First Thoughts: All tied up

All tied up: New NBC-Marist polls show Obama and Romney deadlocked in CO, IA, and NV… Our four observations on these new surveys… Today’s Obama-Romney message war: Massachusetts vs, Solyndra… Awkward day at the White House with the unveiling of Bush 43’s official portrait… The White House’s Syria challenge… Team Obama’s new Spanish-language ads… In WI recall, Walker leads Barrett by seven points, per new poll… John Paul Stevens criticizes Citizens United decision -- again… And Elizabeth Warren comments on that Native American story.

This photo combo shows President Barack Obama in Chapel Hill, N.C. on April 24, 2012, and Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on April 18, 2012 in Charlotte, N.C.

*** All tied up: A week ago, we released NBC-Marist polls showing President Obama narrowly leading Mitt Romney in the key battleground states of Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. Today, we’re unveiling a new round of NBC-Marist surveys in three other battleground states -- ones that aren’t polled as often -- showing an even closer race. In Iowa, the two men are tied at 44% among registered voters, including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate; 10% are undecided. In Colorado, Obama gets support from 46% of registered voters, while Romney gets 45%. And in Nevada, the president is at 48% and Romney is at 46%. The margin of error in each of these three surveys is plus-minus 3%, so they are all statistical ties in these battleground states.

The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd breaks down the NBC-Marist poll, which shows President Barack Obama's slight lead in Ohio, Florida and Virginia.

*** Four observations: Here are four observations on this new round of polling: One, the numbers pretty much match what the campaigns are seeing -- everything is tightening. Two, Obama has spent more time in Ohio and Virginia than Colorado, Iowa, and Nevada, and it shows, according to our polls. Three, the 10% undecided in Iowa is striking; these folks perhaps know the candidates better than residents of any other state. Also, Obama being below 45% in the Hawkeye State has to concern his campaign. And fourth, all six of these states (FL, OH, VA, CO, IA, NV) were carried by both Bush in ’04 and Obama in ’08. Who wants to bet that, ultimately, these six break the same way in November, or at least four of them?

*** Massachusetts vs. Solyndra: Today, the Obama campaign is targeting Romney’s record in Massachusetts. It has released a web video, which includes testimonials from local politicians, that makes this point, per NBC’s Carrie Dann: During his 2002 gubernatorial campaign, Romney made similar promises -- like using his business experience to create jobs -- but didn’t exactly deliver. At 11:30 am ET in Boston, Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod and Massachusetts politicos hold a press conference on Romney’s gubernatorial record. (The Romney camp has organized an earlier presser in Boston, at 10:00 am.) Meanwhile, Romney remains out in California, and the scuttlebutt among the traveling press corps is that he may have an event outside of the bankrupt Solyndra headquarters. Here’s what Romney said about Solyndra at his fundraiser last night: "Who wants to put money in a solar company when a government puts a half a billion into one of its choice?" Romney asked. “They don't understand how the free economy works." The RNC has a HUGE oppo briefing book they’ve released today focused on Solyndra, adding more fuel to the speculation fire re: Romney’s whereabouts today.

*** An awkward day at the White House: Today, Obama meets with his predecessor George W. Bush -- the man whom the president implicitly criticizes when he talks about the wars and economic conditions he inherited. At 12:10 pm ET, the Obamas and the Bushes (as well as Bush 41 and his wife) have lunch at the White House. And then, at 1:25 pm, they unveil the official White House portraits for George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush. A.W.K.W.A.R.D. Then again, Bush 43 ran his entire 2000 campaign against his predecessor, and they ended up bonding. While we don’t expect the same level of camaraderie, it’s actually one of those rare opportunities for Obama to grab the higher ground in these tough polarizing times.

*** The Syria challenge: The New York Times today front-pages an analysis looking at the Obama White House’s challenges when it comes to Syria. “Just as strife in the former Yugoslav republic confounded first President George Bush and then his successor, Bill Clinton, the bloody crackdown in Syria — underscored by last week’s massacre of children and other villagers — has put Mr. Obama in a deeply uncomfortable position. With American troops only recently withdrawn from Iraq and still in Afghanistan, the president is loath to engage in new military actions, especially one with few advocates, even among human rights groups. And yet with each passing incident, the scale of the crisis grows.” More: “All the military contingencies that the Pentagon has developed involve a serious commitment of resources, with no low-cost options as in Libya. Unlike in Libya, there is no defined rebel army holding territory that would be helped by airstrikes. Syria has a better trained, better equipped military, including Russian antiaircraft defenses. And there is no United Nations or Arab League support for international force.” There may be no more important meeting in the next month than the one between Obama and Putin that is set to take place while the two attend next month’s G-20 in Mexico. If the U.S. has any hopes of somehow getting Assad to agree to leave power (a la Yemen), it’s going to need Russia’s help.

*** Team Obama’s new Spanish-language (and positive) TV ads: Turning back to the presidential campaign, the Obama camp is up with three new Spanish-language TV ads – once again highlighting testimonials (in Spanish) from Obama campaign workers. Here are the targeted ads in Nevada, Colorado, and Florida. And here’s an important point for everyone who’s talking about how negative the Obama-Romney race is right now: The ads that are running from both campaigns in the key battleground states are ALL mostly positive ads. Chew on that narrative writers!

*** Walker leads Barrett by seven points, per public poll: We’re just five days out until Tuesday’s recall in Wisconsin, and a new Marquette Law School poll shows incumbent Gov. Scott Walker (R) leading challenger Tom Barrett (D) by seven points among likely voters, 52%-45%. (Interestingly, the same poll has Obama leading Romney in this battleground state, by a similar margin, 51%-43%.) Democrats have released their own polling showing a much closer race between Walker and Barrett. Who’s right? We’re just days away from an answer. And by the way, how much is the White House investing in Barrett? Well, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney had to tweet yesterday that the president is supporting Barrett -- after being unable to answer an earlier question about it.

*** John Paul Stevens criticizes Citizens United ruling, argues that SCOTUS might have to revisit the case: Don’t miss this story from NBC’s Pete Williams: “Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens took a poke at the controversial Citizens United decision Wednesday night and said his former colleagues have probably already had second thoughts about it… Stevens was among the justices who dissented in the court's 5-4 ruling. In remarks prepared for delivery at the University of Arkansas, Stevens predicted that the court will soon be forced to issue rulings that will undermine a key part of the Citizens United ruling -- that the First Amendment ‘prohibits the suppression of political speech based on the speaker's identity,’ including the fact that the speaker is a corporation.” More: “The court's decision left undecided whether the same free speech right applies to foreign corporations. In due course, Stevens said, the court will be called upon to decide that question, forcing it to craft an exception ‘that will create a crack in the foundation of the Citizens United majority opinion.’”

*** Warren comments on Native American story: And there’s news from Massachusetts on that competitive Scott Brown vs. Elizabeth Warren race. The Boston Globe: “Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren acknowledged for the first time late Wednesday night that she told Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania that she was Native American, but she continued to insist that race played no role in her recruitment.” So let’s get this straight: After ducking this story for more than a month and letting it fester, Warren is ONLY NOW releasing this statement?

Countdown to WI recall: 5 days
Countdown to GOP convention: 89 days
Countdown to Dem convention: 96 days
Countdown to Election Day: 160 days

Someone from the GNOP forgot to give the “Dead Beat Daddy” Joe Walsh the memo on how to court the Hispanic vote!

Talk about the party of inclusive? Their once “big tent” now couldn’t accommodate two Boy Scouts in a pup-tent!

Keep in mind, this is not the first time old’ Joe has been caught giving a racist rant!

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) made another controversial remark last week, telling constituents that Democrats want Hispanics to be dependent on government -- and claiming that
African Americans already are.

"The Democratic Party promises groups of people everything," Walsh, a conservative freshman from
suburban Chicago, said during a Schaumburg, Ill., speech caught on video provided
by CREDO SuperPAC, an anti-tea party group. "They want the Hispanic vote, they want Hispanics to be dependent on government, just like they got African Americans dependent on government. That's their game."

Walsh goes on to say that civil rights activist Jesse Jackson "would be out of work if [African Americans] weren't dependent on government."

Walsh has a flair for the dramatic in his speeches, and last week's was no different. He began to speak loudly, telling his constituents he gets "wound up" for them. "I am scared. I really am scared, Patrick, that we're past the point -- we have so many people now dependent on government, so many people want handouts," he said.

