Updated 5:51 p.m. - President Obama offered a full-throated defense of his campaign's scrutiny of Mitt Romney's private sector career, flatly stating, "This is not a distraction."
During his press conference at the NATO summit, President Obama defends his campaign ads attacking Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital.
The president, speaking to reporters in Chicago at the conclusion of a NATO summit there, said that it's perfectly fair to pore through Romney's record at Bain Capital, the private equity firm he had cofounded, since the former Massachusetts governor had made his private sector experience a cornerstone of his campaign.

President Barack Obama offered a full-throated defense of his campaign's scrutiny of Mitt Romney's private sector career, flatly stating, "This is not a distraction."
"This is not a distraction. This is what this campaign is going to be about," Obama said.
The president said that he thought that private equity played an important role in the economy. (Republicans have noted that Obama's re-election campaign hasn't always been shy in soliciting contributions from individuals in that industry.) But Obama also argued that the primary role for those firms is to maximize its return for investors.
"If your main argument for how to grow the economy is that I knew how to make a lot of money for investors, then you're missing what this job is about," the president said.
The president's remarks come in the aftermath of a friendly fire incident this weekend, when Newark Mayor Cory Booker, a Democratic mayor who's a surrogate for Obama, said that he found "nauseating" the Obama campaign's attacks on Romney's Bain record.
(Obama avoided publicly chiding Booker, calling him an "outstanding mayor" before pivoting to launch an attack on Romney.)
"The reason this is relevant to my campaign is because my opponent, Gov. Romney -- his main calling card for why he should be president is his business experience. He's not going out there touting his experience in Massachusetts; he's saying I'm a business guy, I know how to fix it," Obama said, coyly hinting at the typically-Democratic state where Romney served a single term as governor.
"When you're president -- as opposed the head of a private equity firm -- your job is not simply to maximize profits. Your job is to figure out how everybody in the country has a fair shot," Obama said.
Earlier in the day, the Romney campaign had sought to claim political momentum based off of Booker's comments (and a subsequent defense of them by Harold Ford, Jr., a former Democratic congressman). The Romney team released a video pronouncing Obama's attacks the "Big Bain Backfire."
Romney himself responded to Obama in a statement: "President Obama confirmed today that he will continue his attacks on the free enterprise system, which Mayor Booker and other leading Democrats have spoken out against. What this election is about is the 23 million Americans who are still struggling to find work and the millions who have lost their homes and have fallen into poverty. President Obama refuses to accept moral responsibility for his failed policies. My campaign is offering a positive agenda to help America get back to work."

Gosh Barry, the campaign should be about your poor record and your wild spending. Bain is just an excuse to avoid the pain!
Actually , President Obama has a GREAT record and the facts back this up.
What is Willard's record since, he lost in 2008.
Willard's record is fair game!
Wild spending .... the GOP added $8 BILLION to the NDAA bill last week.
$8 BILLION more than allowed by the Budget Control Act.
Obviously, Mark, you did not hear the entire answer President Obama gave regarding Bain Capital and Mitt Romney nor did FR post the entire response. I did, what FR noted was one small portion of a lengthy answer and President Obama is right.
As Job1 pointed out, President Obama has a strong record to run on. Too bad the only thing Mitt Romney can claim is Bain Capital. Obama in his remarks said Romney doesn't talk about his time as Governor.
Sandy, good point.
Sure, it's a terrific record. How many people are out of work? GDP is what? How high is the debt? It's been how long since there was a budget? How close to a nuclear weapon is Iran?
Obama is learning, albeit it a little late. Yes, indeedy, the purpose of any business- any at all- is to earn a profit. Private venture capital groups, McDonald's, KMart, -even the local plumber- are in business to earn a profit.
Not to sell ha,burgers.
Not to fix pipes.
Not to sell cheap consumer goods.
To earn arofit. The methods that different businesses use to make that profit- the vehicle of their profits- may differ by sector, but, in the end, these are not charities, these are businesses.
Now, why is it, having FINALLY learned the fundamental lesson that eight year olds running a lemonade stand learn, Obama makes it sound like these businesses are doing something wrong? Is this his reaction to finally being proved wrong, or does he, really, think it is evil to earn a profit?
Either way, he will have plenty of time to nurture his wounded ego.
Obama shelved in 2012.
Job1,
Get up off your knees, throw away the pom poms and take the cheerleader costume off ! Again you throw out the vagueness of "facts" with nothing to support your "OPINION". LOL !
Yes, this will be Obama's desperate campaign strategy ! He is clueless about the economy and he doesn't have the foggiest notion of what a real budget looks like !!
Obama will attack, attack and attack... desperately trying to make someone else look worse than himself !
Yes, Mr. Obama, Why face the REAL issues of our country ? Why face the rapidly rising national debt ?? Why face the unsustainable entitlement programs ??? Why face the REAL unemployment and underemployment in this country ???? Why face the real border issues of national security when you can sue the states instead ?????
A lot of questions for you Mr.Obama, but no real answers from you ! Too bad you now have a record !!
Job1,
You use biased info collected from left leaning propaganda sites. Most of the libs on here only look at the side of the story that makes Obama look good, if it doesn't make him look good then it must be a lie.
Nutjob1, If Obama's record is so great, why isn't he running on it instead of Bain, dogs, and haircuts.
Talk is cheap job, here are just a FEW gems of obama's past 4 years:
- Solyndra
-1 in 6 Americans in poverty
- he's a job killer
-added $6 trillion to our National Debt
- redistribution of wealth
- labor participation rate at a 3 year low
I could go on and on, but have better things to do...... Obama better fix his old teleprompter for the debate, he's in trouble......
@ Jim
Guess you missed it last week when your GOP House added $8 BILLION to the Debt.
They do that crap all the time. Then it is Obama's debt. BS
@ Steve H
Romney has been using a teleprompter lately. Will it help his flip flops?
Talking point, talking point, no facts, nothing to back it up, blah, blah, blah. It's getting old Mark. How about backing up what you're saying . . . oh, wait, you can't.
Never mind.
From the response across parties, the Bain push by the presidents team (in baseball terms) is a swing and a miss.
Billy-Boy,
Are you seriously that ignorant?
When have candidates ever used a teleprompter during a debate... you idiot?
Lay off the hatoraide, it's rotting the two remaining neurons you stil have firing!
Have you folks are the radical right ever used the internet? You can find hundreds of sites in which you can look at President Obama's GREAT record.
After you do your research you may want to look at Romney's record and perhaps then you may want to join the winning team of President Obama. Think about it.
What a bunch of wimps with zero credibility and 100% hypocrisy.
If you give it, then you better take it. That goes for all candidates. If you can't stand the heat then get yourself out of my freakin kitchen!
Job1,
High unemployment
Not enough jobs to keep up with population growth
Wildly unpopular Health Care Act
Blowing money on failed Green Energy
Out of control spending and debt
Stalled out economy
Class warfare
GSA scandal
Solyndra
Yes his record is impressive.
Hi Feisty,
Just when you think you have heard it all, another one crawls out of the wood work.
Lets talk about Bains 80% success rate.
Lets talk about the success rate of 0bama's green energy investments.
Lets talk about how investment makes up more that 10%of our economy.
Lets talk about how 0bama and the liberals want to demonize all involved in in investment.
@ Steve H
redistribution of wealth
Congress gives oil companies, oil subsidizes about $8 BILLION taxpayer money.
Exon distributed $7 Billion to shareholders in the first quarter of 2012.
Your tax dollars were redistributed by congress.
The bad thing you can maybe blame on the President for his watch is the GSA scandal. The rest of the bad stuff you had better check with the guy named W. Bush that started all of this before President Obama. However, we will take credit for the health care and green energy.
Now don't worry President Obama will finish cleaning up the mess left him.
The first reason for any business is to provide a service or a product. After that comes trying to make a profit.
If, as conservatives imply, the sole reason for a business is to make a profit, why should anyone support the business? If the seller gets a profit, what do we get for laying down our money? Are we supposed to buy a product because we want the seller to make a profit? Does it even matter what the product is or how good it is or how long it lasts?
Seriously?!
If I pay McDonalds for a hamburger, I want a hamburger. Not some nice note thanking me for their profit. If I hire a plumber he had better know how to fix my pipes and actually fix them if he wants to get paid anything, mush less make a profit.
The key word is "earn." What planet do you conservatives live on?!
Sandy, you blithering fool, the "subsidy" that oil companies get is not from tax payers.
They are using tax deductions that every other business in the country gets to.
Letting them keep more of their money is not taking anything from the tax payers.
All of you disgusting socialists are in for a very rude awakening, when atlas shrugs.
I will not pray for you.
Obama needs something to distract the voters from his record of failure. What else does he have?
Its been three and half years, Bush is not president, Obama "the buck stops here." Remember that little line from obama's campaign?
Oblamer shelved 2012
Let's talk about the GM bailout and the unnecessary FORCED CLOSURE of GM franchises across this country. How many employees did the Obama administration force out of work by that reckless outcome ?
There really has not been much coverage of this by MSDNC.
so i guess President Obama forgot about the donations he took from Bain in 07' and in the first 3 quarters of 2011
nojonobo:
I'm sure Obama knew all along that the purpose of a business is to make a profit for investors, contrary to what Willard Mittens Romney pretends about job creation. Now, when will YOU learn that making a profit for investors is NOT the purpose of a national government? Given your repeated demonstrations of your inability to learn anything that doesn't provide some flimsy justification for your hatred of Obama, my guess is that you'll never learn what the purpose of a government really is.
Fielden
why would anyone go to the trouble to start a business if they didn't expect a profit? You are naive, if you believe there is anyother reason to start a buisiness.
jim-1455434
How many jobs would have been lost if Obama had let the auto industry collapse and drag down the rest of the US economy with it?
Houston!,
The purpose of the Government should not be to have everyone dependent on it.
Pass the food stamps please
Houston
Ford didn't take the bailout and they are doing great!
DUANE-552524,
Thats because they have good products... Unlike GM.
You know its a buisness thing, You make over priced crap, people don't buy your crap and your out of buisness.
Maybe it would had been better to let Goverment Motors go down.
@ Elliot
I do not rebut to those who stoop to name calling,
in their reply to me.
Private equity is about wealth creation, it is not about job creation. If you can create wealth and add jobs great, but that is not the focus of private equity it is to make money for investors. Sometimes it means making money by breaking up a company, other times it means growing a company. Ironically one of the business successes Romney touts is AMC theatres, which hasn't been a big money maker of late, which is why Bain (and the other private equity investment companies that own Bain) sold it today to the Chinese.
Let's remember that the people that introduced the majority of Americans to the shady practices of Bain Capital were the Republicans. The Super Pac "benefactor" of Newt Gingrich in Vegas paid for the whole series of films about him, and how he bankrupted many companies.
The GOP is to thank for the release of those facts, mostly unknown to us. We knew that Mitt Romney was scum, but we did not know how much.
So, there is something to "thank" the historian Gingrich after all......
lahater
Since nobody says it is, you're just tossing out a straw man argument to avoid admitting that you don't know what the purpose of government is, either. Maybe if you try reading the Preamble to the Constitution, you'll get a clue.
Bain's sole reason to exist was to create easy, low risk returns for their extremely rich private equity investors. They did well at that because it is a low risk game when you have a big enough chunk of capital to start with. You but up a struggling company and turn it around by cutting wages of existing workers, like Staples, or lay everyone off and sell the assets. Both methods make a profit for Bain investors, but next to nothing for the workers.
For Romney to try and sell that business model as a job creator is disingenuous at best, and outright hogwash in reality. Creating jobs is the last priority for the Bain type of investor.
Venture capital, a very high risk type of investment, is the kind of capital that can create jobs. And Romney has zero experience in that.
Sandy, i wouldn't expect you to. Now go play in traffic.
DUANE-552524
Ford WANTED the government to give loans to Chrysler and GM, because if Ford's competitors went out of business, the supply chain that provides parts for all three automakers would collapse, and Ford would soon have followed into the abyss -- along with the entire US economy.
elliot - please do not pray for any of us. My guess is no one is listening to the likes of you!
So glad to see President Obama FIGHTING BACK!
About time somebody confronted Romney and the Republican 1%ers over their defintion of "success." Making your fortune by sending jobs overseas and sticking tax payers with workers' pension funds is not my definition of a successful businessman!
So Romney is rich, so what, he was given millions to invest by Bain, it's not like Romney came to this country with nothing and built a fortune through his own hardwork and smarts!
conservatives really have no idea what driving the nation dept. Spending? all that's the repuk record.

conservative policies are sinking this country.
If you look at the chart from the Center on budget and policy Priorities and look (and understand) where we as a country would be at if you remove all the conservative policies and spending. We'd be in decent shape. But I forget conservatives believe that the bush taxcuts for the top 1% are deficit neutral.
BUT THEY NEVER WHERE AND NEVER WILL BE.
keep drinking that coolaid conservatives.
Houston ! You have a problem !
The Google search I just made shows a Huffington Post article (yes, a libbie news source) with an article dated June 24, 2009 stating that more than a 1,000 dealerships would be closed. Why ? What was the rationale behind forced closures ?? Why not let market dynamics determine who survives and who does not ??? How many employees at these franchises were needlessly forced out of a job by the Obama administration ????
Speculation about how many jobs "would have been lost" is just that .... speculation. GM went bankrupt anyway. The federal bailout of GM accomplished one thing only ... it preserved the union pensions for Obama's union buddies while it totally screwed GM shareholders in violation of normal liquidating preferences in a bankruptcy action. This is why the unions send Obama so many political contributions.
Chrysler is now owned by FIAT, they did NOT repay all their loans and some Chrysler franchises were also forced out of business.
Obama seems to forget his own "vulture capitalism" Isn't that conveeennnnnniiieeennnnttttttt !!!!!!!!!!
The same way that JP Morgan's 3 billion loss (so far now), was someone else's gain? That remark by Romney was the only remark with a grain of truth. Though it by no means dismisses playing casino with FDIC-insured tax money, the folks that gained were real investors that the JP Morgan guy was ripping off.
But seriously, Bain making a profit at the expense of the companies they took over is what? Bain making a profit with government subsidies is what? It all comes down to corporate welfare, of privatizing profit and socializing debt.
Our system of capitalism has been twisted to the point we no longer recognize it. Now only about 16% of what Wall Street and banks do is provide venture capital. Derivatives, toxic mortgage securities, the revolving door of corruption -- For Pete's sake we cannot put a plutocrat like Romney in the White House. Especially since that would put Paul Ryan and the oligarchy he answers to in control of Congress as well.
At least "do no harm" -- Obama/Biden - 2012!
Romney claims to have created 100,000 jobs at Staples and Domino's. Does anyone know of anyone (except the managers) working at one of those businesses that makes a living wage that can support a family of four? When Republicans talk about the jobs they create, they are for the most part low wage jobs so they can maximize their profits. That is not what I want the President of the United States to consider a job. Just because someone will take any job to try and feed their family does not mean it is a good job. We need jobs that will actually pay people enough to afford to pay taxes.
Watch a few videos, educate yourself.

