Mitt Romney began invoking Bill Clinton last month on the campaign trail, lamenting that, it's too bad Barack Obama is just nothing like the former president.
Yes, the same Bill Clinton congressional Republicans pushed to impeach in the 1990s.
After Clinton's on-again, off-again messaging for President Obama, Republicans in Congress are now feeling the love, too.
Just today, NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports that Sens. John Thune, a potential vice-president pick for Romney, and Orrin Hatch took to the Senate floor to sing Bubba's praises.
Hatch went all out, invoking the 42nd president's name 10 times.
THUNE (R-SD):
"and with regard to the tax increases, I would make the same argument. the same argument actually that former president Bill Clinton has been making and that is we need to extend these tax rates; we create too much economic uncertainty out there by having this cloud out there on the horizon and that that is a real warning sign..."
Not to mention, of course, that Clinton doesn't support permanently extending the Bush tax cuts and that every Republican voted against Clinton's 1993 tax increases.
HATCH (R-UT):
"Well, it was no surprise therefore that when former President Clinton stated yesterday that we were still in a recession. Economists might say that is not technically accurate, but it is certainly how most Americans feel. What did come as a surprise, however, were President Clinton's remarks on tax-mageddon, the fiscal cliff that the nation faces at the end of this year. At least yesterday it sounded like his view was that we should do a complete 180 and race away from this cliff extending in full the tax relief extended, or enacted by President Bush and extended by President Obama in 2010." ...
"There should be no higher priority for the president and the congress than addressing these tax increases. Yesterday President Clinton seemed to agree, arguing that we should act now, not after the elections, to avoid the fiscal cliff. at a minimum, he concluded that a temporary extension of current tax relief was in order. quote -- to quote former President Clinton -- "They will probably have to put everything off until early next year. that's probably the best thing to do right now," unquote." ...
"Now, President Clinton further argued, quote, "What i think we need to do is to find some way to avoid the fiscal cliff. to avoid doing anything that would contract the economy now and then deal with what's necessary in the long-term debt-reduction plan as soon as they they can, which presumably will be after the election." Unquote." ...
"Now, channeling Gilda Radner, President Clinton tells us, never mind. President Clinton knew what he was saying. One thing I can say, knowing him as well as I do, he's a very smart man. He was making an elementary point, one that the president, President Obama, seemed to agree with when he was -- seemed to agree with when he was not running for election on a platform. President Clinton, not wanting to further undermine our economy, recommended a short-term extension of all the tax relief." ...
"This is just me now," this is President Clinton. "This is just me now. I am not speaking for the White House. You could tax me at 100%, and you wouldn't balance the budget. We are all going to have to contribute to this. If middle-class people's wages were going up again, I don't think they would object to going back to tax rates from when he was president." With due respect to our former president, I do think that he was speaking for the White House, and I do think that most Americans would object to a tax hike. That is why President Obama has decided to lay low." ...
"And if the president and his campaign team think that they can punt this issue until the fall, they are sorely mistaken. The American people will voice their displeasure with his failure to lead in November. President Clinton got it right the first time yesterday. The fiscal cliff must be addressed now. We cannot wait until later in the year."
A reminder:

Too funny!
They love to talk about Bill almost as much as how they have embraced the ideas of a socialist Europe!
Guess the Carter meme has worn itself out...
Next..?
FR: Correction Republicans love disunion.
The only thing Republicans "love" are money, oil and war.
hey ladies, don't forget, tonight's "dance night" at the union hall. they said you need to bring cash this week for buying dance tickets to pass around to the guys...your checks bounced! BTW, those union guys are up to an average of 6 beers before they have the nerve to ask any of you for a dance...but your buying the tickets is appreciated by the union boss
be sure to bring your stale popcorn from last night.
Clinton is the gift that keeps giving.
He will do anything to get his proxy into the white house.
Naaa, Clinton has a proclivity towards the fatties and the uglies.
Man's got no taste.
Funny that he is all about those darned 'Bush' tax cuts though.
What, o what will Obama do?
Call a mover?
Clinton has an agenda against Obama. Everybody knows that.
Everybody knows that Hillary was the brains behind Bill's presidency.
Hahaha, the Teapublicans only think they have something on Bill Clinton, but they don't and it will come back to bite them in the arse. But think about it, why must they try to use Clinton? Because they don't have anyone in their own Party worth a sh!t.
Ruken -- Bill is a brilliant communicator, but yes, he and Hillary both are awesome leaders. It will be sad to lose either of them one day.
Bill was also amazing at compromise. Remember the stink Republicans made about raising the corporate tax rate?
The Tea Party and that "No Tax Increase" pledge bullsh*t really ruined our country's politics. Because when you go "Oh well I signed that pledge", that effectively closes the door to any compromise whatsoever on the issue.
@True Patriot: Also, remember that health-care thing Clinton tried to get through? That was Hillary's brainchild, and the reason I said what I did in that post. I wonder how much of his Presidency was truly his and how much was hers.
Actually, as you quote Thune ....
Isn't that pretty much the exact same thing conservatives have been saying all along?
So do you really mean Clinton sure loves conservatives nowadays, or do you think that maybe Clinton is setting aside partisan games and acknowledging economic reality for the benefit of the country?
Is that really the argument?
So repubs are consistent and Clinton is talking about a pathetic record breaking situation 20 years later -what's your point?
Or are you just doing the typical NBC framing of the argument, obfuscating and marginalization?
