Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney along with his grandsons Parker Romney, right, and Nick Romney, center, serve pancakes during a campaign event at Mapleside Farms on Sunday in Brunswick, Ohio.
BRUNSWICK, Ohio -- While Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney campaigned across the battleground state of Ohio Sunday, he has his family standing by his side this Father’s Day.
“Let's wish a happy Father's Day to my dad,” Craig, one of Romney’s sons, told the cheering, rain-soaked crowd. “Happy Father’s Day.”
Kicking off the third day of Romney’s “Every Town Counts” tour, Romney and his wife, Ann, plus two sons, daughter-in-law, and a handful of grandkids served up pancakes at a breakfast here.
“We love to help my dad and my mom and any chance we get to fly and meet up with them we just love to do it,” Romney’s other son in attendance, Matt, told the several hundred people at Mapleside Farms. Matt went on to fondly tell a story about how his dad helped his pregnant wife when she was on bed rest.
“He [Mitt] spliced the cable, built a TV cabinet, put a TV upstairs went and found someone who could help her do errands and got this all arranged in a matter of like 30 minutes,” Matt said. “I just look at that…he taught me to be both a father and a husband."
While the two sons shared insight on Romney’s personal side this Father’s Day, the all-but-certain GOP nominee continued to jab his competitor -- President Barack Obama.
“It looks like the sun is coming out,” Romney said as he began his nearly 20-minute speech just as the rain clouds parted. “I think that’s a metaphor for the country, the sun is coming out guys. Three and a half years of dark clouds are about to part and it’s about to get a little warmer around this country, little brighter.”
Romney promises to seek immigration reform law
The Buckeye State is setting up to be the site of a fierce battle between Romney and Obama in this fall’s election. This visit marks Romney’s second visit to the state just this week and is a state Ohio GOP Sen. Rob Portman says the president should be spending more time in.
“We’re concerned for our families, our state, for our country. We’re concerned because we have a president of the United States who doesn’t know how to turn things around,” Portman, a Romney supporter and highly speculated vice presidential candidate, told the crowd while introducing Romney. “Folks he [Obama] needs to spend less time in Hollywood at fundraisers and more time with small businesses here in the state of Ohio.”
Romney served pancakes with Ann while Portman poured the syrup. The trio and Romney's two sons will all continue campaigning across Ohio on Father’s Day – two more events are planned Sunday in Newark and Troy.

Puhleez! This wannabe VP drags out that old story of the Hollywood fundraisers in the same month Adelsen promises Romney UNlimited support and on the eve of the Koch Party Convention? This would be laughable except it's too too sad. Sad that so many people buy the story.Probably think voting Republican is economically smart for the middle class too.
"After examining 77 Bain investments made between 1984 and 1999, the [Wall Street Journal] found that 22% of the companies declared bankruptcy or closed within eight years of Bain's initial investment. And poor performance led Bain to forfeit its investment in another 8%.
But there were notable successes, including pizza chain Dominos and office supplier Staples.
Typical private equity funds only receive a fraction of the winnings from their successful deals. The rest goes to investors.
But the winnings were so large that Romney earned millions.
The Journal estimates that for those 77 deals, Bain generated about $2.5 billion on investments of $1.1 billion. Overall, Bain posted gains of 50% to 80% over the period."
Considering he started with failing companies, a 70% success rate is spectacular! Just as he led Bain to success, so too can he lead the US back to greatness. He clearly also has the toughness to cut failing programs and fire deadwood to accomplish it - Toughness and excellent judgment is what the US needs right now!
The United States is not a business. It's a country, full of real flesh and blood people, like the ones who lost their jobs because of Bain, and like the ones who lost their jobs because of past failed republican policies.
Bain Capital did hostile takeovers. That means what the words say. Look it up. (It's from Wiki, but look it up somewhere else if you just like fights.)
A hostile takeover allows a suitor to take over a target company whose management is unwilling to agree to a merger or takeover. A takeover is considered "hostile" if the target company's board rejects the offer, but the bidder continues to pursue it, or the bidder makes the offer directly after having announced its firm intention to make an offer. Development of the hostile tender is attributed to Louis Wolfson.
25% or more of the companies taken over against their voting majoritys went into bankrupcy.
This is your choice. Go with steady but slow recovery (Remember slow and steady wins the race.) or risk a 1 in 4 chance of Romney doing a 'Party Boy Bush Redux' and driving us ALL off the cliff.
Feel free to refute my statements with verifiable facts, and I can do the same.
