Jodi Kantor writes of Rommey’s faith: “[A]s the presumptive Republican nominee for president, Mr. Romney speaks so sparingly about his faith — he and his aides frequently stipulate that he does not impose his beliefs on others — that its influence on him can be difficult to detect. But dozens of the candidate’s friends, fellow church members and relatives describe a man whose faith is his design for living. The church is by no means his only influence, and its impact cannot be fully untangled from that of his family, which is also steeped in Mormonism. But being a Latter-day Saint is ‘at the center of who he really is, if you scrape everything else off,’ said Randy Sorensen, who worshiped with Mr. Romney in church.”
“To win, Romney must convince voters — especially those in the roughly dozen swing-voting states where the race is likely to be decided — that the situation is so bad that that they should give him a chance to do what Obama hasn't been able to do: get the economy really going. .... In a way, however, Republican governors, many of them freshmen elected in 2010, aren't making it easy for Romney to make his case,” AP writes. (H/t: GOP 12.)
The AP writes of Romney’s leadership test during the big dig: “Romney's stiffest leadership test as governor produced mixed results. He was praised, even by some Democrats, for his energetic, take-charge management style. But he also drew criticism for playing to the media and dodging personal blame.”
The power of Paul: "After years of quiet, relentless organizing, followers of libertarian-leaning GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul have exploded inside the Minnesota Republican Party, becoming its most potent army," the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports, adding, “In Minnesota, more than almost any other state, Paul forces have completed a historic party takeover. They proved their might Saturday, but also firmly established Minnesota as a remote GOP outpost nationally. Now state GOP activists will march to the national convention firmly backing Paul rather than presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.”
Political Wire: “Paul won 12 of 13 open delegate spots to the GOP national convention. The 13th went to Michele Bachmann – ‘and only after a Paul supporter dropped out to let her have that spot.’”
Though the Romney campaign as of Friday had not yet expanded its Spanish-language ad buy (just $3,000 in Raleigh), Romney strategist Russ Schriefer promised in a conference call, per Matt Lewis: “There’s going to be some serious points put behind the Spanish version of the ad.”
And Lewis adds: “During the Friday morning conference call, Schriefer contrasted Romney’s new ad with previous Obama ads, which seemed to lack direction. ‘I think [the Obama campaign is] struggling to figure out what this race is about for them,’ he said.”

Romney is unelectable! ONLY RON PAUL 2012!!!
Romney a man of faith? I agree.. He believes in the almighty dollar...
OMFG, Romney lies so much that he has no soul left!
Going to Church does not make you a good Christian - only acting like one does!
Who doesn't lie in politics, they all do... it's called adjusting the truth. I see more lies on this board than what I see coming out of the politicians mouths, so many sheep out there. Glad to be an independant!!
Faith is a kind word for superstitious. Pseudo-science, metaphysics, religion, it's all right in there with conspiracy theory. To believe in the Bible literally, for example the age of the Earth, is just--well the Flat Earth Society. To believe in an angel, golden plates, polygamy, baptism of the dead, modern revelation, their own scriptures, etc. -- that's a leap of "faith" too far. Just because I protect their right to believe as they choose doesn't mean I agree with it.
Please John Bradley. Lets' come together and get behind Romney. Unless you are a wolf in sheep's clothing and you are really a lol (left of left).
I'm a Catholic and I have no issues with Romney's religions or for that matter with President Obama's.
However, when it comes to who the best leader is, I would go for Romney at this point.
There was a time when Catholics were vilified.... Kennedy overcame that and became the first Catholic President.
I live in Nevada and have many Mormon friends. Harry Reid, probably more liberal than Obama, is a Mormon. Religion should have nothing to do with this Campaign, it's the economy, jobs, and deficit...Obama has failed all 3!!
My vote will go with Romney because he has many more positive characteristics than Obama... Obama is running on Smoke and Mirrors... again and I hate sequels especially if they can't improve the second time around!
I support President Obama, not because he's a Christian but because I am a Christian, and Obama's policies are more in tune with my religious values.
Amy, please... Romney is a strong Christian and there is NO Rev. Jeremiah Wright's in his background. Obama still has many people wondering if he's really a Muslim, pretending to be a Christian.... his background is Islamic and by his own admission studied the Koran as a child. I'm pretty sure Romney's religious background isn't as murky and Obama's is...!
