Romney predicts he'll retake Wisconsin for Republicans

JANESVILLE, WI -- Mitt Romney made a bold prediction in Wisconsin to open the fourth day of his swing state bus tour: he would steal the Badger State from the Democratic column this November.

"I think President Obama had just put this in his column, he just assumed at the very beginning Wisconsin was going to be his," Romney told a crowd of more than 700 supporters gathered on a factory floor here. "But you know what, we’re going to win Wisconsin. We’re going to get the White House."

Romney made only one stop here today on his five-day, six-state bus tour, and it might be for the best -- his campaign bus might not have seats for all the surrogates who came out to support him this morning.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gestures during a campaign stop at Monterey Mills June 18 in Janesville, Wis.

There was Sen. Ron Johnson, who toppled Democrat Russ Feingold in 2010, and Reince Priebus, the Kenosha-born former Wisconsin GOP chairman who now leads the Republican National Committee.

"I got to tell you we have a little stimulus plan of our own and the stimulus plan is renowned by economists, like Paul Ryan," Priebus said. "Here is the stimulus plan: elect Mitt Romney, fire Barack Obama, and save America, right?"

But the loudest cheers weren't for Rep. Paul Ryan, the hometown favorite in Janesville and possible vice presidential contender; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, the recent victor in a recall election who introduced Romney, who elicited the loudest cheers from the crowd.

“It is my honor to still be the 45th governor of Wisconsin and it is my honor to be on the stage with the man I hope is the 45th president of these United States,” Walker said.

Walker's retention in the face of a labor-backed recall challenge, has fired up the Republican base here. The governor emerged as a hero to conservatives after eliminating most public workers' collective bargaining rights. Despite sharp disagreements over the implications of Walker's victory over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) earlier this month, the Romney campaign's senior advisers say they plan to compete aggressively in Wisconsin this fall, if only to keep President Obama on defense.

Romney was also on the attack this morning, accusing the president of replacing a slogan of "hope and change" with a hope to change the subject away from the economy, and of being unable to run on a tepid economic recovery the president insists needs more time to catch fire.

"These are challenging times for Americans, and because of [President Obama's] failed record his campaign is having a hard time deciding what to talk about, because they’d like to talk about the economy, they'd like to talk about his record but you know, the last time his campaign slogan was hope and change this time he’s going with: we hope to change the subject," Romney said.

Romney and Democrats also traded charges of evasiveness in the speech and subsequent spinning from the Obama campaign, with a spokesperson for the president's campaign declaring Romney's speech to be packed with "evasive and angry rhetoric," and Romney accusing the president of trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people as he fought for more time in office.

"He tries to tell people that his policies are actually working, that its just taking longer than we had all been told—promised," Romney said. "And I can tell you that I know he’s a very eloquent person and he’s able to describe these policies in great detail and in some respects tell you that night is day and day is night, but people know better."

Where is Sarah "maverick" Palin during all this? Oh that's right! She's still coming to grips with pardoning that chicken up in Alaska whilst in the background others were being slaughtered. It's curtains for repugnicans and tea-baggers and Mittens and his flip-flops.

Hey 13bvet, the 1% is the small minority of unknown donors from the Super Pacs, which your SCOTUS allowed, which is a and remains a travesty on this country's history as a democratic nation. Unknown money, foreign unknown money, all a re allowed to purchase the Oval office. That's the 1% dummy. Try and stretch your brain a bit and a take another focus.

Romney is that 1%. Is his wife helping the poor, like the old Bush woman when she wrote a book on Beagles or stated that the Super dome looked like a good place to stay for a few days - that is until the toilets backed up. No poor hardworking Ann is in England, at a posh hotel while training her horse for the middle class sport called Equestrianism. No way pal, Wisconsin made it clear that the GOPers and TPers are anti union and will strip the unions of any collective bargaining power. Take away a man/woman's right to bargain for improvements or necessities and you are back in the late 19th century - slavery in the workplace and a Tale of Two Cities will reemerge.

I have (1) son who just completed his 2nd tour in Afghanistan in service to this country in the US Army MI Corp. who left his wife and small son in Fairbanks, AK to fend for themselves and Mitt Romney would have you believe that his (5) sons, of which not one has given a day of military service to this country, have made an equal sacrifice to this country helping him get elected President.

I wouldn't vote for this con artist POS to clean out my toilet bowl.

