NJ Gov. Chris Christie: 'Government is out of control'

WASHINGTON -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday urged Washington lawmakers to speak honestly with the American people, warning the public may not like the solutions necessary to fix the country's economic woes, but "they know in their heart they have to accept it."

"Don't tell me the American people aren't ready to hear the truth.  They know our government is out of control," Christie said at the CATO Institute's Milton Friedman Awards dinner.  "They know our debt and our deficit is out of control.  And don't confuse them liking the solution to them accepting it.  They don't have to like it, but they know in their heart they have to accept it."

The Garden State governor has found himself in the midst of speculation that he could be a top contender to be chosen as presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney's running mate.  Since endorsing Romney in the fall, he has been one of the former Massachusetts governor's top surrogates, and his speech here to the conservative think tank sounded like a politician on the national stage.

Christie said his leadership in New Jersey should be an example for the country, telling the story of how his state is battling back from some of the bleakest of economic times.  He used an executive order to overcome the $2.2 billion budget shortfall he faced shortly after taking office in 2010.

The tough talking governor recalled for the crowd his options in overcoming the deficit.  "I could sit down and negotiate with the Democratic leadership and the Democratically controlled legislature to try to come to an agreement on these cuts, or, thanks to New Jersey's unique Constitutional structure, cut spending through executive order," he said.

"Now, for those of you who watched me over the past two and a half years, if you believe I chose the former, then it is now time for you to leave.  You are note smart enough to be here at the Milton Friedman Dinner."

The popular conservative, who mulled over his own presidential run, is often talked about in vice-presidential speculation because of his ability to excite the party base and record as a cost cutter in his home state.  But he also is a lightening rod who could alienating independent voters with his in your face approach to politics.

"The great thing about operating by executive order is, first, that I didn't have to tell anybody," Christie said.

Christie has at times been a polarizing figure in New Jersey, but he maintains his way of doing business is something the federal government can learn from.

"Leaders have an obligation to make those tough choices. In New Jersey that is what we're trying to do.  And in the process hopefully set an example for the rest of the country," he said.

"Believe me, if you can do this in New Jersey, you can do it anywhere."

Thomas Jefferson:

“The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.”

Startling isn’t it? Look around you; his worst nightmare is becoming our reality – on a global scale.

"Gentlemen! I too have been a close observer of the doings of the Bank of the United States. I have had men watching you for a long time, and am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country.

When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin!

Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I have determined to rout you out, and by the Eternal, (bringing his fist down on the table) I will rout you out."

Friends – Citizens of the World – Countrymen – LEND ME YOUR EAR

Beware the Lame-Duck Congress

It is a shame how corrupt the American Main Stream Press really is and how they refuse to tell the truth about how the government manipulates even the economic statistics. I have stated before, when we were first looking to open up offices outside the USA, I had lunch with a client who was the head of a major Swiss bank in Geneva. The names we were going to use would have been European. He asked me to name one foreign analyst. I was embarrassed since I could not. He told me then that the reason everyone used Princeton Economics was because European analysts were biased. If he was British it was God Save the Queen, as the French screamed Vive la France, and the Germany hailed the Fatherland. He said Americans were the only ones who did not care whether dollar rose or fell.

The American Main Stream Press has devolved into a corrupt nonsense of disinformation. They see telling the truth about government is somehow unpatriotic. So alas; we now have the same problem and it is widespread. The Wikipedia page on me is the most flipped page on the net. Someone puts on links to articles; they are quickly taken off and replaced with only the government’s side. When Sara Palin made her stupid remark that Paul Revere warned the British instead of the Americans and got the whole story wrong, the Wikipedia page on Paul Revere quickly changed to support what she had said. Even Wikipedia is by no means unbiased. Its cover the non-political stuff but when it too comes to exposing the truth on government or politics, it is becoming the Internet Version of Pravda.