Isn't it funny the Republicans put Bill Clinton down but don't even whisper Bush's name???? I'll take Clinton ANY day over George!!!!
Obama's problem is that he doesn't surround himself with knowledgeable support. They have no bright ideas, are always chasing after some sideshow topic to keep everyone dizzy. Clinton had a very good support team, Reagan had a great support team, Obama has some wackjobs and although he himself is very bright, you can't handle a job as POTUS all by yourself.
Not his economic advisers, at least.
Uh, greatest and longest sustained growth period in the country's history, Ruken.
Could you feel the tremors in Illinois? We did here in Michigan, I wish I could post pictures here. The Impeach Obama people (all African Americans) were outside the Livonia post office on Merriman rd. (call and Ask them) today. With a huge picture of Mr Obama with a toothbrush mustache on him. I stopped and asked them what they were affiliated with they would not readily offer up that information.

jollyoldsoul1 -- Let's see, so Scott Walker shouldn't be recalled unless he did something illegal (TBD), but the president should be impeached though there are no "high crimes and misdemeanors." Riiiight.
Yeah!
Like we're going to take the word of a convicted First Read serial liar... lol
Tell us again how you fought in Viet Nam and came home to urine filled balloons again?
Cause, I love bitch slapping that fable & YOU in the process!
This made me laugh, my husband and I were discussing the last Presidential election and I said if Hillary had been nominated I would've voted for her, my husband said "she couldn't be nominated, she already served two terms." lol
I actually voted for Clinton when I turned 18 the one and only time I ever voted democrat, I'll be voting republican this go round for obvious reasons (even if it means writing ron paul in) other than that I've never voted party
I feel so bad for these Liberals (not Democrats). It takes so little to make them happy. Hey I voted for Bill, but did not like what he did with the Cigar, (specially Cuban cigar). At least he was the first black President. Please don't call me racist now.
I also like Biting Biden, he has a bigger IQ than the President. Did you guys look at the last 10 president's IQ. You will be surprised.
Hiya Feisty- quick question, how do you know this is untrue? I know my father got spit on and things thrown at his vehicle while driving on and off post during Vietnam, my husband has been spit on when he was a recruiter in Georgia, my friend who lives in Cali gets her car spit on and things thrown at her when they drive on and off the Air Force base her husband is stationed at (I've had to send bail TWICE) so in all reality it could've happened.
Was under Clinton, not Reagan.
How selectively Republican. Clinton said that the tax cuts should be extended (temporarily) - AND - that spending should NOT be cut.
I believe most of the country recognizes that taxing the rich more will not harm the economy - since - the rich are not helping the economy.
Clinton's comments are purely political. Clinton is offering a compromise - no tax increase in exchange for no spending cuts. That hints that Clinton understands who REALLY controls Congress.
1stSGTFITZ's wife, would you support petition to end the forced socialism on our fighting men and women? I want to end the big brother single payer health care that our brave soldiers are forced into accepting. I know that most of our troops are Republican/Conservative and would much rather have private market health insurance rather than big brother footing the bill. In fact, I would love for all government workers to go into the private market, that way it takes away the hypocrisy when you say you hate big brother - leftist socialist policies, but are forced to use them yourself. It also lets you see the joys of the private market. I realize this is off topic, but wanted your thoughts.
Gosh, SGFitzs wife, given your family's history of service to this country, I certainly hope you write in Ron Paul, considering Mitt Romney spent the Vietnam War in Paris, France, and none of his five sons served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Nerm_L:
What proof do you to back that statement up? At what level of income do you defined the so-called rich?
spider-737231:
100% correct according the record books.
Ruken:
Not correct. Fortunate for W J Clinton, the Republicans took control on Congress in January 1995. The Republicans saved his Administration. 1993 and 1994 were complete disasters.
Well, at least Clinton was smart enought to work with the house/senate that he had. He was also very lucky that the dot com era exploded and it created a false "get rich quick" scheme, everybody was in on it, money was flowing from everyone and everywhere!
Much like what happened in the great depression, I remember reading about a journalist that asked a question to some man that had sold all of his stocks shortly before the "black friday" stock market crash that said "I knew it was time to get out when the boy on the streetcorner selling newspapers was talking about how he made money in the stock market". Smart man!
sirie
it's funny becuase Clinton got the Deficit Reduction passed without a single Republican vote - I wouldn't call that working together.
you mean like banks creating a false "get rich quick" scheme with the housing lending by selling toxic mortgages, and companies like AIG insuring them without having the cash to back them up but making billions from them?
Fact is, Obama is a complete failure...everything else is just spin!
Because he wasn't old enough - he graduated high school in 1976!
When caught with his fib - he claimed he never said it, unfortunately for Harry, nothing you say on the internet ever goes away...
My husband who actually served two terms knows first hand about the way the returning vets were treated.
For someone to come along and bull@!$%# about it only demeans those who put their lives on the line!
...Only if you are one of the 1%. The rest of us took it where the sun don't shine. Reagen's Presidency was the beginning of the end of the middle class.
Bill Clinton's remarks differ from the Obama administration mantra because he governed as a moderate.
There are many rumors that Bill Clinton wished Hillary would have ran against Obama during this election. There are rumors that he is seeking vengeance for the Obama campaign playing the "race card" during the 2008 primary. There are rumors that Bill feels the economy will contract over the next 4 years regardless of who wins the presidency. But, if it is Obama, he fears there will be no chance that Americans will elect a democrat to succeed Obama, thus spoiling a Hillary presidency. But, they are just rumors.
