WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Making her first appearance on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, Senator Kelly Ayotte, a New Hampshire Republican, said she is more ready to be president than Barack Obama was when he was a sitting senator.
"I have, some would say, better experience than Barack Obama had when he was a senator and ran” for president, Ayotte told David Gregory.
The freshman senator and former attorney general for New Hampshire, Ayotte said having served as the "chief law enforcement officer" of her state and on the Senate Armed Services Committee has given her that experience needed to be president – or perhaps vice president.
New Hampshire's junior senator has been discussed as a potential vice presidential pick for the presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Romney. Asked whether she would "like to be on the ticket" with Romney in November, Ayotte didn't shut down the idea.
"Well it's an honor to be mentioned in that vein but my focus is on serving New Hampshire and there's so many good candidates out there that Gov. Romney has to choose from," Ayotte said, recalling the names of two fellow senators, as well -- Marco Rubio of Florida and Rob Portman of Ohio. "So he's got a lot of great choices."
Last week, Romney held an event with Ayotte in Portsmouth, N.H. which was viewed by many as a tryout of sorts for the no. 2 spot on the Republican ticket.
Romney campaigns with Ayotte in New Hampshire amid short list speculation
This morning speaking on Decision 2012 roundtable at Meet the Press, Ayotte said Romney must choose a VP with whom he is comfortable, who is ready to serve as president, and who brings to the ticket not only geographical benefits but also knowledge of the issues.

Ayotte, stop throwing red meat. The mess your party left for Obama to clear up, and which he is doing pretty well is enough to tell you he has what you dont have and will never have. Is this the way you seek favorability for a VP choice. Stop it and come clean lady?
Why do you liberals feel the need to show your ignorance daily? Everybody but you seems to know that the policies that led to the economic meltdown of 2008 were put in place by the democrats of the 90s
Guess what? It doesn't really matter which party initiated the economic crisis we are in right now! What DOES matter is that President Obama is doing all he can to reverse the damage, despite constant obstruction from Congress. The economy IS recovering, albeit slowly ~ imagine what the results would/could have been had partisanship been put aside for the good of this great nation!
Sticks & Stones
We would probably be close on the heels of Europe economically. The country would be in much deeper debt and inflation would be much, much worse than it is now. I suspect unemployment would be in double digits and there would probably be rioting in the streets.
The only good thing Obama has done was to extend the Bush Tax Cuts. If not for that there would probably be no economic growth at all.
And the media just goes along with this nonsense. Of course corporations own media and making over 2 billion on these elections so like I say just a spectator sport and no real solutions to our problems. We truthfully are seeing what happens when corporations take over our government and airwaves and keep the masses dumb downed and distract them with sports and celebrity versus teaching more responsibility and civics. I read years ago not dealing with overpopulation we would see the breakdown of society. The revolution needs to be leaderless because this lady like anyone says follow me or Obama or Romney or some other bozo and I will take care of the situation. What a joke we cannot keep up with this globalization and this corrupt political system is not responding or know how. All we get is mass marketing to take a pill for this or that and the side affects are worse than the cure. To think a company is allowed to even advertise such crap but hey we are just guinea pigs and corporations do not care about you or me. They make money off of people's weaknesses, get you sick then make money off you saying they will cure you with doctors and more pills. It is about us becoming more responsible and taking care of our bodies and stop abusing our planet. It is not sustainable and we cannot afford to pay for this system that is so out of touch.
I and other probably would be better Presidents as long as we did not have money telling us what to do. Lawyers are just bull@!$%#ters and have no business background.
This lady senator is wanting the VP job bad, it practically killed her saying there are other candidates out there who are qualified. I like the way she thinks she is more qualified to be the President then Obama, please lets keep this one as far from the Presidency as we can.
Ayotte latched onto Sarah Palin to ride her crazy train to the top. Ayotte was simply a District Attorney for NH. She stepped out from behind her desk to prosecute a high profile case in which a NH police officer, Michael Briggs, was shot and killed. Of course the low life was convicted and Ayotte acted like only she could have gotten the conviction. During her campaign, other than ads with her jogging, she had the Briggs family participate in a political ad. It ran a few times but NH citizens didn't take too kindly to her grand standing and seeking political gains with the death of a NH police officer.
She is a perfect match for Romney. She can talk out of both sides of her mouth. Her professing her desire to serve the good people of NH is a crock. If the opportunity arises that Ayotte can jump further into the lime light she won't look back.
I have no use for Palin but, Ayotte takes the cake. Once the Tea-publicans got all ginned up and Ayotte coned enough people to vote for her, she turned on Palin and wouldn't even acknowledge Palin coming to NH on her behalf.
