O'HARA TOWNSHIP, PA -- Mitt Romney incorporated April's less-than-stellar jobs report into his assault on the president's economic policies, which he said reflected a "sad time in America."
"Just this morning, there was some news that came across the wire that said the unemployment rate has dropped 8.1 percent. And normally that would be cause for celebration, but in fact anything over 8 percent, anything near 7 percent, anything over 4 percent is not cause for celebration. But in fact the reason it dropped from 8.2 to 8.1 was not because we created a lot of jobs. As a matter of fact, only 115,000 net new jobs were created. That was well beneath what it was expected to be. It should have been in the hundreds of thousands but it wasn't. The reason the rate came down was because about 340,000 people dropped out of the workforce," Romney said.
Four percent unemployment, a number lower than that sometimes considered by economists as "full employment," is a high bar. The lowest unemployment rate recorded in the last decade was 4.4 percent, in May 2007.
The former Massachusetts governor also hit the president over the growing scale of the federal government, and issued a dire warning about what the future may hold under a second Obama administration.
"Government will control directly or indirectly over half the economy if this president is re-elected, and we will cease being a free economy," Romney said. "We have to ask ourselves, is that what America is? An economy governed by government, an economy run by government? In my view, we must be an economy, a people run by free people pursuing happiness in the way they believe is best for them and their families."
In a statement, the Obama campaign responded.
“From start to finish, Mitt Romney’s speech today was filled with dishonesty and distortions about both President Obama’s record and his own," Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith said in a statement. "Mitt Romney’s empty promises on job creation do not square with his record in either the private or public sector."
Romney, who declared succinctly that in regards to the economy, "liberal policies don't work," used today's campaign event outside Pittsburgh to not only attack president Obama's policies on the economy, but to highlight what he said was his own outreach to regular folks to better understand their struggles and successes.
"One of the great things I've had a chance to do over the last, oh, couple of years, is go across the country and meet everyday Americans. And it's made me both more optimistic and enthusiastic about our future, and also more sad as I've seen how tough times are for so many Americans," Romney said.
"The numbers don't really tell you what's going on in people's lives as much as actually talking to people and hearing their stories. And so before I begin an event like this, I typically am able to sit down with a few people on an off the record kinda basis. I agree not to say who they are to the members of my media -- my media, I don't have my media, I wish I had my media -- to members of the media. And I listen to them to hear their experiences. I'm amazed by the hard work and the entrepreneurial spirit of the American people," Romney said.
With media not allowed to attend, and no further information offered by the campaign, such meetings are impossible to verify independently.
The Romney campaign did confirm a meeting between the presumptive GOP nominee and one private citizen today: former Senator Rick Santorum, who suspended his cash-strapped campaign in April. The two erstwhile rivals spoke privately for some 90 minutes in the Pittsburgh office of former Santorum strategist John Brabender, according to sources briefed on the meeting.
Romney did not mention the meeting this morning, and Santorum has yet to offer his endorsement.
NBC's Andrew Rafferty contributed reporting.

"But there's good news here, too." (Klein)
Our standards for what constitutes a "disappointing" jobs report are going up.
Two years ago, the good months were distorted by census hiring, and when they ended, the economy lost 167,000 jobs in a single month.
One year ago, the good months were based on real hiring, and when they ended, we were still creating jobs -- just not as many as we wanted to be.
And this year, the good months were the best months we've had so far.
And if they've been interrupted, it's by job growth that's still well over 100,000 a month -- which is a lot better than how the previous cycles of high expectations ended."
600,000 jobs have been created over the last 3 months.
However, the SAME number ~ 600,000 jobs ~ were CUT from the public sector. Hundreds of thousands of Teachers, firefighters, and police have been fired by Republican Governors since the 2010 election.
Very poor economic recovery strategy, and clearly a national political strategy on the part of GOP.
Our unemployment figures reflect the reality that 30 years of Reagonomics and deregulation drove us into a Great Depression and hurt our middle class deeply. That, and 2 unpaid-for wars, 2 high-end tax cuts for the wealthy and a pharma sweet deal during the Bush Administration. All unpaid-for for the first time in American history.

Right wingers like to use that Fuzzy math as well as blaming everyone of their failures on President Obama.
That's why we haven't heard a peep out of GW Bush. He knew he left a mess for someone to clean up.
500K jobs a month, 4% unemployment, $2.00 gas, 999 (666 when dislexic Bachmann looked at it).
All by magic, no actual plans. I say it and walaaa...
How can any sane person vote for these nuts?
God might forgive the "OOPs moments", but isn't this stuff getting a little out of hand by now? ...
Hey Mitt how bout "A CHICKEN IN EVERY POT."