Walsh also has a history of controversial remarks about race -- and plenty of other issues. He said in April that Obama was elected because he's black, telling constituents at another town hall that electing the first African American president "made us feel good about [our]self."

When Joe isn’t busy picking on minorities, his second favorite target are veterans…

These tea baggers are a real piece of work…. No?

The Essential Part of How FOX News Viewers Get So D-u-u-m-b

FOX NEWs, the network for dummies, is airing a 4-minute anti-Obama video that looks like a political attack ad.

Worst, the witless crew on the couch that serves as hosts for this show had the audacity to present it as journalism and congratulate the producer who put it together." A post on the Fox Nation site calling the piece a "must-see Fox video" was taken down, and the segment was later removed from FoxNews.com.

ANYTHING GOES, the rationale.
Mitt Romney says he doesn't expect to agree with supporters like Trump-the-Birther, but does need "to get 50.1% or more" of the votes. We know birtherism is racial code but money talks, right?

So he is OK with divisive fantasies & lies, and is prepared to let them go unchallenged in return for lots of money. Mitt Romney seriously lacks integrity, a mustmust-have for the President of a global superpower.

Mr. Romney continues to demonstrate what he really cares about = himself and corporate cohorts.

Romney avoids taking a solid position on anything, and will do whatever is expedient.
We see with evermore clarity how Mitt Romney would govern as President.

A question for the FR lefty liberals to ponder: At this stage of the game people either believe Barry was born in the USA or they don’t, and nothing is going to change their minds either way. Do you think that Republican’s enjoy the birther issue because they are entertained by watching lefty liberals acting like not very bright dogs going around in circles chasing their own tails, while barking at it and trying to bite it? I know I enjoy it and find it very entertaining when it’s a major topic for days and days on the MSDNC prime time Stooges lineup.

BTW, yesterday, Dr. Ron Indiana posted that he had made a “handsome profit” on his GM stock purchase (First Thoughts #1.1 and 1.24). He sounded pretty proud of himself. As a look at the CNBC chart below shows, the ONLY way that “handsome profit” could have occurred is if Dr. Ron bought the stock and then quickly sold it for a short term cap gain because GM’s price has pretty much trended steadily down since shortly after the November 2010 IPO. That’s “speculation”, not “investing”. I wonder if Dr. Ron understands that what he so proudly did is no different than what those evil Wall St. banks do every day to earn their “handsome profits”??

LMAO!!!!

fyi,

Governor Scott Walker (R-WI) was caught on tape saying he planned to 'go red' in Wisconsin, using the "divide and rule" strategy = pitting public unions, private unions, and ordinary people against each other.

More ethical failure from the monied Trumpery Brigade. Expect more of the same from Governor Romney.

Romney avoids taking a solid position on anything, and will do whatever is expedient.

And Obama is different how?

Obama said that, as President, he would introduce comprehensive immigration reform legislation in his first year. He did not. He has now made the same promise for the first year of his second term.

Obama said that "you should not be forced to buy healthcare insurance", but signed the individual mandate into law.

Obama said that, as President, his health care reform would allow Americans to import cheaper prescription drugs. The health care reform he signed into law does not allow this.

Obama promised to filibuster any bill that gave amnesty to telecommunication companies that were assisting authorities with wiretapping activities. Obama voted for a bill that did just that in July of 2008.

Obama promised to seek public financing for his presidential campaign in 2008, but ended up rejecting public financing.

Expediency? Need I list more because I'm only in the 2008 - 2009 years.

Bev, mornin,

I doubt Faux Entertainment said anything about the Scott Walker (R-WI) video.

Walker told one of his top donors, that his "first step" as Governor was to "deal with collective bargaining for all public employee unions" in order to "divide and conquer".

But Walker's Divide and Conquer comment on video contradicts his sworn testimony of August 2011. Reps Cummings, Connelly, and Murphy wrote to Issa, chairman of House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform asking for an explanation from Walker --

After the Nation published an article "Did Scott Walker Lie Under Oath in Congress?"

Walker's words on the videotape undermines every rationale Walker gave in his testimony to that Committee, about his unforseen and rabid attack on public sector workers.

Unemployment SUCKS!

Optimism SUCKS!

Our Debt SUCKS!

Let's blame someone shall we... but who could it be? The people in charge or a mystical group of power brokers pulling the strings.

You know the power brokers can spend all the want, they can bombard me with advertisements all the want, they can try to influence me in every way they can imagine, but know this, they cannot go into the booth with me and they cannot overcome my free will.

Now Obama, Harry and John can do something. They can actually impact the country because those elections have already happened.

So far Boehner has offered up several budgets as an example.

Harry makes sure they never come up for a vote.

Obama blames Boehner for not doing anything.

Message coming in Liberals, its from the dark overlords, put on your tinfoil hats!

BREAKING: MAJOR REVELATIONS IN JOHN DOE PROBE - SCOTT WALKER INADVERTENTLY ADMITS HE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION

Wednesday, 30 May 2012 15:34

Walker, in a rare moment of candor, stated to reporters that he would not use the criminal defense fund to pay for the legal defenses of his aides, who have been charged with crimes ranging from child enticement, to theft from veterans and the families of fallen soldiers, to misuse of taxpayer resources to illegally campaign for Scott Walker, and would instead use the funds for himself or his campaign.

Wisconsin law is very clear: an elected official can only establish a legal defense fund if they, or their agent, are under investigation for, charged with, or convicted of violations of Wisconsin's campaign finance and election laws.

This article does not make tomorrow’s USDOL jobs report look very promising. Sure, the unemployment rate might tick down 0.1% because there are even MORE unemployed workers that have given up looking for a job and are no longer considered “unemployed”. And that will make lefty liberals CHEER for the wonderful job Barry is doing on the economy.

But, the sad fact is that these discouraged workers providing the lefty liberals with “good news” for Barry are real people with real families and as long as the slow-bama “recovery” is limping along at less than 2% GDP growth, they are screwed.

From CNBC.com:

Job Creation Light, Claims Up, Economy Grows Just 1.9%

Reuters

| 31 May 2012 | 09:00 AM ET

Private payroll growth accelerated only slightly last month and claims for jobless benefits rose last week, suggesting the U.S. labor market recovery was stalling after a strong performance early in the year.

Other data on Thursday showed economic growth in the first quarter was a bit softer than initially estimated, with businesses restocking shelves more slowly than previously thought and government spending declining more sharply.

"It shows we're in a lackluster period in the economy right now," said Wayne Kaufman, chief market analyst at John Thomas Financial in New York.

Private employers created 133,000 jobs in May, payrolls processor ADP said. That was below economists' expectations for 148,000 jobs.

The report comes ahead of Friday's closely watched employment report for May, which is expected to show that nonfarm payrolls increased 150,000, up from a paltry 115,000 in April. Job creation accelerated between December and February as the economy got a boost from an unusually warm winter.

"This number could have some weather payback in it, but I think basically it confirms and reinforces the notion that there was a sharp deceleration of employment in the springtime months," Joel Prakken, chairman of Macroeconomic Advisors, told CNBC's "Squawk Box."

"It's not particularly surprising given the recent weakness in the macroeconomic data, but it's certainly disappointing and well short of what we need to see the national unemployment rate fall on a consistent basis

Spot on Damage123,

You'd have thought these Liberals would still be fighting for their Union masters but they have come to realize that Walker will not only survive but he is vindicated. He will grow even more powerful as a result. And the Unions have become weaker.

Wisconsin is a preview of this fall and will serve as a referendum on Obama's pathetic job growth, pathetic economic growth and future failure. When SCOTUS strikes down Obamacare it is all over.

Know this, if after 3 1/2 years you are still undecided about Obama's ability to turn this economy around and these polls show ~10% are undecided, then what are they waiting for? They are waiting for Romney to make his case and when he does, anyone could (its the economy!), he will win the majority of the undecided and will win this fall.

Liberals can go back to being the chihuahuas of the political world, yipping at the heels of those trying to move this great nation toward prosperity, they can be content in knowing they will no longer be blamed for their failures.

Kind of makes me want to wish away a perfectly good summer...

Laugh about it all you want, and I'm not a big supporter of Walsh, but he speaks the truth in the article Fiesty quoted. It's been obvious for years, so he's not stating anything new here.

If the republicans truely want the hispanic vote, then they'll :

1. Allow current young illegals doing good in school (as in the ones parents brought over at a young age) to work towards citizenship.