Ayotte is a self serving parasite and a huge phony. The only thing she can claim to having more experience on is she is a die hard Tea-publican and will say and do anything that will benefit her. NH, not so much.
The president of IBM had far more experience in both business and computers than did Bill Gates and Steve Jobs back in the 1980's. They cleaned his clock.
The salient fact is you don't have Barack Obama's intellect or his judgment.
So True Ian.
I am sure Mitt will choose a woman for VP. But good luck to find the right one. While almost all Republican women in politics are saying what is scripted for them to say, especially about women choices. Republican women- politicians are on the wrong side of the problem (because they had given no choice) from far right "dudes", but to say stupid things against the US women.
Alina77
I have more than a little trouble understanding why a woman would defend the leftist liberals. They have shown more than once their willingness to relentlessly and mercilessly attack any woman that disagrees with their agenda. Many times they make false and/or misleading statements and then attribute them directly to the women they oppose.
This is sad Rick (the dude) that you don't understand that this is not about Republican women or Liberal, its about women. Happened that in resent years Republican women that have power in Congress are not standing with "any" women, because of ideological barrier that is stands between them. Dudes in Congress are ruling.
Relax lady's, men are in charge.
It is also sad that Alina77 thinks it is their responsibility to define what politics women (or anyone) should subscribe to but that seems to be sop for liberals.
Who says Kelly is a woman?
Do you have trouble understanding what you read?

Not to worry folks. Mitten$ said last week that he would have unemployment at 4% with , was it 400,000 new jobs a month? Hw wants my vote. To get it he would have to actually tell me how he would accomplish that? Selling his houses? His wifes Cadillacs? Firing his gardening staff? Hiring George Bush as a job solver in chief? Instituting another TARP and then passing it down to the next President? Making sure that women are told what they can and cannot do? Continue to praise No Child Left Behind even though it was a total failure? Going to Michigan and lecturing us that the auto bailout was immoral but now we are acutally hiring people again and in some cases even working 3 shifts a day? Mitten$ has a lot of talking to do before he could possibly get my vote.
I watched Kelly Ayotte on Meet the Press. She is undoubtedly the most clueless person on the panel. She repeated the same old talking points which had no substance, her opinion of self worth is amazing. She fit in with the rest of the ass clowns in her party.
Ayotte refused to investigate a $100 million mortgage ponzi scheme in NH during the mid 2000's. Citizens lives were destroyed and home were lost. She did nothing. The following AG of NH launched an investigation as well as a Joint State Legislative committee and both came to the conclusions that she failed to investigate reports of abuse and that she needs to be held responsible. She also was criticized for allegedly violating ABA standards in her prosecution of the defendant in a trial for the murder of a police officer. She also deleted a cache of emails prior to leaving the AG office that were meant to be retained for public record.
Yes, she's ready to be president. She's just as lazy and corrupt as any politician.
Didn't Romney learn anything from McCain. Sarah Palin all over again...
So far, at least, we haven;t heard the NH equivalent of seeing Russia from her house. England? Doubtful. Canada? Could be.
About Republicans for Obama
Republicans for Obama is a grassroots organization of proud party members who all share one important trait— we are Americans first and Republicans second.
Founded in late 2006 as part of the nationwide effort to encourage then-Senator Obama to run for the Presidency, our volunteer-run, grassroots group now includes thousands of members from across the nation. Together, we represent a cross-section of the millions of Republican and conservative independents who support President Obama's reelection in 2012.
Although we have campaigned, worked for, and voted Republican all our lives, we recognize that President Obama is the right leader for our country at this time. Our current Republican leadership is unable to stand up to the most extreme elements in our party, no matter the circumstance. Meanwhile, President Obama has challenged his own party on numerous issues, including taxes, healthcare and foreign policy. President Obama has forged a pragmatic, common-sense path forward during a challenging time.
President Obama has rejected the politics of division and the win-at-all-costs attitude that has hurt our ability to move forward as a nation. While we as Republicans will not always see eye to eye with President Obama, we know that his politics of unity is the only way forward for America.

What a bunch of lost, confused losers!
Never heard of Aoyett before "Meet The Press." However, her opinion of herself sure seems braggish; patting herself on the back. And this is the first time I've heard Bill Clinton got us into this mess we are in. Repubs are in denial. They seem to think if they repeat their lies over and over again, people will start believing it. Even if Pres. Obama's only accomplishment was managing the scenerio to get bin Laden, I would vote for him. Anyone with a heart would be grateful for ridding the world of such scum as bin Laden who managed his team to wipe out about 3,000 people on our soil and caused so much heartbreak for their families. Instead, the Repubs are whining that the president is going around bragging about it.....sounds to me like they are chapped because they can't claim it happened on their watch. They are not big enough to send the president, his team and the Seals a "thank you" note for getting the job done. Our military is great!
