Vice President Joe Biden and Mitt Romney campaign in battleground states, House Speaker John Boehner raises the possibility of a new debt ceiling showdown, the Obama campaign announces April's fundraising numbers, and Crossroads GPS is running a new ad in battleground states. Having trouble getting posts to print up today on FR, so it's worth a try:
Folks will complain happily how they haven't seen President Obama's school record, when they know he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. Meanwhile, Romney will not supply tax records, after other presidential candidates have done so.
Meanwhile, Romney "does not remember" having a classmate pinned down in the Common Room and cutting off his hair.
Romney does not remember bullying, gay-bashing or calling out "Atta Girl", when his classmates told Washington Post that Romney's actions were "senseless, stupid, idotic and vicious".

You're not the only one Backhouse - waaay too many technical difficulties around here these days!
As for Boehner, I wonder who has been assigned to drag him kicking & screaming to the White House for lunch?
Feisty,
The New GOP party = intractable, no compromise, My-Way-Or-The-Highway, So-Get-Used-To-It.
Corporations cannot work out anything with that attitude, especially without input from workers on the shop floor - as the Right wing is finaigling.
Neither can a Congress, nor a country, nor a family.
Obama couldn't fiscally manage a wiener cart .... "LOL"

There is still one sucker out there who actually relies on Rasmussen polling .... "LOL"
You voted for Sarah Palin...twice .... "LOL"
There is a fly around here buzzing on Faux Entertainment non-factoids.
And it is constantly talking about other dude's 'weiners' -- now a HOT gop topic?
Debt Ceiling showdown?
But, but Obama said he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term.
Was he being dis-honest?
Oh and hey - I know you all saw that Obama is worth $10 million now, and has $1million parked at EEVVIILL JP Morgan.
Huh. I wonder why he did have any coin invested over with his best-est pal Corzine at MF Global?
Hey Tek - you ever wonder how many around here voted for Edwards? Somehow I doubt any would admit it, but we all know every single libbie here did.
Nice job gang, well played.
So what was that you were saying about Palin?
you'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to attend any luncheon where I'd have to listen to more broken promises from that guy! I'm sure the food will be expansive and expensive.... Obama is living the life of the 1%, the same crowd he would have you think he resents, lol!
No, hell no.
Yes, Barack Obama made some good $cash selling his books in the last few years.
Barack Obama is "living the life" of a 24/7 President --- the life of the secondbysecond media in the 21st Century.
Mitt Romney is 'living the life' of a $57,000 per day, 1%-er. And has been doing so for decades.
President Obama and his administration have been fighting for America, these last three years, while Republicans have been rooting for Depression, high unemployment, failing public schools, and the survival of Osama Bin Laden.
Oh and how nice - bigbenalaska brought Spanky with him. Two peas in a pod. Neither one of them has enough brainpower to push a grocery cart!
Feisty - I think Obama is much better off with Boehner not attending any luncheons. That way people can actually talk intelligently!
What do you mean, First Read? Republicans out here are denying that there ever WAS any such showdown.
Standard & Poors, on the other hand, believed that there was, and that's exactly why we were downgraded.
http://www.standardandpoors.com/ratings/articles/en/us/?assetID=1245316529563
Imagine pulling this again ... and in an election year. Given what happened last year in the market and with our credit rating, it seems to me that doing this again, knowing the de-stabilization that it would cause, would be tantamount to treason.
The stench of Chicago cronyism over the White House just got more foul. Inhale this:
A shadowy $10 billion Obamacare agency with zero oversight just awarded first lady Michelle Obama's pet patient-dumping scheme at the University of Chicago Medical Center a $5.9 million taxpayer-funded grant. It will enable Mrs. Obama's cronies to build a government-sponsored electronic medical record-sharing system.
The Chicago program, known as the Urban Health Initiative, is run by one of President Obama's closest golfing buddies, scandal magnet Eric Whitaker, who has been entangled with Illinois corruption celebrities Rod Blagojevich and Tony Rezko over the past decade.