Wait NH Navy ......lmao I had not read that. Can you direct me where I might read that? I really do want to see it in print that Mr Obama took money from Bain. OMG that would be worth posting everyday.
I heard someone put it very well in Ed Schultz's show last Friday.
It's okay to make a profit.
But if you choose a business where, in order to make your profit, you almost automatically make others poor, as Bain has done so many times, then you have left the path of wisdom, not to mention morality.
If the rich want to speculate with each other's money, then let them.
But when they start practicing their speculation in a way that hurts others, then that's not TRUE capitalism, as many have stated, including Newt Gingrich.

It may be what conservatives think of as capitalism, but it certainly is not what Jesus would do.
In case you couldn't figure it out, President Obama was very subtly stating that if all Willard Romney has is a record as a businessman, he is not QUALIFIED to be President of the United States. Since Romney does not want to mention his time as governor (gee, I wonder why that is ????) all he has left is his business experience.
There is nothing wrong with being a venture capitalist. Investing in businesses and making a lot of money doing it are perfectly legal things to do. There is not even any requirement that a single job be created, service rendered, or product created. Being an entrepreneur does not, by any stretch of the imagination, prepare you to be President of the United States.
While Willard Romney may be used to going in and raiding a company for profits to give to his partners, the US government is not supposed to be run like that. While Bush, Cheney and Rove ran the government for the profit of their business partners, such actions resulted in the economic collapse we are still recovering from. Bringing in another Republican will only lead to the ultimate destruction of the nation.
Sort of like your Viet Nam bull@!$%#... huh... Harry?
Tell us again how you claim to have never said you served & I'll make a fool out of YOU... again! lol
Pathological liars, like yourself & Willard don't change their "spots"...
Bain screwed people, there should be scrutiny on Bain.
So you were the one watching.
Bain caused pain, Romney the Barber is barbaric.
What a CROCK OF NONSENSE and you know it.
LIBS - Here is what your Savior (Bill Clinton) says about your Messiah (Obama)
1) Barak Obama is an amatuer.
2) Obama doesn't know how to be the President.
3) Obama is incompetent.
4) Bill Clinton urged Hillary Clinton to challenge Obama for the 2012 nomination, telling her This Country needs you. (I don't know why Hillary didn't do it...Obama is so weak she would have wiped the floor with him.)
ROMNEY 2012!
I can't say that Bain Capital is bad. That is life. There are people that will do anything for a dollar. Think of that back stabbing SOB you work with. That's right the person that will do anything to anybody to get ahead and enrich themselves. The question is "Is that the type of person you want as President of the United States. If so, then Mitt is your man.
no joe, no bo, nj
And who was president when the greatest drop in employment since the depression happened ? When did we start going from a surplus to a defecit ? When did we get involved in a senseless war based on lies and oh yeah, that nucular threat from Iraq ?
"GM is alive and bin Laden is dead !"
Sandy...
If your support criteria for romney is what he has been doing since 2008, perhaps you should stop posting for he no longer works for bain, but he probably has been consolidating support for his 2012 presidential run.
Seems that he has been campaigning since 2008 as well, just like obama with a couple of time outs for his midnight, non-transparent lobbying for healthcare and financial reform.
So cool that both have been bogged down, one being reviewed by SCOTUS and the other still trying to be written into regulatory law.
------------------------------------
Hawkeye democrat - How droll, unless one has a very low self esteem, everyone wants to create wealth, not just private equity company's. If not why go to work? Or have savings or investment accounts? Why own a home rather than rent?
You do realize that private equity wouldn't be required if the businesses they try to restructure were not already in distress with their workers only recourse is the unemployment line.
Private equity is just for making money for the investors? I daresay anyone who has a stake in a company is an investor, from the hourly worker to its shareholders.
Interesting thing about the AMC theaters and the chinese. Would the chinese have even been interested if the AMC chain were just boarded up buildings with antiquated equipment?. Actually pretty smart of the chinese to buy the chain, not only will they maintain the jobs that bain saved but they now have theaters that can show the films that they create in china with little concern for content other than to add to their bottom line.
Facts Republicans Hate:

Jon-1321288 I agree. Nothing wrong with making a profit, nothing wrong with what Bain did and does, but don't try to paint it like their goal was to create jobs, it clearly was not. Their goal was to make a quick buck. That is fine with me, just don't try to BS me or the country about what your goal was.
MM - it wasn't about iraq having a nuclear device as a WMD. It was that they had used gas to kill thousands in both the iran-iraq war and against their own kurd population. Add to it saddams rhetoric on using them again and constantly preventing a consistant and thorough inspection for them. Imagine if you will what would happen if someone was served a search warrent but obstructed the authorities from searching a specific room by telling them they had reconsidered allowing the search.
Perhaps we should have waited for saddam to invade someone else as well. Interesting on how iraqs neighbors found it repugnant to pursue saddam into bagdad in the early 90's, but had no problem with supporting NATO troops to invade and take out saddam after 2002.
@ #1.39
Houston ! Again, you have a problem ... a bad one this time ... your "logic" is giving me the giggles !!
So, by your insightful wisdom, Ford did not want its two competitors in the U.S. market to go out of business ? By losing its competition, it would lose its suppliers and "follow" ????
Houston, if GM and Chrysler were to go out of business (never would have happened anyway) Ford would have had the entire domestic market unto itself .... no domestic competition !!!!! Sales would have soared, profits would reach new highs and ...... sigh, their stock would have gone through the roof !
No, I am sure you are right.... all of this would have been bad for Ford ... NOTTTTTTTTTTT !!!!!!!!!!!!! Please pardon me while I lay rolling on the floor, laughing my a$$ off ! You never had a course in business did you ?
Romney just show us were the 100,000 jobs are that Bain created.
Chrysler made in the U.S.A.
Bin Laden die 6 years ago? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SNsnpxc-6eY
With both Romney and Obama being funded by Goldman Sachs I wonder what koolaid people are drinking thinking our situation in this country is going to get any better with either of them in office.
Stop the endless wars already!
Its NOT good for the economy just people who build weapons.
Open your eyes.
Jim,
You are wrong. Ford can't just ramp up production to consume the 'market share' that would be left by the loss of GM and Chrysler. With most of the suppliers working with multiple's of the big 3 (suppliers tend to be 'children' of the primary companies, so a supplier for the big 3 won't supply any of the asian car makers that assemble in the US/Canada and there will be a different set of suppliers for the european branch plants as well), the loss of one or more of their customers, especially the loss of the largest of those 3 companies, would generally result in the loss of the suppliers as well. The industry just doesn't turn on a dime. It isn't like a corner store where you can just set up a new one, call up a few suppliers and voila, you are up and running.
The supplier industry just wouldn't have had enough time to re-task to adjust to the reality that 2 of your 3 customers are now gone. If there was enough 'slack' in the system to provide for the 3 to 5 year timeframe that it would take to adapt, then that might have worked. Problem is that there just wasn't (and still isn't) enough slack. Also remember that profit margins in the supplier chain tend to be much much tighter, making that 'slack' that much more tighter.
You are also making the assumption that there is a difference between a domestic auto market and an import auto market from a demand side. There is no difference. Ford just didn't (still doesn't, and never will) have the capacity to just eat up that much market share in short period. No company does.
The loss of Chrysler wouldn't have made that much of a difference, but the loss of GM, along with the structural aspect of GM's business, would have basically rendered most of the critical supply chain for both GM & Ford extinct.
Now you may say, that's retarded, and that is bad business, but that is the way that production planning works today. Most mature industries actually behave this way.
Laugh your ass off all you want, doesn't make the comment untrue.
Benazir Bhutto announced Bin Laden dying from kidney failure then she was murdered, is there no limit they won't go to keep their power? ( bankers, Washington politicians, Wallstreet)
So sad, only a few intelligent beings commenting. All the hateful words and intention from the usual crowd of the Right, so sad. Good to see the changing going on in the open-hearted people, though. The lies, deceptions and obfuscations of the Right are not working.
By a vote of 238-182, members of Congress rejected the amendment offered by Representatives Adam Smith (D-Washington) and Justin Amash (R-Michigan) (left and right, respectively in photo montage at left) that would have repealed the indefinite detention provision passed overwhelmingly last year as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2012.
The Fiscal Year 2013 NDAA retains the indefinite detention provisions, as well as the section permitting prisoners to be transferred from civilian jurisdiction to the custody of the military.
Obama could stop this with a stroke of the pen, this is unconstitutional!
But he won't, and Romney has no interest in reversing this either. Pay attention America and vote against who voted for this or you might find yourself or someone you love in a prison with no hope of getting out.
Romney could change the subject:
He could start bragging about what he did as Governor.
@ Elliot: The purpose of a thief is to commit thievery. Extreme redistribution of wealth. Popular republican vocation.
@America-2051576
That's right all Romney has done since, 2008 is run for President.
President Obama has been serving as the elected President.
Romney has been serving as CIC. Chief-in-Criticism.
Soyndra created jobs. Solyndra did not create a profit.
Saying Solyndra was a failure is arguing that profits are more important that jobs.
Bain Capital's purpose was and continues to be creating profit for shareholders - not creating jobs.
Saying Bain Capital is a success is arguing that profits are more important that jobs.
-------------------------
Romney = profits
Obama = jobs
Our economy does not have a shortage of profits - there is a shortage of JOBS.
WHAT HAS MITT ROMNEY DONE FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS LATELY?????
@fielden. A business's purpose if iit is not a non profit or a not for profit is to turn a Profit. Many companies actually have some idea of a product but they cannot cross the chasm and stay in business. Read The Goal. Obviously you have never run a business. You cannot stay in business if you do not make money. And the steel company everyone is chatting about would not have lasted eight years or so without the Bain investment.
If Mitt Romey did not measure up to John McCaine, then why the sudden change of HEART??? The Republican candidates could not convince me the first time around how is it different now? It seems that some of Mitt Romey's social issues have changed, but those aren't economic issues. Mitt Romney did not even make economy to be the major issue during his first go around in the Republican Primary in 2007/2008. Mitt was against rescuing the American auto industry. Mitt claimed how his MA universal healthcare system was working, and should be the case study for our Domestic healthcare program. He was for the continuation of occupation in the Middle East....
These are fundemental differences that easily alter any nation's economy and outlook. Again, why the sudden shift in belief? Secondly, why is Mitt involved taking credit for the GM rescue? and Auto industry rescue? Did he invest in Chrysler, GM or Ford personally?
Don't understand why taking credit for something that clearly did not involve him.
Mr President.... smooth response. One question: How's staying in Afghanistan or any other current US occupation for the good of our people and current economic state of affairs?
1. Government spending is lower than when President Obama took office.
2. Government deficits are lower than when President Obama took office.
3. Federal Taxes are lower than when President Obama took office.
4. Private sector jobs have gone up for 27 consecutive months (all during President Obamas term)
5. Government employment as a percentage of the population is lower than when President Obama took office.
6. As of today- "Chicago (CNN) -- NATO leaders signed off Monday on President Barack Obama's exit strategy from Afghanistan that calls for an end to combat operations next year and the withdrawal of the U.S.-led international military force by the end of 2014."
Bain is what Axelrod wants the election to be about. Second term elections are always about the encumbent's 1st term record, which ain't so hot.
Nerm_L, it had to be you! Thanks for the AWESOME post. You never disappoint me, Luv.
1 in 7 are on food stamps. I am working my a$$ off, so the federal judges in the western U.S. circuit can go on a Maui vacation costing millions. While in Hawaii, the guests are scheduled to stay in the upscale Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. And they'll have the chance to kick back with an array of recreational activities -- sport fishing, golf, paddle-board lessons, yoga, Zumba, even a floral design workshop. We need a new Govt. Ours is out of control!
Are you kidding me? What do you think the Republicans spent all those years dominating the judiciary and government agencies doing? They were establishing their own pipelines.....They've been falling out of the woodwork like roaches for the last three and 1/2 years.
You don't get rid of the fixer until the job is complete, you certainly don't let the same guys who broke it have it back.
John: actually that first term record is going to win Obama a second term...
Now for all those hoping the longest wars in history keep going, who ache to return the US to it's status as the only developed nation in the world without any kind of a health care plan, who think taxes on the richest Americans are the country's biggest problem, who believe the US Constitution's right to privacy doesn't include women, who LONG for the days of George Bush...well then....at least you have a candidate you can in the years ahead deny voting for.
A catchy campaign slogan and being able to read a speech was all it took for Obama to get elected. There was no vetting, Obama was an enigma. Unqualified, in over his head, who knows what Obama really has in store for the country because he has yet to articulate it to anyone. Obama has 3.5 years of total failure as president, and president in name only. Obama has no record to run on, and four more years of this disaster is too much to risk. So let Obama play his games, as this time around only his supporter can be fooled again, and there are not enough of them to make the difference. As if attacking his opponent would be the Obama strategy if he had a record to on.
I just saw on the news that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told Kentucky Republicans that President Barack Obama was "posing and preening" instead of working to resolve pressing issues facing the country.
"He is the most ill-prepared person to assume the presidency in my lifetime," Christie told some 600 Kentucky Republicans at a Lexington hotel. "This is a guy who literally is walking around in a dark room trying to find the light switch of leadership."
Christie was in Kentucky to deliver a pep talk to state GOP leaders. The state's presidential primary is Tuesday, though it will have no significant impact. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
In his remarks, Christie focused entirely on the general election, drawing a standing ovation for his biting remarks about Obama.
"He has sat in the Oval Office and cared more about posing and preening and making partisan politics the rule of the day in Washington D.C. than he's cared about progress," the New Jersey Republican, now in his third year in office, said of Obama.
Sure Mr Obama, keep your focus on Bain, and keep preening until your base completely disappears...
Romney could change the subject:
He could taut his accomplishments as Governor.
Job1 - you don't need those hundreds of websites. Use the federal statistics. What those websites are doing are working the statistics into dates and times to make the numbers look better. Then they emblesh those numbers by adjusting (stretching really) the meanings to improve what still are really weak numbers.
This illustration using really is damning on the administration because what really counts is workforce size. With our workforce being the smallest since 1981 despite over a 75 million person increase in our population. That is real bad.
Notice that the creator uses payroll, not the unemployment record. That is because the fed drops people off the unemployment rolls when they cannot collect benefits or quit looking for work.

