MILFORD, NH -- Presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney believes a long-term-solution is needed to fix America’s immigration problem, especially for young illegal immigrants -- but not the changes announced by President Barack Obama Friday afternoon.
“I think the action that the president took today makes it more difficult to reach that long-term solution, because an executive order is, of course, just a short term matter,” Romney told reporters outside his campaign bus following an ice cream social here.
Romney went on to say what the president did can be “reversed by subsequent presidents.” But when he was asked if he himself would overturn the changes -- if elected president -- Romney did not answer.
He also commended Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R) DREAM Act alternative, despite saying in April that he was still looking at Rubio’s proposal.
“I'd like to see legislation that deals with this issue, and I happen to agree with Marco Rubio as he considers this issue. He said that this is an important matter, we have to find a long-term solution. But the President's action makes reaching a long term solution more difficult,” Romney said.
"If I'm president," he concluded, "we'll do our very best to have that kind of long-term solution that provides certainty and clarity for the people who come into this country through no fault of their own by virtue of the actions of their parents."
These remarks by the former Massachusetts governor came nearly two hours after Obama announced that people younger than 30 who came to the United States before the age of 16, who pose no criminal or security threat, and who were successful students or served in the military could apply for a two-year deferral from deportation.
It also came months after Romney blasted Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the GOP presidential primary for supporting in-state college tuition for young illegal immigrants in Texas. And during the primaries, Romney said he would veto the DREAM Act.
Romney made no mention of Obama’s announcement during his campaign stop here nor when asked repeatedly by reporters on the ropeline. Only after Romney got on his campaign bus for some time while reporters gathered outside did he reemerge to give a brief statement.
*** UPDATE *** The Obama camp issued this response: “During the primaries, Gov. Romney called the DREAM Act a handout and said he would veto it. His ‘solution’ to our immigration challenges was self-deportation. Today he continues to refuse to express support for legislation that lets children who were brought to the U.S. and want to contribute by pursuing higher education or serve in the military stay in America. The president remains committed to passing the DREAM Act, which was drafted with bipartisan support, but he won’t sit back and allow these children to get deported in the face of inaction. Congressional Republicans must end their continued obstruction to allow us to achieve the ultimate goal of signing the DREAM Act into law.”

Caught flat-footed again:
Can't wait to see this guy in the debates - he won't get to use a (staff) 'lifeline.'
In a video on May 9th, Romney said he was "still deciding on Immigration".
No matter what he says after the President made his announcement today:
Mr. Romney said affirmatively ON VIDEO that he was UNDECIDED ON IMMIGRATION just over a month ago.
It's GOP lawmakers who have stopped this 'long term' solution. A bipartisan bill has long stalled because of Pee Potty opposition, enhancing their credibility as 'pigots' (piggish bigots).
Backhouse, I'll allow that Romney may be "evolving" his immigration stance, but the truth is, he's trying to keep as low policy profile as possible with the hope he can just run out the clock. You gotta wonder why reporters aren't interrupting his speeches like they did to the President today. Romney's they one lacking any kind of transparency.
Ursula, Running out the clock, yes. Will the media support that strategy, for the next x months?
Mitt ROMNEY IS UNDECIDED ON IMMIGRATION:

backhouse, do you REALLY want to go down the road of holding key figures accountable of what they are on record saying in the past and how they may be contradicting things they are on record for? Think carefully before you answer because Obama has an entire book practically of broken promises and apparent lies, based on what was said in the past. But if you want to go down that road, we can.
His view is evolving just like Obama on gay marriage.
Read Barack Obama's book, Senator Obama's book and hear those same ideas in everything the President says and does today. He is consistent now. He was consistent then.
Having an "evolving" viewpoint on an occasional issue is natural:
But Mitt Romney has trouble deciding and/or saying on every single issue, unless it is about increasing tax cuts for the wealthy, denying his own health care record and voting for the Ryan bill, or
Women, men, children, rural critical healthcare for millions: "Planned Parenthood - I will get rid of that". (Romney)
Health care reform: "I will kill it dead on Day One". (Romney)
"Let the auto industry die". Later, "I will take some credit for that". (Romney)
"Let the Housing Industry hit bottom." (Romney)
"I like firing people". Romney is very sure about things like that.
Mitt Romney has an on-video, recorded, and serious lying problem. Or his memory is so fantastically bad, that he should never be sent to the store without a grocery list pinned to his shirt.
Romney has a gaggle of reporters following this bus tour this weekend. Why are they there?
Just to watch or ask questions.
The news of the day was obama decision about young people who are illegal immigrants.
Romney could have answered, yes I support the criteria, or No I do not support this and here is why. My long term solution will include ....
Nope he cannot not even do that.
Romney, empty of any authentic response.
Hahaha, Romney took the bait.
STexan, that record would be;
-184 promises kept
-61 kept with compromises
-71 broken (largely through Republican obstructionism)
That would be 4.45 promises kept for every one broken...a pretty good ratio by anyone's reckoning. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/
Northstar,
As Mitt Romney says, "I do not want to answer that now."
I thought we were done with that, with the Tea party woman who went up against Harry Reid. Remember the reporters chasing her around, and she refusing to be interviewed the whole time she was running for office? Same with Palin.
Telling you, it's the GOP-er special treatment clause, a new bill that the Rs in the Senate actually voted on, instead of filibustering...
John B.
Maybe you've seen too - Rachel has done a few shows about Politifact making up their own facts with special interpretations, and seems they've made up a lot when it comes to President Obama.
Last time I looked, Factcheck's rendering on the President was way more on the "Promises Kept" side, and quite a while ago too.
I bet Romney has a 100 illegal Mexicans cutting his grass on all his mansions and 3 to operate his RV garage lift. That is an OK long term solution for him.......
I agree with Romney that this sort of short-term intervention helps no one. It just keeps kicking the same immigration can down the road to nowhere. The only way to deal with illegal immigration is to go after the employers. E-Verify works. Immigrants can't get a job, they leave. No deportations, no ID checks, no one's hassled, but they leave.
Ursula-
Nor will Obama be able to use a "teleprompter".
Did you notice how Obama didn't take any questions after...and he is the creator of this piece of garbage, and he would not answer any tough questions.
When the President - any President - makes a STATEMENT in the Rose Garden, It is just That.
A Press Conference where questions are asked, will usually be announced as such.
There are a lot of protocols at the White House, and the Press know ALL about it - otherwise it would be chaos every time.
The guy that repeatedly called out, looked ready for a photo-shop and was probably a set up. Like I said, it is the Special Treatment GOP at issue here. He should apologize now and not make the lie any BIGGER.
Romney: " Latino Corporations are people too my friends"...
GOP HAS REFUSED TO MOVE ON IMMIGRATION. They're the ones who have repeatedly 'kicked the can down the road',
Ever since before it was after, before it was before, it was after a bi-partisan issue. Meaning - since President Obama came into office.
