NBC's Garrett Haake
Mitt Romney (R) on the campaign press bus heading to the former site of the company Solyndra.
UPDATED AT 3 PM ET
FREMONT, CA -- When Mitt Romney arrived at the gates of the bankrupt solar energy company Solyndra this afternoon, he didn't do it before cheering supporters or backed by a large coterie of staff.
He pulled up on the press bus with the rest of his traveling media contingent.
Romney's staff, fearful, they said, of being blocked by the administration from holding an event here, kept the location of today's press conference secret, even from the press who cover the candidate.
On Wednesday, reporters who cover the candidate were told to get themselves from Las Vegas to San Francisco for an "event" in the bay area on Thursday. No other details were given, except to be ready at a hotel parking lot early this morning.
Professionally curious, the Romney press corps set about cracking the secret code of the event and breaking the story.
"I've got nothing for ya," one aide told NBC.
"Sorry, can't help you," replied another Romney staffer via email, complete with a frowny face emoticon.
And so it was this morning, when 31 members of the national and local press boarded a bus in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express, armed only with educated guesses – no reportable confirmation – that Romney was headed to Solyndra.
Message discipline, and an inner circle that sees leaks as treasonous, won this round.
The secrecy, one top aide explained, was to prevent the Obama administration blocking the event from taking place. The aide did not explain how that might happen.
The aide also said the campaign did not fear protesters disrupting the event, as pro-Romney protesters and staff did to Obama senior adviser David Axelrod this morning at an event on the steps of the statehouse in Boston.
Then, Romney boarded the bus.
Beyond a cursory wave and good morning, he didn't chat with the press, but rode in relative silence with a small group of aides and a few Secret Service agents surrounding him in the front of the bus.
Romney was asked why the event -- which ultimately lasted only about 10 minutes on a Nimitz Highway median -- was kept so secret. He offered a somewhat conspiratorial answer.
"I think there are people who don’t want to see this event occur, don’t want to have questions asked about this particular investment, don’t want to have people delve into the idea that the president took a half-a-billion dollars of taxpayer money and devoted it to an enterprise that was owned in large measure by his campaign contributors," Romney said.
This is the former Massachusetts governor's first trip to Solyndra, but he regularly highlights its failing, despite support from governmental loans, in his stump speeches and fundraisers.

This is gonna hurt team O.
Let's see AXE is in Mass. getting heckler by Mitt supporters, and Mitt is at Solyndra.
Sticking it to Obama on his horrific investments with our money.
Nice job sir.
Sounds like ole Mitt and his staff are pretty organized, and I'm willing to bet Nasty DumbFux $10,000 there's not even one "community organizer" among them.
Wanna bet, Nasty?
LMAO!!!!
Hehehe! This is GREAT stuff!
HA! That Axelrod is an arrogant SOB who talks over everyone else, never allowing anyone else to get a word in. I can't stand it when the Sunday morning shows have him on as a guest. He ALWAYS seems angry and literally yells at anyone else on the show that tries to get a word in. He make a total ass of himself every time he speaks!
As for the Solyndra trip... HAHAHAHA! What a BRILLIANT move! Highlighting the 'success' of Obama's 'investment' of US Tax Dollars!
I have to agree that the money invested didn't work out for America at that time.
But I am still backing the president for making the effort in trying to help every American live a better more efficient future. Bush and every republican will continue to support oil companies regardless of how it effects America.
The old adage "Nothing ventured nothing gained" holds true here. I hope that President Obama will continue to support further efforts to bring alternative fuel sources to America during his second term.
Going to Solyndra is not Romney The Nominee, but Romney the Vulture of Bain Capital to be there to assess how much profit he can make
And that folks, is the crux of the Romney campaign; they can't explain anything. Ask Romney how he will achieve 4% unemployment, no explanation. Ask Romney how he will cut the debt, no explanation. Ask Romney how is stellar record of driving Mass. into the toilet qualifies him as a presidential candidate, no explanation. And the list goes on and on. Loser Romney, loser staff. Let's turn them all back to the job they do best .. fluffing porn stars.
Hey Spanky
David Axelrod - “You can shout down speakers, my friends, but it’s hard to Etch A Sketch the truth away.”
Bam take that; Spanker!!!
This isn't gonna hurt the Obama-Biden campaign at all. Mitt and his non-spelling campaign of birthers and rich old white men that are dying off and scared of it, that's pretty much the crux of his whole schtick. LOL
Why the secrecy? Because Romney is moonlighting as an agent of Bain - a scavenger to study a corpse.
The one thing that is overlooked because it went belly-up is that Government invests in startup industries like they did in the 60’s with the aerospace industry and not all of the companies that our government backed was successful.
These are businesses and industries that cannot get the needed financing from the private sector without a government back loan.
Solyndra and a few other companies that failed represent about 5% of the money invested in “Green Technology” which is much better than the 20% failure that Mitt claims Bain experienced.
Romney had to visit secretly because, had they known ahead of time, the employees would have found a reason not to be there. No one wants to meet Romney and listen to him spout his lies.
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney would have more credibility if he has gone to Iraq and Afghanistan to hold a press conference there to assess how many trillions of dollars wasted and how many great Americans died because of Bush
Which more than can be said for the previous owners.
What part of profit don't you get? With no profits there are...
