Mitt Romney began invoking Bill Clinton last month on the campaign trail, lamenting that, it's too bad Barack Obama is just nothing like the former president.
Yes, the same Bill Clinton congressional Republicans pushed to impeach in the 1990s.
After Clinton's on-again, off-again messaging for President Obama, Republicans in Congress are now feeling the love, too.
Just today, NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports that Sens. John Thune, a potential vice-president pick for Romney, and Orrin Hatch took to the Senate floor to sing Bubba's praises.
Hatch went all out, invoking the 42nd president's name 10 times.
THUNE (R-SD):
"and with regard to the tax increases, I would make the same argument. the same argument actually that former president Bill Clinton has been making and that is we need to extend these tax rates; we create too much economic uncertainty out there by having this cloud out there on the horizon and that that is a real warning sign..."
Not to mention, of course, that Clinton doesn't support permanently extending the Bush tax cuts and that every Republican voted against Clinton's 1993 tax increases.
HATCH (R-UT):
"Well, it was no surprise therefore that when former President Clinton stated yesterday that we were still in a recession. Economists might say that is not technically accurate, but it is certainly how most Americans feel. What did come as a surprise, however, were President Clinton's remarks on tax-mageddon, the fiscal cliff that the nation faces at the end of this year. At least yesterday it sounded like his view was that we should do a complete 180 and race away from this cliff extending in full the tax relief extended, or enacted by President Bush and extended by President Obama in 2010." ...
"There should be no higher priority for the president and the congress than addressing these tax increases. Yesterday President Clinton seemed to agree, arguing that we should act now, not after the elections, to avoid the fiscal cliff. at a minimum, he concluded that a temporary extension of current tax relief was in order. quote -- to quote former President Clinton -- "They will probably have to put everything off until early next year. that's probably the best thing to do right now," unquote." ...
"Now, President Clinton further argued, quote, "What i think we need to do is to find some way to avoid the fiscal cliff. to avoid doing anything that would contract the economy now and then deal with what's necessary in the long-term debt-reduction plan as soon as they they can, which presumably will be after the election." Unquote." ...
"Now, channeling Gilda Radner, President Clinton tells us, never mind. President Clinton knew what he was saying. One thing I can say, knowing him as well as I do, he's a very smart man. He was making an elementary point, one that the president, President Obama, seemed to agree with when he was -- seemed to agree with when he was not running for election on a platform. President Clinton, not wanting to further undermine our economy, recommended a short-term extension of all the tax relief." ...
"This is just me now," this is President Clinton. "This is just me now. I am not speaking for the White House. You could tax me at 100%, and you wouldn't balance the budget. We are all going to have to contribute to this. If middle-class people's wages were going up again, I don't think they would object to going back to tax rates from when he was president." With due respect to our former president, I do think that he was speaking for the White House, and I do think that most Americans would object to a tax hike. That is why President Obama has decided to lay low." ...
"And if the president and his campaign team think that they can punt this issue until the fall, they are sorely mistaken. The American people will voice their displeasure with his failure to lead in November. President Clinton got it right the first time yesterday. The fiscal cliff must be addressed now. We cannot wait until later in the year."
A reminder:

As usual, Clinton's position on any issue takes all sides simultaneously, or hours apart.
Clinton does know what he's doing. He doesn't want any part in helping Obama limp back in for a second (dreary) term. But he can always point to 'appearances' for the messiah, washing away sin while paving his way back to Democrat top dog when Obama is humiliated at the polls. oh well
We loved him when he was getting fellatio in the Oval Office, but the stupid congress let him off with a "good ol boy" and we're still stuck with him, and women seem to love him more because he's a sex maniac
do you drink cham pain that tastes just like cherry cola?
If you plan to vote for BO … you are part of the problem
.
.
And once again, this shows what a great, great leader obama is. He is soooo far ahead of romney morally that clinton can say whatever he wants to and the morally corrupt romney will say clinton is heads and shoulders above obama. It's just where romney is.
