At West Point, Biden touts foreign policy, warns of new challenges

Vice President Joe Biden hands a West Point graduate her a diploma on Saturday.

WEST POINT, NY -- At the graduation ceremony of some of the most elite new members of the U.S. military, Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday praised the Obama administration's efforts to end wars abroad, saying the military drawdowns allow for a "rebalance" of foreign policy.

Addressing newly minted second lieutenants at West Point's Michie Stadium, Biden spoke at length about the Obama administration's foreign policy achievements: ending the Iraq War, killing Osama bin Laden, and banning torture because "it was the right thing to do."

"President Obama and I came into office determined to end the war in Iraq responsibly, and today our troops are home," he said.

Highlighting emerging issues like China's economic might and the threat of cyber attacks, the vice president said that the winding down of the Iraq and Afghan conflicts allows the United States more flexibility to address new factors that influence the global landscape.

Vice President Joe Biden speaks to West Point graduates on Saturday.

"Winding down these long wars has enabled us to replace and rebalance our foreign policy, [to] take on the full range of challenges that will shape the 21st century," he said.

Among those challenges is the ever-evolving relationship between the United States and China, he said, noting that the two countries don't "always see eye to eye."

Speaking to a group of veterans, Vice President Joseph Biden recalled the emotions that overcame him when he received a call in 1972 informing him that his wife and daughter had perished in a traffic accident.

"There's no doubt that America can compete, and America will win whenever and wherever the playing field is level," Biden said.

Although Biden did not mention the ongoing election fight, he echoed some lines from his past campaign speeches, including a heaping of praise on those who executed the mission to kill Osama bin Laden last year.

"These warriors sent a message to the world that if you harm America, we will follow you to the end of the earth," Biden said.

And he referenced the day of the attack masterminded by bin Laden, calling the class of graduates members of a "9/11 generation" that will be remembered as America's greatest.

"Your generation, the 9/11 generation, is more than worthy of the proud legacy that you will inherit today," he told graduates.

West Pointers were lucky to have Joe Biden address them. In spite of his occasional gaffe, this man is astute on foreign relations. He loves and supports our country. His own sons have served in our military and he knows the sacrifice they each make.

Kudos to the grads. Kudos to Joe.

West Pointers are lucky but not to have Joe Biden address them. Joe is an embarrassment as a politican and most of the Graduates didn't want him as a speaker because what he says and does to our military is classless.

Please don't vote for Obama/Biden in 2012 because I don't know how this country can survive another 4 years with them. We are offically the laughing stock of the world. We need a strong leader not a wishy washy one.

Are you better off now or 4 years ago? Of course not and this administration blames Busch and will continue to do so to stay in office. Let them take responsibility for their own stupid actions.

I'm better off now and getting better every month. The fact that you aren't is sad, but things are improving. However, put Romney in and all successes will collapse.

The Obama administration has a way higher approval international approval rating in the world than the Bush Administration. Actually the rest of the world approves the Obama admin more than we do. We haven't been the laughing stock of the world since Bush. I would say the killing of most top terrorist leaders with drones and not wasting our soldiers has been a very tough and successful stance over the last 3 years.

most of the Graduates didn't want him as a speaker because what he says and does to our military is classless

Are you presuming to speak for the military officers that just graduated? Overall, most military officers I have spoken with are weary of the war and the effect it is having on the troops. They are satisfied, though not joyous about ending the wars, and how this administration is handling it.

Who are the tax payers supporting? Those that recovered from the resession are far more likely to be paying taxes.

Biden touts foreign policy? Is this the same Biden that was against the surge in both Iraq and Afghanistan? Is this the same Biden that said that the Iraq War was lost? He counts the killing of OBL as a foreign POLICY accomplishment, I would think it was a military accomplishment and not a foreign policy. While I applaud the killing of OBL by our elite special operations forces, it should never have been used for political purposes and it should have included making sure those Pakistanis that helped us were protected from reprisals from the Pakistani government, mainly because they took the raid as a slap in the face to them.

As far as the Iraqi War, the removal of troops was in an agreement between the Bush Administration and the Iraqi Government, and really had nothing to do with Obama. If Obama had gotten his way we would still have forces in Iraq. Remember he tried to negotiate a new SOFA but could not get the Iraqi's to agree to our terms so we HAD to leave in accordance with the Bush/Iraqi Agreement.

When it comes to Foreign Policy, Joe Biden is a joke and Obama really doesn't have one.

Say, if Obama is a joke on foreign policy, why isn't the republican establishment attacking him on it?

Maybe their battlecry's to bomb Iran, deem Russia as our biggest threat, and go into Lybia with guns blazing or leaving Libya alone is their attack on Obama.

I can't make any sense of it but republicans seem to think they have it figured out.

We have Joetheplummer with his ESP able to determine that the graduates didn't want Biden there.

12349876 is able to know black ops or he is psychic enough to defy all facts and claim we have more troops being added to Iraq for a war that is not longer happening.

sfcret deems the Iraq war as an example of perfect strategy, executed by Bush. The fact that no WMDs were recovered, 30 false documents were used to justify the attack, and 4000+ American lives were killed with no exit strategy, no stabilization in the region, no celebration as liberators, and no spoils of war was a huge success because Bush got a free pair of shoes thrown his way for his efforts.

Seriously, with such a record on foreign policy, implemented with such perfection brought to us by Bush and Company, why aren't republicans running on foreign policies?

