Romney: Wisconsin results will 'echo throughout the country'

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Mitt Romney's campaign seem bolstered in their hopes of winning Wisconsin this fall, with Romney predicting Republican Gov. Scott Walker's victory in last night's recall election would "echo throughout the country" this November.

"What happened yesterday was people looked at a Republican governor, a conservative, and even though they may have been Democrat or independent, they looked at the record of a conservative who cut back on the size of government, who held down taxes, who said we had to reform — in this case public sector unions that asked for too much — and then he went to the polls," Romney told donors at a fundraiser here in San Antonio this morning.

Romney expanded upon that position in a conference call with business owners later this afternoon.

"The vote that we saw last night in Wisconsin said that people in what many have considered a blue state — it hasn’t voted for a Republican for president since 1984 — a blue state said we’ve seen a conservative governor, he cut back on the scale of government and has held down taxes and stood up to the public sector unions, and we want more of that not less of it," Romney told callers from the National Federation of Independent Business. "And I think you’re gonna find that in the decisions being made in November."

And while exit polls last night in Wisconsin showed Romney trailing President Obama among recall voters, the state is an attractive target for Romney's campaign as it looks to make inroads against the president's 2008 electoral map.

One Romney adviser described Walker's victory, and the mobilized, organized and well-funded Republican apparatus that made it possible, as something that "opens the door for us," in the Wisconsin — but emphasized that Romney doesn't have to win the state to reach the 270 it needs to win the White House.

Another top Romney adviser cautioned that the campaign had not yet decided how big of an effort to make towards winning Wisconsin, but suggested that the campaign would certainly be on offense there.

Wisconsin has become an unlikely incubator for top Republican talent in recent years, with Walker, RNC Chairman Reince Preibus and House Budget Committee Chairman (and oft-floated VP shortlister) Paul Ryan all hailing from the Badger state.

The Obama campaign has kept its own focus on what it asserts is Romney's lackluster record as governor.

“In Texas today, Mitt Romney offered nothing more than empty election-year promises—promises that we’ve heard from him before. He said that his priority as president would be job creation, but we know that that wasn’t his priority either as a corporate buyout specialist or during his time as governor," said Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith.

It's a good reminder that WE MOST NOT BE COMPLACENT. Please go out and vote DEMOCRAT if you do not want the GOP to take everything away from you, including your rights to choose what you want to do with your body -of course, if you are a woman-

And something else, the GOP is OPPOSING same pay for women. Another reason why all women and men should VOTE DEMOCRAT: obama 2012. Many women are the BREAD WINNERS of the family. They do not have the luxury of "staying home"a nd have the nannies and the cooks do all the work. They work outside the home, and go home to cook, clean, and help with the homework of their children. MRS. ROMNEY AND MR. ROMNEY HAVE NO IDEA OF THE REAL WORLD.

Willard is a Norquist pledger; Many Republicans disagree with and oppose Grover Norquist (and rightly so!)

Even Jeb Bush has rejected this pledge.

According to Wikipedia:

Norquist's pledge binds signatories to opposing deficit reduction...

So all of you RWNJ Romney supporters MUST be anti-American. Mittens promised to do what is best for Grover, Karl, the Kochs and the 1%ers before doing what is best for the United States of America -

ergo to support Romney is to advocate anti-America sentiment.

Knowledge is power, and all of that.

Oh and Stupid if Romney support Norquist and that's anti-american, but half the people support Romney, does that mean 1/2 the people are un-american?

Or is it just possible that you are being a tad over0dramatic?

Not so much Stupid. But tell you what - how about you try to make it more interesting.

What are the specific charges? Who and what entity is investigating? Who filed the claim, and where are the charges documented.

Can you even provide the identity of a single person with knowledge of the claims as they relate to Walker?

Can you provide the identity of a specific person standing behind these 'claims?'

So, Stupid other than unsubstantiated allegations and innuendo, do you have anything else?

Yawn.

Besides this kind of thing really is more up Feisty and Bev's alley, eh? How many Ill. gov are currently in the can?

Simply terrific! Liberals can't win elections (ever since 2010) and they are becoming rabid with hatred. Come on liberals, try and stop the Tea Party... let's see if you can. Not while they are gunning for your type and working on bringing you into mediocrity class.

I've heard it said that it will take 60 years to reverse all the damage the liberals have done to this country. The United States stands for freedom but liberals want to bring everyone under slavery. Cradle to grave government oversight into everyone's lives. Entitlement programs giving taxpayer money to those who won't work for it... and especially this administration spending taxpayers dollars on other countries while Americans are hurting because of the lack of work. This is the liberal way and it has to stop!

Ive said it before, but after the debacle of last night's exit polls, it bears saying again. . .

In 1980, Carter led Reagan by eight points at this point.