No Jobs
No Social Programs
No Public Education
No Roads
No Hospitals
No "free" contraception
...no nothing
If a government could magically produce these goods and services don't you think all the poor countries of the world would legislate this infrastructure into being? It's comments like yours that makes me think some people do believe that money grows on trees.
Do you understand that 500M+ that Solyndra spent had to come from somewhere and now it can't be used to build a road, employ a teacher, pay for unemployment benefits?
Invested by whom? Can you provide a link please?
What employees? The company is bankrupt. They already have a reason not to show up.
Gee, as a kid, I remember rockets blowing up on launch pads. We didn't end the space program. I remember the Challenger blowing up. We didn't quit.
Americans don't roll over and quit because things didn't work out as we'd hoped. Being an American means you keep trying.
The American thing is to try, try again. The right wing thing is to cry, cry again. Sniveling wimps.
Hey Spankster,
Do you think Mitten's will give "W" some of the credit. I mean afterall, Solyndra was "W"s brain child, and he backed it. Now, when Bush passed the torch Obama was naive enough to take it. So lets wait and hear what Mitt the Unfit has to say.....
So Romney fabricates a reason for 'secrecy', but in reality the real reason was probably to keep protesters away. We don't like Romney here.
If the Rombot has a way of stopping Chinese subsidized solar panel companies in China from crashing the market, he should man up and enlighten the world. Even the Chinese are selling their panels at a loss because of their reckless actions.
Oh that's right, because Teapublicans never made any mistakes like say...with the savings and loan bailouts that the Neil Bush was hip deep in.
Oh yeah, I forgot the right wing selective memory aphasia.
Rombot.Has.Nothing.
um just wondering here but how does this help Romney????
all i can think of is Romney tried to make Obama look like a evil repressive person by saying Obama wouldn't have let Romney go to solyndra if they didn't do it in secret. if this is the case, they did a poor job of it.
although i do have to give credit where it is deserved Romney's team did a good job of suppressing any leaks of information to the media.
David Walker, You are right we didn't quit when there were problems in the space program. However, the space program was strictly a government function headed by a Federal Government Agency (NASA). The main reason we pushed so hard was JFK was upset when the USSR beat us into space. He promised we would see Americans on the Moon, and we did. NASA built a fleet of space vehicles and helped other nations to build the International Space Station, this continued through 2011. President Obama pretty much halted the space exploration programs and grounded the space shuttles and failed to replace them. We now have to depend on Russia to get our Astronauts to and from the space station.
There is a big difference between funding government agencies and research and development controlled by the government than just handing over 500 million to a civilian corporation/business especially without any government oversight, and was done mostly for a political photo op. Those who claim Bush started it won't admit that the Bush Administration did not complete the deal. The money came from Obama's stimulus money.
And then Romney erased all the hard drives.
Oh for Pete's sake Romney, if you must wear a tinfoil hat and pal around with the bloviating ignoramus, and be even more paranoid than Nixon or McCarthyism, the Mormon Mothership is waiting for you to board the "aircraft" to return to your planet where the "trees are the right height."
Romney -- He's not in it for you.
sfcret:
It may have been strictly a government function, but it was handled by civilian contractors. That makes such projects no different from the railroads that crossed the United States. Remember the rail tycoons would not build railroads without incentives. It is not different from the cash register dams, or the TVA or the CVP. It is the same with the REA.
We have bailed out Lockheed, Penn Central, Chrysler twice, and so it goes. You didn't see Bain Capital or any other venture capitalists stepping up to do that, did you?
No one is willing to step up and take on the challenges and the costs of alternative power. Continued reliance on foreign energy sources is most assuredly a matter of national security, and I think given your career, you know that.
David, Comparing the energy companies like Solyndra and other alternative energy sources to those of the 1935 era, like the Rural Electric Admin (REA) is like comparing apples to oranges. Remember the REA was established to provide electricity to rural areas, since only about 10% had electric power and 90% of urban areas had electric power. Most of the dams provided two things, jobs and electricity to many areas of the country. That is not the case today, as 100% have electric power today. What the government did 70, 80 years ago is really not relevant today.
Have a nice day. BTW, what is the CVP? I thought I knew most, if not all, of the federal programs from the 30s and 40s but this one escapes me.
sfcret:
Central Valley Project, which by the way generates electricity, but is far more valuable for both flood control purposes, and even more for its irrigation water.
You still haven't addressed the issue that there are no venture capitalists who are willing to take this on. Who will, if not the government?
I thought the government investment in the project began before Obama's time, why now that it failed, it became Obama's thing? I, too, have not seen any explanation of what Mr. Romney is planning to do differently, or otherwise, how he intends to govern and turn things around for us.
David, Thanks for the reply, I should have known that living in CA. I am not good on initials. If there was money to be made in the solar industry there would be a lot of people investing. Because private investors want to make a profit on their investments. I believe Boone Pickens invested, or was going to, into wind farms but backed out because it was unfeasible. (We have some wind farms here in CA, but now the animal rights people are complaining because a few birds have been killed and others complain because they look bad). Solar energy for wide use will never be effective, and solar has been around for years, so it is not a new energy source. I believe President Carter had solar panels at the WH to heat the pool or something, and I knew people who have had solar panels on their homes, mostly for swimming pools and hot water heaters for years. Like I said back in the 30s there were no venture capitalist (in fact there wasn't a lot of money) and a lot of the New Deal Programs set up by FDR was to create jobs mostly and to provide electricity and roads and other infrastructure projects because of the depression and those projects really never got completely out of the depression, in fact, it was WWII.