Most liberals during the Vietnam war were drastically against US involvement. See Jane Fonda for her support of the troops during the Vietnam war. Most Liberals spent that time in Canada. Talk about hypocrites.

Road Warrior you are correct. I do admire President Obama for all the hard decisions he has made during his presidency. Some will work for him others against.

The facts concerning OBL taking him out was the right thing to do; the reason Conservatives would not as evident by GWB not Doing it.....were to keep America scared and to continue to pump insane amounts of money into the War on Terror so private war contractors profit, Reduce American's rights in the name of National Security and keep the masses of uniformed America under control.....because they do not want us to see whats behind the curtain.

I know how you Republicans hate when we fail to mention Republicans so I said it a few times to make sure you get the credit your party deserves for it. PRESIDENT REPUBLICAN RICHARD NIXON HAD RESIGNED THE OFFICE BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE MOST CERTAINLY BEEN IMPEACHED. Plus, here is another little fact for you, Republican Richard Nixon is the one that started the EPA that you love so much. Those are the facts even on Wikipedia, look it up !

Republicans need to learn to THINK!!!

According to the CBO and virtually every single non-partisan source we have had over
two straight years of economic and private sector job growth, This isn't some BS rant
coming from Democrats, It is a simple FACT

Public sector job growth has not done nearly as well unfortunately, But checking facts
shows that Republican Governors have defunded rural fire depts, And laid off tens of
thousands of school teachers, police, firemen (Many while watching their States burn
to the ground as a result of these cuts.

As an Inde I can look at both sides and plainly see,,,,,,,,,The Republican party is going
down the tubes and grasping for any straws they can see, The Republican cadidate
seems totally incapable of giving any solid information about what his plans are if he
actually manages to get elected and has a record that reflects his indecisive nature.

Through it all I see the funniest part to be the accusations that Obama has fought for
women's rights, hispanics rights, gay rights, workingclass rights, etc purely as political
stunts,,,,,,,,,OF COURSE THEY ARE!!!!! He wants to be re-elected and helping his vote
count is the way to do that!!!

                              During the meantime

                              Republicans have

Totally alienated hispanics, women, gays, workingclass, blacks, asians, uninsured, poor
virtually everyone in the USA who are not solid blind followers of the Republican rhetoric
                              machine.

No Mitt, You will not win Wisconsin, You will not when the election, And Republicans will
be lucky to hold a majority in either house, YOUR KILLING YOUR OWN PARTY!!!!!!

I will let the Bush tax cuts expire. Shovel ready jobs. Now, he is saying we will continue to occupy Afghanistan through 2014. No lobbyists in the White House. Who is Jeff Immelts? I will not take any super pac money. Healthcare negotiations will be on CSpan. Unemployment under 8% if he got the stimulus bill on his desk. I did not become President to help a bunch of fat cats on Wall Street. Never mind his top four donors were banks.

Will Mitt Romney ever take a firm stance on anything?

Yes, Mitt Romney Will take a firm stance on everything once he is in office

Be vigilant: Whatever you may think of President Obama Good, bad or indifferent! Any elected GOP POTUS will be a carbon copy/clone of all GOP Governors elected in 2010, and want to complete the state of affairs they started. There is no recall for a POTUS.

We could end up with a combination of Europe’s economy and the doctrine that was used between: 1939-45 during War II in Germany.

So where ever you live pass the word to vote, help people to vote and if you live in a State that has passed a voting law for the main purpose of suppressing votes, go to every neighborhood, church, nursing home, community center, school and drive, bus or truck everyone that needs to get to the place to get their special voters ID or this country will go into the hands of not only this country top 1% but the worlds 1% and considering all the other laws the Republican Governors has also been passing there will be no more middle class or rights not only for minorities but women as well.

I for one say that if there really is voter fraud in this country and it can be proven without a reasonable doubt and not just 6 in 5 millions but real fraud, then Ok let’s do something about it. But do it in a way that leaves all people to have the necessary time to get their papers etc. in order, have cameras set up at all the voting stations and then the voters receive a voter ID card but do this in a way that it is done over numerous election periods 2-4 years to keep the psychological effect of it to a minimum.

Not pass a law today and say in 2-6 months if you do not have proper ID you cannot vote, this is a form of fraud on a larger scale they are literally controlling who and when people can vote. Tell me how up to 1 million people can get proper ID in a 2-6 month period, it isn’t going to happen, and they know it, even if the MVA stayed open 24/7 from now till Nov. at least 37 States has passed simpler voting laws. The GOP is literally stealing and buying another election.

