Obama calls Romney to offer congratulations

Updated 12:20 p.m. - President Obama called Mitt Romney on Wednesday to congratulate the former Massachusetts governor on winning the necessary delegates to secure the Republican presidential nomination.

The Obama campaign released a short readout of the call, which occurred at 11:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

"President Obama said that he looked forward to an important and healthy debate about America’s future, and wished Governor Romney and his family well throughout the upcoming campaign," said an Obama campaign statement emailed to reporters by spokesman Ben LaBolt.

"It was brief and cordial," said a Romney campaign aide. "Gov. Romney thanked the president for his congratulations and wished him and his family well."

Romney, per NBC News projections, surpassed the necessary 1,144 delegates he needs to clinch the nomination after winning last night's Texas primary.

Neither Obama nor Romney has any public campaign events on the schedule today.

That's funny, Romney hasn't won anything yet. The delegates cast their votes in August. There is still plenty of time for Mitt to pull out of the race due to his un-electability.

Sorry nomore, a quick phone call in this situation was set as custom many, many years ago... I could not characterized Obama 'classy' by just one simple gesture! His presidency is filled with statements and actions that by any standard could never be considered slose to 'classy', quite the contrary.

He's going to have to work a little harder in that area as well....!

Romney is going to mop the floor with Obama in the debates

Are you for real? lmao!

Even Willard's own classmate & friend sees the train wreck that's coming;

Sidney Barthwell, perhaps the only former classmate of both Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama, thinks the former Massachusetts governor doesn't stand a chance when facing the incumbent president in debates prior to their November electoral contest.

“When they debate, Barack will smoke Romney,” Barthwell, a district court magistrate in Michigan, said in an interview published by The Daily on Tuesday.

"Mitt Romney is smart,” he continued. “Having said all that, I still think he’s going to get smoked. The best he can do is hopefully come out not looking like a fool. Mitt will find out the hard way as soon as they have their first debate: You don’t debate Obama.”

Barthwell, 64, was the only black member of Romney's 1965 class at Cranbrook Schools and later attended Harvard Law School with Obama. He identifies himself as being politically independent, has donated money to both campaigns and has "tremendous respect" for both men, he said.

That being said, I would love to have heard what else thay said to each other...

Yeah.

Because, yanno, the Dems never win right? They can't, after all, win anything on their own merits.

The fact that more Americans are registered democrat than republican? That means nothing.

The fact that more Americans of both high education (masters and above), register as Democrat than Republican...that means nothing.

Because JH is smarter than all of them combined. He's a one-man wrecking crew, that JH, with economic points that not even Krugman (nobel prize in economics) could contend with.

He's a one-man foreign affairs guru that not even H. Clinton would dare to contend with.

Yeah, that JH. Competency with a capital 'C'. I bet you that guy has gone far in life. Multiple beachfront houses, multi-billion dollar business, graduate-level degrees from the Ivy League...

dang, that JH is one smart cookie.

Where can I sign up to be as Competent as that guy?

And let's not even start with old Rub there...another guy that sees through the deception, showing he too is just flat-out smarter than everyone else...no room for error in that ideaology, no sir...just plain, pure awesomeness. Serious question. I was under the impression he was one of the founding executives of Bain Capital. And, if that's the case, then he is very much culpable for the dealings of his creation.

Obama is a gracious and smart President. I have enjoyed having him with us for the past 4 years and will vote for him again. To take on what he has taken on over the past 4 years and begin a recovery for us is nothing short of amazing to me. The 2007 on meltdown was an unparalleled event not seen since the depression in the '20's, and even that can't be used as a comparison, as we are a global and very different world now. We had the right person for the job, and we still do. He understands on a global level that goes far beyond anything Romney can offer us. There is a reason Romney gets that "deer in the headlights look." He truly doesn't understand or have the experience needed. We need someone with world experience, and a broad and accomplished perspective which Obama has and Romney doesn't. He is a corporate raider and that is it. Obama now will have the opportunity to build on what he has accomplished. All the people on this thread that post insulting things about Obama are paid trolls and or racists depending on the rant, so I ignore them. The truth is that both of these men are decent people...one is just more qualified to be in the job than the other, and in my book, that is Obama. I'm looking forward to 4 more years with Obama and Biden as our leaders.