There are currently many sources of energy in the U.S. (Nuclear, wind, hydroelectric, natural gas, oil, and coal). I believe most of the federal money being spent by Obama, if not all, is for solar and algae(?). I believe we should drill in ANWR, off the east and west coast, and on federal lands where known oil deposits exist. We should also build more nuclear power plants, Obama said he wanted more nuclear power plants, but I don't believe any new ones have been permitted.
That's the best I can do, and I know it won't change your mind so I guess we just have to agree to disagree.
One people that so many fail to relize is that even if we extracted every drop of oil from this country, we would still have only 2% of the worlds reserves. That is why we import oil. That and the cost of drilling here is very expensive. There are thousands of liscences to drill right here in the US that oil companies have not acted on simply because of the expense. The most bitter pill to swallow is to realize that this economy was built not on oil but on very "chep" oil. Oil will never be cheap again. Anyone that thinks so is just dumb . There is simply too much worldwide demand for it. Whoever wins the energy war in the 21st century wins the game!!!
Moonridre12 -- The same thing goes for Operation Wide Receiver (now referred to as Fast and Furious). To mix my metaphors, the rightwing are like an old dog that can't learn to let go of an old bone. Seriously, nontroversies and conspiracy theories indicate the need for distraction from real issues, red meat to fire up the base, and low-information voters who will fall for it all because they are ignoramuses.
I hate to point this out, but sfcret is right about government projects working because we don't give up. Without the government, a couple of the marvels of the modern world, the Panama Canal, and the Hoover Dam would not have happened. I guess the government can do some things right. So, lets let them. Pass the infrastructure bills. Turn solar energy into a government project. Do the things that have always worked in this country, and stop the lies about how government projects can't help create jobs. It's just stupid, and easily disproved. One thing we do know: handing money out to the private sector ends in that money disappearing in graft and corruption with nothing to show for it.
As usual, the republicans are completely, and historically, wrong. Again.
Well it's only fair that Romney would go there the only problem is Obama doesn't have enough time to go to all the companys that Romney has bankrupted . Thats ok though we already know all about them
Continued daily proof the GOP has lost their honor. Daily for over 3 years now. More to come tomarrow and into the forseeable future. And republicans continue to carry their unhonorable water. Weird and flat strange you people are. Mitt may make a fine president once in office, but if you have to win the election without a shred of honor (obvious liar), why would people back someone so phony?
"I think there are people who don’t want to see this event occur, don’t want to have questions asked about this particular investment, don’t want to have people delve into the idea that the president took a half-a-billion dollars of taxpayer money and devoted it to an enterprise that was owned in large measure by his campaign contributors,"
Now why would Obama want to do that?
Losing $500 million of taxpayer money on a venture for Obama's campaign contributors is certainly scandalous, but even more troubling is the $800 BILLION that was spent to supposedly bring back jobs - and the results are in - There are still more than 1.3 million fewer people working in May 2012 than when Obama took office - per the official government Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Even worse, an estimated 6 million new workers have entered the workforce since Obama took office - only to find no jobs available. And we have gone $5.7 TRILLION further in debt since the end of fiscal 2008.
No matter how people try to 'spin' it, Obama has been a huge FAILURE.
Oh, they will spin it.
If Republicans could only govern one fraction as well as the politic and play dirty tricks.....
Smells fishy. Another play at dividing the country (unhonorable). We stand neck deep in freedom and Romney wants us to believe Obama would stop him from having a press conf. at Solyndra. A complete phony as is the entire new GOP. History books will show the shame republicans have brought to this country the last decade.
GOP Scotus said " Corporation is People" The idea is to Screw-up the Middle Class to bears all the Private Corporation debt.
GOP BIGGEST 16 TRILLION SECRET THEY DON'T WANT TO REVEAL

"and are as follows bailouts" you are so smart jack335. did YOU make the determination that these are "BAILOUTS"
GM
CHRYSLER
are bailouts.
the democrats are the party that are building the socialist machine. WAKE UP! How would building a socialist machine benefit the republican party. screwed up thinking.....
Oh great now a secret news conference, that fits right in with Romney's secret meetings with his puppet master David Koch. I've seen a lot of things in politics in my life but the way these Republicans [if they are Republicans] are acting these days it's almost like watching the rise of the Nazi party in Germany circa 1930........
As far as their puppet nominee Mitt Romney or should I call him the Glenn Beck of the Republican/Tea Party. I have watched this rodeo clown for years now and I’m hard pressed to remember when I actually heard him speak the truth. I’ve come to believe that he’s either a pathological liar or is totally delusional and can’t distinguish between reality and fantasy. Whatever the case may be, anyone thinking of voting for a guy that lies ALL the time should seriously reevaluate their position. We need a President that talks to the American people honestly and isn't controlled buy a few billionaires; as a matter of fact we already have a President like that.
Now why would the administration want to prevent Mitt from touring Solyndra?
It's a in America? Mitt has the same freedoms to travel in America?
Seems a tad, oh I don't know crappy.
Oh well. Obama gave Solyndra $535 million. Let us behold it's glory, shall we?
Capitalism is creative destruction.
At least Obama did not cause the worldwide recession of 2008 which led to untold trillions of wealth to disappear.
Solyndra is just one example of how businesses can not succeed in the Great Recession.
