Count House Speaker John Boehner as being a “nay” on New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan to ban the sale of large sugary drinks to combat obesity.
The speaker, an admitted chain smoker and Merlot connoisseur, issued a harsh rebuke to Bloomberg’s idea at his morning press conference at the Capitol.
Responding to a question from NBC News Boehner said, “I like Mayor Bloomberg, but are you kidding me!? You look, come on, don't we have bigger issues to deal with than the size of some soft drink that somebody buys?”
Boehner’s view echoes many of those on the right that feel Bloomberg’s plan is the ultimate example of the overreaching “nanny state.”
A congressional aide said there are no plans on either side to institute a federal ban on the sale of large soft drinks.

Only question I have for the Weeper of the House is, what is in his Big Gulp?
Vodka or Bourbon!
Stick with your sloppy Slurpee's Mr. Speaker!
LOL. Good one Feisty.
Always nice to start my day with a smile and you brought it today.
But seriously, I have to agree that what we don't need is the government dictating such things as this. Yes, we have an obesity problem in the country. But this is not the answer.
The answer to the problem would be for our over texting, computer generated children to get off the couch, away from electronic devices and exercise, exercise, exercise. At a bare minimum, get out and play a little so the exercise is more fun.
John Boehner clearly does not understand the actual proposal.
It does not keep anyone from buying 2 or more 16oz beverages and it does not apply to several drinks like coffee.
He is not from NY so why should he interject his thoughts?
What about States' Rights, John?
Good morning nomoresameo
Always nice to start my day with a smile and you brought it today.
It sure is. The Boner is just the clown to do it. Hey, Boner how about keeping your grubby hands off our entitlements?
Weeper of the House is just another 'bloviating ignoramus'!
Hey, Weeper, where are the jobs?
Good Morning Brian & Happy Friday to you!
Oh, don't get me wrong, I actually agree this is off limits!
Personal responsibility is what comes to mind...
So this is how the Barry campaign's cable network mouthpiece MSDNC is going to spin Barry's sh!tty jobs report today.
Try to change the subject to some nonsense non-troversy about Boehner.
Sorry, Luke, your old man is rolling over in his grave right now. He would be ashamed of you for what you consider a "news" story.
Joe,
"LIGHTEN UP, FRANCIS!"
Hi Feisty, for once I agree with you, I don't like the Speaker either, I don't know who is worse him or the previous one.
And to think that Bloombergr is a republican. It is the individuals responsibility to take care of his health.
Please Government get off my Back.
Joe in Albany
So this is how the Barry campaign's cable network mouthpiece MSDNC is going to spin Barry's sh!tty jobs report today.
Fiesty, the idiot from Albany is trying to be relevant again; poor thing!
Hey, Joey is the glass half or half empty? Never mind, you just seem to be able to NOT get anything right; including all those bogus links you post.
Bear in Mind, at least they were no jobs lost like the previous President lost.
You know Red, for a broad who brags about her own drinking exploits here on First Read as much as you do, it seems to me you protest a bit to much about Boehner's alleged drinking habits.
Must hit a little close to home, eh?
We know Joe, it's been months sense you've been able to cheer bad news on the economy. So go ahead and do your high fives, jumping up and down and hoping it gets even worse. But that's what you tea people Koch republicans do when there's bad news on the economy. You've been so depressed so long with all the good news in the last three and a half years.
Concerned citizen, Bloomberg was a democrat and republican and is now an independent.
The Dow is now down 230 on Barry's sh!tty jobs report.
You're doin' a heck of a job, Barry.
So, the Weeper is a Merlot connoisseur........Translation = Whine-O!
Hey Mo - What good news? Did the unemployment rate finally go below 5%? How about all the inflation? Price of gas drop below $1.84 a gallon? Did the government finally balance the budget, or start paying back the national debt? Do tell... what good news are you speaking of!!
Didn't hear Boehner crying when his compatriots,
Were trying their damnedest to insert large instruments into women's bodies against their will.
And against their doctors' permission.
Don't prate on about Big Goverment, all ye in favor of such invasions of privacy.
It just won't wash on here.