NY Times: "Leveraged buyouts are often associated with hostile takeovers to break up companies. But under Mr. Romney, Bain Capital took a smoother approach. It presented itself to corporate management teams as a partner that would help improve performance, sometimes by investing to buy smaller competitors. Its first move was usually trying to persuade management to let Bain take over." http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/04/us/politics/04bain.html?pagewanted=3
Peaches - There were a handful of companies in which jobs were lost, but the jobs created by all the others number in the hundreds of thousands ... hundreds of thousands of US workers. Romney/Bain was a net job creator.
You guys just mention this Bain business, why don`t you say anything about that big solar panel business that obama had his hands in thousands of jobs lost and millions of dollars lost? Everything obama has done wrong always gets blamed on someone else. If their not blaming Bush, now their going as far back to JFK. Are you that stupid that you can`t see what this president is doing? He claims that he got unemployment down, sure by taking people off unemployment and putting them on diability. I don`t know if Romney would be good or not but i do know that our current one has not helped our country and if he stays in for another four years, your going to see alot of people crying in their beer. Oh i forgot, they won`t be able to afford that beer!!!
Well, because we were talking about Bain Vulture Capital. You up to speed now?
His sons - all 17 of them. LOL. One of the Mormons' outdated beliefs is, to have as MANY KIDS AS POSSIBLE. This cult was invented in the late 1800s, and is still stuck there.
Anyone else other than a mega corporation masquerading as a church still think we need more people here?
to continue the metaphor: it was Romney/Bush that caused the storm! Romney wants to take us back to a mere four years ago with the very same failed policies whispered in his ear by the very same bunch of conniving failures that W. Bush had as his advisers! The Sun is coming out and the storm ended under President Obama's administration and to lie and spin it otherwise is wrong. It's like when Romney "took a great deal of credit for saving the auto industry." First, you don't take legitimate credit it is given like respect. Second, Romney not only doesn't deserve respect in regards to Detroit he deserves a kick in the groin for wanting to let them go bankrupt, which is bad enough, but then he actually took the time to write an editorial proposing that Detroit be allowed to gop bankrupt. The only thing bankrupt in this picture is Romney's morals and character! Lies, cheats, steals, cheats on his back taxes, likes firing people! This man is morally bankrupt. He is not morally qualified to lead the free World. Romney and his vulture capitalism are morally corrupt.
Nit wit Mitt, my vote you will not get!
How many wives does Mitt the mormon have?
The reasons most commonly given in church to justify polygamy are:
Wow, I guess someone likes Romney. His family who gets his bling!
Weird, most mormons like Romney kick the boys out of the compound so they can have more underage girls for themselves
What about Mormons like Harry Reid?
Protestors shouted in Ohio today for "Romney go home." Any one of his mansions wouldn't be too difficult to go home to. But, he's a Blue blood and he wants and thinks that he's entitled to another one. That's why he wants to buy the White-house.
Do not worry Romney will run away from them to somewhere he can control the press. Damn dude runs quicker than Palin
The headlines read:
Sons pitch in for Romney in Ohio on Father's Day
So they are going to join the military and support their war mongering chicken hawk POS AH of a father's policies for MORE WARS? Maybe............. but more importantly, they are Republican elites and first and foremost they are cowards like dear old dad, so they will NOT enlist to fight for our country.
Hi tater.
So why are we still in Afghanistan again?
Y`know Osama`s been dead over a year now...
And why did obama sign us up for another ten years overthere?
Y`know, he`s a real peace loving guy and all...
Maybe his sons should have told Romney he had illegals working on his yard before the press showed up
The Romney sound more like the family in the 50's call Leave it to Beaver. The perfect family who have a white picket fence and smile. Ok who are the real Romney's well their stuck up and look down on others. Mitt is all about himself and looks like he doesn't even like to touch Ann. Mitt lies and really doesn't care as he said proudly he likes to fire people. Ann is just living the rich lady life and does as she's told by Mitt. The boys are so busy like their Dad they use vitro fertilization and surrogate women to have kids. Wonder if they learned that from Dad. Mitt talks proudly of his Dad but not a word about his famous Mom. Lenore Romney was a member of the Women's Liberation Movement and ran for the US Senate. Yes clearly not following the Mormon teachings of a women just being submissive to her husband, Lenore Romney broke free and made a difference for women in the future. Ann just settles for doing what Mitt tells and while standing behind him and smile. Mitt has always been in the shadow of his famous Dad and now Mitt's son's have only their GrandFather to look up to as a real man.
Yeah Jack, I hate housewives too. They are stupid and lazy right?
Your gonna score big with that line (of bull).
MSNBC internet news is not like Cable or the network. Where is the mention of the folks who told Romney to go home? I hate to say this but some of the "first thoughts" articles are so far to the right I wonder if this is really MSNBC. Chuck Todd should really hire a Democrat to balance out his thoughts.