Surprise, surprise, leaping to conclusions, and 2nd favorite past time of the brown nosing GOP/TP. Did Obama ever indicate he would prevent Romney from touring Solyndra? Come on Sparky, for once in your live, post a citation - and show us where Obama has been quoted as saying he will block Romney from touring Solyndra.
What in the H is this Pig guy talking about? WOW!
I assume he is insinuating that someone else (a conservative) single-handedly caused the 'worldwide recession of 2008'. What a simple-minded view.
And I find it interesting that
REALLY? Not one single business succeeded during the 'Great Recession'? Not one! They ALL went bankrupt!
MAN! I had no idea!
Pig... maybe you should just go back to the pen... I hear there is some nice fresh slop for you there... (provided by your buddy... good old BHO)
RedDevPS
I think the real take-away here is that:
I understand that you libbies would not recognize this since "YOUR" favored son has never done any of these things.
SickOfTheBickering -
I am wondering if others are sick of bickering from you (SickOfTheBickering)
Nice job, Pig...
In typical liberal-lunatic fashion... when all else fails attack the person that shows you for what you REALLY are.
Well done!
Ah - SOB, the planning that went into eliminating bin Laden was quite bold, and in case you didn't hear, successful. But hey, keep on posting your rubbish - most folks recognize bullsh!t from a bee-atch when they see it.
Hey Spanky - what's the matter? Cat got your tongue, or are you too busy spankin' the monkey to surface for air and post that citation. I mean, being a big time $500/hour lawyer and all, surely you must know something about using citations to back up your arguments.
Haven't heard that term since the old days on the msnbc message boards!
double post
the reason for the secrecy is that is that didn't want any hecklers or protesters there. like the ones that the Republican RETARDS pay to show up at the campaign speches that the democrats hold.
Oh goody - who doesn't ♥ them some cloak & dagger sh!t!
Super secret press conferences now?
What is Willard... 13?
What a JOKE!
The secrecy, one top aide explained, was to prevent the Obama administration blocking the event from taking place. The aide did not explain how that might happen.
Apparently he is so paranoid that he feels everyone else is paranoid as well.
Spanky, the administration did not prevent anyone from doing anything. Romney's camp was "fearful" with no reason to back that up. What are they afraid of?
Read the article and stop trying to distort the facts.
fieden. It is becoming increasing apparent that spanky is not capable of reasonable reading comprehension.
fielden - Romney's group is fearful of being asked any question they don't have on their list. They know Mitt can't answer anything he hasn't been spoon fed by his handlers. Even when he knows the question, he sounds like a robot. They are afraid of anything Romney has to do "off the cuff," since he has shown time and time again he isn't capable of handling even the slowest of curve balls.
Obama/Biden 2012

What is Willard... 13?
What a JOKE!
And a coward too. Do you think you, me, and Seeking Sanity can make it to greet our President and fellow Chicagoan when he comes home tommorow?
Hmmmmmmmmmm...... a double secret press conference, and fear mongering that works for the dimmest bulbs among us. This is GOP SOP.
How professional of the Romney campaign--a two-fer---an unwarranted slam at the Obama administration and trickery with the media. That'll teach Mr. Haake to eavesdrop on Romney's secret fundraisers (never mind that he was using a microphone at the time).
Willard only went to Solyndra to gather film footage to use (he thinks) against President Obama.
Afterall, there's lots and lots of film footage (not staged) that will successfully be used against Willard.
Willard, the Snake, Romney!
Can't imagine a class act like Obama looking at Mittens' visit as anything more than suggesting Bain look into Solyndra as an investment opportunity. You know, the creating more good jobs in America that Obama is all about. Wow what a scary paranoid individual Mitt really is.
awww, dont go away mad feisty, just go away.
Nearly a trillion spent on creating jobs since he took office...... result 1.3 million less in the work force. This Solyndra thing is just one example of a poor job by this President. Question the all the liberals on this site. For two years the Dems had the house and senate why didn't they pass a budget then? On Bain Capt. Was Romney with Bain at the time of the GST steel closing?
Not God Bless America. God Damn America..... I disagree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romney is pathetic. He really does seem to be completely hollow.
I would like to see the Obama campaign focus on Solyandra, even if that company failed, and talk about the importance of developing alternative energy technology in the face of global warming. Even as we speak, New Mexico is battling a historically huge wildfire, and many states are experiencing record-breaking high temps.
In Maine, the Tea Party governor has vetoed research and development money that was slated to help develop wave turbine technology in Eastport, (an area Downeast that could badly use new industry.) In my opinion, Republicans have been and continue to be, tremendously short sighted about the need to develop green industries, for the sake of our economy as well as the climate.
Hi Amy B. Portland, ME
In Maine, the Tea Party governor has vetoed research and development money that was slated to help develop wave turbine technology in Eastport, (an area Downeast that could badly use new industry.) In my opinion, Republicans have been and continue to be, tremendously short sighted about the need to develop green industries, for the sake of our economy as well as the climate
I understand. I think it's because republicans have the mindset of those who lived in the Dark Ages.
Amy, my computer says it's 48 degrees here in Chicago the day before June. Memorial Day weekend it was in the 90s.
I agree with you Amy. Even though Solydra was a failure, it does not mean that government investment in green energy should stop. Forward. That is the theme. Nothing demonstrates the forward looking ideology of Obama better than the investment in green energy in contrast to continuing big oil subsides and increased investment in fossil fuel infrastructure that Romney backs.