2. Work on getting a GOOD easy to use and workable seasonal work program for picking produce/etc which only allows those working to come up for the season, then go home in the off season.

3. Update the 14th amendment to get rid of the temptation of anchor babies.

4. Fix the whole welfare system all around to stop the abuse, and make it a hand up, hence encouraging people to look for work instead of letting them live as well off welfare as those middle class working for a living.

@Fiesty about the WW2 veteran.

There isn't enough information there to form the opinion you did. If they wanted me to prove my citizenship, I would have no problem showing my birth certificate or any other ID/proof they requested. In this day and age where id theft is so prevelant, it's easy for someone to mess up your records without you knowing. Or aren't you shocked about the veteran that had done multiple tours in the middle east coming back to completely trashed credit, unable to buy a house for his family, etc, etc due to illegals using his SSN? The veteran can show the proof, and I'd expect an immediate apology from the county, and all is good.

I also find it ironic that you support the major military cuts which will put 1000s of veterans just like him out of work, yet you find the one little tidbit to portray your 'shock and disgust' while you defend the very veterans that you support putting out of work.

What's un-American is people like you not wanting to make sure that only living citizens vote in our elections. What's un-American is people like you supporting the government in the creation of a dependant society without the pride of working for a living and working to support our country.

Millions of other people like me work for a living, not only do we support our families, but we also pay to support our military defending our rights and our country, we pay to support those either unable to work or those looking for work. We also pay for the millions taking advantage of us.

Too many people like you have forgotten (or never knew) what being an American is all about.

Last night I was reading a book on past presidential campaigns called The Candidate. It's amazing to watch history repeat itself in American politics over and over again.

For one thing, I was surprised to learn there was a 1940's version of the Tea Party; politicians who championed small government, to the point where they claimed FDR was a greater threat to America than Hitler. Tea Party-type conservatives objected to FDR's call to prepare for war. Robert A. Taft wrote "long before we have dealt with the armed autocracy in Europe, our liberty will be swamped by excessive Executive authority, and we will see here a completely totalitarian government." Then Pearl Harbor was attacked, and the threat to "liberty," poised by the creation of Social Security, kind of paled in comparison to the challenge of fighting the Second World War.

“When Romney took office as Governor of Massachusetts, the S&P was threatening to downgrade the state’s debt. Romney met with them in their offices in New York, invited them up to Boston and met with them in his office, and laid out a debt reduction plan that instilled so much confidence in the S&P folks that they not only relented on the downgrade, they upgraded Massachusetts debt.”

JOB CREATION RECORD:

“Between January 2003 and December 2006, Massachusetts was one of seventeen states to accelerate its job growth every year (creating more jobs each year than were created the year before), and one of only two states — Illinois being the other — to accelerate its job growth by at least 20,000 jobs each year. Massachusetts was one of the top ten most-improved states (seventh overall) in terms of job creation, going from 49th in the nation in the first year of the Romney Administration to 36th in the nation in the last year.”

What will y'all say if he loses, who will you blame. Because by your comments, there is no way he can lose without being cheated or voter suppression.

STATE ECONOMICALLY RANKED #1:
With Increased Lead During Romney's term in office

“The U.S. is in the midst of its third major economic transformation of the last 120 years, equivalent in scope and depth to the emergence of the factory economy in the 1890s and the mass-production, corporate economy in the 1940s and 1950s. This means states must act decisively to encourage entrepreneurship or be left behind in this New Economy...

“The study, based on similar ITIF studies in 1999 and 2002, uses 26 indicators—such as educational attainment of the workforce and number of new startups and business failures—to provide detailed rankings on how states are adapting to the challenges of a global, entrepreneurial, and knowledge-based economy...

“The state farthest along the path to the New Economy is Massachusetts. Topping the list in 1999 and 2002, Massachusetts' lead over other states in 2007 has increased—with a concentration of software, hardware, and biotech firms supported by universities such as MIT, Harvard, and others. The state had the fourth-highest increase in per capita income, according to the study.”

So let me get this straight, these and other accomplished Republican women are waging a purported war on themselves by virtue of their association with the party. The 'war on women' pushed by the left is made up out of whole cloth. That narrative doesn't just fail the smell test, it's easily debunked by even the most cursory examination of the lengthy list of successful Republican women in both public and private sector careers.

Good morning all.

Once again I have come to the party late, but I have read through many of the posts.

Feisty. You are hitting on one of the most outrageous problems we are seeing right now voter registration. You said: With the occurance of voter fraud being 0.003% WHY did 26 states push voter ID laws over JOBS? That seems like the $64,000 question. What I am wondering is whether the feds have the right to trump the state decisions to hamper voter rights. It seems to me that they should.

What else will the GOP do? It is apparent that they want to restrict voters who are not registered republicans. On the Maddow show last night, many of the problems with what is happening in FL were highlighted. This is disgraceful to say the least. More than that, it should be investigated as criminal in my opinion. Trying to take away a persons fundamental right to vote to help insure the outcome of an election goes beyond the imaginable.

Perhaps it would be a better idea in every state that no one actually register with party preference. If that were the case in FL, maybe they wouldn't be able to get away with what they are doing now.

MRWSR, anyone can win or loose in an election, but it is courious why GOP states only have choosen to limit voting rights and within 6month of an election start purging voters. Can you defend those actions say like Florida that has sent out list of names to be purged and the majority are Hispanic, Democrat or independents, who are citizens, have been citizens for their entire life and yet the Republican Governor knowing the list are inaccurate continues his policy, how do you as an American citizen support these actions as righteous. Why is the GOP now trying to restrict voters from their right to vote. Who is afraid of loosing the party limiting voting rights or the party trying to get all legal voters out to vote. If we as America can not manage open elections then how do we claim the moral right to push our form of government on any other country.

Fiesty,

I said majority not all. By no means have Republicans no had their hand in it.

The Democrat Voter Fraud Playbook is as follows:

  1. ACORN registers the names, legitimate or not.
  2. Black Panther, SEIU and other “community organizer” groups intimidate people, especially minorities, from voting Republican.
  3. Voter lists remain unscrubbed of felons, dead people, and illegal immigrants.
  4. On Election Day, precinct workers submit any unused ballots for Democrat candidates.
  5. Democrat officials and politicians pretend like nothing happened.

It’s as easy as that to steal an election.

Tis,

The whole voter suppression act by y'all is a myth and you know it. Nothing wrong with voter I.D. laws. This is the left's only hope if obama lose's. Won't even try to debate on the issue, it would be kicking a dead horse.

Liberals can go back to being the chihuahuas of the political world, yipping at the heels of those trying to move this great nation toward prosperity,

Irrational American is so confused, the poor dolt last had a rational thought in 1979 (the same year Ab Fab Patsy last ate). The GOP/TPs version of prosperity is decreased salaries, decreased benefits, decreased purchasing power by the middle class. They hate the idea of pensions, can't stand the thought of social security, and absolutely abhor the idea of health care. The only version of prosperity they love is to have the entire working nation handing money over to the wealthy 1%.

Liberals may be yippy chihuahuas, but the GOP/TP are proof Pavlov was spot on. They salivate at the idea of getting a snausage for a days work when what decent working people deserve are a good salary, benefits, health care, retirement, and unions that are willing to stand up and defend those means.

Why, even Bruce Springsteen can't stand the ideology of the irrational American and its support of the 1%

Unac Boston Another thing for example,

Recall Governor Scott Walker's opponent Barrett has accused Walker of "cooking the books" and trying to spin the numbers to his advantage.

Scott Walker's recall has resorted to trying to lure Democrats into a trap. Walker has filled the airwaves with deceptive rhetoric about creating jobs, when in truth the state of Wisconsin has lost over over 21,000 jobs from April 2011 to April 2012.

Republican Gov. Scott Walker's administration said Wednesday that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has finalized higher job numbers for Wisconsin for 2011, which would blunt one of his opponents' biggest arguments against him just six days before he stands for recall.

Walker's Department of Workforce Development provided an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday from the bureau's staff that shows it gave final approval to the numbers. The email did not say what number the bureau approved,

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local/wisconsin&id=8683230

=======================================================
It should be interesting to see those job numbers from the Labor Board. Then we will know who is lying. Maybe this will stop Walker from going on FOX NOISE and the nation spewing lies.