And why. How can you say romney is even worse morally than clinton with cigars. Is it because of slips like 'i don't care about the poor.' No. No. What about ' i like firing people.' No. No. Stealing life savings of workers leaving them with nothing while at vulture capitalist bane. Not that.
What's really wrong is when romney pays 14% income tax, wants to pay even less, while already paying less than people who take the trash out of his billionaire mansions, and supporting and cutting off food of the poor in the wealthiest country in the world. Unforgivable. I tell you, the creator will look upon it as being worse than clinton with a new box full of cigars.
Wow...ok, taking snippets of quotations out of context...I believe you know what you're doing there, so I'm not even gonna try to explain where you're wrong. But I believe you are honestly too stupid to understand how the capital gains tax works.
Me poor. Rich man bad...Obamanomics 101. And that is all you need know.
And look at it this way. Mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo will never bring out the bushman to campaign for romney. And why. Because they have the exact same policies. Romney still cannot see what the bushman did wrong. He cannot see what went wrong during the bush years and will tell you those were the best years for this country ever.
Mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo say the same thing. The rushbo spent a whole day saying exactly that. But to tell you the truth, sooo many people were asking what was the rushbo smoking. The 2007 economy & market crashing at a faster rate that 1929 and those were the best years of this country.
And what about the treasury secretary crawling around on his knees with his hands clasped in prayer, pleading to the country & congress to approve tarp. I have never seen anything like that but it looked pitiful. Somebody should have told the treasury secretary to at least get off his knees. And to please stop the begging. I tell you it wasn't a high point for our country.
Romney and Son's 8 Billion Ponzi Scam
Romney & Son Investigated for 8 Billion Ponzi Scheme
Mitt Romney and his son Tagg Romney have been implicated in a 8.5 billion dollar ponzi scheme with Wall Street investors Allen Stanford and James M. Davis.
The pair are not cleared including their three partners in a court document verified, ongoing legal proceeding involving selling fraudulent CD’s to potential investors.
The statement of fact, includes SIBL, Stanford International Bank, SGC Stanford Capital Management and the associates R. Allen Stanford, ( Allen Stanford) and James M. Davis stole money from investors through fraud. The group bilked investors by diverting funds to their own lifestyles through bonus money, salaries and compensation packages.
The Stanford Financial Group now in receivership headed by Allen Stanford sold investments described as a “well-diversified portfolio”. Instead Stanford diverted the money to finance his own lavish lifestyle which include: jet planes, yacht, pleasure crafts, luxury cars, homes, travel on a company credit card.
Tagg Romney
Allen Stanford, James M. Davis and Laura Pendergest-Holt through SIBL (the bank) Stanford International Bank) hid the fraud by continuing to buy CD’s (Certificate of Deposit) and fabricated the performance of their investments. (More court documents: HERE) More information on the legal procedures: HERE A court date was set for January 23, 2012 but according to various reports Allen Stanford is incompetent to stand trial.
Mitt Romney and Son Tagg in 2008 invested in Allen Stanford’s ponzi scheme to the tune of 10 million dollars initially in Solamere Capital a seed investment and received 1 million in returns. Tagg Romney joined in to help Solamere Capital located in Charlotte, North Carolina with three other prominent brokers.
Tagg Romney is quoted as saying he was proud of his investment with Solamere now run by former executives of Stanford, ” They’re friends of ours, they used the Solamere name, we own a piece of them”. “We helped them get started”
Despite claims by Tagg and Mitt Romney the investigation is still “ongoing” and the profits from Stanford and Solemere were unreported by Tagg Romney. He also did possess a minority stake in the business with Spencer Zwick and Eric Scheuermann.
Spencer Zwich is Mitt Romney’s Chief Fundraiser. Investors in Stanford have not recovered their money, and the assets are still in receivership and frozen until the case is resolved. A total of 8.5 billion dollars is still unaccounted for and the billion dollar Ponzi scheme lays at Mitt Romney’s feet for his and his son’s investment partners who were all involved.