GOP wanted things changed on the border etcetera, before they would act - and by golly all has been done in triplicate now. But they keep moving the goalposts and do not intend to do anything on Immigration.
Romney's answer was "self-deportation", which made us all gasp, as his father was born in Mexico.
(Don't expect Faux to tell you the facts...go to a different source.)
Backhouse,
I agree with you on the rudeness of the reporter, but if the President calls the press for a major policy change you do not think he should take questions on it? I do not think a free press is their just to report a statement but to find out the ramifications, such as what about the parents, or if they cannot find a job will they be eligible for federal or state aid, or what about the people they have worked for will they be punished, etc?
Still with the impotent defense of the teleprompter... Marky?
Here's a challenge I am postive you will run away from like a scolded dog...
PROVE to us when ANY Presidential candidate has EVER used a teleprompter during the debates?
If YOU weren't such a @!$%#ing lemming YOU might has some credibilty.... pal!
Lay off the NewsforDumbFux little buddy - it is rotting whatever brain CELL you might have left! ;o)
Totally awesome news today from President Obama! Romney is classless. Always was. Always will be. He hasn't a humane bone in his body.
Mark L - don't you know that the second you post the word "teleprompter" you are totally labeled as ridiculous? You do know that every President in modern time has used one, right? You do know your old buddy Romney uses one for every large event? (and large to Romney is 200 people).
You do know how foolish you will look when Romney can't get a thought to come together for the debates, right? You do know Obama will wipe the floor with Romney?
OMG - you just look foolish!
Feisty, Beverly and the rest of the group - I'm outta here to Cali soon. Will be back Wednesday but very busy. Hold down the fort and try not to let the mental midgets on the right get to ya!
Obama/Biden 2012
Dear Feisty: I needn't tell you this but I will anyway.
Just because GWB was a screw up, and Cheney was a screw up and R Reagan was a screw up, and the right wing media are screw ups, Republican supporters assume that President Obama MUST BE DOWN THEIR SOMEWHERE ON THEIR LEVEL.
It ain't so.
He is in no way, shape or form on their level. But their supporters are. They can't raise the bar. It's not who they are. They're haters. And Romney, as the NYT pointed out, is a liar. His whole campaign is one big lie. Yet his supporters and most of the media don't care.
My dear friend Pat - I cannot tell you how happy I am to see you! You have been in my thoughts & I hope every thing is well with you & your family!
When are you leaving on your trip to Russia again?
So big news today for all tax paying Americans. Â Barack Hussein Obama has decided to legalize "800,000 " (translation = 3+ Million) illegals by executive fiat (actually an affront and straight out lawless act but we can discuss that at another time).
Hmmm,Â
How do you suppose today's news will go over with the average American Taxpayer? Â Allow me to share my opinion of today's slick vote buying maneuver by a now confirmed enemy of the this great nation, Barack Hussein Obama.
As a 46 year old health care administrator living in one of the top ten largest cities in Massachusetts I have first hand experience working in a racially diverse area where people struggle. Â Where Americans struggle. Â Where illegals struggle. Â Contrary to the moonbats insistence I do not hate minorities. Â I live in a minority populous city and oversee a very diverse work force of 150 employees.
What troubles me is this nation remains at the edge of collapse and with decisions like this we just take giant steps right into the abyss. Â Millions of Americans unemployed or underemployed, Â record number of Americans relying on government assistance. Â And so many need our help. Â Even the most republicans of republicans understand that the less fortunate through not fault of their own need assistance, a hand up but not a hand out.
My girlfriend has a friend,  Elvira.  Elvira is to my best guess 68 - 70 years old.  She's married to a retired fire fighter who is aging more rapidly than she.  They have a son who lives locally and also is a fire fighter.  Her daughter is married with a family and lives out in some northwestern state.  I guess you could say they are all middle class folks.  They struggle as many Americans do under the Obama Economy. Â
Elvira, retired is a gardener.  Not your average gardner.  She runs a club and maintains not only her property immaculately but donates considerable time   with her garden club beautifying an otherwise dirty, trashy, dusty littered city landscape.
Aside from that Elvira works at a local food bank. Â Yet Elvira's once self rewarding activity has been besmirched over the past few years. Â You see the food bank is just next to the Post Office. Â Well, if you haven't surmised what bothers and saddens Elvira is that countless people in these tough times through the week come and box up can goods, and other stapples and walk them straight to the post office and ship them to Haiti or Cape Verde or whatever their homeland maybe.
Sad who can, wouldn't be  sympathetic to their situation.  But at what price to the American citizenry.  Conversely, we have stories of millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars being defrauded by illegals aliens whether as in my state with drug sales and money laundering through EBT cards, foods stamps, insurance fraud, and disability insurance/Medicaid fraud.  I suppose those stories are just as disconcerting to lefties or I hope to think so.
Far too many Americans are suffering right now.  Why oh hell why would a President with our fragile economic condition decide to invite mass border jumping.  You all know that is precisely what he did today.  I'm sure just as an unintended side effect.  His primary goal was of course to strengthen his Hispanic  voting bloc. Â
So now these new "citizens" will not just "create and run" businesses as Obama says.  But quite the contrary the vast majority of these new "citizens" will have legal access to taxpayer funded health insurance, welfare benefits, unemployment benefit, disability benefits, food stamps, housing assistance, cell phones, etc, etc, etc. Â
So understand tax paying American Obama's right thing to you just cost you a substantial price. Â We are talking a lot of money to fund these new citizens. Â This nation has a job crisis! Â Now every tax payer will have more competition for those few jobs that get created under the new normal that is the Barack Hussein Obama Economy.Â
Now Barack? Â Right Now? Â This is the time to do this? Â Americans are struggling Obama. Â Good hearted people like Elvira have had it. Â Good people like Elvira, great Americans like Elvira deserve the country they have always known and loved. Â Not the socialist false paradise of your misguided mind.
Sir, I stand with Elvira and the millions of Americans like us. Â
You have no idea how many Elvira's are out there. Â
Come November you will find out. Â The pestilence of progressivism will be eradicated.Â
Romney/Rubio 2012
Willard's solution is to start a trade war with China, which results in American jobs getting shipped to Mexico instead of China.
Feisty,
I have no problem with the President's position on this though I do have some problems with it being done by executive order but do you think he thought about the ramifications? Given that youth unemployment is at around 40% if these people cannot find a job should they receive government assistance and if not what do we do about them, or if they cannot afford college should they receive grants? What about the parents who came here knowingly illegally, should they be punished? What about their medical care, should that be taken care of by the state? This can go on and on but their were no answers given.
Feisty, planning my trip to Russia has helped tremendously. It's what works for me. It always has. Not sports. Not politics. Central and Eastern European history for some reason.
The trip is in exactly two months. I keep thinking - okay - I can't read another book about that country, yet I can't seem to stop. They have such a fascinating history. The most compelling history of all the people of this our planet.
For anyone who is curious about Russia:
Michael Phillips/Judith Pella: Russia - the Motherland - who are these people we call "Russians?"