Ah, it's always such a pleasure to see the usual gaggle of Barack-olytes inflating every single meaningless gesture that BamBam makes in the hopes of maintaining his supposedly Messiah-like image. For crying out loud, politicians making a congratulatory call to other politicians has been going on since the invention of the phone. Yet this traditional and rudimentary act is supposed to be some grand illustration of how "gracious" our president is. Although in their defense, I guess Barry's sheeple have to grasp for whatever they can, since there's not much in his record since his inauguration on which they can hang their hats. But no worries, Barak-olytes...you'll soon have all the time in the world to bask in the glow of BamBam as you look back on his one-term fiasco of a presidency.

I have an idea.

Why not let's just let those with advanced education vote, like post-high school. Mmmmm, Obama wins in this category.

Oh well, let's get those who earn 60K + vote. Oops he also leads this category.

Dammit, lets just let the women vote. S**t, he also leads in this category!

JWilson1234: Please do not clump ALL Democrats into your little paper bag. There are quite a few of us out here that are extremely intelligent. You only have the right to speak for yourself....not for others, especially since you have NO idea what you're talking about. It really gets to me when posters think they can speak for others when they have no right to do so. Each person is an individual....we can speak for ourselves....we don't need you to speak for us or to intimate that we believe something that we don't just because that's the way YOU think. I'm sure there are just as many intelligent Republicans as there are Democrats.....to say otherwise is ridiculous! Don't deem to speak about others when you have no idea what they think or feel! Get the picture?

Ian, so your only proof at linking me to some other identity is that I recently created the profile? I guess nobody ever creates profiles to make comments on this site, right? Only people who've been posting for several years are "valid?" My animosity towards Feisty stems from the fact that I've seen her get first post before an article is published and berates and name calls about anybody who has the audacity of posting an opinion that is opposite hers -- and yet somehow never seems to get banned for doing so while I've witnessed plenty of others with opposing viewpoints get banned for far less. If she and other Newsvine employees are going to make Newsvine a "forum for liberals, by liberals" then they should just say so and be done with it instead of pretending like it's a forum for true and open dialogue.

I think it is funny that people will post false opinions on here as fact, even when it is so easy to look up the facts. Exit polls show that more people with masters degrees and above vote democrat. People with four year degrees and above (includes graduate degrees) vote republican. People without a high school degree overwhelmingly vote democrat. I found it amusing that someone would try to say that the most uneducated would overwhelmingly vote for a party based on individual reliability. Obviously they will vote for the party that promises them a better living through handouts in the short term.

Mackinac Island is located in Michigan and is surrounded by Lake Huron. There are no automobiles on the island except for emergency vehicles. The streets are filled with horses. Some carry a single rider, some pull wagons loaded with luggage from the dock to the many hotels. Some pull coaches filled with folks who are just having a good time and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

As one can imagine with so many horses moving through the street there are opportunities for the horses to dump on the street, And there are opportunities for employment because of the horse manure on the street. Yet the ‘street cleaners’ cannot remove all of the manure fast enough. So the many walking tourists occasionally encounter some horse manure on the street as they glide through the village in search of souvenirs and that famous Mackinaw fudge.

So what do they do when they encounter a pile or two of feisty horse manure in their path? They just ignore it, walk on by and enjoy the festivities.

Now perhaps if we were to consider the person claiming to be ‘Feisty someone or other’ as horse manure we could ignore and walk on by to a glorious recovery of this Nation led by a real American, a person who does not hide his past, a person whose character has not been associated with Chicago thugs, nor a character like Larry Sinclair nor a ’pastor’ who rejoices in GD’ing America.

Could somebody please elaborate (with actual facts, not Faux News scare tactics) why this would be so? Mandated:

Uh, so being a "community organizer" (a made up occupation) and a junior senator for two years is now considered "world experience" in your camp?

You have no idea how hard it is to be a community organizer - I do. It is/was the hardest job I have ever had not to even imagine all the heartbreak that you see and feel - that is if you have feelings. Before blasting it maybe you should try it first. It just is not a 8 hour job but more like a 24 hour job. Always on call at all times of the evening. Not to even mention the living conditions. I did this for over two years. There is so much that is needed to be done. Why did I leave? Because an abused child died in my arms. I was only 19.

