“President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats are courting female voters by pushing a bill that calls for equal pay in the workplace,” the AP writes. “The bill would require companies to show that differences in wages are not based on gender. It also would prohibit retaliation against employees who reveal their own wages or seek details about their employers' pay policies. Republicans say the legislation would place unnecessary burdens on businesses. The measure is not expected to win the 60 votes needed to advance Tuesday. It is a device Democrats are using to try to protect their political advantage among critical women voters in this year's presidential and congressional elections.”

equality under the law
Republican 'War on Women' should be stopped.
Chicken $hit Romney will not confirm or deny if he is for the law.
Scott Brown of Massachusetts at least comes out and admits he's not going to vote for this law.
Romney is NOT trustworthy, but more importantly the man has no core, no leadership, nada. It's hard to understand why any rightwinger would support him, let alone Independents or progressives (or women of any ideology). If Romney came out in favor of what should be a no-brainer, and made calls to members of his Party to vote for this law, imagine the game changer this would have been?
He'll try to be the generic alternative as long as he can to win, and then gawd help us if he wins. The rightwing think they will just force Romney to do their bidding. What has the GOP come to? Get candidates worth a sh!t people, that's what you should be doing. Wow, just wow.

and that will hurt Brown a little here in the liberal country but at least he's got balls - something that Romney never had.
The GOP war on common sense should be stopped.
The plutocratic take over of our Government should be stopped.
I can't think of one good reason women should be paid less than a man for the same work, but then again I am one of those union thug types that believe all workers should be paid a decent living wage, have health insurance, a retirement plan, and a relatively safe work environment.
The tea people Koch republicans believe, workers should work for nothing but a few bread crumbs thrown to them from their masters, have no health insurance, no retirement and if you get killed in the work place well that's to bad, we'll just replace you with another of our minions.
United you bargain divided you beg.
It seems that Republicans believe Democrats must behave just like they do - Republicans promote bills with the agenda of getting payback from the top 1%, so when Democrats promote bills that support the rights of a "minority" population (although women are hardly that) in the minds of Republicans it must be for self-serving reasons.
Don't we already have this? Is another law the answer, or perhaps we should start enforcing the laws that we have, strictly, fairly, universally. What the heck does equal opportunity employment mean, if not embodied in the existing law that every individual, qualified to do the same job, be paid the same wages for that job within the same company framework? I understand rewarding a long term employee with a higher salary than a newly hired person who has yet to prove themselves. Face it, if a white employee and a black employee were to have the exact same job description, the same amount of seniority in the company, the same schedule and duties, and the black employee were to be paid lesser than his white counterpart, they would be instantly off to the courts for racism. If one employee was in their 40's and another in their 30's and the pay rates were disparate, it would be grounds for ageism. A person making an offhanded, joking remark to nobody in particular can be brought into court for sexual harassment.....so, why can't we use the laws already in existence to insure equal pay for all. You do the work, and you get the check. Doesn't seem like government needs to be spending alot of time, and alot of our tax dollars to create yet more laws and regulations when proper enforcement of the laws we have should be able to provide solution. I would think that women being paid less than men for the same job with the same credentials would constitute a hostile work environment and come under the heading of sexual harassment legislation. And as so many, who contribute to these threads seem to believe, assert that sexism, racism, reverse bigotry, hate crimes, ageism all are existing and thriving, then what is the point of further legislation, because what we have isn't making a hill of difference?
Romney once again demonstrates political cowardice. He runs political ads featuring his wife touting how much he cares about his family. That's great, but John Dillinger cared about his family too; he just wasn't nice to anyone else. That brings me back to Romney, the sociopath; it is his caring for others that concerns me. Does this guy give one hoot about my family; the answer is no, a thousand time no!
I have lots of company. His wife told the nation of his unequivocal support as she battled severe medical issues. Romney told the wives of the rest of the nation up yours when he said, "Planned Parenthood, we'll get rid of that!" Mitt has told so many groups up yours; Latinos-self deport no method to citizenship. A purported bully of a gay man. Equal pay rights for women, up theirs. College tuition for our kids- up theirs, while he gives his own kids ten million big ones each. Romney has told so many of our wives and children up yours, that as President he would be known as the Proctologist and Chief of the United States!
It has been rumored that the artificial rigid smile on his face is a direct result of botox injections.