Fun fact: Whitaker recently was named by author Edward Klein as the man who purportedly offered hate-mongering Rev. Jeremiah Wright $150,000 in hush money during the 2008 campaign.
You can bet if this subject comes up at lunch, Obama will need the heimlich maneuver performed on him! The guy is spending the country into a hole it can never get out of.....!
Tthe median income in Texas, is $10.80 an hour that's $21,600 for 2000 thousand hours a year, which means they don't owe any federal taxes. How is it that republicans all over the south in right to work for less and less and less states complain about federal taxes and spending but do not earn enough money to owe any federal taxes, why complain about something you don't pay, why do they complain how it is spent since they don't contribute, anything the federal government does for these people is strictly a matter of charity, or socialism if you prefer, now isn't it. They should complain about the fact that they don't make enough in wages to be able to contribute anything towards the costs of maintaining the strength and security of the nation they love so much.
I'm blaming all technical issues for the next week or two on sunspots. It may not be accurate, but it sounds more convincing that "gremlins"
I never voted for Edwards, Spanky, except when he was on the ballot with Kerry.
And I suppose you never voted for Palin when she was on the ballot with McCain, either.
Rub the Green -
You must be new around here, or you would know we don't quote from other sources without giving citations. I expect JoAnna will be along shortly to explain the term p-l-a-g-i-a-r-i-s-m to you.
Spanky -
Let's compare - Pres. Obama has most of his assets In US Treasury Bonds and a checking account at a US BANK. Romney has Swiss and Cayman Island bank accounts. Which one is more American?
Romney's plan for the US is about the same as his plan for companies acquired by Bain Capital - increase his personal wealth and that of his cronies by driving up the debt, leaving nothing left for pensions or other benefits for the workers.
Special recognition today to Spanky for 5 attempts at deflection in the same posting. Possibly a new record. Of course, no comment on the discussion of this thread but why would that change. No bullying yet but the day is young.
Exactly. GS Technologies, which Bain looted for $50 million, while leaving the company bankrupt with $44 million in unfunded pension benefits for the federal government to bail out, is perhaps the most succinct example of this.
Spanky-
I didn't vote Edwards :)
But I am motivated via public services, not weighted services.
As for Palin...that is one gruesome trainwreck of a family. I esp. love mommy-dearest influence on lil Bristol...lil Family-Oriented Bristol who just called her baby-daddy a 'date rapist' in no uncertain terms in her autobio.
That is some good ole-fashioned downhome family values at play right there.
From them red-blood republican 'Mericans up in north country.
Shucks, man, I feel a burning urge to get a monster-truck tattoo across my chest now and drink some Mad-Dog or Steel Reserve.
Poor Baby-daddy though...got paraded around during the 2008 Primary, then shooed away when he was no longer convenient. Good thing Pundit-Mommy makes 'nuff bacon to take care of her bastard grand-child, yeah?
Give him time - Amy is not around at the moment!
Obama did know most of the names of hero's from the Avenger movie on The View yesterday. They fight for America too. It's not known if the Avengers racked up $5 trillion in debt like Obama has, unless they are made to pay for the damage they caused to New York City.
Am - 'I never voted for Edwards except...
Ah shoot Steeler, I can do much better, cause is not First Read nothing but a distraction? Unless of course you are a politician or a political reporter.
Sorry gang, I'll take Palin over Edwards any day. She's got a nice rack, and she's not a felon/dirtbag/cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater.
So let's hear it for Edwards - the worst VP pick in recent memory. All politicians suck, including Gore, Quail and Palin, but none can match Edwards.
So AM - how about this enthusiasm gap in Wisc I've been reading about in Slate?
Is it that bad? Is that why the DNC has written your boy off?
Walker in a landslide, eh?
Damn, it really was not that long ago that all we heard about was 'the sleeper had awoken' and all that.
Now, all you all have is a fiscally sane situation up there. Good for you. Much better off than us here in the progressive paradise that is Cali.
