Former President Bill Clinton is joining forces again with President Barak Obama and holding a series of New York fundraisers. Politico's Roger Simon discusses.
NEW YORK - After earning headlines for becoming the latest Democrat to speak positively of Mitt Romney's history in the private sector, Bill Clinton made clear exactly whose side he's on when he hit the Big Apple on Monday for three joint fundraising appearances with President Barack Obama.
Electing the Republican nominee would be "calamitous for our country and the world" Clinton said at a reception in private home where tickets went for $40,000. And at the New Amsterdam Theatre near Times Square, he said: "I don't think it's important to re-elect the president, I think it's essential to re-elect the president."
The trip came less than a week after Clinton drew headlines for becoming the most prominent Democrat to undercut the president's attacks against Romney for his time at Bain Capital. In an interview on CNN last Thursday, the former president said Romney "had a sterling business career" and described his time as an executive at a private equity firm as "good work."
And while Clinton did not walk back any of his earlier remarks, he found plenty of other ways to build a case against the former Massachusetts governor.
"They tell you how terrible this health care bill is," Clinton said of Republicans. "It's hard for them, since Gov. Romney's finest act as governor was to sign a bill with an individual mandate in it, which he has now renounced."
Clinton introduced the president at all three appearances here. Obama asked for his donors support in what he acknowledged will be a tight race, all the while maintaining that he stands for the same issues he did during his 2008 run.
"The only reason that this is going to be a close election is because people are still hurting," the president said at the theatre.
But it is a slip of the tongue at the last event that may garner the most attention from the day trip. "We are not going back to a set of politics that say you're on you're own. And that's essentially the theory of the other side. You know, George Romney," Obama said, referring to the Republican nominee's father before quickly correcting himself.
Both Romney and Obama have been working furiously to raise cash in an election that will have plenty of money influencing it aside from what the candidates rake in. Speaking before the crowd that paid at least $250 to hear a concert and two presidents, Obama addressed the role outside groups will play in this year's election.
"Sometimes when thing are tough, you just say, well you know what, I'll just keep trying something until something works. And that's compounded by $500 million in Super PAC negative ads that are going to be run over the course of the next five months," he said. "And they'll try to feed on those fears and those anxieties and that frustrations. That's basically the argument the other side is making. They're not offering anything new, they're just saying 'Things are tough right now and it's Obama's fault.' That pretty much sums it up. There's no vision for the future there."
Still, any drop in enthusiasm from his base was hard to decipher.
"I still believe in you," Obama said to the theatre crowd that interrupted him multiple times with standing ovations. "I hope you still believe in me...when people ask you what this campaign is about, tell them it's still about hope, it's still about change."

Good news liberals and Feastly, it is STILL ABOUT HOPE AND CHANGE.....hahahahahahahahaha Only an idiot would fall for that again...... He could have fooled all of them if he said it is about change and hope......
Anybody would be better than Obama. He cannot run on his record. That is why you will hear these things repeated over and over and over again this fall. They are:
1) "If we hadn't done that, things would have been much much worse."
2) "Look at all the jobs that were created or saved (new fuzzy math)."
3) "Look at what I inherited (and after almost 4 years have done nothing about)."
4) "...if we all paid our fair share (as if we don't) (and Romney has already pointed out that drastically increasing taxes on the rich will only pay for @ 11 hours of government ---- per year)."
There are many, many more excuses out there, but these are the top 4 Obama will use this fall to try to get your vote.
Obama in a landslide...
Yeah I know what the polls seem to say, and I know what is being reported...What is being ignored is the fact that as totally inept and biased as our "News" media has become, it is still a for profit Business, and with literally trillions worth of campaign adds at stake, the very last thing they will allow is the appearance of a runaway election, because both sides will stop spending money...
In Mid October, when the Media's bank accounts are full, they will all revert to what they do best...lies and deception for political gain...Then Obama will be King of Kings again, Roses will grow between his toes...and Romney will drop like a stone
I kinda want Romney to win just because he would really @!$%# things up and then people would hopefully lose faith in both parties.
hungrymongoose
The Republicans have pushed policies - austerity and firing government workers wholesale in a recession - designed to cause the President to fail. They filibustered Congress into gridlock. Now people like you are falling for their despicable politics of causing the country to fail so they could succeed. That is why we are suffering - they know there are many people - easily duped - around they can count on to fall for their BS and vote their way.
@Satanick
I won't matter, and I have no doubt he will...we will just end up with 4 more years of finger pointing
in the end, the Parties own the Media...correction, the people who own the parties, owns the Media...and there are plenty on both sides who believes that they are being told the "real" truth, to keep the 2 Parties afloat
I would like to remind the republicans the month that Bush left office the economy lost 800,000 jobs. This latest jobs report is dismal, yes, but at least we aren't losing jobs at the rate we did under Bush. The last quarter under Bush the economy also shrank 8%. I wish Obama was a stonger leader, I am disappointed in his first 4 years, but that doesn't mean I'll ever buy into a theory that tax cuts for the rich and cuts in benefits to the poor and middle class will ever work. They tried that under Bush and it took our economy no where.
If you are going to look at Obama and say he can't blame Bush for the problems we face now then Romney should not be able to do the same with his record as a governor. Look at the hard numbers, Romney created very little jobs as governor of Mass. and now he is of course saying he inherited a dismal economy.
Another experiment with tax cuts for the rich, deregulation in the financial sector and more cuts to benefits for the poor and lower middle classes will be a disaster.
~700 Billion dollars per year are leaving the US Economy, and there are many reasons behind that fact, but any action that is not directed at fixing that problem, is just pissing into the wind...It is why California had to have a bridge built in China and shipped to SF and saved money doing it
lots of rhetoric out there-romney is a puppet and obama(while i think he's done a poor job) is not. enough said
Think about it: Why is the jobs record as bad as it is? Its the public sector job that is the problem. Where is that most evident? In the republican-led states. Is that surprising when from day 1 the aim was to make Obama fail. Party before country. These people need to get a life. Yes, its still about hope and change. We still believe in the President. And we will make it as a country. I believe that. Tough times are no reason to give up.
As jesus said look where I have brought you from,All I can say look where we were then look at the direction we are going now,and these are facts, not talking points.
Not to side track this thread, but there was a very prominent American that said of political parties, "they serve nothing more than to divide what we fought, bled, and died for...", and further went on to say, "the greatest threat to the prosperity of our nation isn't a foreign invasion, but the division from within. Political conglomerates divest the voice of the people and replace the monarchy from which we sought our freedom."
Still today, these wise words from George Washington ring true. Anytime you consider ANY candidate for public office based upon the (R) or (D) that appears next to their name on the ballot, you are divesting yourself of YOUR INHERITED Rights and Freedoms our ancestors fought and died for. Political Parties don't serve the people, they serve themselves. They are not the voices of reason, not the voice of their constituents, and certainly NOT the uncorrupt, campaign donation grabbing puppets of the special interest groups that PAY for them. And we allow it to happen when WE DO NOT hold them accountable. From both sides of the aisle, our supposed representatives that we elect, spend more of our money on their own little agendas, the rental cars, the 40k a ticket dinners, and the like smoosing those that can line their pockets the most.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY, as voters, is to educate ourselves on WHO it is we are endorsing with our vote. It is OUR RESPONSIBILITY to see through the "fluff" and the kissed babies to figure out what that man or woman really believes, and we should DEMAND those representatives do their jobs that we elect them to do. We should demand a balanced budget amendment, so that we do not have the fiscal problems we face today, and we should certainly demand TERM LIMITS on ALL POLITICIANS, to do away with these career, corrupted and power mongering types that can continue to be the puppets of the highest bidder.
As for who I am casting my vote for, IF there was a block that said NONE OF THE ABOVE, that would probably be the one I would check...
Amen...A vacant seat might finally send a message to both Parties
There was an Independent Party attempt this year to recruit a candidate for President...but they finally gave up because they couldn't find anyone that was willing to risk hurting thier party

I would like to remind the republicans the month that Bush left office the economy lost 800,000 jobs."
Crude oil was $35+USD a barrel, the national debt was at $10.7+Trillion, and only 575 US Troops had died in Afghanistan. The unemployment rate for 2008 was 5.8%...
While Obama has been POTUS; crude oil has averaged over $90+USD a barrel, the National debt is now $15.5+Trillion, and 1,200+additional US Troops have been killed in Afghanistan. The unemployment rate is currently 8.2%+ and has been over 8% for years...
Will-loved the first paragraph I was thinking the same thoughts on another story here, kind of strange. For the good of our nation and our children's future we must focus on what the candidates have accomplished and what they are saying-I have not heard anything from Romney but "glittering generalities", something I have heard way too many times. I do know this may be the most important election in the history of our country in my opinion, Romney is the perfect caricature of a pol blowing smoke up our ass for sure. What will be telling is what we the people tell congress and the senate who are up for election.
Although I'm not exactly pleased with everything Obama is and has been doing,(especially foreign policy) the thought of McCain/Palin or "Mushroom Cloud" Romney at the helm is a frightening and nauseating thought.
While all you ranters rant you miss the point of this whole news "article". ""They tell you how terrible this health care bill is," Clinton said of Republicans. "It's hard for them, since Gov. Romney's finest act as governor was to sign a bill with an individual mandate in it, which he has now renounced.""
The fact is here is the Repteallian standard bearer wearing sandals (you know- flip - flop flip-flop) that MANDATED coverage for all in Massachusetts and this self same MANDATED ACA (Obamacare) modeled after MittMutt's own plan is wrong for America. Question MittMutt: if it was good enough for Mass WHEN YOU WERE GOV. THEN WHY ISN'T IT GOOD ENOUGH FOR AMERICA?
I have yet to hear a rational explanation for the flip flop - is there anyone out their that can answer this question without a rant? I really would like to know. Perhaps I am not alone, don't know but there are a lot of voters out there.
Sorry Bill, but I really don't care what your opinion is of Romney. You had the intelligence and personality to be one of the best Presidents this country ever had, but you were more worried about what people thought of you (trial balloons on virtually everything) than doing what you thought was right and were too stupid to realize that all you had to do was give a sincere apology for fooling around with an intern instead of getting up on national television and lying to all Americans.
AC - You have a link to back up that 800K number? <crickets>
I'd like to remind Dem in Texas and the rest of the sheeple that the United States earned a Congress controlled by Democrats in November 2006. By the time Obama became President we had an economy run by Democrats for 2 years and THAT economy was shedding 750,000 jobs per month...not the economy of November 2006. Here we are, almost 4 years later, and this is still a rotten, Democrat controlled economy.
Only a welfare, drug addict would want another 4 years of this disaster. Obama OUT in a landslide 2012!
The only success Clinton had as President was based on the fiscal constraints imposed on him by the Republican take over of Congress, lead by Newt Gingrich. If not for Gingrich and his "Republican revolution"
Clinton would have spent as much as Obama on his misguided policies. But at least he did have SOME executive experience leading organizations, as the Governor of Arkansas and was and adept politician. Something we certainly don't have in this empty suit in the White House today, who's only claim to fame is that he "ran a good campaign" in 2008, and has the adoration of the sycophantic liberal media propping him up.
Clinton would never have been elected in 1992 if not for Ross Perot siphoning off 19% of the vote from George HW Bush. In both 1992 and 1996, Clinton never even got 50% of the vote from the public (43% in 1992).
.