Feisty,
Looks like your call for the 63% Democrats who did not vote in 2010 to turn out yesterday fell on deaf ears. At least you tried. More than I can say about Obama who flew right over the state and didn’t stop to say a single word to rally the base and "articulate" what was at stake.
No I wouldn't, we already pay for our health care so i'm not sure what you're trying to say?
I agree Amy and that's my plan, it drives me bat @!$%# crazy that the person who should be our CINC has never served a day in his life (and that includes President Obama) I fully believe that either A) the candidate should be military or B) the role of CINC should be given to someone who's actually served make it a whole other "seat" like VP or speaker of the house.
Feisty- okay I'm not going to argue from one vets wife to another, I was born in 75 so i obviously know nothing, I kinda like the jolly old soul ;) I obviously don't spend as much time here as y'all do nor have I been here as long as y'all have so you would of course know better than me, I like most of y'all from both sides
That is your prerogative!
Yeah... I've been around here longer then you and yeah I've seen things that make me go Hmmm...
Having said that, I don't care which side of the fence you sit on, I cannot tolerate LIARS & PHONIES!
Just not in my DNA!
If you don't have any credibility - YOU have anything...
We can argue from now until a month of Sunday's, but when someone has been proven to be a serial liar, they don't have a leg to stand on & they should be called out accordingly...
Just my 0.02...
PS: Harry has a tendency to share WAAAAY to much information. I'm sure his 5th wife appreciated having her vaginal sling story published!
Or better yet, his supposed black neighbors knowing better then to bite the hand that feeds them!
Ballie
Interesting feat considering when the budget cutting took place the republicans held the majorities in both the House and Senate. This is precisely why I trust nothing you write!
DB Akron
sorry my friend: the Deficit Reduction Act of 1993 aka Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 happened during the 103rd Congress: both chambers had Dem. majority.
look it up and then get back to me to apologize
I am a fan of Bill Clinton. Voted for Him both times. Now though, I think He bears watching very carefully. I respectfully suspect the former President is demonstrating the onset of some form of dementia. I hope I am wrong. He often talks in scatter.
dave20121 -- President Obama is a moderate too, in fact many on the Left feel he is too much like Dubya.
A survey was just done on whether government should help those who can't help themselves, on protecting the environment, etc. Democrats answered almost exactly the same way as they have in years/decades past. Republicans, however moved farther to the Right by as much as 20 points.
There are rumors -- sounds like FIXED News starting a report saying "Some say..." and never backing anything up with actual names or data or gawd forbid facts.
Whaaaat ?
Republicans LOVE Mr. Clinton ? I suppose Democrats HATE Mr. Clinton from his remarks during the past week. Really got a laugh out of a post by a continuous Liberal poster Beverly in Chicago just yesterday which stated: "Bill....S.t.F.*").
No love for anyone who backs a proposal for the United Nation to "demand" a "WORLD TAX" from member Nations for World Redistribution. And that includes the SofS.
Yeah, no question. Only Carter is more stupid and comes up with more wrong or inappropriate stuff.
But count on Bill to give us a good laugh and a cringe to all Democrats that this sick bastard once was elected president of this country and still does not know what is going on.
Next - Dumbama - not any better!
all of sudden Republicans love Clinton's cigar now?
they forgot that they had tried to lynch him before.
True Patriot--President Obama is definitely "left" of President Clinton. It is true that republicans have moved "way right" but, that is not what this article is about.
Rumors are just rumors. But, the fact is that President Clinton spoke as a "centrist". His rhetoric was hardly as divisive as President Obama. In fact, Obama the candidate that spoke of unification contrasts with President Obama. If the choice was between Hillary and the President, I think most democrats would have picked Hillary.
Intentional stumbles by slick Willy is his way of telling democrats, "that is what you get for not voting to put my wife and I back in the White House"........Obama will win despite slick Willy laying down Banana peels.
If it is true, and, Clinton told Republicans that 'you have six months to save this country', then perhaps Bill Clinton really does love this country above all else.
Who would have thought.
dave20121 -- That's just your opinion. I referenced a survey about how far to the Right the rightwing has gone. Have you ever taken a political ideology test? I have over the years and score moderate leaning to the left. But a far-Right person would say I'm a bleeding heart liberal. Get it?
Back to the topic, I was finally able to watch the full context of what Bill Clinton said. He says clearly at one point that the tax cuts for the rich should not be extended, and then he references this again. In speaking about extension of the Bush tax cuts, he says "a few months" and only as a matter of negotiation--if necessary--until after the election.
The title of this article should be "Republicans sure love to LIE especially about Bill Clinton."
The FACT is Republicans know they have no leverage -- no unemployment benefits, no payroll tax cuts, nothing. All they have is to repeat the debt debacle, and one wonders if they are stupid enough to do that again. So they are trying to spin themselves into a better negotiating position, taking Clinton's "few months" and turning that into "one year," and taking the the word "extension" to mean for everyone including the richest 2% though Clinton never said this.
Jay Carney made it clear the GOP/TP are dreaming. Actually they are lying, en masse. Pitiful.