The ugly truth for liberals is that Obama has no real accomplishments to run on. Hence Obama and Biden have to sell the foreign policy fictional narrative …. Featuring the courageous and neverending “I Got bin Laden” end zone dance.

Obama kicked it off with a Big Bill commercial, Clinton touchingly reflecting in a somber voice ”He had to decide …. that’s what you hire a president to do … you hire the president to make the calls when no one else can … nobody can make the decision for him.”

The editors of IBD had a slightly different take on that, though …. stating in their “Memo Reveals The ‘Gutsy’ Bin Laden Call That Wasn’t” … “the final decision to pull the trigger on the world’s most-wanted man was delegated to an admiral who undoubtedly would have been thrown under the bus had the mission failed.”

Seems there was a memo and according to that memo written by Leon Panetta (obtained by Time magazine), William McRaven, a 3 star admiral and former SEAL called the shots …

“The timing, operational decision-making and control are in Admiral McRaven’s hands.

That sounds OK, but the truly amazing part, what was stunning was the next sentence …

The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the president.”

In other words … if everybody pinky swears it’s OK - ”nobody can make the decision for him” …. unless it goes wrong … then McRaven made the decision.

If that second sentence isn’t an intentional “CYA”, codified and documented cowardly out to blame McRaven …. If that isn’t a reservation under the bus next to the oil pan … what is? Truly gutless since everyone knows no one really knows after the first shot is fired. That is certainly not how a real CiC leads.

Clinton talks about the risks, the SEALs … “suppose they had been captured or killed … the downside would have been horrible for him.”

The downside would have been horrible for Obama – that is what Obama’s main concern was? These guys were risking their lives and Obama was worried about his political risk?

Obama is simply not worthy of these men.

And btw, 25 of SEAL Team 6 were killed … 4 months later … 4 months after the Obama administration outed SEAL Team 6 in their celebration and naïve exhuberance … all killed in a planned ambush of SEAL Team 6 – resulting in the largest SEAL loss in history!

Think that was a coincidence?

Yea … About as coincidental as 2 airliners flying into the 2 tallest buildings in NYC on the same morning – resulting in one of the largest losses of life in American history.

Obama was so very concerned about offending the sensitivities of Muslims, was so very careful of his handling and respect for bin Laden’s worthless corpse, but Obama didn’t hesitate to “spike” the football and jeopardize the lives … lives that in fact were subsequently lost … the lives of the real American heroes.

So Obama had to make a trip to Dover for the photo-op. Too bad the families had requested no cameras … Obama took his photographer anyway and managed to get the money shot broadcast/published in time to make the news deadlines.

You call that respect?

The sad part for Obama was that after the SEAL loss, the planned feature film to be released in October, coincidently just weeks before Obama’s re-election, had to be moved back to after the elections. That’s really something when Hollywood libs pull back because the political capitalizing / agenda is too obvious, shameless and crass.

The Pentagon’s Inspector General is investigating whether or not the White House released classified information to Kathryn Bigelow and Ethan Miller, the director and screenwriter. Evidently many in the military, intelligence and special forces communities were shocked when the two, among other things / places- showed up at a CIA ceremony celebrating the SEALs with upper echelons of the White House. Now it turns out that the secret real SEAL team leader was introduced, Hollywood got access to the top secret CIA operations “Vault” …. The guy in Pakistan that identified bin Laden and made the raid possible was not protected and was subsequently tried for treason … What a bunch of pathetic, clueless, bumbling buffoons Obama and Biden are.

And btw - If getting bin Laden was the be-all and end-all, why did 640 Americans have to give their lives in Afghanistan since Obama was told bin Laden was in Pakistan? 640 … that’s more than 1 ½ times the total number lost under Bush in over 7 years!

Decisive Commander In Chief as Obama tries to portray himself?

Bush had troops in Afghanistan within 2 months of 9-11 and had driven bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the Taliban out of Afghanistan within another 2 months – one of the most incredible military accomplishments in history considering the number of forces and swiftness. Obama took almost 10 months to take out an old man protected by 4-5 guys with AKs.

Libs remind us everyday how Obama proclaimed he would go into Pakistan to get Osama. They seem to forget that Obama also proclaimed that Afghanistan was the “smart war” … the war “that had to be won” … “that he would win the war.”

And how is that going?

How many years has it been since anyone has even heard Obama say the words “win and “Afghanistan” in the same sentence. How many times has Obama even talked about Afghanistan .. what 2 addresses in 3 ½ years … one announcing doubling down while giving the Taliban what is tantamount to a “we quite date” and the other confirming the “we are still quiting?”

Does anyone realize that of the 1,545 total losses in Afghanistan – 73% have come under Obama … Almost 3 out of every 4 deaths have come under Obama in just 3 ½ years of the 10 year war?

Does anyone realize that our average monthly loss rate under Obama is over 5 TIMES the loss rate under Bush, that in 23 of Obama’s 40 months – we have lost more lives than Bush’s worst month …. All for a “responsible withdrawal” …. A place Obama is going to just walk away from!

Training? Our allies are killing us, their trainers … walking up and shooting our troops in the back of the head in secured areas. Obama’s pentagon counts these deaths as combat in effort to hide them, yet turn the murders (those that survive) over to Afghan authorities. Estimates of these hidden atrocities are as high as 200!

Our ally … that has stated that if it came to a conflict between Pakistan (our former ally) and the US … they would side with Pakistan! And we are dying for these guys?

Obama is a unmitigated disaster …. Nothing but an incompetent community organizer way out of his depth.

