A person in charge of the Department that enforces federal law against the rest of us has no right to refuse to answer if he wants to keep that job. This is not about Issa and it is not about Congress or the president. It is about an attorney general who presided over an operation that he himself admits was botched and ill conceived (and cost lives), and yet he has refused to answer questions or hold anyone accountable for it. Whether the attorney general likes it or not, the Congress of the United States does have the power to question him and ask him for information, and whether the AG of the US likes it or not, if this happens he is compelled to provide that information. He has basically refused. Congress is well within their rights to find him in contempt of Congress. This was brought on not by Congress, but by Holder's own unwillingness to be cooperative.

It matters not who the congress is or who the AG is. Congress is well within their rights here, regardless of the players.

Two helpful words of advice to the President and the Congress; ready for it?

Congress has been in the business of gathering contempt, not just that sort from anonymous campaign funders, but contempt from the voting public that has rained perennially on Congress. The public in good measure has said all that it can legally express towards Congress, who has made its career in showing its contempt for the electorate, yes that electorate who elected them as being 'representative' of what needs to be done, fully intending that be done as soon as possible.

The first order of Congress was to spew its contempt onto the public, those voters who voted their civic duty, but were surprised that they did not elect an individual representative of all the people, but in instead by involuntary substitution were found to have elected a political clone of the extremist party. The extremist party is not a gathering of concerned citizens but a black hearted mob. Yes the democracy we subscribed to has been penetrated by darken hearts, individuals have ever changing viral coats and identifying themselves as holiness self. It is extremist party infected by fear herds gullible, ill informed, who in darkness plots to for one party rule. This is the contempt has polished to transparency that Congress spews when it does it dirt deeds, and it the voting public that they have the most contempt for.

Then the heart of darkness has so infused the soul of the extremist party and sown discord and hatred across the plains, valleys and high mountain tops, it cannot not be long before the public can see the direction this hatred is taking the country.

But this time it is different Congress and funding sources, it is not interested in correcting a flawed system, but with deliberate focus aimed at killing the system one piece at time. Congress has not one intention to make clear what they do not themselves understand as they show so much contempt for the people they allege to serve. It clear the Congressional clones of the extremist party do not serve the voters but have like a mad dog infected with rabies snarls uncontrollable anger until there is nothing left but pieces.

The contempt of Congress is growing beyond the ability of words to express it, suppressing it either will cause it to explode, or as we seen in this ridiculous contempt allegation, will serve only one purpose "theirs". Congress has plenty of contempt, because they have been saving all the contempt sent in their direction, for years and years.

But ask yourself if the extremist party were the party of goodness, hope, faith and charity, would not the truth be shown readily. Why is the darkness all that we see down the road and across the future? That is if we look, but we are not looking, and not thinking, and not demanding proof of Congress intentions. There is certainty in the air; the contempt is the real truth, the party in Congress wants to eliminate Congress and all government functions and dammed the consequences. The government is the people it not some evil force of tyranny, so why the solution to embrace tyranny.

The Congress can easily vote for contempt, because we all know that those so outlandishly accused of wrong thinking, cannot defend against they have not comprehended. There is a fundamental disagreement with this comment, OneManVolt.

Jobs created in the public sector destroy growth since the pay and benefits are paid for by the taxpayer. This takes money out of the taxpayer's hands and shifts it to another person's hands. This is robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Jobs created in the private sector grow the economy. A net increase in private jobs is economic growth. A new wage is created, spending ensues (by the individual) and the tax revenues increase. This is hiring both Peter and Paul and allowing them to be self sufficient.

This is the fundamental difference between Republicans and Democrats. Let's look at it at the extremes. Let's assume we all work for the government, where does the money we get paid come from? Us! Pay taxes, get paid, pay taxes, get paid = this is net zero gain. So why not do away with all money since it is a net zero impact? This is communism at its core, by the way.

Leave it to Issa to make a mockery of Congress.

If contempt of Congress charges are being issued then I'm guilty too. This do nothing GOP Congress is only good at two things, political stunts and obstruction. Jim it does not state what they are asking for, just that it is a document. It also states that Holder has produced over 7 thousand pages of documents to them. What is it exactly that they are looking for that is not there in those 7,600 other pages? Not that I think Holder should not be punished if he did do what they claim he did but I find it interesting that some Republicans all of a sudden are worried about out brothers to the South. The way you hear them normally talk about Mexicans you would think they would not care. I think the only reason this is a hot ticket item is that it can be used to try to tear down Obama.

Yes, the Bush administration did run a fast and furious type program. There were huge differences between the Bush version and the Obama version

1. All guns were set with a tracking device. Not so for the Obama version

2. The Mexican government was in on it. Not so for the Obama administration.

When the country falls into recession, private companies contract and unemployment blossoms, which then makes conditions worse (declining money for consumers to spend = declining revenue for companies = less jobs). We've just had a particularly nasty recession -- caused largely by insufficient government regulation btw -- which required significant stimulus spending by both Bush and Obama to avert what may have become a depression.

