Tim Pawlenty: No mixed signal on Republican veep choice

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Over the past month, Tim Pawlenty's response to questions gauging his interest in being chosen as vice president have ranged from "take my name off the list" to "anybody would be honored to serve if asked."

But speaking to reporters on Saturday after an impassioned address at the North Carolina Republican Convention, the former presidential candidate maintained he is not sending mixed messages.

"I think I can help [Romney] in other ways like this, being a volunteer for his campaign.  But obviously anybody would be honored if asked," Pawlenty said. "But, beyond that, I don't think those two things are inconsistent.  I'm trying to signal that I could best serve him in a different way, but anybody would be honored to serve if asked."

Speaking to more than 1,000 Republicans here in an important swing state, the former Minnesota governor and national co-chair of the Romney campaign showed why he has established himself as one of the GOP nominee's top surrogates.  He drew high praise for his speech urging conservatives to unite in opposition to President Barack Obama.  Many in the crowd said he they found Pawlenty to be an even more impressive speaker than Donald Trump, who took the stage the night before.

Pawlenty acknowledged that he has been able to find a level of comfort now that he had not been able to as a candidate.  Asked what accounted for the change, he said, "I don't know the answer to that, other than that I speak from the heart now, I don't particularly use a script now other than a few notes. I don't have a bunch of handlers telling me what to do and I just let it fly."

He fired up the North Carolina crowd talking about their importance as a swing state, throwing in much of the same speech he used while a candidate, but mixing it with praise for Romney's vision for America.  His message was that it was time for conservatives to come together.

"If we're going to win as a conservative movement, we got to recognize that we're a team," Pawlenty said. "And so when the Vikings or the Hurricanes and other teams go out and practice with each other as teammates, they don't go out and smash each other in the boards or knock each other out when they're practicing as teammates, do they?"

He added, "It's important that we recognize the coalition of conservatives consists of economic conservatives, and social conservatives and tea party conservatives and libertarian conservatives and security and defense conservatives and more.  And no one group can win the swing states or most states by themselves."

One of those team members includes Trump, who in his address the night before again brought up questions about the president's place of birth.  It's the reason some feel the business mogul overshadowed Romney last Tuesday when they held a fundraiser together -- the same day the former Massachusetts governor secured the 1,144 delegates to earn the Republican nomination.

"Donald Trump is trying to do what he can to advance the cause to try to get Mitt Romney elected president. ... So he's a somebody who can get attention, who can bring perspective to issues.  But also, he's part of team and a team needs to work together.  And that doesn't mean that everybody agrees on every issue," Pawlenty said.

Pawlenty would hug Hitler, if Adolf were a Republican donor. What a scummy politician. No ethics, no morals, nothing to slow him down in the pursuit of a "victory" for his political party. These Modern day Republicans stand for nothing, apparently, except the beauty of greed.

Yep, and obama is the epitomy of greed. Why ol george raised $15 million for obama in just 24 hours recently in california. Then all those wall st fundraisers for obama at $35,000/ plate and the raffles. All that talk about the wealthy and corporations last year must of had obama giving out secret deals at these events.

Even the donald may have a challenge in outraising obamas contributions from hollywood and wall st. Wonder how that vegas junket worked out for romney?

Oh holy hell my fine libbie friends - I was just taking a look at the early voting totals in Wisc.

HUGE turnouts in the red counties. Far in excess of the 2010 numbers.

As you all know I have been calling for a 7 point Walker win. Looks like I was wrong.

Gild yer knickers ladies, it's looking like we might get to a 10 point margin.

Shoot, if that happens you all don't think Obama will just up and quite, do you?

Oh and Amy dear, you have been around the block enough around here to know what it means when you invoke Hitler.

But yes, let us talk about 'scummy' politicians, cause after all YOU voted for Edwards.

How pathetic is that?

Lets talk about scummy politicians. . .

Jon Corzine is still walking around free, not charged with a crime, despite testimony before congress, and written verification of that testimony, that $1.6 billion in client funds were raided on HIS orders.

Think that has something to do with his bundling half a million for Obama AFTER his firm went belly up?

I do. I think ol'Jonny bought himself a get out of jail free card. You'd think the media would be interested in that- but, Obama is, after all, a democrat.

Funny thing- the statute of limitations will not run out on Corzine's crimes for another couple of years.

I'm betting CorIne skips the country once Romney gets elected. But, that's beside the point-

The list of "scummy" politicians with whom Obama associates himself is too long to list- but Corzine is right at the top of it. Seems anybody at all can buy Obama's dubious "friendship". It's called the Dollars to Donors program.

It's as scummy as it gets.

Let's talk scummy politicians, since that it what turns rights crank-case (they do love their corruption).

Vitter - Prostitute loving family values man.

Craig - Toilet tapping in the mens room family values man.

Cain - Family values man who has yet to turn down a woman.

DeLay - Corruption loving family values man. Loves screwing Indians in casinos from what I hear.

Walker - Governor once called 'unfit to run for president' who employs so many corrupt aides, they have begun to investigate them as John Does.