A Vote for Mitt Romney is a vote for Herbert Hoover! (or was that Calvin Coolidge)? Hmmmmm
"I agree not to say who they are to the members of my media -- my media, I don't have my media, I wish I had my media -- to members of the media."
Good grief Willard......what are you saying? Do you want to own the media?
Bev said,
"Right wingers like to use that Fuzzy math as well as blaming everyone of their failures on President Obama"
No Bev, “fuzzy math” is 10 years of revenue against 6 years of expenses…
This is documented proof in Obamacare… so stop trying to make the republicans look bad when you need to clean up your own poop first!!
Instead of chasing Obamacare in the first two years he should have been chasing jobs and America would be better off, but it was party over country or ideology versus what's best for the America!! His policies are a failure and these numbers prove it. Unfortunately for America more bad news is coming our way under this administration. It's not something I'm proud to say, but that's the way it is.
Spin that!!
chilled - oh please don't let Mitt own the Media. We'd have to learn Chinese to understand the anchors!
Maxx Power - What is proved is that the GOP has failed the American people by establishing a goal to defeat the President - no matter what - instead of doing their jobs. We should and hopefully will run most of the House Republicans out of office so we can get the country back on track. If we have the House and Senate working with President Obama we can see a faster recovery! No spin needed - just need to "rinse" the GOPers out of office!
Obama/Biden 2012
Romney promised to create 500,000 a month. The last US President to create 500,000 jobs in consecutive months was Jimmy Carter.
The one time Reagan has more than 500,000 jobs in a month was when 640,000 AT&T workers returned from a strike.
Romney is sounding more and more like Governor Walker who promised 250,000 jobs. Today, Governor Walker ranks 50th (dead last) and is the only state that has significant job loses in the past 15 months.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. After all, under Governor Romney, his state ranked behind 46 other states when Romney was in charge.
Debbie-52573 - Oh you didn't! You are not supposed to use logic and facts when dealing with the GOP! Their little heads will spin - then explode! And, the clean-up will be a mess!
No idea, but from what happened last time I'm sure there will be some idiots
I mean who would vote for some one based on
"Yes We Can"
"We are the ones We've been Waiting For"
"Change you can Believe In"
"The Fierce Urgency of Now"
and my personal favorite
"this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal"
I mean who would vote for these platitudes?
This is one of Romney's many mistakes, especially now that he's Etch-a-Sketching to the general election... He's trying to win by attacking his opponent, and still failing to make his case why voters should support him.
Let's review what Romney has really done to create jobs, whether at Bain or as governor. We already know job creation sucked when he was governor. He keeps saying he created jobs at Bain--the number has grown (imagine that) but it is never proved with data. And he mentions dozens of companies he "turned around," but keeps repeating Staples and some other company -- that's only two, what are the rest? What kind of jobs, low-paying ones like Staples that couldn't be off-shored?
Romney--it's not the president's record people want to know about--it's YOURS!
Debbie-525743 -- Romney is sounding more and more like Governor Walker who promised 250,000 jobs.
He has to sound like someone else, because he has no core of his own. But Michele Bachmann just won the award for best actress -- or cheerleader -- Wow what a batsh!t crazy endorsement! And Trans-Vaginal McDonnell of VA, now I realize he has "small man's syndrome."
Backhouse,
The jobs created the last three months have been in the range of 120 to 160 thousand per month. The total is somewhat under 500K jobs created. We need to create 165K jobs per month to sustain job growth.
The average salary as adjusted for inflation between 2008 and now in the American work sector has dropped by $4300. The recovery is anemic and until unemployment approaches 5 percent (which is the actual number most economists consider full employment) there will be no upward pressure on wages.
Regarding government jobs. The federal government has grown by 234,000 jobs excluding (after allowing for) the census layoffs under Obama. The loses have been state and local jobs. These governments get their revenues from advolrem (sic?) (property) taxes and sales tax. According to the Florida Times Union both of these are down here in Jacksonville.
Do we really want to depend on government for a larger share of the job market? The Europeans are in a major quandary. They spend up to 50% of their GDP on government in some markets. Obama wants to take us toward their level. If they continue austerity, they will lose a lot of the 50% of their GDP. If they do nor eventually they will have to inflate their way out of debt, think of Germany in 1929 or parts of South America in the 1970's.
We have the option of the Ryan plan (which may need some adjustments). This plan gradually slows growth in government over 10 years to eventually allow revenues to increase to match expenditures. Jobs lost through elimination of departments will mainly be through attrition (average 7% per year or 70% total over 10 years) the remaining members should be able to transfer over time to fill openings in other government agencies.
The private over a ten year period could easily outgrow the job loses in government. The only answer is to improve the general economy in the private sector without continuing unchecked spending. The growth in the private sector means more tax revenue and a balanced federal budget (like the Republican Congress and Clinton did from 1996 -2001).
