Ricketts: I'm not going to use Jeremiah Wright

NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss the day's top political news including the possibility that republicans may use President Obama's former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in ads attacking the president.

The Super PAC funded by Joe Ricketts has released a statement from the founder of TD Ameritrade that essentially says he won't use Jeremiah Wright as an attack against President Obama.

Joe Ricketts is a registered independent, a fiscal conservative, and an outspoken critic of the Obama Administration, but he is neither the author nor the funder of the so-called “Ricketts Plan” to defeat Mr. Obama that The New York Times wrote about this morning. Not only was this plan merely a proposal - one of several submitted to the Ending Spending Action Fund by third-party vendors - but it reflects an approach to politics that Mr. Ricketts rejects and it was never a plan to be accepted but only a suggestion for a direction to take. Mr. Ricketts intends to work hard to help elect a President this fall who shares his commitment to economic responsibility, but his efforts are and will continue to be focused entirely on questions of fiscal policy, not attacks that seek to divide us socially or culturally.

Although this statement suggests that using Wright "reflects an approach to politics that Mr. Ricketts rejects," it's worth noting that the actual proposal contains this line: "Joe Ricketts said it himself: 'If the nation had seen that [Jeremiah Wright] ad, they'd never have elected Barack Obama.'"

I think Republicans figured out that, if they bring up Obama's religion, they also have to bring up Romney's.

The far-leaning Christrian Right already doesn't like the idea of Romney being a Mormon, and reminding them will only cost Republicans more votes.

The rest of us refuse to vote for Romney because he's a JOBS CREMATOR.

Many of us who haven't voted Republican for decades will vote for Romney this time. Apparently in North Carolina where Obama won in 2008, the same sentiment is widespread. Most polls have Romney ahead in the state by double digits.

Road Warrior: "Most polls have Romney ahead in the state by double digits."

Actually, no they don't. Not even Rasmussen has him up by double digits, and most people rate NC as a tossup. But clearly NC would be one of the first Obama would lose if he doesn't do quite as well this time. But he didn't need it in 2008 and he doesn't need it in 2012.

Any time the incumbent is either tied or down by a few points, he is in big trouble. The 7 to 10% undecideds historically will vote for the challenger if they haven't made up their mind about the incumbent by now.

American Girl - Good points, couldn't agree more. I know a lot of fundamentalist Christians and I doubt they would support Romney anymore than Obama. They didn't like President Obama for obvious reasons and consider Romney's Mormon faith to be that of a cult. After listening to FOX, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and the hate that came from the 2008 McCain/Palin campaign, they would have voted for anyone other than Barack Obama.

RoadWarrior: complete nonsense. Look at the electoral map. Romney will do even worse than McCain unless he figures out how to rein in the fringers and tack to the center again. The economy is growing again, the wars are coming to an end and all your party has is vaginal probes, race attacks and electric fences. You're not going to win this thing by collecting up all the Obama haters. You actually have to have some ideas for governing and GOVERNOR Romney hasn't done too well in that department.

on my island..

once upon a time 3 shipwrecked castaways landed on a little island..

one started to pick the islands coconuts..

another husked the coconuts..

and they decided to go into business as, coconut inc., selling coconuts to the 3rd castaway..

later, 3 more castaways landed on the island..

the business for coconut inc. started to boom..

after a while, the 4 castaways loafing around and buying the coconut inc., products, decided that they needed to get into the action..

so, one decided to run for governor and another decided to run for mayor..

having the majority, they were easily elected..

so, the governor and the mayor started to pass laws to protect the environment, pricing, etc, and, of course they needed capital, so they taxed coconut inc.

the other two castaways did not want to work so they applied for the free stuff and were put on the government,s dole..

now, where do you think this story is headed?

chapter two will be forthcoming, do you know how it will end?..

welcome, to my island..

People get rickets from a lack of vitamin D, lots of sunshine is the best way to ward off this malady. To that end, might I suggest we find a beer garden and soak up some rays? Come to think of it, scurvy develops from a lack of vitamin C, as long as we're doing our level best to prevent any more rickets let's down some screwdrivers for the vitamin C and kill two birds with one stone.

We will probably have to go to war with China when we default on our loan. There is no way we can pay it all back, so we will just have to conquer them. Totally kidding, but what if it happens that way?