Curated News
ABC News Politics – Romney Camp Dismissive of Ponzi Accusation
“But according to Think Progress, Tagg Romney’s account isn’t entirely accurate: “According to documents reviewed by ThinkProgess using the Pacer search engine, charges against Tim Bambauer, Deems May, and Brandon Phillips have not been dropped. A recent court filing shows May requesting the court for arbitration instead of going to trial.
ThinkProgress also spoke to the deputy clerk for the federal District Court in Dallas, and confirmed that the three men are still defendants in the lawsuit to recover the Ponzi scheme money.”
Garbage.
You got that right about ThinkProgress!
Because they sure can't talk about how much Bush got right, can they?
Forget all this B S.. All you have to remember is ; Vote Obama out !!!!!
Clinton is willing to admit we're still in a recession and points out the need to maintain the tax cuts. Clinton's economy was pretty good. In response, Obama refuses to maintain the tax cuts. Reminds me of a quote from a Sci Fi series, "arrogance and stupidity all in the same package. How efficient of you."
The republicans would call that "flip-flopping".
They won't love him in 4 years though. He is setting the stage for his wife to run for president. If obama gets back in the country will be in such ruin that no one will want ANY democrat. If Romney gets in he probably can't get the country completly out of the mess it is in and hopes that idiots will then vote for Hillary.
I've been thinking the same thing. President Clinton is the consummate politician and is setting the stage for Hillary in 2012.
What more do you liberals need to realize Obama is not doing the job? When "Uncle Billy" Democrat icon, party leader, husband of the current Secretary of State and all around Statesman shows "discontent" with the President, how can you all still have faith? It must be true, liberalism is a mental illness!
BILL CLINTON CAN SAY WHATEVER HE WANTS, BUT HE SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER THE BIG PICTURE. There is no doubt that the man is a political genius. There is also no doubt that he is undisciplined and sometimes bitter--I wouldn't say mean. Clinton is six feet of wisdom and six feet of stupidity--like the yin and yang in Chinese spirituality. How else do you explain his many notable achievements and then Monica Lewinsky? Another way to look at it is the Christian duality of good and evil--which side he must learn to control is clear in this election, especially when so much is at stake! Clinton should be careful--because what he does now in the Democratic Party will affect how his wife would be received by key constituencies that could help make Hillary's dream of becoming first woman President clearly possible. We love Hillary—but let Bill watch his mouth! We love Bill too minus his vengeful nature and lack of discipline.
Dr. Sam
It's true. I never thought I would see the day, but as much as I despised Clinton I would give anything to replace the last three years with him.
Bill Clinton's comments were taken completely out of context and the Republicans know it. He is not in favor of keeping the tax cuts, and in that same interview he bashed the GOP Congress over the head.
The GOP has no plan for the country other than to go back to Bush on steroids. We know how well that worked the last time, and it will be even worse the next time. Say buh-bye to what is left of the middle class.
If they had any other plan, they would talk about it rather than constantly deflect with lies. Just a fact.
I know, right? Just because he said we should keep the Tax cuts....
It is funny how different Democrats feelings evolve. For example Obamas feelings about gay marriage evolved and changed over time (when he realized he was in danger of loosing some of the vote of that segment). Clintons views on Romeny changed probably after Democrats said please don't say what you really feel about Romney, we need to distort his record and scare the public so that he won't get elected. Clinton is right on the money about the tax cuts and no matter how much he wants to walk it back he made the statement. The difference between Clinton and Obama is that Clinton could actually compromise and Obama has dug in and will not. A lot of voters in the U S are actually moderates but the democrat controlled legislature and president Obama pulled the country so far to the left with their progressive policies that it caused some on the right to go the extreme. Now both parties are digging in and no one is compromising. News flash to all that don't get it. The economy is not doing that great. Employment numbers are still pretty bad, and spending more money hasn't done much to help the situation. Of course I am sure many on the left would like us to spend into oblivion, have our national debt be arond 30 trillion, help everyone in society even those who can take care of themselves and tell us what we can eat, how much soda we can drink, and tell us what we have to purchase. Since they are on the only ones who know what is best for society oh and that is what the 99% have to look forwad to. I am in the 99% and I support the GOP, I don't agree with everything they do but at least they are proposing solutions to our debt problems and they may not be sotlutions that are easy for everyone but at least it is a solution.
