Romney: Obama grasping for 'twig' as evidence of progress

CRAIG, CO -- Deep inside Colorado's coal country, Mitt Romney on Tuesday accused President Obama of grasping for a "twig" to hold onto as evidence the administration's economic policies had succeeded.

Romney said that, if he were elected, he would usher in a more business-friendly administration before a crowd of several hundred supporters gathered for a rally in Craig's rustic downtown.

"Now [President Obama's] campaign these days is trying to find a twig to hang on to, some little excuse they can grab and say, ‘Look, things are getting a little better, aren’t they?’ And the answer is yeah, things are getting a little better in a lot of places in this country, but it’s not thanks to his policies. It’s in spite of his policies," Romney said.

The presumptive GOP nominee continued: "You see, every recession ultimately comes to an end, but you’d expect that this deep recession might come back to an aggressive turnaround, but it didn’t happen."

The former Massachusetts governor's campaign has said his focus this week would be on an administration "hostile" to business, and Romney pressed this thesis during today's rally as well.

"Government sees small business and big business as the enemy. We’re not the enemy. Some of these liberals say they like a strong economy but then they act like they don’t like business. An economy is nothing but the collection of all of our businesses together," Romney said. "I want our government to support small business, middle-size business, big business. I want jobs. I want government that’s an ally of business not an enemy of business.”

Romney, who will likely clinch the nomination with the results of tonight's primary in Texas, also continued to lash the president's energy policy; his remarks found a welcome audience composed of roughly 150 coal workers, dressed in dirty overalls and hard hats.

"He said he was going to create some 5 million green energy jobs. Have you seen those around here anywhere?" No, as a matter of fact he's going after energy," Romney said of the president. "He says he for all of the above when it comes for energy, you heard that. And yet he's made it harder to get coal out of the ground, he's made it harder to get natural gas out of the ground, he's made it harder to get oil out of the ground."

But Romney's pessimism about energy and the economy was not echoed by the citizens of Craig (Population roughly 10,000. Elevation: 6,185 feet) who came out in droves to see the Republican candidate, and listen to a local high school band cover pop hits on a glorious Colorado morning. A number of residents described for reporters a recovering economy based on hunting and fishing, and coal mining and oil exploration along the western slope.

It really shocks me after all the money blown on failed attempts to bring up the economy ,people could still be thinking obama knows what hes doing.if hes done so much for the economy don't you think he would talk about it .Don't you think he would have a positive ad speaking of these big accomplishments.the only two things positive Ive heard him talk about is gm and bin laden bin laden just fell into his lap, and gm still owes all the money they were loaned and the jobs they put up are all out of the country . now we here how mitt is not qualified to be president .this is a joke obama is the most unqualified person to ever be potus.Around the world we have lost all respect third world countries thumb there noses at us .because they know we have no pull anymore.Even if it was bushes fault for the economy does that mean we put someone in charge that dos not have a clue. I would vote Democrat if it was someone that knew what they were doing. IF obama was a stock broker would you let him invest your money .Only if you never wanted to see it again. I think I would rather have Romney invest it for me remember hes rich how do you think he got that way. Buy investing in solyndra, I don't think so . Organizing a company would be the same as organizing the government ,the president has been missing in action running the government hes been running off bushes tax cuts, its just been running itself on auto pilot. I am sure someone will have some way to turn around what im saying, but I don't hate obama all i am saying is check facts on things, in other places to see if i am wrong. And one other thing I have known many many Mormons I live in utah and they are about the most honest giving people you would ever meet .why do you think people try to hire young girls as there nanny s. And they help anyone that comes to them with welfare and they have the most organized private welfare program .The government should model there's to be like it .

Anybody can blow 5 trillion and print so much more US dollars to devalue the dollar on the world market and knock down the credit rating of the country from triple A to AA and now soon to be A. I am certain a great number of the masses have no idea. The price of gas is ALSO factored by the actual VALUE of the dollar.. which at this point is dropping like a lead weight in the middle of the ocean..... Hence OVER $3 instead of Under $2...

Is this how obama saved the auto industry? GM required to cut 51,000 jobs to get the Government bailout, auto companies required to cut some 2,243 dealerships resulting in 112,150 jobs lost. You don't see those figures in obama's "I saved the auto industry" propaganda.

Just more smoked blown in the face of America. Keep drinking that obama kool aid.

obama is a joke...The most disruptive force to ever enter american politic's has decimated the economy. Nobody in business wants to do anything till he is gone. That is why everything is stagnated. Once dispatched in November the economy and fortunes of the USA will make a about face. Mitt ... you gotta tell us something we dont already know!))

Yeah..by the way, check out GM stock now and then".. And dont forget all those SWEET ittle union deals behind the doors.. {I think it's called TRANSPARENCY} So now we still have a continuation of all those sweet little deals to pay for, and a completely devalued company.. All on our buck. Hows that for free enterprise?

When Obama had a Democrat controlled House and Senate and a failing economy a true leader would have worked to head off a financial crisis, but Obama cannot lead. He instead spent two years pushing through a Health-care plan that the CBO now says will cost exponentially more than Obama claimed and the economy crashed around him. In order to make sure he got union votes the next time around Obama took taxpayer money and used it to pay off his union supporters, while private sector workers were told to go screw themselves. Of course the Constitutional Law Professor's plan will be ruled unconstitutional anyway. The economy collapses, almost revives back to where it was merely terrible and Obama tells us things are improving. The sad part is that the people who vote for him have no intention of ever making it on their own, without a Government handout or a job fr4om the Government so they'll vote for him anyway. Greedy, selfish and stupid.

I suppose Mitt's idea is to bring a tree trunk to hit the middle class with and leave the "job creaters" (who won't create jobs unless it's overseas) over the head with it!

After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar, but never worked as an attorney.
As a venture-capitalist, Romney's first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. That company, called Staples, now has over 2,000 stores and employs over 90,000 people.
Romney or his company BainCapital (using what became known as the "Bain Way") would go on to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino's, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger
King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others.

Got your calculators handy? Let's recap.
                                · Volunteer campaign worker for his dad's gubernatorial campaign 1 year.
                                · Unpaid intern in Governor's office 8 years.
                                · Mormon missionary in Paris 2 years.
                                · Unpaid bishop and stake president for his church 10 years.
. Took no salary as president of the Salt Lake Olympics 3 years.
                                · No salary as MA governor 4 years.
. Gave his ENTIRE INHERITANCE to charity.
                                · That's a grand total of 28 years of unpaid service to his country, his community and his church.

Why? Because that's the kind of man Mitt Romney is.

And he will show you his:
