The third thing in his new ad he says he will end Obamacare on day 1.

However the only way that can happen is if Congress passes a repeal bill before his “Day 1”.

Not likely because the Republicans will not have 60 votes in the senate.

Day 1 = first broken promise

Dennis. I hope you're wrong.

If your statement is true, that would mean Romney won the election.

In any case, it's going to be another long hot summer and it will be filled with some very ugly ads.

Ah, shucks Dennis - the drafters of Obamacare doomed it from the start.

Or perhaps you can tell us how the thing gets going without state exchanges?

You have read the provisions regarding the creation and funding of the state exchanges, right?

But I do love the hysteria about ads.

Why it's almost like the writers of this story have never heard about remote controls.

Or are unaware that TEVEEs can be turned off.

Oh my.

He doesn't need to speak, just hold a pen, ask Karl Rove and Grover Norquist. If that was all they needed why didn't they just nominate an empty coffee can? I have one of those on my desk with dozens of pens in it, which by their reasoning would make it dozens of times more effective than Mitt. At least I know it will be in the same position when I get back from lunch....

You see Dennis - That's the way you liberals think when it comes to dissing your guy. Your kind can slam any demographic when going after a conservative or a republican and you don't even bat an eyelash. Don't ever, ever, ever do what you do though, or some liberal will be offended... Go cry in somebody else's milk.

I have a comment to make on this:

NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss the first general election ads from the Romney campaign that have hit the airwaves in Iowa, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia.

Again the liberal agenda of MSNBC First Read shines through!!! How unusual - NOT! Hey guys have you been to Florida? Do you realize that in just about every commercial segment on regular TV, Obama has been running the same old BS ads for about 3 weeks now? I have to change the channel because it is sickening. He's puffing himself up about getting Osama.... how many times do we have to hear about yesterday's news? He claims he, with one fell swoop saved the auto industry... BIG WHOOP! If Obama thinks he can win the election with those over worn out items, he'd better be paying attention to the people he's missing.

BTW Dennis, Obamacare still has to pass the hurdle of the Supreme Court... Romney may not even have to worry about his promise after June of this year. If it gets shot down in the SC, Obamacare is dead. What a blow to Obama's campaign if it gets nixed. And, there's another one in front of the Supreme Court about illegal immigration... that is likely to get ripped out from under his feet too. I guess the ole prez should be contacting the moving companies for pricing if both of those go down in flames... How could anyone vote for a law review president that can't even keep to the laws of the land and have the SC throw his agenda into the fire pit?

Why not? Isn't speculation what we do out here all the time?

But the fact is, from every report that I have ever heard, that the tar sands oil that will be sent through the Keystone Pipeline is not suited for the US market and will not stay here. Thus, it will provide absolutely no relief for energy prices in THIS country.

The other thing I have heard repeatedly is that it won't provide anywhere the number of jobs that are being touted.

If those aren't the facts, then I count on folks like you to set me straight.

You can start anytime. But you won't.

Because in YOUR world, ignorance is bliss.

Don't count your chickens too soon, Spanky. Did you see YESTERDAY's job numbers from Wisconsin?

Job growth not so much. And just about perfectly in line with the previous numbers that Walker is now trying to reinvent.

Desperation much.

So how does that work out? Does Walker's own Department not know what they are doing?

Like his staff when he was County Executive -- I mean, ignorantly doing all that campaign work out of the County Executive's offices and on County time, while Scotty, just 25 feet down the hall, was polishing his halo so carefully and not paying attention.

Pleading guilty much.

So, in the end, maybe all this hoopla won't be necessary if Walker ends up going to jail.

Do not pass go, do not collect $20 million from the Koch brothers.

He will look so good in stripes.

While First Read was down, I went to another website to read up on politics (MSNBC is the best place for politics, BTW. I'm glad you are back up.)

I read about the contents of Romney's new, "positive" ad.

The ad says on Day One, Romney will approve the Keystone pipeline, work on tax cuts and regulations, and start measures to replace the Affordable Healthcare Act, which is referred to in the ad as "Obamacare."

So this is what you can expect in Romney's America, more income inequality, unchecked global warming, and sick people clogging emergency rooms. This is progress?

    Dear SpankMe,

There IS no controversy in the scientific community over whether global warming actually exists or whether it is caused by the burning of fossil fuels. The only dissenting opinions are those that are paid for and generated by Koch Brothers, who have an inherent interest in promoting their products. Koch Brothers could care less about rising ocean levels.

Romney's enthusiastic support of Keystone signals his lack of concern for the environmental issues involved. This is NOT an attitude I want in my President. I trust President Obama more to at least slow down and study policies that could have a devastating impact on our planet. I really don't get why Republicans think it's macho, or something, to laugh at the consequences of cooking our globe.

Er... Amy... What rising ocean levels are you speaking of? There was more concern about rising ocean temperatures... and over the past 30 years, the temperature has risen only about 1/10 of a degree and they attribute that to higher sunspot activity more than anything.

So please, in your infinite wisdom, point me in the right direction for where the rising oceans are located...

Or, are you speaking of something that may happen 500 years from now, after you have departed the surface of this planet and won't concern yourself one bit as to what height the oceans are?

Over the last decade, Charles and David Koch have emerged into public view as billionaire philanthropists pushing a libertarian brand of political activism that presses a large footprint on energy and climate issues. They have created and supported non-profit organizations, think tanks and political groups that work to undermine climate science, environmental regulation and clean energy. They are also top donors to politicians, most of them Republicans, who support the oil industry and deny any human role in global warming.

What is less well documented are the many Koch businesses that benefit from the brothers' efforts to push the center of American political discourse rightward, closer to their own convictions. At the top of the list are the Koch family's long and deep investments in Canada's heavy oil industry, which have been central to the company's initial growth and subsequent diversification since 1959.

According to NASA, global warming is real. Who are you going to believe, Koch Brother's propaganda, or NASA?

On Earth, human activities are changing the natural greenhouse. Over the last century the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil has increased the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). This happens because the coal or oil burning process combines carbon with oxygen in the air to make CO2. To a lesser extent, the clearing of land for agriculture, industry, and other human activities have increased concentrations of greenhouse gases.

The consequences of changing the natural atmospheric greenhouse are difficult to predict, but certain effects seem likely:

    • On average, Earth will become warmer. Some regions may welcome warmer temperatures, but others may not.
    • Warmer conditions will probably lead to more evaporation and precipitation overall, but individual regions will vary, some becoming wetter and others dryer.
    • A stronger greenhouse effect will warm the oceans and partially melt glaciers and other ice, increasing sea level. Ocean water also will expand if it warms, contributing further to sea level rise.

Spanky: "Cause Global warming is dead. Now close your eyes and think - when was the last time Obama has said word one about it?"

Spanky, why don't YOU close your eyes and start humming "On the Cover of the Rolling Stone"? As in, last month's issue?

James Hansen, NASA's leading climate scientist, has said this about the Keystone pipeline: that if the pipeline goes through and we burn tar sands in Canada, it's "game over" for the planet. What's your reaction to that statement?

James Hansen is a scientist who has done an enormous amount not only to understand climate change, but also to help publicize the issue. I have the utmost respect for scientists. But it's important to understand that Canada is going to be moving forward with tar sands, regardless of what we do. That's their national policy, they're pursuing it. With respect to Keystone, my goal has been to have an honest process, and I have adamantly objected to Congress trying to circumvent a process that was well-established not just under Democratic administrations, but also under Republican administrations.

"Part of the challenge over these past three years has been that people's number-one priority is finding a job and paying the mortgage and dealing with high gas prices. In that environment, it's been easy for the other side to pour millions of dollars into a campaign to debunk climate-change science. I suspect that over the next six months, this is going to be a debate that will become part of the campaign, and I will be very clear in voicing my belief that we're going to have to take further steps to deal with climate change in a serious way. That there's a way to do it that is entirely compatible with strong economic growth and job creation – that taking steps, for example, to retrofit buildings all across America with existing technologies will reduce our power usage by 15 or 20 percent. That's an achievable goal, and we should be getting started now."

Of course, Mitt has been airing an ad here that tells the story about how he dropped everything and ordered Bain to look for a missing girl of an employee. The ad insinuates that this happened in the aftermath of 9/11, when in reality it happened in 1996. It also doesn't disclose that the reason she was missing is she lied to her parents and went to an all-weekend Ecstasy rave. It also doesn't mention that Mitt was marginally involved at best, not appearing in any of the police reports. The girl was found when an anonymous caller inquired about the reward he had seen on the local news.

The auto bailout is not the only thing Mitt takes credit for that he didn't do. I'm beginning to sense a pattern here, much like his bullying problem.

    Detroit Storm -

We got that same ad pretty much 24/7 in the two weeks leading up to the primary last month. I still find it kind of creepy that the father would pimp out his daughter's drug problems from 16 years ago to promote Mitt Romney. We should point out that this ad is actually being run by Romney's Super PAC now, and he has absolutely no control over what they do or say, right? Of course, we won't mention that when Romney ran the same ad himself back in 2007, all this "Mitt the Super Hero" message finished up with "I'm Mitt Romney and I approved this message", which somehow made it even creepier.

As I've said before, I'm glad the girl was found, and if Romney played any role at all in that outcome, then good for him. It just seems like a really odd story to use to push your presidential credentials, and the16 year interval is even weirder. Hasn't he done anything since then that he can pat himself on the back for?

Joanne, a 16 year interval is weird but a 50 year interval from Romney in high school is OK?

      #5.3 - Fri May 18, 2012 1:07 PM EDT

Yes, Rocco, it is weird--16 years later Romney, himself a father. is still willing to exploit the father who exploits his daughter's story for political gain. That ad has been running here for a week and it still doesn't tell me anything more about Mitt Romney's plans for the country than I already knew which is not much since he won't tell anyone.

BTW, the right has been talking about what Obama did at age 9 in a foreign country where it was acceptable but it isn't acceptable for the left to discuss Romney's bullying at age 18 when he was old enough to know better. A prank is one thing, what Romney did was not a prank.

Issues where Romney has yet to state his position
VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT – Said he is not familiar with the issue
PAYCHECK FAIRNESS - Refused to say if he would have signed the Lilly Ledbetter law
PAYROLL TAX HOLIDAY - I'm not going to throw gasoline on what is already a fire
MISSISSIPPI PERSONHOOD - Repeatedly refused to take a position on this bill
AFGHANISTAN - Leave it up to U.S. military commanders
IMMIGRATION - Still deciding what his position is

      Dennis,

Good Morning, there is plenty of time to state his position on many issues but as a Conservative I would hope he would take the following positions:

Violence against women act: Why do we need a federal law when violence against a person is already a law in all states. No one has been able to show me a state penal code where violence against women are different that violence against men. It is just more pandering by the federal government. Besides don't the democrats want to add several other groups to the act?

Paycheck Fairness: The Lilly Ledbetter law, I believe, only pertains to federal jobs, maybe I am wrong on that, but paycheck fairness laws should be left up to the states. Every job I have held women always got the same pay as I did or anyone else for doing the same job.

Payroll Tax Holiday: Should never have been passed in the first place. Should be allowed to expire at the end of this year.

Mississippi Personhood : Isn't this a states rights issue and not a federal issue?

Afghanistan: I would hope, after discussions with military leaders, that we would pull out ASAP, like within 6 months to a year. OBL is dead, that was the reason we went into Afghanistan in the first place was to kill or capture OBL. I believe Obama made a mistake in flying to Afghanistan to sign an agreement to keep supporting Afghanistan for 10 yrs after we pull all combat troops out.

Immigration - We need a complete revision of of immigration laws, and the federal government needs to rely on the states to help with enforcement of those laws. I would drop the law suit against Arizona and go after the so called "sanctuary cities".

IMO, we have too many federal laws that are equal or less stringent than state laws, so what is their purpose other to pander to certain voting blocks.

I've got to go on a short part time drive, but will look forward to your response when I get back this evening. Have a good day, and even if we don't agree, I still like your posts and have agreed with you on numerous things.

      Dennis,

Before I leave, I did check and was wrong on the Lilly Ledbetter Law, it does pertain to jobs other than federal, I stand corrected. It was passed to over ride a Supreme Court decision.

As for the Mississippi Personhood, I understand why Romney would not have a stated position, since the voters of Mississippi refused to pass the law on Nov 7, 2011, so it is a moot subject.