1stSGTFitz'swife - I assume that you pay for your healthcare from the EVIL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. What I mean, is that they should give you that money and allow you to buy from Blue Cross and not allow you to buy evil federal healthcare insurance. Would you support that? Then we can privatize/end Medicare as well, refund the money and let our eldery enjoy the wonders of the free market. I was just thinking if our Repulican troops would be the first to step forward and say "Hey, as a government employee, with government provided benefits, I am getting the short end of the stick, the private market needs to get in here"
@True Patriot--Actually, I watched the interview on CNBC. Bill Clinton referenced what he think should be done and what he believed was President Obama's assessment of the situation to be. He stated that the republicans wanted to make the Bush Era tax cuts permanent across the board and that he believed that to allow the Bush Era tax cuts to expire would not be good for the economy. Also, he stated that he believed that the economy was in recession already. He said that he thought that the tax cuts should be extended temporarily and that spending cuts should wait until after the economy is healthy.
Clearly, there is a difference between Bill Clinton's opinion and the Obama administration talking points. I have watched Bill Clinton long before he was president and he is not afraid to share his opinion even if it differs from members within his own party. I don't agree with either party on many issues and can't identify myself as a republican or a democrat, but there is something to be said for people who express their own opinions even when they differ from the party line.
First Read shilling for the Dems yet again....
You know, Republicans have warmed to Bill Clinton, kind of like how Democrats now love Ronald Reagan, and ludicrously claim he was a "moderate" who loved to raise taxes...of course back in the 80s, liberals called Reagan the same names they now call Romney: "right wing extremist" "protector of the rich" " anti-union"
If it pleases you, Reagan was a "right-wing extremist, protector of the rich, anti-union" guy and I'll add one you forgot, he was anti-government. That is exactly why it was Reagan's first term that turned me into a democrat. Anyone who paid attention during the 80's knows that many of today's right-wing ideologies go directly to Reagan, than many of our problems can be traced directly to Reagan. The only people who saw his "shining city on the hill" were those who already lived on that shining hill.
Whoa, there big fella. The Democrats do not love Reagan. They simply point out that by today's wacko Republican yard stick, he was too moderate to get elected.
That is not love. That's an observation.
Reagan was a horrible president. Next to Bush, likely the worst. It was clear he had no idea most of the time what was going on around him and my memory is not faulty, we had the same 6000 people lining up around the block for one minimum wage job we had under Bush the W. Buildings were empty with "for sale" signs and the only trickling going on was on a shrub outside the unemployment office.
mj - you can't see me but I'm bowing. Well said!
Obama/Biden 2012
"One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine." - Ronald Reagan, not sounding too far to the left to me.
Exit question of the day:
Romney is no Reagan, but Obama is Carter.
So How bad is O going to lose?
For you libbies - quick consult the exit polls. And try to interpret them correctly this time.
mj, cheers!
What I find interesting is that now the GOP praises Reagan as if he were a god but back in the late 80's, they couldn't stand him for many reasons from Grenada, Lebanon, Iran Contra, the debt, etc. and were as pleased to see his terms end as were democrats.
Romney can be Reagan, as they're both sh*t.
ruken, it must suck being a union supporter these days.
If that's true, I wouldn't know.
Spanky-
Romney is definitely not Reagan, he is BUSH 3. Obama is not Carter.
One could only wish Obama was a Carter, who, by the way, got the more agenda items passed, than any other President in history. He was by far the most Christian President we have ever had, still doing the good work of Jesus into his golden years. If we would have followed Carter's "green" agenda then we would have lower emission vehicles and solar power would be in far greater use. We lost 30 years of alternative energy advancement thanks to Reagan.
Now I am not saying Reagan was bad, far from it. There were policies I didn't agree with, but Reagan was pro-union, he was for realistic gun control laws, he was pro-choice, and he did strive to reach across the isle to compromise with Dems. I did not like his policies with big oil, I did not like his tax policies that took more out of MY paycheck verses the wealthy. I don't work overtime to get rich, I work it because I need the money. Because of Reagan's tax policies we now are ALL taxed at a higher level on OT and commissions.
I have to vote this year for the man who I think will best defend my interests. Romoney is not that guy!! He has even said he feels corporations are people, and that people are expendable!! He says he doesn't care about the poor, and he has promised to give the uber-rich tax cuts. If tax cuts to wealthy really work then why are we experiencing the worst ecomony and highest unemployment in 15 years? Obama has only been President for 4 years. The economy was tanking the last year of the Bush Adminstration, that is a fact. When Obama inherited the Presidency, we were 4 million jobs under. That was do to tax cuts for the rich! The economy of countries like India and China improved greatly because that is where OUR job creators were creating jobs. How about instead of giving tax cuts the wealthy we actually go back to charging tariffs to companies who are IMPORTING goods back into this country!!Betcha that will create jobs in the US!! Once the CEO have to cut in to their profit margins to pay a tariffs it wouldn't make it as easy for them to exploit slave-wage countries.
Who is most likely to give the rich whatever they want, Romney! He is one of them!! He doesn't understand struggling to make it in Ameirca. He has lived a life of opulence all his life, how could he EVER relate to my living from paycheck to paycheck? He wants to be President to make his wealthy friends wealthier, the only way to do that is take wealth FROM the middle class, as in lower wages, working us to do the job of three people instead of just your own, taking away our benefits like pensions. He has already done this as a Venture Capitalist, what make you think he would do differently?
Wealth in this country right now is finite not infinite. So in order for the wealthy to increase their wealth they have to decrease OUR (middle class) wealth. With the economy barely moving the only way for the rich to get richer to TAKE what little wealth the middle class has. I am not voting for someone who is going to help the wealthy take what little I got, I'm not crazy!!
Blue- well thought out and well put!
mj-1451595:
What facts do you base that on?
blueingoregon:
I can see why you live "from paycheck to paycheck".