Tek - Spanky spends too much time "Spankying" his monkey, or as the RWNJ's call it "slapping their little "One-eyed Republican" to ever get his facts and "Beckisms" straight.
You really need to do a little better factual research, Spanky. Things are not exactly as you seem to be hearing them. But the chickens will eventually come home to roost.
As for the DNC, I haven't had any use for it since Howard Dean left. So don't try to hang that on me.
Spanky - why does it not surprise me that you refer to Palin's "rack". What a bumblin idiot!
Rub of the Green - the grant was one of 26 made nationwide to various hospitals. For those ignorant people like you who think this was because of Michelle Obama - UofC Hospitals are rated as among the top 10 in the country. They are constantly singled out for their excellence. A grant to this group actually makes sense to those with a brain!
OOOOOhhhh burn GT.
You know, it's almost like you don't know my name isn't really Spanky.
Huh. Oh well - as much fun as it is, I'm off to La Haina's, a lovely bar with a large deck on the Mission Beach boardwalk.
It's just a lovely day so should be nothing but beer, burgers and bikinis.
You all have fun now.
Oh and GT - I haven't watch Beck since he left CNN, but damn is Chris Matthews a hoot. First came his statement to the black pastor that his views should 'evolve' then his fantastic performance on Jeopardy.
Too funny, particularly after his many comments about Palin and Jeopardy.
Now, if we could just get Big Eddy Schultz to play Jeopardy. A real hoot, that'd be. But alas, Big Ed knows his limitations on that score.
A couple with two kids making $26,400 will not owe a dime in federal taxes, in many casses SS benefits are non taxable, so again there are a lot of old TP members and Right to work for less and less and less workers, who sure love to complain about taxes and spending but don't actually pay a dime in federal taxes.
[Now, if we could just get Big Eddy Schultz to play Jeopardy.]
The MSNBC dolts could never win at Jeopardy unless the categories were 1) "Hating Republicans" 2) "Hating Palin" 3) "Cheney's Heart or Lack of It" 4) "Liberals Lip Imprints on Obama's Butt" 5) "Talking Points" 6) "Bush's Faults"

Spankers -
Are you sure you're just getting back from "La Haina's. That post sounded like you already had one too many.
Obama/Biden - 2012
SpankMe,
Politics is just a big joke to you, isn't it? Say what you will about John Edwards cheating on his wife, he advocated for uninsured people, which was Elizabeth's cause as well, while Republicans ignored the issue and the rise in income inequality which has lead to what Edwards famously called the "Two Americas."
Serious people focus on issues in politics, knuckleheads like you treat elections like it's Dancing With The Stars. But if you want to fight on the grounds of personality, I will happily say this: Edwards cheated on his wife, but Romney cheated on America, out-sourcing jobs as a Bain Capital executive and stashing his millions in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes.
Oh precious Amy. With you and other liberals it's all about what liberals advocate, not what they do. Obama advocated for cutting the deficit in half by the end of his first term. He also advocated that if he didn't have the economy turned around after his 3rd year he'd be a one term president. Ya'see Amy, advocating isn't good enough. Results are what matter.
So please continue with your pity party for Johnny Edwards. I'm certain all your libbie friends will join you while you wallow in the Edwards mud.
Or they go on The View and answer questions about The Avengers or yuck it up with Jimmy Fallon.
Good afternoon everyone
had technical problems too
I can't believe the kicking and screaming Tea sucking Koch baggars would want to pull this debt ceiling debacle AGAIN. Obviously, they think the American people have amnesia.
Yeah we all know Romney will put people to work and solve the deficit, by cutting taxes, because that's how you pay your bills, by lowering your income. You see less will turn into more! It worked before, oh wait it has never worked yet, never-mind.
Oh my Amy, I really think you jumped the shark on this one.
I've said it many times, if you come to this site for anything other than the entertainment, you're missing the whole point.
Serious people focus on issues? Really?