Obama has a BA from Columbia. He might know that what the purpose of a business is, but that does not mean he understands how it works.
Romney with an MBA clearly understands it because under him Bain experienced an 80% successes rate with invested in companies becoming profitable and staying open.

This the same day Rubio illogically, given Obamas stand on Cuba for families, calls the President the most divisive person in modern history. Yeah, right. I rest my case. Obama/Biden 2012, for Sanity.
Good thing everything is great in NJ, otherwise Christie should be home taking care of state business and not auditioning for VP in Kentucky.
The country cannot be run like a business. Countries fail when forced to declare bankruptcy. Businesses like Bain can make a profit on a company that does. The one time leader in the Republican primary, Donald Trump, was a master of profiting from bankruptcy, leaving the workers holding an empty bag.
O. M. G! Can you even imagine what would have happened if McCain had to face what the President has?
Houston
No one knows, but probably the same net as what finally occured. GM still would have existed, and would have had to downsize about the same way. The difference is that instead of the Unions getting their unfunded pensions funded, those people who's 401k's were cut out by the Obama deal wouldn't have been hurt as bad.
What you don't seem to know is that Ford foresaw the fall of GM and quitely reworked it's supply chain into who had to be kept, who they wanted to keep and what they could do to keep their cars being produced when GM & Chrysler fell. Honda and Toyota got wind of it and joined in.
The reason you didn't know about it is because doing what Ford was doing, especially when Toyota and Honda joined in could have been seen by the fed as collusion to set prices, when they were only working to insure that they would survive a catastrophe.
What you are falling for is political positioning you to believe and do whatever they want you to believe and do.

It takes work to create wealth. Private equity is capital invested into people, equipment, and facilities to create wealth. Private equity's reward is a share of the wealth created, just as people working to create the wealth get a share of the wealth. It all works together. If you attack any one of these parts, the rest will not follow and you get the economy you deserve of high unemployment.
Houston
Ford has said many things about this.
First, they never needed the loans, but, they still had an interest in being involved because they were burning up the credit they had secured before everything went south. The extra credit would have been welcome to insure they got through.
Second The supply chain was another secondary concern. They had been already working for over a year to set up contingencies and changed suppliers to less vulnerable ones. Of course, I already elaborated on this in an earlier post.
jim post 1.43
First,
Ford, Chrysler, and GM have a holdback fee of 2% - 3% per vehicle sold payable to dealers at the end of a year. If the dealers don't exist at the end of the year, they don't pay this. This hold-back is why dealers can discount cars so much, because they usually will recieve the hold back amount at the end of the year.
Second.
There is a certain amount of cost involving franchisee training and support. Eliminate the dealers that aren't selling enough cars while knowing the loyal people will go to the next closest dealer works to a pretty surprising cost savings for the parent company.

You must have missed the sermon or sunday school class on the man paying laborers for their work during harvest. The landowner went out in the morning and hire a group of laborers to work all day for a certain sum of money. The landowner also at noon and the third hour and the last hour did the same, hiring each group for the exact same sum of money.
Don't set yourself up as a judge of what is fair, for as the day went on obviously the additional help became worth the premium amount to the person who hired the laborers. No matter what a wealthy man does, their will be those that hate him so much, that he can do nothing right in their eyes. If he gives in to the apathetic hate, he isn't going to hire anyone and no one will get anything.

for 16 years (through 2006) Obama's promoter was selling Obama books as "born in Kenya, raised in Hawaii and Indonesia . . .
Last year Obama produces a Hawaian Birth Certificate.
Obama was for same sex Marriages (2006) until he was against it (2008) and now is for same sex marriages.
Which is the real Obama? My score card is getting holes in it form erasing (correcting?) his stances.