SeekingSanity says...

West Pointers were lucky to have Joe Biden address them.

How pathetic. It is an absolute honor and privilege for anyone to address the West Point Class.

Biden nor Obama are not worthy of these men and women. It is a testament to their focus and dedication to country that puke bags weren't necessary.

In fact in many posts I have said that Bush took his eye off the ball in Afghanistan and should never have gone into Iraq. Because he stood on the deck of an Aircraft carrier that gives Obama the right to to "spike the ball" over the killing of OBL? It makes them both look silly.

As for lying about WMDs in Iraq, a lot of the information was the same used by President Clinton. Also a lot of the Democrats in congress supported the Iraqi war when it was voted on. My whole point is Obama wants to take credit for ending the war in Iraq when in fact he wanted to continue stationing troops in Iraq but was turned down by the Iraqi government. So much for his foreign policy negotiating skills.

@Ido - the incoherence isn't on the part of the reader, rather the poster. If you are going to spin a tale about graduating cadets from an Academy being addressed by the VP, and tie it to 9/11 conspiracy events (apparently planned by Bush, but now Obama), and tie it to a conspiracy about the killing of bin Laden and the fate of Seal Team Six, along with the death rate of troops in Afghanistan but ignore the death toll in Iraq, stirred in with a Hollywood movie, shaken with an imprisoned Pakistani doctor and an attack on Pakistan .. and that just scratches the surface of the unsupported insinuations.

If I want a dose of impending invasions and Chinese troop buildup in Cuba and Mexico, FEMA camps to enslave the general population, Harp caused quakes in Japan and Maryland, underground Draconian/Reptilian feeding bases, plenty of other sites deal with those issues. What any of that conspiracy theory fun reading has to do with Biden addressing West Point is simply beyond me.

Again, the point of the lotsa Bob#s/paragraphs/subjects was what? To illustrate delusional paranoia?

GT: Sfcret - By political purposes, do you mean like standing on a AC carrier with a mission accomplished banner?

About the "Mission Accomplished" liberal crap, what is wrong with the CiC congratulating a crew, a crew that had the longest deployment since the Viet Nam War, a crew that had in fact accomplished their mission - executing flight operations in the most dangerous work environment in the world in a time of war?

Why are liberals too intentionally obtuse to not accept that war and mission are not synonyms?

Have any of you heard of the Civil Mission, World Mission I and World Mission II ... the Korean Mission?

Regardless ... why do you wantonly ignore what Bush actually said on that flight deck that day ...

"We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We are bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous."

"Our mission continues...The War on Terror continues, yet it is not endless. We do not know the day of final victory, but we have seen the turning of the tide."

Does that sound like Bush was saying we had won the war?

Nope, "Mission Accomplished" was taken out of context, distorted and used for political capital - Nothing Less.

And what did libs accomplish by undermining the war effort, marginalizing the CiC?

Aside from motivating the insurgency in Iraq and the Taliban in Afghanistan, it interesting to consider another thing Bush said ... a reoccurring theme of "for diplomacy to work, words have to have meaning."

After 12 years of speeches, 17 UN resolutions .... what was working. Words and resolutions certainly weren't.

Why would they .... they had no meaning.

Bush also talked about the Axis of Evil and libs loaded their diapers.

Funny that out of Iraq, N. Korea, Iran, Syria and Libya ... turns out that Iraq - the one country everybody in the world knew/believed had WMD - was the only one that didn't?

Yea ... right.

Why did Hussein lose everything, including his and his sorry sons lives?
He simply did not believe an American president's words ... didn't believe Bush had the guts to actually do it.

Funny ... it was too late for Hussein & Sons, but what about the others? Gaddaffi seems to have believed, turning over his nuclear program ... Iran had stopped their program ...

Then the liberal news led off every night with the daily death updates, the milestone deaths ... "this makes the 'blank' death since President Bush announced "Mission Accomplished" - Bush was marginalized and neutered..... the political game had been won .... the big worry, the biggest state sponsor of terrorism, Iran, re-started their program.

What might have been?

Regardless, Bush had a grand vision, had the guts to go with it, but greatly and tragically underestimated the depravity of those concerned solely with partisan political advantage.

Oh well, Obama got the old man sitting on the floor of his bedroom watching old videos of his glory days ... the glory days before Bush came along ... before words had much meaning.

God bless all those that served ... those that sacrificed so much .... regardless of the political they were handed.

Aside from the rightwing collapse cowards who can't stand the truth (we could collapse your posts too, and then what?), this is the only one with a good point of discussion:

Taishmoser

New poll has those more likely to have recovered supporting Obama, and those that have not recovered supporting Romney.

Who are the tax payers supporting? Those that recovered from the resession are far more likely to be paying taxes.

There are always those, primarily low-information voters, who blame the current person in the White House no matter what. Of course congress has far more control of the purse strings than the POTUS, and currently the Teapublican House is blocking job creation--These folks just don't pay enough attention.

There are some, primarily rightwingers, who are employed who despite their wages flat-lining and their benefits disappearing, blame safety nets as the problem for all our woes (not realizing they too may need a net one day), and worse believe the poor do not pay taxes.

This is "cow pie distortion." Even those collecting unemployment have to pay taxes unless they have dependents to write off, and the same goes for other assistance like food stamps that are geared to help children. And income taxes are only one tax, so of course the poor pay sales tax, state tax, maybe even property taxes.