In my view, renewable green energy is the most vital emerging market in human history. The ability to create energy in the past has made oil producing nations wealthy and powerful. I see this holding true while the world switches over a century from oil to renewable. A power shift will occur from oil producing countries to countries with advanced technology in manufacturing renewable energy. I for one would like America to be in a position of power when this transition finally takes place. As oil becomes more scares and prices raise, more and more consumers and manufactures will be willing to switch to green energy.
Obama, Green Energy, Forward. Romney, Big Oil, Backward. That would be the ad I would be running if I was the Obama campaign responding to negative ads on Solydra.
If Mittens wants to run our country as a business he better come up with a product the rest of the world is willing to buy. Any good business executive knows in order to stay in business you must be profitable. Alternative energy develoment is going to be the best chance at making America a profitable buiness. As it stands the only product we can sell to the rest of the world is the American war machine. Oh, maybe that's why he doesn't want to see cuts to the defense budget. Oh well, it was just a thought...
Garrett Haake
I'm starting to like you.
The aide also said the campaign did not fear protesters disrupting the event, as pro-Romney protesters and staff did to Obama senior adviser David Axelrod this morning at an event on the steps of the statehouse in Boston.
amy, doesnt this say it all about your phony, crony communist crook?
the president took a half-a-billion dollars of taxpayer money and devoted it to an enterprise that was owned in large measure by his campaign contributors," Romney said.
"an inner circle that sees leaks as treasonous"
A bit over the top with the rhetoric, wouldn't you say?
Not to mention... How the heck would good old Garrett know WHAT the 'inner circle' believes since HE IS OBVIOUSLY NOT PART OF IT!
Typical MSNBC BULL! No slanted views on MSNBC are there?
Finally - someone who sees Romney's true colors. The Romney campaign is entirely over the top with rhetoric, false accusations, and lie after lie after lie.
As usual Red... you demonstrate that you do not have the mental capacity to grasp what is being said.
Read slowly and think about it...
Could it be that Bob was saying Garrett's statement of "an inner circle that sees leaks as treasonous" was the rhetoric that was over the top? HMMMM?
Gee SOB - who is showing the lapse in mental capacity? Perhaps the one that doesn't understand irony? Please don't tell me when you got your rote home education, your poh mamma didn't teach you irony. Well, perhaps she did and you think it is that thingymabob you use to press clothes.

Actually Bob, Mormons are very big on secrecy. You might want to check that out. They have some serious, sacred, and very secret rooms and some very serious, sacred, and very secret rituals and ceremonies at their tabernacle in SLC. And yeah, they don't talk about that stuff. Go ahead, ask a Mormon who's been there.
Love the inner circle stuff and treason. Seems that darn gay staffer infiltrated the tight knit group and now he has been branded as treasonous. Keep it up, after all, remember, we have freedom of stupid speech.
Personally, I am confounded by the ritual where they bloodlet a virgin over the golden statue of Moroni. Spooky, indeed.
I just e-mailed a Mormon named "Harry Reid" a list of questions about your concerns. I'll post what I get back from him.
JAS1,
Did you ask him if Romney wins will he take the oath on The Book of Mormon?
Smiff:
I evidenced no concern whatsoever. However, as you are concerned about my nonexistent concerns, I must admit I have a very real concern that you may have produced offspring. Say it ain't so, Jo.
Ok folks, I admit it - my post at 6.8 was an experiment to see what it felt like to be a conservative poster and submit a complete and utter fabricated lie (for another example, refer to post 6.9 and the faux email to Reid). I have to admit, it felt kinda good until the guilt took over. But it has allowed me to gain insight into the mind of many a conservative poster and experience the thrill of posting garbage.
RedDevPS, you wrote:
So, what's it like to be in a perfect vacuum?
@David - Alas, I didn't get the full Monty experience, just an insight. Thus, I can't say what it is like to experience the void where one has no thoughts, no reason, no rationality. Perhaps I'll head over to Fox News and try it again - and see if I walk away with empty talking points and pre-programmed sound bites.
@David Walker, wow I thought I was the only one on here that actually knew anything about the Mormon religion. Secret stuff is right on the money. They actually have a huge vault in Little Cottonwood canyon where they keep the special church artifacts like the infamous White Salamander papers. These are the letters written by Joesph Smith documenting his communication with god through a white salamander in a ditch. Really would like to have some of the stuff he was smoking. This was the start of the mormon church. If you're clueless about these check out the SLC Tribune summer of 1985 or 1986. Three people were actually blown up when a dealer attempted to sell them to a collector. Really cool story except that it's true...
Ah, the day of the bombs - I remember it well. Everyone on lockdown, building evacuations, mail delivery halted, all packages inspected for bombs. That was one freaky week ending with the final explosion of the blue Toyota.
Mountain Man and RedDev:
I don't suppose you'd believe I have the magic spectacles, would you? By the way, Joe wasn't smokin' anything. The white salamander was hanging around with his frog buddy, and Joe licked the frog's tummy, or was it a toad.
I can't be sure, 'cause Joe was still smokin' himself what with him being covered with tar and feathers and all for another one of his crooked schemes.
I'm always a bit nervous when candidates start talking about their religion, me being a non-believer, you know. But that Mormon stuff, well, that's about as far over-the-top as you can get. Old Scientology Ron has nothing on them. Then, of course, I'm aware of old Porter Rockwell the Enforcer, bodyguard for Joe and Brigham. Gotta be careful knowin' that Porter's first name is the same as ol' Senator Hatch. You just don't know who's who, and what's what. Quite a bunch, that LDS crew.