Clinton on Romney - he'd be calamitous....
Clinton on Romney (few days ago) - he had a "sterling" record with Bain....
Which is it Billy?
Romney - The clear choice!
@Jenaan
The jobs record is as bad as it is firstly because of the housing collapse causing public sector issues, which has long been diminishing. At this point, you have many who are sitting on unemployment, collecting welfare and food stamps that are regime has deemed beneficial to the American society, with little to no deterrents to these entitlement programs to push people to start working again in the public sector. If you were getting some "Obama money" as they tend to call it here when they receive hand outs, are you going to run out and obtain a job? Many people won't.
Put some of those deterrents such as drug testing and immigrant/citizen status on those welfare forms and see how corrected the system gets.
As for your comments on Republican states, exactly where did you get that information?
Many people here have a lot of bad things to say about President Obama. The are "so smart" If only they could picture the country at the hands of the people that have been applying for the job. Never mind the parade of irrational lunacy that they have demonstrated. Mitt Romney finally got what he wanted. Every day of his "Presidency" would be a different way to look at things, and to resolve problems. What a deal!
The man has not revealed ONE thing that is consistent. He has made millions of dollars without producing ANYTHING, WHICH MEANS THAT HE RIPPED IT OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE"S HANDS.
Yeah! All of you making "smart"predictions. Let's see where you would be with a GOP President like Mitt Romney.
For those that think that neither man is good. Let's just remember one thing: We will have a President. It is up to you who that will be. Think about your own families, and decide what is the best choice, even if you think it is not that good.
enough said.
You bet it would be calumitous...for Hillary's hopes of ever being president and keeping his aging face in the spotlight. This guy is the ultimate political animal who accepts no responsibility for his bad decisions. In fact, the 2008 finiancial collapse can be traced to his getting rid of Sarbanes-Oxley...which led to allowing investment banking to leverage a bank's mortgage portfolios...the last of the banking protections that were put into place in the '30s to keep another 1929 stock market crash from occuring. Go home... Bill Clinton...to where ever you call home now.
It would be great if those that believe Willard's lies could be separated and allowed to live under his 'leadership' (whatever that might be - it is hard to tell if he actually has firm convictions on anything at all), but the sad fact is, if enough lazy fools vote for him, I get stuck with him, too.
He stands for whatever he thinks his current audience wants to hear. When he is standing in front of a Southern Baptist church, he is all for building a wall on the Mexican border. When he is in Florida, he is all for amnesty. He has been pro-abortion, and anti-abortion. He has been for medical reform, but now is against it. He hasn't worked a day in his life producing anything of value; his very limited 'business experience' consisted of chopping up companies and laying off the employees and pocketing the money. Since his first and only job in the private sector, he ran for governor, and was not a very good one, and now, he is a career political campaigner. Not exactly a glowing resume.
Bill just read the memo.
alghourd
the hope and change is not electing Bush part 2. Hey, how did Bush work out for you??? So well that no one - especially the Republicans - want to talk about him.
John-2006106
You are so misinformed it's not even funny. Clinton got the Deficit Reduction Act passed WITHOUT A SINGLE REPUBLICAN VOTE. Yes, Clinton reduced the debt, the deficit, the unemployment WITHOUT A SINGLE REPUBLICAN VOTE.
And Bush2 would have never been elected if it had not been for his little bro Jeb.
this is a sure sign of desperation from Obama, he's so scared he's siding with slippy-zipper Bill Clinton! his activity with Monica L. back in the '90's still follows him. remember another side of Bill is he support's DON'T ASK DON'T TELL=homosexual's. Obama needs someone to endorse and support his new life style, so why not bill?
It is truly mind-blowing amazing to see people ignoring Will's great post and still believing that the Republicans can change from what we had under George W..........from what.......PROMISES..........that are never kept as the rich get richer and the rest of us........keep paying to keep them in power. Look at the candidates and what they have done and not what they promise..........at least Obama kept some of his promises and if he got rid of some of his Idiot "advisers" he might have accomplished more.
This is for talk to thehand @ 1.18:
Start with this one and I have several more if you need them.
Facts are facts (but the Tea/GOP platform planks, talking point of the day, and spin are all woefully lacking in FACTS and truth.)
Our President simply is NOT the failure the RWNJ's attempt to paint him to be; Bush/Cheney was the failure.
Are any of you old enough to remember when we had a balanced federal budget with surplus? Then remember what happened to it...
Don't want that again, which is exactly what we would get with Romney....
Ron-975213
Please show me the facts behind your statement because according to economists suggests that it actually softened the blow.
Let's take AIG - the major contributor to the financial meltdown - as an example. AIG played with the CDS's like they were a child's game. AIG issued the swaps and promised to pay these institutions, counterparties, if the debt securities defaulted. Banks all over the world bought CDS protection from AIG. The AIG culture was focused on a reward system that placed little responsibility on executives who made very poor decisions and took excessive risks with credit derivatives. When $hit hit the fan, AIG dragged everyone down like a domino.
My point is that the deregulation did not cause the financial meltdown: companies like AIG did they made the very very poor choices.
By the way, the Republican motto is that corporations will REGULATE themselves, and that is why we do not need gov. regulations. Are you claiming that Republicans are totally wrong and we do need regulations because without regulations we can not trust corporations?????????
Is a calamity better than an unprecedented disaster? Everything the Big Eared Jug Headed idiot in the White House does is unprecedented, even his total failure at trying to run a country. At least he is consistent.
One really fed up boomer,
Ok, I'll explain it to you. The US Constitution, for the most part, is a set of limitations placed on what the Federal Government has the power to do. The Federal government does not have the right to penalize someone for not participating in commerce. The states do have this right. E.g. state auto insurance mandates. That's why it is fine for the State of Massachusetts to impose, for lack of a better term, Romneycare but the Federal government does not have the right to impose, on the entire country, Obamacare. So Governor Romney can support the Mass legislation and oppose the Federal PPACA and still be consistent. Plus, we don't know how Romneycare would have worked out. Mass State Democrats gutted the market oriented reforms that were in the initial legislation.
Its amazing to me..that so many have such short memories of the past before Obama..when Bush and the republicans had such fun placing this counrty into a huge debt..that Obama ended up with. JUst how far down do folks want the republicans to take this country / Is profits fopr the wealthy the only thing this country now sees as the way to go ? The forefathers of this nation have to be turning over in their many graves to see just what politicans have now done to this country by way of thier own greed and the greed of the wealthy. If...as the republicans want to do..we cut taxes again for their wealthy friends then cut out taxes altogether..for us all. Stop sending millions of our tax dollars to other nations...If we have to back up in years to make the republicans happy....then back up all the way...let folks return to taking care of their own...without having to pay for a politican who could care less about anyone other than him or herself. Lets see then just how long the "wealthy" keep their wealth then. When pay scales drop..and no one can afford the products that have made the wealthy what they are today..and people begin to help their own and their neighbors as was once the way of life....maybe then the citizens of this once great nation can make it so again.
AC Robertson
due to the Financial Meltdown - prices of oil had nothing to do with Bush then, and have nothing to do with president today.
Thanks to the recession, global demand in 2008 was actually down and global supply was up.
Before the global financial meltdown, the oil prices hit an all-time high of $145 a barrel in July 2008. This drove gas prices to $4.00 a gallon. Forgot about that one?
I'm sorry, did Bush take his mortgage + Bush mortgage interest+ 2 wars+financial meltdown+housing market collapse with him when he left the office????? Or did all that continue to free fall our economy?
The hemorrhaging of American jobs accelerated at a record pace at the end of 2008, bringing the year's total job losses to 2.6 million or the highest level in more than six decades.
U.S. Labor Department jobs report shows the economy lost 524,000 jobs in December 2008 and 1.9 million in the year's final four months, after the credit crisis began in September.
The unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in December of 2008 from 6.7% in November of 2008 - its highest rate since January 1993. Not the 5.8% you are bragging about.
Again, did this speeding train stop the minute Bush gave Obama his keys to the White House?
If you are going to make a point, at least use real figures.
Bayllie (post 1.28)
Yes, every Republican and 41 Democrats voted against the “Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993”. The bill passed the House by five votes (218-216) despite “bipartisan opposition.” It was also a 50-50 tie in the Senate, with Al Gore casting the tie-breaking vote. Certainly not a triumph of Clinton’s leadership skills now is it. It did NOTHING to reduce spending, it simply raised taxes (39.6% top rate for income tax, 35% rate for corporations). 30% corporate tax rate, Gosh, I wonder if that's partly the reason GE and so many other companies now are off shore, paying taxes to Ireland or Switzerland. Tell me Bayllie, how much of tax did GE pay last year, at the 35% rate? ZERO!
NOBODY has reduced the Debt. Are you ignorant or just obtuse? All that Clinton did was create a budget with forecasts in the 10 year POM that “projected” balancing the budget and reducing the Debt in “the out years.” Projections that proved to be fantasy.
NOBAMA 2012!
.
Mitt is a misFitt, a real rich misFit.
Republican is Repugnant (Instead of helping move the country forward, Senate Minority leader McConnell said his party's most important goal is to kick Obama out of office? AND his party will not succeed)
Aah yes because it was solely one individual who ran the debt through the ceiling. I do believe a president has existed for many more years prior to Bush and not all were Republicans.
Xaziol: The debt started in the early 1980s, when Reagan started cutting taxes, and borrowing more to pay for services. 12 years of trickle-down economics (+ voodoo economics) caused the worst debt problem in US history. Then Clinton balanced the budget. SOB (Son of Bush sr) came in and surplus disappeared. SOB's tax cut for the rich and 2 wars led to more debt and the Great Recession which led to trillions of wealth to disappear.
That's how.
Xaziol: from 1981 to 2012, Republican presidents hurt the US economy and caused debt crisis in 20 of last 32 years. In between Clinton balanced the budget; but W Bush made it worse, plus the recession also caused by his failed policies.
That's why in 2012, we should not go back to the failed policies that caused all the problems in the first place.
John-2006106
So how did Clinton do it WITH REPUBLICANS??? You just proved my point so thank you.
So how was our country doing in December of 2000? Low unemployment, low debt, balanced budget, smaller government, no wars.....as compared to December of 2008: record growing unemplyment, growing debt, growing interest on the debt, deficits, 2 unpaid wars that were OFF the books, bigger government and Social Security full of IOUs (which was not supposed to come out until like 2018)
Actually, it's more like 66% of corporations that don't pay taxes but somehow you focus on GE - I wonder why (rhetorical question). But yes, the number is like 2/3rds of corporations doing business in this great country don't pay taxes. So what is your point because we all know who does not want anything done about this.
Yes, because Bush2 came into our world: sent out rebates, started 2 wars, borrowed heavily from China and other countries to pay for the 2 wars and the Bush tax cuts, accumulated Bush mortgage interest...
NOBAMA 2012!
Haha - makes me think of George Carlin's rant on balancing the "stinkin'" budget. Clinton was by far one of the best contributors to lowering the national debt, credit where it's due, however, that doesn't change any issues concerning the debt crisis. Both Bush's created a load of issues with their war-like mongering mentality, which created a debt dilemma. However, those failed policies that you're saying Bush administered were banking regulations that flopped because they weren't being regulated properly. Now we see all the snuff going to court because of the failed or debunked accounting practices.