So you should be happy you are you and able to come on this site and type away. Probably live in a nice home with a little white picket fence. If you can't help, maybe opening your wallet would help. After the Republicans are done with their hate mantra the conditions are going to be even worse - especially if Romney wins.

So I applaud our President for giving up a job as a lawyer to help - especially in Chicago.

"Also, by being a Newsvine employee, anything you claim about somebody on here that can be proven false can have you charged with libel. "

Um, no it can't. Lawyer here. In order to prove libel, a person has to prove actual damages. Or maybe you win and receive a $1 award but have to pay the other party's attorney fees and court costs, because there was no injury. Simply lying on a website is not sufficient for a lawsuit (or else everyone on the internet would be suing someone.)

Steve1962....you need health insurance because if you were to get cancer (a very indiscriminate disease that affects even healthy people) tomorrow, it would end up costing hundreds of thousands of dollars to somebody (not you, because chance are you would not survive it)....and that somebody would end up being me, in the form of higher premiums.

And....this President did not start the land buying from China...that has been going on for quite some time. The spending at the start of his Presidency was high....had to be in order to keep us from going into such a deep recession. Some of that has been paid back, but if you notice, not much spending has been going on the last year or so. Every President, except for Clinton (a Democrat, by the way) has spent more than the country has taken in....this is not a democratic phenomenon.

And....I hope he raises taxes....somebody is going to have to eventually, or we will never get out of the huge debt hole we are in.

Nice try....but please....try again with something a bit more solid.

Lets hope NOT tiger, for the sake of the American people! We U.S. citizens can not stand to have a President controlled by and beholdin' to Grover Norquist...

Norquist said his group plans to spend about $8 million in the campaign season preceding the Nov. 6 elections, highlighting candidates who have signed the pledge and those who have not.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has signed the pledge. So did nine of the 10 initial Republican presidential candidates.

Norquist's pledge, which started in 1986, has become Republican dogma for many federal or local party candidates.

Only six Republicans in the House of Representatives have not signed the pledge. Seven Republican senators have not signed.

Heaven help us all if we should get a Norquist puppet for President.

Much better off with President Obama!

That is just a fact given that Romney would place a lobbyist and the Mormon Church and the almighty dollar and the 1%ers all above the United States of America.

          We certainly DON'T need that!!!

Obama is also in the 1% and the fact that Romney gives 10% of what he earns to his church, that 10% is before ... and Obama does not give jobs to his friends..but what was it he said? Judge me by the people who are around me, in that case you should throw all the Czars he appointed and him out of office.. had the senate the right to approve his appointees, and the senate is still basically democratically controlled, there would be very few of his, associates in those jobs..

I'm a recovering Democrat that has watched this idiot work his so called magic and look at the state the Country is in. Bush junior was an idiot also but when you hear obama talk about Bush barrowing at the expense of tax payers what the hell do you think your guy has done 5 trillion more in debt and it hasn't even been four years, God help us all if he gets four more years but I really don't think he will because the smart people will over power this time.PS: I'm not a Republican and would never want to vote for one of them but at the same time I have no choice this time around because I don't want my kids to have to live in hell if he wins again.

I don't like Romney any better than Obama, I just don't think his Mormonism is a reason to dislike him. The Norquist pledge is indeed one of my main reasons for not being much of a Romney supporter.

However, when choosing between the lesser of the two evils, I do tend to lean Republican, for the simple reason that the government is going to mess up and be incompetent no matter which party's in power, but if the Democrats are in power, they're going to introduce more government for them to mess up. If the government was actually capable of doing what they say they will, however, I would lean Democrat.

              Jackie...

Your logic does make things very clear...if our tax dollars were actually respected and valued by political leaders and were indeed mostly spent wisely, a lot of folks would have less of a gripe about paying them.

But when one opens one's eyes and actually see how our dollars are often abused by some who hand them out and others who receive them...it's pretty easy to resent the tax dollars paid and the people who abuse them.

Gee guys, get with the times...