Your support should be for who is the most effective candidate and that person is Romney by a wide margin!
Sally, your head must be full of rocks, because your argument is pure bull@!$%#. You can't have it both ways; Obama can not be a muslim and a christian. And although Romney many have no Jeremiah Wright in his background, I would like to hear his explanation of the Mountain Meadow massacre.
Sally Rocks,
I said, I'm voting according to my Protestant values, not the candidates professed religions. I believe "blessed are the peacemakers" and Obama's foreign policies are more in line with that value than Romney's saber rattling. I believe "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to get into heaven" and Romney seems to put wealthy people at the top, at the expense of those Americans who actually keep this country going. It bothers me that Romney brags about paying a lower tax rate than those who earn a pay check. I come from Puritan stock, and you know we value work for it's own sake. President Obama's policies just seem more in line with my religious values, and that is why I support him.
I can't vote for a person that believes that the "Mormon Jesus is not the traditional Jesus".
as so said by the Prophet Hinkely.
charemor, lol I don't believe Romney was involved in the Mountain Meadow massacre.... that happened well over a 100 years ago....
And pray tell, what did Sally say that was not the truth?
Concern Citizen-856329
So you have no problem with President Obama being a Christian? Because I know you would not be implying that Obama is of "other" religion...
I don't give a crap what Romney's religion is as long as he is not forcing 16-yr-old girls to marry him as just another wife. But I do give a crap about the fact that Romney pushes himself as morally superior while he lies about everything all the time.
The guy is a total hypocrite!
Right, so I'm assuming you can explain how Romney himself was responsible for, or in any way connected to the violence, and why it should be his burden to explain...good luck. You speak as if, the LDS faith is the only religion to have any bloodshed in its history. This is laughable, because it was an isolated incident and by comparison to other faiths, a non-event.
Sally Rocks classically
No, instead there is a Mormon religion that forces girls as young as 14 to marry men as old as 49 years old! Gross!
Please do not confuse the practices of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with those of obscure sects which still practice polygamy and call themselves mormons. They are not the same, and you sound misinformed when doing so.
bayllie, you are referring to an outlaw splinter group that has no part of the Mormon faith. I'm pretty sure you know that already but are just pandering as you so like to do!
Polygamy has nothing to do with the LDS Church, just as witch burning has nothing to do with the Catholic Church!
Admus and Miked,
so you are telling me that beliefs of OTHERS in the Romney case are not relevant but they are RELEVANT between Wright and President Obama?
Where is your comment for Sally Rocks? Or is you "objectivity" only one sided?
BaylLIE,
Take a deep breath. You are comparing a single event that took place well over a century ago to comments that Rev. Wright made throughout his "ministry" which Obama absorbed for the past 20 years of his life. If that makes sense to you, fine. But, you have proven that you have zero credibility when discussing anything to do with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
edit-I thought you were talking about Romney being responsible for the mountain meadows massacre ( I get you libs and your nonsense confused sometimes). Your assertion that Romney is connected to or responsible for the practice of polygamy by obscure sects calling themselves mormons makes even less sense.
Adamus,
and Romney comes from a polygamist family so if that makes sense to you, fine.
If you are referring to Romney's ancestors (because Romney himself has never engaged in any such practice) then, by your definition, so does Obama! But clearly you're okay with that. So, get your facts straight please. I cannot keep correcting all of your nonsense.
The Mormons I know are fine outstanding people. I do not agree with their Religion and they are not forcing it on anyone. I have No problem with a Mormon in the white house.
My sister married a great guy who belonged to the LDS Church. Any misgivings our side of the family may have had were quickly washed away! They had 6 children who have all married and have wonderful families of their own!
I can remember, not so long ago, when Catholics were so ostracised as Mormons seem to be now... perhaps this is a result of Obama's desperation to somehow use Romney's religion as a weapon to attack him with. The Republicans willingly backed off the Rev. Wright thing, the Democrats should back off Romney's religion as well......!
