Wisconsin and it is my honor to be on the stage with the man I hope is the 45th president of these United States,” Walker said.

Walker's retention in the face of a labor-backed recall challenge, has fired up the Republican base here. The governor emerged as a hero to conservatives after eliminating most public workers' collective bargaining rights. Despite sharp disagreements over the implications of Walker's victory over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) earlier this month, the Romney campaign's senior advisers say they plan to compete aggressively in Wisconsin this fall, if only to keep President Obama on defense.

Romney was also on the attack this morning, accusing the president of replacing a slogan of "hope and change" with a hope to change the subject away from the economy, and of being unable to run on a tepid economic recovery the president insists needs more time to catch fire.

"These are challenging times for Americans, and because of [President Obama's] failed record his campaign is having a hard time deciding what to talk about, because they’d like to talk about the economy, they'd like to talk about his record but you know, the last time his campaign slogan was hope and change this time he’s going with: we hope to change the subject," Romney said.

Romney and Democrats also traded charges of evasiveness in the speech and subsequent spinning from the Obama campaign, with a spokesperson for the president's campaign declaring Romney's speech to be packed with "evasive and angry rhetoric," and Romney accusing the president of trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people as he fought for more time in office.

"He tries to tell people that his policies are actually working, that its just taking longer than we had all been told—promised," Romney said. "And I can tell you that I know he’s a very eloquent person and he’s able to describe these policies in great detail and in some respects tell you that night is day and day is night, but people know better."

Romney doesn't have to say a word until the election.

O's done, everyone knows it... even the libtard press.

Why haven't Reid or Pelosi come to his aide? (the word is distancing)

Would that be like the "distance" between GW Bush and every other republican on the planet? Is that the type of distancing you are referring to?

Dream on - every time Romney opens his mouth he sticks his foot in it. Guess that's why he can't give an answer on fair pay for women, immigration, what tax loopholes he will close, the carried interest tax, violence against women, what federal agencies he would eliminate, etc. Same thing he did when he ran for the Senate in 94 - he's a snake. Mitt the dimwit!

In addition to jet setting across the nation and the world, hob knobbing with celebrities, the "KING" apparently also likes to play golf...a lot.

President Barack Obama played his hundredth round of golf on Sunday at the Beverly Country Club in Chicago, Ill.

Obama has played more rounds of golf in one term than President George W. Bush did in his entire eight years in office, ABC News reports. Bush played golf 24 times in eight years.

Don't worry, he really is focused on our economy and jobs!

You don't call a emergency room physician who resusitates a dying patient a failure; President Obama resusitated a dying capitalist system and now the patient is in recovery. A lot different than the conservatives who would have pulled the plug and waited to see if the dying patient would recover on his own.

While the recovery is slow and likely to be affected by the European recession caused by austerity; the financial market is doing fine, and Mitt Romney and his 1% privileged class should thank President Obama for restoring their wealth.

We call an emergency room Dr. a failure for killing a patient. Obama keeps injecting poison into a once thriving capitalist system as the patient is in a coma.

This statement does not do a whole lot to instill confidence in your grasp of the situation of what happened in Europe.

    What's wonderful?

    The flip flopping?

    The endless lies?

The $10 Trilllion his proposals would add (per the CBO)?

The never ending misrepresentation and misdirection?

His refusal to put out plans on immigration, healthcare, how he plans to cut costs?

    His pledge to Grover?

Please enlighten us about how "wonderful" Willard is. I'm not seeing it.

I remind you that Willard has NEVER polled above Obama. You are in the minority.

This election is a choice between two visions for the future of America: One vision is for continuation of the progressive vision of a balance between equality and freedom as the moral foundation of justice, and a more recent conservative vision of an entitlement due the wealthy and the equivalence of corporations to the rights and protections of natural persons under the Constitution.

The free market is a myth: if it isn't regulated by government to prevent fraud, it is regulated by the corporate oligarchy to prevent competition. Free means not having to go to jail for fraud and theft.

This election is a moral choice between affiliation or aggression, empathy or egotism, service or selfishness, cooperation or competitiveness.

A progressive future is one in which government is a custodian of the public trust and advocates for justice; where justice is a balance between equality and freedom. Government as a custodian of the public trust means that everyone plays by the same rules and that everyone is equal before the law. Public trust means the rights of the people to preserve and protect the common property of the United States is not severable to the interests of privatization. Public trust means that a corporation has no rights except those given to it by law and does not have equal standing with a natural born person under the Constitution.