Their history is long. And from out of that history emerge the beginnings of answers to such questions that we - on both sides of the borders long separating East From West - of the 20th Century now find ourselves asking. The people were a a great variety of Slavic tribes and clans migrating northward out of the ashes of the fallen Roman empire. The place of this history was the steppes, the plains and especially northern forests between the Black and Baltic Seas - that no-man's land. In the centuries after Rome's collapse, the Slavs came northward and eastward from the Carpathians and gradually peopled and subdued this great land, and made it their home.
The diversity of the land presented these early Slavic tribes with very different challenges in the livelihood of survival. In the south, they traipsed across vast plains, or steppes, where the earth was fertile but where not a tree was visible for miles. In the north they encountered forests so thick and unending that the soil, if it could be found at all, could scarcely ope to produce crops for lack of sunlight.
The Slavs therefore became both farmers and foresters. In the south the land was tame, its surrounding inhabitants were not. The Slavs had to compete for land with the Huns and Avars, the Celtcs and later the Mongol Horde from China and Mongolia. The lack of natural barriers exposed them to threats of invasion wherever they turned, imbedding into the consciousness of these pre-Russian peoples a wary and apprehensive eye toward their neighbors in all directions. It would grow over the centures into an obsession which would dominate the future history of their descendants.

I'm learning about their war with the Ottoman Empire and the Russo-Japanese War and so on and so on. Russia is not just about Stalin and Lenin and the "commies", even though the trip will be mainly learning about their revolution and the places important back then. And of course, WWII which is why I added Stalingrad at the tail end of the trip.
I saw the other day where there were huge protests in Moscow against Putin and I was thrilled to see it. I think I'm going to like the Russian people. I was trying to fit in the Ukraine but it's impossible to do at this time.
I have a feeling that it's going to be a take my breath away kind of trip.
I do wonder if we'll see Keith back soon. Just like Clara Bow, he has "it" and we all miss him terribly here in the Boston area.
Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is a class act. I will be front and center for the general election, right beside you and all the other fabulous Democrats here. I wouldn't miss it for the world.
Oh, in light of today's crime committed by Obama I make two suggestions. One is to congress, the second to the American worker and tax payer./p>
1). Congress, although I have never requested a tax increase of any kind please draft and pass an immediate 200% tax increase on Western Union and other money wiring services immediately. When was the last time you sent a telegram? I can live with this increase. Can't you? I will say no more. I think you can figure out who will have to pony up for a change. Right?
2). Every US taxpayer, on Monday please walk down to your payroll department and request to change your dependants to 99. Can you imagine the message that will be send to Obama? Starve this treasonous bas$ard before its too late.
God Bless
News for Mittens:
We ALL want a long-term solution to the problems posed by illegal immigration. The basis of such a long-term solution is to enforce the immigrations laws that are already on the books - which neither party has deigned to do.
Beyond that, we need to devise a legal stance, on illegal AND legal immigration, which reflects the modern world - so that pregnant foreigners (many of whom are not even immigrants, actually) cannot come here for the week, and suddenly give birth to an "American citizen".
With regard to immigration issues, the combination of non-enforcement and of political cowardice simply makes the situation worse.
And so, Mittens, we now know what you "want"; the question is "What are you going to DO about it?".
(And when are you going to stop dodging your U.S. taxes?)
I admire Obama for taking a stand. However, He lost my support when he didn't keep his promise to end the lobbyist game. I will not place a vote for Romney, and this recent development with Obama pretty much secures that I will not place a vote for him either. What to do, what to do? I will write in Ron Paul. I don't agree with everything he does, but at least he stands for the citizens of this country.
Haven't young Mexican ILLEGAL immigrants taken away enough black jobs already?
Stereo typing yes, but consider this:
Thirty eight years I spent in the residential construction remodeling business. In the beginning concrete, roofing, sheet rock and bricks were always performed by black men. Black men could usually be found as helpers with other trades.
As ILLEGAL immigrants appeared, the honest hardworking black man was displaced by cheaper ILLEGAL labor. His kids grew into hopelessly unemployed thugs.
One would think a black president would want to do something to help the unemployed black man.
Explain how this helps the unemployed black man
I agree with Mitt Romney on what ever it was that he said was his solution that he was looking at from some other guy that wrote up a plan that he isn't sure if he likes yet. He will get back to you on immigration right after he checks with his corporate masters that are funding his campaign long after he gets elected and decides if he needs any slave labor help on his estate.
Backhoser -
Like same sex marriage ... Like how Obama was against same sex marriage before he ran for state senator and realized he needed to "evolve" to pro-same sex marriage in an effort to capture the liberal Hyde Park vote .... which was before he ran for the US Senate and realized he needed to "evolve" to anti-same sex marriage to appeal to a broader base .... which was before he "evolved" to pro-same sex marriage when his poll numbers sucked and he needed the GLBT big money for this election?
Obama is one principled, "evolvong" mo fo, huh?
Speaking of principles and ethical standards and with respect to the actual article, didn't Obama promise the Latino vote that he would pass the Dream Act ... had a full, packed majority in both houses for 2 years and never brought it up .... then told the Latino vote that he was he sorry, he just couldn't help them now because of the Constitution - that he couldn't change law by himself .... and now just changed the law by himself when he gets desperate and starts panicking over Rubio and the polls?
Thanks Backhoser for providing the opportunity to point out what a unprinicpled, self-serving, hypocritical political pos this guy really is.
News That Changed Her Life In An Instant
Maria Lazcano, 18, was washing dishes in her parents’ Fort Pierce home early Friday when she heard a news report emanating from the television in the living room that changed her life.
“I ran out of the kitchen to listen with my hands still full of soap,’ she said. “Oh my God, I was so, so happy when I heard that. This is incredible.”
Lazcano arrived in the U.S. illegally with her Mexican parents when she seven. She studied in local schools and graduated with honors last year from Fort Pierce Central High School. She said she won a full tuition scholarship to Indian River State College for two years and University of Florida for two more years but couldn’t use those grants because she had no Social Security number.
Her work permit will give her that number and the scholarship, she said. She wants to study education and says she may go on to law school, although that may depend on what happens with the Dream Act down the road.
Palm Beach Post
America.
I had to call a MA agency yesterday to ask a simple question. The paperwork we had received from them was incorrect and I was just attempting to get the correct info from the woman on the telephone.
In all my jobs throughout the years, this woman I spoke to could have easily been the most unhelpful disrespectful person I have ever had the displeasure of speaking to on the telephone in my life.
Do you want to know what my co-worker asked me when I got off the phone after she heard my end of the conversation? Did the person you spoke to have an accent? That truly ticked me off when she asked that.
So I answered her honestly and said yes, as a matter of fact she did have an accent. She sounded like she was from southie and I walked away.
Why does she woman have this job that requires assisting others? I was nothing but calm and polite. She was brutal. I'm not one to complain to one's boss about employee behavior, but I came oh so close to raising hell over her manner on the telephone.