Nothing alleged about it - it is his own colleagues who have made the accusation...
Not at all!
But I would lay off the glue sniffing if I were you... it's scrambling whatever is passing as your brain these days!
Don't you dare touch my Big Gulp, but you have our permission to legislate and probe woman.
Can't make this stuff up folks. Republican hypocrisy on display.
Three hours after another sh!tty jobs report, with the unemployment rate rising, and US stock markets plunging, and not a peep out of the White House. Maybe they are planning to have AXE hold a Barry campaign rally on the steps of the NYSE??
These MORONS are clueless.
and fiesty is the epitomy of what happens to a mind on both drugs and booze. :0)
All i know it that since i stopped drinking soda, using table salt, and only drinking juices with not sugar added, i have lost 20 pounds, My High blood pressure is in check and i feel alot better.
I have sugar diabetes in my family so controlling my sugar intake as well as getting enough exercise is important.
if Boehner does not want to give up his big gulp, so what!!!drink as much as you want, i don't give a SH*t!!!!
Whoops!
This is the best you could do? lol
It's not even bench warmer worthy!
please carrot top! Coming from someone who's daily morning eye opener is a boilermaker... this comment falls a little flat... like you old wigs!
By the way, poor Barry will start joining you for that eyeopener, with these troubling job report numbers! In his case the eyeopeners he's downing will be on our dime.
An interesting fact that msnbc left out is that 27% of those folks who are still working are worried about losing their jobs in the near future. Have another shot carrot top!
Fiesty can rest easy now, knowing that the green lantern has come out of the closet and is now the offical gay super hero. That will give her strength and the world will make sense to her once again.
I looked at over 30 different statements on the "Big Gulp issue" 17 were from democrates. All said the same thing the Speaker did. Wonder why msnbc feel his same statement is the only one worth posting.
Joe in albany,,,
The WH did make a statement and bloombergTV reported it. It went something like this...
This now makes 27 months of continuous job gains.
The 67,000 added jobs in may is better than the jobs lost when obama took office.
The rise of the unemployment rate to 8.2% is better than the unemployment rate when obama took office in 2009.
This presidency has addded 4.3 million jobs since 2009.
Numbers go up and down monthly.
Surprised this WH representative clown didn't say that once obama was re-elected he might do better in his second term or that a revised GDP growth rate of 1.9 was better than when obama took office.
Doesn't take much to realize that the WH is ignoring the continuing trendline downwards of economic data by trying to make obviously bad numbers positive.
Boehner probably thought Bloomberg was talking about his boiler makers...
You get today's jobs numbers, the continued stock market plunge, the worsening overall economic conditions, and this is what MSNBC chooses to toss out?
Whats the matter, could find any Trump stories?
Keep hands of his Boner?
Sugary drinks ARE a big issue - just look how big those not-so-'sweet' bodies are?
and fiesty is the
epitomyepitome of what happens to a mind on both drugs and booze. :0)Whoops!
So now Red is going after spelling errors and Typo's.
Lo, how the mighty have fallen. Seems just yesterday she was deriding someone for doing the same thing to her. and she mocked them for it.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Feisty.
Come on First Read, what is Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann up to these days? Gotta get off the economy, eh?
american - blah blah blah
Several hundred words to say :
It's Bush's fault.
You're screaming in an echo chamber here at FR, my friend.
...other than mean spirited and obnoxious posts from carrot top, we're not seeing much libbie response to the dismal jobs report! Guess it's easier for her to attack Boehner than defend Barry's record and isn't that the real issue these days?
I was glad to see Romney air a speech in front of Solyndra's HQ on the news..... gotta keep hitting Barry on facts that he can't possibly ever respond to...or defend.
Not to worry, based upon the lack of quality in posts by the Albanian Idiot, his papa has rolled over in his grave so many times he has cored to the center of the earth. One low blow deserves another.
@Boehner - what's the matter, you suddenly against states rights? You going to start flip-flopping like your messiah Romney?
It's still early - more job reports will come in the next few months..to get better for sure.
But this bad report just coming out shows how much damages Bush has done, and Remember Mitch McConnell's pledge that GOP's only goal is not to work with Obama to revive the economy, but to defeat Obama, how? by further destroying the economy.