I think there is a very strong possibility China will own us someday via an economic takeover. Sad to say it might not be such a bad thing the way things are going.

Goodness gracious! Would everyone on here please GROW UP?! All this partisan bickering is enough to make me sick. I don't care about which sermons Obama went to, or about what Romney did as a teenager. What I would like is some fair and unbiased reporting. Is that to much to ask? If they are digging so far back into Romney's past to find dirt on him, there obviously isn't much dirt in the first place. Why have we not seen anything about Obama's high school and College days? If they are going to do it to one, do it to the other. If they are going to report on Obama's minister, report on Romney's minister too. Mormons don't follow the same Christian rhetoric as other Christian churches, so lets here about that. (They are good people who I think are Christians, but just happen to have some zany beliefs) If, and that is a big if, Romney can get the Presidency, I hope he takes a leaf out of his churches book and gets us financially solvent. The Mormon church is the richest church in the world with tons of humanitarian aid, and a welfare system that works to help people, while helping to get them off of it. It is what our welfare system should be modeled after because it is the only working welfare system in the world that I have seen.

Fiesty is just like this girl I knew in school that forced herself and her opinions on everyone, but no one really liked to be around. She was a loud, useful idiot if she had your same view, so she was tolerated. Tolerated is all anybody could do. Nobody really likes or wants to be around someone who is toxic and negative constantly. Poor Fiesty. I wonder if she spends all her time posting on these because she lacks people who really care about her in the real world. If you notice, she is always in the first wave of posters with a bunch of vile crap. I am surprised she hasn't been banned for her personal attacks that she levy's.

Did I say I wasn't going to use the JEREMIAH WRIGHT association with Barack Obama against Obama in the campaign? You know, JEREMIAH WRIGHT, Obama's long-time pastor (who surely controls Obama's brain)? JEREMIAH WRIGHT, that anti-American, anti-white "preacher" who damns America? Obama certainly feels America should be damned, as he was taught by JEREMIAH WRIGHT. For any of you who don't recall, JEREMIAH WRIGHT is the Chicago pastor who became Obama's spiritual father, and from whom Obama surely takes orders to destroy America. But don't worry JEREMIAH WRIGHT, I certainly don't plan on using your name, JEREMIAH WRIGHT, in any superPAC ad seeking to associate the America-hating Obama with your name, JEREMIAH WRIGHT. No worries. You won't see me using the name JEREMIAH WRIGHT to defame or criticize the President in any way, even though Obama's JEREMIAH WRIGHT association is surely questionable and likely means Obama shares a plan to bring down America with JEREMIAH WRIGHT. Don't worry, you won't see us using the name JEREMIAH WRIGHT in connection with BARACK OBAMA in this honorable campaign that we run. It'll be like all our other honorable, above-board campaigns in which we promise not to use names from a candidate's past such as JEREMIAH WRIGHT to try and embarrass a candidate.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH POINTING OUT THAT Obama chose to sit in a pew and listen to the RACIST, Anti- white, Anti-American rantings of the man for over 20 years? He, at the very least, tacitly supported everything that slob said, up until it became a political liability. How is pointing out that Obama belonged to an organization that was, and is, Racist, being Racist? So, what you're sayin is, when a white person speaks the truth and it points a finger at a black, that's racist. But when a black speaks that truth and it points at a white, that's justice?

Didn't Romney just give a commencement speech at Liberty University, founded by Jerry Falwell? The same Jerry Falwell who along with Pat Robertson said that God allowed 9-11 because of our "sins" like the ACLU and homosexuality?

Then Falwell said, "What we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact, God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve."

Robertson replied, "Well, Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror, we haven't begun to see what they can do to the major population."

Falwell said, "The ACLU has got to take a lot of blame for this. And I know I'll hear from them for this, but throwing God...successfully with the help of the federal court system...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the finger in their face and say you helped this happen."

Robertson said, "I totally concur, and the problem is we've adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government, and so we're responsible as a free society for what the top people do, and the top people, of course, is the court system."

How could Romney associate with such an un-American individual? I am sure Hannity and Rush were already all over this one, defending America.....crickets.......

When Romney quit college, he became a hot potatoe on being drafted in the Vietnam war. Daddy, daddy he hollers out. Daddy said don't worry son. I will get you into a Morman missionary job during the draft. Would France be okay son? Yes Dad, hurry and get me in France. Off Romney went in safe haven from being drafted during the draft. (A true draft dodger with Daddy's help.) Thinking of himself and not of America's needs.