In fact, on the eve of the election, all polling indicated it was "too close to call". Sound familiar?

Reagan won by ten points- and an electoral landslide.

Romney and Obama are tied, at the moment. What do you think that means for November?

I'm hoping for a change. So is America.

Man, these political reporters really kinda suck at this, don't they?

Where o where is DOminico to explain the inherent 4 point bias in exit polls in favor of the dems?

And it ain't even like they muffed this by 4, rather 7.

Man, it really must suck to be this bad at your job.

Hey maybe Dominico and Co. will draft an article letting us all know how and why they screwed this pooch so bad, and why when you correct for their errors, O is behind by 2 points.

Sure he will.

I think he is calling him a LIBERAL...

B.S. Sirie;

He said nothing at all about Romney not being liberal: are YOU asserting that Romney is NOT Liberal (comparatively speaking of course next to the teabaggers.)

Why on earth would he be thankful "he is not Obama"? The only distinction is the President's race. Otherwise the statement would have been something like , "...he is not Pelosi" or "he is not Reid" or "he is not Kennedy"...

But boy YOU sure are quick to try to distance yourself from the racism; almost as quick as you are to distance yourselves from Dumbya/Cheney!

Keep spinning that RNC/TEA garbage: "The economy wasn't so bad under Bush - Obama did it, so it has nothing to do with Republican economics and you can't say Romney will do the same." "Obama's race doesn't have anything to do with it..."

Aren't you RWNJ' at least a little ashamed at telling such bold faced lies????????

So are you saying Romney is going to win or do you want a canidate tell our hero's (I know hero's is a hard word for a Liberal, ask that prick Chris Hayes) an empty promise if he doesn't win? See Obama is full of empty promises, the ones you believe in. Now tell me a canidate that wasn't a Congressmen/women or a Senator that visited our "HERO'S" in a medical center? You don't have to say hero's, I understand, Warrior will work.

Breaking from Newsmax.com

35,000 Wealthy Households Paid No 2009 Taxes

The percentage of U.S. taxpayers reporting adjusted gross income exceeding $200,000 who paid no U.S. income taxes increased in 2009 to 0.53 percent from 0.51 percent, meaning that one in 189 high earners avoided taxation, an Internal Revenue Service study found.

The filers reported tax-exempt interest along with deductible charitable contributions, medical expenses and other items to reduce their taxable income. Some avoid the alternative minimum tax, which was created in 1969 in response to a report that 155 people earned $200,000 and paid nothing in taxes.

The evil rich who don't pay their fair share of taxes. No one has been able to define exactly what a "fair share" is.

Rich people invest their money in tax free municipal bonds. The Left will say they are cruel, unpatriotic and are avoiding taxes. Cities, towns and states issue municipal bonds. The bonds are issued to raise money to pay for specific projects --- like building highways (that put people to work and keep our roads safe), like funding schools (that educate our children), like essential services projects (like water and sewers to provide clean water and sanitary conditions for the people), to build hospitals and sports stadiums.

Cities and states could go to banks to borrow the money -- but banks are evil, too and just in it for profit, right? They could go to the federal government --- but the Federal Government is broke and federally funded projects usually come with promises and strings attached, appropriation ordeals, etc.

Instead an investor - an affluent one - will loan out their money to complete these projects and in effect do all that good stuff for all the people. Pretty nice of them, huh? In return, the rich investors ask for a reasonable rate of interest on the loan they are making. Seems fair.

The cool thing about supporting projects through investment in municipal bonds versus simply paying taxes to the government and hoping the government doesn't pee it away, is that the investor gets to choose the project he thinks is worthy, gets to choose what city or state will benefit. If the investor loans the money to the cities and states, the federal government doesn't have to. That saves the government money. That's why the interest they earn is tax free.

Through this neat arrangement of funding projects through bonds instead of tax money, the federal government is left out of the loop. We know the federal government can't run a project efficiently without an enormous amount of corruption and waste, so private lending by rich people is more efficient and ethical.

Deducting charitable contributions is also a benefit to encourage support of worthy causes. Would the Left prefer contributions to charities cease? That wouldn't be very compassionate and Left-like.

I realize the reality that investors tend to pay less in taxes is irritating on the surface, but understand the underlying factors before condemning what the evil rich do with some of their money.

Poor clueless Spanky...

still does not understand what a 1%er is.

Can not get over his dollar fixation obviously -

You know they can treat that OC syndrome Spanky. A good therapist and some medication might get you over your compulsion with few side effects.

My advise is to try it. Find a good, competent shrink and get some treatment.

For your own good and to facillitate your understanding.

The GOP ground game was strong! Credit in part to RGA Chairman, Va Governor Bob McDonnell...

McDonnell's GOP ground game in Virginia has resulted in historic GOP state gains over the past few years.

