Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice answers questions from reporters at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss.
ShePAC, the political action committee that debuted in February to help elect Republican women, announced Rice’s first-ever political fundraiser in Washington, D.C., Tuesday morning in an email to supporters with the headline: "Condi's Coming To Washington."
Rice, who has been mentioned as a dark horse choice for GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential slot, will speak at the Capitol Hill Club June 25.
All 29 Republican female members of Congress and nearly two-dozen female candidates running in the 2012 cycle have been invited to attend the evening fundraiser. Sources say Rice will give a private foreign policy briefing for those who attend.
Tickets to the “DC Kickoff Reception” range from a mere $250 to $50,000 per person.
This event also marks the first ever fundraiser for ShePAC -- Supporting, Honoring & Electing Republican women. The group has endorsed such candidates this year as Deb Fischer (NE), Mia Love (UT), and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (WI).

But I doubt if Condi will accept VP if offered.
Actually, Condi has a LOT of baggage. She admitted she was told - prior to 9/11 - that we would be attacked by our airlines but said the administration chose to keep it quiet because they didn't know how the attack would take place and they didn't want to cause panic. Really????
And, she was told by the CIA that the metal tubing Bush said was for WMD's could not be used for such a use but she chose to keep it quiet.
She is NO expert at doing anything but what she's told.

SeekingSanity - It is easy to play armchair quarterback after 9/11, yet the National Security team were flooded with statements claiming this attack or that attack would happen, and sending a broadwave about 'possible' use of airlines in a terrorist attack would have had massive panic implications that would not have served the best interests of the nation, or the airline corporations at that time (who were already starting to struggle economically and this could have been the proverbial straw that broke their back). Look into the founder of Seal Team six's books (Richard Marcinko is his name, and Rogue Warrior is the name of his series), and he'll show you how pointing out how a terrorist could infiltrate and bomb nuclear facilities, shipyards, and other military installations gets you a one way ticket to the stockade. The military industrial complex doesn't appreciate people pointing out their wrongs or incompetence.
i'm very tired of the constant attacks on people in efforts to discredit them. She has made mistakes, as have we all. But Miss Rice is intelligent, eloquent, and i struggle to envision her not learning from the mistakes she made, and subsequently repeating them. She would definitely give Romney more foreign policy experience that he currently has, or any other VP candidate could offer, unless Powell could be persuaded to join the ticket (which i consider unlikely). Or i suppose there are those that think being able to see Russia from your house is foreign policy experience...
Amy, it is difficult to have successes when you are forced to promote untenable policies, particularly when those giving the orders aren't interested in your arguments against their chosen course of action. She took orders and executed them to the best of her ability, and that is exactly what she was selected for in the first place. Do i wish she would have stood up for what she knew was right, even if it cost her politically? yes. Can i understand why she would choose to do the job given to her in order to pad her resume for future opportunities? yes. We have the luxury of hindsight when casting judgement now, but i can't honestly say i'd have done anything different in her shoes at the time.
Name calling and attempting to discredit people is a turn off, period. Why do you think that the election of 2008 worked out the way it did? Because one side did little except try to demonize their opponent, and the other side pitched a new vision for a 21st century America. i can only hope that the president's team remember that before going into 'swift boat' tactics exclusively and sinking to the level of their opposition. i've been reading through 'The audacity of hope' recently, and the one thing that struck me is how the President has stayed true to the ideals that he promoted throughout that book, forcing me to change my belief that the power elite in Washington have changed him, or beaten him down. Those ideals are what drew the electorate to him, and promoting them are his only chance of victory in November. Carpet bombing the opposition won't win elections anymore, the American electorate is tired of that tactic.

Condie Rice is no ignorant sort of person. She did what few women, especially women of color, have accomplished. Her baggage with that is that she was part of the GW Bush Administration, certainly noting to be proud of, but one does what one must and roll with pigs if necessary to get ahead. Dr. Rice is well known on the Stanford Campus. She was one of the few in the Bush Aministration with any real brains. If she knew about the 9/11 incident in advance it wasn't her place to say anything. Like any good employee they cover for the boss. Her lack of accomplishment as Secretary of State wasn't due to her incapabilities but because of who she was working for. Bush has to be the most incompetet President the US has ever had. Someone mentioned they knew about the attacks from within. Perhaps they did, after all the Clinton Administration passed down all they had on AlQaeda and Islamic militans but were virtually ignore, so one can but wonder why the military din't respond but were actually on stand down and why figter jets came from so far away to check things out after the fact rather than to intercept. Yes, there are and will always be questions about everything that did and didn't happen on 9/11/01 but all- in- all Rice will not be seen as all that bad.

