I don't mind paying taxes to fund public education. If we didn't, the number of young attending school would be very, very low. Young families are at the low end of the income spectrum and the least likely to be able to afford tuition if education were privatized. Cash for clunkers was a program with 2 purposes .. 1) to stimulate new car sales in an industry that was failing and 2) to lower dependence on foreign oil by getting gas-guzzlers off the road and into the trash heap. The cars were never intended to be re-sold, and if dealers were attempting to resell cars, they were not following the program.

No laws were passed forcing people to see doctors against their will. Affordable health care was passed to encourage all people to purchase insurance, which in turn, would drive down health care premiums for all. Previously, we all had to pay for the uninsured. Now, the uninsured share part of the cost to treat them. That is a big conservative talking point - people should take care of themselves, and making the buy insurance vs. leaving others to pick up the tab fits into that theme.

The stimulus bill worked and created jobs. The biggest issue against it was that some states (notably GOP/TP controlled states) used the money to balance their budgets vs. using it on infrastructure. Why blame Congress/Obama for that epic failure at the state level?

You also need to read up on the wasting of the stimulus money. You think it isn't Obama/Congress's fault that the states spent it on things not intended? Well, yes it is because there should have been more stipulations put out there and there wasn't. Same for the big corporations, their executives found ways to increase their personal bank accounts through loopholes and how many have been prosecuted? GM and Chrysler both have said they won't be paying back all the loans they got from the bailouts. Google or Yahoo this stuff and you'll see, if you want to see. By most accounts, over half of that money was squandered or stolen.

As to ACA, nice duck. I know quite a bit about it. Your claim was about "forced health care", so you don't leave much to debate. I stand my my rebuttal that Obama/Congress has passed no law forcing you to see a doctor or go to the hospital. If by forced healthcare you mean the individual mandate, then say it, and explain why it is detrimental.

My dislike for the current administration has everything todo with overreach of the government, stepping around the constitutional limits imposed on the presidency, blatant disregard of laws in place that he refuses to enforce, and a number of other issues.

RedDev, actually, one of the main reasons Obama beat out Hillary in the primaries was because he stated that he was against the individual mandate. The first focus of Obama's presidency - after bringing the troops home (his stated "first priority"), should have been job creation. The majority of people in this country get health insurance coverage from their jobs. If you get more people working, you then have more people covered AND paying in income taxes to then cover the costs of the healtcare program. At that point, the republicans don't have much of a leg to stand on to argue about. Simply put, he had his priorities in the wrong order, and it's screwed him for the rest of his term. This has nothing to do with his ambitions or intelligence, but rather his inexperience. Of course, this is just one small part of his presidency; the continuation of the Patriot Act and the expansions thereof are horrendous and every person through the Obama presidency and prior (yes, Bush too) should be condemned for their participation.

This isn't to say Romney is any prize. He's bought and paid for by big business and as such clearly isn't going to be a president with the fortitude and integrity to act in the best of the nation if it opposes that group.I don't have any issue with him being wealthy or having wealthy friends, but I do take issue with placing ANY group above the good of the nation. While I won't pass judgement on if he has "good" business sense, he does have real world experience in business, which is in his favor. However, this whole appealing to the "Christian" values is beyond disturbing. Most religions have a set of values, and to be honest, most are pretty similar - don't steal, don't kill people, live a good life and be a nice person. As someone who is not Christian, catering to that group - or any group that can be taken to extremes, frankly scares the crap out of me.

As I look at the 2 main contenders I'm asking the same thing I asked last election: with the population we have in this country, is this REALLY the best we have to offer??

Eisenhower wouldn't stand a chance in today's GOP. He considered himself to be a fiscal conservative and a social liberal (liberal in the context of the day, of course). The Interstate Highway System, perhaps the greatest of our infrastructure projects, would never be approved in the current political climate, where big ideas are greeted with suspicion instead of the traditional American "can do" attitude.

The point is best illustrated by the ban on Sharia law in Kansas being supported, while they are trying to push policies that entrench their religious values as law (banning abortion, DOMA, removal of contraception from health plans). That is doing nothing other than entrenching the christian version of Sharia law, but of course that is fine for these people because it isn't Muslim law, it is Christian.

I take the bolded clause to mean that establishing laws based on the tenets of a faith is unconstitutional. To me, it is the freedom from religion that is most important, and was why the founding fathers added this to the constitution. If people want to have their faith and churches, may they find happiness and become better people through them, however, do not expect me to be forced to follow those dogmatic ideals through establishment of christian law, which takes away my freedoms.

Athiests who have no official "code" to my knowledge tend to follow the same general morals. Do we really NEED a religion in the office to tell us we have to live according to their stated methods? Is it necessary, when we were specifically not created as a "Christian nation", to have a candidate that promotes one religion over another? If they are a decent person, why should their faith have any relevance on the job?

I was raised Catholic, and went to a parochial school from K-7. in 3rd grade, i was stumping the nuns and priests that would come into class with my religious questions. By 6th grade, i'd been completely ostracized by my classmates, and was the constant subject of their jokes and criticisms due to my rebellious/nonconformist nature. When i proved to my parents that i was being held back in this environment at the end of 7th grade (in a large confrontation with the PE/Match teacher sports coach who made me do twice the work as other students because i told him his class was not advanced enough for me), i had the distinct pleasure of listening on the other line as the priest cussed out my mother for allowing me to go to public school (which allowed me to be taking college classes by my senior year). I've rarely heard such vileness from another human (until i started reading blogs such as this one...) as i did on that phone call, hearing this priest tell my mother that she was going to hell for this as well as depriving the parish of their most commonly used tool (me - was altar boy and did the majority of the readings/led singing for daily 8 am and noon masses), and that was when i decided that religion wasn't for me. i'm in tune with my own spirituality (and i live by many of the values that i learned as a young catholic), but will never consider myself a member of any religious group because i'm loathe to allow anyone that type of control over me or my family after seeing firsthand the kind of damage it can cause to a family unit. My mother always resented the way i forced their hand in removing me from parochial schools, and it wasn't until i had children of my own that she was eager to talk with me.

I did want to add that I agree with Tzalaran. I personally don't believe in any organized religion. They are all man made. Some worse than others.