I'm not a fan of either one of the Bush's, nor am I a fan of Obama who thinks that he can spout off his foreign policies and make me feel some level of solace. For 2-3 years foreign policy was his regiment, and some of the mistakes he made early on are equivalent to his change in evolving gay rights.
I smell a load of BS, and I'm not saying Romney is a better choice, but I'm an American first, and my president shouldn't bow to another country's leader. He lost my respect a loooong damn time ago.
Nice walk back Bill?
Two days ago Romney was as good as anybody in their Jeans and T-shirt. Today Romney is the second coming of the Anti-Chirst.
These "little" gaffes are their to let you know these big democrat's actual opinion. It's just enough to give them cover in the future without being totaly kicked out by the establishment. One also has to wonder if the gaffes are also meant to minimize the bounce of the support they are giving to someone they really don't like.
"I hope you still believe in me...when people ask you what this campaign is about, tell them it's still about hope, it's still about change"..
Really? I don' think so, Mr. President. We all heard this your first time around. What he is asking for is another 4 years to finish the job he has yet to start. And, ex-President, Mr. Clinton endorsing? I bet he forgot what the word "calamitous" means. Ask Hillary, she will know.
We got into this mess from the policies of "trickle down" economics and "starve the beast".
You don' cut taxes and go to war twice with a mantra that "deficts don't matter". And all Republicans went along for the ride, why?
So that there would be a financial crisis so that they could cut entitlements. That's what you saw Walker do right?
And now, after their destruction, they have the nerve to blame Obama? Like the deep recession could be solved through obstruction by the Republicans party at any cost?
Romney is not the guy.
Obama/Biden 2012

And what are Republicans falling for? More tax cuts for the rich, more pay cuts for Working Americans, no health care, polluted air, contaminated drinking water, our food poisoned by more growth harmones to farm animals, and our vegetables grown in soil contaminated by nuclear run-off, all back up with a return to Republican Economic Policies that forced America and the American People into the 2nd Great Depression.
Obama/Biden 2012
BAYLLIE...please see the four part series Frontline did on the on the 2008 financial collapse...it has a nice pic of Clinton signing the bill that allowed the banks to do what they eventually did. Also, it goes into detail how inept Obama was in facing the crisis...he should have listened to Summers who wanted to play hardball with the banks, take one down and force them to refinance loans...instead he listened to Geitner and gave the banks the bailout money, no strings attached!
Romney, and the multiple things that get overlooked...
1) Remember what Romney said about JP Morgan's 3 million loss? He actually defended it saying :
What a LIE. One guy at JP Morgan was scamming investors (in the UK?), and the investors got smart to what he was doing and he lost, and lost big. One's inclination is to cheer for those investors. However, note a couple of things. JP Morgan is FDIC-insured, and had the loss been too large for the bank to handle, it would have been at the tax-payer's expense. The way Romney glossed this over, and the "values" he reveals at times is a real turn off.
2) Romney slipped and told the truth about austerity in the interview with Mark Halperin:
So Romney's proposal for a permanent spending cap at 20% of GDP (when we need to be at least 22%) is what? It's austerity!
Paul Ryan's plan to take from the poor to give to the rich is bad enough, but Romney's is even worse. A 20% (he seems stuck on that percentage) tax cut for everyone? This is what the oligarchy always does. The richest 1% propose tax cuts "for all" as a way to get a huge tax cut for themselves. In reality this would do nothing for the little guy, but would mean a 5M savings for Romney.
The biggest problem with Romney is the huge debt/deficit he would create. It's mind-bending that fiscal conservatives could embrace him if only on this one sticking point. But the man is NOT trustworthy.
Romney -- He's not in it for you.
Seeing that everything Clinton has ever said has been a lie, this is actually good news for Romney. Who cares what this creepy criminal that should be doing jail time for lying to a grand jury has to say? Clinton holds a large part of the blame for the financial crises of today...
He failed to take out Osama bin Laden when given the opportunity
He demanded that Fannie and Freddie ease lending standards so "everyone could own a house"...even if they weren't qualified
He signed Graham-Leech-Bliley undoing the constraints on banks to invest in derivitatives
He not only enacted NAFTA, but he also agreed to the WTO treaties allowing Pacific Rim free trade, sending tens of millions of our jobs overseas.
So Billy...shut the hell up! You were one of the worst presidents in the history of the United States and the primary architect of this mess today.
Excuse me, but this is a bit of nonsense. We don't believe in this president (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll)
His approval ratings, confidence, feeling that he's taking the nation in the right direction...all down the tubes. YOU may believe in him, but the majority doesn't.
What you are also missing, is that the public sector jobs are what is driving the DEMOCRATIC led states into bankrupcy. Go look at the fiscal shape of California, Illinois and New York. Do a little research on which states are gaining jobs and which ones are losing them. In the midwest, democratic led Illinois is shedding private sector jobs left and right....businesses are fleeing the state to go to Indiana and Wisconsin (republican led states).
Ron,
I'm sorry. I don't believe you told us who wrote and rounded up the votes that added that to the BUDGET OMNIBUS bill that Clinton signed that year. I'm sorry, WHO was it again?
Okay, AC, you really need to UNDERSTAND the facts instead of just spouting them out. Gas was down mainly because of the economic slump; demand was low, and since supply was high (not to mention the speculators cautious on the economy), gas prices fell down. It was an artificial fall. As for deaths in Afghanistan, the military surge managed to hammer away at the Taliban and wrest control over much of the country. I don't recall you blasting Bush for the 4,500 men lost in Iraq. And unemployment in 2008 was roughly 7.8% and rose to 10% before Obama's stimulus came into effect, which managed to lower the rate down to roughly 8.2%.
Gas prices have mainly gone up because of the flare-up with Iran that could have gone hotter had the neocons been in power. The national debt has increased mainly because of the recession and the Bush tax cuts, both caused by conservative (not necessarily Republican, but conservative nonetheless) fiscal and economic policies. Unemployment would have been roughly 7.2% had the states not laid off a half-million public-sector jobs, and our economy would be a lot stronger had Congress passed Obama's Jobs Act and the half-million public sector jobs.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012

It's still not the cause of the collapse, and if you actually pay attention to the documentary, you will see that it concentrated on the web of CDSs that cause the collapse.
If they get rid of the DUIs tomorrow, knowing that driving drunk will probably result in killing someone but since it's now legal you do it anyways. And after you kill someone - you blame the government for deregulating it?????????
Did you know that AIG push for and GOT more deregulation under Bush? Before AIG had to have 50% cash to cover the CDSs. AIG pushed for the deregulation and got it. AIG had no cash to pay out when the @!$%# hit the fan.
You did not answer my question: if regulation is so important - as you keep pointing out - why are the Republicans so adamant about deregulating everything?
I think you fell asleeep watching it becuase the blank checks with no strings attached were written in 2008 - way before Obama became the president.

Oct. 13, 2008 A Dramatic Meeting with Bankers
Paulson calls the CEOs of the nation's nine largest banks to his office -- Jamie Dimon (JPMorgan), Robert Kelly (Bank of New York/Mellon), John Thain (Merrill Lynch), Ronald Logue (State Street), John Mack (Morgan Stanley), Lloyd Blankenfein (Goldman Sachs), Ken Lewis (Bank of America), Vikram Pandit (Citigroup) and Richard Kovacevich (Wells Fargo). He tells them they each must accept billions in direct cash infusions.
The Democrat -Republican - are the same.. Its Show business & entertainment to keep the public amused.
Worth a billion + dollars to buy or lease a politician, a law an election, if so then your vote counts.
What self respecting person would vote for the lessor of two evils?
Rodger, it's because people in the U.S. don't care. I live in Europe now (still registered to vote in Texas) and I was amazed at how the presidential debates were conducted here (France). If a candidate brought to the debate something like 999 he would have been torn to bits by the other candidates, who brought detailed plans to how they would direct the economy and how they planned to pay for their ideas. Is France perfect, h€11 no, but the people don't allow for candidates to get away with vague and thoughtless ideas. And the media steers clear from questions about personal life, religion, and social issues like gay marriage and abortion. But Americans don't want that, it's boring. They need one liners and talking points to stay entertained. They want death and destruction, just like in the movies, because if they didn't get it they would just tune out, and the media would make no money. Don't blame the media for giving the people what they want, blame the people.
Dem in Texas, During my career I have visited well over 30 nations on this planet and I agree wholeheartedly with your post. People in this country (USA) have no concept whatsoever about how much more enlightened Europe and Southeast Asia is (haven't traveled so much in South America so can't speak to that in this area). The people of this nation have been brainwashed into dumb submissive dufuses incapable of having the attention span needed to understand the issues in the depth needed to make intelligent decisions at the voting booth hence the trouble we are in and have been in for the past 20-30 years.
Let's all listen to the lying, two faced, dope smoking former President who would still be denying his relationship with Monica Lewinsky if not for the infamous BLUE DRESS.
Yep, a guy who perjurers himself to a Federal Judge because he can't keep his hands of a young women while his wife and daughter are upstairs is someone we really want to listen to. The first clear example of the main stream media "spiking" news that is unfavorable to a Democrat that was so blatant, when Newsweek choose to bury the story, later broken by Drudge.
Yep, a guy who lucked into the Presidency based on Ross Perot splitting the vote, someone who NEVER even got 50% of the popular vote, doesn't really have a leg to stand.
.
Dem in Texas...thanks for affirming this independents opinion that, when it comes to politics, the average American really is quite emotionally immature. Sad but true.
@Rodger-3113256 -its sad but totally right!!!!!

John-2006106
I will take a president who lies over a BJ as compared to a president who lies about reasons for going to war ANY DAY.
Let's see:
Clinton lies about BJ but lowers debt, unemployment, deficit and STARTS NO WARS.
Bush lies about WMD and going after terrorist in Iraq, starts TWO wars, AND increases debts, deficit, unemployment.
Clinton sends no Americans to death while Bush is responsible for thousands of deaths of American husbands/wives, sons/daughters, brothers/sisters.
Tell me, which liar do you prefer?
Great posts by 'Dem' and 'fed up boomer', followed by 'John' who totally proves their point.
Too many Jersey Shore fans like John who really don't know what's the important things to look for in a politician, especially president.
John, you are right on.
bayllie, Clinton did nothing. Congress did it. He rode the first Bush's coattails. Of course, you lefties take up for him, if a Republican had done the same you would have called for his head. The hypocrisy of the left is a complete joke.
As I learn to become a conservative, let me be sure I have this right. . .
Job losses are worse under Obama . . . even if the statistics, graphs, reports all show that the momentum of the Bush losses ended at the end of Obama's 1st year, and have recovered, albeit slowly, ever since. We must all ignore efforts by the Republicans and their Tea friends to stop EVERY single effort to stimulate job growth. (We must also ignore that we used these same data sources to bitch for 20 months when they favored our distortions.)
Science is a fraud. Dinosaurs and men lived together, and only a few thousand years back. If liberals say "research" they mean actually supported by data, scientific controls and peer review. Our science is strictly based on "the bible told me so", or research sponsored by corporations. Our version of the facts is better than their version of the facts.
Giving people affordable health care kills off business activity. Only the rich should survive, anyway. The poor should suffer from their ignorance . . . after they vote for Republicans, of course. We all know that private insurance has our best interests at heart and those profits are accidental.
The climate is near perfection. Humans are having no influence. Dead and dying wild life is a Hollywood special effect created by them damn liberals. Weather aberrations are NOT real.