Democrats should have that McConnell clip on TV with info on GOP's refusal to support Obama's key job creation proposals.
Pigotry - the sad thing is McConnell basically said "to hell with the country" yet the buffoons on this post will march lock step with the GOP! No common sense at all. Talk about brainwashing - sheish!
Yeah, what we want is sky-rocketing obesity and all the health issues that will sky-rocket with it. And most of all we want to prevent any health care reform to handle said sky-rocketing health issues. We are the Teahadists, and we will bleed this country to death, ya hear?! -- John Boehner, et al.
Joe in Albany The Dow is now down 230 on Barry's sh!tty jobs report.
You're doin' a heck of a job, Barry.
I'm sorry, who is this "Barry" you keep referring to?
Oh, do you mean President of the United States, Barrack Obama?
God, I'm so sick of ignorant rednecks being allowed to vote and breed and talk at all.
This is no longer the land of the FRE. Sorry but the Government took the second E from me.
Zap Rowsdower
This is no longer the land of the FRE. Sorry but the Government took the second E from me.
Zapper,
Go back and read the topic. Unless, you live in New York you still got yout "E".
It's OK that the government is now telling us how much soda we can drink because it only affects New York? Really? It is not OK anywhere or for any party. Boy I wonder what your post would have read if a Republican was telling you how much soda you could drink. Please take off your political party hat before it sucks the rest of your brains out.
Leave it to a democrat to impose more limitations on what people can buy. Doesn't Doomberg know that people will buy 2 if they want more? I guess he didn't think it through far enough when you consider a Big Gulp is 32 ounces anyway. More inconvenience from a democrat... making people purchase 2 drinks that are harder to handle, just because he thinks size matters.
Liberal policies - making life more difficult for everyone.
Brianb-999431
Leave it to a democrat to impose more limitations on what people can buy.
Hey Idiot, Bloomberg is a Independent.
sure Jeff, Boomberg is as independent as a liberal can be.... lmao!
Jeff, Bloomberg will be anything that keeps him in office. Now let's take Barry... when he was younger and out of college he claimed to be born in Kenya, the last 4 years he is now insisting that he was born in Hawaii... like Bloomberg, Barry will also say anything that keeps him in office!
this is pretty much a non issue in a practical sense. Don't most fast food joints and deli's offer free refills?
from a political sense seems that liberal politician types still want to slowly controll us from the cradle to the grave.
To those fools that want to proclaim bloomberg is an independent, re-read marks post above (2.5)
bev, ever hear the expression "give a camel an inch and he will take a mile"?
Didn't san francisco try outlawing toys in mickey d's happy meals?
Hey Beaver, we both live in Illinois and this type of $h!t will be coming to our state as well. So if you like Government intrusion( and I'm sure you do) into every bit of our lives keep voting Quinn and Madigan who, by the way, failed to come to a conclusion on pension reform. At least the were able to raise the cigarette tax an extra dollar thou.
Hey Jeff - Doomsberg has changed his political party so many times in order to try to win elections, it isn't funny.... His primary ideology is democrat... He is an independent in name only. Just because I change the color of my socks doesn't mean my thought process changes... so who's the real idiot? I'd have to give it to the person who doesn't think beyond his nose.
Brianb-999431
Hey Jeff - Doomsberg has changed his political party so many times in order to try to win elections, it isn't funny.... His primary ideology is democrat... He is an independent in name only. Just because I change the color of my socks doesn't mean my thought process changes...
so you do change your socks, i though your crazy post were caused by the smell from not changing underwear and sock!!!!
this is good to know!!!!!
So a woman can have a baby sucked out of her uterus on someone else's dime but not be able to drink a soda she bought with her own money? Ok, that makes sense.
Ever heard of the Hyde Amendment?
Da noid, ever hear of comingling funds? The IRS takes a dimm view of it (comingling) when it comes to retirement funding and you quote the hyde amendment?
Dudelips22 - you're disgusting and ignorant. Oh that's right - makes you a Republican!
Dudelips22 is not a Republican.