Sorry Ames, Politics may not be a joke, but most Politicians are. How can anyone take you seriously when you gush about the Presidents singing voice, his looks, the burning coals, the fact that you have a picture of him on your desk?
Don't let what the idiots do in Washington define who you are. I am sure you are better than that.
In all honesty...
I think Obama has turned the economy around.
When he took office, we were shedding jobs and losing GDP growth.
Now we're adding jobs (albeit slowly) and have a positive GDP growth.
So...it might not be as 'around' as you want, but he went from negative stats to positive. Them's the facts.
Boehner, bring it on! One of these days that blubbering drunken fool is going to fall flat on his face, so let's save him the disgrace and take back the House for the Dems!
To the media, two things. First, let's publish exactly the record of Republicans in Congress since 2008. What have they been busy doing all this time? We know it wasn't job creation.
Second, do some research and find people who worked with Romney, especially when he was governor. We have heard he was a jerk during the Olympics, and we know he has tried to cover his tracks with missing hard drives, etc., but where is the truth of what he would be if elected?
Just saw it -- Walker with a lead over Barret? You gotta be kiddin' me. Fellow Americans, we are no longer a democracy if "Divide and Conquer" douchebags like Scott walker are running this nation. Wisconsin -- get out the vote and rid yourselves of Walker, and then rid the nation of Paul Ryan!
This tactic has never worked for the GOP. Clinton gained support through Congress' recalcitrance, and this Congress has become the most unpopular in history because of their determination to push the United States off a cliff into bankruptcy.
This could be the tactic that gets the president reelected by a landslide. We could also get a Democratic Congress as a result. This is a bad, bad idea Boehner.
Only in the dreams of the left wing nuts will the democrats regain control of the House and will probably become the minority party in the Senate. But you on the left just keep dreaming. The democrats have nothing to run on except "blame Bush and Bain Capital". DOJ now is talking about going after Zimmerman but can't seem to come up with the documents requested by congress in the "Fast and Furious" hearings. DOJ is a joke under Holder, he needs to go, another good reason to vote against Obama.
Fast and furious was started by Bush and the republicans. When are you going to ask them to explain what they did? I know just because it was a continued bush program it is all the democrats fault.
Just like the deficit and everything else was just fine until we elected a democratic president.
Republicans are now willing to let everyone in America suffer to protect Romney and his rich friends from paying their fair share.
The Ryan budget is the same policies they pushed in England and they are entering into another recession. We know the republicans pushed a war of choice, but a recession of choice. Then they want you to believe they are the smart party.
If republicans were so smart they would not have taken surpluses and turned it into the largest deficit in our history with a recession in less than 8 years. But apparently protecting the rich is more important than protecting America.
VOTE FOR AMERICA...VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
sfcret - only in the small little minds of the far right will the GOP continue to have a dominant role in Congress. Americans have watched them butcher the American dreams of many to help the very few continue to rape and pillage. We know that killing the middle class will kill the country and are determined to keep that from happening!
AF, Don't you posters on the left ever get tired of blaming Bush and the Republicans for everything? Fast & Furious was an operation started after Holder became Attorney General and Obama was sworn in as President.
SeekingSanity, If you are so positive that the democrats will take control of the House and retain the Senate I will again challenge you to what I did before, that is if the democrats take control of the House or Senate I will quit posting on First Read and if they don't you have to quit posting on First Read. You refused a month or so ago but maybe you have more confidence now.
The Weeper of the House must be feeling the heat from the TeaPeople.
He's only trying to save his own hide, not do what's right for the country!
While Obama is out to destroy the middle class to create larger government dependant voter base rather than do what is right for the country.
Huh?
There are 35,000 fewer non-military government employees under the Obama Administration, than there were under President Reagan.
Note that since Reagan, the population of U.S.A. has increased by 100,000,000. One hundred million more people since Reagan.
The 'bloated government' claim from the right is utter mahoney.