In fact, I'm taking off for whatever planet is the other direction from Kolob after I put this up. Can't be too safe, you know?
@David - if you uncovered the spectacles, then you must have a gold plate or two hanging out in the garage and I would suggest you take caution and expect a visit from the Mormon Mafia. Never could understand why ole Joe needed 'special' spectacles to translate ancient Hebrew text. Why even Sitchin was able to translate the prequel language of ancient Sumeria without specialized glasses.
For an entertaining read, I might suggest James Rollins, The Devil Colony, in which the author spins a good tale of ancient lost tribes of Israel, Native American legends, the Book of Mormon, founding fathers of the US, nanotechnology, and the mysteries of ancient technology such as Damascus Steel. He left out hit man Porter.
Maybe the President should hold an event at one of Bain's failed companies that Willard made made a ton of money on.
Perhaps but, Romney didn't lose $500 million of taxpayer money....
The Obama administration are thugs, just like Trayvon
Your fake concern is obvious. How can people look the other way as private contractors defraud the U.S government (spelt you and me) for more than $5 billion in Iraq and then cry a river over $500 million spent in an attempt to supply an alternative energy supply, which any rational person knows we must have in the near future?
Yeah, as compared to Romney's clean record on government spending.
Yeah, as compared to Romney's clean record on government spending.
Red,
So wasn't Romney supposed to get federal aid for the Olympics?? That's kind of the whole point isn't it? Last I checked the Olympics were a success and brought in much needed monies to the local economy.
Frank,
Your fake attempt at trying to deflect the topic of this discussion is what is really obvious. It's the GAO's responsibility to audit the expenditures of this government. Either while Bush was in office now with Obama in office, there certaintly have been fraudulent spending.
FrankH - don't you know you're not supposed to use logic when talking with a Republican? They don't understand that - just hate, hate, hate.
It all depends on your version of success. If you are a conservative, you most likely believe spending $342M of federal money (that doesn't count another $1.1B federal money in indirect costs) to earn a $100M profit is success (note, none of the profit was used to repay the federal government). After all, that is the Bain way .. get everyone else to foot the bill while you pocket the proceeds. The rest of us call that a failure, or for you single syllable types, a sham!
http://www.factcheck.org/2012/02/slaloming-through-olympic-facts/
....but how about close to a trillion in Iraq (thanks to Dubya and his policies)!...
Now, that's real money. Coupled with the loss of life.
chilled,
Once again someone has to point out to you that Bush is not at fault since Congress (which comprised of both parties) voted for the military campaign. Both Democrats and Republicans are equally to blame for the loss of life (on both sides). It's very distressing that people like you live in a simplistic world where you think just one person is responsible for a war or for the whole collapse of an economy.
Bush bears the brunt of the fault for lieing and spreading fear during the 2002 mid-term elections. Or are you just going to accuse someone of "deflecting"?
Frank,
Care to post a link to those supposed "lies"? And how is that any different than Obama using the "fear" tactic when he said that he wouldn't be able to issue the senior citizens their Social Security checks because there was no money?
Solyndra, Hear me now folks, this will be the one that the Obama administration fears the most.
Possible illegal transactions to promote Hope and Change are on the Horizon. Lots of our tax money going to individuals that bundle campaign money for President Obama. Hold on to your hats is going to be a bumpy ride.
Concern Citizen - if this is the one Obama fears the most then everything is fine. The government has always invested in ideas - some have not worked out. This was one of them. Now, move on!
hey ss, if everything was on the up and up with the solyndra "loan" (money given to obama bundlers) then why is mr transparency obama blocking accesss to the white house visitor logs? This guy in office is a dirty crook. only a moron would defend such a dope.
Quarter of a Trillion dollars spent in Iraq, much of it for fraud and waste. I'm sure you don't remember all those No-Bid contracts to Halliburton (Dick Cheney's company - he was CEO) and Blackwater. Most of the companies in Iraq and Afghanistan were Republican led.
And you talk about one solar company - something we need for our future to get away from companies who take government subsidies while they make millions of dollars of Profit? Republican Brains are wired for ignorance.
funny witch, but congress approved and funded all the iraq money, not to mention our military costs money, whether they are in iraq or not.
haliburton is the company the obama admin uses as well because they are the only company to do the work for only 3 percent above cost
its not one solar company. its this.......... quote
the president took a half-a-billion dollars of taxpayer money and devoted it to an enterprise that was owned in large measure by his campaign contributors," Romney said.
oh yeah witch, and when an oil company profits, where does the money go..... to investors, stockholders, everyday americans in their pension funds. how foolish to believe what you are told by your suppressors
Wonder why Willard's next stop wasn't HP where his BFF Whitman (another Bain alum) is getting ready to let go 27,000 workers. Somehow I don't think he will be talking about that but then again, I would have thought the great job creater would wave his magic wand and save those jobs.
As for Solyndra. I think Snake Oil Izza already did an investigation and couldn't find a thing to hang on the President.
Solyndra is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more failed dealings that are not being mentioned-to the tune of $11.56 billion. There's a huge difference here. Bain Capital was funded with PRIVATE money-Solyndra, and many other failures were funded with TAX PAYERS MONEY. The stock market is a prime example, when it comes to private investing-it's a risk. How can anyone possibly justify using tax payers money to fund programs that are doomed to failure? Of course, these "loans" cannot possibly be paid back now. Obviously, it depends upon who's doing the loaning.......