Jody,
Reagan, for a number of years was president of the Screen Actors Guild, a union.
The only reason he fired the air traffic controllers was they went on strike. It is against federal law for a union to go on strike. He even gave them several days to report, after reminding them that it was illegal for them to strike.
BTW, he had to fight the democrats to get tariffs and fines on the nations dumping below market cost steel on the market. Something the unions wanted.
Homer Adams, Thank you! I am proud to be part of the middle class. I work hard everyday for the company that employs me. I come from a long line of middle classers. My family and billions of families before me built this country!! Our blood, sweat and tears built this country for the East Coast to the West Coast. You think you insulted me by saying you can see why I live from paycheck to paycheck but I hold that in pride. Do I wish I was paid more fairly, of course, after all if it wasn't for me and my fellow co-workers there would be NO COMPANY! Without the hard work and dedication of the working class there would be NO Corporations for the uber rich to run. Where would the Fords be if there were no line workers? Where would the Koch Brothers be if there were no oil field workers? Abe Lincoln once said "Without labor there is no Capital."
blueinoregon
Reagan was not pro-union. It was quite the opposite. I do agree with you on romney he won't be getting my vote.
Reaganomics for one.
A high school senior (well, maybe not anymore) could tell you how stupid that idea was. We're still seeing the effects.
Tell me, where are the jobs?
Reagan and Clinton shared an important quality that I think is needed in a president - the ability to work with people that have significantly different world views than their own. Reagan and Clinton successfully worked with members of the other party to get key legislation passed, even though they had very different ideologies. Yes, there were plenty of feisty debates along the way, but they managed to find a way forward.
As an example, Clinton recently commented on Ryan's budget proposal. He started out by applauding Ryan for creating the budget and said it was a good place to start the discussion (or something similar). He then went on to say he didn't like the budget and thought it was bad for the country - but that's ok with me, since this is how you get dialogues started.
This is the quality I think is most missing in Obama. When someone disagrees with him, he often jumps to personal attacks and things like "Reps want to throw granny under the bus" instead of focusing on the issue in question. To me, it seems like Obama is so self-assured, that in his mind the only "correct" solutions are the ones he endorses.
Carter ran this country into the ground BTW..
Who comprises corporations? Yep, people.
He didn't say that at all. Taking things out of context like a standard liberal
NOBODY is proposing any tax cuts for ANYONE. Enough of this lie already
And how are we now? WORSE than we were 3.5 years ago.
Then what would happen to price increases for the products that were taxed? Yep, you guessed it! They would be passed onto the consumer.
They don't cut profit margins, they RAISE THE PRICES FOR CONSUMERS. Economics 101
Obama has too. Wake the F up.
How does someone else's wealth directly affect you? Just because someone else makes more money does NOT mean that money is coming out of your pocket.
President Clinton left the nation in sch great shape and George W. Bush promptly FUBAREd it all. No president since FDR came into the White House with the nation in worse shape than did President Obama. And Romney wants to do the same as Bush only more of it.
WeiserJG
cor·po·ra·tion
noun
1.
an association of individuals, created by law or under authority of law, having a continuous existence independent of the existences of its members, and powers and liabilities distinct from those of its members.
Corporations are a legal definition, they have no existience outside of a legal definitions. Yes, people own coporations, they work for corporations, but CORPORATIONS are not people.
Mr. Romney urged reporters to do, his statement seems more benign: “I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. .”
Romney would continue the tax cuts for the wealthy
Actually I think we are better than we were 3.5 years ago. Everyone I know who was unemployed 3 years ago is now employed. The company I work for who had a hiring freeze for almost two years has just hired new people. We would be in much better shape if the Republicans weren't saying "NO" to everything!!!!!!! Obama has even put forth some very "conservative"purposals that you guessed it, the Repbublicans have actually voted against!! They voted AGAINST increasing the funding to the SBA in a time when helping small businesses would help this country!! They voted AGAINST giving companies that "build" in America tax breaks!! The repubublicans voted AGAINST ending tax cuts to companies that off-shore production. Doing one if not all of these things would have help create jobs and grow the economy, so it is the REPUBLICANS we can thank for the economic slow down, NOT Obama!!
Free market dictates that if a companywho off-shores production of a product and has to pay a tariff to bring it back in to this country, and passed the cost to the consumer will soon not have any consumers!! It would even create industry that can build it here in this country for less and sell it cheaper to the consumers.
Your right it is a choice between the lesser of two evils. But the Bible tells me that Romney is more evil than Obama so I have to vote for Obama!!
I don't get why you folks so hate this country and it's people. Why do you take the side of a corporation who would sell you out to the Chinese in a heartbeat? Talk about Communist loving, anti-americans. How many of OUR corporations have move their production to a COMMUNIST country. How does that sit with you Patriots?
Those corporations are throwing billions of dollars into a Communist market that the dictator will only funnel into his military to one day USE against the United States. Meanwhile the USA is straving because of these traitors. What about all you right to lifers? How can you stand the fact that China has FORCED ABORTIONS!! Oh its okay to yell at American women but you support and defend American Corporations doing business in China? That's pretty hypocritial!! Or do you just feel that white American unborn babies are worth the effort to save?
Set them up, Bill! Then expose them for what they are! Liars, thieves and ONE HUGE MONARCHY that has MADE SLAVES of the 99% American People!
The same people that made them successful! And, that's how they treat them! Nothing but CAPITALISTS who don't give a damn about anything except the dollar bill & their stockholders!