Romney haven't changed an inch. It's the same: (Thinking of himself and not of America's needs.)

As many Americans did. I volunteered to serve my country and became a Vietnam war vet. I'm proud to be an American. In honor of the young adults that we lost in Vietnam, in honor of America. I only have one vote as everyone else haves. Vote your choice, it's America.

Missions weren't only used to draft dodge. You can spin it that way, but that is not true. Avoiding Vietnam was simply an added benefit of doing something he would have done anyways. Do your research and you will learn that almost all mormon boys go on missions when they turn 19. Romney has always been an active mormon and his mission was probably expected since he was born.

When you just want to keep in place programs that only benefit the rich at the expense of the 99% then you fund ads. He is probably meeting with the Koch brothers right now to adjust their strategy.

If they want to use Jeremiah Wright, that means we get to use Delbert Stapley:

1964 letter from Mormon Apostle Delbert Stapley to Michigan Governor George Romney:
                      http://mormonmatters.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/delbert_stapley.pdf

I am not against a Civil Rights Bill if it conforms to the views of the Prophet Joseph Smith according to the references above given. I fully agree the Negro is entitled to considerations, also stated above, but not full social benefits nor inter-marriage privileges with the Whites, nor should the Whites be forced to accept them into restricted White areas. In my judgment, the present proposed Bill of Rights is vicious legislation. There needs to be some modification. The position of the Church cannot change until the Lord changes it Himself. Certainly I am not for exploiting racial or religious prejudices, but it is the present play·up to the Negro voters which is unnecessarily creating problems that by a more firm, sensible approach can be avoided. There will be a few die-hard leaders, but then that has always been true with any debatable issue. Principle - religious or otherwise - cannot be abrogated for political expediency.

Now, don't think I am against the Negro people, because I have several in my employ. We must understand and recognize their status and then, accordingly, provide for them. I just don't think we can get around the Lord's position in relation to the Negro without punishment for our acts; going contrary to that which He has revealed. The Lord will not permit His purposes to be frustrated by man.

Mitt Romney's views about gays aren't that much different from the traditional Mormon view about blacks.

It's a history lesson during this GOP race. It a good example that a multi-millionaire can buy his way against his party. It started out with Fox News, republician leaders and the die-heart republican voters. We love Cain and hate the moderate Romney. We love Perry and hate the moderate Romney. We love Newt and hate the moderate Romney. We love Santorium and hate the moderate Romney.

Today I wonder who Romney cares about. His party that hated him or is this multi-millionaire only cares of himself?

It's an easy choice, even for someone who hasn't voted Republican for two decades. Anyone but Obama. If NC is any indication, Obama will be heading back to Chicago in 173 days. Obama won NC in 2008. Four years later, he is behind Romney by double digits. The Democrat governor is calling it quits after one term with a dismal 32% approval rating. The Dems are having their convention in Charlotte? Might want to relocate. LOL

i see nothing wrong in ricketts trying to
link obama to jeremiah wright; republicans tried it in the 2008 presidential
campaign and it didn't work. in my opinion ,the reason republicans are backing
off from making this link, is so that democrats don't retaliate and link the
"christian" romney to his grandad who was a mormon polygamist and his
father the child of polygamy. romney's grandad fled to mexico to escape from
being arrested and convicted of polygamy a felony crime in the u.s.a.and which
one of his grandad's many wives was really mitt romney's grandmother?and no
wonder mormon women are stay at home non-contraception moms, they have no other
choice but to stay at home to raise many babies from mormon men who once were
directed to have many babies from many wives but now are forced under u.s.a.
law to father those same number of babies from just one woman. does this mean
mitt the mormon would make a lousy president, not necessarily so. and as for
jeremiah wright, he's a phony namesake . he says that his namesake jeremiah was an
outspoken old testament hebrew prophet; but this prophet was unpopular among
his own Hebrew people for being outspoken against their behavior. this is where
wright's phoniness comes in; he's popular among his own black people for railing against the behavior of other
                            people!

This was a big diversion by the Obama 2012 Blame, Demean, and Divert campaign. After all this hoopla the only people who used this as an opportunity to attack was the Obama Campaign team along with their minions in the New York Times. This was just one more chance for Obama to slime someone who was donating to Romney.
