In Vegas, Romney fundraises with Trump, woos casino magnate

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- In a whirlwind half-day visit to Sin City, Mitt Romney is enlisting a powerful new financial backer, rallying the troops with the state's governor and is set to collect millions at a high-dollar fundraiser with the ever-controversial Donald Trump, all before the sun sets in the desert tonight.

No sooner had Romney's campaign parked the chartered 737 plane (right next to Donald Trump's black and gold emblazoned jet), the candidate was off to meet with billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who almost singlehandedly kept Newt Gingrich's campaign afloat with millions of dollars in donations to Gingrich's super PAC, but signaled months ago he would support the Republican nominee.

Aides said the meeting lasted nearly an hour at the Venetian Las Vegas Casino, Hotel and Resort, but there was no word of a formal endorsement or gift to the pro-Romney super PAC.

Romney next visted a Somers Furniture warehouse, but not for a new ottoman. The former Massachusetts governor campaigned for the first time with Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, a rising star in the Republican party who originally backed Texas Governor Rick Perry early in the primary campaign.

Romney took aim at President Barack Obama's 2009 comments not to "blow a bunch of cash in Vegas," by pledging his love for the city, which helped deliver a major caucus win for the all-but-certain Republican nominee back in February.

"I'm counting on you guys to go out and make sure that you elect a president who tells people to come to Las Vegas, not to stay away from Las Vegas. Who gets us on the track to have a strong and vibrant economy again," Romney said.

As Romney continued to attack the president as "hostile" to business, he veered into new territory, passing along the story of a restaurant owner he met with in a closed-door roundtable who suggested adding a new provision to the constitutional requirements of the presidency: time in business.

"I’d like to have a provision in the Constitution that in addition to the age of the president and the citizenship of the president and the birthplace of the president being set by the Constitution, I’d like it also to say that the president has to spend at least three years working in business before he could become President of the United States," Romney quoted the restauranteur as saying. "You see then he or she would understand that the policies they’re putting in place have to encourage small business, make it easier for business to grow."

And perhaps no man is more embroiled over the constitutional requirements of the presidency than Romney's host at his final Vegas event of the day, Donald Trump, who today doubled-down on his controversial beliefs that President Obama's birth certificate may be fraudulent, telling CNN that "a lot of people don't agree with that birth certificate," a charge host Wolf Blitzer labeled "ridiculous."

Trump hosted the fundraiser for Romney tonight at the Trump International Hotel just off the Las Vegas strip with a top asking price of $50,000. Trump spokesman Michael Cohen said the event tonight could raise "millions" for Romney campaign's victory fund.

Among the guests was Newt Gingrich who said, “We believe this is an American-born, job-killing president.”

Answering a question about Trump, he continued: “Others believe he was born elsewhere and kills jobs. But Obama is a jobs-killing president. He was born in Hawaii. That doesn’t affect that he is killing jobs.”

I guess he is refering to people as the Obama supporters. Afterall, he will be the one elected president.

The only purpose Mitt Romney and the current GOP serve is to pull the whole political spectrum to the right, which makes Obama look reasonable by comparison.

Romney might lose but their side still gets most of what it really wants; which it appears the other side doesn't mind conceding anyway.

Is it just me or is there something seemingly wrong about a Mormon pandering for money in Sin City?

Feisty, it sure would be nice if what was happening in Vegas tonight could stay there permanently. Let Romney and Trump enjoy the desert with the rest of the reptiles they resemble.

Unions take money directly from the workers who get: representation during contract negotiations; legal representation for labor disputes; protection from termination for no cause and other unfair labor practices; political influence through PAC contributions to labor-friendly politicians; funding for apprenticeship teachers and facilities. Union workers by and large PAY DUES WILLINGLY AND PROUDLY. The anomaly of the corrupt union official is a thing of the past. And let me ask, are corporations people while unions are not? Stop spouting these anti-union LIES.

Sam- Show me any union that makes no political contributions and I'll agree that you have a point. Otherwise, keep drinking that kool-aid!

PS: You're proud to of having to give money to somebody else to keep a job? In my vocabulary, that's called "extortion. LOL!

What's the difference between a union and a corporation? Answer: a union has never created a job.

