Romney predicts he'll retake Wisconsin for Republicans

JANESVILLE, WI -- Mitt Romney made a bold prediction in Wisconsin to open the fourth day of his swing state bus tour: he would steal the Badger State from the Democratic column this November.

"I think President Obama had just put this in his column, he just assumed at the very beginning Wisconsin was going to be his," Romney told a crowd of more than 700 supporters gathered on a factory floor here. "But you know what, we’re going to win Wisconsin. We’re going to get the White House."

Romney made only one stop here today on his five-day, six-state bus tour, and it might be for the best -- his campaign bus might not have seats for all the surrogates who came out to support him this morning.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gestures during a campaign stop at Monterey Mills June 18 in Janesville, Wis.

There was Sen. Ron Johnson, who toppled Democrat Russ Feingold in 2010, and Reince Priebus, the Kenosha-born former Wisconsin GOP chairman who now leads the Republican National Committee.

"I got to tell you we have a little stimulus plan of our own and the stimulus plan is renowned by economists, like Paul Ryan," Priebus said. "Here is the stimulus plan: elect Mitt Romney, fire Barack Obama, and save America, right?"

But the loudest cheers weren't for Rep. Paul Ryan, the hometown favorite in Janesville and possible vice presidential contender; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, the recent victor in a recall election who introduced Romney, who elicited the loudest cheers from the crowd.

“It is my honor to still be the 45th governor of Wisconsin and it is my honor to be on the stage with the man I hope is the 45th president of these United States,” Walker said.

Walker's retention in the face of a labor-backed recall challenge, has fired up the Republican base here. The governor emerged as a hero to conservatives after eliminating most public workers' collective bargaining rights. Despite sharp disagreements over the implications of Walker's victory over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) earlier this month, the Romney campaign's senior advisers say they plan to compete aggressively in Wisconsin this fall, if only to keep President Obama on defense.

Romney was also on the attack this morning, accusing the president of replacing a slogan of "hope and change" with a hope to change the subject away from the economy, and of being unable to run on a tepid economic recovery the president insists needs more time to catch fire.

"These are challenging times for Americans, and because of [President Obama's] failed record his campaign is having a hard time deciding what to talk about, because they’d like to talk about the economy, they'd like to talk about his record but you know, the last time his campaign slogan was hope and change this time he’s going with: we hope to change the subject," Romney said.

Romney and Democrats also traded charges of evasiveness in the speech and subsequent spinning from the Obama campaign, with a spokesperson for the president's campaign declaring Romney's speech to be packed with "evasive and angry rhetoric," and Romney accusing the president of trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people as he fought for more time in office.

"He tries to tell people that his policies are actually working, that its just taking longer than we had all been told—promised," Romney said. "And I can tell you that I know he’s a very eloquent person and he’s able to describe these policies in great detail and in some respects tell you that night is day and day is night, but people know better."

No surprise there, he'll just BUY IT! Like Walker did, with the help of Koch brothers and all that outside money allowing him to outspend any opponent by at least 7 to 1. How did Romney buy that primary from Newt in SC, was it? Outspent him by like 30 to 1 or something? It's the new American way, thanks to Citizens United!

Only Obama's outspending McCain came from actual working people donating hard earned cash. Not from oil companies and Saudi princes. Citizens United allows that....

That's right I stand corrected, Solyndra DID have actual working people at one time until THEY ALL GOT LAYED OFF and the CEO'S walked away with OUR tax money. You're full of crap, Oblame'O received money from Bain Capitol too among other large corpses. Oh yeah Microsoft isn't a large corpses, it's a tiny unknown company made up of working people. Keep spinning for Oclam'O.

I would not be surprised if Romney won the election, such is the short memory span of the Republican crowd, who live in a state of constant fear. Fear of the left, fear of Muslims, fear of Castro, fear of Chavez, fear of Assad, fear of Iran, fear of North Korea, fear, fear, fear.

And this is supossed to be the LAND OF THE BRAVE? They cannot make up their minds unless somebody puts de fear of God into them, then they have a "cause" which is always the same: FEAR!

The only ones who have no fear are the arms manufacturers and the military establishment, they live off it.

Never been to Wisconsin myself but I'm going to guess that we're dealing with good "salt of the Earth" type people here so I don't think it's possible to underestimate the exit polls that showed that a key factor in the recall election was that a very significant percentage of the voters found the entire process unpalatable and whilst they didn't necessarily "support" Governor Walker they also couldn't get behind the idea of recalling him either.

I concur with this view personally, unless we're talking something like criminality or the like by an elected officeholder I'm loathe to the concept of recall elections. I thought it was bogus when it was done to Gray Davis over spiraling energy prices in California (prices that ENRON turned out to have rigged as we later discovered...) and was against it for Walker as well.

That said I would be very careful in reading much into Walker surviving this process as far as it goes for Romney's prospects come November.

