VIDEO: First Read Minute: Obama goes after Bain, new NBC/WSJ poll
NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss President Obama's harshest and most personal attack on Mitt Romney, and the presumptive GOP nominee's response.
If the GOP monied aristocracy is is STILL, still spending time and money to lie through their teeth about the President's birthplace and religion,
Then, going after Romney at Bain Capital is superdoubleplus - more than fair game.
And a no-brainer. Because Romney's record at Bain is not about taking care of all the people, all of the time -- far from it. He decimated communities, took folks's jobs and hopes for a future. He only took care of investors and his wee self.
You would agree with her if she said the sky is purple so what else is new?
LOL. Poor Reb. Maybe you could find someone that you share a thought with if you search long enough.

Critics note that the state government of Indiana also subsidized the company with millions of taxpayer dollars, a point that Romney doesn't mention.
Romney is a very dangerous man who lied and deceived his way through life, also Mitt has a split personality, that's why he flip flops, Mitt Romney needs to step to the side and get help !
President Obama still leads but it is close. That should come as no suprprise to anyone who follows politics on a regular basis. It is typical for voters to give the opponent a "look, see". Romney is the presumptive candidate but there are still some primaries to go and he still must campaign to the GOP base. The problem for Romney will come when both sides are in full, general election mode; he cannot move back to center because if he does, the far-right conservatives might stay home. If he doesn't head back to center, he loses the middle. Despite the 5 years of Romney campaigning, he has yet to define what a Romney presidency would like look beyond a few hints at tax cuts for the rich and Ryan's plan is "marvelous". He has flip flopped his views so much that he and voters have whiplash. Who is Mitt Romney? That's the question the "give him a look-see voters" wait to have answered.

I mean after all the republicans are running against an imaginary President Obama. You know the communist, the socialist, the Nazi, the Muslim, the bad christian, the most radical left wing president ever, christian hating, religious hating, gay loving left wing radical that hangs with terrorist.
Then they run the President Obama imaginary character against their right wing imaginary character of Romney the job creator. Just because Romney never created any jobs on purpose and was 47th out of 50 when governor in job creation. Republicans never let the truth get in the way of a good lie.
Just because Romney the one supposed to have economic knowledge, he looked at the Ryan budget and said it was marvelous. Never mind that the same policies created another recession in England. Never mind the fact that the Ryan budget increases the deficit while punishing our veterans for their service and starving our children and killing education for our countries future. All to drive up the deficit to give more tax cuts to Romney and his rich friends.
If you talk about the real Romney and not their imaginary republican candidate, then the republicans call it character assassination.

