Romney predicts he'll retake Wisconsin for Republicans

JANESVILLE, WI -- Mitt Romney made a bold prediction in Wisconsin to open the fourth day of his swing state bus tour: he would steal the Badger State from the Democratic column this November.

"I think President Obama had just put this in his column, he just assumed at the very beginning Wisconsin was going to be his," Romney told a crowd of more than 700 supporters gathered on a factory floor here. "But you know what, we’re going to win Wisconsin. We’re going to get the White House."

Romney made only one stop here today on his five-day, six-state bus tour, and it might be for the best -- his campaign bus might not have seats for all the surrogates who came out to support him this morning.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney gestures during a campaign stop at Monterey Mills June 18 in Janesville, Wis.

There was Sen. Ron Johnson, who toppled Democrat Russ Feingold in 2010, and Reince Priebus, the Kenosha-born former Wisconsin GOP chairman who now leads the Republican National Committee.

"I got to tell you we have a little stimulus plan of our own and the stimulus plan is renowned by economists, like Paul Ryan," Priebus said. "Here is the stimulus plan: elect Mitt Romney, fire Barack Obama, and save America, right?"

But the loudest cheers weren't for Rep. Paul Ryan, the hometown favorite in Janesville and possible vice presidential contender; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, the recent victor in a recall election who introduced Romney, who elicited the loudest cheers from the crowd.

“It is my honor to still be the 45th governor of Wisconsin and it is my honor to be on the stage with the man I hope is the 45th president of these United States,” Walker said.

Walker's retention in the face of a labor-backed recall challenge, has fired up the Republican base here. The governor emerged as a hero to conservatives after eliminating most public workers' collective bargaining rights. Despite sharp disagreements over the implications of Walker's victory over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) earlier this month, the Romney campaign's senior advisers say they plan to compete aggressively in Wisconsin this fall, if only to keep President Obama on defense.

Romney was also on the attack this morning, accusing the president of replacing a slogan of "hope and change" with a hope to change the subject away from the economy, and of being unable to run on a tepid economic recovery the president insists needs more time to catch fire.

"These are challenging times for Americans, and because of [President Obama's] failed record his campaign is having a hard time deciding what to talk about, because they’d like to talk about the economy, they'd like to talk about his record but you know, the last time his campaign slogan was hope and change this time he’s going with: we hope to change the subject," Romney said.

Romney and Democrats also traded charges of evasiveness in the speech and subsequent spinning from the Obama campaign, with a spokesperson for the president's campaign declaring Romney's speech to be packed with "evasive and angry rhetoric," and Romney accusing the president of trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people as he fought for more time in office.

"He tries to tell people that his policies are actually working, that its just taking longer than we had all been told—promised," Romney said. "And I can tell you that I know he’s a very eloquent person and he’s able to describe these policies in great detail and in some respects tell you that night is day and day is night, but people know better."

Exit polls during the recall election show that Obama wins Wisconsin by at least 8 points.

They also showed the recall in a dead heat. It was what the final vote says. Another domino falling. Another nail in Buckwheat's coffin.

"Buckwheat"?, like the sweet little boy in the Our Gang comedies? I "youtubed" that little boy and saw he was just another good, sweet kid, one who incidentally kept bread on the table during the Great Depression for himself, his parents and his entire family.

Still, Jerry40yeardemocrat, by that remark, you just revealed yourself to be a raging bigot!

I don't care about the candidates' religious preferences. But if a candidate practices voodoo, or howls at the moon, or claims the earth is flat, I get a little concerned. I have heard that Romney wears magic underwear to protect against evil spirits. If a person wants to do this, that's fine. But if a presidential candidate does (I say IF), then I think John Boehner and the House Republicans should open an investigation regarding this matter. IF magic underwear are effective in warding off evil spirits, then everyone should buy some and Walmart should start stocking them. If it is a ruse, so be it.

But let's all be real.......there's something very cultish about Mormonism...from its very beginnings to why Utah has very restrictive un-American laws restricting people's freedoms.

Anyone think it's normal for people to enlist in a religious recruiting trip to go find new members in cold call style?

      No?

Remember the Hari Krishna's at the airport?

Except the Mormon church is a $30 billion corporation .........no wonder theyre looking for more people that they can demand 10% from.