The 47% of those folks not paying their fair share of income taxes are large families (religious-Right), and the self employed/business owners not subjected to third-party reporting (W2) that abuse write-offs to show zero income. The rest are the rich who only pay 15% on capital gains.

So STOP with the cow pie distortions and start looking out for your own best interests. At least Do No Harm - Obama/Biden - 2012!

Ah - another fine post by boblotsa #s/paragraphs in which he completely misses the point - the politicization of military accomplishments.

Bush's infamous speech to announce an end to major combat operations in Iraq was a massive public relations flop, heck, he didn't even capture Saddam until December 2003, 7 months after his 'mission accomplished' speech. He ended major combat operations, yet the war continued on for almost another 10 years with massive loss of life.

After killing bin Laden, Obama made a simple, to the point speech (notice, he didn't airlift an aircraft carrier to the White House lawn or hire a plane with a banner proclaiming "bin Laden is Dead") delivering the message, "mission complete - bin Laden dead". His speech was a PR success.

Not only did Bush bungle the war on Iraq, bungle any sort of exit strategy, he continued to display his ineptness by delivering a speech that was a PR disaster.

Ah, but go ahead Bob, and continue on with your rants that libs with loaded diapers hid WMDs from the troops, that libs are responsible for troop and civilian deaths - it helps retain that delusional aura you so competently display.

Too bad the liberals here on the vine can't comprehend what you said. It really shows just how far our country's education system has fallen under liberal control.

The educational system has always been liberal/progressive leaning, and thankfully so. Otherwise we would have higher institutions of learning that only teach us creationism, intelligent design, and bible studies as majors, with minor degrees in math, literature and art, and science relegated to heresy.

Already, we have to fight conservatives and their efforts to re-write American history by renaming the Slave Trade Route the Atlantic Triangular Trade Route. I can only imagine the next target will be renaming Japanese Camp Internment effort the Japanese Paid Holiday Act.

Extreme conservatives do not believe in education, they believe rote learning or put another way, propaganda memorization.

You got dead pirates, dead Al Qaeda leaders, dead bin Laden, and a dead Gaddafi.

West Pointers were lucky to have Joe Biden address them. In spite of his occasional gaffe, this man is astute on foreign relations. He loves and supports our country. His own sons have served in our military and he knows the sacrifice they each make.

Bob. I read your posts... ALL of them and it. But there's a lesson for you here:

Less is more while "more" is usually an attempt to rewrite history. This is true with your posts.

The reason no one is arguing point by point is that it's impossible to know where to start the debate... with your first false premise?... with your first false conclusion?... the first time you made "something" from nothing?

Those of us with "chain of command" decision making experience see absolutely NOTHING wrong with the way Obama organized, consulted, delegated, or otherwise decided the fate of bin Laden... beats the @!$%# out of being the puppet of your puppet master VP like Bush was.

Yes, the White House processes always include political cover. They always do. Every smart president always includes political cover in all they do... it protects the man, the country, the office.

Isn't the bigger point that Obama has not had to use his political cover?

Most think it is. And most don't swallow your twists and turns.

Did ol' Joe happen to mention THEY got Ben Ladin?,lol,(no help from the Man who built up the military forces, equipped them,developed the foreign contacts, the worldwide intelligence apparatus and the technologies that have kept us safe for the last decade), Well, there were a few more Foreign Policy "accomplishments" this administration has actually done on their own that He did fail to mention;

First day in office, returned a bust of Winston Churchill, a gift to the American People from England, insulting Them and embarrassing Us,(oh, if They were were only so quick to return tainted campaign contributions).

Obama stated he would not use the nuclear first strike option to defend the United States and would not use it at all to protect our allies in Europe and Asia, effectively abandoning those areas to Russian and Chinese spheres of influence.

Negated missile defense treaties with what had been our new Eastern European allies, refusing to station U.S. defensive troops in Poland , in order to prevent what happened in Georgia at the hands of the Russians from happening to them,(it is interesting to note shortly after that a Polish aircraft that had been maintained recently by the Russians, while carrying the Heads of the Polish government, crashed in Russia, killing everyone on board, of course the Russians investigated the incident and found themselves totally innocent, and that was Good enough for our President.

When an extremist Leftist President at the end of his Constitutionally restricted term in office in Honduras tried to illegally extend his rule, and the Honduran Supreme Court following Their law, removed the Man, Our President and Secretary of State,(Obama and Clinton), denounced Them and tried to impose sanctions on the legal Government until They allowed the radical to stay in power, fortunately Honduras showed great courage and refused to violate Their Constitution,(even though it is also interesting to note, shortly thereafter, during the Fast and Furious investigation, it was found Honduras was one of the Countries the Holder Justice Department funneled illegal arms to, arming anti-government forces in that country, more to come out on this, but mere coincidence I am sure).

And of couse let Us not forget the main beneficiary of those illegal weapons, the anti-government forces in the Pro U.S. country of Mexico,(how many thousands of people have been killed by the weapons Our "Justice" Department illegally sent there? Who knows)

He also failed to mention the great successes this administration has had keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of North Korea and Iran,........oh......that's right, .....never mind.

Relations with our staunchest ally in the Middle East, Israel,..........never mind that one too.

and lest We forget the Arab spring, this Administration took an ally Egypt, and a country that was at least cooperating with Us then, Libya, and actively participated in the Destruction of those Governments, with no idea,(as far as We know),who is going to replace them, while completely ignoring the very real atrocities committed by an anti-American Dictator in Syria, doing nothing to help the people there.