Touche Ramboet - perhaps Romney can get the equally unqualified and unsuccessful Whitman to play the role of VP. They both have stellar jobs of massive job cuts and/or shipping jobs overseas. That ought to play well to American voters.
13BVET,
but you have absolutely NO details.
You just wanted to throw out that "rumor", get the ball rolling.
conservatives and their baseless lies.
Post a link, something other than your flapping gums!
They didn't even bat an eye when JP Morgan dropped $2B. Yea, yea, their money. If you think they are not going to get it back somehow you are a fool. They will somehow get someone else to pay for their mistake. Rich people always do... What about those huge bonuses they paid out to their executives? By the way how's your Facebook stock doing today?
actually ramboned, the investigation is continuing but mr transparency, loser obama wont allow access to white house visitor logs to show the bundlers visited the white house a dozen times. this guy is a jerk. how could you blindly defend someone so crooked?
OOps he forgot to mention that most, if not all, the former Solyndra employees have found jobs in other solar manufacturing companies. Criticizing Obama on this by a vulture capitalist seems a bit hypocritical but why not make hay if you think you can. Sort of like the child on the playground with a nya, nya, nya, nya or neener, neener, neener.
Adler. That is good news about the employees that lost jobs when Solyndra went belly-up.
Please add more details to the post. I think it important that folks know that those laid off have found jobs.
so adler, your saying that even with a half billion in federal gifts, they still couldnt compete with the private solar company down the road?
see, classic argument the govt has no business trying to pick the winners and losers in business. also, how bout the loan was written so all the private investors take their money back first before bankruptcy?
all this happened. this guy is a sc umbag!
You know why they kept it a secret because someone with some common sense may have stated.....
"Your worried about a 535 million dollar mistake to a startup company that failed but you defend giving away 53 billion dollars to a profitable industry every year."
Republicans - Pennywise and Dollar foolish.
oh boys and girls ... you are missing the best part !!!!!!
pls read this grown man's response to being asked about the "hecklers" at the axelrod event in boston
politico -- MITR ROMNEY CRASHES SOLYNDRA -- reid epstein
thankks ehr! read it and loved it! especially the part where axelrod couldnt even be heard AND mocked! lol! serves that idiot right to get his own medicine! lol!
We won't see it but in the future the wells will all be sucked dry but the sun will still be shining. Then it will be a little late to start searching for alternate energy sources.
Remember, it took 60 years from the time the concept of the light bulb was proven until a proper filiment was discovered that made the concept practicable...... this is about the same time that elapsed between the first Wright Brother's flight and landing on the Moon. Significant discoveries do not happen over night and rarely do they come cheaply or without failures.
Let's not forget, every time Edison failed he simply stated he had found another way to not make a light bulb.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this is just plain weird. Have we reached the stage where the campaigns are digging through each other's trash to find the travel itinerary in order to "stage" a shadow event? Is Romney going to spend the next 6 months parroting Obama? This is just weird.
Why isn't anyone making the point that the approval for the loan to Solyndra began in the President G.W. Bush administration. I don't care whether one is conservative, liberal, or independent, one should always be interested in the facts. Just as he did with the auto bailout, President Obama was completing the work of the previous administration. I would also like to point out that President Obama didn't approve the loan, Congress did. Per the Constitution (Article I,) only Congress can authorize the spending of taxpayer monies, so to blame any president for spending taxpayer money on failed endeavors, shows that those making these types of claims haven't read the Constitution and/or don't understand which branch of our government is responsible for spending our money. I'm a retired high school social studies teacher, and I'm often aghast at the public displays of ignorance by our politicians and citizens when it comes to knowing our Constitution and how the Founders intended our government to work. It's shameful that we call ourselves 'an exceptional nation' when our knowledge about our government is poor or mediocre at best.
Majii,
The investment was analyzed by the previous administration but the books didn't past the muster to gain the approval. The Bush administration didn't see the value in a company where the numbers didn't add up. What helped the numbers to add up in the Obama administration is that the investors where also major contributors to his campaign...funny how that happens!
The approval for the Solyndra Loan did not begin in the Bush administration, it was part of the stimulus pkg that was passed in 2008 after Obama took office. Solyndra cost the Taxpayers $537million in August of 2011. However in September of 2011 Obama's dept. of energy provided a $1.2 Billion loan guarantee to First Solar. At the time they were $829million in debt. I am waiting for this company to go under. Also in September of 2011 Obama's U.S. dept. of energy provided a $737million loan guarantee to Solar Reserve. Three of the top investors in the firm 1.) George Kaiser a Solyndra investor 2.) Nancy Pelosi's husband 3.) Nancy Pelosi's brother. If you as an ordinary average American intend to vote for anyone of these folks in Washington think again they are nothing but crooks and liars. They need to be limited to 2 terms...one in office...one in prison.
After all the government money Mitt & Bain took for every company they took over and left the Taxpayers holding the bag not only for the government investment but also those employees Pensions, that were cut by 98% while they walked away with millions. This was not a for Profit Venture, President Bush began this venture in an effort to back a sensible company to get america into "Solar Power" thus moving our economy forward. Better than sitting on our hands while our energy prices continue to Rocket while Republicans "Drill Baby Drill"
Mitt is at Solyndra not telling the full story and Axelrod is on Massachusetts Capitol Steps. How funny.