MRWSR,

[ACORN registers the names, legitimate or not.] Acorn or any voter registration group gathers names for registration and submit that list to the board of elections for certification – the fakes are weeded out – thus it is voter registration fraud not voter fraud – they never get to vote.

[Voter lists remain unscrubbed of felons, dead people, and illegal immigrants] Not true in most states where the board of election has a process in place that eliminates these people on a regular basis as they occur.

[On Election Day, precinct workers submit any unused ballots for Democrat candidates.] That would imply that the board of elections only allows Dems as volunteers and only places Dems as precinct supervisors. Conspiracy theory?

[Black Panther …] Actually it was the "New" Black Panther's. There were all of three of them outside a precinct that was 97% registered Democrats, were beyond the legal boundaries and were legally armed per the State law.

Fiesty,

JFK's Daddy bought him West Virginia in 1960 Democrat Presidential Primary.

The demographics in WVa are interesting. You have a bunch of Irish Protestant immigrants (60% of the population) in West Virginia supposedly voting for a Catholic over Hubert H. Humphrey, a Protestant. You do realize that one thing all Irish Protestants agree on and that is that there is no such thing as a good Irish Catholic and vice versa. See Northern Ireland for more information.

http://m.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2012/01/30/chris-matthews-squirms-scarborough-discusses-jfk-buying-west-virginia

Apparently with John Fitzgerald Kennedy the ACORN had not fallen far from the tree as old Joe Kennedy was used to getting whatever he wanted if he spread the cash around. My grandfather lived in West Virginia then and he would tell stories of pints of booze from the Kennedy's handed to the coal miners as they came out of the mines. My grandfather was the foreman of that mine.

-----------

Now shall we talk voter registrations from ACORN?

Shall we talk about Eric Holder, a black man, having his ballot freely offered to a white man, James O'Keefe on video? Hilarious and sad video for you to look at below.

Where have they been brought up on charges?

I also, see where you conveniently didn't bother to research the Republican Attorney General in IN!

Acorn is still in business?

Gosh I didn't know!

Meanwhile, James O'Keefe the hero zero of the right can't step foot into the state of New Hampshire without facing a grand jury for voter fraud!

Keep up your smart ass comments

A Nevada judge on Wednesday gave ACORN, the defunct grass-roots community organization, the maximum fine for its illegal voter-registration scheme in that state.

District Court Judge Donald Mosley was blunt and unsparing in his criticism of the discredited activist group. Citing the long history of voter registration fraud allegations that engulfed ACORN across the country, he slapped the group with a $5,000 fine for violating Nevada election law during the 2008 presidential election.

Mosley, reading the pre-sentence report, listed a series of voter registration fraud allegations against ACORN workers. He said that if the claims have been true, then "It is making a mockery of our election process. If I had an individual in this courtroom...who was responsible for this kind of thing, I would put that person in prison for 10 years, hard time, and not think twice about it," he said. "To me this is reprehensible. This is the kind of thing you see in some banana republic, Uruguay or someplace, not in the United States."

In Nevada, ACORN pleaded guilty to one felony count of unlawful compensation for registration of voters, stemming from an illegal voter registration scheme in its Las Vegas office during in the 2008 race.

The group paid a bonus to workers to sign up 21 or more voters per shift, calling the program "21," or "Blackjack."

It is illegal in Nevada to pay bonuses to register voters.

The case was the first and so far only prosecution of ACORN itself. The previous ACORN cases that made headlines nationwide, included numerous convictions of ACORN employees for voter registration fraud.

Allegations ranged from trying to register dead people and making up fictitious voters, to plucking names out of the phone book.

"This is not a voter registration fraud case, it is an improper compensation case," countered Lisa Rasmussen, the ACORN attorney, who argued that the fine should only be $1,000.

She told the court that "ACORN registered some tens of thousands of people to vote in the 2008 election, who would not have otherwise registered or voted."

She claimed that the Las Vegas bonus program was "not something that was implemented with the permission of ACORN's corporate management."

ACORN's Nevada field director, Christopher Edwards, had previously pleaded guilty, cooperated with prosecutors, and testified against the organization in court.

In November, ACORN'S regional director, Amy Busefink, who also worked for the nationwide group Project Vote, pleaded no contest to charges and was also sentenced to probation.

The Nevada Secretary of State, Democrat Ross Miller, told Fox News that the case shows voter registration fraud will be prosecuted.

"The message out there is that we are not just going to look the other way, when we see these type of violations. We are going to aggressively pursue them, and I think that will deter people from engaging in that type of activity."

And then defend why you have to have an ID to drink but not vote? If Blacks are going to be disenfranchised because they are less likely to have an ID then wouldn't they be equally outraged to not be able to drink? Same for Hispanics, Asians, etc.

He created a $60 billion bank to fund infrastructure improvements such as roads and bridges. http://bit.ly/e1SSaQ

Not remembering this legislation I followed the link. It goes to the PolitiFact site where

When it comes to the promise, though, although the administration has repeatedly attempted to create a national infrastructure bank, it appears unlikely to happen by the end of Obama"s first term. For now, we rate this a Promise Broken.

Too Funny. So a failed promise is an accomplishment? Don't worry you can always use that "created or saved" metric.

So did he get his arms blown off and he can't pull an ID out of his pocket? One thing he fought for was the right for legal citizens to vote, not for the right of any Tom, Dick or Harry that resides in this country to vote. They want to see ID, you don't seem to have an issue with someone asking for ID at a bar do you? Although I'm sure you're never asked because you're old and crusty. But for something as unimportant as voting you consider that a hassle. If you think that way you're either a a lazy idiot, illegal, or an absolute moron. I'm sure we all know the answer.

In states where ACORN and SEIU submitted applications they didn't have state secretaries of state or election bureaus to check them out? I really find it hard to believe that they could get away with anything like voter fraud. Perhaps a few may have gotten through due to errors but they are so few that elecion results would not likely be affected.

If anyone is intimidating votors are there not people one can call to have those intimidators removed? Or are we just whining because things don't naturally go our way so we have to complain, and try to disenfranchise those who, like the 91 year old WWII veteran in Florida, who defended this country and may very well have voted in many elections in the past to get votes. That is Nazi like tactics.

If voter rolls are not scrubbed of felons and the deceased whose falt is that? I would say it is the fault of the election commission. Did any of those dead people or felons actually vote? If so did they vote in numbers that would have decided an election one way or another or are we just creating another diversion?

Cite an example of where unused ballots were filled out for one candidate or another. Where I live we have a secret ballot. In the ballot box one ballot looks pretty much like the others. We don't sign them or indicate it was a ballot of anyone in particular so how is one to know what ballot was cast by whom?

RWNJ can't win by normal means so they resort to picking on people who are vulnerable and likely to vote Democratic rather than Republican. Very Naziesque indeed.

There is no such thing as voter suppression anymore. It is something dreamed up by the democrats. As for requiring an ID to vote, we have known for months that some states have passed that requirement, so why don't those that don't have an ID get off the rear ends and go get one. There is still a little over 5 months until the election so plenty of time to get a ID. BTW, how are these people, without IDs buying booze, cigarettes, cashing checks, using credit cards, etc.?

Those that keep saying there is no wide spread voter fraud so this is only for voter suppression. My answer would be we take vaccines to keep from catching certain illnesses (prevention) so consider requiring an ID to vote can be preventive, to make sure it does not happen. Why wait until someone proves that voter fraud has taken place before we are allowed to pass requirements (that's like the old saying, "closing the barn door after the horses have gotten out" or something like that.)

When, even in a high turnout election, a large number of registered voters don’t vote which doesn’t even begin to count the number of eligible voters that don’t even register why would a large number of people take hours out of their day to vote illegally knowing full well that, if caught, they could go to prison?

It took you that many times to understand it? To find an angle you could take a tangent to? Really.

So in Gore v. Bush, Florida, 2000, how many votes separated the two? Only 537. Less than 0.0092% of the vote. And you don't think it is a significant problem. Then why fight it? Why fight it if it is not a significant problem? Why have it or why fight it?

Democrats sure don't want voter ID laws for a reason and it has nothing to do with because it is a waste of time. It has everything to do with who stands to benefit from illegal voting.

Hey RedDevP.O.S. - perfect name for you.

That tactic never gets old with you pieces of chihuahua sh!t does it?

