Less than six months before November’s presidential election, President Obama enjoys a sizable lead over Mitt Romney among Latino voters, according to a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll of Latino respondents.
The challenge for the Obama campaign, however, will be turning out these voters, who aren’t as interested in the election as all other Americans are.

Larry Downing / Reuters
President Barack Obama speaks at a news conference after the 2012 NATO Summit May 21 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
In this survey, Obama holds a 34-point lead over Romney among registered Latino voters, 61 to 27 percent. In 2008, according to the exit polls, Obama defeated McCain among this key voting bloc, 67 to 31 percent.
In addition, Obama’s approval rating among all Latino adults stands at 61 percent (compared with 48 percent of all Americans in the new NBC/WSJ poll), and approval of his handling of the economy is at 54 percent (versus 43 percent overall).
Meanwhile, Romney is struggling with Latinos, the poll shows. Just 26 percent view him positively, while 35 percent see him in a negative light. By comparison, Obama’s positive/negative score among Latinos is 58/23 percent.
(Click here for a PDF of this NBC/WSJ/Telemundo poll.)
What’s more, this demographic group is more optimistic about the economy and the nation’s direction than the general population. Forty percent of Latinos believe the country is headed in the right direction (versus 33 percent of all Americans in the NBC/WSJ poll), and 46 percent of them say what they’ve read and heard recently makes them feel more optimistic about the economy (versus 42 percent).
But here’s a troubling sign for the Obama campaign: Latinos aren’t as excited about the upcoming election. A combined 68 percent of Latino voters say they are highly interested in the upcoming election (registering an “8”,”9”, or “10” on a 10-point scale). That’s compared with 81 percent of all voters who express high interest.
This NBC/WSJ/Telemundo survey -- an oversample from the just-released NBC/WSJ poll -- was conducted May 16-21 of 300 adults who identified themselves as coming from a Latino or Spanish-speaking background. That sample includes 119 interviews that were conducted in Spanish.
The overall margin of error for this survey is plus-minus 5.7 percentage points. The margin of error for the 188 registered Latino voters survey is plus-minus 7.2 percentage points.

The Obama administration has addressed immigration reform with the following multistep plan.
1 - Changed the term "illegal aliens" to "undocumented immigrants"
2 - Granted Aunt Zeituni Onyango citizenship, after she ignored a judge's order to leave the country
3 - Granted Uncle Onyango Obama a get-out-of-jail free card, which was used to be released from being held by ICE, even though he is in violation of a deportation order from 1992.
4 - Issued a presidential order which granted backdoor amnesty to as many as 300,000 illegal aliens.
5 - Filed lawsuits against every state attempting to legally address the illegal alien issue
6 - Created and proliferated a lie that they are deporting more illegal aliens that any other administration
7- Made another empty promise of immigration reform to pander to Hispanics and Latinos.
Pandering?
Hilarious. You don't have to pander to folks who are going to vote for you anyway.
You're just pissed off because states like Arizona have pissed off Latinos so much that by 2016, that state will vote democratic. And Texas will follow.
Yep, they are now counting "turn-arounds" as deportees. Lies, lies, and more lies
Obama has deported more illegal immigrants in 3 years than George Bush deported in 8 years.
Them's the facts, folks.
So...you're lying, lying, lying.
Hilarious.
Buck - who's lying?

NH_Shellback compares the aggregate of eight years to three and doesn't adjust for the Great Recession. Next time you spew numbers, how spewing about something meaningful?
I haven't checked but these numbers seem a little suspect. And I know Obama has stepped up border security immensely. But you do have to remember Bushs fuzzy numbers. I don't believe Bush would have quietly deported very many when there was this big howling noise from their party to deport them. They would have been yelling it from the roof tops. He should have taken care of the problem since he was from a border state and should have known first hand what was going on. But again he didn't. He simply let many, many more in in the 8 years he residing in the White HOuse and his vacation homes.
DHS counts 2 statistics, removals and returns. Removals are the compulsory and confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States based on an order of removal. Returns are the confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States not based on an order of removal. Prior to 2011 only Removals were referred to as "Deportations".
In 2011 the Obama administration started counting both Removals and Returns as Removals (aka Deportations). According to President Obama, who was quoted on 9/28/2011 about 2011 deporation statistics during an online discussion aimed at Hispanic voters, "The statistics are a little deceptive,". Mr. Obama explained that Border Patrol agents are arresting more people as they cross into the country illegally. Those people are quickly sent back to their countries, but are counted as deported illegal immigrants. What Mr. Obama describes what the Border Patrol is doing is counting "Returns" as "Removals".
If we count all Removals and Returns as Deportions like the Obama administration did starting in FY2011, you will find by totaling annual numbers for both Removals and Returns
1 the number of illegals deported in FY2011 was the lowest since 1971.
Total Removals & Returns for 2011 = 396,906
Total Removals & Returns for 1971 = 390,339
2 5x more illegals were deported during the Bush Administration than has been during the Obama Administration. I will take Bush for 10.2 million over Obama's 1.9 million
Fiscal Year numbers adjusted for Administration (i.e. Bush #'s are 3/4 of 2001, all of 2002 - 2008, and 1/4 of 2009. Obama #'s are 3/4 of 2009, all of 2010 & 2011. NOTE 1/4 of 2001 #'s are attributed to the Clinton Administration)