GM had at least a 90 - 120 day or 3-4 month supply on most vehicles. To retool a plan for cars 3 - 4 months by converting existing unused lines or plants. Seems to me there is only two shifts on most plants, so one more shift would mean a 33% increase in production. Besides Ford wouldn't have gotten all the new sales. Lots would have gone to toyota, honda, and many other makers.
Where did Obama gain experience about economy before he became President?, for that matter any governing experience.
@fielden - The reason to have a business is to make a profit by providing a good or service. You don't provide the good or service without the goal of making a profit. If you provide it without the goal of making a profit, then you are headed to bankruptcy really fast.
@ Jonathan #1.65,
A lot of words from you, but you still missed the focus of my post. Less competition means more opportunities for a company like Ford to grow and be profitable. Do not assume you know what my assumptions are at any point in time. That is totally disingenuos on your part.
@Nerm #1.72,
Normally, when someone like you makes an around-the-world argument like yours it leads to some conclusion "supporting their belief". Your argument contradicts your belief. To put it into simple words for you, businesses that fail to make profits go "out of business". You pretty much said the same thing. Solyndra was a failure because they did NOT make a profit, they are out of business, and presumably, no one works for them anymore. Do the math, sustained employment = 0.
@DBAkron #1.93,
Since part of my employer involves ownership of a successful Ford franchise, I am fully aware of "holdback" and its purposes. Holdback is paid quarterly and not at the end of the year as you claim. One of the primary purposes of holdback is to allow for easy transfers of vehicles to and from other dealerships, allowing franchises who order vehicles and hold them for a period of time (thus incurring interest charges during the holding period) to still make "some profit" when those vehicles are then transferred to another dealership for a customer. I have never heard that holdback will not be paid if a franchise were to go out of business.
On your second point, you slyly slip in the phrase "... while knowing the loyal people will go to the next closest dealer ..." is an ASSUMPTION on your part. People tend to buy vehicles from a franchise near to home or near to work. When "nearness" can become inconvenient, I doubt you could successfully assume "loyalty"
@jim-1455434 -- The national priority for this election is creating JOBS - not creating profits.
There is no universal law that requires a business to make a profit. Arguing that profits are more important than JOBS does not make it so. Arguing that profits create jobs relying on magic and fairy tales does not make it so.
The middle class needs JOBS. The middle class needs INCOME that will support a middle class lifestyle. That is the priority - that is what we should expect government to do.
Does not matter if they are government jobs, private jobs, Chinese jobs - the middle class needs JOBS.
Even a short term job is better than no job. Even a part time job is better than no job.
Don't piss on my shoe and tell me that rising tides lift all boats.
WHAT HAS PROFITS DONE FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS LATELY?????
Nerm, Nerm, Nerm,
You obviously have never had a course in basic business or accounting. Businesses that cannot sustain profits (a.k.a. "Retained Earnings") tend to go "OUT OF BUSINESS" when times get tough, they are losing money and they have nothing to fall back upon. When a business fails and goes "OUT OF BUSINESS", how many still have jobs ???
"WHAT HAS PROFITS DONE FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS LATELY?????" It has given them JOBS. In the long run, NO PROFITS=NO JOBS. People simply do not start up businesses for the purposes of losing their shirt in a failed endeavor.
I suggest YOU "Don't piss directly into a stiff wind". With your logic, I am sure you will go out and try to prove me wrong and "let it go" into the stiffest breeze you can face. Take along a towel !
@jim-1455434 -- A business is required to pay its bills - to stay in business. That is the only requirement. There is no universal economic requirement that a business generate profits.
That is why our own tax code has special provisions for non-profit businesses. Goodwill Industries is an example. Goodwill is NOT a charity - it is a 'not for profit' business. And Goodwill creates jobs - without creating those profits.
Profits do not create jobs - and cannot. Profit is money generated above costs. Profit is derived by creating as few jobs as possible. Profit is derived by paying workers the least possible wage.
There is no shortage of profits in our economy - there is a shortage of jobs - there is a shortage of middle class income. If profits created jobs and increased wages - where are they?
HOW MANY JOBS HAS PROFITS CREATED FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS LATELY?????
DB is certainly on his soapbox. All of you must realize that he considers him the world's foremost authority on EVERYTHING and he is simply educating you misguided folks. Appreciate him, he desperately seeks your approval.
Kim
approval sought - Not!
Jim my oops. I should have said up to one year. Most make a payment on the quarters sales once a quarter as you said, but if the car isn't sold, the money is held until the end of the year.
Sorry, DB Akron....that is simply not true. Holdback is a form of "cost reduction". At our dealership, holdback is a scheduled account and we track to make sure we get paid. It is a payment for ordering and holding the vehicle.
Perhaps, you are getting this mixed up with other types of incentives which can come into play.
If the answer to that question is any indication of how Team Obama is going to run his campaign...
Willard should pull up your magic underwear now & deal with it!
GAME ON!
I cannot wait for the debates!
*popcorn*?
IKR?
This campaign is entirely about Democrats learning from the hateful playbook and dishing it at them and then telling them they've been SERVED.
I can't tell you how many years I sat back and GROANED at my party for not fighting fire with fire. Now that the table is turned,...all we hear from the tighty righties is whine and sheesh!
It's about time we BROUGHT THE FIGHT TO THEM! Romney represents EVERYTHING about the failed policies that benefited the very wealthy and hurt everyone else.
I just hope they keep whining and playing checkers while the OBAMA Ground Game continues to play chess!
PS. Cory Booker needs to ACCEPT that the divisiveness comes from hate that is propulgated in the non stop 'news' cycle. It is not a weakness to fight back,...it is a survival skill and he'll need it when he runs against Governor Krispy Kreme next year for Governor!
HOLLA GF!
If they want to throw a punch, I'm gonna counter with a upper-cut!
Screw them & their POUTRAGE!
sorry, that should read promulgated,...ran out of time.
DAMN straight, GF (CHALLAH, as my daughter would say!)
Feisty/beisty:
Careful what you wish for.
carrot top, I understand popcorn is your euphemism for alcohol... you're gonna need it for the debates and so will Obama! I would advise against it though.... heavy drinking and depression is a very bad combination!
Bill T-
If you think Gaffes R-Money is going to win, I want assurances if he loses.
If Romney wins, I'll vote a pure (R) ticket for the next 4 years. If obama wins, you vote a pure (D) ticket.
Deal? gentleman's bet.
I'll put my money where my mouth is. Will you?
They've been playing hardball for some time now. Glad we finally got a bat.
Yes, and we are so glad that the President is using that bat.
Bill T, nope, Feisty really means popcorn and from Garrett Popcorn Shops in Chicago--excellent popcorn, too! Now if it was Speaker Boehner, that's another story.
I think that firebush has already had too much booze and popcorn. If he thinks that there's any way to justify running the debt up 60% in 4 years, he should move straight to LSD.
Jody: do you suppose that Bill has any reason to post here except his obsession with Feisty? The vulgarities he writes say more about him, and he is too foolish to know that.
Darn right Jody!
In my case, it's extra salty blend! ;o)
Using a bat for foul balls is not much of a use. He would be better off sticking with basketball. That and massive annual deficits are things Obama has mastered.
I was wondering the same thing NDD!
Poor Billy, just another right wing pet rock to add to my collection!
NDD, true, Bill T and his new buddy Concern Citizen spend their time following Feisty around; they have a case of green eyed monster-itis.
Feisty, that collection has to be taking up a lot of room by now.
Jody: I have noticed that too. Neither of them have a thing to say, both seem to worry excessively about what Feisty is writing. Very strange indeed.
Total cost of policies chart.
nytimes.com/imagepages/2011/07/24/opinion/sunday/24editorial_graph2.html
NDD,
At the rate things are going, I'm going to need a bigger storage space! ;o)
We better batten down the hatches - there's an ODS tsunami brewing around here!
Jaysus, no kidding. I tell you Feisty, it has to be in the water. Where do these people get these ideas?
By the time the debates roll around he could be frothing at the mouth.... Sure Mr Obama go ahead and focus on Bain the rest of the year. Romney will be focused on explaining how to fix the job situation and how you have manipuled the jobs data to make you look good. Kinda like what carrot top does with her makeup before she hits the truck stop circuit.
In the last year, the civilian population rose by 3,638,000. Yet the labor force only rose by 945,000. Those not in the labor force rose by 2,693,000.
In the last month, actual employment fell by 169,000, but the unemployment rate dropped by .1%!!!!
That is an amazing "achievement" to say the least!
How did Obama do this magic trick of moving unemployment from a high of 10 percent to 8.1 percent without adding, you know, jobs?
Well according to economists at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley say that those on Social Security Disability (SSDI) checks have risen by about 2.2 million.
People who qualify for SSDI are automatically excluded from the workforce, meaning that you can
actually have an economy losing jobs while technically the unemployment rate will go down as more people received disability benefits and are subtracted from the workforce.
Social Security Disability is a picture perfect program scam for the Obama administration. It allows Obama to say that unemployment is going down, while adding to the rolls of people who are dependent on some sort of Democrat-Party enabled government assistance.
Prior to these revelations, I had thought that the country’s workforce was shrinking because persistent joblessness was causing people to stop looking for work. In other words, I thought it was just another example of Obama’s economic incompetence.
I’m not ruling out incompetence completely, but when the administration has a vested interest in
allowing fraud to happen by turning a blind eye, they act like caravan stuck in a sand storm, especially if it adds more potential voters to the dole.
And what’s worse, the damage done to the economy by this type of fraud - and to the legitimately disabled who need the benefits- will take generation to fix.
Because, while joblessness can be reversed with some sensible economic policies, adding to the disability rolls creates permanent damage to the economy from which the country will not recover in generations.
Based on current trends, 7 percent of the nonelderly adult population could be receiving disability benefits by 2018, Richard Burkhauser and Mary Daly wrote in the spring issue of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. That’s two years after the SSDI program will run through its trust fund, according to
an April report by the Social Security trustees. (data culled from OMB by Heritage 2012)
So the Obama administration is using a program that is already insolvent for a kind of off-the-books loan.
I’d hate to see what another four years could bring...... yes keep on beating a dead horse Mr Obama!
Feisty - could we have the carmel corn/cheese mix? I really LOVE that one!
You do seem to attract the crazies - oh wait - I guess we all get our share of those!
Romney cannot hold a candle to Obama. The President will wipe the floor with him in the debates. Me thinks we should have a debate party here in Chicago!
Bill T - Romney could not articulate a plan if someone laid it out for him in REALLY BIG LETTERS and really small words! He's not capable!
the nasty red head is at it again! your hatred for anything GOP is rabid
I'm under the impression they pull them straight out of their ass!
Given how every right wing nitwit talking point as been tossed out here so far, (with the exception of 57 states), I would fathom to say, Bain will be a very effective tool during this campaign!
Their follicles are already on fire! lmao
Go tell it to the teleprompter Billy Boy!
Will you stop whining about your mother already...
It really is TMI!
Didn't hear anything from the Mitten's camp when when they were out doing Newt and Ricky 20 to 1 in negative ads. But that was the Minors. Now he's in the Major leagues and he's whining that he can't hit the pitching.
No Bain, No gain.
Bill T: if you really believe that the Obama administration has purposefully increased the number of people who are eligible for SSDI in order to reduce the unemployment numbers by 0.1% you need to loosen up the tin foil on your head. The rules for qualification make it VERY difficult to qualify.
The thing is that when someone qualifies for SSDI, they give up their right to SSI. You don't get to collect both. Effectively, you forgo the ability to collect Social Security in the future by receiving the disability benefits now. While the number (or %) of persons who collect SSDI may increase now, that means that the number (or %) of people on regular SS will be reduced.
Many of the people who are collecting SSDI chose to go onto the program because they had no choice. They either went for disability or freeze, starve and die. Prior to the Bush destruction of the economy, they were able to find work and get by. With the recession, employers have been able to get away with not hiring the disabled because there really are 10 better qualified persons available for every job.
I don't begrudge those who are disabled from the benefits of our society. It used to be that part of being the greatest society on the face of the earth is that we demonstrated our greatness by taking care of those who were most vulnerable: the poor, the elderly, the disabled. I guess the Republican Party no long must feel we are the greatest society on earth because they want shove these PEOPLE to the alley and the gutter to die.
Anybody who thinks that Romney will be able to hold a candle to Obama in the debates needs to put their crack pipe down. Romney can't think on his feet without making a fool out of himself. He will either pull a Sarah Palin and just refuse to answer any question he doesn't like or feels uncomfortable with (most of them) or he will just parrot whatever talking points his handlers went over with him during rehearsals.
'This is what this campaign is going to be about'
Of course it is. Did anyone really expect obama to campaign on acknowledging the 4 years spent pointing his finger, 4 years wasting trillions on Union payoffs and "Too big to fail" failures, 4 years of hypocrisy, 4 years of empty promises, 4 years of selling out America to foreign criminals, 4 years of divisive political rhetoric, etc...
Rev. Wright, Birther claims, et. al. are not distractions but the recent history of Mitt's record is off limits?
Mr. Obama: This campaign is going to be about your FAILED domestic and International agenda:
Stimulus #1, Omnibus, HAMP #1, #2. and #3, Cash for Clunkers, Cash for Appliances, Weatherization Program (part of Stimulus), Black Farmer Fraud, GSA Fraud, ICE Fraud, Solar Panel Companies (Solyndra, Abound, Beacon, First Solar), Electric Vehicle Companies (Hisker, Finland), Ener1 Battery Company, Geothermal Plant in Nevada, Fast and Furious, and those pesky countries North Korea, Iran, and Pakistan.
And here we are.....after the G-8 and NATO summits and guess what .....yep..... more stimulus spending, more American taxpayer dollars going to cover the "exit" strategy in Afghanistan, and more american taxpayer dollars going to the IMF for EuroPIIgs bailouts which will add to the debt.
How about asking Oprah and Rev Wright to appear on a campaign ad for you ? Nah, they are still in the street after being hit by your ObamaWagon.
Wait a minute....your campaign strategy is going after Romney's Governorship ? And that is IT ?
When you come out of Harvard and go to work as a community organizer and that work experience comes under scrutiny, it's fair game.
When your mother is white and your father is black the attacks on you are not about your white mother but about where your father comes from, which plays on the worst stain in American History is disgusting.
When your claim is he is not right for the jobs but has accomplished 95% of his campaign promises unlike the last President, your claim of him not being qualified is at least dismissive.
When the private sector has added jobs and those tea bag nut job governors continues at present date to lay off hundreds of thousands of government employees, mostly teachers - war on education. Your statements of President Obama fail is like saying President bush won the war period while holding up a WMD.
When your candidate admits he will end medicare, social security, housing assistance, food stamps for children, public assistance for the poor, fire teachers who are government workers, end research, close the FDA, EPA and FCC. But give the riches of our country who have had a net gain of 277% of the income of the last 20 years more tax cuts on top of the current bush tax cuts and will drive a big hole in the debt by 10.3 Trillion Dollars. Then you call him the best man for the job and the most conservative is the most craziest thought in American History.
Then the kickers is Romney's plan that will blow a big hole in the debt is some how better than President Obama's plan of getting people back to work. Some how firing people and cutting every program in America that helps the poor is some how better than the current trend of grown jobs.
CRAZY CRAZY.
Yes i understand no matter what the truth and logic is you hate President Obama no matter what.
My biggest fear if Romney wins is he and his army of thugs will loot the treasury .Then sell off the assets that the American people own ..that is his history in the business world !
so i come back to this article and I noticed a few post from both sides have either been deleted or collapsed...
here is my advice, if you are not mature enough to let others voice their opinions whether you agree with them or not then please do not collapse or delete any post what so ever..who the heck are you to decide on what is to be seen or not, who the heck are you to shape a discussion to meet your needs or feel you have some power to censure and individual because they are using their constitution right to say what the feel. do you honestly think that collapsing a post will stop people from reading it..what do have to hide by doing that? i
If you can not form a complete sentence with out an insult or some cute name for any candidate then please stop, learn to debate with maturity then come back to the fold...I have sacrificed enough so you have free speech so please do not hinder mine..so with that I will re post what has been magically disappeared once again
" so I guess President Obama forgot about the donations he took from Bain in 07' and in the first 3 quarters of 2011"

VH Navy,
This is an MSNBC article, and not a NewsVine article, so if it has been deleted, it was deleted by either Sally or Tyler, the two paid moderators who are employed by MSNBC to remove comments that violate the CoH or ban the creator of the comment if they have violated the CoH.
As for collapsing a comment, well no one individual has the ability to collapse a comment, regardless of whether it is on NewsVine or MSNBC. It requires a number of flags in order for the comment to be collapsed. Generally though, the two moderators have enough on their plate so they generally won't 'rescind' a comment collapse. On the NewsVine side, you can collapse an article, and the moderators can, and sometimes do rescind the collapse of an entire article.
Now based on that, there was no need for your comment regarding the maturity or lack thereof of posters in relation to the collapsing or deletion of comments.
Actually, according to many who were victimized by Romney and his bunch, It wasn't "Bain capital". They declare it was really "Bane capital" heavy on the bane and seldom a smidge of capital.
Which column the Solyndra experience go into? accomplishments or disasters?
Jonathan - you will have to excuse me but what is the CoH, I am assuming that is the code of honor..whether is was a MSNBC or a Newsvine article please explain to me how then the original comment i made was against the CoH....and to elaborate on that what are the guidelines for this CoH
sorry I didn't know there was a CoH, but i will call it as I see it and I am in my every right to make that comment that you feel that you need point out that I had no right to make
VH,
I have no idea about the CoH in relation to your comment, nor do I care. I was just stating the reality. Comments that are deleted on an MSNBC article can only be deleted via a moderator (either sally or tyler). No user has the ability to delete a comment. Comments can be collapsed if enough 'flags' are associated with that comment, I think it is 20, so if 20 DIFFERENT people flag the comment, it will be collapsed.
And did I say you didn't have the right to question the collapsing of a comment. I was commenting on the language which does NOTHING to help the discourse here. All it would do is inflame. So the first part was to tell you how comments get collapsed and/or deleted. The second part was about tone.
jon - if you are going to discus tone here, you might want to read a few of the above comments made by others then chastise them for their tones....don't ever talk to me about tone,
say hi to Sally or Tyler for me along with the 20 individuals who feel they have the right to censure people.
sorry if I feel i am coming down on you but i have an issue with what i have seen here and with other postings.
Jon, take it easy my man.
VH,
I have an issue with what I have been seeing on the vine and the recent downward spiral in general. I realize that it is frustrating to see your comments being collapsed, but the reality is that no one person is responsible for it. It takes many people to do it. So you may have 5000 people reading the comments but it only takes 20 to flag it and boom, it gets collapsed. That goes for any comment.
As for Sally or Tyler deleting comments, they only do so when there is a CoH violation, and you would get an email indicating that OR if the person that made it was banned and that person didn't have a long track record (that is what could be called collateral damage). That is just how it is. I don't have any control over it, you don't have any control over it, nobody does. (I am not even aware if the moderators even have the ability to 'uncollapse' a comment to be honest).
The fact is that First Read is not monitored in the sense that Newsvine is. Deleted comments are generally because they are advertising or from re regs, rarely anything else.
Collapsed comments can still be opened, read and voted for, and it might help you to know VH Navy, that collapsed comments tend to get more votes than if they had been left alone. People still read them.
That framed it well Mr. President. Mr. Romney, Making money for YOUR investors does little to build the economy if you make money at the cost of people's livelihoods and pensions.
Perhaps Mitt should follow the Solyndra model .... lose jobs AND lose money in the process ! Oh hell, what am I thinking ? They didn't lose THEIR money ... they lost GOVERNMENT money !! Then they gave bonuses to those that had "earned" them !
By the way genius, the Governor of New Jersey is on record talking about how pension funds had money invested in Bain Capital ! LOL !!
"Apparently we should be more upset about what Romney does with his money than what 0bama does with our money"
Nah Jim.
He should do it how Bush 43 does it.
Lose Jobs, Lose Money, Crash an Economy AND Lose American Lives in the process.
Except the Bain money was not Romney's money. It was Bain's investors' money. And, indirectly, it was our money.
Did Bain send the tax man around to get money from you to invest? NO? then STFU
Yes, the NJ pension funds did invest in lots of places, some riskier than others, and they lost their shirts. I might point out that public employees had no say in this. It didn't help that Christine Todd Whitman robbed the pension funds. She said she would return them and never did. She used the cash to give the taxpayers an unpaid for tax break. Then she said everyone should reelect her because of the tax breaks that were given on the backs of retirees. Wow, what a crook. I am glad I don't live there!