99% American People, vote 100% STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC, the lives you save WILL be YOURS & your CHILDREN! Let's rid ourselves of these corrupt Republican corporate "HAND-PICKED" political puppets like exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH & John Bonehead!
Generalize much? WOW
"TR" Rose II,
Its scary that someone like you makes up our voting block. When someone blindly follows a party without thought and insight. Who expounds on the 99% like they even remotely think like you. The whole 99% crowd , the protesters, and your ideology don't even come close to representing what majority of Americans think. The protesters represent what most people disdain in the country, parasites, Hippie want to be's, who have no respect for the law, this country, or the true American way of life.
Your simple mind thinks that one side is paid for by corporations while the other is not. You think that one side is supported by Venture capitalists while the other is not(just google blackstone/fundraisers) you will see your Democratic President associated with them. But hey its only Republicans..... ohh simple one. You might want to look at corporations that support this current President as well. You might want to see who are the wealthest people in Congress...majority are Democrats!! More of them are the 1%... but hey why research... why reason...why think...it make life easier that way.
I believe most Americans try and analize the issues, try and read the character of the the man running and what he stands for, I believe there are people like you that blindly like sheep...follow a party. We are good, they are evil, is your only thought process. Maybe because it would take to much work, thought, and intelligence to think different.
I can't see that backfire on em'.
I realize First Read is just reporting what it being discussed on the beltway but seriously, is this all the media has to do; stir the non-troversy pot. Anyone else wonder why the media spends so much time looking for some tiny separation between former President Clinton and President Obama? If it isn't Clinton, it's Cory Booker or Duval Patrick or ??? I doubt many people really give a hoot whether Clinton says this or disagrees with that but here we are discussing it.
If the media insists on ignoring what voters really care about, then how about a report on Mitt Romney's fundraiser in Texas last night at the mansion of a multi-millionaire who seems to like Hitler, owns two of his paintings and some other original Hitler stuff. He could be a neo-Nazi or something for all we know or just some kook who liked the paintings. It has about as much relevance as whether or not Clinton said this different from Obama.
Oh, well, I guess it really is the silly season in politics.
Very good point Jody.
And to answer your question, the media outlets are owned by the same Big Business that bought the election in Wisconsin and yearns in their teeny tiny little minds to ram their agenda home.
Of course when the quarter ends and no one is buying because no one has a job, and the water is so polluted with oil and natural gas you can set it on fire and nothing will grow in the fields because we're watering with Brawndo(it's got electrolytes!)...
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/bashir-airs-damaging-clip-of-romney-saying-a-blind-trust-is-an-age-old-ruse/
Willard tells us all, blind trusts...not so blind afterall! Willard, what about the money off-shore? Tell us more!
mj, also good points.
I saw where GOP Sen Jim Inhoffe is trying to pass legislation to prevent the Pentagon from going green; he wants to require the military continue to purchase oil and natural gas to meet their needs instead of looking to the future. Inhoffe, one of the same yelpers about dependency on the middle east seems determined to keep us dependent on the middle east. Of course, Inhoffe is one of the top recipients of oil and gas campaign cash!
You guys only like the media when it suits you. You would prefer they go away for a few days until yesterday is forgotten. Lake Michigan is still rippling from the Wisconsin thunder.....our legislature and Gov. are re-invigorated.
Actually jOS i really just do not like you . You lie a lot about stuff. So i never take your Spew as true . Sorry for ya . actually not .
Jody,
Or why our media ignors the fact that our President attended and signed on to the Socialist/Communist party as their candidate in 1999. Why this Presidents major accomplishment as a junior legislature was to vote Present all the time. Why a great number of the green jobs companies like Solyndra and its benefactors were also big time donners to President Obamas campaign. Why the head of the DOJ while being grilled by a congressional committee..sights garbage men, antique dealers, etc as counted in the green jobs numbers which so tries to inflate the numbers. The media is growing weary of this emporer with no clothes....and when they do.... they turn on their own.
Republicans can try to twist Clinton's words and pretend to praise him, but it all sounds like a yapping poodle trying to bite one of President Obama's shoes. That pointless noise will end when the debates begin. I for one am looking forward to the whimpering coming from the morons on the right. They will have to go to the corner and be content with licking themselves.
Good visual, yapping poodle. Wonder if republicans realize how foolish they look praising Bill Clinton when they spent nearly 8 years looking under every rock for something to investigate wasting millions of taxpayer dollars in the process.
a yapping poodle around the POTUS' shoes is on that night's dinner menu. I guarantee, that little yapper would be soon wishing he were on top of mitt's limosine!
hey jody...when it comes to wasting tax payer's dollars, who's paying the tab in wisconsin...could it be the taxpayer's? your hypocrisy slip is showing.
greenbear, sorry, that dog won't hunt; nice try though to change the subject.
a yapping poodle around the POTUS' shoes is on that night's dinner menu
Mama bear not giving you any lovin at home buddy?
The Republicans are loving Clinton now because he suggested that the Bush Tax Cuts be extended into early 2013. What a gain that would be for the Republicans. NOT.
President Clinton knows that the Bush Tax Cuts are history. When President Obama wins in November the House of representitives will try to pass a bill containing a perminate extention of the tax cuts. The bill will be passed to the Senate where it will fail, if somehow it gets thru the Senate the President will not sign the bill. The Temproary Tax Cuts by President Bush are history.
Funny --- republicans hated President Clinton now they just about worship him. They swooned over George W. Bush -- some even saying that he was the greatest president of all times back in 2006 -- but now they want us to forget he ever existed. It just goes to prove that these brain dead republicans don'y know what they want.