About Democrats for Romney. The following video pretty much says it all.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Democrats4MittRomney
Some one from New Hampshire doesn't have to know or do much to be above anyone else from New Hampshire. You are where you are because no one else was dumb enough to fill the poistion.
Does this idiot really mean better or more experience. The New hampshire dummies ar not really well known for literature or its meaning.
Hey, I'm from NH and I'm far from dumb. Just like the rest of the country, we had Ayotte getting us jobs, blah, blah, blah. She ran the incumbent out with Teapublican pathological lies. Just like the rest of the zombie voters in 2010, she was elected.
She can talk out of both sides of her mouth with Romney and the rest. She is a self serving parasite. The only experience she has is being the District Attorney. Came out into the lime light in 2006 to prosecute a cop killer. She was more interested in gaining political attention and actually put her own self interests ahead of the officer. She even had the audacity to make a political ad featuring the dead officer's family. Didn't run much because we know a fraud when we see one.
Based on your comment Ed, I guess there are plenty dummies across the country.
My golden retriever isn't too bright, but is more qualified than Obama to be president.
Geez, how long did it take you to come up with such a ridiculously insignificant, juvenile statement? You and Alaska's Big Ben must be related. Just sayin' ~
Sorry, Ms. Ayotte! But, Jon Huntsman had more experience than the entire republican primary field combined and he was one of the first thrown under the bus by his own party. Please, don't hold your breath. Experience and intelligence will not even get you a ticket to your own party's convention. Too bad.
Gotta' agree with you about Jon Huntsman! I was so disappointed when he was eliminated from the race. He is articulate, intelligent, educated, knowledgeable, diplomatic, and experienced in foreign affairs (I understand that the economy is and should be the top priority right now, but ignoring foreign relations, IMO, is a mistake). I am a left-leaning independent, voted for Barack Obama in 2008, and hoped for a genuine Republican candidate who would make this electoral race interesting and challenging for not only the nominees but also for voters, a race worth researching and following. Needless to say, I am disappointed in the presumptive Republican choice.
I hope Jon runs for President in 2016. Once we clear the infestation in Washington later this year, we should have learned a very significant lesson. Voting by party will get you a Romney and even he isn't wanted.
If we want the best for the country, we need to vote for the best candidate. Our voting system has worked for hundreds of years. However, except for a few old farts in Congress, we are now in the 21st century. More than time for a change in the status quo
Another Republican "know it all"! Where in the hell were these "EXPERTS" during their 8 previous years of FAILED GOVERNMENT RULE! The 99% American People KNOW WHERE, you & your other corrupt corporate MONARCH political puppets, like exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH, were too busy trying to figure out how to make BIGGER SLAVES of the 99% Americans!
99% Americans, vote STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC, the lives you save WILL be YOURS & your CHILDREN!!
Amen to that!!!!
Obama was obviously an exception-candidates are not normally going to ascend to the Presidency with the experience or lack thereof that Obama had. By saying that she is more experienced than Obama was, Kelly is telling us that she does not have enough experience and it is worrying her.
ayotte,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, who ?????????
And, if she feels she is that qualified why did she not run for president. So I guess it is a slam dunk. This will be Romney's pick as VP.
For those that keep posting "What has Obama done" you need to move forward into this decade with the rest of us and stop living in the past - as bigbenalaska so eloquently stated "Where have you been?" The President as done a fantastic job considering the hand he was dealt coming into office. I don't know about you but the last two times the Republicians have tried the "trickle down economics" they ended up only hurting the mid-class and putting this country further in debt.
Kelly is not a witch! She just dabbled in, oops wrong right wing chick who is blatantly insignificant.
Witch no. Biatch yes.
very true but then you dont have a nobel peace prize for absolutely no reason lol
Saw her interview. She is better qualified than Abraham Lincoln or George Washington too. So what. If being a good businessman made you qualified to be president we would just elect the most successful person in the country. Obama has his faults and has certainly made mistakes (unlike his republican opponents) but this problem we have financially is as much republican as it is democrat. The last thing any republican wants to talk about is G. W. (who would have killed for Obama's employment numbers) I did not vote for Obama but this crying and carping by the other side without offering any tangible solutions is getting a little old.
I watched her on tv yesterday, I was not impressed. She regugitates the party line and has no real original ideas on any policy issue, its basically the economy is Obama's fault, not the 12 years of deregulation and economic policy implementation that preceded Obama's election. Complete denial of any mistakes made by the republican party during the Bush years. A true leader would acknowledge where the mistakes were made and address measures needed to correct the situation. Her answers are to return to Bush years economic policies. She's perfect for Romney.