Corporations will protect us. No need for any regulation. Destroying companies for personal profit is the American way. Firing people is indeed fun. Wheeeee! The gulf spill was a mere dribble. Human waste in the veggies are of no consequence. Fumes from the neighborhood paint factory add fragrance to the air.
Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, Coutler, Rove, Aisles and their crowd care about 'we the people'. The "rewriting" of the constitution to elevate religion (if it's my religion), empower corporations, and sell politicians to the highest bidder will improve America. Freedom is over-rated.
So much to learn. Where do I sign up to become a right wing wacko? I'm tired of . . . well . . you know . . . . thinking.
baylLIE
Clinton perjured himself. That is a felony. Grow up. He also was accused of RAPE when he was Attorney General in Arkansas, and I believe his accuser. Why anyone defends that POS is beyond me. And Skiddy is right on, Clinton is praised for what a Republican Congress did. But it is good to see him out with Obama because he has such a damn poor record of supporting people. They often lose when he helps.
Bill-Austin
Your line of thinking matches up perfectly with the left. Please stay there because the left has really shown their agenda during this administratiion and they are going to get the shellacking finished up in November.
"He also was accused...I believe his accuser."
Belief without evidence. That's fine, but most people need evidence.
That is only appropriate since the Obama Administration, and most Democrat politicians, thinks that they are running President George W Bush.
Good luck, Bill. I agree with you wholeheartedly but since ours is a society of people who will always justify their behavior, ideas, and beliefs one way or another I think you're preaching to the choir or pissing in the wind.
Dem (not) in Texas: I am an Ind. in Texas. I agree that in general the US voting populce votes on emotion and not facts. That's how Obama and the last 4 or 5 presidents were elected. They buy the hype of the promised Utopia that both sides espouse.
However, I disagree with you about the Europeans being smarter about it, and especially the Asians. The "brainiacs" in Europe let themselves be talked into the European Union. Now Germany can just take over via money control. They don't need to fund an army this time. And the Asians - what's good about China? Or any of the other dictatorships is that area? There really is no vote in Asian countries.
You just like the socialism - you get it all free. No worries. The money always runs out. Which is what is happening now. And communism in China is leaving their masses starving and unemployed. too. Perhaps you need to pay a little more attention.
I am begining to believe that all voters in the US should be required to pass a current events test before voting. Since the democrats won't even let a photo id be required, I doubt that's going to happen.
Clotho
Go ahead and google Juanita Broaddrick. Make up your own mind. There was plenty of proof of rape. It never went to court but a lot of crimes don't. I also believe the OJ was guilty and his case went to court.
JH....
I believe the rape accusation against Bill Clinton was made by a woman named Juanita Broderick. I did see her extensive interview and I believe it was '60 Minutes' or a similar news show that did it. I remember that the woman was very compelling and gave very specific answers to the reporter's questions. Of course, because it was Bill Clinton (D)...the story simply faded.
The only reason I bring this up is it makes a splendid comparison about how Republicans are treated by the media compared to Democrats.
A story surfaces that Mitt Romney led a group of bullies in cutting the hair off another student WHEN HE WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL and it's all over the airwaves and a monster front page story in the 'Washington Post'. The TV news is all over the story and places like 'Newsvine' are abuzz with demands that Romney not be allowed to run for office or pleas to stop folks from voting for the man because of this incident.
Bill Clinton gets accused on national television of raping a woman WHEN HE WAS GOVERNOR OF ARKANSAS and the fallout from the extensive interview the woman gave is one big collective yawn by the national media.
One can only imagine the media earthquake that would have hit this nation had a woman gone on '60 Minutes' and accused Mitt Romney of raping her when he was the Governor of Massachusetts.
I suppose that's not what is called "media bias"...because we are often told it doesn't exist.
Skiddy
Yes, Clinton and Dem. Congress. Republicans didn't contribute.
First Bush? Well, Bush1 could have, should have but didn't. So let me understand this: we are allowed to talk about Bush1 when it comes to Clinton's state of economy (because it was good) but we are not allowed to talk about Bush2 decisions that Obama inherited (because blaming Obama for what he inherited make you feel good)?
JH-479998
yes he did which I do not excuse but I will ask again: which liar do you prefer: one that sends Americans to death or one to cover up a BJ?
You believe the accuser? Good for you - fortunately for us, we have the Constitution to protect us from the likes of you.
NoLimitSoldier50
Let me rephrase it because apparently you did not follow the conversation. The Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 aka the Deficit Reduction Act of 1993 was enacted by the 103rd US Congress and signed into law by Clinton and it was done due to vote by Democrat vote only. Not a single Republican voted for it and that is why Clinton and the Democrats in Congress get the credit.
My post was in response to Skiddy's "Congress did it" and I apologize for not explaining the conversation to you. I will try harder next time so you don't get lost in reading 18 posts.
By the way, 103rd Congress was a Dem Congress because:
Senate Majority:
Democratic Party
House Majority:
Democratic Party
bayllie
You don't have a clue what you are talking about, on both points.
Clinton was under oath in a deposition for a trial regarding a completley different issue than a BJ from Monica Lewinsky. When you're in a depostion it is the same as being under oath in a United States court of law. I would expect the President of the United States of America to uphold our rule of law. He did not lie about a BJ he lied about having contact with Lewinsky when they were establishing his MO, he is afterall a womanizer. He lied to protect his own sorry ass. That is a FELONY. You are right about on thing, we have a constitution, and if it meant anything to the left in this country they would have sent Bill Clinton to prison and not back to the White House. But our laws are not meant for the left as far as you seem to be concerned.
And Bill Clinton DID NOT have a dem Congress when he accomplished all the good things you credit him for. The 103rd Congress was shown the door because of their terrible leadership. Remember the Republican revolution in 1994? The first of many shellacking for democrats. The 104th Congress had to twist Billy's arm to get him to sign all the things that actually brought down deficit and reformed welfare.
Why would anyone want Bill Clinton to campaign for them?????
JH-479998
No, JH, you are running around the question so that you do not have to answer it. The question was not whether it was a felony or not. We all know Clinton got impeached so you are not proving that America was discovered.
I will ask again, which liar are you for. One that lied about a BJ or one that sent thousands of Amerians to death?
All roads lead to George Bush...boring. There used to be a topic under discussion.
Where did "Bush lie"? PROVE IT instead of your tired moronic liberal talking points.
TO: WeiserJG who wrote:
How many millions of times does it have to be "proven" to you over and over again?
If you still don't know how, when, and where George "Curveball" Bush lied, it isn't because you haven't been told a million or more times, its because you're in a deep state of denial and you simply refuse to accept the truth of the matter, which is no doubt why you're still a Republican.
Bush Lied, People Died.
Thanks for providing nothing but more talking points. Try reading the 9/11 Commission Report
TO: John-2006106 who wrote:
Oh please! President Bill Clinton was the best president we've had in decades, and Republicans are still trying to burn him at the stake for attempting to defend a woman's chastity!
You've got Republicans who can't tell right from wrong and use "amnesia" to defend the indefensible policies of the last Republican Administration, and you've got Republicans down in Florida again defending the indefensible by supporting a murderer who killed a child living in a gated community who did nothing more than leave the house after dark to buy some skittles and an iced tea and was gunned down by a "thug" under color of authority.
Republican priorties are so backwards they can only be described as "warped".
Obama/Biden 2012
bayllie
Are you talking about President Bush and the Congress of the Unided States of America? The same president Bush who, along with the rest of America, heard of nothing about Sadam's WMD's for eight friggen years from the Clinton administration?
How do you know he was a murderer? Because you say so? How do you know he wasn't defending himself? Oh yeah, because you say so...........
American Girl
That is too funny. "Attempted to defend a woman's chastity".
I heard it all now. And you say republicans are not honest?
Just because preogresive/liberals say something does not make it true. If you call Bush a liar you also must call Clinton, both Hillary and scumbag Bill, liars. Otherwise YOU are lying.
Yep, Liberals believe everything Mr. Clinton says. Wait a minute, retracting what he said TWO days ago, however the "rage" between Obama and Clinton continues (now that SHOULD be the story).
Flip flop, flip flop.
Mr. Clinton lied.....Mr. Clinton was not prosecuted.
Mr. Clinton lies again.....the Liberals eat it up.
Modus Operandi.
WeiserJG
so if Bush didn't lie to get his way, he was incompetent?
which one is it because the rest of the world said, no WMD. Bush said yes, WMD. So he either lied or was to incompetent to know what he knew?
JH-479998
another attempt to avoid answering the question, huh JH?
Are you talking about President Bush and the Congress of the Unided States of America?
yes, the same one. The President of United States of America has access to information that no one else does including Congress. So when the President of United States of America says to Congress:
Congress listens. Now, pay special attention to my highlight using bold lettersbecause that is why Congress listened.
Clinton did not start a war, did he?
So again, JH, which liar do you prefer? One that killed no one or one that killed thousands?
American Girl-724855
Sad that the only thing that the Republicans could go after is Clinton's BJ.
Why do Republicans always obsess about other people's sex, anyways?
baylLIE
"Earlier today I ordered Americas armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's NUCLEAR, CHEMICAL and BIOLOGICAL weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors."
"Their purpose is to protect the national interests of the United States, and indeed the interests of people throughout the Middle East and around the world".
"Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with NUCLEAR arms, poison gas or biological weapons".
Can you believ that that damned liar said those things???
Quoted form President Bill Clinton's address to the American people in December 1998.
I guess Saddam just got rid of everything within a couple of years after that, what do you think?
Bayllie, have to concur on the whole Clinton BJ thing. I personally could give a crap what Clinton did with Monica nor should the rest of America. The only people damaged by this was the Clinton's. Now on the other hand the representative of the "Small Government" party, Kenneth Star, racked up a sizable bill in his endeavors to get Clinton removed from the white house, which we all know failed. Who paid the bill for this little fiasco? We did, the American tax payer. I honestly believe Clinton did is all a favor, with Hillary's approval, by letting himself be impeached. At least it shut Star up and ended the stupid spending of our tax dollars. Now the whole Bush WMD thing that's a completely different story. He flat out lied and anyone other then Rumsfeld and Chaney will tell you so. Does anyone out there honestly believe if Shrub would of required a tax increase to pay for his little wars we would of let him do any of it? I didn't think so...
JH...
That 'American Girl' post was amazing !!!
Goes to show that anything written needs proofreading...it should now be called the 'American Girl' rule of creative writing.
Mountain...
It was not just the Clintons who were "damaged".
I had an 11 year old son at the time the President of the United States was 'having' a 22 year old girl in the Oval Office. It was impossible to hide the story that a child did not need to hear...and the news was inescapable. I would have preferred not to have to explain what a semen-stained dress was. I would have preferred that my child grow up to respect the nation's political leaders. And I did not need to be told that I was being provided "a teaching moment" in the life of my son. At age 27, he has no respect for politicians.
There are barrels of parents who would say the same thing.
Otherwise, I consider Bill Clinton to have been a good president.
Tony, have to agree with you, we did not need to see this on the news at all. Clinton made a human error. Now who was it exactly that brought this matter to the press and continued to push it into the political lime light? Can't imagine it was Bill or Hillary Clinton. Would of thought they would of preferred to handle that matter in their own house. We as freedom loving American's should of let them don't you think?