Yup, this Administration has done a "heap" of things in just a few short years, imagine what they could do in another term when they would not have to worry about being accountable to anyone.

North Korea developed nuclear capabilities under the last President, and Iran is pretty much in the same place they've been for a decade. Kind of ridiculous to bring that up.

Obama, without the loss of a single American soldier, aided populist uprising and protected the civilian populations of two countries, and your complaint is he didn't do it thrice? Maybe he should have fixed all the problems in the region?

Or maybe you don't like the idea that people in a foreign nation have the right to whatever government they want, friendly to us or not. We intervened where we did because it had a chance to succeed without drawing us into a decade long ground war. Obviously not the case in Syria, and tho it'd be the right thing to do America wouldn't tolerate that level of military intervention right now.

Also seriously? People are still talking about the sting operation? Do you not know how these things work, and that they happen everyday? There are obviously way more than enough guns flowing to Mexico, the government didn't add appreciable to that, they tracked weapons that were going to be there anyway to find out how it's happening and maybe stop it. Like when a cop sells drugs to identify buyers and sellers. Or we allow money to be transfered for criminal purposes so we can track it. Or you know, any of the hundreds of other daily examples of that type of police work.

Also, seriously, more politicians could use Joe Biden's problem of being "too sincere". The guy speaks what he feels. This speech was particularly powerful. Dunno why we can't focus on that, I don't see how anyone of any political stripe could deny the message he gave.

"There will come a day, I promise you, and your parents, as well, when the thought of your son or daughter or your husband or wife brings a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eye."

Capt Tripps

In April and May of 2009 North Korea, in rapid succession, restarted it's nuclear weapons program, exploded a large nuclear device, and began work on delivery systems.

In 2011 Iran, with help from Russia, restarted its nuclear arms program.

During the Arab Spring Libya lost an estimated 35,000 people dead, much greater than anything that had happened beforehand, while Egypt lost a relatively smaller 850, still, much greater than anything that had happened before and putting Israel in extreme danger from what had been a relatively secure flank, and when combined with what is occurring in Iran, greatly increasing the probability of Israel having to take action there, in the interests of their own survival, which will cause the region to explode.

Sting Operation?,No,First of all, THOUSANDS of weapons is not a sting, THOUSANDS of weapons is arming, To be a sting operation there would have had to be some mechanism in place to track, account, and recover the weapons in question before they could do any harm, there was never any such process, completely negating the fairy tale of it being a "sting" operation.

With apologies to Omar Khayyam:

The moving hand of History writes,

and, having writ,

moves on,

and all your wishes to deflect or change it,

will not call it back again,

to change one word,

or erase one line.

reddev and tp -

You are prime examples of the 'modern' education system, spouting your version of history - re-written by the progressives that fail to understand the lessons. History isn't always pretty. It is often bloody and not politically correct. But then, re-writing the history books has always been a liberal undertaking and heaven help if a conservative wants to try to stick to the bloody (as in the true representation of wars) truth! Liberal apologists have even been trying to re-write 9/11 as being the fault of the US!

As for critical thinking, I can see that you failed that course in school.

Oops! My bad! They don't teach critical thinking any more in the modern school system! It's a very large part of the reason our students today do so badly in mathematics and science and why we are lagging behind in thise fields.

I consider it a badge of honor and a direct hit on them. They can't handle it, so they sweep it under the rug. Just like the Republicans always do. And don't worry, Romney's already lost this election when he outlined his plans to return to the policies of George W. Bush.

It really shows just how far our country's education system has fallen under liberal control.

Oh really! Didn't our public education system start failing 30 years ago under your patron saint Ronnie Raygun? I think it did. And you folks want to destroy public education so only those you deem qualified will get one. Tammy, are you really a women?

Oops! My bad! They don't teach critical thinking any more in the modern school system!

Are you better off now or 4 years ago? Of course not and this administration blames Busch and will continue to do so to stay in office. Let them take responsibility for their own stupid actions.

Let's see: with the Dow up nearly double from what it was in 2009, 4.25 million private sector jobs created, unemployment at 8.1%, bin Laden dead, GM and the rest of the auto industry back and booming, and a stabilizing housing market, hell yea I'm better than I was 4 years ago. While I do think that Obama and Biden ought to take responsibility for their many mistakes, I do believe they should also be given credit for their many accomplishments.

bob-1805084

GT: Sfcret - By political purposes, do you mean like standing on a AC carrier with a mission accomplished banner?

About the "Mission Accomplished" liberal crap, what is wrong with the CiC congratulating a crew, a crew that had the longest deployment since the Viet Nam War, a crew that had in fact accomplished their mission - executing flight operations in the most dangerous work environment in the world in a time of war?

Well, what is wrong with the President congratulating the military (which he did) and the intelligence for their efforts and then taking some credit for himself, which he rightly deserves for making the decision??? If he had failed, you righties would be all over it, so shut the hell up and give some credit where credit is due. And by the way, at least Obama didn't spike the football prematurely; we only got out of Iraq under OBAMA's administration.

Well, it does sound like he was saying that we were winning, even though we had another 7 years until the end of the war. And by the way, even if he didn't say that we won the war, don't you think it is mighty weird that he was under a banner saying "Mission Accomplished????"

Nope, "Mission Accomplished" was taken out of context, distorted and used for political capital - Nothing Less.