I am thrilled for these kids who want nothing more than to get a good education here in America and have a bright future. And with President Obama's help, with all our help, they will.
Why stop at those who are already here. If Obama and the Democrats want to give illegals, er 'scuse me undocumented aliens a free ride on the backs of the rest of us, then why don't we just go for the ultimate dream Act. Free visas and documentation for anyone with no criminal record who wants to come to the USA. If they can get on a plane or ship, just come on over. Geographic proximity to the US border would no longer be an advantage and we'd get broad representation from all regions of the world. Just the diversity alone would make it worthwhile! I'm sure that there would be lots of bright young people included as well. C'mon Obama, don't stop at these half-hearted measures. Go for immigration gold!
Our neighbors walk up to our property line and what do we do? Simple math. A rightous and simple act of caring. It applys also to our immagration. Always has and always should. Save a lot of ignorant turmoil, accept your neighbor with a whole heart and end the freaking unhonorable controversy once and for all. The positives outway the negatives virtually EVERY TIME!
I would vote for satan if he would deport all illegals and prevent them from ever becoming legal.
Once again Romney has no solution. Does he ever for anything?
I suspect that Romney's, "long-term solution," is indebted servitude.
lol!
Probably accurate rradiko....
As long as they start paying taxes and use their social security number its a win win deal. Even though this rule temporarily applies to a small percentage already here it has broad implications throughout the Latino base.
Potentially effecting:
1. They pay taxes back into the system.
2. They start demanding better wages upsetting and re-balancing our "cheap labor" problem we've been dealing with.
3. filling the gap of missing highly educated professionals in our country.
4. As much as i hate to say this.. The only true American Nationals are the Indians, the rest of us have immigrated as some point, as close as only 2 generations ago. Get over yourselves, this is the land of opportunity and we're not alone on this planet.
5. Easier to track, find and punish welfare abuse with documented and traceable citizens. You know most of them are already collecting benefits of one form or another, at least now we have another tool to sort out the fraud, a social security number.
I mean they are already here and probably half are collecting benefits without paying back into the system. Are you going to hunt each one down and kick them out? Oi, impossible. Might as well work on assimilation to get them on the taxpayer roles.
The hardline immigration stance should have been dealt with 20-30 years ago. Its sad to say this but its too late now. Deal with it, stop the major flow across the border and move on. As a civilized nation don't we have better things to worry about?
Yesterday i wasnt so sure of this choice Obama made. After sleeping on it i can see some of the wisdom in the choice. I can't say i would do any different if i was President either. Seems like a win win.
Tthankfully there is a candidate who is thoughtful. There is no such thing as an expert, for that would preclude anything new under the sun. Talk to people that have proven to be trustworthy to bounce ideas and concepts. A true executive knows what he does not know, and does not pretend to know all like Obama, who has made a series of mistake but refuses to ackowledge them.
I think Romney's problem with his CONSTANT flip-flopping , which really is not normal behavior even for a politician, may actually be signs of another underlying problem.
That being early onset of dementia, which can happen to people very early in life. Romney, I believe may be in his early sixties. People with early stage of dementia really can not remember certain statements or actions, but may remember other things perfectly well. It's not just an all or nothing type of memory loss.
When you hear Romney answer a question, it looks as if he truly believes what he is saying, even though it may contradict another statement he made just a week earlier. With early onset of dementia, that is plausible. He may actually remember that he made a statement earlier on a subject, but not remember what he said - so he comes up with another statement.
Watch him carefully next time you see him on TV, there's something going on there that's just not "normal" behavior.
Bob1136191 -
Bob - sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday - wrapping up business before I leave town. But, insane Bob, I wanted to make sure you get your name.
One of the First Service Members to Die In Iraq: Lance Cpl. Gutierrez
Lance Cpl. Jose Gutierrez, an Immigrant From Guatemala, Was Killed In a Tank Battle In Iraq in March 2003. According to CBS News, “The heroism and sacrifice of non-citizens was barely known — until Lance Cpl. Jose Gutierrez died in battle in Iraq. He came from Guatemala, and he came to the United States illegally. We can tell you how his story ended. He was killed in a tank battle in southern Iraq on March 21 [2003].” [CBS News, 8/20/03]
Gutierrez Was Granted Citizenship Posthumously. According to CBS News, “No death of any soldier goes un-mourned. But the death of a man who died for a country that was not his — that proved especially poignant to many Americans, including President Bush who visited two wounded non-citizen soldiers and made them citizens on the spot. Jose was also granted American citizenship posthumously, and that’s also when he became a hero. A cardinal officiated at a memorial service in a Los Angeles suburb, where many poor people, including Latinos, attended.” [CBS News, 8/20/03]
We have others serving our country who manage to get into the military even though here illegally. My guess is the soldiers they serve beside don't really give a damn about their legality - just that they have their backs.
The person who is tarnishing our military through racist remarks is you. You should be ashamed but you probably won't understand that. You have no intelligence, no integrity and no honor. Luckily for us, all of our military have the characteristics you lack.
Sorry this is on a different site than Bob first attacked me on. I wanted to make sure he knows that he shouldn't be so callous about people who serve in our military - citizens or not.
I'm reading now, that Sen. Rubio has decided to withdraw his bill on the Dream Act, which was very similar to what the President has offered.
This is classic TP/GOP they are for something until the President is for it and then they're against it.
This would have been the perfect time for Sen. Rubio and Mitt Romney to show some leadership and some courage and do the right thing, show they want to help solve this enormous problem and are willing to work with the President on this and other vexing problems, instead they punted. Cowards.
Actions speak louder than words, words are cheap.
Hi GM - you've been missed! Could not agree more.
Sitting at O'Hare before trip to Cali. Hold down the fort and don't let the mental midgets on the far right get to ya! (Like Rob in Mass! Do you think he came with a brain or was missing it from the start!)
Have a great one!

Here's the rundown on Mitt Romney's devastating record as CEO of Bain Capital, a tenure marked by bankruptcies, bailouts, and mass layoffs — all while Romney and his partners raked in Billions of Dollars in profits for the firm and Romney himself amassed a Quarter-Billion Dollar Fortune.
Romney's Bain Capital Caused Mass Layoffs, Sent Jobs Overseas
Thousands of Americans were laid off by Bain Capital at companies it purchased, managed, and, at least a quarter of the time, drove into bankruptcy, ruining Lives, Destroying Careers and Families including Many Many Suicides While stuffing his pockets, Keeping his Darling son OUT of service to his country with the line "My son is Fulfilling his Patriotic Duty by helping me get elected"...Got that one?? and, Of Course, installing the InHouse car elevator for his "darling little boy's $180,000Ferrari....Listen Up People...This guy IS Count Dracula In carnate. A vote for ANY Republican politico is a vote against Yours and YOUR FAMILY'S Well Being. You can take that to the bank.