Obama has been in charge for 3 1/2 years. when are you going to stop blaming Bush?
Nice, Elliot, real nice. Not.
Obama has been in charge for 3 1/2 years. when are you going to stop blaming Bush?
Duane -
The Bush administration's actions will be negatively effecting the next two or three presidents. Not just the current one...
While you Republican-bashing libbies are attacking Romney for Bain Capital, maybe you could explain what jon Corzine (Obama's buddy and former advisor) did with the billions that were mysteriously lost ! Wasn't he a top Obama financial advisor ?
"SHOW ME THE MONEY" .... OR AT LEAST A MONEY TRAIL WE CAN INVESTIGATE !
"SHOW ME THE MONEY" .... OR AT LEAST A MONEY TRAIL WE CAN INVESTIGATE !
jim - "Show us the money" You explain what Corzine did. You're making the accusation, you show us the facts. What your giving us now is just right wing spin.....
Obama/Biden -2012
Been asleep for awhile there GT ? It has been in the news. I believe the FBI is investigating. The disingenuos bs line from you "show us the facts" is a bit premature. It is sad, however, that Corzine, a Democrat, is acting like he doesn't know what happened.
Google is your friend GT ..... learn how to use it.
Jim - Not questioning Corzine's actions. I am questioning how you tie Obama into it.
LMAO! Obama framed it well? Interesting on how obamas view of bain is now one of being the cause behind our own slow economic growth. By november he will have once again deflected the argument from restructuring our economy for growth to once again blaming the right for no growth and his rhetoric without action.
You go obama, girly girl. Tell all those having given up looking for jobs that bain capital took away all those jobs since 2007... LOL!
I found it interseting also that obama likened bain as being a wealth creator by seeking profits yet made the statement that governments shouldn't be looking for profits. At least that explains why our public debt keeps on growing. The thing is government does need to be concerned about profits and for promoting them. Without "profit" Obama is throwing our elderly, disabled and poor under the bus.
The narrowminded FR lefties think profits are only about $$$ earned by the wealthy and business, Yet profits entail much more than just cash, but cash is what makes government possible. There is not one individual that draws a government payroll check that doesn't owe that check to the private sector for making that paycheck possible. If the left wants to throw away cash on paying our mounting debt interest and unsustainable spending programs, so be it. The next recession will point to obamas administration as being its root cause through inaction and excuses.