Mountain Man
If President Clinton would have been honest it would have ended quietly. He is the scum bag who lied on every occasion to save his sorry ass. He was being sued by a woman that he sexually harrassed, Paula Jones, and was trying to claim imunity. He fought it all the way to the Supreme Court and lost. He was ordered to go to trial and in turn was disposed and lied again under oath. Nobody but himself to blame for the whole mess. Everyday Americans are sitting in jail for perjury, it is a serious crime in this country. We can not accept it from anyone because we as freedom loving Americans need to follow our laws. But the rule of law seemed to be nothing to Bill Clinton
Well, well, well. All this talk about President Clinton and he is not even running. Keep the conversation going on an ex president and we forget about the presidential nominee for the Republican Party or whatever party they call themselves now.
President Clinton is only a speaker for President Obama. Most of Americans think that President Clinton did a super job as president. Bush all but destroyed the United States. President Clinton ignored the Iraq situation because there was no situation only in George W's mind. And it was put there by Cheney who was really the president those horrible years.
Mountain Man nice post. Your very last sentence is the best, and should be headlines for everyone to see.
slightlyold, thanks for the accolade. I think our elected officials should focus more on what's best for our country rather then what happens behind closed doors.
JH, again, Clinton made a human mistake in an effort to protect his family from his indiscretions. Don't agree with how it was handled but I don't believe he was given much of a choice do you? Never should of been a political talking point.
slightly...
Correct...Mr. Clinton is "not even running"...neither is George Bush and his name is written on about a quarter of every Democrat or liberal post on this site. And by the way...the headline of this article was about Bill Clinton...are folks not supposed to mention his name when responding to an article written about him ???
EVERY major intelligence agency in the world thought the same thing, that Iraq possessed WMDs. PLEASE read the 9/11 Commission Report and educate yourself instead of spouting off this mindless babble
Mountain...
"Human error" aside...the worst thing that Bill Clinton's people did was ripping apart the reputations of any woman who spoke up...that was unacceptable to me.
People do make mistakes. But I saw James Carville interviewed at the time and he stated "Drag a hundred dollar bill through a trailer park and see what kind of trash it picks up"...in reference to Ms. Jones, who indeed did have an affair with Mr. Clinton, as he later admitted.
Mr. Clinton was a good president. But a good man does not allow a woman to be unfairly trashed when there wasn't a reason to do so.
Weiser...
Why should "facts" get in the way of one of batllie's goofy rants ???
Clinton is a lying man hoe, please shut your trap you skirt chasing liar,,and go tell it to Monica Lewnsky.
WeiserJG, just watched the interview with Collin Powell. He stated although they were unable to confirm any WMDs the CIA was convinced they did exist. Do you want to bet where the 9/11 Commission Report got their information from? The CIA come on, yea let's trust them. Did they ever find any? Didn't think so...
Yes, this is a joke!!! He, of all people, should keep his unqualified mouth shut. "Calamitous" is what he was and still is for this country.
Go away and hold hands with that peanut idiot Carter. You two fit together and have brought nothing but pain to this country.
tony - Where did baylLIE go? Did I duck the question or did the truth hurt?
You are right, this article was about Bill Clinton and if the truth hurts the lefties in the world they should face facts and quit admiring that scum bag.
Mountain Man - yes he made a mistake. But he made too many mistakes. And I do believe that he was given ample opportunity to tell the truth and avoid the mess he created. It became a political talking point because of the felony he commited while being a sitting President. That is real world politics.
baylLIE - have a good day, I'm leaving for now.
tony, agree whole heartily. Still believe matters of this nature are to be resolved between concerned parties not all over the press and definitely not at tax payer expense. Besides, who really cares now with several presidents and two unfunded wars behind us. Might be in our best interest to let Monica go on with her life and get back to putting America back on top of the world.
Care to explain why the other intelligence agencies around the globe thought EXACTLY THE SAME THING. But yeah, why would they ever thing that Iraq possessed them. It's not like Saddam ever used mustard gas on his own people..............
I still can't believe how many people just don't get it. It wasn't that Clinton made a major error in judgement having a relationship with an intern. It was the fact that he got on national television and pointed his finger right in the face of every American and told us a bald-faced lie. In case you're are totally clueless, that means he thinks the American people are a bunch of saps.
You have to stoop very low to accept being lied to like that for any reason.
If Clinton had half the brains so many attribute to him, he would have had a press meeting and simply said I made a mistake, hurt my family..blah, blah, blah...and the press would have made him out to be saint for being so humble and honest with American people.
JH,
and yet again Clinton did not start a war with Iraq, and did not cost thousands of American lives. What part of starting a war and NOT starting a war don't you understand??????
weiser,
U.N. weapons inspectors presented evidence they said disproved those claims but weeks later, on March 20, 2003, the United States launched a war that has cost thousands of American lives.
No biological weapons, no germ labs, no weapons of mass destruction of any kind were found in Iraq. U.S. investigations into the intelligence failure around the claims found that German intelligence considered the defector "crazy" and "out of control," and it turned out, the CIA not only never spoke with him, it never even saw transcripts of the German interviews, only the Germans' analysis of the interviews.
http://intelligence.senate.gov/press/record.cfm?id=298775
“Before taking the country to war, this
Administration owed it to the American people to give them a 100 percent
accurate picture of the threat we faced. Unfortunately, our Committee has
concluded that the Administration made significant claims that were not
supported by the intelligence,” Rockefeller said. “In making the case for war,
the Administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when in reality it
was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent. As a result, the
American people were led to believe that the threat from Iraq was
much greater than actually existed.”
“It is my belief that the Bush Administration
was fixated on Iraq, and used the 9/11 attacks by al Qa’ida as justification for
overthrowing Saddam Hussein. To accomplish this, top Administration officials
made repeated statements that falsely linked Iraq and al Qa’ida as a single
threat and insinuated that Iraq played a role in 9/11. Sadly, the Bush
Administration led the nation into war under false pretenses."
this is just part of it, the rest you can read by clicking on the link I provided.
WeiserJG, Since when do we put our sons and daughters in harms way based on other intelligence agencies around the globe? Although we can take their information under advisement when we are sending our family members to war we should only be listening to our OWN with positive confirmation. You honestly don't believe these other nameless countries you speak of didn't have a vested interest in the Iraq oil fields do you? Again, how many WMDs the CIA and other intelligence agencies around the globe were convinced existed were actually found?
weiser,
I would appreciate your comment on the Senate Intelligence Committee Final Phase II Reports on Prewar Iraq Intelligence.
How are you going to call that a lie becuase it states exactly what I've been talking about and you said I lied.
So Clinton thinks the roaring catastrophe that is Obama should be reelected? Those socialists sure do stick together, don't they?
Still further proof that ideology trumps all, even the welfare of the country.
Rodger-3113256 -- What kind of mentality is that? So folks should not vote and just let the oligarchy take over completely, and then we will all be working for a monopoly with zero rights? That's the most anti-democracy, un-American BS spewed these days.
There is a lesser of two evils -- Just follow the money to Koch Big Oil, Wall Street, etc. that currently contribute to Republicans 5 to 1. This is why Scott "Centerfold" Brown in Massachusetts is voting against fair pay for women.
Big Business does not want to take the hit and pay the large percentage of the workforce what they are paying male counterparts. It would cause law suits? So this is why we should continue to discriminate against women? Really, seriously? Especially in these changing times in which women are the bread winners for their household, with larger expenses from health care to dry cleaning?
WTF is wrong with the rightwing? The War on Women is despicable enough, but with this mentality slavery would still be in place -- it's mind bending! Especially GOP women who vote against their own. Throw these biotch's out!
Dem in Texas-2291575 -- Now that (post #2.1) was the kind of opening post worth reading -- Great post! It is good to learn how the US compares. The low-information voters, low-information media (FIXED News/Hate Radio) = low-information candidates like the clowns we saw in the GOP/TP circus, and we're still suffering from Trump the carnival barker and Birther ignoramus. It's embarrassing!
I find it pretty funny that the teabaggers can't remember a single day out of the 8 years Bush was President but know every graphic detail between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.
What a bunch of low-informational, jealous, evangelical perverts. Obviously they have spent much more time pleasuring themselves with thoughts of Bill Clinton than of George W Bush.
bayllie and American girl are clueless. Shockedand disgusted, you must have nothing but liberal talking points, no facts, because you fall back to the liberal way, just start name calling like a 6 year old.
Ah, skiddy...always there to defend the perverts.
Perhaps you can explain their nasty fascinations??
America, look where we are at as a Nation.
You reap what you sow!
Stupid is, as stupid does!
Skiddy
you know what would make you look intelligent? proving us wrong with 'thingies' called FACTS. Writing what you just wrote shows your last grade completed...six grade, is it?
You two have provided no facts, only name calling like a six year old. I'm not wasting any more time on two 6 year olds.
...because, skids....It's painfully obvious that even a 6 year old mentality is way over your head. Go turn on the FOX tabloid channel and drool on yourself some more...and then go drool over the picture of Bill Clinton that you have hidden under your pillow.
George Romney, he knows he has already lost and is thinking how many more golf trips and vacations he can squeeze in before the thumping he will get in November. Jimmy Cawter has a big smile now.....
Who the heck is George Romney. and it has been Barack Obama that has been taking lavish vacations at taxpayer expense.
Scott Rasmussen contends in his latest syndicated column, "The economy matters more than campaign tactics, and the indicators at the moment are mixed at best. Additionally, most Americans believe that the president's instincts lead in the wrong direction when it comes to finding solutions."
That explains why for the first time in five-and-a-half years of regular tracking, half of voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats when it comes to the economy, the issue they rate as by far the most important to how they will vote.
Mitt Romney had moved ahead of Obama in the key battleground state of Ohio after the president has led there for several months. This also marks a continuing shift in the critical Core Four states – Ohio, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia – with Romney now leading in all four for the first time in Rasmussen Reports polling this year.
Combined, the Core Four have 75 Electoral College votes, and if the president is successful in even two of these states, it will be just about impossible for the GOP candidate to win the White House. On the other hand, if Romney were to win the four states, the president would probably be out of a job next January.

And then the jobs report came out Friday 1Jul2012. It was not the kind of news the president wants to hear as he campaigns for reelection. Economic recovery DROPPING and unemployment RISING...
As George Soro's stated on 30Jan2012, "If it's between Obama and Romney, there isn't all that much difference except for the crowd that they bring with them," he said while at Davos, Switzerland... see http://www.examiner.com/article/george-soros-not-much-difference-between-romney-and-obama
And look which President is talking about MORALS. What a joke of an article.
If he could run again, I would vote for Bill Clinton in a heartbeat. With Bill at the helm, our economy was doing better than it had in years. I don't particularly like Obama, but he beats the socks off any of the Republicans, on any day of the week.
If you think the employment figures are bad now you had better try to imagine what things will be like under the Repteallian administration. We have ( as stated in last evenings national news 24+million un and underemployed in this country. In order to cut the debt and deficit The Bain of our Existence would double that number. The here is what will happen;
1. Far less revenue will be coming in
2. The debt/deficits will both increase exponentially
3. There will be social unrest as those who have jobs will be taxed higher and higher rates
4. The social safety nets including Medicare and Social Security will be axed
5. The defense budgets will be increased
6. Our own military will be used to quell the rioting under martial law
Welcome to the brave new world of Democracy in the land of the free and the home of the brave - you earned every bit of the pain you will have voted into office - BTW this is NOT sarcasm - this is what YOU and your children for generations to come will be living like. 3-4 generations in a single apartment will be the American Dream.
really? How do you know all these facts? Answer is, you don't. You're just making it all up. That's not even an opinion on your part, it's just pure fantasy. Or, by some miracle do you have some concrete proof of these wild claims - like #4, for example?
