Obama leads big with Latinos

Less than six months before November’s presidential election, President Obama enjoys a sizable lead over Mitt Romney among Latino voters, according to a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll of Latino respondents.

The challenge for the Obama campaign, however, will be turning out these voters, who aren’t as interested in the election as all other Americans are.

Larry Downing / Reuters

President Barack Obama speaks at a news conference after the 2012 NATO Summit May 21 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

In this survey, Obama holds a 34-point lead over Romney among registered Latino voters, 61 to 27 percent. In 2008, according to the exit polls, Obama defeated McCain among this key voting bloc, 67 to 31 percent.

In addition, Obama’s approval rating among all Latino adults stands at 61 percent (compared with 48 percent of all Americans in the new NBC/WSJ poll), and approval of his handling of the economy is at 54 percent (versus 43 percent overall).

Meanwhile, Romney is struggling with Latinos, the poll shows. Just 26 percent view him positively, while 35 percent see him in a negative light. By comparison, Obama’s positive/negative score among Latinos is 58/23 percent.

(Click here for a PDF of this NBC/WSJ/Telemundo poll.)

What’s more, this demographic group is more optimistic about the economy and the nation’s direction than the general population. Forty percent of Latinos believe the country is headed in the right direction (versus 33 percent of all Americans in the NBC/WSJ poll), and 46 percent of them say what they’ve read and heard recently makes them feel more optimistic about the economy (versus 42 percent).

But here’s a troubling sign for the Obama campaign: Latinos aren’t as excited about the upcoming election. A combined 68 percent of Latino voters say they are highly interested in the upcoming election (registering an “8”,”9”, or “10” on a 10-point scale). That’s compared with 81 percent of all voters who express high interest.

This NBC/WSJ/Telemundo survey -- an oversample from the just-released NBC/WSJ poll -- was conducted May 16-21 of 300 adults who identified themselves as coming from a Latino or Spanish-speaking background. That sample includes 119 interviews that were conducted in Spanish.

The overall margin of error for this survey is plus-minus 5.7 percentage points. The margin of error for the 188 registered Latino voters survey is plus-minus 7.2 percentage points.

Everyone will eventually wake up: Best Explanation of Sharing the Wealth

It doesn't matter what color, race or creed.

ALL I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS IS WOW!!!

RECENT VIRGINIA CHURCH SERVICE - STIMULUS SERMON

I would love to give the Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia three cheers. This guy is obviously a leader. Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is... It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to get into God's Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will, to the 47th chapter of Genesis. We'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go through verse 27.

Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us? ... (reading) .... Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray. So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt, and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock - their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey - to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through the end of that year. But the famine wasn't over, was it? So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.

What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes... That the only reason government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?

Yes. But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen . And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn't end up giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one.

We see the same thing happening today - the government today wants to "share the wealth" once again, to take it from us and redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah? A savior? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves, "You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"? Well, I tell you this - I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. OBAMA IS NO MESSIAH! No, brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh. Bow with me in prayer, if you will..

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day..."

And Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government. In God We Trust...

How many are illegals?

I noticed that the article headline did not read "Obama leads big with LEGAL Latino Voters". THAT is what will be important, not how many illegal immigrants like Obama. The Latinos surveyed probably did not ask the respondents if they were legal citizens before taking their responses. And that same fact is probably why the big difference in Latinos who plan to vote versus other Americans who plan to vote.

There must be a ton of Latinos that are Homosexual. What else could account for Obama's Surge in the polls of Latinos other than believers in Homosexual marriage?

If these Latinos are Catholic they absolutely will NOT support Obama. 60 million American Catholics stand behind the Church's demand for Religious Freedom....as they are being denied by Obama's Heathcare provision for abortion. Another example of the left-wing, socialist media spewing lies without accurately reporting the news.

drdordo: Where's you get that narrow backwards notion!? Seriously now.