So was 9/11, which was used by the GOP in 2004 to scare America into voting for Bush again. Think about that; 3,000 lives lost in one day, and all to be used as political capital in 2004. Don't see you bitching about that. So shut up. Mission Accomplished was a premature celebration; you know it. Just admit it.

The weekend WSJ had a Hillaryous story about yet another failing socialist state that has run afoul of Margaret Thacher’s famous statement about socialism:

“The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money to spend.”

This is not another failed European socialist state, It is the state that gave us good, upstanding, proud, socialist’s like Barry Obama, Nasty DumbFux and Bev: Illinois.

Last year, Illinois raised its personal income tax rate by 60% and its corporate tax rate by 30% retro to January 1, 2011. And they still have a huge $2.7 billion state budget deficit in 2012. And the state comptroller estimates there are more than $9 billion in unpaid bills sitting in various state offices. So the Dem controlled legislature has passed a bill CUTTING Medicaid by $1.7 billion and doubling the state tax on cigarettes by $1 billion. The Dem governor has said he will sign the bill. And this doesn’t even begin to address the state’s biggest financial headache: the Illinois state pension fund has a shortfall between assets and liabilities of $83 billion. The Dem governor has proposed increasing the retirement age and increasing the workers share of retirement contributions.

Have Illinois Dem politicians been turned into evil Republican’s??

You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried!!!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama should have been there - out of respect. Instead he is on the campaign trail this weekend. The gaff machine Biden referred to the NATO Summit in Chicago as the "Summit in NATO", and then he referred to West Point as The Citadel. The first part of his speech was great - praising the graduates for signing up 4 years ago when military deaths were at their high - but then he went into campaign mode. There did not seem to be much applause for Obama - Biden's "accomplishments". At least USMA West Point got the VP - at the Naval Academy tomorrow the speaker is Robert Gates. Again - so sad that the President chooses to PLAY GOLF TODAY!!! MSNBC should be reporting on that (tee time 1:30 if anyone in the media cares).

Sounds like an excuse to me.

            What a buffoon and embarrassment.

Of course, if people make up their minds on which way to take this great country into the future is to base their decisions and judgements based on reading opinions and blogs from others of their own feelings, we are doomed to 4 more years of failure.

Please step back and unemotionally research the facts from their source and not believe either sides (Fox, MSNBC, Washington Post, NYT etc). They do not do "stories" reporting facts. All the "news" you read from both sides is distorted, biased, spun out of control crap to sell advertising.

How many troops do we have in Germany or Japan? How long ago did war with them end? When we pull out after a war we keep "house keeping" forces around to protect our interests and our embassy. Since the US Embassy in Baghdad is one of the largest in the world it will take quite a few troops to guard it.

People in the Defense Department are praising Obama's foreign policy and his use of the military. He was the one, for example, who ordered the Navy Seals to take out OBL. When the Commander in Chief orders something good military personell obey.

VP Biden is a recongnized expert on foreign policy. His sons have served and are serving. Instead of starting unnecessary wars this Administration is working for peace. They supported the Arab Spring movement in the Middle East. Dictators across the region have been deposed. Egypt, for example, has just had their first free election in decades.

Obama can't win with a conservative.

Remember when pirates held a captain and his crew hostage?

They were screaming that the president was weak. The president was being controlled by pirates.

The president had the pirates shot and killed, just like conservatives demanded.

The very next thing out of the conservatives' mouths was, "The president killed a teenager!"

How sad is it that, when the president agrees with a conservative, the conservative immediately switches their opinion.

How many "I'm for it until Obama is then I'm against it." moments have we had?

            Here's a few...

Dream Act, healthcare mandate, bail out, Olympic bid, Planned Parenthood.

I bet if the president said he was against abortion, every conservative in the country would scream about the president taking away the right to choose.

Can't we just get along? In 1958 my grandpa told me the difference between democrats and republicans.

"Both parties are full of God fearing good Americans" he said. "The difference is a democrats want to feed all poor men a fish a day. The republicans want to teach poor men how to fish."

And that hasn't changed in five decades.

            3rd Party,

Sure … that is why the Dems want funds to train/retrain displaced workers and the Republicans won’t fund these programs.

Yep, the Republicans want to teach them … not.

I'm from the government and I am here to help. (RUN FROM THIS )

The version I got was Dems want to BORROW money from China to pay for this program and reps said no let's cut spending to pay for it.

Don't you wish you had an unlimited credit card to act like the government?

            3rd Party,

It is not Government training, it is subsisted training done by the private sector.

So in your mind training someone a new trade so they can find work is not the same as teaching them to fish.

Romney said “Any spending cuts should come down the road, after the economy has improved.” "Well because, if you take a trillion dollars for instance, out of the first year of the federal budget, that would shrink GDP over 5 percent.” So I'm not going to do that.

China only holds 12% of our National debt. Our unions hold more of our National debt than any foreign country.

            Dennis,

How are you this fine Saturday, fine I hope. As for your post at 9.1, about democrats wanting money for job training programs. According to a GAO report there are currently 47 job training programs through 9 different agencies, and 18 Billion dollars being spent. According to Politifact quoting GAO Report, "little is know about the effectiveness of Employment & training programs because only 5 reported conducting an impact study and about half of all remaining programs have not had a performance review of any kind".

Before throwing more money into job training programs, don't you think we would be better served to consolidate programs, cut spending on overhead who are suppose to be running these programs and audit to see if Federal Job Training programs are really working and taxpayer money is being spent wisely. You know I keep harping on the requirement to review federal agencies and to consolidate and cut waste and fraud. In stead Congress and the WH (post parties) just keep asking for more money for more programs.