We face tremendous chaos at the end of this year and I believe as we hit September, people will start to look at what will happen and scream – OH @!$%#! For you see, the corruption in Washington has already planned how to screw you and the world big time. The Bush Tax Cuts expire at the end of the year. Taxes on investment will rise from 15% to 40%. That should help to kill the economy pretty good. The committee that was bipartisan and was supposed to compromise to cut the spending was a joke. They carved out what would not be touched and that was it. It will be allowed to take effect in January on an automatic basis. For you see, everything was pushed off into the LAME DUCK Congress just after the elections. That will give cover for politicians to claim they had nothing to do with it but vote for them in 2016 and they will reverse it.

Obama will win and, quite honestly, the Republicans want him to. Why? They will blame him for the cuts and tax increases. There is very little difference between the left and the right. They agree on one thing – government should have supreme power. It may be for different initial reasons, one to get the rich and the other to create the pure blood American race with no additional foreigners. However, both supported the Patriot Act eliminating search warrants, the secret Utah Installation vacuuming up all emails and phone calls (Britain announced it will do the same), and both support suspending your passport if the government is investigating your finances without just cause. Then, the same bill seeks to activate the black box in your car that records everything. It will tell the government how fast you drove. This is coming in MAP21 under the pretense that it will now become a federal issue if you drive after having a drink. Everything about your driving speed, how long you parked and where is recorded. It is there right now in the computer chip. Now government wants to be able to use that for fines.

They need money desperately! The Lame Duck Congress will do anything and that includes re-electing Obama. Do you really think they want a Republican President to win right now? They are building the American version of the Berlin Wall under the pretense to keep Mexicans and terrorists out, who can still get in when they need to. They did succeed in reducing American tourism by more than $600 billion annually. However, the real purpose is to keep you and your money within reach of a government that is going broke rapidly. So don’t look for a discussion in the Main Stream Press. They have been paid to keep their mouth shut. I get my info direct from the bowels of Capitol Hill. We will have a shocking surprise to announce in the next 60 days.

Looks to me like the only thing out of control in this country is the GOP/TP.....they don't know which end is up anymore. They need to look in the mirror to find blame.

But...you ARE the government, Fatty!

Kind of like Paul LePage criticizing all public officials in Maine for being "corrupt" because he knows he's in trouble. And an abusive man will blame everyone immediately around him for doing the very same thing that he does to everyone else.

There is no excuse for abuse!

I said it first.

That's an under statement cause this President claims to have the ability to investigatively control or destroy any innocent US citizens using a military grade satellite while federal agents swear the reaction it provokes can not be their cause as neighbors then immediately start saying hello using familiar catch phrases to further add to a false profile that only had to collapse an entire democracy to maintain as my family is forced to watch...

You made this one of the sickest corners of the world and you owe my mom, who never broke a law and always paid her taxes on time her entire life, an apology you sick and pathetic disgraces because without her I would be homeless because Cheney got paranoid where my pen was being stuck...

How about that economy...What an economic failure...cause the real tragedy is the only way to become President is to hope that the only slow working correct policy along the shallowest surface is slow enough to be called the problem and this nation gets worse an Obama's no talent trash cover two incompetent positions all day while the core of this nation gets slaughtered to keep the simplest concept from going in reverse...

At the end of the day, the filthy pieces of garbage monitoring this let OBL win because we have turned into one of the nastiest nations on the face of the Earth under excuse we don't want to give the bad guys, already the very lowest threat to life, ammunition in regards to the most sickening activity targeting our own citizens using them as cover, so we simply bury as much ammunition as possible truly making this one of the most comical sulfur wreaking perversion on the face of the @!$%#in Earth...

We need a moon shoot, but before that could ever work you really have to ask yourself why we give up what is most important based on what is least important -outside our left vs right format-where we look the other way toward the sickening slaughter of United States citizens to keep momentum on the simplest economic concepts having their no talent asses get comfortably nestled in the ignorance the stupid party exploits but then wondering why the simplest stuff along our surface starts to shed...

    Reply#57 - Sat May 5, 2012 10:22 AM EDT

The press really needs a baseline along the shallowest surface and have every Senator go on record whether the deficit is a bigger problem or a stalled economy because it is fairy tale land when they can say stimulus spending does not increase demand...