Fewer people have crossed our border under Obama than any recent president. He has beefed up the border. Because he has enfoced laws and because of the economy some from South of the USA have moved back. They want jobs, they want a decent life, something they don't think they have in their native country, kind of like my ancestors who were not happy with conditions in Europe a century or so ago. While not enough has been done Obama has done more than any other president to keep "them" on their side of the border and deport "them" who don't measure up. By the way they don't get free medical any more than anyone else who may or may not be a US citizen without insurance.
Bored of Stupid - and you'll get your chance to do just than when Romney runs in November. However, those of us who value the country will be voting again for President Obama.
Obama/Biden 2012
Seeking, thank you and have a safe trip, you will be missed.
So you support Obama's move, then? Bring the cheaper ILLEGAL labor out of the shadows so that they can charge a competitive rate, feed their families better and take care of their kids so that they do not become hopelessly unemployed thugs?
Or are you so mired in your hatred that you are unable to support something that helps everyone?
Mr. Romney has no solid solutions for anything. Romney is desperate and it shows big.
Par for the course for Mittens. HE HAS A PLAN! He's just not telling until after the election.
What a Clown.
“I think the action that the president took today makes it more difficult to reach that long-term solution, because an executive order is, of course, just a short term matter,” Romney told reporters.
Perhaps if the Republicans would make an honest, good-faith effort on solving the immigration situation, an executive order wouldn't be necessary. At least President Obama is doing something besides posing, prevaricating, posturing, postponing, and ultimately punting on the issue, which is apparently the "long-term solution" the Republicans prefer.
The parents are guilty of HUMAN TRAFFICKING, no excuses!
If the child is Mexican, MEXICO must be made to pay for care and feeding. NO EXCUSES!
Strange words from a man who is essentially an "anchor baby" of illegal immigrants given amnesty.
Mitt Romney says in this article that he wants long term solution for immigration; however, he already rejected long term solution, which is the Dream Act that Republicans leaders filibuster in 2010, don't you think?
Byron Raum.....
There is nothing in the comment you quote ( 1.32 )indicating hatred.
There is a question of how this action by this black president helps the unemployed black man.
Libs typically avoid fair questions and point accusatory fingers of hate
Problem not solved
This is very concerning..... how did Maria Lazcano, the undocumented immigrant mentioned from a post above was able to attend public school, funded by tax payer dollars, graduate from public high school, again funded by tax payer dollars, without a social security number.
When my children started school, they needed SSN, medical records of immunization and vaccinations. Same requirement with children of our immigrant friends who have had schooling from other countries. They cannot be enrolled without those info.
That is an issue in that school district that needs to be looked at. Mr. Romney's idea of self-deportation could work if everyone is onboard on implementing measures to check illegal immigration.
No it isn't, OFG. It's a classic wedge issue strategy, trying to divide two traditionally Democratic constituencies by trying to convince black that their lack of opportunity is the fault of Latinos. It's an attempt to get the "little people" fighting among themselves, diverting attention to the fact that the wealthy elite's share of both wealth and income have more than doubled over the last few decades, a change that's taken place entirely at the expense of the middle class. If that doesn't express at least contempt for the groups you're trying to divide I don't know what would.
A long-term solution, or a "final" solution?
WOW old fat guy....
Just WOW!
(sadly shaking head.)
WW
Quit trying to change the subject
How does this help the black man?
The sad fact is it does not. This is an attempt to shore up the Hispanic vote while the black vote continues to be taken for granted.
The black man is left on the democrat plantation of poverty by a black president
Just so I'm clear....
Everything you are saying is in regard to "black men" and "Hispanic men" correct?
I say again, WOW!
Actually it kinda sounds to me like you are concerned about how our "black president" intends to treat old fat guys and white men.....
jist sayin'
Sounds to me like he might actually be concerned with the higher rate of unemployment among African Americans. How does adding 800,000-1,200,000 "legal" workers to the workforce reduce unemployment among the African American community? I think it is a fair question.
We need to add about 120,000 jobs a month to keep up with population growth and maintain current levels of unemployment. Adding the newly "legalized" workers means we will need an additional 80,000 jobs a month, just to keep unemployment steady.
I somehow doubt we are going to see job creation numbers in the realm of 200,000 a month when they have recently been below 100,000. Where are all these workers going to find employment in Obama's economy? Are these newfound "legal" workers going to drive the unemployment among citizen minorities even higher?
Those people are already here...they do not effect the numbers needed to move the unemployment dial. Weaseling the numbers doesn't change that.
Speaking of weasel numbers, let's assume for a moment that your assumptions were correct. How would increasing the population of the US by 0.33% increase the required number of new jobs by 66%?
If you use that funny TEA/RNC counting it is easy....
Those of little faith, you know, the ones who are actually UPSET that America is moving in the right direction under President Obama; that he has reversed the 800,000 per MONTH job loss of Dumbya to steady increases over the past 27 months. Those same RWNJ ones who dislike the high numbers of the Dow, the fact that Americans now have affordable healthcare and the other domestic successes President Obama has accomplished IN THE FACE OF UTTER GOP/TEA OBSTRUCTION and refusal to do anything for the benefit of America if it comes from Obama....
Considering all the roadblocks and attempts to stop our President that the right wingnuts have tried over the past three years, and Obama has still gotten so much done, it has to be very scary for them; they must realize that their guy really does NOT have any chance this November because President Obama continues to move this nation forward and clean up the previous administration's messes, AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO STOP HIM no matter how hard they continue to try and no matter how much they harm America.
Obama/Biden 2012!
Yo stupid...
Twist numbers anyway you wish, blame Bush , I get that. This is simply a vote buying trick and the black man continues to suffer.
By the way losing 800,000 jobs a month could not go on forever no matter who is in charge.
Ramen: A wet limp noodle.
Ramenie: Possessing the characteristics of Ramen.
My new pet name for the little dear.
Now answer the question Mr. Ramenie. What were you last told your opinions were?
Hey, look at that...ofg dismisses any suggested the suggestion that fixing the Republican's messed up economy is of significance, then dismisses the suggestion that it was even necessary...
...showing that it's of importance to him, too.
Yeah, right....
We remember the non-equivical statment Willard made:
"Let them go bankrupt..."
Sure glad HE hasn't been in charge and practicing that philosophy! We'd better ALL be thankful Obama has been in the White House instead - even YOU OFG. Try to open your eyes... and get away from that FOX news channel.
So Romney said he wants "a long term solution", but presented no details or even broadly-drawn principles of what that should be.
Go figure.
Precisely JohnB!
Who was it that said yesterday, talk is cheap?
This is nothing more than lip service out of Willard!
PS: Nice to see Team Obama continuing on the offensive! Sooner or later, the voters are going to start to demand specifics from Willard!
Talk is cheap Willard....Actions speak louder than words......
Thanks Willard, so can we talk about your actions at Massachusetts, at Bain, your tax filings and of course your off-shore accounts?
Let's talk about actions!
The President today announced a controversial policy but then refused to take questions after his speech and you do not have a problem with that.
President Obama did a better job of explaining Romney's plans. Romney knows if voters really knew his plans, they won't vote for him.