All we get from the GOP, however, is CUT CUT CUT, which is one of the worst things you can do during an economic downturn at the state or national level (NOT at the household level which is probably what confuses so many people). We need a GROWING economy to get out of the hole we're in -- and this argument is strengthened by recent developments in Europe. I appreciate the response and no it is never that simple, but how many words do you want me to type to make the point? And I agree in principle there is a time and a place for the government to stimulate an economy, Keynes had a problem with his theory and that was being able to discern when to stop stimulating. Mr. Obama has already dumped a trillion dollars into the economy. What did we get? A bunch of nether region "saved jobs" meaning jobs attributed to the stimulus but with no way of knowing if they were saved. Obama has stated the Stimulus saved 5 million jobs. Really?

So we are faced with QE3 and QE4 and QE5 and...? Where does it end? Keynes never planned it that far. So does it end when China takes away the credit card? When our credit rating is BBB-? Remember, Keynes theorized heavy economic stimulus as a means of pulling a country out of Depression. But that was based on 1930's America where our debt was a pittance compared to 2010's America.

Here is a another idea but Mr. Obama cannot go down this path because it does not ring true with his narrative that corporations are evil. Mr. Obama should immediately support a one year corporate profit repatriation tax holiday. Instead of facing 35% federal tax rate, drop it, to 15% as an example, and see how many billions if not trillions come back to the USA. He can even put a string on it that attaches some measure of job creation if he likes or face a fine. A 15% rate on a trillion dollars is 30 times greater than the Buffet Tax would generate.

Some of that new found cash would go back into the business in the form of R&D and business expansion, some would go to buy back stock, some would go into dividends, some would go to payback debts and so on. Keep in mind, stock buy backs and dividends would generate another 15% capital gains tax to those who receive it. (Never mind the double tax on corporation and the shareholder.) Think about that stimulus for a second. I just outlined a trillion dollar stimulus that did not cost the taxpayer a cent and generated federal revenue of a couple of hundred billion dollars at the same time. Of course it will require a trickle down for which seemingly all Liberals will not stand. But what is the alternative? The profits earned off shore will stay off shore. These profits will eventually be used to invest in other economies off shore. The USA suffers. And Mr. Keynes did not have this option to consider in his 1930's scope.

Too bad that doesn't fit well with Obama's 4 year narrative of evil business/corporations.

Clearly a compromise is in order, but our politicians have succeeded in polarizing Americans, feeding them talking points designed to cloud their rational judgement, and telling us we can have our cake and eat it too. Well we cannot. And there is no singular argument that cannot be improved by simply having a rational debate and finding the compromise.

There are so many ideas for revenue generation that will create jobs at the same time, but these ideas will be created by Business and enabled by government, not created by government.

Today in North Dakota they will go to the polls to vote to repeal their property taxes because they have grown their economy from oil revenue so much that the states coffers have overflowed. You know they could do that in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Alaska, Ohio and Pennsylvania too, if we would just invest in drilling. We can generate both federal and state revenue that can go for all sorts of social and environmental projects if we choose to do it. North Dakota has a problem with not having enough houses, a problem the other 49 states wish they had.

Today in Nashville, citizens are discussing raising property taxes to pay for increased teacher pay. It amounts to asking the parents of the students each to reach into their pockets and pull out a $20 bill each month and give it to the teacher, figuratively speaking. Since many of these student's families are already struggling, does this make sense?

Read "Too Big Too Fail" by Andrew Ross Sorkin and make up your own mind before you take your quickdraw shot at me. I think once presented the facts of the day (not the benefit of hindsight), no matter how distasteful, the bank bailout was necessary to save our economy from a calamitous crash.

I further agree that an economic stimulus was in order and that is why President Bush pushed it through during the lame duck period so that Obama would have it in hand. However, I am not in agreement with the projects on which that money was spent. Looking back, we basically propped up the state governments and the public sector employees for a couple of years. That's it. We shoveled some not so ready projects that did not much good to any one. So why should we do that again?

My thoughts keep taking me back to 2008 when then candidate Obama promised transparency in his administration. Just so everyone is clear, for the sake of argument, we are putting aside the "birth certificate" issue or non-issue. So when he was elected he got himself a blackberry (or some device similar) that he refused to allow access to. Then he touted the so-called "Obamacare" bill and the Democrat leaders and loudmouths said "Vote for it, then we'll see what's in it." Then Obama decided that he was going to send US support to the rebels in Libya, out of the blue and fresh off announcing a withdrawal from Iraq and knowing that the US people had enough of wars and useless conflicts that really did not involve the US to begin with (if the bombing by Gadhaffi so many years ago was the reason, then previous president's, or more specifically the president at the time, should have declared such an action). Now, he is backing up his Attorney General Eric Holder in allowing Holder to retain information regarding Fast & Furious. Will someone tell me at what point has this administration ever been transparent? Wait, I know. They are transparent in their general disregard of the collective intellect of the American people.

I heard Obama in an interview on Telemundo specifically state that the Arizona immigration legislation encourages profiling. If you read that legislation, it specifically states there will no profiling and that law enforcement officers must take classes to avoid doing so. I know it was mostly politics by Obama, but he made sure at the time that we all knew he had presented a budget proposal to congress. I've been lucky, because we had managed to save allot of money in the good times, but that won't sustain us for much longer. All I know is I'm much worse off now than I was when Obama took office. And that's the biggest concern I have. I've never depended on leprechauns. Just hard work and I've been lucky to have a loyal group of workers that care more about staying employed than sitting next to the thousands of local union workers on the bench hoping to get hired again.