Rocco-2976776 says...."While Obama is out to destroy the middle class to create larger government dependant voter base"
What has the President done to 'destroy the middle class'?..
Obama couldn't fiscally manage a wiener cart .... "LOL"

chilled,
GOP senators/McConnell requires 60 votes, even to bring a measure to the floor for DEBATE.
They have filibustered at 3 times the pace EVER SEEN in American history.
As for helping the middle class: GOP did not allow the two million jobs in the President's American Jobs Act, even to come up for debate.
I agree with ya', Backhouse.
Rocco leveled the charge against President Obama and I asked him/her what has the President done.
The TeaPeople are priceless when it comes to lies!
Agreed.
e.g. bigb 'weiner' alaska - above.
Big Ben Alaska -
Just like Romney you have no new ideas - you just keep posting the same old tired, inaccurate, misleading information. You even follow it up with a stupid "LOL" just like Romney's nervous, inappropriate laughter. "wiener cart - LOL. Economic policy - LOL."
Romney is the best candidate the Republicans can come up with? I would "LOL" if the idea wasn't just so S-A-D.
Did this back and forth really just take place?:
Chilled: I agree with ya' Backhouse.
Backhouse: Agreed.
LOL
- u would never do anything like that -
zxv
.
Easy chilled. Increased debt and attacked businesses who employed the middle class with increased costs and regulations as part of his hopey changy thing.
What's that Rocco?..
Again, forget the 'talking points' about debt/regulations/hopey changy---LIES-----...and state what President Obama has done.
Lies? He didn't increase the debt? He didn't increase business costs with Obamacare? He didn't tax medical devise makers increasing their costs? Wow, you libbies really are delusional.
Exactly what regulations do you speak of? I hear this talking point over and over, but no one has yet to name ONE regulation that is hurting businesses. Yes, it costs factories more to clean their exhaust, but would you rather pay for Medicare emphesyma treatments? If you want to see what loose and unenforced regulations on business do to people, visit China sometime.
Hey Rocco, Has Obamacare gone into effect yet that has cost anybody anything?
Obamacare will be fully in effect in 2014, when 30 million folks who never had health care before - will finally have it.
Bachhouse, chilled, GT - please don't state facts to Rocco. It totally confuses him and he loses his place in the GOP talking points.
Backhouse - and people with pre-existing conditions will be allowed to get the coverage they so desperately need.
SS - you are sssane! Yes,
Obamacare is working very well already. Kids can stay on their parents hc plan until they're 26 years old. Free preventive screenings, care, mammograms etc. Cheaper meds for seniors. Children with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied. No caps or cut offs.
Now, insurance companies must provide you in healthcare 80% of what you pay, or REBATE the money.
Used to be 80% of what we paid in premiums went to insurance company "overheads". While we got the scraps.
Anyone fighting on here against the ACA has either got shares, can afford their private deluxe hc plan, OR they have magical crystal balls telling them they will NEVER get sick.
I get tired of hearing about "increased regulations" that no one can list. There are several examples of EPA regulations that Obama has reduced or eliminated that make it easier for small businesses to operate. Where are these supposed "job killing regulations"?
I also keep hearing that "Obama is the most divisive President ever". Another right-wing talking point that has no basis in fact. What has Obama done to divide the country - other than being elected?
TNSEVOL - Obama is the most divisive President because the GOP refused to work with him. Not quite sure how that becomes Obama being divisive but you know the GOP can't reason!
Hey Folks - remember - the GNOP doesn't believe in facts..in fact..facts lie,,,,
GNOP - "THEY CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH"!
The government worshipping liberals think all you have to do is pass a debt ceiling bill, and voila, trillions more in spending is released...it is all free money to the libbies.
Typically clueless, the idea is that you raise the debt ceiling and all our fiscal woes are forgotten.
How stupid.
Completely vaccuous and untrue.
As one of your convenient "others", I can tell you that is not what Democrats think.
Hey V-Bob, By reading your post, I see you've been chasing wind mills again, "Oh Man of LaMancha".