What is even alarming how the Koch Brothers get away with fooling the American people. They plan to send approx 10 buses just before recall day to tour Wisconsin. Of course, the Koch Brothers state that this is not political because they would loose their tax exemption status.
They are going to pay Minnesotans to come to Wisc. to get out the vote. How's that for full employment? Have Democrats start recall drives on every GOP elected official. Then have the Kochs pay to keep them all in office. It's fool proof. Or at least for fools.
WM.375815,
Every time one of you liberals bring up the Kochs brothers I would feel you should also have the guts and fortitude to bring up George Soros. Now there is a supporter of the Democrats which has this nations ideals at heart.......Not. But at least you got the name in. You win 10 points on the required liberal talking points.... Next go with it is Bush's fault ,you get an extra 10, capitalists another 10 and so on. Way to think for yourself!
Last I checked, Soros believed in democracy and funds grass root efforts. The Kochs fabricate grass root efforts. Check the numbers - the contributions are no where close to parity and Soros does not back individual candidates.
22 States have petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn Citizen's United and it looks like it will be heard June 14th. If it is overturned it won't be effective until 2013. I guess Robert's understand what Obama was saying about our democracy being bought by the highest bidder although he disagreed with Obama during the State of Union address. Not surprising a campaign poster featuring Robert's read, "I'm for Mitt".
At Solyndra, Romney is on familiar turf. It is exemplary of his "job creation" at Bain Capital. For once he can speak with experience regarding business bankruptcy. It's a shame that he accused Obama from his own experience as well. The president didn't make a fortune out of business failure, Mitt.
500 million lost investment? it was lost because of china dumping on the solar market, killed solyndra.
what about the 17 plus trillion dollars, to bail out your wall street friends, with our taxes. mmmm don't want to talk about that , do we ?
The first rule of any business (small, medium, or large corporation) is -- To Stay in Business Forever! The fact is that Private Equity what Romney touts so much as his experience is to pillage and take out as much money from a company, pocket it, and let it languish possibly coming back or simply ending up in bankruptcy. While there are some companies that Bain invested in are still around the typical model of PE is contrary to business in general. It's a model of GREED, and we've already seen what happened to the housing market, banks, etc., because of that wonderful trait. If the American people want this as their model for a president then I certainly hope they get what they wish for. The reality that PE can only work for so many times before there is nothing else to raid, and the whole things falls flat.
I for one would rather see the country built back up with American jobs, and PE isn't the way to do it.
Think about it...
As Romney has said, win some, lose some. The original investment was made by GWB and carried over to President Obama's watch. True they didn't vet the investment hoping for a win. It it was Bain, Bain would have walked with all the government investment, and pink slipped the workers.
dls - The Bush administration did not make any investment in Solyndra, in fact the Bush Administration denied the loan. The money was put up of the DOE under Obama and the money came from the Obama Stimulus bill. I am so tired of the left wing nuts coming up with the same thing, "IT'S BUSHES FAULT". Get a life and get your head out of your rear end.
sfcret... of course they denied giving the loan. You and the repubnuts rewrite history on a daily basis.
As gov. of MA.Romney lost billions will 3 failed energy companies! Guess he doesn't want to tell us that.
Thats right els-387641 GWB investment carried over to Obama, just like all the other BS of bushes. He made dam sure his last 6 months in office that he signed all the right papers to screw up the next democratic president,of course after he messed up everything, he knew it would be a dem.
Wow, Mitt lost billions. That's alot, why hasn't president Obama come out with that. I'd like to see the facts behind this one.
The big differance is Mitt lost inverstment capital. Obama lost 5 trillion of Taxpayers money. There is a big differance between shareholders looseing money and Taxpayers loosing money.
To understand Mitt Romney read the recently published novel, The Assassination of Spiro Agnew:
It reveals the Mormons' anti-federal government temperament; and how the Mormons' superiority complex fuels racism, sexism, and jingoism on the ground. It shows the similarities between Islam and Mormonism, and reveals the secrets of Mormon Mind Control.
It has good reviews:
With a clarity of language and vision unsurpassed in contemporary American prose, Steven Janiszewski's Assassination of Spiro Agnew takes us into a U.S. mazed with madness and Mormonism and all things Utah, a U.S. that was then and still is. Do we need a novel, even as brilliant as this one, about a young man on a divine mission to assassinate the Vice President because he is too liberal? Yes, now more than ever. Readers, welcome to a masterpiece.
Tom Whalenwww.tomwhalen.com
StevenJ,
Just read Dreams of my Father,, a master piece about our President, and yet we still somehow voted him in.....what a travesty.
stevej, you hate jews too, and muslims, how bout race? typical lib. racist and religion hater
trying to cast a web of racism around republicans is common practice of democrats. remember, as democrats see it: democrats are kind, sensitive individuals looking out for the best interest of the downtrodden", and republicans are there for the interest of rich white men.
what democrats forget in the heat of the argument is that THE RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL TRUMP ALL. but, all they know is MOB RULE.
Just look, I agree, but the fact are so different. Republican Donate much more to charites them Democrats do, it was the So called Rich Republicans and Chirches that started most of the Hospitals, Museums, and Colleges. Democrats just like to take other peoples money and use it, to show how much they care. Another thing they forget is it was the Democrats that opressed the blacks in the south, and to this day. But they still try to sell this crap.