To be honest, I did not read this article, the "headliner" was enough to prompt this comment from me. It's great that the Romney sons pitch in for their dad on Fathers' Day in Ohio, however; it would be absolutely stellar to see the Romney sons serve in the military as have so many other sons of so many fathers in America.
Hey mit, many of those sons and fathers never made back, their sacrifice made it possible for individuals like you to be successful in America, the "middle class, poor etc". Have you no conscience?
If you want a peek into the mind of Romney....google Mormanism.....he is steeped in it. It will shock the pants off of you. I did now whether to roll on the floor laughing or scream in utter fear of this guy.
Or, you can go lds.org and see what Mormons really believe.
That's right KATHRYN, show everyone you're a bigot.
Remember Harry Reid is a devout Mormon. Continue to attack our Religious Freedoms.
Are they each paying their expenses out of their respective $20 million trust funds, or is the campaign paying their expenses????
"Daddy,....can we outsource their jobs and take their pensions now?"
"No honey,.......we gotta' wait till they elect me"
Why haven't the Romney sons served our country in the wars that Romney supports?
Which wife is this son from?
Forn a $100M trust fund, I'll help Romney and I don't like him. What do those 5 boys do for a living anyhow.
No public service, that is for sure.
Stunning..
A new generation of self absorbed, clueless whelps, who never did a hard days work, or worried for one minute about personal financial survival..
Telling us how a pampered, charter member of America's 1% should lead this country..
Really??
NONE of the Romney men have served our country. Not one of these five sons, not their father and not their grandfather. All of them are/were of age while our country is or was at war.
No leadership qualities at all.
Thermen, please remind us what branch of the Service Obama served in? His starting date and release date and where did he attend boot camp. When you get a sec, might as well include his father and grandfather's service records too while you are at it. Thanks.
I was waiting for that. When Obama came of age, America was not at war, nor was there a draft. Instead of taking offers for a lucrative career as a wall Street lawyer when he graduated form Harvard Magna Cum Laude, he chose to enter public service instead. Obama's grandfather enlisted (not drafted) in the Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served the entire war in Europe.
Thank you for your question.
Trying to put lipstick on the willard pig here is a bit laughable..
We know willard dodged serving in the military, not fighting in a war he supported.. Key phrase here -- A war he supported..
We know he wants to expand existing military forces,... forces that won't include any of his FIVE sons..
You really are quite silly..
Therman, thanks for your response. You mention Mitt's five son's not serving in the military. Was there a draft going on when they became eligible service age? Is there a draft going on today? Why don't you research what his five sons do for a living right now instead of just asking about it. You may be surprised. Are you saying that any young man or woman today who doesn't choose to serve in the military while living in a volunteer military time in our country is somehow unworthy of being an American in good standing? I wonder if we can count serving as a Govenor of a US State or running an Olympic Games, public service? Choosing to be a public organizer in your book is choosing public service correct?
Willard was of draft age during the Vietnam war where over 58,000 Americans gave their lives, a war which Willard supported. Instead of serving, he ran off and hid in France. When Willard's sons came of age there were TWO wars going on, both of which Willard strongly supports. I guess it is OK for other American's kids to go off to the wars that Willard supports and many come back in a body bag or permanently maimed, but his kids are too good for that.
Willard would have done a far better service to Massachusetts by NOT becoming Governor as he was such a lousy one. Highest debt increase per capita of any state, 47th in job creation. A horrible legacy that he refuses to talk about to this day.
Running the Olympics? Anyone could have done that with the $ billion + federal bailout it received. I guess he was a good lobbyist.
You didn't answer my question about any young American choosing not to serve while a volunteer miltary service is in place? Do you spit on all of these young Americans when you see them? Get your stats correct on Mass while you are at it. Why would a State need to be a top leader in job creation when the unemployment rate was so low in his State? Everyone had a job who really wanted one. I thought Mitt talks about Mass all of the time. Balanced budget, didn't raise taxes, had a huge surplus, worked with a 85% Democratic Legis, etc. Where did I hear all this information about? Debates, news reports? Where were you? Remember Mitt asked the Federal Goverment for more federal funds for extra security for the Winter Games of February 2002 as 9/11 had just happened to our Country and the world was coming to the games. Did that fact just slip your mind?
When Willard began as Governor the state ranked 37th in job creation, when he left it was 47th. Two things about the unemployment rate in that state during his tenure, it started out below the national average, when he left it was above, this is despite the fact that the size of the workforce DECLINED due to so many people of working age fleeing the state to find jobs elsewhere. His state was the ONLY one in the union to have a decrease in the size of it's workforce.
Taxes? Willard raised hundreds of millions in fees. A fee is tax by another name. Balanced budget? Every governor of that state had a balanced budget, it is required by law.