I am a Liberal Democrat. I live in a state that expects us to pre register before voting, which I do.I have no problem with that, but I do see that it has been a problem in the past to set up standards to eligibility to vote. The worst one,in my opinion was the assets rule but there have been others that were set up as inclusive rules and many people are doubtful of the motives behind these i.d. rules as being merely the start to denying the democratic vote . With voter apathy and the pressures from huge amounts of money plus the fact that many persons can be bought,it is not too surprising that we see doubts voiced, so to state that the concerns are ridiculous is unreasonable .

This poll is of registered voters of which historically 1/3 don't show up. And from the last 40 years or so most of the undecided vote goes to the challenger with Bush jr. being the only exception. Being tied with ten percent undecided is usually not good for the incumbent.

LIKELY voters are always a much better gauge of outcome as opposed to REGISTERED.

BigATC "LIKELY voters are always a much better gauge of outcome as opposed to REGISTERED."

Exactly right, but almost all pollsters use 'Registered Voters' in their polls until about 2 weeks before the election, and then they switch to 'Likely Voters' to avoid a big embarrassment over getting it wrong. A perfect example is the 2004 election, where 'Registered Voters' favored Kerry by a 2% margin, but 'Likely Voters' favored Bush by 2% - Bush won by 2.5% - 'swing' of 4.5%.

Historically, the Republicans pick up anywhere from 2% to 6% when only 'Likely Voters' are counted (it varies depending on the 'enthusiasm' factor - if Democrats are enthusiastic, it can go down, but if not, it goes up. Using the 4% midpoint as of now, Romney likely has a 4% advantage right now.

Therein lies the problem for Obama - his best chance for reelection is to go negative, but in the process he discourages voting, which hurts the Democrats more than the Republicans.

Also, history shows that 'Undecideds' typically go for the challenger by about a 80%/20% split, so as of this point in time, my estimate is that Obama will go down to a big-time loss. My best guess at this time - Romney 53%, Obama 45%.

But the election is still 5 months away, so it's entirely possible that Obama could start a war of distraction (Wag the Dog).

As for your 0.0092%, it is estimated that the probability of voter fraud is smaller than that, closer to one in about 1,000,000 or 0.0001%.

Estimated by whom, Dennis? You? Democrats? Eric Holder? The NBP Party? ACORN? Give me a citation.

There is nothing created by humans to control humans that can generate a probability of better than 6 sigma as you suggest.

      Let's give an example:

There are approximately 85,000 bank branches in the USA and there are on average about 5500 bank robberies per year in the USA. We all know it is wrong to rob banks. We also know there are processes to stop bank robberies (security).

      How about another example:

Identity theft. Since 2003 we have between 8 and 11 million cases of identity theft each year in the United States of America. There are 300 some odd million Americans so that is 2.6-3.7% a year.

But you think that only 1 in million people would vote for someone else. O'Keefe showed how easy it was to do. Let me make it even easier. Take the last 4 months of obituaries in a voting district. How easy would it be to vote for a dead person? There are 7983 deaths per million. In 2009 2.46 million Americans died. That's a lot of potential voters wouldn't you think, Dennis?

My grandfather died in 2009. When I voted in November 2010, I found my Grandfather's name and signature right above my name in the district sign in book. I notified the poll worker that he was deceased and she had this what do you want me to do about it look. My father had to have him removed from the voting rolls by presenting his death certificate.

Looks like the Dunning-Kruger Effect is in full play here: Increasing Confidence comes with Increasing Incompetence. The more confident a person feels about a subject the more likely he is wrong. Since authoritarians, as Republicans tend to be, feel they are "never wrong" they bring a large measure of incompetence to the political arena and to life in general.

      The Bain Backfire

Well, it's official. The Obama campaign is shelving its attacks on Bain Capital (at least temporarily) and will now pivot to attacking Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts. So says today's WaPo, so it must be true. Yup, head shill David Axelrod will be unleashing the dogs in front of the state house in Boston today, so round up the women and children this could get ugly.

You can almost hear a giant sigh of relief from the growing number of Democrats who were becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the assault on Bain. The anti-Bain bashing was viewed as a thinly veiled assault on private enterprise itself, and most folks concluded that was not a message that would resonate strongly in a capitalist economy. Try as the Obama camp did to explain they weren't attacking capitalism but rather Romney's qualifications to be president, those explanations were lost in all the hot air surrounding this issue. And in politics when you're explaining you're losing, and the Obama crowd was losing this narrative pretty badly.

Now, being the fair and balanced kind of guy I am I thought it might be helpful to the debate to address Obama's experience in public equity as a counterbalance to his attacks on Romney's experience in private equity. We all know about Solyndra and how the government t p*ssed away over $500 million on that turkey. But there are quite a few more dismal failures where that one came from, let's take a look at a few:

"ECOtality. The Obama administration gave ECOtality $126.2 million in taxpayer money in 2009 for, among other things, the installation of 14,000 electric car chargers in five states. Obama even hosted the company's president, Don Karner, in the first lady's box during the 2010 State of the Union address as an example of a stimulus success story.
According to ECOtality's own SEC filings, the company has since incurred more than $45 million in losses and has told the federal government: "We may not achieve or sustain profitability on a quarterly or annual basis in the future." Worse, according to CBS News, the company is "under investigation for insider trading," and Karner has been subpoenaed "for any and all documentation surrounding the public announcement of the first Department of Energy grant to the company."

Nevada Geothermal Power (NGP). The Obama administration gave NGP a $98.5 million taxpayer loan guarantee in 2010. The New York Times reported in October that the company is in "financial turmoil" and that "after a series of technical missteps that are draining Nevada Geothermal's cash reserves, its own auditor concluded in a filing released last week that there was 'significant doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern.'"

First Solar. The Obama administration provided First Solar with more than $3 billion in loan guarantees for power plants in Arizona and California. According to a Bloomberg Businessweek report last week, the company "fell to a record low in Nasdaq Stock Market trading May 4 after reporting $401 million in restructuring costs tied to firing 30% of its workforce."

Abound Solar. The Obama administration gave Abound Solar a $400 million loan guarantee to build photovoltaic panel factories. According to Forbes, in February the company halted production and laid off 180 employees."

There's more where those came from, check out the link below. So when Obama argues that making a profit in the private sector doesn't qualify Romney to be president perhaps he could explain why losing a ton of taxpayer dollars on failed public equity ventures gives our president any street cred whatsoever on this issue. But this story gets even worse because as it turns out the recipients of Obama's public "investments" just happened to be among the major contributors to his campaign. Good grief I'm shocked, truly shocked this gift to the nation would do such a thing.

Obama is in big trouble. He knows it, his campaign flacks know it, and most importantly, the rest of know it too. That's why he is poised to run the most negative and divisive campaign in history, so fasten your seatbelts folks there's rough road ahead. His only hope for reelection is to deflect attention from his own dismal record and paint his opponent as the scourge of mankind.

But look on the bright side: this road is destined to take all of us to a better place, courtesy of President Romney.

      Great article Bill.

Obama is in deep trouble, even many of the Democrats in his own party were uncomfortable with Obama/Axelrod attacks on Bain showing that Obama wasn't the greatest supporter of private investment and capitalism. Obama is looking to attack and drive negative ads against Romney, but at every turn a comparison is made to Obama and Romney looks much better. Today Obama/Axelrod are going to attack the idea that being a governor does not qualify one to be President. That will come as a great surprise to many of our recent Presidents, George Bush II, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan. Jimmy Carter, and Richard Nixon. Apparently a Community Organizer with 2 years in the Senate (a job in which he barely showed up) has more to do with being President.

Obama keeps grasping at straws, trying top find something to attack Romney on that will possibly stick to him. Inevitably though, Obama's resume still looks much thinner, and his failures more clear, when he his compared to Romney.

Well, at least one member of the Obama administration understands something about how to reduce unemployment- artificially remove people from the civilian labor force. Seems to work like a charm.

For all the Obama cult members who insist that all those millions of people who have left the labor force must have taken early retirement,

      http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/job-recovery-is-scant-for-americans-in-prime-working-years/2012/05/29/gJQAnza9zU_story.html

They did not all hit the lottery, either.  Nor did they all suddenly discover they had unknown, wealthy relatives who left this mortal coil- and all their money to them.

They cannot find jobs.  Kind of like all those college graduates who cannot find jobs.

Now, tell me again- how, exactly, are they earning money?  And why are they not in the labor force?  Oh, yeah- BLS says so.  The one currently headed by Hilda  Solis- Obama's appointee.