Actually it's college transcripts that are in vogue these days...

Now that the issue of the president’s birth certificate has been laid to rest (mostly), some conservatives are turning their attention to a new obsession: Barack Obama's college transcripts.

Last week, a website that already had offered a $10,000 reward for Obama's transcripts from Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law School, increased the bounty to $20,000.

About a year ago, Donald Trump, among the highest-profile "birthers," helped get the mini-movement started. After the president released his long-form birth certificate, Trump abruptly changed subjects:

"The word is, according to what I’ve read," said Trump, "that he was a
terrible student when he went to Occidental. He then gets into Columbia; he then gets to Harvard. ... How do you get into Harvard if you’re not a good student? Now maybe that's right or maybe it’s wrong, but I don't know why he doesn’t release his records."

What do these "transcripters" (if we may coin a phrase) hope to prove?

                  http://www.latimes.com/news/politics

Seems any shiny object will do...

This transcript hunt is to try to find the one grade that sticks out and try to make a case that Obama is not intelligent, and that there has been a massive conspiracy by the people who run Harvard and UofC to get this man elected. It is all so ludicrous.

But facts , logic intellgent thought process and reality does not work when you are a Republican. and their "don't how me accountable for my actions or words -- just do what i say' attitude-- Economics and basic math and history are not "good subjects" for most republican -- especially in the last several yearts-- I do find it interesting that many of the people "leading the charge" againist Obama and gis grades on this thing never graduated from college themselves -- . Jus like it is a proven fact (not option) that more better educated peole tend to vote democrat (with the exception of the most wealthy -- Romney's friends). Again facts, reality , truth. not good sunjects for republicans. .

My degrees were in various subjects, and I sincerely doubt that you can factually say that "most" Republican's degrees are in "hard" subjects. Unless you have factual information that clearly states that, I don't think your comment can be considered valid. I know a lot of Democrats I (the ones that I know) who have degrees in Engineering, Physics, Math, Biometric Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc., so to say that Democrats don't also have degrees in the "hard" subjects is a bit ludicrous on your part. I don't think it matters what "party" you're a member of...there are probably just as many Republicans as Democrats who have advanced degrees....it's apples and oranges.

That is because Obama must have fully rehabilitated from his admittedly frequent weed and cocaine use back in college. Take your pick...a druggy or a bully?

ItsAboutTime: Do the research and listen to the president in his own voice state that he drank beer heavily, tried drugs enthusiastically and learned that smoking pot in a brand new van wasn't much different than smoking pot in a dorm room. Keep digging and you will hear the president answer in response to the question, "Did you inhale?" that he did and that he thought that was the point. Keep digging and you will find, written in the president's own book that he did a little blow when he could afford it.

Grow up...Romney is not a bully. However, if you consider a driven, successful businessman a bully because of something he did in grade school, then Obama is a druggy for doing drugs in college and smoking. Just saying...how far back to you want to go in their past experience? It will not go will for Obama if you compare apples to apples. Have you read his book, btw? So many Liberals have not, yet they blindly support him. It will open your eyes.

Obama was an addict until he recently when he says he "quit" smoking...since nicotine is technically an addictive drug too.

"Truth-Hurts" says anyone calling Romney a bully must call Obama a druggy also. But Obama wrote about his drug experimentation days. Romney instead tried to hide and then deny and now minimize his violent high-school homophobia. He actually attacked another boy with scissors. So far no one has accused Obama of mugging old ladies for crack money. Give that time. So what should we conclude? Obama admits that he enjoys feeling good, and Romney is not ashamed of dangerously violent fits of hate-based rage. The truth really does hurt.

I've done my homework. Obama was not a druggy, regardless of the 'words' you use to describe his behavior in college. If you polled half of Congress, I bet you would get the same answers and would you call one of your holier than though GOP candidates a druggy? At least Obama has the courage to admit what he did, not try to lie about it.

                        Truth_Hurts-3416308

Romney out right apologized for his behavior and "Bullied" Homosexusals while in HS. However, did he do anything to speak out against that kind of behavior today? Nope, all he did was apologize because he had no other option. If he had been a true 'statesmen', he would have said "BULLYING Of this kind is morally wrong". Of couse, he can't say that, because it would cost him to much of the relgious right wing vote.