            Hi Sarge,

It's hard to disagree with commonsense but we are talking about the Government that is run by two dysfunctional Parties.

How I see your proposal progressing:

            1) The House will establish a commission to study the programs and make recommendations and will be funded with $10 million.

            2) The Senate will establish a commission to study the programs and make recommendations and will be funded with $10 million.

            3) They will establish a joint body to evaluate the findings and review the recommendations. Then they will each write their own bill.

            4) The Congress session will end and a new Congress will start all over or they will just let it die like most other studies.

Anyhow my point to 3rd Party was only that training/retraining has a place and is not always a waste of time, effort or money.

the majority of graduates do their 5 year active commitment then leave the army for civilian life. It is no secret that the military will need to trim down beginning with the Afghan wind down, so yeah, people are going to get riffed. The same thing happened in the early 90's. Audrey,

I retired after 20 years and we (retirees) lose some type of benefits almost every year. You know that this White House wants to end tri-care as we know it. They want the retirees on Obama care. I have that link if you want it, but you can also Google it. When I first came in, I was told my health care would be free for 20 years of service. I honestly don't mind paying what I'm paying now, but for this White House threaten to veto what Congress passes by not touching our health benefits it wrong. I don't want Obama care and I hope the SCOTUS rules that it's garbage.

As for retirement, Congress wants to make retirement a 401K type retirement. If you retire at 20yrs, you won't see your retirement until you're 65. So basically when an officer retires at around 45 or so, they have 20yrs that they won't see their retirement and at 45 have to start over on looking for employment without their retirement to help them through.

Wow - a little sensitive are we (addressed to several of the above)? First off - I said President Obama should be there, because I believe the President should speak at all of the military academy graduations every year. He is the Commander-in-Chief every day - not on a rotating basis. The graduations are spaced out - simply out of respect he should do it. If that belief automatically makes me a Republican, then I don't know if that says more about Democrats or Republicans.

SeekingSanity - the gaffs were real (check the video of the entire speech, not just MSNBC's reporting). The President is absolutely playing golf today - just as he did earlier this week with President Clinton. Governor Romney is also campaigning today - the thought that both of their weekends are better spent panning for votes from verterans makes me sick. Why am I attacked as a "stupid Republican" just because I think the graduates of West Point and USNA deserve more respect?

Meanwhile back at the treasury his tax cheat pal finds more ways to steal these womens' childrens future.

DCDevo - the gaffes WERE not there. And, you are wrong - the President is NOT playing today.

It is not the President's decision to make as to who will address each group. As someone said earlier, it is on a rotating basis each year. It is not a show of disrespect for this President NOT to be addressing either group. It is tradition and is set by the schools.

Did you down Bush each year he didn't address both?

3rdpartyadvocate - you do NOT want to go there you blithering idiot. The Democrats have stood up for women even as the GOP has taken every chance to tear us down. You are either clueless or hate women - or both!

DC: I can't respond specifically to your points as I simply don't know. I do know this however, President Obama along with the First Lady and the Bidens have gone out of their way to lend support to America's veterans.

I don't presume to know your politics but I am so tired of the Right wrapping themselves up in the flag and acting as if Conservatives and only Conservatives support and fight for their country. This has been a common theme starting in the postt WWII era. Oddly, it this same crowd in the 1930s that didn't want to spend $100 to arm a rowboat with a machine gun and were more than happy to sell Britain down the river in their time of need.

I don't have the time to list them all here but if you look at our Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, I can promise you that it is actually Democrats who have served our military with distinction. The Right is awfully good at talking tough but the reality is that way too many of them are just Chicken Hawks like Dick Cheney and George Bush.

That why we have vets having their home foreclosed while overseas. Having military families on food stamps while fighting for your country is a disgrace.

The Dems and other politicians would rather throw money at illegals in hopes of getting their votes if they can do without photo ID's. At the same time Gore and Dems. did everything in their power to stop the military from casting their votes. Obama has the same line of thought so forget about Biden and his pride in the USA military.

Ted Patrick.......That is not the President's schedule for today. Not sure sure where you got it, but it is not factual at least not for today, May 26th 2012. There is no public schedule set for today.

11:30 am Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano join Press Secretary Robert Gibbs in a press briefing to discuss their efforts to cut costs, root out waste, and make government more efficient and effective.

Robert Gibbs is no longer Press Secretary, he left that position in January 2011, he was succeeded by Jay Carney.

Ooops! go peddled your lies over at Fox entertainment and stop trying to undermine your President. You should be ashamed, but I know you wont your kind rely on ignorance and hatred to spread your message.

No surprise to see Joe Biden continuing to promote the Obama Administration taking credit for what the USA and many other nations worked hard and sacrificed to achieve during the years before the administration came to power.

"…the United States and China... 'don't always see eye' "---I am looking for the laugh track. Obviously the China of the 1880s to the Communist Revolution of 1949 was generally hostile, and more obviously the China of the communist era has been a top-echelon enemy to the USA.

'America will win whenever and wherever the playing field is level'---I certainly hope that West Point is not teaching our nation's future battle-strategists to seize the flatlands and shoot uphill.

'...if you harm America, we will follow you to the end of the earth,'---This is the very same message which the Democratic Party loudly condemned for seven years. They now wish to claim it is their own progressive, futuristic strategy for solving the world's problems.