Feedupboomer
Are you really that dumb or are you just another paid political hack?
@boomer
funny, that's pretty much exactly what I picture if Obama gets re-elected except for the defense budget increasing.
Dear One Really Fed Up Boomer,
Most of your analysis I agree with except for #3. You have this mixed up - the people with jobs will be taxed less - see your #1 point. But they will perceive that they will be taxed more. The social unrest will come from all the people out on the street with no food or shelter - see your #4.
But then again, maybe you do have it right. Lower and middle incomers will likely have higher taxes as taxes are cut for the super wealthy (you know, the ones who have the means to pay taxes and who benefit the most from the things our gov provides - rule of law, copywrite protections, public roadways, etc. I've also noticed that as Federal tax rates go down, local income and especially property tax rates go up. The wealthy want to get real property from those who are land rich but cash poor. They want to own everything.
The current state of our country is analgous to pre-WW2 Germany. Fox News and Rush are the Nazi propagandastists of our time. Anyone with an independent mind can see this. It is even worse than it looks.....
I think Alghourd meant Willard Romney. George Romney was Willard's father, who was governor of Michigan in the 1960s and briefly ran for President in 1968.
@Kannin...I know, right?!? I'm so glad you, like most people who spout about Obama's vacation time, looked up the facts or else you'd just be spouting more lie. Thankfully someone like you would never do that. I've posted the link below and WOW! You're right, he does tend to take 2.2 vacation days a month on tax payer dollars...unlike your saint Bush who took 6.4 days per month of vacation time. I'm sure Bush paid for it himself though. Way to mouth off without checking the facts.
Clotho
Considering that George Romney was born in Mexico, how was he able to run for president?
My My some of you do have your knickers in a knot don't you? Go ahead and vote the nation into financial oblivion I am retiring to Panama.
TO: bayllie who wrote:
Bingo!
Obama the socialist will lose in November in the most FAST & FURIOUS way.
GOP Rules.
NorthernLights4Me -- Great post!
Romney -- He's not in it for you.
bayllie...American Girl-724855..."Considering that George Romney was born in Mexico, how was he able to run for president?"...."Bingo!"
Are you really that uninformed ???.....Both his parents were American Citzens living in Mexico....That's how it works in the rest of the world....Your parents nationality is your nationality.....Only here, can a Mexican woman (for example) in the middle of childbirth drag herself across the border and give birth to an American....This Anchor Baby krap has got to end.
Mike in Delray
ohhh, come on. we are having some good, ol' birther fun over here.
It's annoying isn't it? You've been hearing it for what, like 5 minutes? Try putting up with this crap for 4 years now.
bayllie......How do you like those Wisconsin Results ???
Mike in Delray
Walker had to outspend his opponent 7:1 to win. How do you like the fact that money pured in from who knows where to get Walker re-elected? You know what that proves? For the right amount you can buy any position you wish. Those are the real Wisconsin results.
Welcome to Buying Your Politician 101.
How do you like the fact that Wisconsin was the last in job growth?
Add up all the money the Unions and Democrats spent starting the day Walker was elected in 2010, busing in protesters, paying them, feeding them, housing them. They spent heavy in the First Round of recalls....It took alot of money to counter all the propaganda/lies they spread for the last 18 Months...And if you're going to try to blame Citizens-United...you have to ask yourself, why didn't the DNC contribute anything, why didn't BIG DONOR liberals Obama is pick-pocketing on a regular basis didn't match it Dollar for Dollar....I'll tell you why...They all knew this was a bad idea from the get-go.....and they were all told to save their money for Obama...he's gonna need it.....
Which brings me to another point....Obama is quite proud he'll raise a BILLION dollars to get re-elected...but that's OK with you.....He bashes Venture Capitalists on TV and then has a $40,000 a plate fundraiser with them in NY....Pfffft.
Mr. "I tie my dog to the car" "I love to fire people" "I become rich sending jobs overseas" "women are babymakers" "I loved good health care until it was not my idea" should just take his money and run!

Good question Talk to the hand... you would never get the answer from Fox or Limbaugh, but try this:
http: / /www.voice4america.com/articles/2012/01/30/unemployment-progress.html
1/30/12
Don't believe what you hear. We are making progress with respect to the unemployment rate.
A user bmcphail over at DailyKos.com put together a fantastic article debunking many of the misconceptions about Barack Obama's record.
Most notably the unemployment rate.
Well here is the graph of the US unemployment rate.
Talk to the Hand,
This was a quote by Dem in Texas-2291575, 1.6 this thread...
"I would like to remind the republicans the month that Bush left office the economy lost 800,000 jobs."
Not my number
Not as stupid as yo uthink,
The US Military was still feeling the effects of the 1/3 man-power cuts, program cuts and the numerous base closings, when 9-11 occurred. The savings from these cuts were going to the INCREASED welfare payments and social programs that the Democrats & Clinton put in place...
Clinton's budget surpluses owe much to the Social Security tax on payrolls and the Dot Com bubble. Social Security taxes bring in more than the cost of the current benefits, and the "Social Security surplus" makes the total deficit or surplus figures look better than they would if Social Security wasn't counted. But even if we remove Social Security from the equation, there was a surplus of $1.9 billion in fiscal 1999 and $86.4 billion in fiscal 2000. The federal budget was balanced and the deficit was erased, until the Dot Com bubble burst & 9-11 occurred...
If the Clinton Administration had heeded the WARNING given by Brooksley Born, 1995-1999, the credit melt-down could have been prevented... see http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/warning/
BTY - Obama's current budget deficit is over $15+Trillion USD, 50% HIGHER than the Bush jr deficit...
AC -
I guess that makes Bush's 50% excusable. Get real.
You should pull your head out of your rear and research Bush Jr.'s off the books military spending. It will tell you a lot about Obama's half of the rediculous post you just wasted our time with.
And MYSELF Mr. Obama will raise your taxes extremely high, I Obama will personally that America's gets down graded, I Obama will interfere with religion and the Catholic church, I Obama will say NO to the Keystone project but I Obama will let China drill for oil 60 miles off the coast of Florida, I Obama will sit in Jeremiah Wrights racist church for 22 years, I Obama like friends like Bill Ayres a a convicted terrorist, I Obama will make very sure the Mexican drug lords will receive the guns in a very FAST & FURIOUS way, and I Obama will give TRILLIONS more of Tax Payers money, and I Obama will vacation and vacation and vacation, and I Obama will help the oil companies out and allow them to rack the poor over the coals, I Obama promise you much higher utlities and taxes, I Obama love the socialist life and I want the same for America, and I Obama made sure I shoved Obama care down your throats but how ever it is not good enough for my family- the blessed Obama's are exempt. Obama is the worst President in American history and he has to go FAST & FURIOUS way.
stclaire...have you ever thought of turning off FOX "news" and doing something constructive (like yard work? ) Your droning, chanted teabagger rhetoric is brainwashed and creepy...and exactly, word for word, the same rhetoric groaned out by all of the other teabagger clones. That you get your programming from the same source is obvious...the question is, will any of you ever choose the freedom of independent thought over brainwashed hatred and stupidity?
Only if you make over $250,000. Is four percentage points really a big deal??? It's not even a tax increase; it's just a return to previous rates.
Happened because Boehner skipped out of the debt deal due to Grover Norquist's traitorous no-tax pledge.
As a Catholic, I say go Obama. The Church gets to butt into the state affairs with lobbyists and what not, so I think it's perfectly fair for the government to tell the Church to play by the same rules as everyone else. As I like to say, when the Church pushes the State, the State has to push back.
First of all, the Keystone Pipeline would only create a few thousand temporary jobs, while the Chinese oil rigs will create more permanent. Secondly, I think we should stop being so hostile to Chinese investors and let them invest in this country to create jobs. Thirdly, most of the oil that would transported through the Keystone Pipeline (about 98% of it) would be exported. While I am all in favor of exports, getting only 2% of the pie for a project in which we the United States share the environmental risk in case of an oil spill is outright ridiculous. No investor would agree to that. Why should we??? Unless TransCanada can pony up about 50% of the oil, they can kiss my ass.
Must we dwell on the past??? Shall I refer to Romney as a "magic underwear cultis???" But no, I won't stoop to that level, at least not on purpose.
Even though Fast and Furious was started by Bush...
To programs that will create jobs like the stimulus and the President's $476 billion Jobs bill, which could create 2 million jobs while rebuilding our roads and bridges without adding to the deficit.
A lot less than President Bush....
In case you haven't realized it, Obama wants to end subsidies to oil companies and raise taxes on them.
Only for the wealthiest Americans.
Only because old-fashioned FDR-style politics is socialism to these fascist Republicans...
Not sure about the last story but I have to admit that most Americans support Obamacare's provisions minus the individual mandate. Not to mention that Obamacare saves roughly $200 billion over the next decade.
No, Bush is the worst President in American history and Romney will be even worse.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
Jimmy Carter now loses the worst President award to good ol Barry. Jimmy said he was glad to see it in his lifetime. Actually, Carter is a good and decent man, just shouldn't have been President, and like the history that got him elected, history has repeated itself. A repub will take over and like Ronnie Reagan bring back the hope and change Obummer is talking about, only it will be Romney to do it.
Liberal Dems suck, always have.
Lets see..under the last Republican Administration our economy almost completely and totally imploded. The only thing stopping another great depression was the government pumping billions in cash into banks and other financial institutions. That was only 4 years ago. I'm sorry but I'm not ready to key them the keys to the car again just yet.
The housing market collapse was the reason the economy imploded. Who relaxed the home loan requirements? Clinton and the Democrat? Damn near ruined any financial institution holding home loans. Lay the blame where on the correct party. I am a Democrat but certainly don't want 4 more years of the Obama BS and incompetence.
I was going to say something relevant here, but then I read your post again and realized how pointless saying anything intelligent would be. Carry on being narrow minded.
There you go again bringing up the Republican God Ronnie "forgetful" Reagan. Read the true story of the Challenger "accident". However Jack your point is very well taken so will end on this note. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
Ed, I'd love to hear the reasons why you want to keep the keys in the hands of this driver...what has he done to make you think he is capable to do what has to be done? Why does he want a second term? What does he plan to do that he hasn't tried in the first term, and if you have an answer to that question, why hasn't he done it already? Obama is out of ideas and out out of options...his record is one of failure. He has only one track to convince people and that is that he is the lesser of two evils, hardly a man a vision, but clearly a desparate man.
TJM
Don't make it so easy. I hand him the keys b/c we're not in a freakin DEPRESSION. You should be smart enough to know what that is, if not it's the thing that comes after resession. Maybe that was to much for you at one time a recession is what the Bushleague adminstration left us in.
Republitards should really stick to their own kind at fox. You fools come on hear and just sound stupid.