Rightwing ideologues believe you can have a world class military, a strong enough infrastructure to support manufacturing, and enough healthy, eucated workers to drive an economy, without collecting taxes to pay for it. They think the most powerful country in the world runs on charitable donations and Chinese investment in our real estate.
GT - please, the man of LaMancha could run circles around V-Bob.
Typical TeaPeople.....run up the credit card debt then don't want to pay for the debt......
Wars, Bush tax rates, MEDICARE D (all continue)........Unfunded
In 2008 I saw the stock market crash coming and moved my 401K money to a guaranteed account. While everyone in my office lost half their savings, I did not.
Now I see that the Romney/Ryan budget would create another recession in America. Only this time the republicans want the people to suffer by literally taking food out of the mouths of children. Of course when the recession that the republicans voted to create happens, they will blame everyone but themselves.
Just like the deficit that the republicans voted to create. It was the first time in our history where republicans were giving tax cuts to the richest during time of war. Responsible leaders who care about America would have raised taxes not cut taxes.
To this day the republicans still don't care about America. They would rather send America into another recession than ask the rich for even one thin dime. The republicans would rather borrow money from China than ask the rich for even one thin dime.
Just like at home, don't you go and borrow money rather than ask your rich husband to contribute to the bills?
VOTE FOR WOMEN'S FREEDOM...VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT 2012
Not much these days from First Read and our resident moonbats about the Scott Walker recall.
That's because the polls show the recall is losing.
Overreaching thuggish unions have fired up Wisconsin's voters to send them a message!
whats up with that Bob?
its posted and the bashing has begun lol
Speaking of the national debt ceiling, everyone remembers it was the TEA-Republicans who held the nation hostage over the "Debt Ceiling" creating the "Debt Crisis" which up to Obama's administration was a simple "House keeping chore." Now, Boehner calls for another trip to the precipice threatening the economy again. It seems the TEA-Republican's haven't learned from Gingrich's debacle in Clinton's term. Obama will win in November and the deficit will be addressed properly with the expulsion of confrontational TEA party members. Romney, Cantor, Ryan and the TEA-Republicans can run on the economy. The caustic, confrontational TEA party segment have made their goal to keep Obama from a second term and have worked endlessly to accomplish that goal. Life goes on and Congress continues to hold the economy hostage again threatening to shut down the government for the sixth time. Repeated calls for reducing the deficit has not fallen on deaf ears, but reducing the deficit while protecting the super-rich from increases in taxes falls on deaf ears. Equalization of tax pains is tantamount on fixing the budget in-balance.
Well I have been reading some of the Posts and I have to say that the left is out in force today. Most likely is because of the Polls that show Mitt tied or in front of the President. I do have to add that I haven't seen to many insults from the usual like Feisty or Gin Mama or Bev in Chicago. That is good news.
Let's take it Home. My husband and I have cut our expenses by .25 and our debt by .25 for the last past 2 years and are now doing much better. Why does not the Presient do the same in his house. Look, he has sepent us into hell and back and he still not finished.
Concern Citizen - OOOOOh too bad you apparently weren't concerned when Bush started the downward spiral of the budget. Perhaps you and your husband didn't decide not to work together to accomplish your goals - as the GOP did with Obama. My guess is neither of you said they would do anything to see the other one fail. Not saying that's what happened - just a guess!
My other guess is you two didn't decide to cut your income during this time. See how that works? Stupid!
To SeekingSanity:
Hey Insanity you are the stupid one, since you do not know how to read, obviously. If you would stop occupying your toilet you would have more time to learn. People like you should be ignored so you are gone.
I do not like to insult but you asked for it first.
Concern Citizen - read the entire post and, again, you are the stupid one. You worked together instead of fighting against the other as the GOP has done. Understand now?
There is no sanity in the GOP and you've proved it - again!
The Oompa Loompa Union is about to go on wildcat strike against the economy again. Of course if they tank the U.S. credit rating, they will have something else to use against the president.
