CHICAGO -- Rick Santorum is fully behind Mitt Romney. Kind of.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his address to the Conservative Political Action Conference here, the former Republican presidential candidate called Romney "a tremendous improvement" over President Obama. But, he added, "As I said during the campaign, I think we could have been even more of an improvement, but that issue has passed."
The former Pennsylvania senator said he will be campaigning for Romney, though he did not have any specifics on when the two will be together.
Instead he said he will support the GOP nominee through his new non-profit group, "Patriot Voices," launched Friday to promote conservative candidates and the issues he pushed in his campaign.
Santorum endorsed the former Massachusetts governor in a late-night email to supporters last month after the two held a private meeting in Pittsburgh. He has dismissed speculation that any bad blood exists between the two after what became a fierce and negative primary battle.
The role Santorum will play at the convention is still unclear. He met with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus recently to ensure his delegates are able to play a role in Tampa.
"I want to make sure that the folks who represent the values that I did during this campaign are also able to come to that convention and have their voices heard," said Santorum. "I certainly have encouraged everyone to support Gov. Romney as I have, but there are a lot of other issues at a convention other than just, you know, voting for the nominee.”
Like the annual CPAC event in February, Santorum took the stage after an introduction from Foster Friess, the chief backer of the pro-Santorum Super PAC Red, White and Blue Fund. Back then, Friess joked that Romney was a conservative, moderate and liberal all wrapped into one. But on Friday, he had nothing but words of encouragement for the man he spent so much money trying to defeat. In front of the crowd of conservative activists, Santorum also expressed support for Romney when he took the stage.
And Santorum declined to weigh in on what will be one of Romney's vice presidential pick. "If I was the nominee I wouldn't want other people telling me who to put in."

Wow! What more could good old mitts want, Santorum endorses him. Boy that's a true vote of confidence - from a really messed up guy! If I were running that's the LAST endorsement I'd want. Kind of like wanting that pastor who keeps predicting the end of time to endorse you. But, I guess if Mitt gets elected - it might be the end of time! yech!

Just as long as they get their people to the polls in november. I don't care if they do it with clothespins on their noses. I want Obama out of the White House and Sebbelius unemployed. Then we can get a healthcare plan that really takes care of heath for Americans not that pushes the agenda of Planned Parenthood.

Obama, speaking at a hastily called session with reporters in the White House briefing room, defended his handling of the weak economy, insisting that "the private sector is doing fine."

Not as .... Yes, we are fortunate. At a time when the entire world economy is tanking President Obama has done a good job keeping us from going under - even though it is what the GOP wanted.
Obama added more jobs in 3.5 years than Bush did in 8 years. There is one area of job creation where President Bush clearly outshines President Obama: the public sector. Public sector employment is now down 608,000 workers since January 2009, a 2.7% decline.
So you see, if Obama created public sector jobs like Bush did, the unemplyment would be like what 5.6% today????

I agree America is a great country that I'm very proud of, and that our standard of living has been above most countries, however even high school kids know that times are tough right now...

He had two years of control of both houses and all they got accomplished was that abomination called Obamacare by the whole country. And they only got that through by pushing a mid night vote. His budget that he sent to the Democratically controlled senate was shot down 99-0. He couldn't even get his own party to vote for it. So Seeking sanity how do you explain that?

Obama never had Super Majority - ever. He was close but not close enough.
The point is that even with a bill like revamping the tax system to reward those companies that bring jobs home instead of rewarding those who do not, the Republicans said big fat NO. Not only did they not vote on the bill, they voted so that they would not HAVE to vote on that bill.
I am sick of the Republicans saying jobs jobs jobs and then doing everything so no jobs get created. Why? To make Obama a one term president - isn't that what they vowed the day of his inauguration?????
We live in the richest country in the world, at a level of civilization most people on this globe can only dream about attaining, and the Republicans want to make every American feel like life is sooooo hard - so much harder than the frontier days, so much harder than during the Great Depression, so much harder than during World War II, so much harder than the recessions of the 1980's....and it's all because the teachers in some states get a pension.
Exactly who is saying that teachers making pensions is causing so much problems?
What people fail to realize that our "brilliant" public servants that set up these pensions over promised what they could afford, especially in slow economic times. It wouldn't have taken an Einstein to figure out that the pension fund needed to be graduated based on the economic growth of the previous year. No growth, no pension money...

Wisconsin teachers agreed to all the austerity cuts asked of them, and the Republicans still killed their right to collective bargaining. Apparently, only corporations are allowed to lobby the government - working people must be knocked down so that states can give millionaires their richly deserved tax cuts.

Money is not everything. I could have millions but if I do not have the freedom to worship as I please and LIVE my beliefs I would have nothing. I will not vote for someone who is trying to control my freedom . I will not vote democrat.
@lonereb...The democrats believe in separation of church and state so you can LIVE your beliefs. Without separation of church and state you would be living the beliefs of the majority of the voters. The Teaparty is living proof of how bad that would be.
They have no real common ground. Romney outlied Santorum 20:1. Romney's only real commitment is to be elected. That would finally top his dad's achievements and forever keep his name in history. All he needs now is a well qualified running mate to tell him what to do if he wins.
I've been in PA for over 40 years and have never liked, nor voted for, Santorum. Go ahead left, rip him apart.

Well seems like Rick got out just in time. He is now a looooooooser for sure. We need Colon Powell as president if we are going to have a chance in this world. Neither of the present candidates are worth mud-pudding. I mean the mud from the ground not the cookies. Personally we have not had a president since obama moved into OUR WHITE HOUSE. Romney will bring down the country more as he is a cultist. We need someone who is a True American with Military background for sure.