Rick. One point you mentioned in your post was about people who failed to vote in the last election. I have exercised my right to vote in every election since I was legally able to do so. All the while I have wondered why so many others fail to do so. Some fail to even register. This defies all logic in my opinion. Then there are other's who register then fail to vote. I have thought about this many times and asked questions to many about their reason for not voting. The majority of the people have said that they decided not to vote because the outcome wouldn't be changed because of their vote. Again, this logic is mind boggling to me because it would simply be a matter of many of these people colectively voting that would change an election.
But i want to ask those of you who come here everyday with a passion about our country and how we govern it.
My question is this:
Because of the way political districts are mapped, technology that incorporates almost instant results through exit polling, national news sources that want to be the first to report the winner/loser and a country divided by several time zones, what if we changed WHEN the votes were counted?
Living west of the Rockies we are three hours behind the east coast. National election results are already being stated before most people on the west coast have voted. We can't thwart free press. They have the right to report the news as they want. But because of this, many people fail to vote because they feel their single vote won't get their candidate elected or that their candidate is so far ahead it also wouldn't matter.
If we really want more people to vote it is my thought that we make it unlawful for anyone from the press to come within 100 yards of a polling place on election day to conduct interviews. Second, votes are not counted until the following day. This would, in my opinion promote more people to vote without distraction of what may be an obvious outcome.
you said it!! This is all funny stuff. It is nice to see all the smoke and mirrors that are put up. I find these vines very entertaining. It makes me sad that people are so true to their parties that they don't see the big picture. Oh well, can't fix it!!
My guess is Romney will probably be scared of Obama, one on one. Romney always looks to me like a guy who is about to lose it when anyone questions him about anything. He will come across as very shrill.
Romney is too much of a Nervous Nelly. That Nervous Nelly laugh comes out especially when someone gets in his face. So, can you image what will happen when the President gets into his face during the debates?
If the Republicans could coach Sarah Palin into sounding like a Vice President for the duration of a debate, I'm sure they can make Romney look pretty slick as well.
What they will struggle to do, however, is to keep Romney under wraps, like they had to do with Bush, because off the cuff, Romney is apt to blurt out things like "don't you see? don't you see? Corporations are people too!"
To know Romney is to not want to vote for him. Believe me, I've seen him speak in person.
I think Obama wants to talk about anything but the economy. He said if he couldnt get it fixed in 4 years he didnt deserve a second term, and he doesnt.
Amy - I think I missed the debate where Palin looked anything but ridiculous. I only saw the ones where she kept talking about things she wasn't asked and had notes on her hand. She actually looked like a VP in one? Were you drinking heavily that night?
Steve nobody thought the republicans would block the recovery of America.
Until recently we didn't know a group of republicans met and decided on the day that President Obama was inaugurated that destroying President Obama and any good he wanted to do for America was their goal.
The republicans did not care that their hate would cause the by-product of many, many America's suffering. The republicans with the Ryan budget voted for a recession here in America to give more to the rich while increasing the deficit and more suffering for the poor.
As usual blame our president for what the republicans have done. While you are just a patsy for the republican party, you probably think you are smart. You have not figured out that the Romney puppet is the same as the Bush puppet and will be pushing the same American destroying policies that nearly destroyed our country the last time the republicans were in power.
Romney will pull a Pawlenty when he debates President Obama one on one. ObamneyCare on the campaign trail, silence on the GOP debate stage. Whenever Romney is asked a question that doesn't fit his narrative, or contradicts his previous statements, he becomes defensive and huffy. Romney spouts lies every day on the campaign stage but he can't do that on the debate stage. No doubt the Obama Team has a big card file on Mitt's utterances of ignorance on domestic and foreign policy--I remember Candidate Obama throwing "bomb, bomb, bomb....bomb, bomb Iran" in McCain's face.
Yes, I saw her debate Joe Biden (First thing, she asked if she could call him "Joe." We later found out it was because she kept referring to him as "Mr. O'Biden" in debate rehearsals, so she asked to call him Joe to avoid making that mistake.)
Are you sure, how will Obama react when asked about the auto dealership closing forced by the government under the restructuring? These were dealerships that were for the most part profitable. Many did good things in their communities; yet, they were forced to close and lay off thousands as part of a government oversight. These layoffs are directly Obama's and were unnecessary. The dealerships should have had a right to compete and succeed or fail rather than having their franchise rights pulled.
If working at Bain and being a Govenor doesn't "qualify" Mr. Romney to be president, how in the world does being a "community organizer - thug from Chicago" qualify the Boy King to be re-elected? Since he's so grossly failed during his first term, are we to feel sorry for him and give him a "make over"? - no way!
Republicans have a strange definition of "failure" vs "success."
George W. Bush took the surplus Clinton left and turned it into a deficit.
Bush left a financial crisis to Obama, plus two wars and a cratering employment rate.
Under Obama, the economy has improved, employment has improved, one war is finished and the other is winding down, all three American car companies are profitable for the first time in six years, Osama bin Laden is dead...and why are we even talking about replacing our current President?
Your post should be highlighted for everyone to see more readily Amy.
Your post has stated just a handful of reasons why we need to re-elect President Obama. He has the ability to bring America back to or even beyond the point where we once enjoyed being positioned; at the top of the heap in every aspect of prosperity.