To quote an old movie - They'll Be Back. . .

Maybe the Dogeater-In-Chief can go back to the "Seamus On The Roof" angle. Jeez. Remember a few weeks ago they trotted out a LESBIAN to lecture about "women's issues" and claim that stay-at-home moms don't really work. That backfired (big surprise). Now this Bain thing is turning out to be a big bain in the ass for the flip-flopper-in chief.

      Bill, Fairfax VA

      The Bain Backfire

Well, it's official. The Obama campaign is shelving its attacks on Bain Capital (at least temporarily) and will now pivot to attacking Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts. So says today's WaPo, so it must be true.

Bill, Fairfax VA, First of all, that is an opinion piece.

Secondly, either you copied it wrong or are being dishonest. I prefer to think the later-- the article said:

Forget Bain — Obama’s public-equity record is the real scandal

      By , Published: May 24

Despite a growing backlash from his fellow Democrats, President Obama has doubled down on his attacks on Mitt Romney's tenure at Bain Capital. But the strategy could backfire in ways Obama did not anticipate. After all, if Romney's record in private equity is fair game, then so is Obama's record in public equity — and that record is not pretty.

      http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/forget-bain-obamas-public-equity-record-is-the-real-scandal/2012/05/24/gJQAXnXCnU_story.html

Yup, head shill David Axelrod will be unleashing the dogs in front of the state house in Boston today, so round up the women and children this could get ugly.

Here is what is truly uggly; Bill...

Mitt Romney ran for Governor of Massachusetts promising more jobs, decreased debt, and smaller government.

      Here's what Massachusetts got instead:

Jobs: 47th out of 50 states in job creation
Taxes and fees: Increased more than $750 million per year
Long-term debt: Increased more than $2.6 billion

Fact is, Romney economics didn't work then, and won't work now.

You can't tell me that this family has no clue about America. He may have money -- which is not a bad thing -- but the health issues that have faced Ann brings everything down to earth. My father always told me that if you have your health, you have everything. Gov. Romney's moral and family character far exceed those of Edwards and Clinton. This is integrity!

What a wonderful couple. Governor Mitt Romney and future first lady Ann Romney are both class acts! He has remained faithful to her throughout their marriage and several children. Some may say this doesn't mean anything. I beg to differ, how one conducts themselves in the home or when no one else is watching tells exactly what one's true character is. Let us pray that the hearts of the American people will be able to see him for what he is a great leader, patriot and the most successful businessman ever to run for president of the United States. Massachusetts got this under Gov. Romney:

      http://aboutmittromney.com/economic.htm

The unemployment rate in Massachusetts had doubled from January 2001 to January 2003, the year Romney took office, and was continuing to increase at a fast rate. He implemented pro-growth policies and programs. By summer the increase in unemployment had stopped and by fall unemployment was dropping. [13] While Massachusetts was 50th, or nearly the worst in the nation in the increase in unemployment rates the year that just ended when he took office, he got it down to 38th place by the end of his first year in office. [14] The unemployment rate continued to rapidly drop for nearly two years, hit a plateau for about a year and a half, then started dropping again at the end of his term of office (see chart below). The year he left office (2007), the trend in Massachusetts' unemployment rate was 12th in the nation [15], a big improvement from the 50th place it was in the year he won office.

Massachusetts got this under Gov. Romney as well. The American people are tired of the lies and attacks from Obama -- the worst president in history!!!! The Obama dogs don't hunt -- especially when he has them for dinner.

      http://aboutmittromney.com/economic.htm

Governor Romney convinced the legislature to allow him to immediately make changes to the existing budget. He immediately slashed spending and balanced that budget. [6] He then balanced each of the four annual budgets he created. He was dealing with a veto-proof legislature that was 85% democrat, but he was able to 'hold the line on all the spending that the democrats up there wanted to do.' [7] The budgets he submitted, fought for and succeeded in obtaining not only were balanced each year, but provided a surplus of $700 million in 2004, [8] nearly $1 billion in 2005 [9a],[9b],[9c] and a surplus of $700 million in 2006. He balanced the budget every year without raising taxes. [10] By the end of his term, he had taken "Massachusetts from billions in deficit to billions in surplus". [11] He turned in a $2 billion rainy day fund at the end of his term in office. [12]

If Obama had a record to run on, he would. All things negative have become all things Obama. Division, blame, hatred, partisanship is all Obama and the Democratic Party have to offer, not one single solution. Why should anyone be surprised the polls are tightening, the party of no solutions is becoming the party of no confidence. Obama was elected with a catchy campaign slogan of yes we can, but that has now been replaced by why we couldn't. Nothing but excuses has gotten old.

Meet Romney's 'Special Advisor' on education policy

      By Steve Benen

      -

      Wed May 23, 2012

Mitt Romney will outline his education policy in a speech today, and as part of his focus on the issue, the Republican presidential hopeful announced yesterday that Rod Paige will serve as his "special advisor" on education.

The most obvious observation is that Paige was the Bush/Cheney Secretary of Education, offering yet another connection between the failed former Republican administration and Team Romney.

The more important angle, though, is why Romney is getting policy advice from the worst Education Secretary anyone's ever seen. Indeed, the only reason Paige was elevated to the cabinet post was the so-called "miracle" he pulled off as superintendent of Houston's schools -- a miracle that turned out to be a mirage when we learned local officials cooked the books.

[A]n examination of the performance of students in Houston by The New York Times raises serious doubts about the magnitude of those gains. Scores on a national exam that Houston students took alongside the Texas exam from 1999 to 2002 showed much smaller gains and falling scores in high school reading.

Compared with the rest of the country, Houston's gains on the national exam, the Stanford Achievement Test, were modest. The improvements in middle and elementary school were a fraction of those depicted by the Texas.... [T]he Texas Education Agency found rampant undercounting of school dropouts. Houston school officials have also been accused of overstating how many high school graduates were college bound and of failing to report violent crimes in schools to state authorities.

Once in Washington, Paige helped oversee Bush's "Reading First" program, which "improperly encouraged" state and local education school officials to spend billions in federal grant money on products offered by favored companies, which happened to be Bush/Cheney donors.

Paige also called the nation's largest group of school teachers a "terrorist organization," and rejected American public schools for lacking "the values of the Christian community."

So, here's a question for the Romney campaign: why on earth is Rod Paige the candidate's new "special advisor" on education policy?

Less than three short years ago the one thing that most of us could agree on is that George and the Boys had made a hell of a mess. Revisionist History not withstanding (and some of you’ll are dang good at it) I still think that we all could agree that the days of George Bush is some place that we’d all rather not go back too.

Yet when I look up at Old Willard’s Advisory Team and such like that is all I see.

Foreign Policy. Yep Same old Neo-Cons and Incompetents that had us invading Iraq and called off the Hunt for Osama and generally made a mess of our standing in the World.

Economic Policy. Yep same old Yahoo’s who want to do things the same old way that crashed the Economy in the first place. Some folks don’t never learn. Heck some folks can’t learn by their mistakes because they can’t admit that they made them in the first place.

Education. Yep. Same old Yahoo’s telling us our Teachers are “terrorists” and “unchristian”. Shucks haven’t you heard the New Generation of Americans don’t need no Education. All they have to be able to do is sign anything that we want them to and we’ll make Wage Slaves out of the rest.

Some Folks don’t never learn. Looks Like there’s a bunch of Republican/T.P. Yahoo’s depending on you’ll to be amongst them.

Great post, IR---thanks for sharing. We're supposed to vote for Romney due to his business skills to create jobs and competency in running an organization. Yet while he was governor, Mass. was 47th in job creation. He saved the Olympics on government handouts. And his organizational skills include hiring retreads from the Bush/Cheney administration (are there no new people with ideas) and a campaign staff that had presided over a string of gaffes. Hardly compelling reasons.

You're going after Rod Paige? Isn't he black? Looks like that makes you a racist, Liberal Yellowneck. Better be careful.

Hey. Did anybody else get a real kick out of David "Sniffles" Walker's rant the other day where he once again condescended with his elitist bulls**t and said that conservatives "vote against their own interests?" Then, as if that wasn't enough high and mighty nonsense, he compared them to children? Does this tool ever learn? Doesn't he realize that he and his imaginary moral superiority are what make Americans HATE liberals? Guess not.