Accomplished business man? Sure, if you count buying up a successful corporation, taking out massive amounts of "DEBT" against it, firing every worker, then claiming bankruptcy and letting the American Taxpayer bail him out (BAIN) a success.. then yes, according to you, he is.

The words I used were from his book - the one he wrote, and they were used to describe his behavior in high school.

”Dreams from My Father” has been widely acclaimed as an introspective and insightful read far from the anodyne campaign-oriented books politicians often produce, traits that Obama’s critics believe make it ideal for use against the candidate.

In a passage describing his high school experience in Hawaii, for example, Obama explains the allure of drugs: “I kept playing basketball, attended classes sparingly, drank beer heavily, and tried drugs enthusiastically. … If the high didn’t solve whatever it was that was getting you down,” Obama intones, “it could at least help you laugh at the world’s ongoing folly.”

                        1. GT-2021701 has an obscene 'avatar'. No one needs their own 'avatar' to note this.
                        2. There is no such thing as homophobia.
                        3. If Obama's scholastic records show he was mediocre, then he was mediocre.
                        4. If Obama at one time or other used Cocaine, Marijuana and was a drunk, then so be it. He at one indeed was a criminal and perhaps a felon.
                        5. If there is nothing to this birther stuff, BHO could make it go away in a heart-beat. If instead, those who bring it up are cursed at and ridiculed, reasonable people must assume there is substance to it.
                        6. The Democrats have Andrew Cuomo for a good candidate. The Democrats with any hope of keeping the White House should drag BHO into a room and do a Torricelli on him. Come up with some reason that he decided to quit.

Let’s send an eviction notice to the pretender in the Oval Office this November.

You can blame Obama for anything you like. I am VERY Skeptical of what happened with Solyndra. If it comes out that President Obama himself did facilitate this and has full knowledge, then I would expect him to receive the same punishment as anyone else. Just remember this, Congress passed the Stimulus BILL that included funding for Solyndra. So if you want to start pointing the finger of blame, let's go to everyone in Congress as well.

Romney probably isn't a bully today like he was as a kid. That doesn't mean he is not ruthless. He has people working on his behalf that are, indeed, bullies.

Both Romney and Obama are smart and successful men. If they weren't they wouldn't be where they are today. One was working closely with the least of our brothers and sisters and the other used our brothers and sisters for his own personal gain. You figure out which is which.

As for the drug thing. I wouldn't be afraid to bet that many of our leaders did drugs as kids. Some probably do today. Bush was a lush and did drugs. Some of the most outspoken talking heads (Limbaugh) are addicts. We have had Presidents in the past that swilled alcohol. President Harding had booz in the White House during prohibition and President Grant was sometimes so drunk they had to sober him up before public appearances. The same goes for President Taylor.

Both President Obama and Governor Romney are gentlemen and behave as such. I can't say as much for some of their supporters, however.

I don't think he was a bully in high school. I think that he pulled a prank and that people today are all too eager to label people "victims."

As for Obama's gentleman status, that remains to be proven. Gentlemen don't demonize groups of people at one function and then ask for their financial support at another.

I wonder how you would feel if it was done to your child ? I was never successfully bullied, they tried but I had a killer left hook and right upper-cut.....And you know what I was the bad guy...I am not proud of hurting people even though they started it.. And did it to many others.....I practice turning the other cheek today..But I have changed and can admit to my wrongs, Romney can't and you can't admit that it was wrong....That is why your GOP party is a thing of the past and we will progress onward...And you nuts think you have a monopoly on Christ's teaching....HMMmmmm....Maybe you right-wingers ought to practice what you preach and stop advocating bullying in school and around the world bombing women and children....Which you justify in your mind because they are a different race than you....

I am sure that he had little to do with what he was called by his parents.

I think his parents called him "Retard".

                            I guess that's why I'm not President.