I called Corey Booker's office last evening, but his voicemail message box was full so I could not unload on him personally. It's amazing to me how a person's subconscious reveals itself. Deep down, Hizzoner does not like Obama or is jealous of the President--whatever it is, it sure is hostile.
Honest to goodness, waving his surrogate cards on Meet the Press is tantamount to saying 'screw you' to the Democratic Party. One of my messages to Mr. Booker was going to be that he needs to run in future elections as an independent.
I appperciate the way our President stood firm and tall and told the truth about being a president and what it entails. He did not critize Corey either.
You guys are so fast to throw one of your own under the bus for disagreeing with you it makes me wonder why anybody would want to be associated with your crowd.
Even poor Brian had to beg forgiveness the other day when he didn't fully toe the line to your way of thinking. Guess that is a good definition of a bully!!
the armpit of america is no longer new jersey, its now california
cory booker has done an amazing job in newark, I've lived aprox an hour away from Newark for over 40 years and have seen its unbelievable transformation. if the independents were smart they would recruit booker. his track record so far is outstanding. its a shame he got such backlash for telling it like it is.
Personally, I think Cory Booker is being subjected to excessive criticism by both sides. One thing I like about democrats is they are not parrots. He deserves some criticism because he failed to remember his appearance on MTP was to speak for democrats and President Obama, and obviously he failed to do some homework before his appearance. His biggest mistake was forgetting that even the slightest criticism would be pounced on by the GOP and the media to fuel the fires of division. He expressed his opinion about venture capitalists in general and most of us agree with that. His problem was he failed to express that Romney's record at Bain is fair game because Romney is running on that business experience just as was President Obama's public and private experience. I think Booker expressed what many people feel when they see the flood of vicious character attack ads leveled at candidates from both sides. The Romney attack ads on Newt Gingrich in Iowa were viscious and "nauseating". The Obama Bain ad is not a vicious, character attack on Romney--it merely points out the side of Bain that Romney doesn't want to talk about. The ad does not attack Mitt Romney's character, it merely points out what Bain Capital and Romney did to 22% of the businesses they bought; it wasn't pretty. That's fair game.
Corey Booker does, to my knowledge, a great job as mayor. We should be talking about what Mitt Romney would do as president compared to President Obama instead of what Corey Booker said, how he said it and adding fuel to the feeding frenzy the media loves--Booker isn't running for president.
How smart is Romney to base his credentials on job creation while at Bain Capital? His claims number those jobs as "over 1,000", no, "10,000", no, "100.000", or back to "10,000", with absolutely no documentation to support the claims. ("Rick, I'll bet you $10,000) Then, as first hand reports of his Bain Capital caused job losses and business bankruptcies are reported, he calls those facts "character assassination", therefore a denial of the facts or an admission of the moral culpability of such actions.
That is reminiscent of the bragging about bringing Saddam Hussein to justice, without mentioning the collateral killing of 100,000 Iraqi civilians and 4,400 Americans, surpassing Osama bin laden by more than a 1,000 dead American troops and civilians. War is Hell, but only in the details. "Mission Accomplished" or "job creation" is the political explanation of a great many casualties.
A Chinese conglomerate announced yesterday that it would buy major US cinema chain, AMC Entertainment Holdings, for US$2.6 billion in China’s biggest corporate takeover in the US to date.
AMC’s owners include Apollo Global Management, Bain Capital ( Romney), the Carlyle Group,( The Bush Family) CCMP Capital Advisors and Spectrum Equity Investors.
2002: Romney Touted The “Record Amount Of Money” He Got From The Federal Government For The Olympics And Said “That’s The Same Thing I’ll Do As Governor Of Massachusetts--Get More Money From The Federal Government.”
One key is missing from the Private Investment "Raider" Romney's job including others who do this type of work. The companies only put up several not nearly as many "Millions" as the Government does, that's tax payer money. Once the Romney's of the world take these companies into "Bankruptcy" the American people get a "Double Whammy", Poeople like Romeny's company walk away with Millions more than they invested, the workers's Retirement/Pensions are reduced to 2 cents on the Dollar and the people paying the workers are you and me while Romeny & Company walked away with millions more than they put into their initial investment.
One example I believe Romney company's invested 10 Million, made 100 Million and all the employees lost heir jobs and had their pensions to shreds.
These thousands of families who were put on the street while Romney and his company walked away with millions and left taxpayers holding the bag for their significantly reduced pensions, nobody cared, his job was to make money for Bain.
You have to have a very cut throat personality to do this job.
SandieLove, great points. The KS steel plant Romney touts as a success for Bain received multi-millions in state and local government money; Bain invested a small amount in comparison. While the KS plant is a success, most likely that success was because of the state and local government investment.
Romney reminds me of Edward Lewis, the fictional character in Pretty Woman who was a venture/vulture capitalist who bought struggling companies or companies that hit hard times and tore them apart to sell off the assets piece by piece destroying the business and the employees lives--that is until he met Vivian who humanized him, reminded him there was more to life and business than creative destruction for profit.
Obama & Company DESTROYED the livelihood of potentially tens of thousands of families when GM & Chrysler dealerships were closed.
As has been widely reported, the Inspector General's study skewered the Obama Gang for strong-arming the companies into closing 2,000 dealerships, costing an estimated 100,000 people their jobs during a recession.