Do you tea people Koch republicans not see how hypocritical you are when you talk about how religious all of you and Romney are, then you cheer all the lies he and the other tea people Koch republican politicians tells. One of the ten command mints "thou shalt not Lie". Religious give me a break, the hate you people spread on this thread alone makes God look down and shake his head. You folks better hope there isn't a heaven, cause you wouldn't be going there.
Mo, if heaven is full of insufferable leftist moonbats, I prefer going to the other place..
To Mo-1852032: who wrote: One of the ten command mints "thou shalt not Lie".
Not only do you lie as our President does, but you use Religion warfare and Class warfare.
And now the left is the most Holly of all Group and also act s as our Judge in Judgement Day. How disgusting and little of you. Grow up and join your Beisty group......lol Left of Left. It is this divisiveness that will get us all together and vote Obama out.
Mo, you're correct, but those 10 Commandments mean NUTTIN to the RightWingBibleThumpingIdiots!
Break'em All, Monday, Tuesday,Thursday, & Especially, Friday & Saturday. Then go ask Forgiveness on Wensdays & Sundays!
Vagina Bob###########'s, there is No Doubt in my mind, that You & Countless others will have No Choice in the matter, as you'll recieve a 1st Class ticket on the Hell Train!
Splat will be the sound as yall Fall from the Skies with a Sore A$$ to Boot from the Good swift Kick, St. Peter just gaveya!
You Betcha!
Occupy SoggyBottom!
Gotta disagree with that statement Rick....
I think that they do mean something to the RWNJ'S, but under the tea/gop double standard, only Democrats must conform and follow those rules or be condemed while the teapublicans can do as they please.
"Do as I say, not as I do!" The RNC-TEA motto.
Your name is true because reading what you write makes a person believe your to stupid to work a keyboard.
When your Morals are lower then wale poop it is not hard to be on higher ground. I am not going to say your going to hell. Not my decision. I do not know your heart but if I had to judge by your words I hope you like heat and the smell of sulpher. Just something to think about when your on your prayer rug.
rukidding47 - "your to stupid to work a keyboard." Maybe you're too stupid to work a keyboard. And, I don't think you're qualified to judge anyone's morals. You don't know how anyone lives or what their beliefs are - other than Republican or Democrat. And, from what I see of the Republicans on this site, they've left their christianity at the door!
Obama/Biden 2012
Can one really believe in the angel moroni and still be considered a true Christian? I can't imagine that any good Catholic could go along with that fairy tale.
We arent voting for Mormonism, we are voting for a political leader.
There isn't anyone in the world more political than romney, so good luck with that. He changes postions more often than his underwear.
Mittens wasn't the only one to use his religion to get out of an all expense paid trip to Viet Nam. So can't really blame him for becoming a "Minister" and heading for France.
So, let me get this straight. As a liberal, you feel that war is a more noble use of one's time than two solid years of un-paid service in a foreign country? And with your criticism, I'm assuming that you have an equal or greater act of service in your past? I thought not.
Not specifically a liberal more of a pragmatist, but mostly would describe myself as an atheist. Did my tour in Nam and lost 2 brothers to that war. All 8 of us served one place or another, Army, Navy and Air Force. Would have gone to France myself if I had had the chance.
All differences aside, I deeply respect that. You, and your brothers, have my sincere gratitude for your defence of our country.
Adamus - two years of unpaid service while he was living in a mansion in France, supported by his daddy? Not too bad a deal, was it?
Having served a similar mission in Hungary from May of 2001 - May of 2003, I can tell you from first-hand experience that it is not the vacation that you are envisioning. Not that you would know the first thing about it. So, please spare us your absurd assumptions about how LDS missionaries live the high life in the mission field.
I don't know of any "man of faith" that can stand in front of the American People tell them lies and sling bullsh-t as well as exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH! If that's a man of faith, I must have been fooled all these years!
The ONLY FAITH THIS CAT HAS IS HIS GREED FOR THE "ALMIGHTY" DOLLARS!
bayllie
There is NO Mormon religion that forces 16 year old children to marry adult men. If you want to get your facts straight that would be nice. The instance you refer to is in fact not related to Mormonism is anyway other than a sick man took advantage of a small town of misguided people.
'TR' Rose II
You are either clearly uneducated to religion or deceptively posting your lol (lies over liberty) ideology.