I agree with some of the posts here...I believe that the Republican party decline every single action Mr Obama has placed in front of them. I also believe that they initially thought that he would be their little puppet but he in turn proved to be the best speaker that this country as ever seen in front of a podium....I think that anyone who mentions that he is not worried about the poor and has never been in those shoes before should not be my president. Because really the rich and become more poor than the actual poor in a blink of an eye...So to Mr Romney until you and your wife pay over $600.00 a month in medical premiums, than pay $100.00 co-pays and an additional $100.00 for prescriptions on a routine checkup, until you provided the needed neccesities for your children on one income while advancing your education, until you have also cared, and provided financial assistance for your elderly parents because although they worked for 30 plus years their Retirement looks like crap....Until you walk in the shoes of the avearge AMERICAN....please please please....refrain from the negative comments...
Jayfrom dallas
And I suppose you think Obama has done all the things you describe?
Jay from Dallas:
Nicely, put Jay. I am also from Dallas and I agree. When I was growing there were three groups, the rich, middle class and poor. Now its rich and poor MAINLY, because of closing of factories, outsourcing and straight up greed. Now having said that, why unions under attack because of greed. This country used to be proud of its production but hell now it made in china or another 3rd world country. All Im saying is, I have to vote Obama. No way we can allow a fool who says: Im not worried about the poor they have a life support already and then says I am concern about putting people back to work I. I like firing people. I was proud of signing into law a healthcare act now he is against. Just a 8 year running for president so I and my boys can make more money fool !
mickice...
Will you next compile a list of some of the dumb things Barack Obama has said ???
"Both Romney and Obama have been working furiously to raise cash in an election that will have plenty of money influencing it aside from what the candidates rake in."
This says it all.
Bill Clinton is trying to sabotage Obama's campaign, if that's even possible. He owes Hillary big-time and he knows it.
Good comment Clinton coming from the president who created basis for the housing crisis that is still destroying our economy. Low interest for short term, zero down payment, and no verification of income to get a home loan began in the Clinton administration. Decision to home relax loan requirements was the single worst decision made by any president. Like many bad decisions the negative impact did not occur until the Bush administration. Too bad Americans have a short memory and may listen to what you say!!
Obama has spent almost 4 years blaming Bush when he should blame Clinton.
Nice spin there Tom...all lies but nice try..
Once again American Voters are left with 2 vials of poison to choose from and are trying to figure out which will be the less "calamitous" becuase we all know both will be to an extent.
I'm old enough to remember George W. Bush pushing everyone to buy a house they couldn't afford. He said frequently that he wanted the U.S. to be a nation of homeowners.
This "everyone be a homeowner" thing is not unique to the US. I saw on your favorite national news channel last night a story about Spain and the foreclosure problem. The story highlghted a Spanish woman who had been loaned $250,000 (the full asking price) for a condominium. But when one of her cleaning jobs fell through, she couldn't pay the mortgage. The Spanish banks loaned a cleaning woman $250,000 and actually thought she would pay it back. She delusionally thought she'd be able to pay it back on a cleaning woman's salary. I'd like to know what a cleaning woman makes in Spain.
By the way, a woman trying to help her stop the foreclosure said "foreclosures in Spain were not fair like they were in the US" because when in an American is foreclosed on, he/she doesn't have to pay the bank still. Which of course is not really true. If a bank in the US forecloses and short sells, they can still come after the original loan holder for the difference. But in Spain, they take the house and still expect the person to pay. All of which is just stupid. If the person can;t pay before the bank forecloses, it's highly doubtful they can pay afterward - in either country.
President Obama inherited the oval office during the Great Recession at it's worst. He did exactly as Bush had begun, throwing money to the largest US employers, not only saving their companies, but the pensions for the workers who had poured their lives into their jobs.
The health care bill will be expensive, but it's embarrassingly late in the history of 'the greatest superpower on earth'. How can we persuade other governments to follow our political lead when we let our own people down in healthcare? I'm on Cobra, for how much longer I don't know, but a recent antibiotic prescription that I need for an incurable infection cost One Thousand Dollars without insurance. This is criminal. Fortunately for me I have a temporary coupon which will allow me to buy a year's worth at $25 a refill. We HAVE to give families without insurance a viable healthcare plan. Each of my husband's two insulin medicines cost between $200-$300 dollars.
Mitt Romney may have a lot to offer the American people. But his personal history with hostile corporate takeovers Must persuade the American public that his brand of capitalism is part of why the middle class is shrinking as their mom-and-pop business culture is lost to megacorporations. Where is the hope to revive middle America if they can't be self employed?
Observers have predicted a bloody general campaign in the fall. This is sad. I hope it won't be as bad as they predict. But Obama did not cause the crisis he inherited. And 4 years was not long enough to fix it.
I hope we all remember we're Americans, together we must find a solution. Returning to Bush-era freedom of hands-off business created the Madoffs, the charismatic charlatans who robbed people of their savings. "Investing is a form of gambling" does NOT excuse their duplicity. We have to come to a happy medium between capitalism and working for the common good. It's not going to happen under a Republican administration where 'volunteerism' is supposed to ease suffering for our poor.
Did we learn ANYTHING from the Bush years? Or are we condemned to a twisted "Rollerball" future of corporate giants and struggling young businessmen and businesswomen who can only aspire to be under that protected corporate umbrella? Democrats aren't the shining knights in armor I wish they were. We have to fight a welfare system as a way of life. I don't cringe at aspects of socialism in our culture, they exist. It will be very hard to curtail more wasteful aspects of Government bureaucracy. I'm not saying the Democrats can succeed at that.
But we can not, we must not, continue down the Republican road to let the rich get richer and the poor fend for themselves as best they can. This isn't the freedom of America that I learned in school. This is a 'kill or be killed' Darwinism narrowing the minds of our youth, losing any interest in the common welfare for all Americans.
Actually, the healthcare bill will cut the deficit by roughly $200 billion. And don't worry, by the next decade, I hope, we will begin to forward single-payer healthcare to finally fix our healthcare system completely and become more competitive economically in the world today.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
It will take everyone that is in office to fix the mess we are in, not just one
man. Obama has been trying to do just that by trying something new and it gets
shot down no matter how good it is. We can be scared of change and the unknown that’s
normal human nature. But how else will we move on if we stick with all the same
political garbage? Romney hasn’t offered much of anything new or different; he’s
just a different person. He will be in the same situation Obama is in now
except this time we will have to start over with a new president. At least
Obama has ideas and visions for this country that make sense, now if only we
can implement them with the compromise of the other side.
He has been trying to do that; by increasing spending, raising taxes on business, increasing regulation on energy production, growing the federal governments reach and power, demonizing for political gain half the US population, and the list goes on and on
Only on opposite day, in an alternate Universe, and altered reality, could any of those things even remotely resemble the right thing to do
Romney isn't the Solution, but he might be less of the Problem...a vote for either is a vote for kicking the can down the road
Mr. P
Presidnt Obama has not increased spending.
He has not increased taxes
He has not increased regulations on Energy.
Obama has been trying to do just that by trying something new and it gets shot down no matter how good it is.
he had a supermajority for his first two years in office. If things didn't get done, that must mean his own party didn't even agree with him. What does that tell you, hmmm?
President Obama never had a filibuster proof majority in either house of Congress. At most, there were 58 Democratic Senators for a few months, before Kennedy died. It is true that, while the President has not increased the budget (which has remained flat since the Bush budget), Democrats do believe that we need to spend money to end the depression. Look at what happened in Greece, Italy, Spain and France when they tried to cut the budget and enact severe austerity measures. If we allow the Republicans to do the same, we're looking at 11% unemployment like southern Europe. Obama deserves credit for lowering the U.S. unemployment rate to nearly 8%, which is way below most other countries.
During any economy, good or bad, money had to keep flowing like water to keep the economy moving. Obviously we can't rely on the private sector, which is sitting on $2 trillion but waiting for the economy to improve. So government has to invest in its people, or the economy is doomed. If the government were to invest $1 trillion right now in its infrastructure, we could put millions of people to work immediately and reduce the unemployment to 5-6%. At that point, the private sector starts spending to meet demand, and the government can reduce spending.
It's exactly what Reagan did, for a much smaller recession. Sadly, Democrats worked with Reagan for the good of the nation. Republicans clearly want the country to keep hurting, at least until November. McConnell was the one who famously said that the Republicans' number one political goal was to make Obama a one-term President. Sad.
A friend has a serious mental problem, quite like yours. Do the street corner 'meds' help at all ?
BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Pardon me while I wipe the coffee off of my monitor. Wow, have your head in the sand much?
Clotho-
The actual unemployment rate is much higher than 8%, seeing that they don't count people whose unemployment benefits have ran out and who have stopped looking for work.
Republicans want the country to keep hurting? How does that make sense? The Republicans have passed budgets and bills left and right in the house but the Dems in the Senate refuse to allow them to be brought to the table, let alone to be voted on.
And let's not forget that the Obama Administration took the cost of energy and food out of the equation when measuring inflation. We all know why they did it, but in doing so, they have made their measurement of inflation totally meaningless. There isn't an honest politician in the bunch, but I won't be voting for Obama again.
And Obama inherited a disastrous economy, when Bush was Pres., 1 million jobs were being lost a month, by the time Bush left office 14 million jobs had been lost. While the economy is not back from that, it is slowly recovering thanks to Pres. Obama, and was even doing better before the Nov. "2010" election when Republicans took the House, they screwed all the good that had been done to that point. Republicans got elected in 2010 on their promise to get people working and all they did was lay off people. Check out Rick Scott he one hell of a joke.
Got any proof??? And by the way, since when has the cost of food and energy been counted as inflation???? Energy is extremely volatile due to direct events in the world, that is why it shouldn't be included as inflation.
OBAMA BIDEN 2012
It's quite simple: Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago? If not, it's your own fault for being lazy and failing to take advantage of America's plentiful opportunities. Ironically, that's the viewpoint of teabaggers and Repugnicans, yet somehow they also blame the sitting president for all your ills.
I am better off now than I was 4 years ago in spite of the TeaBaggers and Republicans..
Are we better off than we were four years ago? HELL YES!!!!!
Then you live in fantasy land if you believe that.
Not me
I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps you should work harder, as teabaggers and Repugnicans would helpfully advise you.
Isn't Clinton the one who started the "birther" thing? And along with Franks is responsible for the housing crash?
Hah! This is too much!
I guess he's gotta atone for his previous (and likely more heartfelt) comments about Romney being brilliant.
What a bunch of losers....Obama and his cotery have sure brought the Democtartc Party to a new low..
""I, I...never had sex with that woman!!!"
Rrright!
A pic of the two biggest bull-$hitters this country has ever known - an ex-President impeached for lying and a soon-to-be ex-President voted out of office due to gross incompetence !!!
And Good Ol' Dog - tie your balloon to Romney and the Koch Brothers and all of the miserable bunch of sons of bitches that is supporting Romney and when Texas becomes a dunping ground for nuclear waste - and the air stinks because of deregulation and your babies or your childen's babies all have asthma and can't breathe - think of Romney and his cohorts they will have bought their own islands and have flown this country that they destroyed
Looks like a good future to me don't you think?
to Barbara Adams Jackson - where do I start ?? This country is going down the toilet with the unsustainable social programs we have in place. A lot of them need be defunded - like Planned Parenthood - or be drastically cut down or modified.
We lost our triple A rating under O-bumbles, our unemployment rate is NOT 8.2% because that number does NOT take into account those who have left the workforce due to inability to find a job and those that are underemployed. The real number is nearly twice that.
You think we live in a bubble, isolated from the rest of the world. I' ll bet you don't like the Keystone pipeline or drilling for oil in Alaska either. I am concerned about the environment also but there are priorities and that takes a back seat until we, as a Nation, get back on our feet. That won' t happen under Barack O-bull-$hit.