My goodness! In spite of trying to give you some credit for answering, the only conclussion I can draw from your deranged rant is that you are a real ignorant and pitiful piece of trash.

All by yourself you have come to know that I am a momma's boy just because I don't agree with whatever delusional opinion you have about being a man. You have serious issues about machismo, you believe, in fact you WANT to believe, that anybody who has a different pionion is some lazy idiot who wants YOU to pay his way in life. I don't need you or anybody else to give me anything, I have probably more to spend in one month that what you have for the entire year, given the fact that you live in that trailer park guzzling six-pack after six-pack and watching war movies in order to feel macho and strong. Serving in the military does not make you a man, ask those who committed murder and rape during their "service" to their country. I suspect that if you served you also got away with actions befitting your moral turpitude.

With people like you THE LAND OF THE BRAVE has become the land of the Neanderthals and the land of the mentally deprived, judging by your inane and empty rhetoric. You get off by calling names to people you don't even know exist, and who are so much above your little intellectually empty brain that it seems that somebody like you should be working for a circus as a third rate clown, at the most.

What I have done and seen in my life would take you one thousand years to achieve, if ever. So go back to your little cave and when you have something substantial to say, don't say it, it will be nothing important, I can assure you.

Please not that this is the first and ONLY time I will be answering your white trash posts. I don't believe in self mutilation.

All I got to say again as always this is just an up or down election about what government means and can do to help you!!! If the best thing government can do is cut corporate taxes and income taxes for high income earners and hope that thaey're willing to hire after they have more money in the re pockets then you must vote for the corporate board rubber stamper ROmney. If you think the government can help keep you busy working by hiring more construction workers, police officers, firefighters and teachers, and yet keeping your taxes low through the payroll tax cut and nobody taxes going up with a family making 250,000 or less (median income now is down to under 78,000 according to the FED) then vote for the President.

But when it comes to energy, obama not only dropped natural gas by 2/3 of its cost in three years, he also cut the use of gasoline. Yes. Yes. Gasoline consumption is decreasing. And why. I tell you it's because of all of the high gasoline mileage cars are getting today. Because obama's cash for clunkers worked.

First the prius is #3 in world wide sales. The #1 car is the corolla and #2 the focus. All high gas mileage cars. But hey, wait until the 2013 cars appear. The honda fit - 118 mpg combined. The 200mph, 700 hp, 0-60 in 2.6 sec 2013 porche gets 80 mpg. I tell you the handwriting is on the wall. Gasoline consumption will drop much more.

And remember from your economics class the case of inelasticity of supply of gasoline. Sure gasoline prices goes thru the roof when supplies are tight, but they fall thru the floor when demand falls off. Take when mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo & the bushman had freddie and fannie robo signing all bad home loans. It pumped up the economy and oil prices went up to $150/barrel in 2007.

Then the home market leveled off. The bad loans couldn't be paid for and $16T in home based loan derivatives became valueless. The economy collapsed. Gasoline prices dropped and oil prices went to $35/barrel. But I tell you when the new 2013 cars fill the market, oil prices will again be $35/barrel. It's already down to $85/barrel the lowest it has been in years.

But hey, the keystone pipeline is only profitable when oil is at $65/barrel or higher. It provides the highest cost gasoline ever. The romney energy plan like the bushman's is a loser. Obama is going to get you gasoline below $2/gallon. Romney will never tell you that the keystone pipeline will drop the price of gasoline.

The Keystone Pipeline is the only way the Canadians can get their nasty tar oil to Texas. It will do nothing for this country because once it hits Texas, it will be exported. As for the jobs this pipeline is supposed to create, the answer is yes and no. The yes part is while it is being built, it will create jobs. After it is completed, the only jobs available will be minimal as they will involve periodic inspections for leaks. That pipeline is nothing but an environmental disaster. I would like to see Omit Robme build it b y himself. Now that would be entertainment!

If Romnuts falls through at the convention the GOP could try another actor, like Tom Cruise or John Travolta. Both have 'rock star' status, will deliver their lines better than RR did, and might be a cheaper hire than Mitt. If Mitt can be sold to the Christian Taliban then so could a Scientologist. Just give Cruise or Travolta a promise of ending the FDA's and IRS's persecution of their group, throw in another space port, and you'll have your front man for the NWO. Robomny will take a golden parachute payment of Utah and Nevada, might have to throw in San Diego too since he has a mansion there as an anchor/seaport for the Mormon Nation.

He's kept gitmo open, he kept Bush's Secretary of Defense and used his policies to get Osama Bin Obama which is all he's got as any resemblance of a record. Maybe a fair trial to Obonzo is a double tap to the head or a drone (from a drone) special delivery from above. How does the fact that 'Oblame'O on Bush' is relying solely on the good 'ol MIC for his past record make you feel now? Now Oclam'O needs to be charged with war crimes just like Bush for not giving our enemies a fair shake. (sound familiar libs?)Whatever happened to giving these clowns a fair trial?? Where are you now to protest Oblame'O????? I hear nothing but crickets.

