Flanked by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, President Obama signed a bill reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank, a move that he said would help U.S. businesses dealing with a shaky economy.
"By reauthorizing support for the Export-Import Bank, we’re helping thousands of businesses sell more of their products and services overseas and, in the process, we’re helping them create jobs here at home,” the president said, as lawmakers including Republican Rep. Gary Miller (CA) and House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer stood beside him at an auditorium in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Today’s bill-signing extends the authority of the 78-year-old bank, created to help finance American exports, through September 2014 and raises the amount it can lend to $140 billion.
While he praised the bipartisan group of lawmakers who helped shepherd the bill through Congress, the president added that the economy was still too volatile for the government not to do more, noting specifically the Euro zone crisis and the struggles of some rising economies like India and China’s.
“Obviously, the world economy is still in a delicate place because of what’s going on in Europe and the fact that some of the emerging countries have been slowing down. It is absolutely critical for us to make sure that we are full speed ahead.”
Referencing his five-point Congressional “To Do list” which he’s used to contrast with a “do-nothing Congress,” the president urged the body to pass his other short-term legislative priorities like tax credits for businesses hiring more workers and those using energy-efficient technologies.
“There are a number of things that my administration can do on our own and we’re going to keep on doing them, but it gets a whole lot easier if we get some help from Congress,” he said.

It's a delicate balance for Republicans in Congress - they don't want to appear to be obstructionists but don't want the President to succeed either.
Not so delicate Ursula. Obama hasn't done anything to succeed other than his Marxist agenda. To the best of my knowledge, republicans don't support Marxism.

Liberals live in a small cloistered world. They do this by design because they don't want to look at what the real world has in it. The last three state primaries for Senate have Tea Party candidates now in the run-off position against the establishment GOP candidates. Not looking good for those who think the Tea Party has fallen to the wayside... and I definitely know liberals think the Tea Party is dead... better think again.

Who is NOT paying their fair share of taxes? How much more do you want them to pay? It doesn't matter if they can afford it... what is a fair amount of taxes for anyone to pay? You liberals always scream about fairness, define fairness to me when it comes to paying taxes... If I made a million dollars a year how much would you want me to hand over to the government, and if that percentage is fair for me, why wouldn't the same percentage be fair for a person earning $50K a year?

Just think, I as a conservative defend the liberal 1% while the liberals want to eat their own. Even Obama is in the 1% range and I feel he should keep his money. He pays taxes, just as do the other in the 1%.
What I really find funny is the liberals don't say anything about those paying no taxes. They target those who earn the money and give a free pass to those that don't or aren't willing to contribute to society.

brainb your basic argument is if one person doesn't pay taxes that you shouldn't have too either. problem is if everyone was like that, our country would not be able to sustain itself. sure there are people who don't pay taxes either, by not owning anything, like a house, a car, or even having a job, and there are the few who try to weasel their way out of doing taxes.
so what do you do when that happens, do you just not tax anyone and let the country fall apart, do you just cut away all the social programs (education, roads,social care for elderly, ect) and let people fend for themselves , do you raise taxes to help pay for those things

What I find funny (not) is that Brian thinks someone earning $1,000.00 per year should pay 40% in combined federal/state/local and sales taxes, but that a corporation earning $100M to $10B per year should pay zero taxes. If you google "2010 Defense Spending by Country" The U.S. is #1 by far, spending $698 Billion, China was 2nd with $119 billion and Russia spend $59 billion. These two along with the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, India, Italy, Brazil, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Spain and finally Israel. Those countries combined expenditures do no equal what the U.S. spends. If we cut 50% we'd still be spending about three times what #2 China spends. So the empty suits are worried about 5%, that shouldn't like waste of just paperclips and staples. Every Air Force General doesn't need a stealth fighter with their name on it, and admirals don't see a nuclear sub named after them. Apparently republicans have another small country they want to demonize then attack, attack, attack. Doing the worlds work whether it's needed or not. The US Congress is set-up in such a way that only bills that BOTH SIDES agree will be good for the country, get passed.

The military spending bill is a sham that never should have passed, however, no one could get reelected if they had not passed it. Great ploy on the part of 0bama. Spineless congress!