Both Obama and Rmoney being "brief and cordial" wa a wise thing. Maybe some here could bebefit from thre example --Now about the "drug" thing -- this is not 1950 folks -Let's not get a;; "holier than thy" here ---I think we all know that there is a very good chance that anyone born and growing up after in the last 50 years has been "exposed to" if not actually done some drinking or did some kind of drug (especially in high school or college) -- Even Mitt (despite being a Mormon) -- Much rather have a guy who use to drink and do drugs many years ago (kind sounds like GW Bush-- don't it?!) -- to a high school bully and elistst snub who still "does not care about poor people" - and thinls corproations are people and have more rights than actual human beings. Both are actual Mitt statements -- not my words.

Sad that the class exercised by Obama is not followed by the morons who permeate the MSNBC Obama Reelection Blog. Even a simple "congrats" from Obama is another reason we need to reelect him. Obama's congrats was the right and usual thing to do, nothing more, nothing less.

As everyone knows, the President was keeping with Willard's metaphor, when he spoke of a "prairie fire of debt". And obviously, we all know the speech was made in Iowa, where terms like "prairie fire" and "cow pie" have local appeal.

They can't invest any capital dollars on GM or any other company in America but they can gamble $1 billion away on a candidate that isn't even supported by his own party members. Must have something to do with the "Rubber Stamp" policy he keeps mentioning. If this clown makes it into the WH say good bye to our constitution and the American way of life.

Sorry Rich-2 but Obama has a far greater campaign chest than Romney - actually, since he's been president he has also been fund raising, too. So far he has amassed over $100 million and counting......more than any previously sitting president. So if anyone is buying the presidency it's Obama and the democrats. As far has who has more merits to win this election it's still up in the air. So, the daily polls aside, we won't know that until the final votes are counted. But keep up you pessimism and your spirits!

Yes President Obama is classy and has created 4.1M jobs and if we didn't lose 4.2M jobs during the Bush administration then our economy today would be a whole lot better. I never expected that he or anyone else was going to do miracles with job creation and the economy since we were in the worst state economically since the Depression.. And taken that fact I think he has done very well with the recovery considering that no Republican would assist in making the economy better. And Romney hides his worth in another Country so he doesn't have to pay taxes but we are to trust him to better life for the middle class and create jobs. The R's talk about jobs but they don't create them....they CREATE Tax Cuts for their wealthy friends and will snuff our Medicare and Social Security out like they have been wanting to do for years. Hopefully the American people won't vote for someone who has FLIPPED FLOPPED on every issue just to be elected. Let's hope that money doesn't buy this election!

JFK, you obviously haven't been paying attention. The federal gov'ment has shrunk during Obama's Administration. No he didn't create more gov'ment jobs but combined, consolodated people and takst, and reduced redundancy.

Baloney Adler. Obama has grown federal spending at least 3% per year.

So how does Obama measure up?

If one assumes that TARP and the takeover of Fannie and Freddie by the government as one-time budgetary anomalies and remove them from calculations — an approach taken by Holtz-Eakin — you get the following picture:

—A 9.7 percent increase in 2009, much of which is attributable to Obama.

—A 7.8 percent increase in 2010, followed by slower spending growth over 2011-13. Much of the slower growth reflects the influence of Republicans retaking control of the House and their budget and debt deal last summer with Obama. All told, government spending now appears to be growing at an annual rate of roughly 3 percent over the 2010-2013 period, rather than the 0.4 percent claimed by Obama and the MarketWatch analysis.

Exactly. Government has shrunk by half a million jobs while the private sector has grown. Look, credible citations!

"The government sector of the economy shrank during the first three years of the Obama administration, but the private sector grew more rapidly than it did during the first three years of either of George W. Bush’s terms in office. "

                                  http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/05/04/business/economy/off-the-charts-shrinking-government.html

And it's also true that under Obama, spending has risen slower than at any time in the past 60 years. The canard about his "out of control" spending is pure myth.

The government sector is not the federal government. Local and state governments shrunk because they cannot deficit spend. And yet, local and state governments have managed to squeak by somehow. Amazing, isn't it?