Dudelips22
So a woman can have a baby sucked out of her uterus on someone else's dime but not be able to drink a soda she bought with her own money? Ok, that makes sense.
No you make no sense. Isn't you people who castrate food stamps? It doesn't make sense to the Fat Cat Robber Barons on Wall Street suck the livlihoods of the middle and poor classes by not paying taxes.
Please get serious! Your xenophobia is a tad bit out of control. That's scary to have people like you running around without the proper knowledge about abortion and Planned Parehood.
It's scary just having people like Dudelips22 running around unrestrained period.
Beverly, its equally scary having you post the most nonsensical statements day after day on here. Stupid comments regarding Fat Cat robber barrons, paying taxes, castrating food stamps (what does that mean anyway)?, your constant garbage spewing about news channels, your obvious lack of critical knowledge and understanding of any of the issues discussed, knee jerk personal attacks and most importantly such an incredible lack of self awareness. Your use of the word xenophobia is almost beyond laughable when you read your own posts day after day. Wow I am sure there were a few chuckles from the crowd after reading this post.
So Beverly - since you are so pro-abortion, do tell the audience how many abortions you have had. I mean if you are so proud of it, you won't mind revealing it, correct?
More from our women hating friend, brianb: Since you are so anti- women brian, do tell. How many women would you put in jail for miscarrying a fetus, or having an abortion, even to save her own life.
The vessel doesn't matter, right brianb; cell division does.
What services are you willing to provide the children when they are actually children? Fully fund Head Start, WIC, and special services to those in need?
Or let the children die?
Brianb-999431
So Beverly - since you are so pro-abortion, do tell the audience how many abortions you have had. I mean if you are so proud of it, you won't mind revealing it, correct?
Hey bev, you will tell him how many abortion you have had if he tell you how many woman have aborted his kids because he is a complete A*S Wipe. based upon his post i bet that number is around 25-30!!!!! or a max of 50!!!!
To all the Constitution loving, women haters:........Women have the Constitutional Right to Choice, remember Roe V Wade!
TeaPeople do NOTHING to enhance the Born Children......while they scream about protecting the UNBORN Children.......
BrianB - what a totally ignorant obnoxious post. Most women are pro-choice - I don't know any who are pro-abortion. And, what you don't seem to realize is that we actually believe each person should have control over their own bodies. I know - novel thought. You think men should be in control of everything women do. And, no you buffoon, that doesn't mean any of us have had abortions - although if someone has I'm sure there was a good reason. Maybe they were carrying a child of someone like you!
chilled - I have no problem with women choosing abortion but not on the taxpayers dime. As long as the feds provide 7% of PP funding and PP pays out 3% of their revenue for abortions I will consider that tax payer dollars are being used for abortions regardless of the hyde amendment.
I'm pro-choice consistently. A woman should have complete sovereignty over her own body. I should have complete sovereignty to decide what I put in mine, whether that be a 64 oz. soda, a pack of Camel Lights, some primo Carolina Skunkweed, or whatever. Keep Big Brother off our bodies!
So, women are forced to have children, they end up in foster care (paid for by tax dollars) or the mom is on welfare and has no prenatal care (paid for by tax dollars), the kid goes to public schools (paid for by tax dollars-oh and let's not forget all of the PE classes getting cut from public education which directly relates to the topic at hand and the obesity issue), the child is probably neglected, under educated, and will end up in a juvenile program (paid for by tax dollars) and then jail (paid for by tax dollars). If you allow the government to dictate what they are going to do with a women's body, where will it end? Men will end up on the short end of the stick sooner or later. I believe in a woman's right to choose and no, I have had no abortions and I never would have an abortion unless my life depended on it. In fact after 8 years of doctors, medications and procedures I am finally pregnant. 6 months today and I am having a little boy. He sure the sh&t will believe in women's rights!!
Bever in Chicago never fails to amuse me with her inane and irrelevant posts. Even her cut and paste habit fails to make a point!
How does one 'castrate food stamps'? And what readers could possibly 'like' or even understand her post???? Guess it's all part of the libbie mission statement.
Chucky Stuart said: I'm pro-choice consistently. A woman should have complete sovereignty over her own body.