I still see people talk about Bush years!!!!!, HELLO Bush is not running for office now!!!!!
Let's move on..., let's look at both candidates experiece and record, ready???
I actually listened to the press conference this afternoon. The reporter asked: "Yes, thank you, Mr. President. Yesterday, your friend and ally, Corey Booker, said in an ad that your campaign released was nauseating. And it alleged that Romney at Bain Capital was “responsible for job losses at a Kansas City steel mill.” Is that your view that Romney is personally responsible for those job losses?"
Obama's answer was about five minutes of squirming and platitudes to avoid answering the question at all. Not, as reported by MSNBC, "full-throated defense of his campaign's scrutiny of Mitt Romney's private sector career"
The liberal media bias is quickly slipping from mere spin, to outright distortion.
@Kannin
Facts...shamacts....who cares about them. What matters to MSNBC and other self-admitted progressive media giants....is the re-election of Obama. It doesn't matter that he can't run on his record as the POTUS or his failings therein. This is why he won't get re-elected again.
Any incumbent POTUS, Democrat or Republican, should be able to run and win on what they accomplished. If they can't, it is the same as admitting failure. Obama's campaign strategy speaks volumes to his team's lack of confidence in what he is 'proud of accomplishing' during his first term.....nothing. Otherwise, he would stand on the top of a mountain shouting about how great his policies are/were.
I have yet to see an ad touting anything of the sort. I'd like to see a full blown ad or two about how great the stimulus' have been (unemployment STILL above 8% 3 1/2 years later)...how fantastic Obamacare is....how important it is to bow to a Saudi king.
I didn't think so...therefore I will be voting him out.
Bain is absolutely the centerpiece of this election. It's all about whether we want a president who destroys small companies, putting thousands out of work, to increase the profits of the rich. Do we want a president who lies to be on the side of every poll? Do we want a president who "likes to fire people"? Do we want a president who showed early on that he is a bully who would beat up, hold down and savagely cut a boys hair because he thought the boy might be gay? Romney can change his stated positions to match every new poll that comes out, but we all know exactly who and what he is, and good American does not describe it. Vote every Republican out of office. Give President Obama a clear mandate and the ability to accomplish his goals. We gave the Republicans a free hand for 8 years and look where it got us and the world. I'm an Independent voter, and I will vote against the Republicans in every national and local election in the forseeable future to give them a clear reminder that they were elected to represent the American people, not just the rich ones.
@Ed McT....
Unfortunately, you are not the independent you claim to be. That is either a blatant lie....or....you have no idea what the meaning of the word is. Furthermore, if you do in fact know what it means...then you are most certainly a hypocrite.
Since you are clearly unaware of the facts, I'll enlighten you.
"If we look merely at what's been reported so far, it seems possible Bain businesses added more jobs than they lost — especially if you offer full credit for every job added since Bain first touched a company, whether it's still involved or not."
A source you liberals LOVE to qoute: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/jan/09/mitt-romneys-job-creator-claim-falters-bain-capita/
"Do we want a president who lies to be on the side of every poll?" - You mean like every other POTUS before him. Let's take your saint-in-chief for example... "I'm going to ensure that the healthcare debate is broadcast on CSPAN."...."I'm going to close Guantanamo."...."I'm going to repeal the Bush tax cuts for the rich."....etc...etc...etc
Again...a lib fav: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/rulings/promise-broken/
"Do we want a president who showed early on that he is a bully who would beat up, hold down and savagely cut a boys hair because he thought the boy might be gay?" - Ahhh....so your prerequisite is that a POTUS be perfect. I've personally never met anyone who is and I doubt I ever will. But while we're on the subject of perfection for a POTUS. Didn't Obama admit to doing drugs? Yeah....that's what I thought...hypocrite.
"but we all know exactly who and what he is, and good American does not describe it." - Really??!! I'll give you a pass on that one since you obviously don't do your own research like a 'good Independent voter'. When he inherited his fathers wealth, he donated it in its' entirety, to charity. Sounds like the act of a depraved villan huh?
"Vote every Republican out of office." - Spoken like a true "Independent voter". ROFL!!!!!!!!
"We gave the Republicans a free hand for 8 years and look where it got us and the world." - Not entirely true is it? There was a Republican POTUS for 8 years. The first 7 of which the economy rocketed up. Only in the last year, did it tank....under a democrat let congress. Oh...minor detail...but they are the one responsible for oversight of things like banks. Forgot to mention that, huh?
The bottom line is that you aren't Independent at all. However, you are clearly a hypocrite for not holding your Dem party to the same exacting standard you hold the repubs to. If you are just jealous of rich people, just say so. At least then you will have some shred of credibility. :)
While the Obama folks were running ads calling Bain private equity "vampires" for closing GST steel (1 of a dozen steel plants to close because of cheap China import steel... thanks to Clinton). Obama was at a party with Tony James the CEO of Blackstone private equity holdings. Blackstone is much larger than Bain and has closed several plants for example: Birds eye from Fulton, Wisconsin. And ohh yea Romney did not work at Bain at the time of the GST closing.
Or do it like obama did
Lose more jobs, Lose more money, Crash an Economy ever farther AND Lose more American Lives in the process.
obama certainly nailed that one on the head. He has done nothing positive in his presidency so he may as well attack things that his opponent has done.
"If I can't brag about my accomplishments I have to try to negate my opponents' accomplishments."
Well the do as I say not as I do Obama supporters are out in full regalia. Sounding more and more like the Obama supporters want socialism, as they are now bashing investments that do not produce jobs and retirement benefits. But only those investments where Republicans were involved. This is one of those issues that crosses all party lines, and there countless examples. But here is the part everyone ignores, nothing about Bain was illegal, just the results now bother Obama supporters because it was a Republican as CEO. Even if the facts fail to support most of the claims being made against Bain.
Well liberal Obama mouth pieces, explain who got hurt from these actions. Who got hurt when the Obama administration closed hundreds of car dealerships? Who got hurt in the failure of the Obama backed Solyndra? Who got hurt when the Keystone Pipeline was rejected by Obama? There are numerous other examples. You Obama supporters want cradle to grave government, no risk employment, no risk retirement, and yet our country is flat broke. How far do suppose an Obama IOU will get you?
Who got hurt when the entire shoe and garment industries moved overseas? Who got hurt when then President Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law and millions for jobs left the United States? Who got hurt when the steel industry in the United States could not compete with cheap government subsidized imports from China? This is nothing more then liberal Obama supporters trying to find anything to distract the nation from a failed first term. If Obama had a record to run on, he would.
"This is what the election's going to be about."
Translation - Please ignore what I've done the last three and a half years....
The only person running for President that is not qualified to be President is the President.
What a sick world we live in when we give the crazies power.
Ahhhhh....so NOW I get it....this election simply must be "about" Mitt Romney's time at Bain Capital....why oh why would the election need to be about anything else ??? I guess there's nothing else that even needs to be discussed. Just Bain....Bain all the time. Bain...right around the clock, non-stop. Bain. Bain. Bain.
Sorry folks, but this president is a jerk.
It would be extremely refreshing to have candidates that run on their accomplishments and experience. Many of us are STILL waiting for that Hope and Change. Transparency? Well, a few things are very transparent....
Republicans promised JOB, JOBS, JOBS for the 2010 midterm, and after gaining control of the House, what did they do, give America the middle finger while saying once again..."STUPID SUCKERS!!! So now that unemployment is down in 2/3 of the US they turn the page and now want to cry wolf over the debt and deficit.
Obama 2012
So they "promised jobs" in 2010 and you say "unemployment is down"...are you saying that "Republicans" delivered what they had promised for "2/3 of the US" ???
And there is no new "page" here...some in Washington DC have been screaming about the national debt for the last few years. The President thought the debt important enough that he appointed the 'Simpson-Bowles' debt commission to report on what needed to be done to start dealing with the debt...and when they issued their comprehensive report, it was completely ignored by the guy who'd asked for it.
The people serving on that debt commission were the "stupid suckers"...they put a boatload of their time into doing the research, writing the report, and coming up with a plan...and the President didn't give their work two minutes of his time.
Bain is relevant. Totally. The question is not what Bain did, but how Mitt got to run it.
Romney is an example of everything that is wrong with America today. A sniveling little rich kid uses his dad's money and influence to stay on top and push the REAL WORKERS further down the economic ladder. That is WRONG and against EVERYTHING AMERICA STANDS FOR. We need a 100% sniveling little rich kid tax on every estate over a million dollars. OK, some consideration for family businesses and farms, but THAT'S IT. If you are a son of a wealthy industrialist, you would still start out with a SUBSTANTIAL HEAD START, but at least it would be reasonable. I can catch up with someone with a million dollars but these DISGUSTINGLY RICH JERKS LIKE ROMNEY MAKE ME SICK! I though we OVERTHREW THE MONARCHY IN 1776!!!
Yes, liberals, he must remain on the attack, avoid hard questions, and continue to dodge and create distractions, because he damn sure can't run on hs record.
Ron in Seattle, I am guessing you aren't old enough to remember Schoolhouse Rock on Saturday morning cartoons (How a bill becomes a law) because you don't seem to know how our government works. The house by itself can do very little, and the Democratic controlled Senate makes sure they get almost nothing done. The house passed a budget that would have enacted spending cuts to the deficit, but the senate shelved it without a vote or any debate. The house has passed many pieces of legislation, each being scuttled by the Senate. The Senate (who is by law required to pass a budget each year) has not had a budget for over three years now!
The government works as a three-legged stool requiring the house, senate, and white house to work together to get anything done. When the democrats had the power in all three "legs" of the stool, they passed massive spending and rammed through Obamacare. Now that the republicans have control of the house, rather than deciding to work with them, the president has merely decided to run the country by executive order (smugly embracing the "we can't wait" campaign).
What's the answer? A republican contolled house, senate, and white house will cut social spending, cut taxes, and get the private sector moving again (which will create thousands and thousands of jobs). Mr Obama's administration could not have laid out a better "anti-growth" strategy than they have executed the last three years, and they count everyday on the stupidity of the American people to vote based on who is the most charming.
what legislation has the house passed that would have created jobs if the Senate were to pass it?
The anti abortion legislation?
The remove Planned Parenthood funding?
The bill that would have allowed existing power plants to pump more mercury into the air?
The bill that would have overturned legislation that didn't even really take effect for 3 years?
Please explain.
The REASON why the Senate blocks the legislation coming from the house is that the toilet paper in the congressional @!$%#ters has more value than the legislation coming from the house. It has more value because it doesn't cause paper cuts to wipe your arse with it. (Maybe the house should change the paper it uses to print its bills)
@Bruce-308647
While I see the point you are trying to make, and remember Schoolhouse Rock, it appears you may have slept through civics class. Your explaination seems to be discussing the three branches of government, which is not as you've "explained." The house and senate together as the legislative branch are one leg of the stool, and the judicial is the third leg. Which explains why the Supreme Court is preparing to rule on Obamacare, and why they have the power to overturn it.
While your point is reasonably well made, your explanation implies a misunderstanding of how government works as well. If you intend to criticize someone else's understanding of government, it falls upon you to provide a rebuttal that does not also appear to demonstrate a misunderstanding.
I think that is about right...this campaign should be about Bain Capitol...not about your record Mr. President...It should be about Bain, not what you are going to do for this country or the people in it...It should be about Bain...I'm glad to see that he is running a positive campaign, because to talk about what he has done for this country, or is going to do to this country would just be negative...
Mark...
Perfectly summed up !
No, Dave, I DO understand the three branches (Legislative, Executive, and Judicial) and how the balance of power is supposed to work. You'll notice I did not use the word "branches" in my post because that's not what I was talking about. I got an A in civics... For a bill to become a law, it must be passed by the House and then Senate, then the two bills must be reconciled (if different) and then signed by the president. (If these three "legs" cannot work together, then legislation doesn't get passed.)
The judicial branch comes into play if the legislation that is passed comes under constitutional question, as in the case of the far over-reaching Obamacare legislation.
I hate it when I say EXACTLY what I mean and then people tell me what I really meant, and that what I really meant was wrong.
Many of President Obama's own supporters are critical of his "Bain Capital" remarks...so let's look at the facts without bias.
President Obama stepped in and bought a struggling company, headed for bankruptcy with tax payer money...and after considerable restructuring and job losses (dealership closings, union concessions) turned that business around to where is it now profitable...may now be able to grow and add jobs...and in the future the tax payers may get their money back (we're still owed tens of billions)...that company is General Motors!
That is pretty much what "Bain Capital" did (and does) except that Bain does not use tax payer money!
No one likes seeing people lose their jobs...(just talk to those who used to have jobs at GM Dealerships) but in the case of a dying company something has to be done in order to make the company a viable business! The number of GM dealerships had to be cut down...people lost jobs in order to save the jobs of those in the surviving company...and that was approved by President Obama!
We live in a global economy...we compete with Toyota (and others) or we disappear!
Good point Kenn... But the biggest difference is that Obama saved union jobs while cutting a lot of white collar jobs, which gets him praise with his constituency. Bottom line is, a lot of people are so wrapped up in Obama that they are completely unable to see the man with ANY sense of objectivity. People who have held strong beliefs about traditional marriage for all their lives have suddenly abandoned them because "the one" told them it was his preference. It's become a personality cult with no grounding in reality.
Bruce.
UHHHH!!!!!
Obama hasn't created or destroyed any jobs. (yes I know that goes against the political rhetoric, but that is the reality). So Obama didn't save union jobs, the saving of GM saved a company that creates economic activity for the country which the country could NOT afford to lose. That some (not all, not even the majority) of those jobs happened to be Union jobs is not relevant (what are union workers not americans anymore, deserving of consideration by the elected officials that they vote for anymore).
For those that have strong beliefs about marriage, nobody is forcing them to marry someone of the same sex. The issue with it is that because marriage is as much a state function (so many laws are written that consider marriage), that defining marriage in the context of someones religious beliefs is actually a constitutional violation, and not of equality, but just flat out a first amendment violation.
The same people who say Obama hasn't created or destroyed jobs said just the opposite of Bush. It depends on how far left you lean.
Liberals can only attack with talking points from drinking the koolaid. They can't run on their record, it's too bad.
Funny but Obama himself loves to talk about how many jobs he's "created or saved". Of course, there is NO WAY to verify any of their numbers and they know that, just as there is no way to know how many employers quit hiring because of the increased regulations thrust upon them by this administration.
Obama has certainly created government jobs. We KNOW that (government has expanded considerably under his watch). But unfortuneately, these salaries are all paid for through debt or from the taxes of other citizens, whereas private sector salaries are paid for from people buying goods or services (i.e. value is being added).
Funny, I thought I qualified my statement with this:
At the end of the day Romney will be vented out. But just remember that Mayor Booker blamed both campaign.
I believe that this time President Obama will be vented out fully and we will all be surprised.
"vented out"? We inventing language today?
Careful, this one claims to speak Latin... lmao!
Hope it's better then her English!
Since Latin is the foundation of many languages, including English, one would have to dismiss that as pretty far fetched. Unless she had one semester in high school, and failed at it.
Let's see, "vented out" to Concern Citizen must be like "filp" flop--some new conservative jargon.
Are we venting something now? Did I miss that entire discussion? Oh darn.....
Bain gained obscene profits by unfairly firing hard-working people, thus the record proves Romney the Barber can't help out with the unemployment problem.
"VENT OUT"
She'd like to exercise her 2nd Amendment Rights evidently....
unfortunately, with spelling & comprehension issues, she can't get past the 1st .
We liberals should save this as a future talking point.....
after November there's going to be a whole mess of conservatives
VENTING OUT
Hopefully there won't be any venting out after any meals of beans & weenies..... :-)
When, on the rare occasion, that I am accused of having "vented out" I will always apologize to anyone close by.
To Beisty and her court of fools:
You are hanging your prejudice and stupidity for all to see what you are really like. Hey I got my point across and you can make as much fund as I make of your stupidity by trying to belittle me.
"you can make as much fund as I make of your stupidity by trying to belittle me."
Dear God, I don't even know where to START with that mess of a sentence.
How do I make this simple enough for "Concern Citizen"?
No, you poor soul. We don't have to "make fund" of you to try to belittle you. All we have to do is sit back and watch people try to decode what you write.
LEARN TO WRITE A SENTENCE!
newday,
lol, based on that username, one can surmise that you are a rereg that has previously been banned. Enjoy your short time back on the vine.