Romney cannot own up to even being a Governor. Romney's record as Governor is on FULL DISPLAY. Romney cannot OWN UP to any of the Positive Legislation that he signed because IS NOT PART OF GOP/TEA IDEOLOGY on Social Issues.

Romney cannot admit he implemented Health Care. He is even DENYING HEALTH CARE for Women. He has to become a SEVERE CONSERVATIVE to appeal to Bigots in his Party to beat Obama. Romney TOTALLY LIES about the President's Record and the Man and the Press does NOT CALL HIM OUT ON IT ENOUGH.

Whenever Romney has to appear in front of Ordinary Citizens, he tries, but cannot APPEAR GENUINE.

Romney wants to say Education is not a priority in the Obama Administration. This coming from a person who has gone to Prep School all of his life and passed along because of who and being well off POSED NO PROBLEM to his making the Grade, whether he was Qualified or Not. If anyone can address Education, it is President Obama. All Romney had time to do was be a Bully in school. Even his Missionary Assignment for the Mormon Church was a Piece of Cake - France, not the "hot Jungles of some Third World Country."

The Choice between Romney and President Obama should be Clear, if it were not for the GOP/TEA pushing Bigotry RE-INVENTING the President as a person and who he is to their LOW INFORMATION voters and the PROPAGANDA news outlet, FOX NEWS

If you haven't heard already, pleas allow me to pass on this news from Nevada (my state): the state Republik party no longer exists. It was taken over by the Ron Paul supporters, who played by all the rules and got themselves elected to management positions within the Party. Approximately 90% of Nevada's Republik Party delegates are now Ron Paul delegates, although they are bound to vote for Gov. Romney on the first ballot only at Tampa. The non-Paul members of the Nevada Republik Party have started a new party: Team Nevada, that supports Gov. Romney. Money from the Romney campaign, and the National Republik Party will flow to Team Nevada, not the Nevada Republik Party. Pundits here now describe the Nevada Republik Party as a third party. I wonder if this is a trend that will migrate eastward?

Obama hates the poor. His every policy hurts them. Energy policy paying off environmentalists raise gas, food and energy costs astronomically and the poor are hurt the most. He has not even mentioned all the suffering poor and middle class that were devastated by the tornadoes - the only president to not even visit much less lead a relief effort. He is stuck up - a petulant child-man who cares for no one but himself! The most uncaring and divisive president in history and after four years of lies and broken promises only a total libtard could possibly vote for him - or someone who selfishly expects to gain something personally by having him steal it from the productive and give to them. Although I do not agree with your conclusions, unless some major event interjects itself between now and the November elections, the telling moment will indeed be the face off between President Obama and challenger Mitt Romney in the series of scheduled debates. Between now and then the polls will switch back and forth but will indicate that both men are in a tight race. By October, the electorate that are currently ignoring the race will turn their attention to the debates and start to draw some conclusions with regard to whom they wish to see guide our country over the next four years. It is imperative for the successful candidate to win over the undecided independents, because without them, neither party has enough votes to put anyone in the White House. Hang on folks, it's gonna be a wild ride between now and election day.

Well said truebro. Check out any city where they have reigned and it will be mired in poverty and crime. The states that have gone o the GOP are the ones that are prospering and that make Obama look good since their unemployment is lower than the national average and he takes credit.

It would help those so called liberal states if they weren't sending more money to the feds than they get back...unlike most of the so called red conservative states who are welfare queens because those states get more from the feds than they put in...liberals indeed

Hangs out? Do you mean they get together to have dinner and play poker weekly?

Get someone to read his biography to you - "Dreams of myy Father." It is all laid out there where he brags about these creeps as well as his cutting classes in high school to do drugs, and how he sought out the Marxist professors in college. His words but the liberal press won't report them.

I am less concerned about teenage personal inappropriate behavior than I am about a teenager's leading forceful enforcement of his personal view of conformity.

But my query to truebro referred to contemporary activities.

truebro - and you prove, once again, that mental midgets make up the GOP. The Ayers and Wright stupidity again. What's pathetic is that's the best you have. You should be totally embarrassed!

Are you going to let anyone else post or are you going to keep saying the same garbage over and over forever? You could have said it all in a single post. Guess that brain only works in fits and spurts eh? Knowing you're a redneck conservative makes all demos know they are spot on in their thinking. Ever consider a lobotomy?