Just some additional info on the unemployment rate. Here in Florida jobs have been created and the rate has dropped below 9%. The state no longer qualifies to carry people for emergency unemployment for 99 weeks of unemployment benefits. Unemployment now ends at 20 weeks. This means more people who still are not employed will be not be counted in the unemployment numbers. I am certain this same situation applies in many states across the country.
This would make Obama's jobs' numbers erroneous!
Heres a little news you can use
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-04/u-s-stock-futures-are-little-changed-before-jobs-report.html
See, you don't get more than anemic growth when so few are contributing to it. In order to achieve the kind of growth we need- over five per cent GDP- we need more people working and being productive. Having 340,000 a month leave the labor force every month is not the way to get that kind of growth.
I truly doubt those numbers, by the way. I fully believe it is a sham by Obama's labor department to artificially lower the unemploymentt rate.
NJNB -- The post above yours points out that emergency extensions of unemployment increases the count of unemployed = higher than normal unemployment rate.
Ergo, Teapublicans should have been in favor of extension of unemployment more than the Dems since this makes the president look worse. But Teapublicans aren't smart enough to know when to stop their plot of obstructionism.
Lets make this simple . It's a recession or just short of a depression right? How did we solve our major recessions and depression? The 40 plus. Well, we invested in infrastructure and kept the money in the country . Gee that wasn't hard? Was it? Sometimes I see exactly how this country got this way. If you look at the comments on this page you see the lack of knowledge as to our history and how we solved these issues in the past. Every time a republican takes office under these cercumstance we go right back to a recession. Look it up. It's all over the internet. They drop taxes on the rich and large companies and commit the fatal act of austerity. We don't need austerity when we are trying to keep a country working . You need higher taxes on top earners and money that is spent to rebuild the nation keeps that money flowing in the country and keeps it from going abroad. Intern you pay of your debt. Not rocket science just common sense.
NJ says it all ! You need to lay off the sauce . I mean you guys think Christie is a good politician. Enough said. How does it feel to get robbed by the guy you helped elect . LMAO! Helicopter rides anyone? Its on Jersey!
Obama kicks off his re-election campaign to a half empty crowd. You can bet that was not expected or anticipated. Otherwise they would have been busing in Obama supporters to make a better showing. The realization that Obama has no clue what he is doing is coming home to roost.
Obama said he would lead, instead he divides. Obama said he would change the way Washington does business, instead he does nothing but blame others. Obama said he would cut the deficit in half, instead he more then doubled it. So who is doing well with Obama, his cronies and no one else.
Maybe the country did start down the hill with Bush (maybe when Clinton signed NAFTA into law), but Obama got behind the wheel and hit the gas. This country is doomed with Obama and some of the lifers like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. It is time to clean house in Washington, we certainly cannot afford four more years of Obama.
Tea bagger.
"Just this morning, there was some news that came across the wire that said the unemployment rate has dropped 8.1 percent.
While the numbers dropped to 8.1% they didn't drop 8.1%. Either this was a misquote, or Mitt is as delusional as many of us suspected.
.1% may not be what people had hoped for, it is better than than increase and I'm sure that those newly hired folks are much happier this month than last.
Ha, good catch. True, those 115,000 new jobs are 115,000 people now earning a paycheck who will then spend money and improve the economy. Every job gained creates or sustains several more.
It's like when he said he would grant asylum to the Chinese dissident without knowing that in order to grant asylum, you have to be in this country.
It's like when he said he would grant asylum to the Chinese dissident without knowing that in order to grant asylum, you have to be in this country.
Good catch; right back at ya!
I also wanted to thank you and Feisty for your well wishes that I feel better. I am feeling pretty good this week and hope for the same in the future.
Maybe Mitt should self-commit himself to an asylum. After all, illegal immigrants will self-deport under a Romney administration.
Actually, he might be onto something, if he were to get elected, there'd probably be a mad dash to the Mexican border. Hopefully Mexico is ready for all those Americans to arrive.
When employment is negative 169,000, the only way to get a drop in the unemployment rate is by fudging the numbers.
340,000 suddenly just left the labor force?
This is just the latest "people dump" by this Labor Department. To any reasonable person, it is blatantly obvious that the millions pushed out of the labor market are not hitting the lottery- nor are they robbing banks.
The people who defend this practice are either incredibly gullible, or willfully ignorant.
By the way, on another thread someone was touting "progress" on the mishandling of the Chinese dissident situation. Well, it pays to have more than one source
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/china-chen-guangcheng-must-apply-to-study-abroad-like-any-other-chinese-citizen/2012/05/04/gIQAE6kr0T_story.html?hpid=z1
So, we're going to "stay in touch". Isn't that the same empty promise made at college reunions?