Really Jonathon? Using the word "RETURNED" automatically means banned re-reg?
Then report it. Laughter is always good for the soul.
naw, I am too lazy to bother reporting anything. People have hurled direct insults and death threats on me in here and the moderators don't do @!$%#e. So I just can't be bothered for something so minor. If you are a rereg, it will come around and bite ya, if not, no harm.
If you are so interested in COH violations, you must know that accusing others of being a banned re reg with no evidence is a COH violation.
I use "RETURNED" in my name as a matter of honesty. I left the 'vine for a time (having nothing to do with being banned, my own decision) and I wanted to be clear who I was when I "RETURNED". That you would accuse me of dishonesty is ironic in the extreme.
You may apologize.
yeah yeah, whatever. Report away.
Yeah, I thought so. Make an unfounded accusation, and all of a sudden (yawn) it just isn't important any more.
You were wrong, you owe an apology.
NDD... I think Jonathan is practicing up using Rovian p00p slinging fundamentals...
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney can't have this both ways. If he wants to present himself as super hero businessman, he had better understand that people are going to look at the mess he made out of people's lives to make money for his investors. Middle class and working class people lost jobs when Mittens was prowling around looking for a fast buck.
The REAL problem is that Mittens believes that he is owed the Presidency because he and Annie want it to be their new, shiny toy. And because (according to Annie) "it is their turn now" everyone should simply step out of their way.
How dare the "little people" question their betters, right Mittens?
Here is a hint: A vulture capitalist has NO experience that is relevant to the Presidency. The Federal Government is not a business, and no matter what the "teabagger" think, cannot be run as though it were. There are also all those pesky foreign countries that Mittens will have to deal with. You think Bush, was a disaster? Vote for Mitty and find out what disaster is.
To:newdayDAWNING...RETURNED who wrote:
And what experience did our President have. community organizer? Please give me a brake, he was not even a governor, just a junior senator.
Is English your second language? Or are you the typical undereducated "teabagger"? Go back, re read what you wrote and fix it.
Your President was a Constitutional Law Prof, and served as a legislator and Senator. Romney is a failed Governor.
Now. Do learn to write.
Obama was not a Constitutiaonal law professor as he claims. He was a Senior lecturer who evolved into a professor.
NewDawn.........
Your president taught Constitutional LAw but never passed the bar. A legislator? What legislation did he author. Law Review.. He got that on the race card and affirmative action so why not come up with something better next time before your bias exposes your ignorance.
Always voting "present" does make you a Senator. It makes a you a government employee with benefits.
Well lets see, the president has been a practicing civil rights lawyer, a state senator and a senator. Community organizer? Yes, he helped Clinton get reelected as well. I'm pretty sure that you have to pass the bar in order to practice as a lawyer. Rocco, did you even read what you wrote? You make no sense at all. Rocco and proudamericanveteran are playing the race card in reverse. Bigots, the two of you? You are trying to tell us that the president could not possibly achieved all of this under the thin veil of racism.
NDD, well said.
Does Barack Obama still have a license to practice law or has that been surrendered ?
OK Wayne. He didn't evolve into a professor. He flat out lied saying he was a Constitutional Law Professor when he carried the title of Senior Lecturer. Better now?
Your President passed the Bar in 1991. As to the rest of your nonsense proudamerican...turn off Fox News. You know nothing about admissions to law school, particularly Harvard Law to have written what you wrote.
Rocco, cut the jazz. You hate him because of his race. You cannot believe that a black man can accomplish what he has. I pity you. Jim, why would he surrender his license to practice law? How do you get such ignorant ideas into your head? Wow, just be honest the two of you and head out to that clan meeting tonight.
I quick look at Romney's tax returns shows he's a pretty good businessman.
Except, Rocco, the University of Chicago says he was a professor. What bothers you the most about that...that he is black or that he is a Democrat?
NDD, it's both. He is a bigot and proud of his pitiful party.
Let's see if we can set the record straight. Our President was a civil rights lawyer; and taught Constitutional Law. He and Michelle both put their law licenses on "inactive" since they would not be using them for 8 years. In order to keep a law license active you must take continuing education; pay malpractice insurance; etc., which was not possible/necessary for the time being. Now do we all understand?
tunanut - amazing since he hasn't released them yet!
Sheish - the far right are ignorant dolts!
Has to be exactly that, Wayne. I have never seen anything like this.
Thanks Seeking Sanity. Wow, your name is perfect. Those other two? PT Barnum was right. "Never underestimate the ignorance of the American public."
NDD, that kind of hatred should have been history 50 years ago. Some people never learn. Some people don't want to learn. They take pride in their ignorance. This is what holds out country back.
Their statements give "conservatism" a whole new slant, eh? Their brand of thinking went out in the 1860's.
Well, conservatives do hate change Wayne. But when I read some of this, and it is so farfetched and easily verified, I wind up wondering how these people get through the day without a keeper.
Wayne - as I've learned, no matter how much you seek, there is no sanity to be found in the GOP!
Oh boy, quess we better see that obama resigns as CEO. He seems to have convinced his worshippers that his resume wasn't quite truthful. Why just the other day yahoo's CEO was booted out and a CIO at the london JPM was forced to retire because of discrepancies.
Why is it only the FR left are the ones playing the race card? Poor self image?
I stand with New Day. Facts trump the nonsense from the Hannity Show any day, any time, any weather.
Folks: Your President is well qualified and can stand on his record this election, and win.
The only thing I expect from Romney is more Bush horror year madness. No thanks.
Thanks, upset! See you on another thread, another day!
A community organizer is the PERFECT BACKGROUND for a president. What more important job can he do than organize the country into a functional society? Having been GIVEN MONEY from your RICH DAD and using his POLITICAL CONNECTIONS to make yourself rich and have NO CONSIDERATION for the WORKING MAN is a HORRIBLE BACKGROUND for anyone but a RICH SOCIALITE. Ronmey's background is a great one for a KING but a terrible one for a PRESIDENT!
Now I understand and why oh why would I be shocked to learn that being an urban community organizer has morphed into what is now to be considered as the "PERFECT" training for the US presidency !!!
Amazing how that happened and so very insightful too !
I'm with you Upset...
Not so amazing. Jan of this year he released them, where you been?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/romney-2010-tax-return.html
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/romney-2011-estimated-1040.html
Looks like he makes about 20 million a year, pretty darn impressive in my book, but I'm not the jealous type.
obama is just such a low-life ba$tard. High unemployment. Soon headed to 17 trillion in debt, failed foreign polices and economic polices, surrendering in Afghanistan but ... if we allow gay marriage everything will be better.
Of course we should expect this. Obama has done nothing on his own except play the race card and affirmative action. What a pathetic excuse for a human being let alone a President.
Mr. Smear certainly does not want to talk about the economy. Three and a half years in office and he still does not know what the job is about. How can he lecture others.
The Chaplain just told me:
"You can not argue with bigots."
sandy-1851937 - proudamericanveteran is probably not a veteran at all.
He doesn't sound like a veteran. Men in uniform are taught to exercise more discipline and restraint.
Obama is an extreme embarrassment to this country. While Romney's work at Bain resulted in a net positive for society, Obama's presidency has been a net negative.
Jeff: Pray tell me what on earth gives you the impression that the president is an embarrassment to this country. I hate to burst your bubble but America is looked upon a lot more favorable since the president took office. Name me one leader of another country that believes the president is an embarrassment.
Bush, on the other hand was considered a joke. Remember the headlines in the English newspapers when Bush got re-elected. It was "How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?".
Lets see, the French do not trust him, the British do not trust him. The Russians and the Chinese love him. The Poles and the Checzh feel betrayed by him. Tell me who looks positively on him?
Read the stories in LeMonde, Der Spiegel, Tass, and Pravda. The Russians think he running a "reality show."
yeah ramboet lol! he insults the french president by accident, insults isreali pres by accident, china avoids him ,korea sends missles into the oceans, iran laughs at him, russia takes advantager of him, and canada cant stand hiom because of his keystone backstab.
whats the first thing he does?! visits the new socialist prez of france privately before the g8 meeting.
WHAT A DOPE THIS COMMUNIST PRESIDENT IS!! BYE OBUMMER! you stink!!!
How about YOU post the stories, or at minimum the links to the stories in LeMonde, DerSpiegel, Tass and Pravda, that is if you are not just making it all up. I didn't find anything supporting your contentions in any of them.
Personally, I believe you are simply repeating the tea/RNC-fox/limbaugh un-true and un-founded talking points.
The French, British, Spanish, Swedes, Danes, Aussies, Chinese, Isrealis, Canadians, all love President Obama and have great respect for him. Iran hates him because he takes a firm stand with them.
Since we don't have a Communist President I can only assume you (rightisright) live outside the US?
Seeking sanity - better review recent history, more than one european politician has told obama and company to stay away from the european economy until he gets the American economy humming with his own ideas. Heck even congressional democrats have voted down many of obamas economic ideas. You do realize that the congressional record keeps track of voting margins don't you?
Then we have the recent (past weekend) G-8 and NATO summit with obama begging for afghan support. Then not to long ago wasn't there a conference concerning latin american affairs? That's right, it only made the news because the secret service couldn't keep it in their pants or even pay a "fair" price.
BTW - would you have ben happier if rightisright said "incompetent" rather than "communist"? After all it would have been more accurate.
BOGUS! Bain and Mitt did NOTHING for ANYONE BUT MITT. Using your DAD'S MONEY and CONNECTIONS to make a HUGE FORTUNE on the backs of the working class is so disgusting as to be CRIMINAL. Mitt should take his money and slink off to the SEWER he CRAWLED OUT OF so we don't have to look at him as we wait for the vast wealth of the OLIGARCHS to TRICKLE DOWN!!!
You need an icebag on your forehead...then go occupy something and break a window or two.
american - you spout lies but that isn't surprising since you have nothing else. No European leaders have asked our President to stay away. They did, however, want nothing to do with Bush but who can blame. Try spreading your lies where people don't have brains. That's the only thing you can hope for because the intelligent know better. The only incompetence here is yours and it shows.
Again, you and yours show daily that there is no sanity in the GOP!
Obama/Biden 2012
Jeff... How much do you know of Romney's work at Bain? Doesn't seem like much since you call it a "net positive for society." Enjoy the article.... maybe just maybe it will enlighten you if you are willing to leave your bubble.
Mitt Romney's Bain playbook was as follows: Buy a controlling interest in a successful company, strangle it with debt then pay you and your cronies upfront, neglect improving the company (i.e. upgrade equipment/plant, neglect proper maintenance, install incompetent managers, etc.), reduce worker pay, reduce retirement benefits and then watch as the company gets crushed by the debt you forced upon it. Once company goes under, workers are out of jobs and the company files for bankruptcy thus forcing the TAXPAYERS to uphold the pensions/retirement responsibilities promised by the company. Meanwhile, Mittens and his cronies walk away with millions because they paid themselves with the money they borrowed UPFRONT. Not vulture capitalism but rather PARASITIC capitalism.
http://www.seattleweekly.com/2012-04-18/news/mitt-romney-american-parasite/4/
Ahhhh "Mittens"....quite novel !
So it's 'Mittens' versus 'Girlyhands' for the presidency.
I think it was BO who said it was irresponsible to increase the national debt. I suppose his views are still maturing on that. BO's views mature, he doesn't flip flop, but I can't tell the difference.
"Evolving", realsickofit ..... when Obama reverses course it is called "evolving". LOL !
Where I come from it is called changing with the polls.
It is economists that say to spend during a recession and to cut deficits when the economy is in good standing.
realsickofit
Yes, but dumbya/cheney wouldn't listen to him and put America into a situtation where additional debt became necessary to prevent a complete meltdown depression....
are you trying to forget the republican/tea economic policies of 2201 - 2009?
I think Keynes would roll over in his grave if he could see that we were abusing his theories to bankrupt the US.
I believe Keynes had in mind setting aside money in good times to pay for deficits in lean years, something we never do.
I don't think he meant to keep up spending the way we do forever until we fall in the toilet.
Ramboet - Nothing wrong with spending during a recession, the thing is, obama used a sawed off shotgun to shoot money at the government sector rather than the private sector and then ignored the economy. His stimulas plans were all his and the congressional democrats from the time of his inaugeration to the "shellacking" (obamas word) the left had in the 2010 midterms.
One would have thought that with all the talk of republican obstructionism during 2009 and 2010 that more republicans would have been booted out of congress than democrats.
He is the first president who blames everyone else, then says that he deserves a 2nd term. Sorry sweety, one and done! If romney can't do it, one and done for him as well.
'This is what this campaign is going to be about'
Obamas feelings have "evolved" enough to realize that campaigning on his own actions would be political suicide.
No, pjam:
I believe President Obama will campaign "on his own actions" most of the time;
D'ya think Willard will campaign on HIS own actions and decisions while at Bain Capital and as Governor?????
Lets get out the yardstick and measure them both side by side; and lets throw dubya/cheney's actions in there too to keep things in proper perspective.
No double standards. You want to look at one record, you must look at the other for accurate comparison.
Not as...
You're not listening to Mr. Obama...he's the one saying that the upcoming election will be "about" Mr. Romney's tenure at Bain.
Although if you are unable to believe what the President himself has said, who could really blame you ?
We NEED STIMULUS. STIMULUS DECREASES THE DEBT by increasing TAX REVENUE. It should be called TRICKLE UP economics. TRICKLE UP works. TRICKLE DOWN never has!
Tony;
obviously you are not listening to what I am saying.
YOU & the tea/gop whine thatt the President must run
on his record;
we say, "Fine and dandy! Will put it up against the previous eight years and compare."
But fair is fair. By running "on his record" we MUST apply it to both candidates, so Willard's record at Bain and as Governor is fair game, and HE must run on that.
Get it?
Don't try that old teapublican double standard - won't work this year.
NOt as stupid as you think
And considering that the platform of the Romney campaign is essentially, 'oh the Bush agenda but bigger', running on the record of the previous administration would also be perfectly acceptable.
Jonathan...
I must have missed the news report that Mitt Romney has announced that his plan for the nation is "the Bush agenda but bigger".
Thanks for your concise update. So very helpful.
Obozo deflect and distract. A page from the Marxist textbook.
Is it demeaning to not use someones title?
Like say calling you a "quack" might be?
President Obama
Oh sure Al...
Like the first post on here:
Gosh Willard & Al, your attempt to wrongly and un-truly portray the President's record as "poor" - particularly in comparison to the previous eight years - is obviously just an excuse to try to distract the voters from the record of Bain and the "presumed candidate's" behavior, actions and decisions there.
Sandy - when you start correcting your fellow posters as well, maybe you will have made a point. You know like speaker boehner, house minority leader pelosi, governor romney...
You don't mind if I ocassionally refer to the executive branch leader as POTUS, do you? Perhaps obama would get more respect if he actually acted like a POTUS vs a junior US senator blaming the opposition. You know, work at being a unifier rather than a divider.
American: I agree that he's "evolved" into a divider. But honestly, conservatives have been against him since before he ever took any actions in office. From day one, conservatives were against the POTUS and did almost anything they could to subvert majority rule because...well...I don't want to say racism because I don't think its that. But conservatives seem to have some sort of baseline hatred for him. This guy hasn't even really done anything liberal in office. He's to the RIGHT of Bill Clinton, but conservatives really really don't like him. Now, why would he ever have to be a uniter to a side that's been divider all the way?
StevefromWI,
Are you kidding me ?
Under a Republican House, Bill Clinton gave the U.S. welfare reform.
Under a Democratic House and Senate, Barack Obama gave the U.S. another entitlement program it cannot afford .... it "gave" the U.S. this crappy legislation called Obamacare. All are reuired to buy insurance, only those who "cannot afford" the premiums will BE SUBSIDIZED by Uncle Sam !
Heellloooo welfare !!!!! Here we go again. Medicare is broke, Social Security is headed that way and Obama decided we needed something else we cannot afford.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch $16.7 trillion in debt and rising rapidly, no budget after 3.5 years in office and Obama continues to play the class warfare game ! What's not to love ?
If that's what you're (Romney) hanging your hat on, don't be surprised when the President takes a swing at your head. Romney didn't taut his accomplishments as governor. For some reason, Romney thought gutting companies for profit was the same thing as "job creation." Go Figure!
How many companies did Romney gut? How many did obama's nazi movement unions gut. Did the taxpayer bailout Bain Capital because it sure as he!! had to bail out the unions.
Your response is not worth responding to...."nazi movement"...."bail out the unions"....straight nonsense. I'm sure if we keep up this banter eventually there will be a mention of some top-secret muslim/nazi/socialist/jewish/_________(fill in the blank) plan by the President (that only Fox News and the Tea Party knows of) to take down this wonderful country built on the backs of "real" Americans, apple pie & let us not forget the Constitution (that none of the Tea Party has read).
proudamericanveteran, No the taxpayer didn't have to bailout Bain, they had to bail out the pension funds of the companies that Bain sucked dry.
Andie - Really? Name them.
bain capital saved more companies than it lost (roughly 75%), which is amazing considering an equity company like that usually only takes on companies that are struggling. I wonder what Obama would say to the workers whose jobs were saved bain?
I don't think people understand that these companies would have been gone anyway. And if you are going to focus on Bain, why not the fact that he saved the Salt Lake City olympics?
