I don't even remember the first campaign I "worked" on- yet, there are pictures of me, in my carriage, at LBJ headquarters.
The first campaign I put my own effort toward, rather than being taken by my parents, was Carter's. I knocked on doors, made phone calls, stuffed envelopes, and arranged rides to the polls- even though I was too young to vote.
Four years after that disaster of a president, I did the same thing- for Reagan.
In fact, I believe I have worked on every presidential campaign in my lifetime-its pretty sad that your only effort is to hurl names at those with opposing views, but only anonymously.

I was so flattered you asked for my input on Angus King's candidacy on the other thread!
I am probably being a very bad Democrat, but I plan to vote for King (INDEPENDENT) for Senate. Cynthia Dill is the Democratic challenger, and I agree with her on the issues, but I have to vote for former Governor King, because I respect him, he's highly qualified and popular across the state.
When I have seen King speaking to audiences, I have appreciated the way he has of addressing controversial issues that ratchets down the passion. I know that sounds funny, but I appreciate his neutral, analytic tone. Gov. King is adept at not engaging in ideological warfare. It's also something I like about Senator Mark Warner of Virginia.
I don't know who is donating to King, although he has a personal fortune from his private sector work developing alternative energy systems. King is known for bringing Apple laptop computers to schools in Maine, that was very controversial at the time, but has been wildly popular. Perhaps Apple is donating to his senatorial campaign, I wouldn't be surprised.

Unless you show me data that compares each city's statisic per 1000 (or equivalent), your number of dead in Chicago means NOTHING. Unless it's ok for you to compare Chicago to Boston to New York City to Omaha to Worcester.
The statistic I showed you is per 1000 so it doesn't matter if it's RI or TX.
Here comes the Etch-a-Sketch Express, wooohooo! Romney thinks he can bully his way into the White House by being the generic alternative, by being secretive (missing hard drives, missing tax returns, missing in action during the Vietnam War), and pulling the old Sharron Angle "strategery" of running away from reporters. This is a presidential election, not some state like Nevada.
Romney thinks he can just run out the clock? Well, he has gotten by so far with "I'll get back to you on that" BS. Even donors have noticed this, and are put off by it. Of course the debates--Romney must be soiling himself thinking about that. If he orchestrated some crisis to get out of the debates, that wouldn't surprise me.
But in the meantime, let's challenge the media to do their jobs and demand Romney's tax returns. According to David Cay Johnston, Romney's refusal to release his tax returns indicates that Romney has "been thinking about this since before Bain" but the American people deserve to learn:
Did Romney buy illegal, gray-market tax shelters?
Was Romney audited in a way that the government found serious problems?
Did Romney make use of offshore vehicles in order to defer or not pay taxes?
Did Romney take advantage of things that were not caught in audits by the IRS?
If Romney's returns are clean, if there's nothing to worry about, then why not just provide them?
Romney is NOT honest or trustworthy. Romney -- He's not in it for you.

Thank you for your information regarding former governor King. I want to apologize for not responding earlier.
It sounds as though King is very popular and has a strong following. I was simply unaware of his work there and surprised that an independent would be the front runner. Not there is anything wrong with that. A specific initial in front or behind a person's name doesn't make them better than another, but the party support usually helps to win elections.

In this case, the law would have been passed by one party (all Democrats since no Republicans voted for it) but struck down by justices nominated by the other (Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Kennedy all appointed by Republicans).

Romney's embrace of Ryan's drastic spending cuts and massive tax cuts to the apparently persecuted 1% may well cause a quick depression and collapse as government is drowned. On the other side, Obama's meek plan to tax the rich only and not address entitlements will lead to an eventual collapse as our debt burden becomes unbearable. Either way both men regardless of who wins will be obstructed and nothing will get done. Perhaps it is for the best perhaps it is for the worst but at least our fate will be decided by our own choice.

Put all the small things aside, the biggest issue is what will happen, outside of our control, when Europe collapses? What are the plans to mitigate or lessen the impact on the US when their latest bank bailout fails. Don't care to argue what caused it austerity cuts, lack of taxation collection etc. To me it seemed a hubris conceived idea to create a common currency an ultimate social state experiment doomed to fail. Righty responses that if Europe collapses Romney wins while truthful will not help him when the then Pres. elect Mitt takes over.
It appears we are doomed to fall off the cliff again and no one cares to talk about it or plan on ways to avert it. While the US will micromanage every military intervention possibility wheter it is an attack on Iran or Syria, I bet they have nothing, NOTHING, on the drawing boards for what happens when we are hit with another depression level event.