I'm one of the 99 % and I' m voting for Romney !!!
GOOD OL" DOG - Nonsense start taxing people on their incomes - bring back the Clinton tax rates - get rid of the 40 Billion subsidies to Big Oil
And the rating was lost over the Tea Party - FACT CHECK.ORG
The Keysone Pipeline is a joke and the job numbers have been inflated - it is a disaster waiting to happen you think BP was a horror story - sludge is impossible to clean - and all that oil would be shipped to China
Canada could easily run it through their country to the coast - why not - their government refused because of the environmental problems
And under Obama we are drilling more than ever before - so before you post get your facts straight
And frankly I don't give a dam who you vote for because I lay you 100 to 1 you never voted for Obama in the first place
Check and Mate!
Barbara - I think you should switch to decaf coffee in the morning.
Did we not say the same thing, incompetent, when Pres. Bush was in office 2000-2008. I am still in awe, that we re-elected an incompetent president in 2004. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was draining our treasury, we had a "cowboy" of a president who seems to have the mantra " Are you with us or againsts us " that scared politicains to speak up for fear of being branded as un-patriotic.
Enough with that style of presidency, we cannot have a president who is rebuilding other nations instead of America. President Obama may have invested american tax dollars into failed companies but they are here in America, too bad we did not include a clause of government oversite to protect our interest and have outside management step in to save the company and american jobs.
And on a side note, a republican governor went on a visit to China and hand them the application to bid for a bridge ? Is this the kind of Republican action we want ? Time to vote career politicians out of Senate and the House.
Well I guess it's been longer than two weeks since Bill was president so we are suppose to have forgotten what a dog and pony show he ran, Nancy P is touting Hillary in 2016, well let's wait two weeks and see how that one plays. Don't you politicians have a diamond jubilee or somethings you promised the folks back home to attend to, SpaceX will not be ready to go to the ISS again for a few more weeks.
Everyone knows Clinton is a fool, and you Dems better wake up! NO ONE wants to listen to "It's Bush's fault!" ===( crying like a baby). If Obama is sooooooo great he should of "solved" it by now. That's what happens when you act like you are the smartest person in the room and it has become obvious that he is not!
iowa - We elected a President - wish we had elected a benvolent King because if we had we would tell all the sorry ass Tea Baggers to go home - turn in your badges - no pay - no health care - go back to your used car lots and lie to the next buyer
Spoilers we don't need @ $177,500 a year and all the bennies
Latest report out - Congress has the mentality of 10th graders and I'm sure if is a mean total Democrats raised the Republicans up else I rate all Republicans at 7th grade
And if Clinton is a fool then maybe we should elect fools because his 8 years as President made 23 Million jobs - your fool Bush destroyed as many jobs
And Iowa - you solve it if your so dam smart - your lack of education is showing - little jealous are you - drop out huh! Poor baby - did you get your GED
to Barbara Jackson - I am also a "sorry ass Tea-bagger" !
After O-bumbles and the Dems tried to force Obamacare down everyone's throats, the TEA Party sent representatives to Washington to stop Obama and derail his Socialist agenda.
So far, so good !!
Good Ol' Dog....you are so proud of what teabaggers have done to try to stop Obama...so let me ask you. what have teabaggers got in mind to fix the problems in healthcare? Or do you simply think it should remain the same (increasingly expensive) so long as Obama is not successful?
Good OL' Dog - I knew you never voted for Obama - so what's your point?
You don't want people with pre-existing conditions to have Health Care - you don't want kids getting out of college to be carried on their parent's insurance - you don't want women to pay the same rates for their insurance as men - you don't want free exams for preventive health care - you know of course that's part of it - or do you
And - when you go to the hospital do you want to pay for all the uninsured that hospitals tag onto your costs to absorb the uninsured - you do know that's in it too - mandated health insurance - that is what that's about
Actually what I also would have liked added is Dental Insurance - You can go to Costa Rica and have an implant for $600 - this country $5,000
So Good Ol' Dog
my good old dog is 13 years of age - his name is Sunrise and I drove to Kentucky to get him - English Cocker Spaniel - Taffy colored and White and contracted Lyme Desease in Virginia - my costs for this friend of mine - is high!
So maybe we have something in common - also lost my little girl - a year ago November - also an English Cocker Spaniel and lo and behold have a new girl from of all places Anchorage, Alaska
So Good Old Dog at least we own dogs - strike that they own us!
Or maybe not - you just assumed that name - I myself prefer real names
to Barbara Jackson - I have had dogs for decades. I have always enjoyed that special communication and bond that only a pet owner would understand. All too often I have also shared the terrible grief of having to put one down. At least we are on the same page about dogs !!
Have a good day - I mean that !!
I have a really old German Shepherd that is experiencing severe hip dysplasia. She can hardly get up and walk anymore. I've already had to put dogs and a cat to sleep, but it never gets any easier. Especially since she isn't really sick, other than her inability to walk. My last dog had cancer and was clearly ready to go. We think she has a couple of months before she can't get up to relieve herself, and at that point we'll say good bye. :(
I watched my father with brain cancer go through as many treatments as the Dr's could find for Brain cancer. I would have liked to remember him playing with the grandkids, enjoying life. Not spending it sick in bed, not knowing who was there. He could have had a better quality of life which would have been less quantity. We have to learn to say goodbye, that will never change
Bill Clinton another politician never missing a chance to make a buck.
Lied on a court deposition and lied to the American People. This man has no integrity.
joe- - What Bill Clinton should have said it's none of your god dam business - and the blue dress with the sperm - sorry at that time I was single and if I saved all the evidence of my daliances my closet wouldn't haver been big enough
Get my point it was a set up and he handled it poorly
What about "the Diaper Boy Vitter" who actually broke a law consorting with prostitutes and he sits as a Senator and nobody went after him
Clinton had a BJ with a 24 year old intern who lived at the Watergate - pricy rent and her neighbor where the Doles
Stinks!
Time to drop it! Old News
Barbara Adams Jackson,
Clinton took the Lewinsky fall to cover his trail in the Chinagate scandal...
How much Chinese money has he and his wife had to return and give to Charity???
If you do not remember anything about this, then the slight of hand WORKED!!!
Just Google - Clinton Chinagate
If Romney wins, it is bad on the private sector, if Obama wins it is bad on the government sector, so take your pick. Either way it is a lose-lose proposition in the end. The only way to fix what is wrong with our failing government is to redraft our U.S. Constitution, in favor of a far greater system of democracy which puts the power squarely into the hands of the American people. Until that finally happens, the U.S. is going to continue to decline until it eventually ends up on the trash heap of history alongside the former USSR. But unfortunately that seems to be what the majority of Americans want, so they can supposedly see their Lord and Savior King Jesus make his second advent into our world, so he set up his totalitarian theocratic kingdom over our entire Earth, and become the future supreme demigod dictator of our entire world. Have fun with your program "End Times", American people! There doesn't seem to be anything I can do for you all anymore. Bye, bye !!! - Rick Carter
PS - Both Obama and Romney claim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, which means they are both infected with some version of these ET installed terminal religious belief systems. So regardless of who you all decide to vote for, it can only lead one way in the end. They both want to see their King Jesus take total control of all existence one day. Rots of ruck everyone! - RC
Rick - I agree wit ha lot of what you say. I do think that before we redraft our Constitution, we try actually following it for a while - all of it. Increasing direct democracy will only result in mob rule - and right now the mob is on the receiving end of my tax dollars and is clamoring for more. The LAST thing I want to do is give then non-productive sector a greater say in the redistribution of the efforts of production.
Let's restrict government to ONLY those activities and functions specifically provided for under the Constitution as it's now written, reduce the federal burden back to a level to pay for only those things - plus a little more to buy back the deficit, and the the States and People figure out what they really think is important without Big Brother breathing down their collective necks.
If that doesn't show promise after a while, THEN we can have a constitutional Convention; for me, that's a VERY scary prospect because we could find ourselves in a theocracy like - or worse than - the one founders left Europe to escape.
More of those POOR Democrats speaking out, Clinton worth about 75 Million and this fundrasier is only 40K a plate. Not bad at all for all you working poor democrats. How do you afford it?
I'm fairly certain the working poor are not at the fundraiser.
Clinton is missing the point. The reason the right talks about Obama and not RMoney is that they don't like RMoney. No one likes RMoney. He's "the most unlikeable man in the world".
Really? You can't think of other people who are more unlikable? What an idiotic statement. You and Barbara Adams Jackson (what does she have an identity problem) must hang out.
And what has Obama been? He is the worst leader we have had, maybe even in our history of presidents, so Clinton saying anything about another candidate means nothing.
Just another smoke and mirrors by the liberals to throw people of the track of this train wreak.
The American tax payer does not owe the world a living, or the lives of our sons and daughters.
The Middle East is not deserving of any more of our hard earned money, let along the millions that we can not afford, that Obama has promised them. And that is just one example of the Obama/Clinton wasteful spending of American tax dollars.
How many more billions have been agreed to under the table for them and the worst social experiment in history, the EURO.
Steven - What can I say except you are totally wrong - end of story
Rant on you are wrong
Two of your own statements Steven just prove that you should vote for President Obama.
Your absolutely right - We do not own the world a living that's why President Obama has tried to reverse the trend of shipping our jobs overseas. He also doesn't want to sned our children off to start another war like Romney wants with Iran.
We do not need to subsidize any more of our tax dollars to the oil industry or provide protection for them to make a profit in the Middle East - That's why he is promoting alternative energy programs to relieve the dependency on Oil.
What has he done to keep jobs here? You do know Obama gave approval for the invasion of Libya, right? He promoted Solyndra. How did that work out? Your blind faith in him is mind boggling
And Iowa, nobody really wants to hear about "magic" Romney and how he'll save America by getting rid of SS and medicare, and making the country "business friendly" by giving the wealthy another tax cut. He's looking for some quick money by cutting the country up and selling it. What you don't realize is that all you get by kissing the wealthy and corporations on both cheeks isn't jobs or "trickle down" you just get chapped lips.
So, you go ahead for Romney in your over-emotional way, until he gets around to stealing all your money for the big corporations too, and then it'll be too late.
Have a good time, try not to have a heart attack or over use your brain or something. (yawn) Some people are just natural slaves, I guess.
Since all the post for Romney will be the same, non-truth repetitive garbage, I'm bored and outta here. Oh yes, you may get the feeling I'm voting for 4 more years with the current president, but with a new congress as soon as possible. You'd be correct, some of you for the first time time in your lifes. :-)
that's quite all right. My vote will cancel yours out, Nightwalker. I hate to waste my vote on a partisian hack, but if it cancels your vote out, it's probably worth it.
More proof that those on the left do nothing but repeat talking points instead of look at what those on the right are actually proposing. You do know that he doesn't want to get rid of SS, Medicare or Medicaid, right? He wants to REFORM them because they are PAYING OUT MORE THAN THEY TAKE IN.
Bill, no conservative is going to have any idea what "calamitous" means.
Sam - I do, I do !
It means the last 3 1/2 years of Obama.
I just heard John Boehner order the linguini with white calamitous sauce, so I think you're right.
nice avatar Sam, still obsessed with Bush I see...
Tool Much?
"Hope and Change"......Anyone got some change? I am broke and unemployed.