The conservative future is one of a hostile corporate takeover with privatization of government functions. The corporate takeover means that having wealth is an effective barrier to others participating in the process of government. It means that government would no longer serve the interests of the community but collaborate with the wealthy corporate owners to establish a separate set of laws that entitle them to preferential treatment while creating barriers to competition by eliminating opportunities for others.

The tale of two visions is the difference between a government of the people, by the people and for the people, and a government run by a plutocracy of corporate power.

This upcoming election does indeed to appear to be a choice between two visions of the future of America. One is a continuation of progressive policies where everyone is forced to be equal in their choices. Under the progressives your life choices will be made for you including how many children you can have, what kind of house you can live in, how much money you can make and how you can use that money. From each according to his abilities and to each according to his needs.

Or you can choose the right wing version of government to protect our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you wanted to work for it you could excel and become of those 1 percenters.

The Choice is yours now but not so much after 4 more years of Obama

Looking at the Republican Party over the last twelve years it becomes clear they have become totally against any bipartisanship and any type of compromise, no matter what it costs the people. What they are totally fixed on, which they deceptively offer as being "conservative", is a subservient loyalty to "big money", their supporters and masters. The Republican / Tea Party has literally become owned and controlled by "the money", as is totally evident in the mega-millions being used to control their own people, even forcing out any "moderates", and in aggressively promoting their propaganda to con the people and manipulate public opinion. They are now literally just "puppets" for "the few" who consistently "pull their strings".... and If the average American, Republican / Democrat / Independent, fails to recognize the obvious inherent problems in that cancer, then we are just apt to be returned to "more of the same", Bush-Cheney style, (and worse) that costs us so much.

Attacking "big government", government spending and the deficit alone, while worthwhile goals, won't solve the problems as once the deceptive smokescreen is put aside it can be seen that faulting those things is used to excite emotions and hide what is actually the real cause of the problems, being the constant exploitation by "the few", allowed by permissive and co-responsible politicians, enabling "the few" to walk away with great gains while always leaving the substantial costs to the majority. That is the reality that continually feeds the insatiable "more" appetite of "the few" while always costing the majority and is what is rationalized as being "conservative". It has been said that the Republicans, with their current mentality, are incapable of honestly and responsibly governing and their abandonment of the people to concentrate only on "the few" while depending on the power, influence and money provided to con and manipulate the people, clearly substantiates that truth and the costs to the people.

Obama and the Democrats leave much to be desired starting with needing to be firmer, stronger more unified and quicker to aggressively respond to the Republicans, while still being transparent (a valuable contrast) and to make boldly clear the deception and problems they are fighting. They offer more diversity in their ranks, which better represents the people, and by the nature of the difference in philosophies they are not as attractive for “the money” to control ... but they really have to counter the substantial money, power and influence that backs the Republicans just to get the people their message. That is a difficult challenge.

The people, the voters have responsibility too. “The money” is spending mega-millions (one individual alone paid $21M to support Gingrich, now has given $10M to Romney and says he will give all that is needed from his $25B net worth) that along with their substantial power and influence, is being used to support the conning of the people and the manipulation of public opinion - that is what the people have to recognize and understand is not being done out of the goodness of “the money’s” collective heart ... there are real strings attached. Bush-Cheney proved beyond any doubt, when using their offices and America’s resources to benefit only “the few”, that the “trickle down” theory is a total fraud only making the wealthy wealthier and soliciting political support; the always growing spread between the very wealthy and everyone else clearly identifies this country is constantly being pushed further into a two-class society with “the few” (1%) competing in having it all, while the majority (99%) continues to lose more; the Republican’s constant focus on protecting “the money’s” interests while stubbornly and arrogantly refusing to do anything real for the people; ... those are the strings and the goals they demand in return for what they spend. They are effectively stealing the average American’s basic rights - not just the American Dream and not just to sway the public’s voting ... but also to control the individual’s thinking. There is nothing but an abundance of subterfuge and the substantial costs for the majority in all of it and the people have the responsibility to recognize and firmly reject all of the propaganda and the “puppet” politicians - else they can blame only themselves.

Maybe you should check out opensecrets.org before you start lying about "big money" only supporting Republicans. Unions represent "big money", Hollywood represents "big money" and, if you will go to this site, you will see that corporations have given almost equally to both parties while unions and the Hollywood elite have given almost exclusively to Democrats. It was Obama that said he would raise 1 billion dollars for his re-election campaign, not a Republican. The problem we have in Washington is called Crony Capitalism and both sides are guilty but the only way to slow this down is to take the toys away from these politicians and move them into the 50 states where they belong.