I know some hispanic Catholics that voted him in last year and will do so again since they're volunteering for his campaign yet again. Its not accurate and its not fair to label things but furthermore, it make you look like a ninny on top of the inaccuracies of your statement.

95 percent of U.S. Catholics disagree with the Church's position of birth control; in fact they ignore the Church's teaching on that issue.

So much for religious freedom...

If the Catholic vote is in lockstep the church's doctrines, why do so many Catholics use birth control? Why are the numbers of faithful dropping? Obama's Healthcare Act does not require abortions, only that all employers offer their employees insurance. The Catholic church is suing the government because they don't want to provide insurance for their employees. It is a cost issue. The old pedophiles of the church could care less about morals...just follow the vast money.

Anyone that does NOT suffer from short term memory loss supports Obama, doesnt matter what nationality they are, if they remember when Bush took us to war over some phoney-baloney Weapons of Mass Destruction lie and crash our economy (it does NOT take 4 years to crash an economy of a country -HELLO!) and the treason with the Valerie Plame issue amongst many, many other attorocities support the Dems.

BTW, Bush sucked because he acted like a Democrat, thinking government was the fix. You all should love him.

Hispanics are sort of like the Greek voters. They buy the bs from lying politicians who say they're going to take care of them, not to worry.

The country can't deliver on these bogus promises.

When I said "imagine that" I was referring to the poll itself. Not Latino voters. You hear of all of these polls for this or that. They tell you the outcome. But what poll? There are results from polls in my state but I was never polled. Nobody I know was polled. They'll poll a bunch of people outside of Starbucks and give the results as "More people prefer coffee over Slurpee's." They'll poll the people coming out of 7-11 and give the opposite result. In the end it means nothing.

BTW This is one of the reasons they like him

WTHR, the NBC affiliate in Indianapolis, recently reported about how millions of
illegal aliens are getting billions of dollars in U.S. tax refunds without
having paid a dime in income taxes.

The story instantly went viral because it’s true. You won’t believe what illegals
are getting away with, and our government is enabling them.

      Here’s how it works.
Illegal immigrants cannot qualify for legitimate Social Security numbers, which
would entitle them to work legally in the U.S. and file income tax returns, but
the Internal Revenue Service allows them to apply for nine-digit individual
taxpayer identification numbers, or ITINs, which also are used to file federal
      income tax returns.

In addition, a provision in the tax code permits illegals to claim “additional
      child tax credits,”
which grant families $1,000 per “dependent
child. Roughly three-quarters of tax returns filed by illegals include these
ACTCs. With the ITIN, illegals are able to get tax credits and refunds for
nephews, nieces and other family members who never have touched U.S. soil.

For example, an illegal immigrant who makes $13,000 a year not only pays no taxes
but also can receive a refund of $5,000 by simply filling in five ACTCs. One
illegal used a fake address and said four illegal aliens lived there with 20
relatives as dependents, for a grand total tax refund of $29,000!

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, in the 2010 tax year alone, more than 3
million returns were filed with ITINs. About 2.3 million of them paid no federal
income taxes and also collected a cumulative $4 billion from the Treasury in
      tax refunds for claiming ACTCs.

No doubt that President Obama is after the Hispanic Vote. I have heard it said by left and right wing pundits that in order to win the POTUS in this election that the winner will have to garner 60% of the Hispanic vote.

It was the Republican candidates and the GOP that "destroyed" their opportunity with the Hispanic voters, and most particularly with regard to Mexican American voters. In order to become the GOP/Republican nominee each GOP contender had to be "a little more hateful toward Hispanics, in general than their fellow contenders, in order to please the Teaparty and the racist element of the GOP.

All Obama did was generally observe how the GOP candidates pandered to the Teaparty and the racists.

Romney is always good at taking "now positions re: issues and "having changes of heart." However, not even Romney with all of the white Republicans behind him "can unsay the terrible things that he said about just Mexican Americans in particular."

Romney will not get THIS Mexican-American's vote.
