MASSACHUSETTS: The story that just keeps on keepin’ on… “Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren acknowledged for the first time late Wednesday night that she told Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania that she was Native American, but she continued to insist that race played no role in her recruitment,” the Boston Globe writes.
Warren said in a statement, “At some point after I was hired by them, I . . . provided that information to the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard. My Native American heritage is part of who I am, I’m proud of it and I have been open about it.”
The Globe does point out: “Two key people who recruited her to Harvard have said they did not know of her purported heritage or take it into account when hiring her. The school did not promote her as a Native American when she was hired, despite the fact that it was under intense pressure to diversify its faculty with more minorities.”

Hopefully the good people of MA will see through this YELLOW (BROWN) JOURNALISM and elect someone who's motivated by service to the 99% instead of service to the 1%. They have the choice, hopefully they'll be thoughtful.
Why do liberals always have to resort to lying???
@Karen. It usually happens when liberals are confronted with facts. Did you ever notice when they are, they get louder and louder and talk over you? The sure sign of childish conversation. Read the book by Saul Alinsky you will learn all about liberal tactics and how they attempt to carry the conversation. You will notice Obama follows it almost to a T. Divert, misquote and bore your audience with useless garbage so no one can pin you on anything. But don't forget the buzz words for the sheep.
All the troubles the country is facing and this is an issue. Sounds like something the idjit tea party dredged up.
Oh you mean like Romney's dog? Ask yourself this... would you rather be Romney's dog or the dogs that Obama ate???
I try not to "anti-vote" and stay focused on the issues each candidate stands FOR, but she just ensured my vote for Scott Brown.
PLEASE! If you don't vote for her based on this, you were never going to vote for her.
She has done more (with the President) to help the American consumer than anyone else.
I say you are lying about your intent to vote for her in the first place. Jusst my opnion.
Princess Spreading Bull's mother's Indian name was Lyolotta.
Warren scalped Custer at the Little Bighorn. She raided into Arizona and New Mexico with Geronimo. She guided Lewis and Clark and her likeness is at the top of a totem pole in the Black Hills. Yaaata hey. I saw her statue in front of a cigar store the other day.
She cannot prove she is part Native American, that is the controversy.
I think Ms. Warren's policy prescriptions are much more relevant than her ethnicity. If we can't focus on what a politician intends to accomplish if elected, we might as well pull names out of a hat, or just stop having elections and let our wise overlords choose for us.
I think Ms. Warren's positions are wrong-headed, and in spite of the noble intent, will not achieve the desired results. She, like so many of her ilk, continue to believe that more government is the answer to our problems when our experience clearly shows that adding layers upon layers of government have not solved the problems they were designed to solve, and in many cases, created unintended consequences that arguably made things worse.
Real issues are what the press should be reporting on, not this nonsense.
DAVIS: It was Scott Brown who made this an issue. And if the "liberal media" hadn't covered it, you'd be the first to scream about bias by the media in favor of Warren.
Yes, we get it. You don't like "Big Government" which is why the poster boy for the GOP, Reagan doubled the size of government on his watch and made numerous tax increases. You want government out of our lives which is why the GOP is trying to intrude on a woman's right to reproductive choice and violate her body with intrusive vaginal probes. That kind of Big Government you have no problem with. But god forbid someone like Elizabeth Warren should stand up to the mega banks and Wall St in an effort to protect th average consumer. That' smacks of Socialims or perish the thought, even Marxism, right???
George Bush spend money like water and damn near doubled the size of government as well and I heard not a word from the Right. That is, until Obama was sworn in and suddenly from out of nowhere the indignant Right took up their battle cry against government intrusiveness. Interesting to note that is when you got religion.
INTREPID, Do your rules of debate specify that my disapproval of Ms. Warren's policies require me to also defend Mr. Brown, Mr. Reagan, Mr. Bush, and the Wall Street Banks? If so, then you win and she is a shoe-in!
On the other hand, I might be one of those (crazy) people who thinks both parties are nothing more than two wings of the same bird of prey. May I acknowledge the hypocrisy of the Republicans you mention without forfeiting my right to advocate for truly reduced government and decentralized control? Oh, I hope so!
All in all, this was but a pathetic attempt by Senator Brown to distract the voters from the real issues facing the U.S.., and will not change the fact that Senator Brown supported the Mitch song of NO NO NO. Voters should consider this and sing along with a NO NO No to Senator Brown.

Lyolotta is scalped.
WAH WHO WAH! I myself am a full blooded cigar store indian. If she lies about this then she lies about lots of other stuff. She is basically a looney bird. Who believes her dribble about helping the middle class. What else do you think that she will say?
We can count on your vote for Obama. Thank you.
All in All this was a despicable and pathetic attempt by Elizabeth Warren to present herself as a minority for preferential status. Voters should consider this and her weeks of stonewalling on the issue as an indication of her lack of character.
As I understand it, Ms. Warren did not list her claim to be 1/32 Cherokee in order to gain any advantage in college admission or employment. And no such preference was given to her.
I'm acquainted with a number of persons who claim to have some proportion of Native American blood, and they are proud of it. So what? It's harmless, and I don't care whether it's true or not. I also happen to be acquainted with someone who, as well as being one of the top executives of a major U.S. corporation, also is a registered member (having 1/4 blood) of a Native American tribe; he receives regular checks for his portion of the tribe's profits from its casino operations.
I'm confused. What friggin difference does it make whether or not she told anyone her ethnic status? And why does MSNBC think this is newsworthy? Isn't there a gunshot victim's story somewhere that is MORE newsworthy than the ethnicity of someone who worked at Harvard?