A woman should have complete sovereignty over her body. There's absolutely NO argument from this pro-life person. The woman does NOT have the right over the newly forming body inside of her.
Thank you Brianb, that's exactly the point, but the far left chooses to ignore that little aspect of this issue!
Thankfully, the law says otherwise...
From the level of frustration I see here, I now have a better understanding of how much it bothers men to not be able to dominate women any longer! lol
There is a reason it's called PRO-CHOICE!
newdaydawning said: More from our women hating friend, brianb: Since you are so anti- women brian, do tell. How many women would you put in jail for miscarrying a fetus, or having an abortion, even to save her own life.
Tell me newday, why do you hate men so much? What has been done to you in the past that allows you to cast dispersion's on me because you feel my anti-abortion belief is so horrendous? Did you have a former husband beat you? Were you abused? Did the love of your life suddenly leave you for another woman? I mean your hatred towards me is so unjustified, there has to be a reason. Are you a lesbian and hate all men? Your blatant attempt to try to cast me as some sort of a woman hating man is ridiculous.
While you are so concerned about the child after it's born, and attempt to make me out to be the bad guy because you feel their welfare is at stake, it's only you that have that concern. In your world, it's better to have the child killed. Stop and think about that for a moment... are you a lucifarian? Do you believe in human sacrifice? What gods do you worship that allow this evil plotting come through your thought process? I don't think I've ever come across a person so anti-life than you. You can take care of the problem yourself... I'll turn around and not watch.
carrot top, Yet you continue to let truck drivers dominate you in exchange for alcohol? lol
I too agree with Brian's post!
More irrational posting from brianb: One responds to the obvious in your posting, brianb: what you said to Bev was beyond any decency, which is what we have come to expect from you.
So. Answer the questions: We know you hate women, we know that trying to control women is the only way you feel you can compete with them.
How many women do you want to see prosecuted for miscarrying? How many women do you want to see die by back alley abortions? I am old enough to remember that time. How many REAL children do you want to starve and refuse to educate by providing services?
No deflection brian...answer the questions.
Thankfully, the law says otherwise...
Doesn't mean the law is correct. Laws are meant to be changed, and eventually this one will be. Abortion on demand is wrong because it is in effect legal murder. There's no difference in killing an unborn person than there is in killing someone who has passed through the birth canal.
This is the thing the liberals just can't get through their thick skulls.
Same with his towel-boy MK!
When your incapable of answering reasonable questions, this is what you end up with! lol
I have to say, it's quite entertaining watching the spittle from these misogynists fly though!
Not sure why they're all worried about abortion when it's obvious none of them can even get laid!
Feisty, the anti choice nutcases are out in force. I swear it is a mental illness. Some form of thought disorder.
Here is the truth of the matter for the anti choice nutters posting today. Cell division does not abrogate the rights of the real live woman. I know you nutters hate women, and can't take that in, but the law is clear.
You don't like abortion, don't have one, don't cause one to happen. But, for all you mentally ill anti choice nuts out there, get out of the way of families making the most intimate decisions that families must make.
Thank God my youngest son is willing to stand for choice by volunteering as an escort to protect women in need. He is a proud feminist, and absolutely not rattled by the anti choice nuts he must contend with.
newdaydawning - Brianb wants to control women. Clearly he has problems with strong women - they probably won't even talk to him - so he believes that if he controls everything they do he'll be happy.
He calls us thick skulled but he has no problem with the men and women killed because Bush sent them to unnecessary wars. It's very telling about the type person he is - and it's not good.
And the fact that he doesn't give a damn about children who are here and suffering says it all. It is all about control not concern about the children.
You just have to ignore someone who is so hell-bent on controlling people. They're very sad individuals.
newday said: So. Answer the questions: We know you hate women, we know that trying to control women is the only way you feel you can compete with them.

By the first line in your post, I can tell you are one of those angry women who actually do hate men. While I raised 2 beautiful daughters you were probably cussing out the men who left you. I can't blame them.
Your first question is totally ridiculous. How many women do you want to see prosecuted for miscarrying? Are you that obtuse, or don't you know the difference between a miscarry and a forced abortion? Sounds like you need an education.