Stakes are a little higher here.
Romney is a skilled, successful businessman. At a negotiating table, he knows what to do to achieve his goals. Obama? If they don't swoon at his feet, he's flummoxed.
Obama shelved in 2012.
or maybe some babyboomers retiring
Romney is only trying to cut the deal. He'll say and do anything for his own personal gain. Businessman yes, future peoples President no.
Oh yeah 340,000 baby boomer just retired this month... LOL
nomoresameo,
it was just a typo
[Obama shelved in 2012.]
Uh, NoJo...you may want to check with Snuffy to see if you can use a tag line...seems she frowns on that sort of thing...she thinks they're stupid.
But she is cool with lying, so there's that...
Oh, and NoJo... the "report as inflammatory" button is in the lower right...just in case you can't find your way to it.
Mickey, NY - good thing you're posting directions to NoJo. While she's good at spewing lies, her rudimentary skills are sorely lacking!
Unemployment rate U-6 which counts ALL unemployed and under-employed (even if they have quit looking for work) remained constant at 14.5%.
That is still too high but much better than the peak of over 17% in 2010.
And February and March payroll jobs were adjusted UPWARDS.
ANd of the NET 115,00 new jobs in April private jobs were up 130,000 while government jobs decreased by 15,000.
Gov Romney and the Grover crown want the rest of us to just trust them.
Give them your share of what the gov collects and let them create magical jobs with it. Give up your medical help and let them care for you. Give up your help feeding your children and they will supply you with rice and beans as long as you forfeit everything else. Give up your home and they will rent one to you. It goes on and on.
Armed with his jobs reports, what Mitt Romney is really doing is moving the goal posts. He realizes that jobs are being created, that unemployment is dropping and he understands that as those things happen, even more jobs will be created and unemployment will continue to drop. It's a losing proposition for him and he knows it. By telling people don't let a 7% unemployment rate fool you into thinking we're in recovery when anything more than 4% unemployment is unacceptable, essentially Romney is admitting that what President Obama is doing and has done worked--but he can't say that, so he moved the goal posts to 4%.
Jobs are being created...outside the US.
...but I'm sure Mr. Romney knows all about outsourcing.
Jody, Iowa,
It's not working number don't lie.
115,000 created, work force decreases by 340,000 because they were not able to find jobs. So 235,000 people that are no longer getting unemployment. I am sure they will keep spending up to help prop up the economy. I know you libs are die hard but when are you going to get the picture. Even a two year old can understand things are getting worse.
Pull your heads out of the sand...
lahater - pull yours out of the sand (or wherever). Under Mitt the numbers will be much worse. He has no plans, nothing. Just lies and makes up things to fit whoever he is talking "down" to at any particular moment. He thinks everyone is as stupid as the people touting him!
The work force did not decrease because people quit looking for jobs, that is a fallacy.
U-6 remained constant - check your facts!!
i agree insanity and Debbie should be dating it sounds like they are lost go get a job and stop depending on government for all your problems . i have a high school degree and have been married for 32 yrs and put 4 kids thru collage and my wife has never worked , and i never ever received a dime from the feds and never wanted it done it all on my own , wow what a novel concept working for something and living within your means
A new dumb a@s republican. Vote out of office republican and blue dogs dem, state and federal.
LAHATER -Your math sucks. Don't quit your day job. Maybe you and mitt should buddy up and make some money? WOW!
If Mitt has a plan for 500k jobs a month and near 4% unemployment, let's hear it. Why hold the American workers hostage? If he gave congress his magic plan now and it worked he would win in a landslide. So why do we have to wait until January?
Simple, If he announced it now, Obama would cry that Romney wants dirty air and dirty water and wants to throw autistic kids out in the street. And that since his plan is different, he is the enemy and must be punished. You know, the usual blather we have come to expect from Obama.
When Mitt was governor his unemployment rate went from 5.6% in 01/2003 to 4.6% in 01/2007 (5% is actually what is considered full employment). Obama does not have a jobs record to match this.
In one state Mass. In Oklahoma the unemployment rate was 5.2% under a Democrat govenor, depends on the state, depends on the govenor Rep. or Dem.What Romney has to shake is how can he create "millions" of jobs, when he made "millions" downsizing, restructuring companies to make them leaner and meaner by dumping manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and shipping them to slave labor markets. Sureeeeee the 1% love him to death!!
Paul, The only thing is that when a company is going under and about to lose 100% of its jobs, do we keep all the jobs, let the company fail and lose 100% of the employees? The other option is to layoff 25%, cut cost, save the company, save the 75% of the jobs and after the company becomes profitable again start adding new jobs.