Citizen K-2113048
Even if we don't give other administrations the benefit of using Mr Obama's new math in counting deportations, the Bush administration deported 2x more illegals than the Obama administration has. What was that you were spewing?
for obamas "fuzzy numbers" see TWO SIX SEVEN!
NH Shellback is playing with numbers and word meanings, which is so damn transparent we can just call bullsh*t right now.
Anyone who actually does the research will find out in less than five minutes that according to the Department of Homeland Security, since 2009 the annual average number of deportations has approached 400,000, double the annual average during President George W. Bush’s first term.
Shellack's just making crap up. Hilarious.
Buck - My source is the DHS and is posted above. If you count both removals and returns as "deportations", as the Obama administration started in 2011, then the 10.2 million "deported" by the Bush admiistration is 5X MORE than the 2.0 million "deported" by the Obama administration. If you only count "removals" as "deportations", as done prior to 2011, then the 2.1 million "deported" by the Bush admiistration is 2X MORE than the 1.1 million "deported" by the Obama administration.
Refute me and the sources I have provide with facts and sources, not hot air.
Shell, are you insinuating that we are being misled by the current Administration?
NH Shellback, no offense, and actually I enjoy your posts.
But...and it's a big but...
No matter what we call them, removals, deportations, or returns, more illegal immigrants have been deported or denied entrance, or otherwise sent away, during Barack Obama's administration than George W. Bush's administration.
Obama's simply been more vigil and pro-active about this than Bush was during his time in office.
Cheers.
Buck - Even with Obama's "new math" 2 million (Obama) can be NOT BE MORE than 10 million (Bush)? Please cite your source for your wild ass claims.
Jongone - even Mr Obama admited they were "cooking the books".
President Obama said statistics that show his administration is on track to deport more illegal immigrants than the Bush administration are misleading.
“The statistics are a little deceptive,” in an online discussion aimed at Hispanic voters.
Obama explained that enhanced border security has led to Border Patrol agents arresting more people as they cross into the country illegally. Those people are quickly sent back to their countries, but are counted as deported illegal immigrants.
Shell, catch release and count as deported again. During the same online interview he took the time to dangle the “pathway to citizenship” carrot and insinuated that if it did not pass it would be due to the Republican-controlled house. No wonder Obama has the Latino vote locked up.

NH Shellback,
Wild ass claims? Look pal, they're not my claims, they're ICE's claims.
www.ice.gov/removal-statistics/
These numbers include both removals and returns.
2004: 175,00
2005: 180,00
2006: 208,000
2007: 291,000
2008: 369,000
2009: 390,000
2010: 393,000
2011: 397,000
I guess ICE is spewing these wild ass claims. You bet.
It took me less than 5 minutes to find the information.
Buck, you know that the Gov. plays with numbers!? When did the Gov. start differentiating between “removals” & “returns”? Shell does some good work and you should take the time to look at the tables that Shell has found. Some of this info. can be difficult to link to.
Ponder this DHS definition: “Returns are the confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States not based on an order of removal.” What the he!! does that mean? I have several theories.
Here is a table from DHS (they spew wild ass claims just like ICE) it is only current through 2010 but it gives a great historical perspective. Take the time to put it to a graph and see if the trend is your friend.
www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/yearbook/2010/table36.xls
Buck, I looked at the FY2007 - FY2012 statistics you posted by ICE at www.ice.gov/doclib/about/offices/ero/pdf/ero-removals1.pdf and they are different then those posted by DHS at
Although from your source at www.ice.gov/removal-statistics/ , I could not locate the FY2004 through FY2006 numbers you posted, nor an numbers for the FY2001 - FY2003 of the Bush administration.
Be glad to compare things and discuss your claims with the complete data. Do you have a reference to the FY2004-2006 numbers you posted? and the FY2001 - FY2003 numbers?