Republican spin meisters are grasping at straws. Clinton speculated about passing through the cuts for middle class tax payers , if republicans were not entirely stuck on obstruction and revenue destruction. Vague ruminating is all the media needed on a slow news day, when the drama of conflict was low.
Perhaps Bill will not ruminate out loud as a result of the exploitation of his comments as partisan catnip. Meanwhile, the media needs to catch up on Romney's latest string of lies. You can't keep a man honest when he is fundamentally a compulsive liar, but American citizens need to be informed as well as entertained by the media.
Seems as though people, including the journalists that cover "news" forgets that then President Bill Clinton signed into law the repeal of Depression Era banking regulations, which directly led to the artifically created housing bubble, that itself led to the Great Recession.
It was also then President Bill Clinton that saw the Internet Dot Com boom and bust.
Why anyone would listen to Bill Clinton and the supposedly sage advise when he himself was part of political manuvering that directly led the country to today's economic uncertainty and economic recession?
SLICK WILLY is why politics and alcohol don't mix. I guess he figures since Bobby Kennedy isn't around anymore he needs to fill the gap. Or better yet maybe Slick Willy has found a new job as the GOP spokesman.
Just another thing that ROMNEY and the GOP has LIED about. Don't believe me, watch the interviews again. I know that Romney and the GOP can't help themselves, it's just their nature to lie about everything that they think can help them into the presidency or actually for any reason. It's just embarrasing to listen to a bunch of suspose to be adults, that feel they have to keep lying to benefit themselves. Won't get into heaven that way boys and girls.
Obama/Biden 2012
Republicans sure love Bill 'feel your pain' Clinton? And libs don't? More and more, each passing day, libs get more pathetic. It would seem, that Odumbo needs BC to improve his dwindling chances of being re-elected. So yeah, I'll admit that republicans enjoy the ugly little lib drama. Bill smacking Ogiggles and then winking to the camera. Great fun.
I am not a fan of Bill Clinton, but I would take him back in the WH anyday over the jerk that is in there now. Clinton and Gingrich balanced the budget. He worked with a Republican Congress and went to the center. He compromised. Obama does not know the meaning of compromise. He is so far hard left and would rather let everything collapse than to work it out. A rank amateur. No surprise that Clinton can't stand Obama. That is why he is out there putting his digs in at the president and praising Romney as a "businessman with a sterling career who has crossed the qualification threshhold" for president. Wink, wink from Bill. Americans take the hint. Out with Obama.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Bill Clinton wants President Obama out of the white house almost as much as the GOP. Bill Clinton wants Hillary to be president. If Obama is reelected the democrats will lose in 2016 so Hilary's next real chance wouldn't be till at least 2020 when she will be 73.
To a conservative, like myself, Bill Clinton is a lot of things. A virulent anti-American isn't one of them though. When he points out how much of an anti-American Obama is, the right can't help but be happy to know that other people with different opinions feel the same way. The right often wonders if there is anyone on the left that still loves the Constitution, free markets and capitalism. It's like these beliefs don't exist on the left anymore. Bill Clinton at least reminds us of a time when there were a handful of Democrats that still actually liked the country.
Anything that undermines Obama's push to make us more like the abysmally failing European style of socialism is a net positive. I'd still gleefully spit in Bill's face if given the opportunity, but at least he's undermining the worst president that any nation on Earth has ever seen since humanity started to crawl out of the sea.
One of Bill Clinton's handlers from the Bilderberg Group, the Rothchilds banking have decided to stop pushing for a third party they could control in the U.S.and that they want Obama out ,that's why he is running his mouth now and the media is broadcasting it.