Back alley abortions - so you are admitting that the problem is endemic. Women want to have sex but don't want to use protection, or take precautions... or are you of the belief that it's a man problem? Your hatred of men is really showing through by this question.
Your entire premise is based on a society where there's no help for women who have children out of wedlock. I don't think we live in such a society. With your line of questioning, you really need to become educated about all the public programs available for women these days. There's always adoption, and from what I know about it, there are millions of families that are denied the chance because of availability. Your argument is growing weaker by the word.
newday said: Thank God my youngest son is willing to stand for choice by volunteering as an escort to protect women in need. He is a proud feminist, and absolutely not rattled by the anti choice nuts he must contend with.
You mean you didn't abort him?
Brianb seems to be a total stooge and a troll.
Obama/Biden 2012
Poor pathetic brian: it is about hating women with you, isn't it:
So, you have so little knowledge of Biology that you think that women can get themselves pregnant? What standard to you hold men to? If you are going to prosecute women who have miscarriages (and by the way, some of the mentally ill anti choicers have proposed that) you going to also prosecute the men?
No. Cells do not gain protected status. Real live women come first. What's next with you brian, protecting cancer cells, since that is cell division too?
I feel very sorry for your daughters, if you really have any. I have no doubts that they stay as far away from you as they can.
Brian, ask any normal sane person if murder is right and they will of course say no; there is no moral ambiguity there. However, on the subject of abortion, those same normal sane folks can be in stark disagreement. Though the stereotype is that liberals are pro-choice and conservatives are pro-life, I know many liberals who are pro-life and many conservatives who are pro-choice. This creates a moral ambiguity. There is no consensus as in the case of outright murder.
In cases of moral ambiguity, individual rights and freedoms MUST prevail. You say the law might someday be changed. I hope not. When the government legislates such moral ambiguity, this is the very definition of "authoritarianism". I'll choose freedom over authortarianism any day.
myvote - as I said, it's clear he has problems with strong women. And, he can't believe any of us are in great relationships with strong men who actually get it and respect our rights. The man has issues. If he truly has daughters, I feel sorry for them if they ever have a problem. He would be the last person they could go to without fearing he would put them down.
Obama/Biden 2012
More hate, and a further demonstration of disordered thought from brian b:
"you mean you didn't abort him?"
In brianb's little delusional world, women everywhere are rushing to get abortions. If you are for choice that means that all pregnancies must be terminated.
Just more evidence about how much he hates women.
@Seeking
Too True :)
Obama/Biden 2012
myvote - (love your avitar by the way!) And, he's one of these "too much government intervention" yet he wants to control women. Typical!
Amercia wrote: As long as the feds provide 7% of PP funding and PP pays out 3% of their revenue for abortions I will consider that tax payer dollars are being used for abortions regardless of the hyde amendment.
Me: But are they YOUR tax payer dollars. I'm fine with my tax dollars going towards PP and for them doing abortions. 3% of 7% of x tax dollars you pay probably adds up to a fraction of one cent to you, which is how much your comment is worth.
I am a male that is totally for free choice, leave the government out of women's lives
Brian B
do tell the audience how many abortions you have had. I mean if you are so proud of it, you won't mind revealing it, correct?
And how about you Brian, you gonna tell us (and your lady friend) how many times you have seen a doctor and for what reason? Been treated for syphilis, gonorrhea, genital herpes or substance abuse?
There are reasons that HIPPA was passed to keep medical records confidential.
Sanity: That's the part that leads me to believe that it is a mental illness. With the anti choice zealots like brainb, controlling others is all he can think about.
And he is the first to scream that government is too intrusive.
He needs help.
But I have always suspected that men like him do this because they have been beaten out by women once too often for jobs. They can't compete with women in the workplace.
I especially like the comment about how there are so many programs out there for unwed mothers, because only unwed women have abortions. Oh, you mean those programs that Mitt wants to cut so his rich buddies can pay even less in taxes are those the programs you are talking about?
I am pro choice, I believe in less government and I support separation of church and state. Having said that, I must admit yesterday I was taken back with the ban gender-based abortions bill was defeated.