Under the Obama White House, now as we e-mail back and forth, Ford is building a plant in China at a cost of $5 billion. The Chinese middle class is growing at the second highest rate in the world (India is first). The decision by Ford is a good one. To build a plant in country where demand for autos is increasing is the best way to meet this demand. That is why Nissan,Toyota, Honda, BMW and Mercedes have plants in the US.
The part I do not like is Obama's hypocrisy. He has does not have the right to criticize Bain for outsourcing when it is happening with a major manufacturer during his administration, without one word. I also understand after the auto bailout that both Chrysler and GM shuttered plants in the US and moved more operations overseas. He needs to understand that we are a in global economy and we have to compete internationally. He needs to not be a hypocrit about outsourcing.
Because he's a liar. Any more questions?
I could actually see a commercial where Obama is making his 2008 campaign promises, graphics show what really happened and the 1960's song "Liar" is playing in the background.
No Jersey,
The time to give out your plan is one week before the election. Maybe even three days before. I've seen really great ideas get hijacked by the other side before.
G.E. that owns MSNBC paid no taxes last year? Guess where they sent all there jobs?
Arizonatime - GE is building 4 manufacturing centers in the US by 2014 (already underway) and bringing 70% of their production back to the states. What else ya got?
There are a lot of corporations that have more than $1 Trillion dollars overseas from the profits that they have made at the expense of the American worker by shipping jobs outside our country. Now those same corporations are asking the Congress and the President to extend to them a tax holiday so they can bring all of that money into the country -- TAX FREE.
The money overseas is simply at more risk due to the political and economic climate but if they can bring it back here it will a lot safer than it is now. Bring the money back here is not going to result in investments for our nation it simply means more money for CEOs, etc. The reality is they should bring it back here and pay tax on it just like everyone else would have to do.
Think about it...
insanity has got it all wrong again what else would you expect from a liberal
We "liberals" whoever that is, I guess anything that doesn't like Republicanism will remind the insanity started by triggering 2 wars at a total cost of 2 trillion and then in the same time period having tax cuts that totalled nearly 4 trillion and then blaming the 16 trillion dollar debt on one man, Obama. And then having one of their up and coming stars of the GOP Rep.Paul Ryan come up with a 6 trillion debt reduction plan with NO tax increase all targeted to rip to shredds entitlement programs saying they are responsible for the debt ratio that is out of control. That is INSANITY.
Paul, The war on terror is responsible for $115 billion per year in spending. The tax cuts are a reduction in taking of money by the government. the entitlement portion of the federal budget is $2.5 trillion per year. The Bush tax cuts are actually more in the line of $1 trillion of less revenue over ten years not $4 trillion in less revenue over ten years. Reversing them would only increase revenue by $100 billion this year, a drop in the bucket next to $1.2 trillion in deficit spending.
Under that circumstance, can a retired couple earning $100,000 afford to pay say $800 per month instead of $300 per month for medicare? Is it wrong to means test medicare?
Is it wrong to move the retirement age for full social security from 67 in 2025 to 70 in 2040?
Is it wrong to decrease the growth rate in government in other programs to allow revenue to catch expenses by 2022 and finally balance the budget?
As far as gutting programs, we spend $135 billion in the Department of Education, our test scores are now lower than in the 70's (before it was created in 1977). Have we not learned that throwing money at education does not improve it?
America is the sickest industrialized country in the world...There are more people sicker than any of the first world countries in the world. This means that there are more people on medicare, medicaid and other assistance. There are more children born with autism than any other country in the world (I am from Kenya and we have almost no autism) and alzheimers. What will you do with this statistic?
Do we cut our way out of this problem? What do you suggest?
While there may be some genetic differences between Kenya and the US in Autism and Alzheimer's, it is unlikely there is that much difference. My thoughts are that Kenya is under diagnosing Alzheimer's. A lot people think the the US is over diagnosing autism.
Romney is pulling stuff out of his a.. in an attempt to pander to anyone who will listen to him. He doesn't have a clue on how to get people to work. His formula for employment is what he has used to obtain his wealth in Private Equity.
Use other people's money -- purchase a healthy company -- cut jobs and benefits -- load it down with debt -- take profits for yourself by selling a company knowing that it's headed for bankruptcy -- run, and let the American taxpayer pay the bills once it is bankrupt (unemployment, retirement benefits, and of course the cost of actually going bankrupt).
Is this truly how we want our county to go down the tubes? Really?
Who in their right mind would vote for someone like Romney?
Think about it...
He also told college students to start their own businesses - by borrowing money from their parents!
What world does he live in?