But the news media has ignored key elements of Barofsky's report -- elements that are far more damaging, if possible, to Obama. As reported, a top Obama official, manufacturing czar and "Auto Team" leader Ron Bloom admitted that the dealerships could have been kept open, saving those jobs, "but that doing so would have been inconsistent with the President's mandate for 'shared sacrifice.'"
Barofsky says the administration insisted on the closings even though a GM official told him
that GM would usually save 'not one damn cent' by closing any particular dealership. ... Furthermore, a GM official stated that removing a dealership from the network does not save money for GM -- it might even cost GM money -- and that savings cannot be attributed or assigned to any one dealership.
After nearly 4 years of a FAILED presidency Dims like Patriotic UnAmerican STILL can't bring themselves to admit they elected a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
NOBAMA2012, the Marxist/Socialist Experiment IS A FAILURE!
It's why the romney doesn't want to talk about his record in MA or his previous campaigns. He'd have to deny saying all those moderate to liberal comments he spouted trying to woo votes.
14.5% unemployment, if you count those that have dropped off unemployment and have stopped looking for work
No plan to stop deficit spending
No plan to stop debt building.
Ran for office on being a unifier, but has governed as the most divisive President ever.
Has attacked the Church by trying to force them to pay for insurance coverage that goes counter to their beliefs. Thereby alienating Christians.
Is ratcheting up his attacks on the very fundamental cornerstones of our society, the Constitution and free market capitalism, while offering to provide failed European socialism as a replacement.
Wants to expand the Federal government to take control over greater and greater portions of our lives. pays lip service to the idea of enacting laws that will spur private sector employment, while in practice he and his administration push for more and more regulation of businesses and higher and higher taxes on businesses forcing private businesses to sit on the sidelines or go elsewhere to conduct business and take jobs with them.
Calls for "fairness", but tells Us he wants to grant amnesty to illegal aliens so they can become citizens and take our dwindling jobs and collect government handouts.
Has no experience in the private sector, but is all to ready to criticize those that do, while he himself wastes billions in government funds without properly vetting businesses that any one with experience would know are sure to be failures. All to the delight of his campaign contributors who have their failures paid for by taxpayers, while they walk away with accounts full of money.
Fails to instruct the Atty general to cooperate with ongoing Congressional investigations into corruption and scandal, while telling the voters that he will do everything possible to stop the corruption.
Sues States that want to assist the Fed. Gov. in enforcing existing laws, while at the same time complaining that he can not enforce the laws because it takes too much man power and capital to do so.
Allows the agencies that work underneath him to lavishly spend tax payer monies on exotic trips and vacations and, after being informed of same, does nothing about it for months on end and it only comes to the public light upon an investigation by Congress.
Tries to dodge talking about his failing record by manufacturing a fake "War On Women" only to have it backfire when polls show that women are not buying it and realize that the real war on them is coming from Mr. Obama's failure to do what is right to correct our economic problems.
Says he is for a "balanced" approach, but submits budgets to Congress that contain proposals for the continuation of deficit spending and debt building, no end in sight and no plan to stop it.
Is waging war on the lives of our children and grand children, despite promises not to do so, by saddling them with a massive Federal debt they will have to figure out how to pay back to communist China.
Says he is for "fairness" but stands by watching China engage in unfair and unbalanced trade practices that are stealing our economy, manufacturing base and jobs.
2002: Romney Touted The “Record Amount Of Money” He Got From The Federal Government For The Olympics And Said “That’s The Same Thing I’ll Do As Governor Of Massachusetts--Get More Money From The Federal Government.”
Let's compare candidate Romney’s resume to President Obama’s prior to his running for President. (We all know what he’s done since then.) If he’s asking us to consider Mitt Romney’s preparedness to be President, we have every right to ask the same question about President Obama.
Mitt Romney’s resume is simple and pretty much speaks for itself: Bain Capital. 2002 winter Olympics. Governor of Massachusetts. Management, management and more management. Private sector and government.
President Obama’s resume is equally telling: Community organizer. Civil rights attorney, teaching constitutional law. Three 2 year terms in the Illinois Senate. Fours lackluster years in the U.S. Senate, during much of which he was running for President. President of the United States. Zero business or management experience, except what he’s learned on the job since being elected to his current position.
Okay, let’s forget about precisely how many net jobs Mitt Romney created while he was at Bain Capital. While there may have been a bad deal or two on which the Obama campaign is focusing, no one really disputes that Bain’s overall record for jobs creation, under Mitt Romney, was exemplary. President Obama, on the other hand, was wholly unprepared to be President during difficult economic times, and still is. “Wholly unprepared.”
Look at President Obama’s resume. Is it any wonder that he’s the “Poor Johnny One Note” of Presidents, if you remember your elementary school choir songbook. All he knows is government. His only solution to any problem – economic, fiscal or social – is “government.”
Actually I heard teaching Constitutional Law is stretch. I would like to see the syllabus. I heard the class only concentrated on the 14th Amendment and no other parts of the Constitution.
Obama's auto bailout really saved American jobs. I understand both are building a lot of new plants offshore. This is not bad, it is just hypocritical to say Obama has been better.
The only poll which counts is the one on 11.6.12
With approximately 5 months to go... I'm not concerning myself with what 1,000 or so people have to say!
Get back to me in the fall, after the long hot summer...
The electoral map is, by far, more interesting.
I didn't even have to watch video to know from your response that it didn't have good news for you Obamabots.