Of course this could be true. As I read these comments a lot of people seem to have doubts about his marriage license with Anne... hmmm? Seems like I've heard a lot of people say that - of course, I can't name names! And you know if you hear one thing it might be true so I want to see the other four marriage certificates so that I can verify that they are blank! What?! Mitt doesn't have the four other marriage licenses to prove that they're blank! I and alot of people I've talked to find that very suspicious. I know someone said that the marriage license he has is genuine, but you know I've never seen it and of course we all know what you can do with a computer so what ever he posts online is probably a fake. If it wasn't a fake he'd go ahead and let us see it, but he's probably afraid that we'll be able to see the white-out that's covering the names of the other four wives. I've even heard that he pays them wages and files employee taxes for them but of course his dad, George, still has Hispanic friends from Mexico who work at the IRS and won't allow those records to see the light of day...at least not until after the election.

By following the established precedent of congratulating challengers, wow how impressive. When he is on his own we get comments like "cow-pie of distortion", presidential indeed. (sarcasm)

Admit it: You're finding it harder and harder to dislike the President on a personal level, aren't you? It's OK, you're allowed to find him personable, intelligent, charismatic and charming, while still attacking his policies. Very few people actually dislike the man, and it's easy to see why.

"Cow pie of distortion" is a pretty funny response to Willard's "prairie fire of debt."

Clotho, "Likeability" and "Competence" are two, entirely different things !

In the White House, I will take "Competence" over charming, "imitates Al Green", "dancing with the czars" Obama any and every day of the week. We need someone who knows how to turn the economy around .... not someone who is making the talk show circuit and yukking it up with Hollywood.

Obama is financially incompetent to lead this country. We have had NO BUDGETS under Obama's reign. Obamacare will be a disaster with inefficient government bureaucracy controlling 1/6 of our economy ...... befrore they blast off to Vegas to blow taxpayer millions on wasted "meetings" and "planning conferences".

What a nice gesture for the President to make a call to Gov. Romney. I hope Mr. Romney is as generous when he calls President Obama in November and congratulates him on his reelection.

I agree. If you remember correctly when Obama was pushing to get the debt limit increased his near exact words were something like, America needs the Republican't to get on board. It will keep people working by securing unemployment benefits. If I were a political nut I would have had a stroke. Since when did unemployment start counting as "employed"? Unemployment is meant to pay you for up to 6 months at the benefit rate to help you until you find another job. It is not "A Job". But somehow they count it that way. Glad folks are getting assistance but where does that money come from that pays for unemployment? The government which gets it's money from taxes that Americans and businesses are paying. I'm all for some charity but blindly dishing it out with no regard from where it comes from is crazy. I'm afraid we are in a downward spiral that will continue to tax people and businesses until the companies shutdown and create more unemployment. Hope you get a job soon, Patty.

Joey, Unemployment comes out of our paychecks. Yes, when you are unemployed you get assistance you already paid for. Kind of like insurance. You pay for it until you need it and then when the need comes you benefit. Normally 6 months is plenty of time for someone to find a job but with this recession it would seem that people need more time. We are slowly coming out of it. More and more people are being hired every day. It will take time. Bush didn't screw it up over night, it took him 8 years. It will take at least 8 years to fix it. Whether it is fixed by Obama or a combination of Obama and Romney. (I doubt Willard would do much, however, to fix the real problem and might even make it worse, but we can give him benefit of the doubt)

It's pathetic that you all can't get in your hollow brick brains that Wiley Romney is a SELFISH, SELF-ABSORB, LYING HYPOCRITE. Take off the hate glasses and look at his past experience. The only one who truly BENEFITTED financially in his tenure in BAIN was HIMSELF!! He was a lousy MA governor - the unemployment was in the DUMPS. The ONLY saving grace he provided for that state was the healthcare plan that he NOW WANTS TO ABOLISH for the rest of the country. He don't give a damn about education, because he wants you all to STAY STUPID, so you can NOT see who he truly is. He has 2 Harvard degrees and he did not pay a penny towards tuition because he was born rich. He did not serve the military, because he had a wealthy excuse to HIDE OUT in FRANCE. His sons inherited the same benefits, PAID for college and did not have to serve in the military. BUT he'll make sure your sons and daughters will be serving in another war he most likely will start -because he is that clueless! All he cares are that his millions stays in his PERSONAL coffers without having to pay taxes! ANYONE who would give their precious vote to this greedy selfish vulture is beyond NUTS!!