Here is Romneys solution. He has illegals working in his house for pennies. Bling! There you go.
Romney doesn't have a solution because he wants to re-hire his slave labor force after he gets elected.
"This is not amnesty, this is not immunity, this is not a path to citizenship"-President Obama. It's a cynical two year reprieve that Barry hopes will help him score points with his base in a desperate campaign.
Hey John,
As opposed to a a guy that actually is the president, who promised the DREAM Act yet failed to bother to even bring it up the first 2 years of his administration when he had big majorities in both houses, who stated when specifically asked about this issue ....
Then Obama, apparently out of nowhere, decides to ignore all those laws he referenced, usurp those" congressional mandates" he stipulated and intentionally violate the very role of President he cited with the exact method he stated he could not legally use.
Obama actually does everything wrong from pandering for votes, to ignoring the issue once in office, to usurping the Constitution as he defined, to violating the role of the President as even Obama judged ... And you guys criticize Romney.
Obama talks about doing the "right thing."
The right thing to do is to take the original DREAM Act, which was flawed legislation that would never pass as it existed, amend / alter / compromise on key issues in an effort to get enough Repub support for it to pass - and pass it as the Constitution provides.
The funny thing is that this was on the verge of happening, alternative / compromised on legislation that Republicans were accepting .... legislation that was being pushed and worked out by Senator .... Marco Rubio.
According to the Washington Post, White House advisors Celina Munoz and Valarie Jarrett actively tried to derail it citing that ....
(Valarie Jarrett trying to tell Repubs that they won't support the rising star in the party and preferred VP candidate?)
So, who is it that really doesn't have a viable plan yet, John?
And oh my, was Obama's out of nowhere move today out of nowhere .... or was he about to be trumped by his opposition and did the only thing he could to obstruct the real "right thing", simply because it wasn't his achievement?
Yea, John "Go figure" that one out.
Mitt the Barber = Lots of talk about he would not have done and things he would like to do.
Obama = Lots of things he has done that are constantly criticized by Mitt.
"A kibitzer is a non-participant who hangs around a game, offering (often unwanted) advice or commentary. " Wikipedia.
Mitt is the classic kibitzer. Plenty of talk, no action. If he really wanted to be held accountable for his advise, why doesn't he push his teapublicans to move his agenda forward in Congress?
For those who didn't bother to read the earlier post of GCooper (well done by the way) this is a win-win for everyone. Those who have been working here - illegally - will now be paying taxes into the system. There will be more money and no loss in jobs. The jobs the illegals did here are jobs no one else would take. Get over it.
People have complained over and over about people working and not paying taxes - now the taxes will be paid. And, don't kid yourself - many of those high income politicians have illegals on their payrolls!
Bob-1805084 - and interestingly enough, Rubio pulled his proposal and is now against it. Playing politics as usual with their heads in their a**es, that's the Republican way!
Obama/Biden 2012
bob-1805084 ... Nice twist Bob! Keep on trying Bob. I'll bet you can do the jerk also Bob..Sorry Bob, you did.
The only acceptable long term solution involves having the Army set up mine fields, razor wire, machine gun positions with overlapping fields of fire, artillery firebases, and attack helicopters with night vision equipment. They must perform their Constitutional duty to defend the nation from alien invaders. It has worked in Korea for 60 years, it can work on our border too.
Sure, and look at how that intense level of militarization has impoverished North Korea.
As for South Korea, it hasn't affected them as dramatically...but who's going to send us 28,000 soldiers at their expense to station along the Mexican border?
He seldom does!...He's always gotta get the answers from his advisors.....Willard has no core!
He is keeping this a secret from Obama and America. Much to treachorous to let out of the bag this early!
He had to wait to respond until his puppetmasters told him what to say.
Mitt is a clown and I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw a bus. You talk about him responding only after he talks to his puppetmasters. That's like the blind leading the blind. When I look at him. all I see is 100% phoniness. He can't answer questions becasue he has no answers, just like the rest of the GOP. Pure bullshi$$ers.
If that's what they're telling him to say, they're trying to sabotage him.
How the heck is an illegal alien serving in our military? Did they use false ID to enlist or is the US Army so disorganized that they've been infiltrated by people they're not aware of? Either way, something stinks on ice with that whole amnesty branch. Someone in this country illegally shouldn't be able to get a position in our military.
It may not worry Obama when Jose' Gonzales is pretending to be a citizen in the army but will he be so welcoming of Hasan ab Adeel does it? Let's see some equality in the letting-in of illegal border-crossers! If the illegal Latinos should be overlooked, so should the folks from Haiti, China and Afghanistan. Right?
My friend was an officer in Army reserve and already serving two tours in Iraq and Afganistan within less than 4 years. So with that said, US Army is need fresh recruit all the time to spread the burden of the war.
While I understand that this war is unnecessary, but we already spend so much (blood, money, energy) might as well end it on a good note. Illegal serving in the US Army is nothing new, back in the draft days, everyone who are the right age HAVE to serve or jail time.
Look at the bright sides, some of these illegals are far more patriotic than most of us who are eligible to serve but choose not to.
THX -
This act from Obama encompasses all who are in the country without papers. Regardless of where they came from.. So you will have orientals, Russians, Mexicans etc. We only talk about Mexicans so much because they are next door and it appears we can't secure our own borders. It would be interesting to see the amount of illegal immigration from the rest of the world to our country. I would make a wager that Mexicans hold the majority of ethnicity by a slim margin.
There is a long-term solution -- do nothing significant, let the demographics in Mexico solve the problem, and then declare victory due to whatever minor adjustments in border enforcement either party gets through. A large part of the problem has been that Mexico has more potential young workers than the Mexican economy can support due to a population surge. Mexico is now past the hump of that surge and in a handful of year the population growth and the economic growht are projected to be in balance eliminating the need to emigrate to get jobs.
Since neither party can acknowledge that the worst of the problem is now behind us and the rest will solve itself, we are in for about 5-10 years of sound and fury signifying nothing.
Does this mean that Obama's illegal aunt and illegal uncle can stay in the U.S. as well?
GTR5 - yes, but we'd all like you to leave, please!
GTR nest you will say Rubio is illegal....hhhmmmmmmmm
Obama's counter-action to the Rubio threat has backfired big time. Obama should fire his political strategist.
Riiight, Rubio the Cuban will bring all illegal immigrants to the Republican Party. President Obama is just being honest and trustworthy, keeping to positions he has always held--unlike Romney. The Teapublicans who think they are being paid to protest instead of governing on behalf of The People are the ones who should be fired.
GermanGem -- Being snarky is bad enough, but stupid snark we can do without.
honest and trustworthy? are you nuts? gitmo ring a bell there dear?
Hell German all the illegals were working in Romneys house for pennies until the press got wind..
They were employed by the landscaping company. When Romney found out, he changed landscapers. Spare me your leftist dramaqueen spin.
Romney doesn't have to say a word anymore. Obama pissed off a nation today. He's done.