When "comprimise" has become defined as "do it the democrat way or not at all", the Republicans are right to refuse to comprimise. Case in point? Harry Reid refusing to allow over forty bills passed by the House to come to the Senate floor for discussion.

So whats so bold about Romney taking Wisconsin. It would be a lot bolder if BO said he was going to take Wisconsin.

The Republicans don't take anything. They buy it just like Walker bought his re-election. In addition to using fear mongering, it's the only way they know how to win.

Mountainlioness: Walker bought his re-election? He was the sitting Governor ELECTED by the majority, a special interest group did not like his policy and worked on a recall, the MAJORITY once again re-elected him, as a vip once said, "get over it, I won", or , "you can ride in the back of the bus". Get over it, you're a sore LOSER!!!!!!!!

Will President Obama blame Mr. Bush during the debates?

Will President Obama continue to blame Mr. Bush during the debates?

How will President Obama defend his failures and his dismal “O”-conomy during the debates?

Excuses, finger pointing, blame game? Seriously, will that be what he has to offer, after 4 years as President and follow with “There’s more work to do?”

Will the American people remember who caused Obama to fail?

Will the American people remember who caused Obama to fail in November?

How will the Republicans recover after Obama wins the election---again?

Fear mongering, suppressing votes, forgetting the poor and middle class? Seriously, will raising taxes on everyone but the rich be what they have to offer? And yes, after 4 years as President and 4 more to work with we can finally get to work and bring our country back from Republican ruin.

OMIT ROMNEY-----OBAMA/BIDEN NOVEMBER 2012-----FOUR MORE YEARS WITH A CONGRESS THAT WORKS WITH AND NOT AGAINST-----FORWARD NOT BACKWARD!

Mr. Obama, our president is responsible for his failure. The same folks trying to blame our president's failures on others.......

are the same folks who tried to blame Mr. Bush for all that was wrong......

        same old same old.....

Mr. Obama has been a huge dissapointment to many who had confidence in him.

We need a new coach who knows how to produce something other than excuses and blame :)

When dubya policy stops blowing up the deficits, people will stop blaming Bush. At least some people know whose policy blew things up. Some folks just blame the new guy, even though they can't name one policy of his that is driving the current deficits.

I have named the policies that got us into this mess. The way you libbies have resonded is to shove your heads even farther up your asses and then blame Bush for not undoing what was done.

What got us into this mess has its beginnings way before Bush took office but because you know that everyday Americans won't buy into your "share the wealth" mentality you insist on placing blame on those who would resist your ignominious plots.

Look it's going to be a tough fight for Mr. Obama if the economy keeps struggling along Republicans know this so why should they help the President do anything now, when they have a chance to control everything and have there yes man as President!!! After all Mr Norquist said "we don't need any type of debate about what bills we send to the President we just need someone who'll sign them!!" In other words if we want to cut taxes for top income earners then sign it, if we want to cut corporate taxes for all corporations large and small sign it, if we want to cut the people eligible for food stamps down to making 400 a month after taxes sign it, if we want the retirement age raised to 70 for social security and medicare and for people on Medicaid have to have an income less then 400 a month then sign it, if we want to cut the amount of construction and trasportation funding to 50 billion a year sign it, if we want to raise defense spending and requiring all young men and women under 21 to serve in the arm forces sign it, I could keep but the crux of what I'm saying is that mr Romney is going to be a puppet and the GOP will control him.

More like maybe Romney can use the Wizard of Oz for the debates. He's the puppet. Please tell us what his plans are for the middle class, the poor, and the elderly. What are his plans for our crumbling infrastructure? I have more questions than answers where Romney is concerned. Does he have an opinion of his own, really? All he does is repeat Republican talking points and alienate people. I say this, if you want this country to become the Republican States of America, vote for the robot. I will vote for Obama!

And Mr. Obama's fix is to give jobs to Unions members. You do realize that the 800 mil that went to stimulus had a tag to it .....dont you? It HAD to go to union member's! Even people who owned construction companies with people hurting.....got nothing. Here in my town 30 million went to produce 6 sets of curbs, yep signs went up ...we waited and waited and waited..... then 30 unions member's showed up 12 holding signs (stop/slow) 6 truck drivers 5 supervisors and 7 people putting down curbs. For 30 million dollars......... what a deal!