RON: It's a big deal because Scott Brown and the GOP have made it into a big deal. No, there is not a story here but the Right has been trying to make it into one. And if NBC had not covered it, they would be screaming about Liberal Media bias.
Warren is nothing more than a radical progressive who also happens to be a lying bitch.
And thank you for your deep insight, objectivness and impartial opinion on this matter.
Yea, she's a real radical because she doesn't want Wall Street and Citi Bank to take over the entire world and bury the average American under crooked and illegal activities. By "Radical Progressive" you mean anyone who does not think as you do, which is to say someone who does not think at all.
Much better to cast your lot with Big Money is this country. I'm sure they'll take good care of you and never screw you in any way. As a matter of fact, I trust Wall St to always do the right thing. What could possibly go wrong? It's not like out economy had a near terminal melt down 5 years ago the uber rich getting off scott free or anything like that, right???
Can someone please tell me what's going on in this chat room? Are all these comments about a famous Shakespeare play?
Sooo, let me get this straight. 1. She says she told Harvard that she was Native American when she was hired, 2. Harvard says they didn't know about her being Native American (which means she was hired because she was white and that she lied about telling them?), 3. She has no genealogical proof of actually being even partially Native American, 5) She's running for State Senator in Massachusetts, 5) And she's a Democrat! Oh, wait, there it is, we're good!! No story here!
Why there are certainly a lot of mentally ill people on this forum, grandiosity, delusions,...I think people filled with anger and hatred are mentally ill. They have medicine that can even out those bad feelings, and get you back on the Road to a Real Meaningful Life. Living with anger and hatred is mental illness. Many people on this forum should talk with a health professional and see if they can't get help. As a country, we should insist that mentally ill people receive treatment and not either try to dispel their delusion, but encourage people such as NH Shellback, Road Warrior etc. to seek professional assistance. Your life can be happy again.
If she can prove, so theres no doubt that's her heritage, then she's legitimate. If not, it looks like she taken advantage of a system put in place to even the playing field for (true) minorities. That would be dishonest to say the least. Apparently progressives can be anything they want at any time they want.
This is one of those story's that deflect away from the issue's.
Brown and the GOP know that Warren is better suited and has ethics, that she will work for the People and not Wall St and Corporations, there fore keep this in the news!
The GOP/baggers are desperate, because they have nothing to offer, more tax cut's and deregulation's, and we all know IT DOES NOT WORK, we have all been trickled on enough!
Apparently the only problem you have is waiting around for someone to trickle on you. Try working or relying on your own effort. To many people have wasted their lives (Listening to Democrat Politicians) waiting for the promise that someone else will take care of them.
SALGAL: Thanks for covering the main GOP talking points.
It's nice to know you are completely independent and rely on positiviely nothing from government. I take it you would have no problem flying on airliners which do not fall under the guidelines of the FAA and thus go unispected? You have no problem eating food not covered by the FDA and likewise have no issue with breathing dirty air and drinking polluted water which is not protected by that awful organization created by that Marxist, Richard Nixon. You are in effect the "Marlboro Man", riding tall in the saddle, depending upon no one else in the entire universe.
What a crock. You remind me of all the GOP congresspeople who ranted against the stimulus act and then when their states and districts had received the stimulus money they proudly appeared at ribbon cutting ceremonies and tried to take all the credit for bringing the money to their state. Or perhaps, closer to home, Scott Brown who rants against the Health Care bill and then PUTS HIS OWN DAUGHTER ON HIS POLICY, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE NEW RULE ALLOWING PARENTS TO KEEP THEIR KIDS ON THEIR POLICY UNTIL AGE 26. That's Right Wing rationalization for you.
The government you prefer will stay out of your bedroom but needs to control and regulate every other facet of your being. I don't want that government, if I did I would get on one of those FAA inspected airliners and fly to one of the last socialist countries still trying to prove that system is superior and take up residence.
just another one straight from the rove playbook.... dirty old white republicans trick
YUS: Ain't that the truth. Distract and put up straw dogs to take the off of Brown and his miserable record.
Old Karl is hard at work and on top of his game. Hey, if he can get the nation to voted for two draft dodgers like Bush & Cheney and make a volunteer who served with valor and merit look like a bum, is there anything that weasel would not sink to?
I'm a mutt. If it is good enough for my dogs, it is good enough for me.
Never heard her deny it. Just another non-news article trying to hype something. No one who hired her even know about it. this is a stupid issue Brown's campaign is trying to use and the so called liberal press is of course helping him.
BILL; Ah yes, that old Liberal Media. You know, that liberal media that hounded Clinton for years over the whole Lewinsky deal and allowed Rove & Co. to smear Kerry and look past Bush's blatant shortcomings.
Apart from the ridiculous spectre of being 1/32 anything, and having it confer something preferential in status for admission to college or a job, the second question is does she prove it?
What a non story.
They hired her. She later told them she had some Native American heritage. It had nothing to do with her getting a job. So what's the story here?
In spite of claims made by partisan Democrats employed by Harvard, it is not unreasonable to believe that she used a false claim that she is of Indian descent in order to obtain her job at Harvard. And if she lies about her ancestry, what else might she be lying about? And if you have two candidates, both qualified, vying for an office, and you know that one of them is a liar, why not vote for the non-liar.
I accept your logic. Now, I can't vote in Mass, but I do get to vote for President. We have one candidate who has been called a liar on national TV by one of his political brethren. Based on that expert critique, who do you think we should vote for?
Obama... because Mittens is a liar !!!!!
But he was not proven a liar. The Democratic Senate candidate was!