Romney does not have to say anything. Between Obama's mouth, his lying staff, and his leaks, Valerie Jarrett calling the shots, his VP, and his spending on trips wife, golf, daughters on trips listed as senior staffers, dog having its' on jet, on and on and on he will self-destruct.
German,
If any of the posts on this web site is any indications ,indeed the anger, hysterical, inane rants was visible for all to see.
Obama made a sensible policy decision to provide a criteria for young illegal immigrants to continue their education, get a work permit for up to two years.
And the above reaction proves to all Americans that the GOP has exploded in a poof and Romney is speechless.
norhtstar, are you going to foot the healthcare bill and education tuition for all these illegals? what part of 'we can't afford it' don't you and the left understand? maybe you will all be happy when the U.S. is bankrupt. socialize medicine you say? bring it on. 7 medical doctors in my family, I won't wait 6-9 months for treatment, YOU will. ask canada how it works. their politicians come HERE for medical care.
This one is just as bad as Nobama just as evil. I see nothing good again. They are jobs out there and people are finding them but, a lot of them people are too lazy to get off there hind end and go look for them. Why keep the young illagle, They are the one's are more likly to get in trouble, Drugs, gangs,. I seen older people working 12 to 14 hours a day and week ends would you do it? Be honest, when its hot and humid and not working in no air conditoning. No and neither would he or Obama. They just want the stinking votes. Liars. You can fool some of the people not this one, Better get up pretty early, For years now they all have not won leagly. Starting from Clinton for real. People who complain about Medicare are the one's on it and burn it up. And people who worked all there life can't get jack crap watch the words you speak for they do hurt lots of people. The only ones that should be sent back are criminals
wa
GermanGem
Canada calling ... our healthcare system is great and we would never trade it in for yours. Let's guesstimate that there are 10,000 politicians (town-city-provincial-federal) up here. Please list all of them that have wandered down south seeking medical help.
I'll give you a long term solution. DON'T allow them in the country. No other country allowes illegals in and then pats them on their back and gives them loads of money, a new home, access to business loans, etc. Look at the laws on the books. If they don't come in leagally they don't come in. PERIOD. Once their found send them packing.
Debora-389330
I have been a permanent Canadian resident since 1957 and have visited the U.S. many times. A few years ago I accidentally overstayed my 90 day visa by 2 days ... the wonderful boys and girls of Homeland Security turned me over to I.C.E in handcuffs and leg irons. I am still waiting for that money and free house.
ps ... I have a zero criminal record.
ideologyspoilstheview, I'm sorry you were treated poorly when you had a visa to enter the country legally and then to be handcuffed!! WOW! that is enough to turn someone's stomach. I know there are many legal visitor and or immigrants who are treated badly and the ones who are entering illegally somehow very seldom seem to be found.
I know of a couple of times when people came to America; as legal immigrants, and they were given a home, money, free college and an opportunity to open a business with a preapproved loan. American's don't even get that!!
Deborah, I came to this country as a legal immigrant and am now an naturalized citizen. Tell me where I should look for all this free stuff you list??? I have worked very hard for everything I have and so has my family, no one has given me anything. I know plenty, like me, who also came here legally, and never heard about that free ride you write about. Do you have a link or a web page to substantiate your claims??
Gingerbread Mamma, All of the free stuff I talk about was going on as little as 5 years ago. A family of East Indians moved into the state I live in and they were given a home, school grants for the children and a loan for a business. I'm not sure where they got it I just know that is what they told us.
No one deserves a free ride. I've worked for 40 years now and still don't own my home outright. Working on the payments month by month but I'm 1/4 American Indian and I don't get a free ride, and no one else should either.
So your whole rant is based on "I heard that you can..."
Lets see Obama without a teleprompter. AH AH AHH AHHHH AH AH AHHHH
Obama State run media on the campaign trail. Keep up the good unbias reporting.
what the he!! is the big deal with the teleprompter? Virtually EVERYBODY uses them now-a-days, even the mayors
lord todd - you're absolutely right. What we learn when someone does the old teleprompter statement is how totally ignorant THAT person is!
Similar to the Etch-a-Sketch tired response. You can dish it out but when you get it in return your reply leads us to believe you have nothing substantial else to say.
Unlike Romney, whose campaign strategist stated they see the transition from primary to general as an "etch-a-sketch" moment, the "teleprompter" nonsense is something entirely from the messaging machine of the Conservative Movement.
See the difference?
Truly. A lot of stupid things come out of the Conservative B Movement, but the teleprompter nonsense is near the top of the list.
Obama trots out a new immigration policy, much like that put forth by Rubio, in hopes of pleasing the Hispanic voters. I believe it will backfire and he should remember Rubio is not running for President or even Vice President (yet). I personally doubt if Rubio would accept if offered.
Thats kind of the point. Rubio is not in a position to make such broad implicating policies. Obama however is in a position to take the best ideas from anyone in our country and make them stick.
Get off Rubios nuts, its the same schmeal with healthcare. Romney creates something damn near like it he gets praised, Obama sees it, expounds upon it and tries to make it national and all of a sudden hes throwing out the constitution. Pick a side of the street to stand on and stay there would ya lol.
Time to shake the Etch-a-Sketch again, Mitt.
Reid - Do you have any idea where the "Etch-a-Sketch" insult originated or are you just vomiting back left-wing slogans that some other idiot fed you? Here are the facts for those who actually care about the truth:
Romney's communications director Eric Fehrnstromon referred to the shift from a primary campaign to a presidential campaign by saying "I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It's almost like an Etch-A-Sketch" Of course, Romney's opponents immediately pretended the remark had some significance.
Contrast this with Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor and mentor for 20 years saying, “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color.”
Intelligent people will recognize that the "etch-sketch" comment is a cute analogy by one of Romney's campaign workers; while saying that AIDS is a means of genocide against Blacks. represents a core belief that Obama has absorbed.
So nice kannin that you know what the President's core beliefs are. And you had the nerve to lecture REid on the ETch a Sketch comment?
Obama's core beliefs are apparent partially because of his own 20-year attendance at Wright's church. The proof, though, is the fact that he brought his infant daughters to be exposed every week of their lives as they were growing up to sermons like this: "Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain't! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty." or this, "Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."
I think that children raised with a continuous diet of hate speech like that are doomed to a life of distrust and hatred. I feel sorry for them.
It didn't take a lot of nerve to lecture Reid on his etch-a-sketch comment, Sherry. I try to correct abysmal ignorance as often as time permits.
Kannin....I suppose God told you to do that?
You are like the rest of the TP/GOP full of pious baloney!!!
You are hung up on some weird stuff. And Bill Clinton hasn't been president for some time now.
Seriously, Jonathan-- personally, I'm tired of all these freaking politicians who can't answer a damn question. What would you do as president, Mitt? What's your solution? Would you overturn this ridiculous executive order? I want to know. And I'm equally tired of politicians who make their decisions simply to garner votes. Gee, Mr. President-- how coincidental and convenient that you would RIGHT NOW do this executive order to give these illegals some refuge. You wouldn't be pandering, now would you because your back is up against the economic ropes?