Shell, I had the same problem I could only find data through FY2007 from Buck’s ICE link. From table 36 it looks like the high mark was the year 2000 at 1.8mil deported and that is about 2x more than anything that Obama may claim. All facts aside I do not understand how Obama’s mythical record high deportation numbers helps him with the Latino vote?
When one talks out of both sides of one face they shall be known as a politician.
http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/184393-obama-calls-for-pathway-to-citizenship-in-online-talk
NH, Shellback,
Well, I too looked at the DHS link and THEY ARE DIFFERENT form ICE's.
So at least we agree on that.
As for removals and returns, I think we already discussed that, though the table I found has ICE stating the numbers are totals for "returns and removals."
I'll keep looking, but I have to admit, I'm getting tired of the inconsistencies of ICE and DHS.
At least you and I aren't afraid to go do the research. Ha.
I'll keep looking!
NH Shellback,
Check out these graphs from the Pew Research Center. One is for removals and returns, one is only for removals. One is reported from ICE, the other from DHS.
http://www.pewhispanic.org/2011/12/28/appendix-a-deportations-reported-by-ice/
http://www.pewhispanic.org/2011/12/28/ii-recent-trends-in-u-s-immigration-enforcement/
Buck, I agree with you on the inconsistencies. You would think with all the money spent by our government that could at least agree on a standard way to count withing a single department.
You do realize that the chart you cited from DHS is the same removal data as I have posted in post #340.1, and that both the DHS and the ICE data you posted disprove the statement that "Obama has deported more illegal immigrants in 3 years than George Bush deported in 8 years."
Buck, Although the data appears to support statements that under the Obama administation more illegals have been deported annually then during the Bush admistration.
NH Shellback,
My apologies for stating that Obama deported more illegal immigrants in 3 years than Bush did in 8 years.
That was obviously wrong. Very wrong.
And yes, I do see that the two charts from DHS are the same ones.
Happy Memorial Day.
You too Buck.

SDskydiver, why don't you go make a jump with no chute. Your rants or boring and border on the verge of stupidity, no come to think of it, they are stupid!
OK!
that was fun. now read 267 or i shall mock you, by saying the word "mock" relentlessly.
I would take California ahead of just about every state in the union, were I Mexico. It has two massive economic engines in Silicon Valley and Hollywood, three ports, one of the youngest and most well-educated populations in the country, and a GDP bigger than that of most countries.
You want to look for states to avoid, try Mississippi and West Virginia.
Anyone stupid enough to vote Republican in November deserves to be fired or laid off in December. You will NOT have balanced the budget and can kiss any unemployment help goodbye. Latinos are not as stupid as whites would like to think they are. Merry Xmas!
I've been waiting four years for Obama to present a balanced budget amendment , can't vote for him, too liberal, gay and weak.
Demonic crates are doomed in 2012, Obama won't win!
Like this any big surprise!!
He has been pushing for blanket citizenship for all those illegals for 4 years now, because he would rather give citizenship to thugs and criminals that make up 90% of the illegals than make them do it the same way ALL OTHER RACES have to do, or did to be citizen.
That is proof that he has NO RESPECT for any other race EXCEPT if your skin is a certain color.
Now the Democrats are demonizing republicans with Hispanics. Anyone heard one comment regarding that? What do they say. We will deport you? Right as if a republican would ever think of deporting a possible vote. Seriously what has any Democrat said about a republican regarding Hispanics. We are for you and they aren't? How does one say that. Isn't it more we want you educated, we want you to succeed. We want you to become responsible, accountable citizens of the US? That doesn' t sit well with the repubicans. Actually I haven't heard either party say that enough but if you think of the overriding principles the Dems have with Obama, they have this market cornered. And if the blue collared men would wake up and smell their coffee and their future, they would flock to Obama too regardless of what color he is. The repubicans are now the party of the rich the whole 1% of them. That leaves 99 with no place to go except to Obama. Duh! Except the ones who refuse to think and admit what they see and hear.
How long do you think that it will take before the polls reflect your 1% vs. 99% theory? Is it true that Obama has deported more unauthorized immigrants than any other President in history? Do Democrats/Obama consider those deported as “a possible vote”?
obama loves latinos. for more on this. 267.
I would suspect that at least 30% of these "latinos" are illegals or prison inmates or service worker unions which is a little of both. You latinos who dig voting for this guy will be dumped in a nano second when all of us citizen workers cannot pay your meal ticket, free education and health bills anymore. The fact that so many "latinos" love whatisname is predictable, they both want to destroy the country that made life cushy for them, while we pay their way by obeying the law, showing up for work, and paying the taxes for trips to Hawaii, golf, and paybacks to the unions.
Read article and found some interviews were done in Spanish, how can a person vote or have any input if you can't even speak English?
Is this more of the Demonic crates under handed ploy to have illegal criminals voting without ID?
Mitt is a Mexican and they don't want him either! lol!!!
Go ahead Republicans start youe name calling because that's all you do on this Blog!!! lol!!
for more on this, see TWO SIX SEVEN. (also, you spelled "youe" wrong, next time try "your".
for more on name calling.........lol. you already know dont you?