Many people remain on the fence up to the last minute.
A candidate can say or do something in the coming months that will bring a person to one side or the other.
We have already seen differing results in the past month. Some have had one leading, then the other.
Simply put, it is way to early to start believing what will transpire in November.
Feisty,
So true!
You would agree with her if she said the sky is purple so what else is new?
Brian,
You said it - most normal people are not paying attention at this point, they're planning summer vacations, graduations and so on.

Is Feisty tipped off the NBC poll is bad for Obama?
The electoral map looks better for the GOP every day.
NC and Indiana are locked for the GOP.
Wisconsin is now a swing state, as well as PA.
Virginia , Florida, Ohio, all trending in our direction.
Hmmm... I asked someone earlier to prove this & so far he doesn't have the balls!

Mitt Romney is a Flip Flopping fool and a loser that's going down with his nutty TeaBaggers !
you said it!! This is all funny stuff. It is nice to see all the smoke and mirrors that are put up. I find these vines very entertaining. It makes me sad that people are so true to their parties that they don't see the big picture. Oh well, can't fix it!!
This is for RICK,KY
NoBama in November.
Actually, he did get it fixed and we are doing better every day. So, it's time to re-elect President Obama.
VOTE FOR AMERICA...VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
SeekingSanity
American First
Is this the newest excuse de jour? All Obama ever has is excuses, and we are getting tired of them.
Actually, President Obama has a GREAT record and the facts back this up.