Shall we go on, and on, and on, and on, and on down that ridiculous path?

Romney came away fro MN with no elected delegates for Tampa.

All of Maine's delegates to the Republican convention are Ron Paul supporters, not Romney's. Funny how the msm choose not to mention this much. Can you imagine if an entire delgation from a state did not support President Obama's nomination? We'd never hear the end of the "divided party" scenerio. But many Republicans do not support Romney and the media shrugs.

How about Konarka, a company similar to Solyndra going belly up? You know, the one you gave a million plus to when you were Govenor of MA? Remember that Mittens? You ARE going to talk about that, right, since you have a moral objection to government money handed to green energy companies that fail.

Wait, what's that you say? Time to change the subject? I thought so.

Happy to NDD. Let's compare $1.5 million to $535 Million and that's just one of Obama's failures.

Konarka got nearly $20 million in additonal Federal money.

$170 million in Private Investment.

It stayed in Business 11 years after the $1.5 million Subsidy. Thats a lot of work for the employees that were there.

How many years of work did the Trillion dollar stimulus cover?

Do the math NDD. I'm sure this will be the lead strategy for the Tree House Gang on Monday.

Nah, let's see how he squirms out of it:

Two companies providing the same service. Both received government funds. If you blame one head of government for the failure of one company, rationality would dictate that you blame the other.

Wait, there's that word, RATIONAL.

Solyndra received $535 million in March of 2009 went bankrupt in September 2011. 2 years 6 months.

Konarka received $1.5 million dollars in January 2003 and went Bankrupt in June 2012 9 years 6 months.

Tell me NDD, who's investment left the taxpayers less exposed?

Try to be rational and see if you and Feisty can stop hiding behind each other's skirts.

Aren't you the same folks who complain that CEO's make 300% more than line workers?

If giving 500% more to a company is apples and apples, what difference does it make how much a CEO makes.

Squirm, now NDD.

Feisty: Timmy made a right wing mess of that bridge disaster. His Lt. Govenor Molnau was in China at the time, and refused to come back, she had a paper to read don't you know. She acted as head of MNDOT and had direct responsibility. Her Director of Transportation was at Harvard at a seminar, and refused to come back too. Doggone it, those disasters, where people died in a horrible way, can simply wait til the jaunts are over.

My daughter used to live near that bridge and went over it all the time. Thank God she was living in Italy, or it could have been her.

WCA: I think you may have just made one of the more delusional posts I have seen on FR in recent times. That is quite a conspiracy that you have cooked up. That somehow, Feisty has "special" protection that you don't get? Really? That the powers on Newsvine allow her to do anything?

Here's the truth of the matter. If an accusation of stalking were going to get someone banned on FR, Spanky and possibly YOU would have been banned for your behavior toward Amy. FR is not moderated like Newsvine is, and what wouldn't fly on Newsvine, doesn't get you banned on FR. The staff at FR has said more than once that if you post, you had better be prepared to take the heat. No one gets heat like Feisty, the difference between you and her is that she doesn't whine about it.

No. Not money: respond to the issue: if one head of government is held responsible for the failure of a company that got funds from TWO administrations, the other should be held responsible too.

Or be honest and admit that it is purely more invective against Obama, and no fact.

..says WCA, who apparently has nothing else to do but post on FR, while criticizing others for posting on FR:

To recap: WCA cannot answer a simple question: to wit: if rwnj's want to lie and denigrate their President for alleged special favors to Solyndra: they must be equally outraged by Romney's involvement in Konarka. Or stand branded as racists and hypocrites, which, of course they are!

WCA has treated George Zimmerman as a hero for murdering a 17 year old kid, whose crime was to go to the store for iced tea and Skittles, but has no comment on Zimmerman being remanded to jail for LYING.

WCA has supported a known misogynist, Rush Limbaugh and said that he is doing just fine after calling a college student a slut. Completely ignoring the fact that Limbaugh's ratings have taken a nose dive in key demographics and markets.

And WCA accuses another poster of "stalking" when HE initiates the conversation.

But the best part of all? When he is called out for the fool that he is...he insults others and then RUNS like a bunny.

You, WCA, may be the most inane person to post on FR:

Now, for those of you who are new, here are the only tricks that WCA has in his bag:

He will claim that he has manipulated this poster into reacting with anger.

He will claim that he is being harassed.

He will scream out to Spanky for help.

He will put words in this posters mouth.

What he will not do is answer the challenges posed herein.

Have a good Sunday, folks.

You post that Solyndra got $535 million in March 2009. That means O'bama signed the check during his second full month in office. Lets try to be objective. You got the world economy hanging by a thread with a raging fire below. Leadership means prioritizing and choosing between conflicting alternatives. Do you really think this is the time for Obama to prioritize revisiting his Financial Analysis 101 textbook while the world was in the greatest crisis since 1929? Ya going to sign it because it is an attempt to revive economic activity (banking was totally shut down), or are you going to take the time to look under the hood to make sure it isn't a Bush jr. stink bomb? This project was 1/2 of one percent of the financial rescue projects he was dealing with.