Tomorrow Obama officially opens his campaign. Wink wink. Guess what the new slogan is? "Forward"? That has been used since Karl Marx wrote his Communist Maifesto. A slogan used by Communists since forever. Guess who's birthday it is tomorrow? Karl Marx. Obama's, father was a communist. Obama's mothers boyfriend?, was a communist. In his own words he liked them. His whole family were communists. When he went to Occidental, and in his book written by a communist, he hung out with communists. He announced his political upon entering politics in the living room of two coomunists. His Green Czar is a communist. Oh, there is more.
Arizonatime - you're wearing a tin foil hat right now, aren't you? Do you see little green men at night in the dark?
Do you have any idea how demented and delusional you sound? Please - just go back to playing your computer games; watch Star Wars; grow up!
Your point? I thought Obama was a Muslim, then he was a Socialist, now he is a Communist?
Do you even know the difference - or are you just throwing stuff around to see what sticks?
TNSEVOL - trust me - Arizonatime doesn't have a clue - about anything! What an embarrassing rant that would be if AZ was sane!
Everyting I say is verifiable. In Odumbo's own words. Check it out losers. You just need to do some research. Put the kool aid down and take off the rose colored glasses. The truth about the Messiah will all come out. Romney in 2012.
Arizonatime - nothing you say is worth a da**ed! You are such a pathetic poster. When you throw out the "communist" and "socialist" words followed by my all time farorite "Messiah" we all know you're worthless - at best.
Please try to grow up. You just look more foolish with every post you make!
arizona time you are the man and insanity go commit yourself you loser dont tell me your on welfare or some other form of government assistance
Arizonatime Got all that ridiculous stupidity from the most hateful conservatives who dug in the past to come up with this foolishness. Forward is forward and nothing that the right wing liars say will tarnish this great word that has been used always in the English language. Everything you say comes from the bottom feeders of satanic evil.
Don't get your pink MSNBC lefty panties in a bunch, but there is more coming. It is what it is. The media will not be able to keep putting lipstick on this pig. I know George Soros controls it, but let's face it. Obama is what he is.
Arizonatime - Sarah Palin - is that you???? The lipstick on a pig gave you away. Still at it aren't ya? Bet you can still see Russia from your porch. Now, be a good little Tea Partier and go away!
I love dumb asses like you. How about traveling in 57 States, by Ceasar Odumbass? Best "Flush out your headgear"?
Arizonatime - I don't need to call you stupid name. You just make yourself look more foolish with every post you make. Please keep it up - it's moderately entertaining and you just look ridiculous! And, just for the record - I'd offer to match wits with you any day but I make it a practice not to match wits with anyone who is only half prepared!
Oh yeah, that 57 States is a Muslim thing? Your "Boy" is a Muslim? Check it out. I am here to help you. His own wife Moochelle, told him to quit that crap early on.
That's why in some of the Bin Laden computer hard drives we have him plotting to take out Obama and get rid of the INFIDEL!!!, what a jerk, why don't you go run into a Saguaro pal.
Ah,to see the face of ignorants right in my back yard .Arizona still thinks we should stone people but Obama is the problem. To funny. You call him a Muslim we call you a ass . Same difference .
Just like Obama's beer and pretzels conference didn't solve race relations, I doubt Romney's cookies and lemon-aide picnic got him any more in touch with the common American. What the hell is he talking about with "entrepreneurial spirit?" We are not a country of little shop keepers, and in this global economy that isn't going to solve the economy. Romney has this delusion that we are all going to borrow money from our parents and open sandwich shops. What we need is an economy that is meant for the vast majority of us wage earners. Romney is clueless on that because he thinks it all starts and ends with the business owner. If he truly wants to help out small businesses (after they've negotiated all the local zoning and licensing rules), figure out how to simplify their financial reporting requirements without having a bunch of fake Sub-chapter S Corps ride along. Figure out how to put the small business health insurance costs on the same price level as the big corps who have the leverage to negotiate their rates. I've got it - a small business insurance co-op. But all small businesses would have to be members.
See? Another dumbass. Romney, is a business man, that can help get everyone jobs, and have a future, for future generations. You know the way America has alway's been? Ah, I know do you get it "He looks Like Me", "Moochers and Parasites"? So I will buy into this Markist. Poor fools.
Arizonatime - you truly are a sad little Republican but just go ahead and believe in Mitt. After all, he has no plans, no proposals, no nothing. You truly are a sad excuse for a person.
Romney was a clever businessman, he found ways to dismantle companies by downsizing and restructuring and making them clean and mean by shipping American jobs to cheap slave labor markets. So now, how does he help millions of jobs come to the U.S.???? Oh yes, millions of oil rigs in our back yards and fracking 24/7, and "clean" coal.
To Beverly in Chicago who wrote:
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, the number of Americans that were employed in April was 141,865,000, but the number that were employed in March was 142,034,000 and in February it was 142,065,000. If the number of people has gone down two straight months, how can the White House claim jobs were created? I guess Democrats have fuzzier math!
