Cheney to raise money for Romney

Former Vice President Dick Cheney will help raise money for Mitt Romney, a Romney campaign aide confirms.

Cheney and his wife will host a fundraiser in Jackson Hole, WY, July 12th.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the news:

The July 12 fund-raiser will be a tiered event, giving donors the chance to pay a little extra for the privilege of dining with Mr. Romney and the former vice president. The Romney campaign launched his Victory Fund last month to raise as much as $75,800 from individual donors by bundling contributions with the Republican National Committee and four state parties.

As the presumptive GOP nominee, Mr. Romney will need to figure out how closely he aligns himself with George W. Bush and other members of his administration, including Mr. Cheney. The candidate has tapped a number of former Bush administration officials as his advisers, but it remains to be seen whether the former president or his no. 2 will get high-profile speaking slots at the convention or appear on the campaign trail on Mr. Romney’s behalf. While those decisions will be made in the weeks and months ahead, the campaign was downright buoyant to announce the Cheney fund-raiser.

Cheney is going to be an amazing fundraiser.

Asking for money from behind his Darth Vader mask will likely get some big results.

Heck, i'll even donate a thousand dollars to the RNC if Cheney is willing to meet me in Switzerland for it.

Last I heard, they had a APB out for his arrest for torture and other war crimes...diplomatic immunity doesn't protect you from that.

But, seriously, avoiding Darth Cheney should be relatively simple. Just stay on Hallowed Ground.

OMG - how desperate is ROMNEY? When you have to ask Cheney to raise money for you, you've sunk as low as anyone could. Let's see, he's not allowed out of the US because the World Court has an arrest warrant out for him for war crimes. No one with any values in the US will go near him because he's such a disgusting individual. But, he's perfect for Romney!

How low the GOP has sunk! Can it go any lower????

I just love hearing stories about how this guy continues to pick up endorsements, aids, advisors, and now fund raising dollars from the very toxic Bush administration and then turns around and says that his 'vision" is better for America than what we are working towards today. It is even funnier that this messege resonates with people that just want to go back to failed policies as if they dont remember that these same people were complicit in starting a war that did not need to get started and who passed laws that benefited only a select few at the expense of the rest of us... No thank you!!

My first thought was, why? I posted this elsewhere that Romney should stand in front of a clock that shows the amount of money being raised for campaigns. In 2008 a little more than 6 million was spent. for 2012, the amount is already 78 million.

And the Republican Super PACS are way ahead of the Dems because of a late start due to their position against Citizen's United. Also, Wall Street is backing Romney 5 to 1 to the president now, as well as Big Business. Some in Big Business split their donations (hedge their bets). But apparently many large companies, for example Exxon/Mobil give nearly 90% of their contributions to Republicans.

Regardless, giving money to very, every rich candidates has never computed.

There is a warrant out for Cheney's arrest. If he leaves the country, he'll be arrested.

So, maybe you can justify your strange sense of morality...just what, exactly, did Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky do that violated the Geneva Conventions?

#1.24 - Mon May 21, 2012 5:19 PM EDT

Let's talk facts then.

Dick Cheney is wanted by the World International Court for suspicion of being a war criminal, a violation of international humanitarian law. If arrested, he would face a trial for war crimes under which the maximum penalty is death.

After several countries have lodged protests against Dick Cheney, he has not left the United States.

That? Facts.

Draw your own conclusions from there.

There is more qualified Bush to be the VP: Neil Bush. George W. Bush bankrupted 2 companies and a country. His brother has experience in horrible money management decisions, too. Neil Bush was a member of the board of directors of Silverado Savings and Loan during the 1980s' larger S&L crisis. As his father, GHWB, was VP, Neil Bush's Silverado's collapse cost taxpayers $1.3 billion. Must run in their genes.

Well, this is a very interesting move by the Republican party. Note how little mention of Bush or Cheney was made by the various Republican candidates during the primary. But, now that Mitt Romney has sewed up the Republican candidacy, Republicans call Dick Cheney from his hospital bed (heart replacement surgery is not a trivial operation and I suspect his doctors advised against it) to raise money.

Obviously, Republicans think they can handle whatever stink might transfer from Cheney to Romney. But I remember and I hope American voters remember.

Dick Cheney is quoted often as saying that "deficits don't matter". Let's look at exeactly where that quote came from:

Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill raised objections to a new round of tax cuts. He tried to warn Vice President Dick Cheney that growing budget deficits-expected to top $500 billion that fiscal year alone-posed a threat to the economy. Cheney cut him off. "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," he said, according to excerpts. Cheney continued: "We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due." A month later, Cheney told the Treasury secretary he was fired.

Do you get that? When warned that deficits could cause problems in the American economy, Cheney basically said "We won the elections, we will do whatever the hell we want even if it damages the American economy"! And then he fired the man that told him it would lead to economic problems!