Condi Rice came from the Russian Desk of the State Department and looked at foreign policy thru lens of the cold war. Black and white foreign policy decisions don't play well in a world that is multidimensional.
The difference between Condi Rice and Colin Powell is very simple. General Powell RESIGNED with class and dignity when he disagreed with President Bush. Condi Rice chose to stay on with the full knowledge of the consequences of her actions. After all she was "only following orders." Sound familiar?
Condi Rice kowtowed to Bush every chance she had. She showed no backbone - no spine and was useless as Secretary of State. She had the opportunity to do what no woman had done before - be a great Secretary of State and she totally blew it. She is a disgrace and should keep teaching - as that is something she can do without ruffling feathers.
We don't need her back in politics.

The problem with Condi and George II was that they took too long to realize how paranoid Darth Cheney was. They looked to him for guidance because of his experience in George I admin. George I got us out of the gulf because he knew what would happen, Darth Cheney got us back in because he thought he knew better but was proven wrong.

There were reports that stated there was a possible terrorist attack through airlines that came in prior to 9/11. However, there were no specifics or dates given, and sending a broadwave to the world about this would have catastrophic consequences on the airline industry in their estimation. This is fairly well documented, not "lies lies lies." i'm fairly certain that Israel pulled all of their people out of the WTC in the beginning of September 2001 due to this information, which suggests that they had better intel on the subject than we did, but i can't be bothered to look for a credible source to back that up at the moment.

Here is just one of her accomplishes fools. In October 2008, one of Rice's most successful negotiations came to fruition, with the signing of the U.S.-India Agreement for Cooperation Concerning Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy (123 Agreement), which would allow civil nuclear trade between the two countries.

We will sorely miss Olympia Snowe in Maine. She and Susan Collins were most effective at bringing pork into that fair state and have been a somewhat muted voice of reason in the senate. One has to wonder how much pressure the republican party put on her to drive her to retire.

This is off topic, and I didn't post it above because your comment was taken down along with the rest of the thread where you replied, so I hope you get to see it here. I didn't get a chance to thank you before I left over Memorial Day weekend for your kind words on the 5/25 "The Week Ahead" thread. I know we disagree on many things politically speaking, but that was a very classy thing to do.
For the Bob Joneses and Damage 123s and hueydrivers out there, you could learn from thetotas' example. All I had done was post a song about WW1 veterans in honor of Memorial Day, and I asked everyone here for their thoughts and prayers as I traveled down to Florida, where my ailing 80-year-old mother was in the ICU. My only mention of politics was to ask that we all remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and that it was not a time for, as the song said, "Man's blind indifference to his fellow man".
For that offense, my post was collapsed by the "community".
If someone here could explain why they felt that level of cruelty was called for, I'm listening.

I thought that almost everyone across the political spectrum could agree that Condoleezza Rice is a truly admirable person. Apparently I was wrong. From the number of unjustified insults the left wing is spewing about her, I can only conclude that they are very, very scared of her re-entry into politics.

Kannin - no one is afraid of Condoleeza Rice. She did herself in when she worked for Bush. She is not leadership material and will do well to stay in the University community where she apparently does just fine.

He doesn't want organized labor so he can put more money in his pocket. I say that we cut all pay in half for anyone holding an elected office because they are being paid to much. I see nothing wrong with workers having representation.
How about we return elected officials including President back to civil servants who work out of civic duty and for a living wage determined by current standards (A living wageis a decent wage. It affords the earner and her or his family the most basic costs of living without need for government support or poverty programs) throw in health benefits equal to medicare. All office cost and official travel paid by the Government using commercial airlines except for the President. Call it a perk of the office. Trips home during breaks are at their expense not the public. Make lobbiest illegal or any payments or perks by corporations to elected officials also illlegal. Reduce election seasons to 4 months with only public funds no private money or superpacs. Also once out of politics no return policy, we do not need any members of a past administration returning to the picture, it just muddies the water.
The initial reasoning behind congressional pay and benefits being above and beyond was to prevent corruption. If they were paid better than the average citizen, they wouldn't be prone to succumb to the under the table money and benefits from outside sources was the theory. The culture of greed in this country has caused this theory to fail, but should we cut the salaries then the graft may become more blatant. Perhaps invoke a statute stating that any elected official caught in corruption would be tried as a traitor to the state. life in prison for a few would stop it quick...
Lobbyists serve a purpose in our form of government, else it would be difficult for our representatives to divvy out public funds to worthy projects outside their own realm of expertise. As much i think lobbying is a cause of part of the partisan divide in our government, removing them entirely could have disastrous effects that we currently don't understand being outside the system.
i'm right with you on the election season shortening and funding. Allow each candidate to have a govt. sponsored website that they can post their platforms on, set up forums for them to interact with their constituents, and get money out of the equation. allow no television or radio political advertising except for the week prior to the election, and it would effectively eliminate negative campaigning.
i disagree with the no return policy, but i'm saddened that politician now seems to be a career path instead of a term of service...