How can the unemployment rate go down from 8.2% to 8.1% when the number of people working goes down? The number of people no longer looking for work (given up on finding a job) went from 87,564,000 in February, to 87,897,000 in March, and to 88,419,000 in April. Yes that is right, in April alone over a half million people gave up on finding a job and quit trying. Only in Obama's America is victory claimed when people give up trying to find work.
Looking at different set of BLS numbers that excludes military and agricultural jobs. Under Bush in 2007 there were 137.6 of these types of jobs. Under Obama in 02/2012 there were 132.7million of these types of jobs. The number of jobs is 4.9 million less now than under Bush.
You can't read can you? Your info is just bull crap!
The BLS numbers for 04/2012 the last release are 133 million employed (my rounding of this number is actually 11,000 more than the reported 132.989 million). That is still down 4.6 million jobs from 2007. We are talking about a lot fewer jobs than 5 years ago.
If you other jobs numbers for 2007 to 2012 that show job growth then list them and cite them.
Beverly and Feisty are MSNBC's best. Lol.
Today's data indicated 168,000 more jobs than we knew at the last release (exceeding economists forecasts).
February revised up 19,000
March revised up 34,000
April 115,000
Total 168,000
Lol. Check again Debbie. We will try and help you through the maze. We are here to help you and future generations.
Debbie - you just have to ignore Arizonatime - he's into calling the President and his wife names; referring to stupidity that has already been disproved over and over again; making up lies; and just absolutely worshiping Romney. Just let him rant and rave. Once he takes his meds tonight he'll make more sense. Actually - he won't!
The only thing Romoney is 'armed' with is a hammer - he just keeps hammering away at President Obama.
I want to know what is Mittbot going to do to fix our economy - what's his plan and how will he do it? How will he unite our country? What about taxes - will he pay less and me, more? How come? What will he do if he has to talk face to face with leaders in Iraq, China, North Korea? Will he be able to string two words together without insulting them?
Mitty - Start talking about what you'll do!
He'll start by having the Olympics permanently in the U.S. probably in Utah., so Utah will have almost 0% unemployment.
Romney and Obama are both sponsored by, and working for the same banks. They both have economic policies that are designed to funnel money clandestinely to these same banks. You're nit picking over the colors of the curtains while you're getting raped. Stop getting distracted by the main stream media and their lies and do your own research so you can get your priorities straight!
It never ceases to amaze me how stupid a good many of the American people are.
Fact: Republicans can not govern.Republicans can not lead. Republicans do not care
about the middle class, women, gays. the poor or any one that is not the 1%.
Yet many of these under educated morons continue to support the Republican Party
It is difficult for them to realize that if the Republicans just got out of the way,
the ecomony would improve by leaps and bounds. Vote your interest this fall.
Vote all the republicans out
It dawned on me that people refer to Romney as a "businessman." Is he the same sort of businessman as the guy who used to run the local hardware store (before Lowes or Home Depot ran him out)? Is Romney a businessman the same way as the guy who owns a car dealership? (Romney's probably good at selling used cars). Or is he the banker type of businessman? He doesn't know real people, he knows balance sheets. America isn't a balance sheet.
Mr. Romney's record as governor of Massachusetts indicates that Mr. Romney was incompetent in actually creating jobs, ranking 47th of 50 governors of similarly economically challenged states.
At Bain Capital Mr. Romney was like a banker who lends money to a homebuilder. The homebuilder builds the house, not the banker. Mr. Romney likes to take undeserved credit for the success of the operational executives and workers who actually built up the firms that Mr. Romney merely helped to finance.
Mr. Romney's most directly traceable impact on employment is destroying so many jobs by liquidating firms so Mr. Romney could garner great profits. Mr. Romney looks like a phony, an empty suit, boasting about the success of others as if it was his own.
Toad: Wrong! It's TOTALLY dishonest to use that one statistic to say Romney was incompetent. It's the only statistic Dems post on his record as governor. MA's unemployment went from 5.6% DOWN to 4.7% under Romney. THe cause on the drop in unemployment was NOT due to the loss of workforce like in Obama's recent UR record. Further, he balanced the budget from a $1.5 BILLION deficit to a $700 MILLION surplus. Exactly what he promised while running for Governor.
Romney's job at Bain was to make money for his investors and he was among the best in the WORLD at it. only 22% of the deals ended the way you explain. That leaves 78% success rate where he saved the companies/jobs.
Oh, and by the way, he also saved the 2002 Olympics from failure and creating the model that other countries use today when they host the Olympics.
You might be only reading what the left wants you to know about Romney. He is a superstar in everything he does. He is a highly effective leader. This is something you my not be used to seeing that's why you don't recognize true greatness when you see it.