Ergo, McDonnell's stock as a VP possibility is rising...

if you mean outspending your opponent by a 5 to 1 margin, then you're right. Walker's done. His rise is over. He may have fooled the dairy farmers in Wisconsin, but he's hated around the country. I doubt you'll see him out and about for a walk in the near future either. You don't f--k with people's livelihoods and get a free pass.

outspending your opponent by a 5 to 1 margin

So, when President Obama's campaign spouted their target of raising $1 billion, that was offensive, too?

he's hated around the country.

I think since the percentage of workers who belong to a union is substantially less than the percentage of non-union tax payers, I think the mood of the majority is quite upbeat, and many are very happy for Governor Walker, the State of Wisconsin, and the way the recall turned out.

I saw a couple of union bosses interviewed today. They sure looked steaming with hatred, and bewilderment. They're afraid of losing their cushy existence on the backs of the workers, I'm sure those are the people around the country hating Governor Walker right now. Too bad.

Candice, or is it Candy? So misinformed. All of those "cushy" benefits you enjoy, like paid holidays, vacations, lunch breaks, etc. came from the sacrifices made by union workers. Yes, the workers vote to elect a union to represent them in collective bargaining for, you guessed it, better working conditions and benefits. You see, the people they make filthy rich, would pay them nothing if they could get away with it. So, if you think unions are outdated and you would like to return to working conditions in the past, by all means, feel free to move to China or Mexico. Let us know how you make out.

Tony,

The unions served a major purpose years ago. The strides they achieved were well-intentioned, purposed, noble and truly changed what workers had to endure. Thank God for Unions back then.

Then, unfortunately, they grew out of control. Now, they are absorbed with power. They demand dues and workers have no choice. (unions know if workers had a choice half of the workers would not pay). They are oblivious to the reality of a poor economy, could care less about others who are struggling, and demand more and more anyway. It was the unions that priced workers out of the market destroying the jobs they were supposed to protect --- causing work to be sent to China and Mexico. Among other factors.

They spent $20 Million on the recall campaign. Do you think $20 million could have paid for additional benefits for teachers or firefighters or police instead? I think union dues should be spent on benefits and retirement plans. Not paying off politicians and paying for bosses to meet "for business" at a luxury resort in Boca Raton, among other things wrong with unions today. Living in Illinois and having grown up in a union family. I know how corrupt and thug-like they can be. Not all unions are as bad as the ones here, I understand.

Unions may still serve a purpose but need to be reigned in.

So, no, Tony, I am not misinformed. I am experienced. I can also negotiate myself a job, salary and a benefit package. I don't need someone else to do that for me. Really, do you?

but would enjoy the same benefits that paying members do, duh!

Unions may still serve a purpose but need to be reigned in.

how so? only 12% of the labor force belong to unions. Hardly a majority. Why don't you just cut to the chase. What really ticks you off about organized labor is that they support the Democratic Party, which in turn supports them. If it were the other way around, you would have no problems with unions.

So, no, Tony, I am not misinformed. I am experienced.

Really, are you Jimi Hendrix?

I can also negotiate myself a job, salary and a benefit package. I don't need someone else to do that for me. Really, do you?

Ahh, the old "I don't need no one to do anything for me" routine, eh? Well, that's fine for you. But you ain't the only one on this rock. Not everyone has access to the boss's office to demand that raise. Especially when the answer is always the same, a big no. Ask most folks and they'll tell you they're working more hours for less pay. And it has nothing to do with experience, education or qualification. Just that it's take it or leave it. And fyi, I don't belong to a union either.

Come on, Tony. Tell me you don't think that the amount of money flying around elections, and lobbying, and politicking isn't insane. Yes, I do have a problem with the unions sending 90% of the member's money to the Democrats. Not all union members are Democrats, you know. Would you mind if I took 10% of your paycheck and sent it to the Romney campaign without asking you?

I am on the side of the "I don't need anyone to do anything for me." It's called being self sufficient, confident, worthy and smart. These are things our teachers should be teaching our children so they can take care of their own affairs when they grow up. But the teacher's won't. They don't have the mindset and don't believe in learning to be rewarded for merit -- only being rewarded by being part of a group. Pretty sad, if you ask me.

And, Tony. If the boss keeps telling you "no" when you ask for a raise, maybe you're not good enough to earn an increase, or maybe you should find another job.

WALKER WIN BOOSTS RGA AND McDONNELL: As head of the Republican Governors Association, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell led the RGA’s efforts to support Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in Tuesday’s recall election, dispatching governors, whose names have also been floated as potential VP contenders, to campaign with him in Wisconsin and pouring millions of dollars into the race. As the Washington Examiner notes, Walker’s win in Wisconsin gave McDonnell “bragging rights” over his DGA counterpart, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, and served as a “a dress rehearsal for nearly a dozen gubernatorial contests this fall.”

