Subscribe to RSSMASSACHUSETTS: The story that just keeps on keepin’ on… “Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren acknowledged for the first time late Wednesday night that she told Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania that she was Native American, but she continued to insist that race played no role in her recruitment,” the Boston Globe writes.
Warren said in a statement, “At some point after I was hired by them, I . . . provided that information to the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard. My Native American heritage is part of who I am, I’m proud of it and I have been open about it.”
The Globe does point out: “Two key people who recruited her to Harvard have said they did not know of her purported heritage or take it into account when hiring her. The school did not promote her as a Native American when she was hired, despite the fact that it was under intense pressure to diversify its faculty with more minorities.”

I initially liked Warren, but the more I read and hear from her, the less impressed I am. She had multiple opportunities to get in front of this and be over and done with it, but she chose not to. That shows a political mentality that I don't support. If she was running in my district, I wouldn't support her and I'm now glad she was denied a position in the current administration. She talks a good game, but doesn't play one and I hardly think she would have been the great consumer advocate she was touted to be.
Being caught on stage with Bill Maher should be enough of an indication of what she's all about. Especially when she's only a guest and not on the "debate panel".
Well as it happens, I'm African-American and so are all of you...African that is. Since modern homo sapiens is pretty well proved to have come out of Africa, we are all African so I will start putting that down on all my job applications. Let my people go!!!

Democrats, republicans, liberals and conservatives lie and lie often. They make up things to justify their positions. They make up things to justify their own behavior or to punish someone elses. Since people have been lying since recorded history it is impossible to tell which side started it and which side is the best at it. Show me someone who says they don't lie and I will show you a liar. Who cares?
And this story is "news" because...why??? Must be a slow day.
First, the article is mis-named. Ms Warren did not "claim" ancestry, she informed the employer after the fact. Second, ancestry should be irrelevant. The best person should be hired for any job, with no concern whatever for ancestry. The worst line in the article is that the schools were being pressured to increase minority representation on their staff. That should be illegal. It is no different to give a less qualified person a job (or any other benefit) because they are a minority than to deny someone a job or other opportunity because they are a minority.
She said she was actually referring to a 1994 Jeep Chereokee that she used to own.
Warren makes it clear: just like democrats don't care about taxes because they don't pay them, they don't care about affirmative action because they'll never lose a job from it. In her case, she knows she can just lie to get as many protected group boxes checkes as possible. If a better qualified non-high cheek boned candidate loses the job, so what!?
Why should it matter than she said this? You have Nikki Haley from SC talking about her immigrant family from India. Plenty of Latinos speak of their backgrounds.
The problem is that she is a very intelligent, well-educated and competent woman who can take on the robber barons from Wall Street. Last year, I saw her being questioned by a group of angry white men who obviously had ties with big corporations and didn't like her honestly. I was shocked at the way they shouted her down and wouldn't let her explain herself.
This is one more reason for not to vote for the Repubs.
How did she claim "status" by stating that she has Native American blood? There is no indication that she sought "status" as a minority.
I am from MA. and as sociallyliberal as they come but this is just BS.
1) She DID benefit from it.
2) Then lied about it.
3) Now is trying to say it doesn't mean anything.