Atticus - Mr Romney has a sorry record as governor, regardless of how the right-wing spin masters spin it. His tenure met with widespread disapproval. He could not stand for a second term, He destroyed government records (work product) that one may assume are embarrassing, if not incriminating. He excludes the press from fundraisers with top donors because transparency is too embarrassing.
The Olympics was saved in large part by federal subsidies that some may consider hypocritical from a avowed true believer in "free markets" like Mr. Romney.
Making money for shareholders is no excuse for deliberately bankrupting companies, making off with pension benefits and other assets while stiffing creditors and leaving the taxpayers to clean up the mess. This practice by vulture capitalists was a quite common, a cookie cutter procedure, and it does not qualify Mr. Romney as a successful businessman, but merely as an unethical financier, doing what harm was necessary to feed his greed while presumably remaining within the boundary of the law.
Cutting state budgets is not always cost-effective, as right-wingers always simplistically assume. A state, like a business, needs investment for the future. Politicians often will not find common ground, and where budget controversies are moot, only time will tell.
I do not see greatness in Mr. Romney, as you do. I see a badly educated man, indoctrinated in rigid economic Darwinistic ideology and ridiculous X-Men style comic book Moronism, a man will little knowledge of subjects other than making money and operating the tax-exempt multi-level marketing scheme that is the Mormon Church. I see man with insufficient intellect to have developed sound judgment and who is easily pushed around and manipulated by the likes of Mr. Norquist.
Mr. Romney's campaign is not built around a thoughtful and well articulated platform. Mr. Romney's campaign is built around 1). demagoguery (greed, hate and fear), 2). malicious and gratuitous criticism of the President (everything he does it too much of too little, too early or too late) etc, 3). the unfounded right wing endorsements of "trickle down" economics that has not worked for the middle class in thirty years and "austerity" that deepened and prolonged the American Great Depression as well as the contemporary recessions in European countries, and 4) pandering to the neocon warmongers promising more Junior Bush style trillion-dollar no-win wars and to the fundamentalist religious zealots who want to impose their profoundly psychopathic religiosity on the rest of us.
Toad, Bain bought companies that were already in trouble, they saved 4 out of 5 of companies. That is a great record. Even among new start up small businesses 9 out of 10 fail in the first year.
Regarding his education, his credentials are actually better than Obama's in law school If Obama will ever release his under-graduate transcripts, we can find out if they are better in college.
Romney-True Greatness-??????? Really?
You never really hear anyone talk about the real numbers. The fact is we need 300,000 jobs added with none lost EACH MONTH for FIVE YEARS! That is just to get to 5% unemployment. We are in deep weeds. But I am just some HR guy, what do I know.
We don't like to hear the truth on this blog Mark. It makes our President look bad and he won't get re-elected if the truth is told.
Mark, You are right and to just maintain 8.1% unemployment, we need to add 165,000 jobs per month. Of course that assumes people do not give up looking like 500,000 did so far this year.
Romney sat down with some rich folks and was impressed by their hard work and entrepreneurship. Yippee. Of course they'll remain nameless because their part of the 1%. Obama isn't afraid to mention names of those int he nation who inspire him.
What I don't get is why people can't find a job or create a job themselves. If we've got so many people out of work, why aren't they banding together to help eachother. Every need in the country creates a job. Create a company where everyone is an employee and their contributions either help place themselves in a job or help others find a job. What it will take are people dedicated to doing the research and promoting not just themselves but others as well.
Everyone being out for themselves is not getting anywhere. This is a country where many people have gotten rich by starting out in their basements or garages. The majority of America is more than capable of banding together and doing something that will have great meaning.
Almost Every Comment Posted Is Negative . That Is Why Romney Or Any Other Candidate Running Besides President Paul Does Not Allow Comments On There Page. They Would be Full Of Negative Remarks. But According To The Controlled Media Romney Is Winning. Why Dont He Have A Page For All His Voters Where Comments Are Welcomed. Ron Paul 2012
Less jobs but lower unemployment??? How do you do that? By the Dept of Labor taking another 500,000 off the rolls as "discouraged workers" meaning they no longer have to count them as unemployed! With this math Obama's people will have the unemployment rate below 7% by election time:) LOL
hot daddy... you ain't so hot. Yes, less jobs last month, but in total, more jobs have been created under Obama than Bush in 8 years. If the GNOPs would stop blocking the jobs bill Obama set forth, there would be plenty more jobs available. Math, huh?
Be real the government doesn't create jobs businesses do! Barry never held a real job or built a busniness, now he held that community organizer one in South Chicago yeah that real helped the community! Never introduced a bill! Let me tell you there ain't nothing wrong with Rommey the only thing you don't like is that he is smart and successful!!!!!
Tea bagger. NUT