Here is a sign of my generosity of spirit-

When a theory does not work, it's time to abandon the theory.

Vilifying all republicans as crazy does not work. It did not work in 2009- Chriatie, McDonnell, Brown. It did not work in 2010- 63 seats in the House, six in the Senate. It did not work last night.

The sum total of results suggest that it did not work, does not work, and will not work.

Maybe you should try something else? Like, maybe, defending Obama's record?

I know it's hard- but, hey, you guys still worship him, so have at it.

I would think the liberals would like Governor Romney as President. The issue the right has with him is that he's not far enough to the right. He's been on both sides of social issues, it seems. So he's not likely to be hard core conservative. I think someone a little wishy washy or more open at lease might be able to build consensus and get some positive things done in a centrist sort of way.

people voting against there own self interest

It boggles my mind that others are so self righteous to think they know what is "best" for other people, or that people are too stupid to take care of themselves.

      BUYING YOUR VOTE AMERICA

Both sides raise insane amounts of money from insanely self-serving special interest groups. Some money is spent getting messages out. Promising people free health care, free tuition, free mortgages, free contraceptives, or free loan guarantees sounds more like blatantly "buying" votes to me.

You cannot even think to compare the spending tactics of the GOP with the expected way to obtain funds. Of course both sides raise money. But there is an even balance and then there is a tipping of the scale. The GOP will attempt to tip the scale with large conservative billionaires. Some of these billionaires, not even politically connedted to the party, will support the GOP to insure corporate tax cuts and "the rich getn richer" The DEMS will be outspent 5 to 1 this campaign so check thy facts, WAKE UP!

With only 15% of americans in unions, dues are a necessity to insure a safety net for families and individuals. So when you see the teacher that teaches your loved one, or the police officer, or fire fighter who comes to help your loved one, think about them as hard working servants of society, not as people who are being bullied or intimidated, they want the best and they feel unions is the best way to go

You know, that's exactly how I see them. And that's why I would rather see the money they pay in dues go to their retirement and pension funds, insurance and benefit plans. That their dues pay the bloated salaries of union leaders, printing up strike signs, spending $20 million on a temper tantrum and buying the occasional inflatable rat, I think our hard working public servants are being used and disrespected. I'd rather pay their salaries than pay for the union thugs and their activities.

Ok so now with all but every union in this country down to about 17% because all the other unions had been destroyed because of globalization and we allowed our manufacturing plants and factories to be broken up, dismantled, sold off and send off shore. Our middle class is down to about 47%, this means that 48% of the people in this country are living in the low income bracket. Our middle class is disappearing. Our middle class for the last 200 has always been the largest percentage of the people in this country, the back bone of this country, the ones that grew this country and that built this country.

Now I’m not going to say that we have or had a stronger middle class before or because of the unions. But we had a better and stronger middle class after the unions. Think about it most of the union we have left are in the public sector and if these goes are we as a nation prepared to stand up for what the unions used to stand up for, the rights of all workers across this country not just unions members. The assault on unions began back when President Reagan fired the air traffic controllers because they went on strike, because they wanted better working conditions and more people to avoid accidents etc. and this attach on unions has not stopped, it has gotten worst.

You just have to wonder way so many people are or were really against the President helping out the Auto companies, was it really because these people felt that the auto industry in this country was over or was it because of their unions.

The unions helped to get laws passed for safety rules and regulations on the jobs, to keep mines from caving in on workers etc. Also like having an organization like EPA to help protect the workers from harmful pollutants while working. People there are ads on TV right now because of people that were exposed and injured because of asbestos and also there has been clusters all over the United States of people getting cancer because of chemicals leaching into their water supplies and being pushed into the air they breathe.

Right now we are being lead to believe that if teachers, policemen, firefighters, nurses; first responders and any and all public employees still in unions would get minimum wage or less pay and smaller retirement and all unions left were dissolved that our problems would be over, or would they. Are these things really a problem or our problem or are unions really the fault at to what is or has happened to our country or is this all just a made up problem by just a few so some can control all.

Who will protect the rights the middle class has obtained over the last 200 years, like better working conditions, like fair labor laws, like the fair child labor laws, like the 40 hours work week, like overtime pay, like your weekends, and what about minimum wage will this be an issue sooner than later. All these things and more are because of the unions if they would not have used collective bargaining we would not have any of these things, is it possible without unions we will lose these.

Why are the unions such a threat, Why is it so important to dismantled, wipeout and destroyed what is left of them. If there is no unions at all who will stand up for the middle class workers rights in this country. Will the multitudes strike, protest or assemble and has this really been helping up to this point, this has been happening all over this country for one reason or another for the past 4-6 years by one groups or another and things are still going against the middle class.

It may encourage the far right in their crusade against constitutional rights, but the public is not generally inclined to be fascist.