He was so busy blaming Obama for summer-blend gas prices, European bank failures, and frantically trying to remember where he stuck his carburetor pipe cleaners (follow the itch), he forgot his romantic promises of falling stock markets, unemployment spikes, and the general collapse of society.
Not to worry, 12/21/12 is still several months out .. Spanks still has plenty of time to wallow in the doom and gloom. Misery does have a way of seeking its own company.
I don't think anyone can definitively answer your question, Noid- but, one can infer, from the polling that shows that majorities oppose this legislation, that the reaction will not be all that good for Obama.
In fact, folks might look at the SCOTUS margin- if you are correct, and the vote is 5-4 to repeal- and conclude that an insurance justice needs to be appointed- to prevent legislation like this from being rammed through without the consent of the governed.
Might, actually, push a few fence sitters off that fence, and right into the Romney camp.
Obviously the European debt crisis was not caused by Obama but it will affect him and it could affect us all.

But you should care! How much should you care? Let's play a quick word-association game. When we say "Lehman Brothers," what do you say? Acceptable answers include: "Help!" "Holy crap!" and "Where is all of my money?"
So, to bring this back to Europe, those "Lehman Brothers" responses should give you a rough guide to how much you should care about Europe. Yes, it's just about that bad.
As you may have overheard somebody mention around the office, Europe is back in trouble again. Spanish 10-year bond yields hit a record high of nearly 6.7 percent today, according to data provider TradeWeb, despite a 100-billion-euro agreement over the weekend to bail out Spain's banks. Italian bond yields are surging, too, as investors start to worry it will be the next to need a bailout. A European Central Bank plan to solve the euro zone's long-term problems offered a temporary market salve, but the euro zone could be back in trouble as soon as this weekend, when Greeks vote in elections that could decide whether Greece stays in the euro zone.
We see you drifting off there, your eyes glazing over.
But really, this is not some esoteric thing you need to know about only because you may want to look smart at your next cocktail party or tractor pull. This is something you need to know about because it could be the next Lehman Brothers.

America is awesome and doesn't have to worry about European countries, which are tiny, with tiny little economies, a fraction of the size of ours. It's science, you'll say, science that says we shouldn't care a bit what happens to Greece or Spain or one of those other countries with good food, warm weather, attractive people and small economies.
But those tiny little countries are all mashed together into one big, unhappy marriage, sort of like another HBO show, "Big Love." Together, the 17 countries in the euro zone have the third-biggest economy in the entire world, just barely smaller than China's, according to International Monetary Fund measures.
And it's all interconnected, by trade and, more importantly, by banking. French and German banks lend money to Spanish and Italian banks, et cetera et cetera. Spain goes down, and you've suddenly got to start worrying about France. And Germany.
Again, blah blah blah, European words. How does this affect Americans?
Once you're worrying about France and Germany, you've got to start worrying about U.S. banks, too. They smartly dumped a lot of their Greek and Spanish and Italian debt a long time ago. But they still have a lot of debt of France and Germany and other supposedly "safe" European countries. And investors are just now getting around to questioning the creditworthiness of those countries, which will end up footing most of the bill if Europe needs to bail out big economies like Italy and Spain (again).
U.S. banks had about $500 billion in exposure to core European countries at the end of 2011, according to a recent Wells Fargo report, including about $200 billion in exposure to banks in those countries.
"The direct effects on the American banking system of a sovereign default in either Spain or Italy would be rather limited," the Wells Fargo economists wrote. "However, the European banking system would be severely affected by the default, and these shock waves would then be indirectly transmitted to the American banking system and economy.
"In sum," the Wells economists added, "a sovereign default and exit from EMU by either Spain or Italy could be another 'Lehman moment.'

R'money is screwed. Have people forgot how ridiculous he looked in the primary? Have we forgot the positions that he was forced to take. He was in a tough fight with Gingrich and Cain. He is the nominee by disqualification. You can't run the clock out if you are behind in the electoral college. He is a Mormon in a party whose largest constituents are born again (they quietly think he is in a cult). Debate time will be fun to watch.
Reading these post can be entertaining and sometimes informative. But when any candidate makes a statement that they will not answer questions unless they are on subjects they want to talk about or refuses to appear on multiple venues to answer questions I will not be voting for that person and that would include Obama if he took that stance. If anyone is willing to vote for Mitt Romney under these circumstances is a blind and ignorant fool. If you are running for an office such as President then you have an obligation to answer any and all questions put to you. If you do not want to answer those questions then I would suggest you not run for office. Voting for this person would be no better than putting on a blindfold and throwing a dart.