    This is very simple @!$%#...

Lets talk about how wild our government really is and how it collapses people's human rights in front of the statements others are forced to make -suspended in the most sickening states-imploding the core of this nation so Iran will not laugh their ass off at this collection of sorry ass @!$%#s suppressing the complete collapse of rule of law and while trying to spin it against the war on TEWOW as justification-so these sorry ass perverts can live with themselves- because that is the one thing easiest to exploit in what is literally an ignorant and comical terrorist police state...

It's to late for my moon shoot isn't it war criminal, coward, and traitor???

And that was the easy @!$%#...

Give every American a choice after you lift covert marshal law so Iran won't laugh at us and ask them if debt reduction is a bigger problem or a stalled economy cause Durbin runs from that to-with his lazy eye- once the Republicans have a bullet point...

    Revenue Hu...Revenue...

A true pervert for the ages...

You are a 'beacon of hope'. It is time someone dropped the 'pretty speak' and called as it is. And I agree, I am not going to like the solutions, but if I have a modicum of confidence that we are driving out the corruption and waste, I can deal with it. But quite frankly, I think IF we get serious on the cost/corrupt side, at all levels; National, State and local, the hole isn't as deep.

Out of control? I'll give Christie more than a little credit for being an expert on the subject of out of control: an out of control eating habit, an out of control desire to fly the state's helicopter to his son's athletic games, and an out of control proclivity to pop his mouth off what someone says something that he doesn't like. No doubt government IS out of control--Christie's right--but he doesn't seem able to control his own impulses, so why would we trust him to control the impulses of something that 's even bigger than he is?

Chris Christie is nothing more than a dark overlord controled by the Republican Party. He is all about more corporate welfare and lower wages. That is the Republican vison for this country. It balances the budget, creates cheap jobs and solves the immigration problem while getting right back on the same course that ran us into the ditch to begin with. No wonder Bruce Springsteen wants nothing to do with his sorry a$$.

Face it. Obama and his super majority created an unconstitutional law (Obamacare under the Constitutional Law Professor), created a massive deficit, increased poverty, and failed to strengthen the economy. Bush was saddled with a Democrat Congress in 2008 that started the economic collapse. Obama came in and finished off the US poor and Middle Class. They can't find jobs. Obama wasted 1/2Billion of Solyndra against the advice he was given! He has wasted much much more on other junk science based projects that end up rewarding the CEOs of failing companies, costing the taxpayer billions, reducing jobs! Obama's greatest accomplishment might be the total polarization of America, Anarchy, and Economic Collapse.

          Xant -

For anyone to get on this board and suggest that Bush was a prisoner to a Democratic Congress is a delusional idiot. You are acting as though Bush was the greatest President ever. He was handed a surplus and destroyed it. He drove up the deficit. By the time he left office the country was LOSING 750,000 jobs a month. Similar to what you are attempting to do with Obama, Bush owns all of failures from 2000-2009. Incompetent War on Terror, forgetting about Osama Bin Laden, Deficits, Katrina. All his. Nice try.

Also, if he was so great why is Romney staying so far away from him? I bet he has paid him to stay the hell away from the election campaign. I know you want everyone to forget this, but Bush left this country in the toilet and Obama had to clean it up. Go ahead and explain how this is not true. Has Obama made mistakes? Sure. However, it is not as though he was handed a pot of gold here.

As for the rest of your anti-Obama rant, we'll see how much of it matters in November. The electoral college remains heavily in Obama's favor. Oh, also please remember that Obama is running against Mitt Romney, not Ronald Reagan. There is a reason why he has lost just about every election he has competed in.

Your economic policies have ruled the day for 30 years - and the hole today is bigger than ever. Obama's mistake was continuing too many of the failed GOP policies.

And if the right wing nut jobs thinks it's OK that Christie can do it, then I hope Obama does it. Then what would you say TRUDAT?

Christie needed an executive order to override years of corrupt democrat rule to save his state, obama wants the order to create more liberal policies that will hurt the country.