From what I can see, Mitt is trying to be all things to all people just to get elected. If any one thinks he's going to "fix" America, you are in for a bad surprise. Of course, if you are very wealthy you'd have nothing to fear.

blah blah blah - "he only wants to help the rich" blah blah blah - if the only thing Romney does is repeal obamacare - that will be fine. Just stopping the country from the free fall obama has put us in will be great - remember randy the recovery starts when obama is out of office , but yes - its going to take decades to fix the mess obamas made -talk about "inheriting a mess!

Mitt Romney is a wealthy Mormon puppet who doesn't know what he is saying. To get a better understanding of the cult that produced Mitt Romney and to get your socks scared off read The Assassination of Spiro Agnew, available at: www.amazon.com

It dramatizes the Mormons' anti-federal government temperament and demonstrates how their superiority complex manifests as racism, sexism, and jingoism on the ground.

It also shows the similarities between Islam and Mormonism and reveals the secrets of Mormon Mind Control.

                        Consider this review:

“With a clarity of language and vision unsurpassed in contemporary American prose, Steven Janiszewski's Assassination of Spiro Agnew takes us into a U.S. mazed with madness and Mormonism and all things Utah, a U.S. that was then and still is. Do we need a novel, even as brilliant as this one, about a young man on a divine mission to assassinate the Vice President because he is too liberal? Yes, now more than ever. Readers, welcome to a masterpiece.”

                        Tom Whalen

                        www.tomwhalen.com

Everyone should read The Assassination of Spiro Agnew.

One thing is for sure, if you don't like Romney's policies then wait until tomorrow cause they'll change. Romney had an opinion and then Rove told him he didn't so...IT DISAPPEARED!

A year ago I wouldn't have given any of the GOP ass clowns contending for the nomination any more of a chance than a flea in a furnace.

                                              Now I'm not so sure.

The GOP successfully weeded out the real, bull-moose crazy candidates, such Michele Bachmann and Caine, along with Rick Perry, the special needs student, and Romney, the presumptive candidate, for all his artificial demeanor, ever-shifting positions and his amazing ability to insert his foot into his mouth, is a tireless and quite cagey campaigner. Whatever else you may say about him, he is not stupid. He knows where Obama is vulnerable and he will hammer at it, tirelessly, mechanically and maniacally. Half of what he says is only half true, and the other half is totally untrue; but you know the old adage, if you hear something often enough, you start to believe it.

With the economy stuttering along and many parts of the country still stuck with an unemployment rate of 9 or 10%, Obama is more than a little vulnerable. Obama has also made a series of high-risk policy statements which are liable to blow up in his face. His personal utterance in support of gay-marriage may be morally correct, and even courageous, but I cannot imagine how this will help in November. Those who share his feelings on this issue had but one choice, cast their vote in his favor, or risk a Romney victory. But by openly embracing the concept of gay marriage, he may have energized and polarized those who are leery of it. The same is true of his more recent shift in immigration policy. It shows moral courage, but is likely to hurt him more than help him. Then there was his "...the private sector is doing fine" pronouncement. I'm sure he wishes he could rewind that sound bite.

Well, there's still almost 5 months between now and the November elections a lot can still happen which might help [or hurt] Obama. But he'd better get his campaign untracked soon. Romney seems to be campaigning 24x7, week in week out, and that type of grunt work does work.

yes - Romneys campaining 24/7 - thats what they do during a CAMPAIN , einstien. obama has been on a nonstop campain since being elected - he just forgot to be a president. Unfortunatly for you in the obama fan club - little barry has nothing to run on but failures. Maybe more of his empty rhetoric and platitudes will win you all over - it worked the first time , right, dman?

PC/NOT - Thanks for the silly response. Obama may lose the upcoming election, but not because he has done nothing.

Among other accomplishments, he took out Osama bin Laden, something George W. couldn't accomplish in 7-plus years of trying. He also wrapped up George's little mess in Iraq and refocused the war on terror where it belonged, where the actual terrorists are located, in places like Afghanistan and Yemen.

Romney is making a great deal of noise about the lack of progress on the economic front, and Obama may lose in November because the voters are dissatisfied with the progress which has been made. But we are in the midst of a world wide state of economic malaise, and the U.S. is actually doing much better than most of Europe. Even China has recently experienced a sudden economic slowdown.

These problems extend outside our borders and neither Romney nor Obama, nor any other political messiah has a magic wand which is going to fix it over night.

BTW: Most people spell CAMPAIGN with a 'G', genius. When you're writing your application essay for MENSA, you may want to use spell-check. You may also want to avoid big words.