Security for the Olympics? That was a euphemism for a bailout. As Republican Senator McCain said at the time; "an incredible pork-barrel project for Salt Lake City and its environs”.
You are really funny. You believe a State should be a leader in job creation when your State has one of the lowest unemployment figures going? A Fee is a Fee and a Tax raise is a Tax raise. Please name the fees that you think raised "hundreds of millions" in the State of Mass. I pay a fishing fee, a corp fee, a fee to register my truck. These are not considered taxes or I would be able to write them off. I'm glad Mass has a balanced budget rule in their State. I wish Obama would put forth one for the Country. Even his own party would not vote for it and everyone in Washington knows that. No asking for some federal dollars was for increased security above the Olympic budget that was already set for the Olympics. How would one think something like 9/11 was going to happen 4 years ahead of time. The games made money-paid off all of the venues, and continues to be one of the best Winter Games ever in Olympic history. Hard for some to admit a job well done by the many and the leadership that went along with it all.
Willard claims that he is a job creator. He made the jobs situation worse when he was governor, that is a fact. When people give up looking for a job, they are not counted as unemployed, hence a lower unemployment rate. AGAIN, the unemployment rate was below the national average before Willard, and ABOVE it after. 40,000 manufacturing jobs were lost during the Willard regime.
Romney raised about $350 million annually in additional fees during Romney's first two fiscal years as governor. Romney has said the fee increases were about $240 million in fiscal 2004.
A National Conference of State Legislatures study put the figure even higher, saying Massachusetts in 2003 imposed more than $501.5 million in fee hikes, more than any other state. New York, with a far larger budget, was a distant second with $367 million.
Among the fee increases the study found: Marriage licenses went from $4 to $50, driving permits from $15 to $30, deed-recording fees from $25 to $100 and mortgage-recording fees from $36 to $158.
Romney wanted to make blind people pay a new $10 fee for a state certificate of blindness and $15 for a photo identification card, but the Legislature scrapped those proposals.
Romney's proposal to raise the firearms registration fee from $25 to $75 sparked controversy. The Gun Owners' Action League, which represents individual gun owners and gun clubs across Massachusetts, branded the move a tax increase.
"Anytime we have to pay a fee for a civil right, it's a tax increase as far as we are concerned," said Jim Wallace, the league's executive director.
The Legislature eventually increased the fee to $100, though it later extended the validity of the licenses from four to six years.
The libertarian Cato Institute took a swipe at Romney's handling of the budget squeeze in its 2006 fiscal report card on governors.
"Romney will likely also be eager to push the message that he was a governor who stood by a no-new-taxes pledge," the report card said. "That's mostly a myth. His first budget included no general tax increases but did include a $500 million increase in various fees."
Romney is a gutless wonder. Spoon fed his whole life. Plus he signs his life away to Grover Norquist. He's a sorry excuse of a human.
ROYALSTAR05 the only one that is spin less is you you put threads on here that have NO meaning spoon fed ? what ?? how this president policy have brought this country to it's knee's and we have got to take this country back , and that is exactly what we are going to do !!!! spoon feed that where the sun don't shine !!!

""Fortune released its annual list of the country's 500 biggest companies this week, and it turns out to have been a good year for corporate America. In 2011, the Fortune 500 generated a combined $824.5 billion in earnings -- an all-time record, and a 16 percent jump from the previous year.""

K12TOO STUPID TO THINK FOR YOUR SELF What this president has done has put these company's in a position that there not hiring because of the policy that have been pushed on them stop watching abc cnn cbs crap and look around you'll find most American's looking for what ?? because I'm sure you have a cushy government job but they need real jobs you think you can come on here and spout off some ridiculous lib crap and we are suppose to believe it NO !! we don't believe you so that is why we will be taking back this country in 2012 Mitt , the senate and will retain the house smoke on that , and I say that because that's the only thing NYC want to be legal any more no more food just pot !!
honesty101...?........The whole nation knows that the day after the presidents inauguration, 14-15 repub politicians met to pledge to vote against every bill proposed that would help the economy. They pledged to take the economy down just like Bin Laden wrote in his master plan. Actually telling each other they had to act like the Taliban and insurgents. Repubs then went ahead and blocked a record number of bills and did just what they said they would do. Act like Taliba. Ref Richard draper new book. Funny 101...everyone else knows but you!
starsailing:
All that you have just posted -how on earth does Mitt expect not to be beat to death with it during the fierce fighting over the economic issues hurting so many Americans during the campaigning months to come? How does he get around his party's share of the responsibility in this mess?
He must think the opposition cannot articulate it, or the people unable to comprehend it.
Is it just me, or do others think Mitt looks really foolish in bluejeans? I mean, where are the flip-flops??
He minces when he walks like he is not used to jeans.......he looks funny in them.