WCA, "See the problem with you folks is that Republicans want to Govern, while Democrats want to Rule America" thats is what they call transference, you attribute your actions to your opposition. Grover Norquist, Karl Rove, Chaney, Boner and more. You just made a personal comment as fact and are totally lying (suprise). You need to review comments made by all of these individuals on their goals for this country and Government, it should not be hard to find they are on video (great invention) something the right really tries to ignore. "If you quote me you are lying" Newt at his best. Its not the left that is or has been scared, it is the right since during the Bush years attempted to create a single party Government and are still at it today. In the words of one of your finest challengers, Don't forget about the 2nd amendment it goes both ways. WCA if your goal is to take over this goverment and country please expect a fight, not doing so will make it much easier to overcome the overlords.

WCA the problem lies within your statement not Feisty's. If the Republicans want to Govern then they should have started in 2009 working with the President not against Americans. You can not Govern if your answer to everything is "NO". You can not Govern if you only accept your way as the right way. You can not Govern if you sign your allegiance to an individual (Grover) and not to the American People. So you need to stand behind your comment and not deflect it to another, but of course that is how the Republicans Govern right.

The concept that the GOP would have actually tried to work with our very good President is beyond their limited comprehension since dissent is all they know. If they don't win - they won't take part. It's as simple as that. They don't know any other way.

SS, they are not even Romney buffoons, remember anybody but Romney in the beginning. What I find most interesting is when you hit them with specifics they cry foul, go into hiding, tell you your nuts or many other intellegent comment but never respond to your statements. You can add MRWSR to the list above as well, tell you they want a debate until you do then it is take there balls and bat and go home time. We do have a problem though if Romney should win. This country will become One Nation under Corporations, for the Corporations and by the Corporations and I am not sure we can get out from under it. Romney is nothing more than a rubber stamp for his masters as has been pointed out, you has him a question and you get "I will have to look into that" "I will get back to you". He has to find out what they want him to say before he answers.

Tis - still buffoons since they will support any imbecile the GOP runs - as evidenced by their now godlike support of Romney - the do all, do nothing. Read their posts on this page again and it's actually scarey that they are so "goose step" in sync with each other. Reminds me of the Stepford wives - except the Stepford wives was slightly entertaining.

There aren't two brain cells between the lot of them.

Did you forget all those bootlicking remarks of yours .... praising Obama as if he were a god ? Do you have selective amnesia, or is it merely the early onset of dementia ?

You consistently attack others for doing what you do on a regular basis, and you seldom make an actual remark about the article itself. For you, this site is merely a chat room for you to attack all who do not think politically as you do !

This will be a tight one, and my current Projection: (Currently the states that will play the biggest are Michigan, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.

BATTLE FOR WHITE HOUSE (Need 270) to Win

Current Projected Electoral locked up by each:

      Obama 227

Of the Above Toss Ups Obama needs 43 to win.

Of the Above Toss Ups Romney needs 100 to win.

So for now, I will use my current research data and pick the following: (Note: The totals will change from new data input polls)

      Arizona (11) Romney

Now we all have our hopes for this country left / right, one will work and one will not, if all we do is shout at each other rather than work as one then we are done. It is my opinion this country is done, it has had its 200 year run but now we are to divided to work as one country, you can blame Obama you can blame Bush/Chaney it does not matter because it is us not them. It's sad that the race will be close, considering the superlative job President Obama has done in pulling us back from the threat of a Depression and with his foreign policy successes, but it is what it is. With the Koch Brothers pouring more money into trying to get Puppet Romney elected than McCain's own campaign spent in 2008, and other 1%'ers fighting to protect their Bush tax cuts, we will have a nasty war on our hands.

I've come to believe that most are drawn to the intolerance & mean-spiritedness inherent in the far-right message. People whom in their own lives have been deeply disappointed, jilted, kicked around - and left bitter because of it. They don't really mind the idea of others suffering, it feels right to them on a level they don't even realize - and thereby the road gets paved for extremists who's policies inflict a badly tilted national table, as it is right now.

And to the extent my theory is true, it's always going to be around. A Darwinist, neo-fascist element will always find an audience.

Many people made a grievous error in Iowa voting for the first time in 2008. I've said it all along It's encouraging to listen to many inexperienced first time voters of 2008 who took a far more educated decision in voting in 2010 and again in 2012. It is warming to see so many Americans who believe they are better at spending thier money than Washington could ever be. Let's vote for change we can believe in this year 2012!

TS, It's not necessary to bow to me. Just use your common sense when you pull the curtain behind you at the voting booth. I was simply pointing out that alot of Americans used their common sense in 2010 and the result was a far better government. It will only get better after Obama leaves office in 2012.

Since when do you get to judge common sense, by what standards yours. Again your arrogance is beyond measure. If I tell you it was not common sense but emotional reaction that lead to 2010 and now there will be a correction does that mean I have no common sense by your standards. Have you notices elections are like the stock market it has highs and then corrections. Maybe common sense has nothing to do with elections but emotions do. Maybe you need to step down off your pedestal and return to the common people.

Here it is folks, I was never so ashammed to be a democrat as I am now, I renounce this party and will re-register as an independent. I refuse to be a part of a branch of government who notonly agrees that it is alright to murder babies but now they have the gall to approve of abortion in the selection of gender. What a sick country we have become, renouncing the basic rules that a marriage is between a one man and one women isthe foundation of a family. The president that I voted for is no more, he has no business saying anything about someone flipping on his beliefs, even tho I do not believe God put me on this earth to judge anyone there is no way I can believe that obama is a Christian. I at this point do not believe is has any religion except whatever it takes to keep himself in the front. I will not capiitalize his name or acknowledge that he is president by doing the same to the office as I believe he has no regards for America at all.

Hey, FR---excessive snark warning to you on the "awkward" moment for George and Laura Bush to visit the White House. President Obama has demonstrated consistent warmth and welcoming in the White House, including visits with other Bush family members and has NEVER made a personal attack on George Bush. A man who, by the way, has never weighed in on the birther nonsense that the President deals with daily from Bush's party.

I never heard him challenge his love for his country. I never heard him criticize Laura Bush for taking on a program that was important to her.

Why is the mainstream US media giving zero coverage to the real story; the Secret Bilderberg Group meeting taking place today in Chantilly, VA where they are deciding (among other things) who they will back for the US Presidency in November?

What are you scared of US media?

How about the voter suppression in 30 states?

These laws do nothing to prevent voter fraud -- instead, they make it much harder for the most vulnerable sectors of our population -- the elderly, people with disabilities, students, minorities, and low-income citizens -- to exercise their right to vote.

In fact, study after study confirms that voter impersonation fraud -- what these laws are supposed to prevent -- doesn't actually exist. Voter impersonation is already a felony under existing laws!

Instead of going after a non-existent problem, why don't we work toward real, positive reforms that expand access to the ballot box rather than restrict it?

President Obama has praised President Bush multiple times as a person, most notably in his book. My favorite comment was Pres. Obama intimating that both of the men aren't good enough for their wives. (We both married far above our station, or something along those lines).

The policies that President Bush enacted have been constantly under attack from President Obama, but he has never said that President Bush ever did anything that would go against what he thought was best for the nation, regardless of Pres Obama's disagreement with those views. To claim that President Obama has attacked President Bush personally as NoLimitSoldier50 did is a flat out fabrication.

Instead of campaigning on his accomplishments, he is going after Romney and in a very vicious way. He wants us to know what kind of person Romney, his business experiences, connections.

My question is, President Obama, what can you offer us, what will you do differently to move this country forward.

I'm just going to throw out a commonsense thought. Wasn't the housing crisis caused by "Liberal" lending practices to unqualified buyers, That was encouraged by the Democrats like Barney Frank. Bush 43 was in favor of reigning that in back in '03.

A catchy campaign phrase like "Hope and Change" or "Forward" might work once but sooner or later common sense will prevail.

          UAW -

No, the housing crisis was NOT caused by Liberal lending practices to unqualified buyers. Those practices may have contributed to a portion of the defaults, but the defaults themselves did not cause the crisis. And just as many defaults occured because middle-class and wealthy homeowners were enticed to buy a bigger house using "interest only" and "baloon mortgages" that were unsustainable when the housing bubble broke.

The reason it became a crisis was because for the first time ever these and other mortgages were allowed to be used as collateral for leveraged financial instruments. These Collateralized Debt Obligations or CDOs were risky financial instruments, but insured like they were not. When mortgages went unpaid, the CDOs defaulted, and the insurers couldn't cover their policies.