Hey Blearyeyed, think your vision went from over indulging in that "tea" that the tea-brained do nothings in are serving up. FIRST we have NEVER drilled MORE oil than we have under THIS administration. So the mythology that the President has interfered with oil production is just that. We would not have the oil conglomerates making RECORD HIGH MONEY otherwise, of course the tea-brains who can't seem to understand that subsidies from the GOVERNMENT should go to those most in NEED, insist on greasing the palms of the oil slicksters more, even the oil slicksters were embarrassed taking those subsidies stating to CONGRESS that they don't NEED that money now. But no the rethugs won't hear of them NOT getting tax dollars that they DON'T NEED! lmao.

Hey Righties Don't Stomp My Head, you may want to research that. Oil production is up on privately owned land, but down drastically on the permits that Obama can deny. So you are being disingenuous.

Additionally, Obama granting amnesty without congress sets a bad example; what happens when your guy is not in office and someone you disagree with does the same thing? Hypocrite.

Additionally, invading foreign airspace to kill people with drones, including an American citizen; Obama making hit lists monthly. Yet he decried water boarding which really has no effect on a person... where is code pink? Where are the libs complaining about Americans killing overseas? Again, hypocrite.

Obama is going to lose and lose badly... The good news is that Jimmy Carter can now pass on knowing he was not the worst president ever.

Why shouldn't oil companies make a whole lot of money on a product that you, the world and our country all desparately need badly to live each and everyday? Lets go without it and see how that'll go for 'ya. These companies work hard to find, extract and refine the life blood of the world. Without oil the 'most in NEED' would not exist in the first place or they will be 'in NEED' even more. How 'bout the 'in NEED' go out and work like the rest of us. They have a lower profit margin than most other businesses like Hollywood, Apple and all the country clubs Oblame'O played his 100 rounds of golf in, among a few. The government makes more money off a gallon of gas than the oil companies do while they sit on their @sses and complain, blame and collect the money. If you have a widget everyone in the whole absolutely needed to live, you'd make a dam good profit too even with a small profit margin through sheer volumn. So get a clue. Yes lets bite the hand that feeds us and we'll all ride our rickshaws to work everyday. That'll work.

No it only rewards only a certain group of FELLONS to break the law while requiring law abiding Americans to follow them. That's all. I can think of some laws I don't like that we shouldn't have to follow either. Can I pick laws I don't like too?? I don't like the speed limits since they are unfair and my car needs to be free. Set my car free Mr President. Can I have my moving violation fines back too? I'll just tell the nice police man that Oblame'O gave me permission to go as fast as I want since the speed limit is unfair, that'll do it. This desparate fool will do anything when he's behind in the polls and needs a vote or two. It's things like this that will only lead to Oscram'O's defeat in November. Romney will use executive action to reverse this mistake until illegal imigration can be dealt with properly as it should be.

Rick - Dubya policy took care of that surplus and the balanced budget he inherited. Where have you been? He turned it into a $1.4 Trillion annual deficit and collapsed the entire economy. Does any of this sound familiar? It wasn't that long ago.

When did Bush have a 1.4 trillion annual budget deficit?

Isn’t it Amazing, you always hear the Republicans and TeaBilly Politicians Threatening to Reduce or Stop Payment on Unemployment, Social Security, Medicare, Food Stamps, Military Pay and Benefits , Etc. But have you ever heard of them Threatening to Reduce or Stop any of Their Pay, Healthcare and all the other Special Perks they receive (Paid for by our Tax $$$$$$$).

Lets break this down in simple terms. Republican TeaBilly Conservative = Self Righteous Hypocrite.

All Politicians are nothing more than Political Puppets. Every move they make is controlled by the Lobbyist, Special Interest, and the Self Righteous.

Half of all money raised by Politicians (Including Super PAC’S) should go towards the National Debt and Charity. Why don't we "Tax" the Millions of dollars that they collect for their Campaigns?

They should also pay for their own Security out of these Campaign Funds.

Chris Matthews has just eviscerated Romney on Hardball. I would say he cut him to the core, but it is pretty clear the core is hollow.

I heard something really super funny the otherday. "When Obama gets his second term he will _____"

It's vacation city for Obama and his family... Good for them. Their job is done reminding the country what liberals can do to a perfectly good country. Romney will be Reagan 2.0 EVERYBODY will love him by the time of his second term. When gas is .99 gallon. And the dollar bill is worth .99 too.

Wacko - actually, the liberals are (once again) trying to clean up the mess left behind by a Republican administration - heck, they have been doing this since 1932.

Oh, and for your information: If you think gas can ever get close to .99 a gallon again, you better wake up from your little fantasy there. Ain't gonna happen.