Slimeballs-- every one of 'em.
In a potentially close election, politicians will take steps to maximize turnout by their supporters. That's as true of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln as of Barack Obama. The difference between Obama and Romney is the Obama took action on immigration and gay rights while Romney tripped over his tongue and blathered. Also, since the Senate has become completely dysfunctional, an executive order is the only alternative to doing nothing. If Obama did nothing, you'd complain about that.
in the news now... Mitt is now pro-DREAM act again, after rebuking it and embracing it for the 7th time..... i swear to you if i ever make flipflops i will brand it Romney.
Complex issues such as immigration reform or gay marriage, that cross over into the rights of the states, will require complex, well thought-out solutions. Trying to respond, as Obama does, with simplistic answers based on his current political situation leads to chaos.
For example, Obama has changed his position on gay marriage whenever his political fortunes required him to do so. Running for the Illinois state senate he was for gay marriage. “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages,” he wrote in answer to a questionnaire back then. In 2004, he was running for the U.S. Senate and needed to appeal to voters statewide. So he said, “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.” Now in 2012, he is for it. To paraphrase John Kerry, he was for it before he was against it before he was for it again.
By contrast, Romney will respond with a cogent, workable long term solution when he is satisfied that all its consequences have been properly analyzed.
cogent? thanks for the laugh. The one difference here is that Obama always favored equal rights for gays, he never saw or treated them as 2nd class citizens with no rights. Romney said the Arizona immigration plan was a model for the nation. Doubt this makes much difference to any other than those illegals who came to this country as kids not even knowing they were illegal. My son has 1 such friend, the kid is awesome and i am thrilled for him. Obama already had the Latino vote...didn't really have much room to go up with that vote.
Yes Sherry, cogent! Intelligent planning is how Romney was able to take an organization that had been mismanaged into bankruptcy by leaders like Obama, and make it prosperous once again. His success rate has been nothing short of miraculous. And that is because he is capable of both thinking things out carefully when time permits, but responding quickly to changing situations when necessary.
au contraire sherry, obama lost some latino votes today. many of them followed the rules and came here LEGALLY and they are ticked. obama also lost a boatload of non-latino votes with his little announcement on immigration. I'm surprised the MSNBC website didn't crash there were so many anti-obama comments posted today. Obama took the Rubio bait, and what a mistake.
Senator Rubio will you advise Mitt-flip to resend the president order and do you support the president on this matter? I think his bid for or being considered ended 6/15/12. Can we say Fla Obama 12. I dont think Rubio wants to book passage on thr Titanic.
I.e., the right of conservative whites to control everyone else's lives.
When will the "miraculous" Willard Romney have time to carefully consider the issue of immigration, something that's been at or near the top of the American political discussion for the last couple of decades?
All I see is a Republican candidate who does whatever he can to avoid public scrutiny of his positions.
Since it is republican businesses that hire most or about all of the illegals, Mitt will take care of it by a contract with trucking companies to run from the border to the different illegal job locations, that will take care of all the republicans problems.
Can you show me the evidence in your statement or any link.
Walmart has been burned on hiring illegals and they knew it to do their night cleaning in some regions...do you think dems are the sleazy business owners? you repubs account for 99% of them!
How does this move by Obama affect construction labor unions??
Is the construction industry so full of extra work that they can hire all 800,000 illegals that Obama is giving a free pass to, and never affect any American union workers??
And the unions support Obama?? Why??
LULU...really you want to compare Obama's evolving on gay marriage with Romney on immigration? Obama always supported gays to have equal rights, equal benefits. Romney has run so far to the right on immigration it really is going to be difficult to walk it back. Well, for Romney maybe not, he can just do what he usually does...lie.
You should really put "evolving" in quotes. The term has become a current joke.
He will flip flop on it tomorrow when he hear's his private prison portfolio needs bodies to fill the cells. Mitt changes his mind as often as his johnson swings back and forth.
Flip-flopping on what? Believing that a long-term-solution is needed to fix America’s immigration problem? I doubt it.
BigBearCatBill - Don't you mean as often as his 'people' move his johnson from side to side for him?
He's so out of touch that he doesn't even do that by himself.
.
Yup. Standard hypocrite Republican and right wing answers here - Blame Obama for not solving a many decade old problem 'the right way' while never actually offering a real plan in to solve this in any of those same many decades... And actively avoiding providing any real solution while bitching that the other side isn't solving the problem.
And they say they are better at fixing the problems facing America.... WE know that they only thing they are better at is complaining about 'the other guy'.
I do not blame him but I also do not want a dictator. On this policy I am in favor but what about if a President bypasses Congress to do anything he wants.
We are supposed to be a system based upon checks and balances and with this move he got rid of that.
Since Tricky Dick Nixon days, they have perfected the "we make the problem and switch/pin the blame to the democrats." The college dropouts of sleaze lead the real thinking in their party - Rove, Limbaugh and Beck...all filthy rich and too dishonest to ever finish college, no university/college would grant degrees to such sleaze because they have ethics requirements. Not knocking those without degrees, just pointing out that the most powerful repubs in land have the least academic credentials, sad state and example for our children to be motivated for more than bad mouthing and cheating as a career.

Good God, man, turn off Fox. Obama didn't by pass anything. He merely announced a policy change to an already existing policy. There was no executive order passed, although I'm sure Fox is telling you there was, because it fits their agenda. Get some real news. No one's threatening your freedom, no, Pres. Obama is not trying to be a dictator. He's trying his best to govern a VERY diverse population.
Please tell me which existing policy allows the President to issue work visas to people in this country illegally?
Obama had to throw out something like some silly illegal immigration stance to get the focus off the economy. This was nothing but a politcal move.
Bummer that the country is a bit more complex than just the economy, isn't it?

Romney needs to read the CONSTITUTION!!!
The Constitution says that bills are passed in Congress for the President to sign or veto. That did not happen here, the President made his own law.
It's called the DREAM ACT, wake up, Oh that would not work either, sleep tight.
By the time Romney gets around to deciding on "his immigration policy", we will all be dead. Nanny Nanny Poo Poo, Romney is full of doggie poo....I could not resist. Romney needs to go back to Utah and figure out his "Immigration Policy"??????
If you were trying to sound like a child, you succeeded. Congrats.
My, my the republican party must be beside themselves. Advocating a mormon who's grandpa relocated to Mexico to avoid our polygamy laws and a Cuban anchor baby at the helm of our government. What a bitter pill to swallow. How far they have fallen:)
Isn't that what makes this country great. My Parents were not born here but came legally, while my wife was born in Colombia and together we built a life and a business that employs 18 people. In my office 14 people were not born here and only one is more than second generation.
But everybody here went through the legal channels and is that too much to ask for?
It is what makes our country great, and it is what makes these two a couple of the biggest hypocrits imaginable.