Unfortunately Gary is in bad health because his party fail him !
With surrogates like that, who needs Karl Rove?
$565,000 worth of campaign contributions from Bain Capital can make someone say some crazy things!
Then, there's him being BFF's with Governor Krispy Cream!
Fancy This Too
One of my messages to Mr. Booker was going to be that he needs to run in future elections as an independent.

He said on Rachel last night he was an Independent Democrat. Me-thinks he is a blue dog.
Why Booker Attacked Obama: The REAL Cory [Updated With New Romney Ad/Think Progress]

I appperciate the way our President stood firm and tall and told the truth about being a president and what it entails. He did not critize Corey either.
Jersey boys are not like politicians in the rest of the country. I'm just sayin'.
Bev/Feisty
You guys are so fast to throw one of your own under the bus for disagreeing with you it makes me wonder why anybody would want to be associated with your crowd.
Even poor Brian had to beg forgiveness the other day when he didn't fully toe the line to your way of thinking. Guess that is a good definition of a bully!!
Just saying.....
Amy, Neither are the thugs from Chicago. I'm just sayin'.
the armpit of america is no longer new jersey, its now california
cory booker has done an amazing job in newark, I've lived aprox an hour away from Newark for over 40 years and have seen its unbelievable transformation. if the independents were smart they would recruit booker. his track record so far is outstanding. its a shame he got such backlash for telling it like it is.
GermanGem - nah, the armpit is still New Jersey. But, nice try.
SS
In your mind. Not fact however.
REB - nope - fact!
Good points. Haven't heard any Bain Capital folks out pushing Romney's credentials either; they neither confirm nor deny Mitt's claims.

Thanks for the reminders, Dragon.
Just a fairy tale, the romney is a real life whore.
Barofsky says the administration insisted on the closings even though a GM official told him
Either way....As we find out more and more of the true qualities that make the candidate Romney who he is.....I can not identify with any.
He's one of the priveleged few who prey upon weaker entities....whether it's a classmate, a simple dog or destroying peoples lives with abandon.
Also.... can we really take a man seriously that believes in "magic" underwear.
ssmithlg, your boy "W" threw this Country under the bus !
After nearly 4 years of a FAILED presidency Dims like Patriotic UnAmerican STILL can't bring themselves to admit they elected a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
NOBAMA2012, the Marxist/Socialist Experiment IS A FAILURE!
ssmithlg - again with the stupid "marxist/socialist" garbage. You DO know that makes you look like the moron your rantings say you are, right?
It's why the romney doesn't want to talk about his record in MA or his previous campaigns. He'd have to deny saying all those moderate to liberal comments he spouted trying to woo votes.
After nearly 4 years of a FAILED presidency the Dims STILL can't bring themselves to admit they elected a "community organizer" to do a CEO's job!
NOBAMA2012, the Marxist/Socialist Experiment IS A FAILURE!
Romney should run for dog catcher, his only hope !
Record setting deficit spending
Record setting debt
Chest deep in lobbyist at the WH
8.3% unemployment
And it goes on and on...
END IT IN NOV, VOTE ROMNEY!!!

Sending American jobs overseas....yeah Romney's record speaks clearly.
Actually I heard teaching Constitutional Law is stretch. I would like to see the syllabus. I heard the class only concentrated on the 14th Amendment and no other parts of the Constitution.
44 million from US to bailout Romneys fired employees. Day 0ne and Done
dal,
Obama's auto bailout really saved American jobs. I understand both are building a lot of new plants offshore. This is not bad, it is just hypocritical to say Obama has been better.