So the roots of the "housing crisis" was the deregulation of the banks that allowed them to create these risky instruments. I believe bank deregulation is a Republican ideal, not a Liberal one.

TN, I think you have been mislead again by Obama's "Blame someone else" campaign rhetoric. We know blaming Republicans for "Liberal" Democrats policies is wrong. Let's make better choices for leaders in 2012.

In 2003, while the ranking minority member on the Financial Services Committee, Frank opposed a Bush administration proposal, in response to accounting scandals, for transferring oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from Congress and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to a new agency that would be created within the Treasury Department. The proposal, supported by the head of Fannie Mae, reflected the administration's belief that Congress "neither has the tools, nor the stature" for adequate oversight. Frank stated, "These two entities ...are not facing any kind of financial crisis ... The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."[47] In 2003, Frank also stated what has been called his "famous dice roll":[48] "I do not want the same kind of focus on safety and soundness [in the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac] that we have in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Office of Thrift Supervision. I want to roll the dice a little bit more in this situation towards subsidised housing."[49]In July 2008, Frank said in an CNBC interview, "I think this is a case where Fannie and Freddie are fundamentally sound, that they are not in danger of going under. They’re not the best investments these days from the long-term standpoint going back. I think they are in good shape going forward."[50]

So true, and we can't let this happen again. W Bush was an illegitimate President and due to this illegitimate take over of government approved by the Supreme Court we the citizens and the world have been forced to pay a heavy price.

Job1 - We can't know that. Things can point to that based on a return of all the power elites from the 2001-2009 years, but there are many other factors that will contribute to the direction of the country than the result of the presidential election.

everyone likes to talk as if we are electing a king during presidential campaigns, but the president is little more than an ineffectual figurehead that takes blame or credit as they can while trying to promote an agenda for the country. The past 4 years have shown what happens when the congress doesn't work towards that agenda.

The deciding factor in the direction of this country will be the congressional elections, as it always is. If we continue to elect representatives that won't compromise, behave with vitriol and absolutist beliefs towards their opponents, this country will continue to go the way of Rome, and fall into decline to be amalgamated into the new powers that rise from the ashes.

My only hope is that the absolutists are removed from office, and the congress returns to the dignity and co-operative mentality that helped to make this country great. Not likely to happen i'll admit, but i can still hope...

Mitt Romney on Tuesday morning, telling the people of Craig, Colorado that he wants to put them back to work by firing 145,000 Americans for the simple crime of working in the public sector:

That stimulus he put in place, it didn't help private sector jobs, it helped preserve government jobs, and the one place we should have cut back was on government jobs. We have a 145,000 more government workers under this president. Let's send them home and put you back to work!

But Romney's crazy economic theory is not even grounded in reality—under Obama, public sector employment has dropped, while private sector employment has grown. Obama signed the stimulus in February of 2009. Since then, public sector employment has dropped by 608,000. Private sector employment, meanwhile, has increased by 760,000. Even if you just look at federal employment (which is but a small fraction of the overall public sector workforce), only 26,000 jobs have been added, a slower pace of growth than in the private sector.

More lies from Mitt. Just to get 50.1%

Romney gets a bump after getting the nomination, always happens. He'll get another bump after he decides on his VP. I think after the debates and after people consider the etch-a-sketch cold-hearted elite Wall Street business close down artist versus a man who helped save the American auto industry and pulled the trigger on taking out Bin Laden, Obama will win another term. It may be a close one though, Republican billionaires will spend a billion dollars trying to buy our democracy and continue corporate welfare.

We can rant and rave all we want, but none of this makes any difference at this point. Unless the economy shows some measurable improvement in June and July (possibly August), then voters are likely to start tuning out Obama. Romney saturation of the air waves will not cause more people to think about Romney, but more likely cause people to tune out everything. The only Obama message that will get through will be positive or negative job numbers. And the SCOUTS decision which if negative will give uncommitted voters an easy out to just conclude that Obama was wrong (on everything). If you want Obama to win, expand your business, hire someone, or convince your boss to do the same.

Ruken - if it gets him votes, yes he will. And, he'll embrace (metaphorically) those supporters until someone notices them. Then he'll put them down. We've seen this - remember??

If an NBC poll shows they're tied, Romney must be way ahead. Me thinks Obama is in deep doo doo.

I can't wait to hear what the "blame game" chief has to say, at the unveiling of the Bush portrait, today. Which side of his mouth will he speak from?

People know what Romney wants to do and they are still going to get him into the White House just to get President Obama out and not just because he is a democrat.

But just a reminder: just in case we still want a fair election, of what the GOP and Romney really want to do besides ending the middle class.

Here is a list of the demand from the billionaire dollar donors that want to buy the election, this is legalize bribery, and just think there are only 16 of them that will control Romney and the White House

                  1. Pollution deregulations – eliminate the EPA

                  2. Limiting jury awards – Limit law sues against corporation's wrong doings

                  3. Defense contracts – More money than ever going to the military

                  4. More Corporate Welfare – Subsides, rebates, loopholes and refunds

                  5. Tax cuts – More lower taxes for the top 1%

                  6. Wall Street deregulations – Remove the Dodd/Frank bill that was placed into law to stop the Banks and Wall Street from their bad practices so we do not have to bail them out again.

                  7. The top 1% is paying billions of dollars to get more polices, to make more billions of dollars, so there will be no restriction on anything, so they can get more tax breaks, so they further pollute and destroy the country, so they can make more money and increase their profitability.

                  8. And due to the combination of Voting rights and selling of our democracy to the highest bidder this is their return on their investment 40 to 1 or may be 100 – 1 and it will be the middle class that will pay for this.

                  9. More Oil Drilling – even now under President Obama we are drilling more than ever, they want to drill more.

                  10. There will be no health care

                  11. There will be no minimum wages

                  12. There is nothing on the table in Romney's policies for the middle class.

Fortunately and hopefully with enough peoples votes the election will not be for sale.

Polls this early are not convincing. Romney and Kennedy were tied in October when Romney challenged Ted Kennedy for the Senator seat and in the end Kennedy won by 58% of the vote. Once the conventions are over and Romney's true platform is released I don't see how independents will be impressed. He clearly has stated he wants to abolish planned parenthood which most independents support. He clearly believes corporations are people. People forget how bad this economy was in 2008 and why anyone would want to return to those policies is frightening.

Memory - Independents, Democrats and Moderate Republicans are not and will not be impressed by Romney. And, as much as the polls say differently, conservatives in the South will not pull a lever for a mormon. They'll stay home and just not vote.

You want to bet ? Only the self-proclaimed "Progressives" seem to have a problem with Romney's religion. "Progressives" are showing their religious intolerance more and more.

Good ol' news media trying to make news where there isn't: polls show that Obama is still carrying a healthy lead of electoral votes to beat Willard decisively.

Keep distancing yourself from the facts by ignoring things you don't want to believe, keep using your hilarious koolaid joke, if that helps you keep your head in the sand.

Why is it that you can not believe that obama may be beat fair and square?Maybe it has something to do with the GNOP's history of cheating & stealing to win...?With the occurance of voter fraud being 0.003% WHY did 26 states push voter ID laws over JOBS? Hmmmm?

You'll have some f*cked up priorities!

It's obvious from Feisty's posts that she is one desperate liberal. Her sarcasm and cute "one off's" aren't enough to mask the fact that liberal progressives are destroying what once was a great nation. You don't have look far (Europe) to see where these people want to take us. Sure they'll show their fake "outrage" over showing your drivers license to vote but won't say a word about the pregnant woman who was tased three times for not signing a speeding ticket (Seattle). Don't worry, Obama is going to lose and we will soon get past this "liberal" nonsense while Feisty and her friends fade away in the sunset.

And yet Romney standing next to Donald Trump is not "conservative nonsense" LOL how desperate can a candidate get to chum up to " The Donald"??

Lukey, were have you been Drivers licenses are not valid ID since illegals get those all the time. Do you ever pay attention to the details or just look at headlines. You have to have a Passport, or aquire special new state photo ID which of course you have to pay for. And what does early voting have to do with fraud, you still have to have ID. And what does same day registration have to do with voter fraud since you still have to have ID. and what about purging legal citizens from voting how does that fit into voter fraud. You really need to pay attention so you have some idea what you are talking about.