I find it very unsettling, and very worried what will come next.
thetotas - I'm with you on this one. I truly believe abortion has to be a woman's choice. I am totally against abortion because of the gender of a child. That's very disturbing.
yeah--sure we have bigger issues--such as renaming post offices or mandating vaginal probes?
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
Nurse---Congress has spent more time on recess/vacation than any that I can remember, have done no jobs legislation or infrastructure legislation and Boehner wants to discuss "bigger issues". We're still waiting, Mr. Speaker.
steeler -- "Congress has spent more time on recess/vacation than any that I can remember, have done no jobs legislation or infrastructure legislation and Boehner wants to discuss "bigger issues". We're still waiting, Mr. Speaker."
I trust that you understand that the Senate is part of this Congress. We're still waiting, Mr. Leader.
Poor Boehner, he tries so hard to be relevant. I am so tired of his mantra "the American people want to know, where are the JOB". However when it comes to legislate bills, it's to name post offices (oxymoron, since the repubs. are bent on destroying the USPO, or bankrupt it with laws to provide a 75 yr. retirement fund so they can buy stock in UPS ). Pass bills with so much pork they know Dems. will not pass, etc. etc. I sure hope Ohio will give him a retirement party.
New GOP tack: I hve the unfettered right to drink 32oz. sodas until I'm diabetic, can't work, lose my job and health insurance and have to go to the emergency room. Let's get real about Public Health--we need to promote healthy lifestyles to reduce medical costs.
That said, Bloomberg's emphasis was off. He should have said that people have the unfettered right to purchase as much soda as they want so long as they buy individual 12oz. servings of it. That way, some of the money can be set aside to pay for the future health tab that inevitably comes from over-consumption of anything.
Will restaurants have to pull the all you can drink fountains out as well? Just buy a 16oz cup and go fill up a dozen times.
To :lisa s-1749992
Ok Lisa, thanks for the additional info, more power to my point. So he has flipped all over the placed. Either way his idea of government are bad, bad, hell they suck. He has too much time on his hands.
Hi NOLimitSoldier50,
thanks for the added notes. Bloomberg also wanted to tax visitors that drive into NY.
I guess First Read has nothing else to print today after the bad news on the economy. It is precisely now when we need laughter and entertainment to lift us up from depression. Quiet Friday.
Has anybody seen Beisty and her beasts. I swear that they get together before they begin Posting.
One thing I hope they do in Illinois is limit the amount of alcohol redheaded ditzes can buy. Everyone knows that Gingers and alcohol are the leading cause in stupidity.
You look, come on, don't we have bigger issues to deal with than the size of some soft drink that somebody buys?”
Yes you do Mr. Boner, but all your Congress does is hunker down in your bunker and throw potshots at the opposition. You might as well take a look at the obesity crisis that is threatening to overwhelm medicare.
Subsidizing corn production (red states) makes no sense when consumption of high fructose corn syrup is a major contributor to obesity. Also, subsidizing the production of tobacco (red states) runs counter to the national interest.
Many more Americans will die from self inflicted illness than any series of terrorist attacks would accomplish.
I think they might want to close fast food all together, come to my house, make sure I am cooking the proper foods, wipe my ass for me after going to the bathroom and tuck me into bed at night. Because for God sakes, I sure in hell haven't been doing it right for the last 40 years. THIS IS SOOOO STUPID. Can the Government get involed in anything else??

Note my post 11. I am not in favor of nannycrat government. Imagine, it is illegal to provide self service gasoline in OR and NJ. I was threatened with arrest in OR.
However, there is a difference between intrusive nannycrat legislation and Federal Programs that increase the probability of disease like the subsides for corn, tobacco and sunflower production.
I'm happy to let you wipe your own ass, while I campaign for the government to save money and save lives by getting out of the economic fine tuning business.
Shouldn't John Boehner be more concerned that his House of Representatives "has done more toward making talk-show host punchlines that actually serving the American People"?