Clinton is easy-going, yet pragmatic in that he usually says exactly what he feels (except re Monica Lewinski).
Just a reminder....Bill Clinton dislikes BO....that is why he wanted Hillary to run in '08!
Robin, Hillary Clinton had already long planned to run before Barack Obama ever gave the idea thought. Clinton preferred his wife win, naturally, and no doubt he had hurt feelings that she didn't win but he is a loyal democrat and knows when to put aside past disagreements; he does not dislike President Obama, Clinton just wishes Hillary had won--big difference.
I have to agree with Jody here, heck I wish Hillary had won.
Jody, I just wonder what analysis you read on Bill Clinton...he is in the extreme passive aggressive when it comes to Obama. He showed those same qualities toward Ken Starr. There is no love between the two of them...both have egos that go beyond rational thinking that excludes the other. If you think Bill Clinton is making slips of the tongue when discussing Obama's policies, then you have to admit that Bill has lost his edge and is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He doesn't make mistakes...everything is calculated to the nth degree
Ken Starr wasted Several Millions of OUR money On Orders from Newton Gingrinch . Forget ken starr and snewt .
President Obama is the best thing that ever happened to President Clinton
including Monica?
If Clinton had pulled the trigger when the CIA had bin Laden in its sights, we wouldn't be in this mess.
That's like saying if Bush hadn't ignored the warnings of an imminent al-Qaida attack, we wouldn't be in this mess.
Actually, it is like saying what I said.
I think it's like saying how we could play what ifs all f*cking day and it doesn't change a damn thing.
OBL is dead, keep the traffic moving
.
Bah you edited.
Hilary 2016
If one hopes to be seen as being credible then one must try to behave in a credible way. When Clinton speaks he does try to stay objective as he constructs the basis for his premise.
Unlike some that post here, Clinton doesn't try to vilify Romney when he describes him. He pays Romney his due. But once done, he reminds us that even though Romney has wonderful qualifications to do some things they are not the qualifications the country needs in a President. Clinton acknowledges that Romney has skills because he does. But then goes on to differentiate between the skills associated with an individual that serves the needs of venture capitalists vs. those associated with one who serves the needs of the public.
campdog,
sense and sensibility in two sharp, concise and edifying paragraphs. if you are a civics professor and thus are talented enough and theoretically obligated to post in this fashion, continue to do so sir.
but if not, please revert to trash talking, it's what seems to be more understood around this neighborhood. all kidding aside...I did find your post refreshing
I'll simply add that President Clinton isn't running for re-election; therefore, he doesn't have to play politics. I've also heard President Obama say nice things about Mitt Romney including his success at Bain Capital. Mitt Romney spends every day attacking and villifying President Obama, it stands to reason that President Obama isn't going to just stand there and smile without hitting back.
Not to quibble your point, Jody but Clinton IS running for re-election, just not his own. And of course he is being political as he skilfully employs tactics to sway the opinion of the citizenry to produce a democratically derived result.
I totally agree that Obama must answer the absurd allegations brought forth by the right but it is far more effective when a respected statesman can expend his political capital to add value to Obama's cause as he systematically lays out the oppositions arguments and then uses common sense to destroy them. Clinton is very good at doing just that. And when he does, nobody on the other team thinks he is playing.
He just wants Hillary to start getting her hair done and wearing makeup again. For Free!
I want a chicken sandwich.
...
...
And some waffle fries.
jollyoldsoul1:
Why do you state for free?
SeekingInsanity, who writes,
Have I ever call you and IDIOT? I guess that you will call all those that voted NOT to recall Walker, Idiots. Why don't you find out what was the % of democrats that voted for Walker, of course according to your logic they are also Idiots.
You are a pathetic little boy, I can imagine how much you hurt from yesterday. Come mierda!
CC, I've seen you post your fair share of namecalling so please, spare us the poutrage. FYI, I've been posting on FR since late 2008 and one thing I know, you better develop thick skin because conservatives have called me far worse than idiot. It would be grand if everyone was civil at all times but before accusing liberals of being the guilty ones, you best start reading some of what conservatives post. Have a nice day, Concern Citizen.
No thanks I don't eat at Burger King.
Jody - I just got through reading several of CC's posts where she derides everyone so I guess it's allowed for her but no one else!
President Clinton and President Obama get along very well. Of course Clinton wishes Hillary was President but - maybe next time - in 2016!
Obama/Biden 2012
I really do not get the feeling there is any love lost between these two. From what I have read, I don't think they get along "very well".
I like Bill Clinton personally and can not stand Mitt Romney personally. Neither feeling will affect my vote.
Just goes to show you that Obama can even make Clinton look good
Uh...
....
....
really?
Yeah, those eight years of peace and prosperity ending with a couple years of a balanced budget and an economic surplus, that was really bad for America huh Steve? Good thing you guys brought in dubya to straighten us out.
You know, there was a time when "conservative" didn't mean a delusional, selfish as hell, ill-informed, borderline crazy person. I used to think of myself as one. Not now, I don't want any part of that nonsense. I think of Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachman when I hear "conservative" today.
Upset -
Regarding the second paragraph of your post - that is actually a part of the problem at this point.
Your preception of ALL conservatives is colored by Bachmann and Santorum - two conservatives that even give me, a conservative, the heebie jeebies. This would be much like me coloring all liberals with the same brush as I would use to color folks such as Kennedy.