The Latinos have ears to hear, and all they hear from conservatives is, bigotry and class warfare.
irony? i think it is!
not any more pal. not since 267. 267 is a way of life. you cannot deny 267, therefore you cannot deny me.
welcome to america, you are my brother.
find out the buzz about 267. hurry. or i will mock you yet again.
TWO SIX SEVEN!!!!!!
Vote Obama out in Nov., if you have a brain.
Romney and sons doing their spanish are so obviously pandering. Meanwhile Obama's Yes-We-Can, albeit stolen from Cesar Chavez's Si-Se-Puede, was masterful.
You think that's bad. You should have seen Bloomburg doing a press conference on the hurricane, in what he felt was speaking spanish. I was cringing.
He started off with "Hola Amigos". lol, what's he learn from Dora the Explorer?
how many of the " jobs Created ", claimed by Bain and Romney were the people who were fired and then hired back without their pensions and at a lower rate of pay ??? More people should be asking Romney to clarify this , because this is NOT job creation , '' it's job theft ''!!!! but certainly not one of these people can be included as a single job created , the jobs were there , but , the people were just cheated so Bain could have experienced people at a lower rate. Is this the kind of president we want '' A BULLY AND A CROOK ??? Oh and all these agencies Romney claims he'd crush as president , how many people will that put out of work ??? and how is he going to help them reeducate and get back into good jobs ? 20,000 temporary jobs on a pipeline that will be built with no regulation , and after two years , employ about a 100, is a bandaid and a joke !!! all it will do is help the health care industry with the millions of sick people that will come fater the pipes leak!!
slow down there tonto, we may have a problem. 267.
see 267.
It is a lie for romney the '' CLOSET POLYGAMIST BISHOP '' to say his business is saving jobs, it is not. His business is to find business that , with what his company can provide , can be sold for a profit. Whether jobs are lost , or created , is completely irrelevant to his AGENDA !!!!!
ruh roh. for more on lies....do i really have to say it?
TWO SIX SEVEN!
Romney's Mormon faith , and Bain , does matter !!!!! ; Let's just put it this way--what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
If the GOPTP insists on discussing Rev Wright, and continue to imply President Obama is a "secret Muslim", which is an oxymoron in the first place, then Romney's Mormon faith is equally fair game. Will Mitt Romney take his Oath of Office on the Bible or the Book of Mormon is as fair a question as when Conservatives suggested President-elect Obama would use the Koran.
If the GOPTP insists on discussing President Obama's experience as a community organizer (before he went to law school) and his experience as a lawyer, law professor and author, then Romney's experience as a Bain Capital head, Gov of Massachusetts, and "saving" the Olympics with a taxpayer-funded "bailout" are fair game. Romney claims he created 100,000 jobs at Bain yet that number keeps being revised downward; to take credit for the jobs he created, it is also fair game to reveal to the public his record of job destruction as well.
Why isn't it fair game for Romney's business record to be criticized ???? ; It was OK for the Republicans to smear all community organizers , in general , just to get at Obama in 2008. It looks like they'll be repeating that attack on that same general group again -- a group that includes Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi. Face it, if either King or Gandhi were alive today, both men would be viciously attacked as "agitators" by Romney and his stooges if he thought he could get more votes from bigots !!!!!!!!!!!!!
How is this a surprise? Illegals like free handouts. Obama is all about handouts. He is most likely going to give all the illegals amnesty. You would be a dumb ass if your were illegal and you didn't vote for that loser. What ever happened to the Mexicans with work ethic? They are all turning into the 16 to 25 year olds that feel they are entitled to everything for nothing.
I cannot believe that people as dumb as you vote, but then Dubyah was elected twice, wasn't he?
So should we compound our mistake and re-elect Obama?
You are on the right track. Romney is about free enterprise. Obama is about free stuff. Many people in this country, regardless of race, will vote for the guy who they think will give them the most free things and services. Not quite what the Founding Fathers envisioned, is it?
Latinos also vote in the power for Mexico. Look at how great that country is, one of the worst poor/rich gaps in the world (far worse than the US)
Obama had their support in 2008,what good did it do them, more promises and NADA,when Obama had a super Majority in congress and the Senate for 2 years and NADA. Latinos are not as stupid as the Democrats think when promises are made and NADA is delivered.
Hispanics just want more and more of our wealth and prosperity and they will vote in whoever promises them the most of our wealth.
America....is not the Beautiful....anymore.....how sad!!!
Move. You can say "Iran The Beautiful"