I want to know where those "job creators" are that are getting the tax breaks to create those jobs? I want to know where those Republicans that got into Congress in 2010 are with their platform that they would help job creation? These are the guys with the big promises - and no one, but no one, holds them accountable for making those promises. And they don't work with the Dems to make it happen. And don't give me the Keystone XL crap - the only one going to benefit with that is Canada and the losers are those that have to live with the byproduct. One guy sitting in the White House is not going to get those freeloading corporations to create jobs. And small business already said that nothing the White House does is going to make a difference. What makes a difference???? People that have jobs can buy stuff - and until those corporations start bringing the jobs here to the US that aint going to happen - they are making too much money overseas. Get real, people
It's as simple as repealing NAFTA and reinstating Glass-Steagall Financial Reform Act of 1936. Wanna see John poop his pants and the rest of the congressional GOPers? Bring these two things up.
For once I agree with Boehner. We gotta stop interfering with the natural selection process. When rednecks were not smart enough to wear seatbelts or helmets, we wrote laws. Look were that got us. There are more ignorant rednecks than ever. Red States are over flowing with the inbreed, tea party idiots. LET THEM EAT CAKE, AND WASH IT DOWN WITH GALLONS OF MOUNTAIN DEW
Tell Boehner that Bloomberg is talking about sodas and not booze!!!!!! Strange Boehner's words about Bloomberg could as easily have been directed towards the gop .
Isn't free enterprise about supplying what people want and need. Instead of banning the super big drinks eduate people about the surgar content and make it look like a bad choice rather than not giving one the opportunity to weigh the evidence and decide whether it is a good idea or not to buy the super big soda. Bloomberg seems to think that people who desire the super size won't buy two smaller ones or that a store won't make free refills possible where one can refill the plastic cup as many times as he wants getting as much or more sugar than from one big super size drink.

There are many valid arguments on both sides of the deterrent laws compared to legalization of drugs issue. Rep. Ron Paul (and his Senator son) argue that we are merely creating criminals and subsidizing the Cartels with our drug laws.
Other conservatives advocate harsher penalties as a deterrent and insist free enterprise doesn't apply here. Personally, I believe that sugar and high fructose corn syrup are just as addictive and dangerous to our national health as marijuana.
The place to start is to eliminate subsidies to potentially harmful agriculture products.
Gee, state of the economy this week and this is all he's got. So aptly named, this guys a walking dick. Has done absolutely nothing but the bidding of his puppet masters. Might as well paste a picture of Koch over his face whenever he appears in public. Jeez what an embarrassment, hide your RNC buttons lest you be associated with this pile of stupidity.
It's odd, but it seems like a lot of the liberal leaning posters are here commenting on this nonstory. I was over at the discussion about the jobs report, and there weren't a whole lot of them over there. Hmmmm, makes me wonder.
Not so odd, Boner's got nothing of substance to say. There will be no good faith jobs legislation coming out of The House, so we might as well entertain ourselves with obesity.
Incredible isn't it? The crippling debt, poor job growth and we're talking soft drinks. Wow! Let's talk nonsense.
Boehner needs a Big Gulp container for his tears over whatever he wants to dramatize. Malnourished children, struggles of the disabled, and the suffering of the elderly help him man up and go cold. Bad golf weather brings out the cup.
Hey Bonehead, Bloomberg said soda not your booze so don't get all excited. Hopefully November of 2012 we will be spared your idiotic statements while doing nothing about good/any legislation
Most of you just don't get it do you? You're all up in arms about the Nanny State (i.e. Democrats right?) Let's go back some 50 years ago when a nickle would buy a soft drink from a machine........a 6 or 7 oz soft drink! If we were lucky, we had the money for TWO! bottles equaling 12 or 14 ozs. We weren't obese! Today, the wonderful corporate world that you right wingers love so much is more than happy to sell your kids thet big ol' 32 oz Big Gulp. WTF? Think you idiots..........sometimes your bad habits and total stupidity force an Nanny State on all of us!
As New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is attempting to reduce the population's exposure to > 16 oz. soft drinks, he is quite comfortable in having his political constituency drink beer 'til they puke...hmm...does any of this make sense ?
I guess gw caused the current crisis in europe i do beleive it is the socialist gov that have failed, notice our press won't say that these left wing nut gov are responsible!!!!!