Meanwhile: A huge fire rages in New Mexico, tropical storms are threatening both coasts, families are losing their houses and both Iran and Russia public speak of their nuclear missile programs. When will the Obama Administration wake-up?

Next week: The Obama Administration will continue to fiddle for votes as both natural and economic disasters destroy the lives of the people.

China isn't the enemy, Russia is. And you're supposed to be promoting nuclear war in Iran so the oil will travel freely through their water ways.

Did you misread the daily talking points from Limbaugh?

You better step in line or be forced to follow Colin Powell out the back door of the GOP. Go grab your propaganda pamphlet and read up. Make sure its current because it changes every three hours now that Mitt has sped it up.

I always had respect for Joe Biden until I read this quote from him that the 9/11 generation "will be America's greatest". What an outrageous, uninformed, and off-the-mark statement. Anybody who's out in the world dealing with the young work force of today knows that analysis couldn't be more wrong. From what I see, generally speaking, the 9/11 generation is the most pathetic generation produced by America so far. Get your head out of the sand Biden. Or stop lying. You've lost me forever.

With the occasional gaffs from #2 in this Administration they look great compared to the huge number of gaffs from #1 in the last Administration. Bush couldn't even make a complete sentence without messing up. He said that Queen Elizabeth II was around in 1776 and called the President of Russia Pootie Poot Poot. President Putin was very polite and diplomatic but obviously thought his pal Georgie was a bit daft and childish using such a term. Where was the respect?

snopes.com said the following is true:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a Sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. ...Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here'. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and Grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

SENATOR BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, MARCH 2006

The above quote consists of two excerpts from a long speech delivered by Barack Obama during a Senate debate over raising the national debt limit on March 16, 2006. Along with his entire party, Senator Obama voted against the increase, which passed nonetheless with overwhelming Republican support.

Obama says he regrets having taken that stand. "He realizes now," explained White House spokesman Jay Carney in a statement to the press on April 11, 2011, "that raising the debt ceiling is so important to the health of this economy and the global economy that it is not a vote that, even when you are protesting an administration's policies, you can play around with."

Your right about one thing, Mr. President.....the country deserves better but we certainly did not get it with you, President Flip-Flopper

Now you might notice that the Republicans back in 2006 supported increasing the debt limit whereas they oppose it now. So what is going on.........? The answer is that both parties work exactly the same----oppose anything the other party wants. So dems get off your high horse and look at your own droppings as well

Notice that the White House said:

"...that raising the debt ceiling is so important to the health of this economy and the global economy that it is not a vote that, even when you are protesting an administration's policies, you can play around with."

WHAT......are they saying that by not voting for the debt increase in 2006 that they did not care a damn about the US and World economy. Of course they are which means they are not any damn better than the republicans by a long shot.

So get your head out of the proverbial dark spot and see the reality of politics.

Jack, does getting a BS at the University of San Francisco amke me uneducated? Maybe, maybe not.

Also, I cannot stand FOX news. FOX is as biased and stupid as all the other news outlets; ABC, NBC, CNN, MCNBC, etc, etc. and that is why I get me news from Germany.

To really set you off....Obama and Biden are a pair of morons and bush wasn't a whole lot better.

By only being able to blame Fox News all the time, are you admitting that the other news networks are liberal douchebags who cater to the left? Seems strange that you constantly pinpoint only one network.

Perhaps the others are more centered. I believe MSNBC is the only one as left as FOX is right.

However, FOX has the least informed viewers.

Call it another Fox News fail. People who are not exposed to any news know more
about domestic and international affairs than those who get their information
from Fox News, according to a phone poll conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson
                              University.

In general, cable news viewers, including those who watched MSNBC and CNN, could
correctly answer fewer questions about domestic and international events than
those who got their news elsewhere—including Comedy Central.

Overall, the survey found that Fox was the least
informative news outlet, while NPR and Sunday morning political talk shows were
                              the most. http://www.truthdig.com/eartotheground/item/survey_says_fox_news_viewers_least_informed_20120523/

Hope that clarifies it for you.

Sounds like another survey for Politifact to debunk.

So we have three Pew studies that superficially rank Fox viewers low on the well-informed list, but in several of the surveys, Fox isn't the lowest, and other general-interest media outlets -- such as network news shows, network morning shows and even the other cable news networks -- often score similarly low. Meanwhile, particular Fox shows -- such as The O'Reilly Factor and Sean Hannity's show -- actually score consistently well, occasionally even outpacing Stewart's own audience.

Meanwhile, the other set of knowledge surveys, from worldpublicopinion.org, offer mixed support for Stewart. The 2003 survey strikes us as pretty solid, but the 2010 survey has been critiqued for its methodology.

The way Stewart phrased the comment, it's not enough to show a sliver of evidence that Fox News' audience is ill-informed. The evidence needs to support the view that the data shows they are "consistently" misinformed -- a term he used not once but three times. It's simply not true that "every poll" shows that result. So we rate his claim False.

Seems his speech was at least more honest than the President's at the AF academy when The President claimed the U.S. was more respected and the military was stronger in spite of planned cuts to the budget. It's clear however the VP like his boss, doesn't understand economics. We can't successfully compete when China's workers are happy to work for $60 a week, the same is true of trade with Bangladesh, Egypt, etc. We can compete by raising import taxes and producing products ourselves although they would be more expensive than imported. Personally I would rather pay more for made in USA products than pay for unemployment benefits for unemployed US citizens