Not all conservatives are delusional, selfish as hell, ill informed boderline crazy, any more than all liberals are hate the rich, wealth redistributing tree huggers.
Bill Clinton stated very clearly that a Romney presidency would be "calamitous" for America and the world as a whole. I guess they're not cherry-picking that little tid-bit are they?
Bill praised Romney one day, and the next day his views "evolved" just as most views that Democrats do not seem to like.
With Hillary expecting to compete for the Democratic nomination , Bill needs to do the party loyalty thing or kill her chances.
Hatch thinks America has no memory (and he may be right). On August 17, 1998, Hatch referred to President Clinton as a "jerk". Real nice decorrum and gentlemanly conduct from the "distinguished" Senator. Clinton is a rock star and President Obama deserves Clinton's masterful word-smithing. If the CONS want to get mired in nuance, they should go ahead and knock themselves out. We Dems have found out that most of America won't pay attention to the minor twists and turns of spin. The message that will resonate: A Romney presidency would be calamitous to the U.S. and the world.
Republicans sure love Bill Clinton nowadays
I submit this as my offering of the most over-reaching and absurd headline of the month! I. Cannot.
Stop. Laughing!!!!!
But clinton's a democrat. He can say whatever he wants to. He is not a member of the gop. Where if you don't fall in line, mr grover will run a candidate against you. Members of your own party will be against you. It's their threat. And mr grover likes to display his scalp, i mean the time when he had bush #1 defeated because he wasn't marching to the gop drummer.
And clinton is understandably setting his wife for the precedence in 2016. Obama refuses to pick her as his vp so this is a price he has to pay. According to the democratic traditions.
But from the standpoint of democrats, you can see why hillary lost to obama. It's because of the disagreements between clinton and obama. The democrats long ago picked obama over clinton and would do it again. Clinton is appeasing the gop when the gop take no prisoners. He will find that out when hillary actually runs for president. That the gop are uncompromising. Moving the country ahead is all but impossible according to cnn.
'Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party. The GOP has become an insurgent outlier in American politics. It is ideologically extreme; scornful of compromise; unmoved by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition. It makes it nearly impossible for the political system to deal constructively with the country's challenges.'
Mr grover, the gop, & the rushbo. The party of NO.
There is partisan politics on both sides and I believe the GOP would compromise with a better president, like Clinton, just as George Bush compromised with Democrats to pass bipartisan legislation.
Obama is no Clinton or Bush and creates his own problems by only badmouthing the other party constantly. Obama is a great orator and can motivate large crowds where he can treat the audience as only a "black box" , but seems to have very poor interpersonal skills dealing face to face with people.
Democrats in Congress complain he does not communicate with them either. Some of his advisors quit since he does not communicate with them. From what I can see, he brings on his own problems.
Marshal,
Are you stating that Gov. Romney was the choice of "Mr. grover, the gop, & the rushbo" because you know that is not true? The same goes for 2008 with Sen. McCain who again was not the choice of the far right, so this shows that the people mentioned have really very little to do with how Republicans vote.
Slick Willie doesn't always lie. In 2008 he told us BHO had planned to use the race card in his campaign all along.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBlBIAt4YZA
Of course, Slick subsequently falsley denied that he had said it.
Let's play Machiavelli. Bill is slowing drawing the GOP into his web. If Obama switches to Hillary as VP - then what? And would happen if the SCOTUS overturns ACA and Obama's Intrade numbers crash? LBJ one of the biggest political egos ever was able to step down when he saw the writing on the wall. Then what with Hillary? It's only been since 1956 that the parties' nominees were more or less a certainty before their conventions. Plus, as I noted elsewhere, nuance escapes the GOP and the MSM. Clinton was saying that tax reform had to be discussed as a total package. Entitlements, deficits, defense and taxes cannot be done piecemeal as the GOP wants to do.
Bill's great, no two ways about it. He still owes me $50 from our last poker game, but I'm in no rush.
As for his taste in women... very much like his taste in cigars... but his fiscal planning, foreign policies... I wouldn't complain about seeing him as our nation's first First Man.
I have always wondered what percentage of the Americans that voted for Obama instead of Hillary in the 2008 primaries, now wishes they had elected Hillary as their Presidential candidate? That would make for an interesting Exit Poll.
It's true. As a conservative, Obama makes me actually miss Bill Clinton as President...at times I would even prefer Carter over Obama.
At least Clinton could see the hand writing on the wall and compromise to avoid a bad outcome, Obama doesn't have a clue
Don't deminish Obama's accomplishments. Because of Obama, the American people have awaken. He gave us the biggest House gain in 72 years, He gave us the Tea Party, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, John Boozman, Ron Johnson, John Thune, Nikki Haley, Mike Lee, Scott Brown, John Kasich, Robert McDonnell, Rand Paul and Kelly Ayott.
Gone is Blanche Lincoln, Barney Frank, Bev Perdue, Evan Bayh, Russ Feingold, Joe Sestak, Chris Dodd, Ben Nelson, Patrick Kennedy and Byron Dorgan.
I have always wondered what percentage of morons that voted for Bush II have sex with their sister and now wish Mitt was their lover?
Stop being sick you have need to get some help! Bubba was a leader he had a plan and he knew what he wanted! Barry doesn't understand the economy I mean all those socialistic nations of Europe have failed so we elect a socialist!(how dumb is that, well most libs don't have a clue) Bubba knows the economy needs capitialism to survive!(by the way bubba help put this housing crisis together not Bush)