The fact that Romney has Cheney raising money for him and the fact that he has hired most of the Bush economic team (but, as near as I can tell, that does not include Paul O'neill) shows that Romney and the Republican party learned nothing from the disastrous Bush years and fully intends to repeat them.

With all that supposed great business experience Romney exposes, why would Romney call on the same people that brought this country down to be his advisors?

What 'good' businessman makes the same mistake twice? What 'good' businessman would allow his business to hire people with that poor of a work background and performance? What 'good' businessman would not surround himself with the best economic team and instead ask these buffons for help.

We don't need no stinkin' businessman to run this country!

Bill and Monica didn't violate the Geneva Convention, never stated that.

Huey, either you are just completely irrelevant or you equate Bill/Monica with the violation of international treaties. You are the one that brought up Clinton in response to an article about Dick Cheney and Mitt Romney as a cheap, unsuccessful diversion. By the way, Cheney violated the Geneva Conventions...not "convention". We're not talking about what your local moose lodge goes to every year in Reno. This may help you look them up should you ever choose to educate yourself. (no one will be holding their breath on the one...)

If you don't like my response to your holier-than-thou statement, then you also may stick it where the liberal sun doesn't shine.

That would require me to get much to close to Cheney, your precious little Mittsy and YOU, quite frankly, than I would ever be comfortable with. So, have your little "low information voter" tantrum and let the adults handle the real world for you. My advice would be to go back to a third grade English class and actually pass it this time around. Then attempt to conquer some bigger issues...like what flavor of bubble gum you think is the coolest...

Karl Rove’s SuperPac is currently spending $25 million on ads in key states to attack Barack Obama and the Democrats and they are committed to spending at least $300 million before the elections. Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, Grover Norquist, the Koch Brothers, SuperPacs and several others are aggressively endeavoring to get into people’s minds with their propaganda and deception, aimed to excite, sway, con and manipulate, with the intent to block people’s independent thinking and to elicit emotional responses. They are cocky confident with their strategy as it has worked for them in the past: with the manipulation of the conservative Christian (2000); the Swift-boat propaganda (2004); and the Tea Party movement (2010), as examples. Their criticism really isn’t ever meant to offer legitimate reason, as that would encourage rational and objective discernment, but rather they just seek to excite emotions with exaggerations and deceptions. When people’s emotions are checked, the tactics are totally obvious and demonstrate their contemptible ploy to simply take people for granted by considering them “pawns” in their game of manipulation, as if their money gives them privilege.

Not to see it, not to want to see it doesn’t matter, the reality is still there - the wealthy aren’t generously contributing, they are buying self-serving advantage that costs everyone else. It is their natural follow up to the Republican / Tea Party’s concentration on serving only “the money’s” interests, while stubbornly and arrogantly withholding all responsible cooperation and reasonable compromise and only blocking and faulting all efforts, without concern for the costs to the people, while they depend on the power and influence of “the money” to control public opinion. The Democrats and Barack Obama are not perfect by any means but they need to be judged on their effort and not on the subterfuge aggressively and continually offered to confuse and deceive. What the public is really justified in doing is to recognize the insulting arrogance of the “puppet” politicians and their money supporters, those who actually “pull the strings”, and to become offended by being taken for granted as “pawns”, and instead to firmly reject the propaganda and the GWBush style controlled candidates who stand ready to again serve the “masters”. Otherwise “the money” may just succeed in conning the country into returning to “more of the same” (Bush-Cheney style) that cost us so much and just further pushes the country into being a two-class society, with “the money” (1%) competing in having it all, while the majority (99%) continues to loose more.

Wonder who paid for it? He has insurance of course. Too bad for those that don't have it and can't get it. I will never understand folks who wold complain about being required to have health insurance when they are required to have auto insurance and probably home insurance as well. Hell yes, and Republicans LOVE IT, as long as it's for "them" and not for any of us "liberals."

Republicans love their "socialist cadillac health care" paid in full by Working Americans that Republicans just can not stand, and Republicans' buddies, the mega-wealthy "victims" don't pay a dime. You see, they way it goes is, Republicans want for us to pay for them to have the best of everything, and they don't want us to schit.

It's just like Larry Craig, the Republican Senator from Idaho who complained and went nuts about gays, until Larry Craig got caught having sex in an airport Mens Room, with another guy.

Right this very minute Romney is enjoying our Socialist Secret Service that WE pay for, when he's rich enough to pay for his own. Romney keeps his money in his pocket, and, once again, sticks the American People with Romney's Socialist Secret Service bill, then Romney will lobby the Congress to remove the minimum wage so he can cut our pay even lower. Let me clarify: You do not know where your president came from, correct? As for me, I love how my president messes with insecure conspiracy types who live in partial paranoia, still unsettled by not believing his stated birthplace. It is a simple pleasure, a gift of sorts that keeps on giving, hearing disgusted conservatives like yourself dwell on this issue. My advice: Keep watching Fox commentary for the latest "unbiased" chatter. This will help you sustain the level of insecurity and doubt that you have co-opted yourself with.