Extending unemployment wasn't just the right thing to do for moral reasons. It was essential to keeping the economy from crashing further. Every dollar of unemployment that families received went right into the economy, to pay for food, energy, rent, etc. It helped the country's economy for everyone.

I am no fan of Romney but lay off his religious beliefs. There won't be a hot line to Salt Lake City any more than Kennedy had one to Vatican City. The LDS Church does not condone polygamy any more. If Willard is a Bishop he is like many other LDS elders who achieve that title. As for the King James version of the Bible, Catholics don't use it either. Athiests can believe or not whatever they want. The nice part about living in America is we have the freedom to worship or not as we see fit and should be free of ridicule and persecution. Many of our ancestors came here to avoid religious persecution. The founding fathers were well aware of the diversity of faith that existed and still does, even moreso, today. And that is why we have separation of church and state among other traditions. (By the way, Thomas Jefferson wrote his own version of the Bible)

-Mormons use the KJV all the time, they're not trying to "downsize" it
-the mainstream Mormon church is not affiliated with the wacko splinter groups like Jeffs', and has consistently condemned them
-polygamy has been against church policy since 1898, and being a polygamist is probably the fastest way to get yourself excommunicated from the Mormon church

Also, the Catholic church has had abuse problems, and nobody has a problem electing them anymore. The mainstream Mormon church hasn't had the same kind of abuse problems - the splinter groups are NOT a part of the same church - and you have a problem electing them?

So happy that Romney shipped all of our jobs overseas and the Republicans blocked all the infrastructure legislation that would have provided millions more jobs as Republicans verbally claim they are for jobs, jobs, jobs, while Boehner himself exclaimed "The Congress is not responsible for jobs".

When you believe your lying eyes, you are always in trouble. If you vote for Romney you will have more of the same.

You have been fed a pile of propaganda. Please educate yourself instead of being misled. We are for jobs.....sustainable jobs that grow our economy, not jobs borrowed from the future. That does nothing but destroys the prospects for the next generation. Why do you want us to harm those in college and younger?

I don't think so , if there were , Santorum would be the Republican candidate !!!!!!!!!

                                            BK ;

Under Reagan and Bush: $3.4 Trillion increase in the debt.

                                          • Under George W. Bush: $6.1 Trillion.[1]
                                          • Total: $9.5 Trillion. (without counting interest)
                                          • But wait, there's interest on that debt ... GO HOME YOU TRICKLED DOWN ECONOMIC REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE STEAL FROM THE DIRT POOR AND GIVE TO THE FILTHY RICH 1%ers '' H I P O C R I T !!!!!!!!!

Just like a mortgage, the debt earns interest, and so the Reagan-Bush-I debt grew during the Clinton years. The average debt interest rate in those years was about 6.5%, which would increase it over 50% without compounding, but with compound interest the total debt – including interest – increased by $2.2 trillion.

                                            • Total Republican debt from above: $9.5 trillion
                                            • Interest on Reagan-Bush debt under Clinton: $2.2 trillion
                                            • Interest on $11.7 trillion after G. W. Bush: $0.3 trillion
                                            • (detailed calculation)
                                            • Grand Total Reagan-Bushes Debt: $12 trillion (as of Sept. 30, 2010).

If the Republicans had not run up this $12 Trillion debt, we could easily have pulled out of the Great Recession.

                                            WeAre -

Alrighty - I will give you those numbers you qoute, and good for you. But.....one question.

If the total of the Reagan/Bush/Clinton interest on the debt/Bush 2 interest on debt totals 12 trillion, I would agree that this is not a good thing.

The question then would be this - the debt is now at roughly 16 trillion, representing what would be roughly a 25% increase in the debt - in only (approximately) 3.5 years.

How long were Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2 president? Are you actually trying to claim that our current president is doing BETTER with this problem, given his growth in debt vs time in office?

And oh yeah - congratulations on the rants filled with a mix of religious hatred, obvious hate of anything not liberal, and a truly glaring lack of ability to make any logical sense at all.

I come to this site for amusement, and you, sir (or ma'am, of that is the case) win my chuckle of the day award. I thank you for taking the time to entertain me - I honestly do appreciate it.