I was just in the Bahamas and got an interesting tour. The guide pointed out an area of solid block stone cut out by slaves to build an escape route for British soldiers from a fort. "They had no unions so there were no work rules". Just what the Dixiecrat Republicans want to return to. If not "slavery" they definitely have a vision of American workers as coolie labor.

                                    "Dixiecrats" are actually democrats. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixiecrat

It did not matter where you worked in 1680, there were no unions. No OSHA, no EPA. Back in the day, you had to "work" for a living.

If you wanted to see a "democrat" in 1680, all you had to do was look down. They could be found groveling for change in every corner, begging for food or digging through garbage. Just look for the loser who did not want to work. Just like today, actually.

I just dont see how Wisconsin can be a blue state. Romney should have a campaign logo "Obama cant fix what we f..cked....up"! It probably will not fixed even in 50 years and it took one sh...t head President and 8 years of his sh..ty ruling.

Be careful Republicans don't bring another sh..t head (that we don't even know upon us). Howe come that in 15 minutes interview with Romney on Sunday, he didn't say one word???!!

I see where Old Red made the first post today. Congratulations! Hahaha! Funny how you liberals will believe anything written about Obama. I have swamp land for sale too. I was reflecting last night how the worst President at the time (Jimmy Carter) ruined the ecomomy during his term and Ronald Reagan came behind him and fixed all of Carter's screw ups and NEVER used the excuse that it would take longer than he had planned or that somebody else made the mess he was having to deal with. Now, the worst President is Obama and he is blaming everyone for what all is screwed up rather than fixing it. (He doesn't have the experience or the knowledge to fix anything). When Romney wins, I'll bet he won't blame anyone but will simply fix the problem. Of course the real problem is we have waaaay too many liberals in this country. "Doing fine" - Nobama 2012

PEW...., you have really bought into the propaganda. The economy was improving under Carter after the Nixon/Ford (Cheney and Rumsfeld as staffers) recession. Reagan's double speak sold everyone on the idea that the economy was failing and his trickle down economics would make everything better. Reagan's administration only created another rape of the taxpayers and record unemployment. Look at the Dept. of Labor stats and economic history. The Iran Hostage situation going past the elections was the nail in Carters coffin more than the economy, Bush Sr. made that happen. History is repeating itself again.

The GOP policies destroyed our economy and now the GOP is keeping it bad in House.
If the GOP thinks it isn't obvious that they are hurting America with their obstructionist ways then they
will be have under estimated Americans. American will finish cleaning HOUSE and the rest

How can you even post such a stupid comment, do you actually stick your head in sand and think no Republican is responsible for any of the debt and they are the answer with Trickle down Economics, that has never worked in history. Please do us a favor and stick your entire body in sand so you can't post anymore crapola.

History has shown undecideds vote for the challenger, when an incumbent has less then 50% in the final polls they lose. The Real Clear Politics average for Wisconsin has Obama with only 47.8% and dropping. Unless things change Romnie is right he will win.

Trickle Down Economics for the win! Cutting taxes for all, including the rich, resulted in millions of new jobs and a rapid turnaround in unemployment under Reagan, Dec. 1982- Feb. 1984. Unemployment dropped 3% in 14 months, from 10.8% to 7.8%, and kept dropping from there the rest of Reagan's presidency.

We went from unemployment higher than Obama had, 10.8% in Dec 1982 to unemployment lower than it is now, 7.8%, in just over a year. Over the next 4 years it kept dropping all the way down to 5.4% in Reagan's last month.

Trickle it down, baby! Trickle it down!

You can't possibly be this mindlessly clueless. The Ray-gun RAISED taxes on numerous occasions... Tax increases that all but wiped away the benefits of the initial cuts.

Additionally, he TRIPLED the national debt..

Moving on, Clinton RAISED taxes on the highest marginal rates, and had record setting job growth numbers for an 8 year presidential Admn.

One more, the Bush tax cuts were firmly in place while unemployment was rising, most recently, from 5% to 10%.

You have absolutely, no idea what you're talking about... And, amusingly so..

                                                                      Worked??

                                                                      Current plan??

                                                                      His "way"??

This is usually spouted by the lowest of the rube class, because they lack the intellectual tools needed to discuss specific issues, policies, and programs..

How this country became the world's leading super power defies rational understanding..