Saved the Olympics???
The American people bailed out the Olympics after wooden Mitt lobbied for money, then took the credit.
You folks will believe anything.
Good retort by #44 and I think he should continue to reconstruct the Romney narrative for President. Unless of course his masters in the LGBT community say otherwise. But they won't because Mitt rightfully supports traditional marriage.
Obama has a great record of fund raising...from Bain Capital, Goldman Sachs, among others that he is criticizing. He's throwing so many people under his campaign bus that he's running out of room.
Billy, what we don't know is what obamas "backroom deals" have been to get the wealthy to contribute money. How can you go out of the way to denigrate a minority publicly yet still take the cash. At least this year, corporations and the wealthy are thinking more about what obama supports than they did in 2008..
Obama has finally spoke the truth. Of coarse it is only because he has nothing else to campaign on. He has no workable plan for jobs, economy, immigration, the health care problem, the deficit ect. He only has only has the few times Bain had to close a business going bankrupt costing some jobs but reinvested that money in solvent companies creating even more jobs then were lost. Posts above have stated Obama has a great record but the truth is he can not run on it because it does not exist.
Willy and Billy- Some of President Obama's record:
Job losses per month in January 2008: 700,000
Job gains last month: 120,000
25 straight months of private sector gob growth
GDP growth in 2008: negative 6%
GDP growth last year 2.9%
Dow Jones Average in January 2008: Under 8000
Dow Jones Average today: 12,500+
Record domestic oil production
GM – all time record profits
Near record corporate profits across the board
Osama Bin Laden --- dead
Iraq war --- over
President Obama likes Bain, companies like Bain are good for investors, their just not so good for the workers at a plant they take over. Bain buys a company in trouble, breaks it up, sells the assets for a big profit, lays off the employees who lose their pensions and health care, the investors go to the bank, the employees go home to a cold house. This is the reason Mitt thinks he'll be a good president, because he was Bain's leader and made a ton of money, but what about the workers? This election is about what kind of country we want, one where 99% of us goes quietly into the night and the 1% come out smelling like Kruger-rands!!
Barlow---Bain does not sell all the companies it buys. the may down size some to make them profitable which saves jobs. others they invest heavily in and the companies grow and more jobs are created. You really need to listen and read information about Bain and not think Obama and Co. always tell it like it is. By the way, I am one of the 1% and had no complaints about my situation until the last 3.5 years. And I did not rely on the Government for hand outs as many more Americans do today verses 4 years ago.
Barlow - well said.
Will - I don't believe you are a 1%er. You're not credible and you don't sound smart enough unless inheritance was your ticket.
Upset--Thanks for the correction. I am not one of the 1%. I screwed up and left the word not out of I am not. That does not change my position or post on Bain so craw back in your hole and celebrate the fact you caught my type-o. Come back out when you have a sensible or informative comment.
Boy , some people just can't handle the true. It's amazing to read some of these comments. Pres Obama spelled out exactly what RMoney was doing at Bain and people lost jobs and now that's a good thing. Remember, this ain't bean bag...
Idiot. Some businesses go under because their time has come and gone. Like the steel industry that did not make investments and because of other issues such as China dumping steel.
Obama also Spelled out exactly how Solyndra failed even after he rushed through approval of their loan so Biden could make a publicity stop... he also laughed about how his own highly touted "shovel ready" jobs were nothing more than empty rhetoric to keep the ignorant Dem sheep docile and wide-eyed.
pjam
That loan guarantee was approved under the Bush administration. Not sure how you can consider something that spans several years and two presidential administrations that also had a party switch could be 'rushed'.
Sometimes companies fail. Sometimes companies have too many employees & to much in expenses. Sometimes people have to lose jobs in order to save the companies. It appalls me how many people do not understand the basic fundamentals of business.
It also appalls me how some people do not understand the basic fundamentals of human life. The folks that lost their jobs don't care that the company was saved, and since when is it more important to save the company than the people who invest their lives in it?
Jonathan,
Bush had stopped the Solyndra loan. Solyndra had received a "going-concern" letter from their independent CPA's indicating they would be unlikely to stay in business. The Obama administration rushed through the loans anyway because it fit Obama's ideology. This proves Obama is incapable of running a business, much less an economy of the U.S.
That's right, Bush would have much rather preferred that money go to Iraq. He couldn't send it there fast enough.
jim,
No Bush did NOT stop the Solyndra loan. The OMB had not approved it by the time the administrations had changed.
can figure if this guy is a joke or just a POS. just listen to what he said. it's mindless unless you are three years old.
or a Democrat.
Nothing more ironic and hypocritical than a politician like obama preaching against wealth and the rich at a $50,000.00 plate dinner. How many of you sheep attended?
Hell we couldn't afford to smell the dinner. More power to Our President if he can get the 1% to back him while he advocates for the 99%.
"Preaching against wealth..." You need to take off your Tea colored glasses and get a hearing aid.
Well said
hotdox - "More power to Our President if he can get the 1% to back him while he advocates for the 99%."
Do you think the 1% got to be the 1% because they are dumber than you?
Look at the TRILLIONS in bailouts to Wall Street and Unions, Look at how many banks have closed making the "Too big to fail" even bigger. Look at making the CEO of GM an actual member of our government as a "job czar".
Obama loves the rich and he loves to buy votes of the 43% of Americans who are pure leeches... if you are part of the middle 56% you are screwed because you are paying for the "too big to fail" as well as the "Too lazy or 'entitled' to work".
If you are dumb enough to pay your taxes and be mad at the 1% who cost you nothing (and actually create jobs) and call yourself part of the "99%" while ignoring the 43% who are gladly trading their vote to be handed more of your paycheck then you get what you deserve.
Do you honestly believe this tripe?
America cannot afford another four years of this post turtle obama.
The problem with the Democratic Party is individualism, i saw Meet The Press on sunday with Mayor Booker and i was very dissapointed in the Mayor in his comment and with Ford, we dont need politicians like you promoting themselves in this pivotal time, look at the Republicans do you think that they all like Romney. "NO" but they do that in private. I hope you and Ford no longer speak for Obama re-election
And speaking of no longer speaking for the Obama re-election, can you say Joe Biden, Howard Dean, Michelle Obama, Nancy Pelosi?
wow, god forbid anyone speaks their own mind...."The problem with the Democratic Party is individualism"...that right there speaks volumes on what the party stands for..
last time I checked individualism is what made this country great...way to promote free speech, i think it was sad that not to long after his original statement he changed his tune...if you are going to make a statement then stick to your guns and believe in what you say
Put it into this concept ...... Do we manage for the benefit of each and every individual in this country, or do we manage for the benefit of U.S. citizens taken as a whole ?
We cannot afford to have Uncle Sam following around with his unbridled checkbook ready to whip out a check for each individual every time he needs something. Indiviual responsibility must be in the equation somewhere.
Billy - say what you will about Pelosi, she's not my favorite either, but she had an approval rating 3X higher than Boehner. That's saying a lot.
Yes, Obama is correct. It's about fairness. And exactly how is it fair that the WH spends millions of tax dollars for cronies in failed companies such as Solyndra while millions remain unemployed and underemployed? Or federal government employees go on spending binges while publicly stating that they don't care because it isn't their money?
Millions of dollars spent by the government on Solyndra trying to improve our energy picture. Billions of dollars,of our invested money, spent by Goldman Sachs on speculative trading. Which the government now has to settle. What else have you got?
How exactly is Solyndra improving our energy picture? The company is bankrupt. But wait, you are absolutely correct. Solyndra is not using any energy because they don't exist anymore. wow...the WH needs to invest in more companies that fail and don't use any energy.
Guess who has received the most campaign dollars from Goldman Sachs? Does the name Obama ring a bell?
Haliburton and subsidiaries, Enron...
and on and on.
hypocrit!
The job creators in the United States economy are those who spend thier money to purchase those goods and services needed to live everyday not the richest 1%. The conservative movement has been at war with the job creators for the past 30 years it is up to us to stop this war.
Our president is leading the charge by attacking Bain-Romney.
So, Obama is leading the charge of attacking the 1%, himself included? wow...looks like someone's elevator doesn't go all the way to the top.
What? And where do they spend their money? At businesses! Businesses have money, so they hire. Ever see a poor person hire employees? I didn't think so!
Romney could change the subject.
He could taut his accomplishments as governor.
I would like to know how he has governed in the past.
what do you mean by job creators? the govt. ? the Govt. only gives you something so you will be forced into doing what they want. Everything comes with strings.
Sandy - "Romney could change the subject.
He could taut his accomplishments as governor."
So even you expect more from Romney than you do from Obama.
That should tell you something if you weren't too much of an obedient Dem sheep to not realize it.
That's the problem, Romney's record as a governor isn't very good. He's clearly chosen to run on his business credentials.
ahahahahaha, first comments are anti obama! lol!
If Willard Romney were the economic genius he self-proclaims, then he nor his Bain capitol would have never reigned over a failed company.
By claiming to be an economic genius while overseeing complete failures doesn't add up. That doesn't mean no body has the right to an opinion about the economy, but people shouldn't say that they understand something that no one understands. Not every Mormon is honest.
D-112 - Did any of them fail in the last 4 years along with the rest of the economy? Who was "reigning" over it all?
Is reality too painful for you?
I can't hardly tell what you're talking about, but I'm not overly thrilled with Obama and the economy. But he has had pretty consistant job creation with growth in manufacturing. I think he could've done better if he didn't cave to the GOP by cutting the stimulus in half. I think he would've been better breaking the banks up.
But I'm not heartbroken about it and I'm not a single issue drone.
Did Obama do great with the economy? No, but the 'Do-Nothing House' and Filibuster Senate were a huge part of that problem too, so why on earth would I blame the one guy for what the other people are doing.
D-1129384, Check your facts. How did Obama "cave" to the GOP? Wasn't the stimulus debate between the Blue Dog Dems and the far left comprising the majority of the House under Grandma Goo-Goo Pelosi?
The Republicans had nothing to do with the stimulus debates. They were shut out of committee meetings. The thing was written in secret. In the end, the Republicans blocked nothing in the House or Senate. They simply didn't have the votes.
enner
The republicans played a pretty big role in the stimulus, but not only would they not allow the stimulus to be the size that was originally requested (about 1.5T dollars) but they also demanded that just under half of it be in the form of tax rebates for individuals. Because, hey, those tax rebates didn't do anything the three times it was tried during the Bush administration, so we must try it again.
Republicans were never shut out of committee meetings, they can't be. They compromise about half of all the committees.
enner: Your post is full on non-truths. Get off the Hannity Show. Republicans have blocked and obstructed at an unimaginable pace, but in your mind, they've "blocked nothing". Good grief.
Romney is anything but honest.
wow...Obama is getting way off message. He needs to stick to his strategy of blaming Bush.
I know and just think if Bush wouldn't have made it so freakin easy for him then what would he have done.
Bain should be held "strictly responsible" for NOT ONLY the job losses that occurred when Bain bought out these companies but also the COST that eventually fell to the Federal Government for Unemployment compensation and supporting the Pensions that were lost during the Bankruptcies of those companies. This is way more than "Vulture Capitalism".
D miller you are an idiot are you telling me every company that takes a chance on another company and it goes bad should be held responsible for the unemployment of those who lost there job's ?? okay then when do i get my check from Mr Obama and the billions he wasted on solindra ??? wait i know what your going to say checks in the mail right ??
D miller, how would you propose saving companies already on the brink of bankruptcy without cutting costs ?
When the government took over GM to try and save them from bankruptcy, were there not job losses and closing involved ? Was the government taking over GM "vulture capitalism " ?
I don't think equity firms are the greatest thing on earth, but I think I appreciate their 'need'.
I don't think the ability to run such a firm quantifies them as 'knowing the economy'.
Businesses failed under Bain- if they 'knew the economy' such an event would never take place.
Why is a man claiming to be an expert on something where he's proven he doesn't fully understand or he wouldn't have seen any financial failure.
Or maybe he just knew how to sucker people. Because when Bain blew it, and lost people's jobs and money, Bain didn't loose anything. They stood to profit, even from the failures.
Bain today just sold AMC to a Chinese Company. Is this the firm that claims Romney's economic success- selling American companies to China.
You can bet I won't be seeing movies at an AMC anymore.
The fact that the Federal Reserve is neither “Federal” nor a “Reserve,”
and also not part of the official Federal Government is now clear to
most of the world, and certainly to the concerned citizenry of the USA,
finally. What is not known, but bandied about on the internet for quite
some time is: “Where did the money go?”
$16,000,000,000,000.00 (TRILLION) had been secretly given out to US
banks and corporations and foreign banks everywhere from France to
Scotland . From the period between December 2007 and June 2010, the
Federal Reserve had secretly bailed out many of the world’s banks,
corporations, and governments.
http://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/news/?id=9e2a4ea8-6e73-4be2-a753-62060dcbb3c3
jack,
1) the structure and properties of the Federal Reserve has been very well known since its creation. It hasn't been a secret to anyone. All you need to do is read, which admittedly is a lot easier today with the internet as a resource, but it wasn't hidden before the creation of the internet.
2) in order to understand the 16T figure, you need to understand how everything works. Based on the first item, it is obvious that you don't. Most of that is money flowing back and forth between different reserve banks (the Fed doesn't deal with people, it deals with banks), so if the Fed gives the ECB (Euro Central Bank) a trillion dollars in US funds, the ECB is giving the US back, the equivalent in Euro's. They don't just give money away. Nobody does in business.
Now why would you want to do that 'exchange' well the point of that was to increase liquidity for companies in europe that needs US dollars to operate in international trade. If the US government wasn't so insistent in 1947 in making the US dollar as the reserve currency of the world, well then this type of thing wouldn't have been needed. But the US did make that demand, and got it. So the US dollar isn't just the currency for the US, it is THE global currency. Now everyone talks about not wanting to make those moves (the currency swaps with foreign banking institutions), but don't ever talk about taking the US dollar out as the global currency, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.
That decision to make the US dollar the global reserve currency, like it or not, makes the US dollar far more than just a currency for the country, and as such, requires far more responsibility than just to the country.
Now I suppose you are one that hates Keynes, but he was actually one of the few economists who was vehemently against the US dollar as a reserve currency, but nobody listened to him. Oh well
lol jonathan. fed reserve is now in debt almost 4 trillion now, compared to 800 billion in 2007. nobody wants us dollars anymore, so they print it and give it to barak and co.
get rid of the stooge.
right:
er um, exactly where are you getting that figure from? and the fact that the anti fed contingent can't really get its numbers straight should tell the reader exactly where to put those figures.
As for the 'barak and co.' insinuation, that just belies a total non understanding of how government works. But that is just par for the course it seems with so many.
Jonathan,
Clearly you dont have any idea,I give you the Hints:
1) Have you ever heard The New World Order ?,Heritages fund ?
2) China alone with usd $1.69 Trillion fund in its New World Order account.
3) Its Members of Countries 29
4) Free interest Loan to banks.
5) Guarantee Payment.
Its a good start for You to work out.
jack,
Are you @!$%#ing serious? is that a joke or what?
Should I just put you both on ignore or should I buy Sn futures?
Heritage Fund-
Maybe The Vatican Fund rings the Bell for You?
Or read the Policy of Ideology base on GOP/TP practices below link.
http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2011/05/saving-the-american-dream-the-heritage-plan-to-fix-the-debt-cut-spending-and-restore-prosperity
Jonathan,
Hope you can see how the GOP/TP manipulations at Work .
Next time I'll tell you about the Vatican Fund Super Pac in Election
JONATHAN, INSTEAD OF EATING SMUG you should REALLY investigate for yourself.
Obummer is destroying this country, with the dems help. find out for yourself. USE ALL FORMS OF INTERNET, if you dont know how, GOOGLE IT. LOL AT YOU.
rightisright,
You really should look at the trail of destruction that was created by the current presidents predecessor. Seriously, you should really look at it. He took a balanced budget, and could have really done something about the debt burden of the country, and what does he do, blows that up and puts the country on the unsustainable path that it is on right now. It is unsustainable either way you look at it now. So the solutions of the Republican party, they are the same as that same predecessor that put this country on this unsustainable path.
You really should try to understand the words that people post instead of worshipping at the alter of all that which is republican. My business partner, a REGISTERED REPUBLICAN for more than 40 years, is no longer registered because of how disgusted he is about the direction that the part has been on. Think about that, 40 @!$%#ing years.
It's the same poison coming out of the lib mouth it's fair game because we say it is,but when someone says any thing bad about them holy crap watch out you have just stepped over the line you have to respect the president NO I do not have to respect him at all respect is earned and considering what the American people are earning now that his failed all of us he get's no respect from me or my vote come November MITT 2012 !!!!!!
Dumb a@s republican.
