First Thoughts: Weak jobs report helps Romney get back on message

Another weak jobs report helps Romney get back on message … But Obama leads in Virginia and two words – gender gap. It’s tough to see a great path to 270 for Romney without winning Virginia. … Is McDonnell veep possibility hurt by good VA economy? … The 17 “Swing Markets” – Obama’s going to two of them this weekend … China became the political story yesterday … Romney and religion, the need to coalesce but reach out to swing voters … Santorum, Romney meet, but no endorsement expected today … Romney addresses Grennell … and Lugar’s last chance: the last big weekend of campaigning in Indiana. It’s statesmanship vs. the Tea Party (and the Tea Party’s winning).

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks during a campaign event in Chantilly, Virginia, on May 2, 2012.

*** Another weak jobs report helps Romney get back on message: The bin Laden anniversary, a secret trip to Afghanistan to announce staying in that country for 10 more years and simultaneously the ending of the war as we know it, a diplomatic crisis, a presidential candidate drops out, and the latest report on the most important number this election – unemployment. All in a week’s work. It was another weak jobs report. Just 115,000 jobs were added, though the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent,” and CNBC notes that the rate dropped because there were fewer people in the workforce. It was clear in the last NBC/WSJ poll that economic optimism had flat-lined. These jobs reports do have an impact on how people view the economy. We noted earlier in the week that Romney was having a tough week because of all the national security news that dominated. This will allow him to get back on message for a month. “This is not progress. This is very, very disappointing,” Romney said this morning. The upside inside the report was the fact that job gains were revised UPWARD for BOTH February and March, accounting for SOME of the drop in unemployment. But again, the shrinking workforce is the story.

The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd talks about the April jobs report, in which unemployment fell to 8.1 percent with the economy adding just 115,000 more jobs.

*** Obama leads in Virginia: With Romney in Virginia yesterday, the Washington Post is out with a poll poll in Virginia, where Obama leads 51%-44% over Romney. It’s the fifth swing state poll in two days – WI, FL, OH, PA, VA. What have we learned from those? Romney’s got a lot of work to do. The common denominator on all these – we thought he might get a bump after being the de facto nominee, and while he showed improvement in some places, particularly Florida, he didn’t get much of a bump out of becoming the nominee. Virginia may very well be the scariest state for Romney. If Obama wins Virginia, he could win the White House without FL or OH. If Romney loses Virginia, he doesn’t have a path if he also doesn’t win any of the swing states out West.

*** Virginia, not just for lovers, but also for candidates – but two words – gender gap: Assuming the West becomes out of reach due to the GOP’s problems with Hispanics, then Romney HAS to win one of the following four: PA, VA, WI, or MI. And of those four, Virginia is clearly the most winnable. And of all the swing states, Virginia’s was closest to the national number in 2008. And it has moved with where the country has moved from 2005 forward. “I think most would say it's a very tough path for a Republican to win the presidency without winning Virginia,” said Gov. Bob McDonnell, who appeared with Romney yesterday. “So that's why you see Mitt here last night, today and he'll be here next week a couple times. This is clearly on the top of his list. The president's here today and the president's here on Saturday, so everybody knows Virginia's in play.” Digging deeper into the Washington Post poll and one result stands out above all others: the gender gap. If you didn’t think before that the fight over transvaginal ultrasounds hurt the GOP, then simply look at this gender gap in this poll. That fight did damage to the GOP’s brand with suburban women.

*** The Swing Markets: There are swing states and then there are swing MARKETS inside those swing states. And it’s these swing markets, where you’ll not just see TV ad spending but the candidates themselves. Our ad-tracking partners, SMG Delta crunched the numbers to break down the 17 “swing markets” within the broader group of battleground states. These are the ONLY media markets in these 12 battleground states where Bush won in 2004 and Obama won in 2008. We break down the list of those places here. Interestingly, Virginia sports three of the 17 markets (including Richmond) and Ohio sports two of the 17 (including Columbus). And where’s the president going for his first two official campaign events on Saturday? Richmond, VA, and Columbus, OH. By the way, margins in media markets matter as much as whether a candidate carries it. For instance, Colorado does not have a “swing” market. Kerry and Obama BOTH won the Denver-market. Obama just won it by a MUCH larger margin.

*** China rising: We noted yesterday that the story of Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng would become a political story, and did it ever – with Chen himself even calling into a Capitol Hill hearing. Romney criticized the Obama administration, charging that yesterday was “a day of shame for the Obama administration." Romney wasn’t very specific about would he’d do if he were president, but an aide indicated to NBCPolitics.com’s Mike O’Brien that Romney would have offered him asylum. State Department spokesman Mark Toner contended, however, “You cannot achieve political asylum unless you are outside of the country you are trying to flee.” This morning China says Chen can apply to study abroad, which seems like a way for everyone to save face. We can’t imagine Secretary Clinton leaving China without a firm deal in place.

*** Quick on the trigger: Romney rolled the dice a tad by deciding to jump on the Chen story. Yes he couched his comments with “If the media reports are true” but what if they aren’t. There’s a backstory here that no one is quite sure of. Why not wait a day? Why not wait two days until all the facts are known and the Secretary of State is back in the country? Of course, Republicans might argue that they put pressure on the administration to fight for Chen. This morning, Clinton, by the way, said, “All of our efforts with Mr. Chen have been guided by his choices and our values,” per NBC’s Sarah Blackwill. “And I'm pleased that today our ambassador has spoken with him, our embassy staff and our doctor had a chance to meet with him and he confirms he and his family now want to go the United States, so he can pursue his studies. In that regard, we are also encouraged by the official statement issued today by the Chinese government confirming that he can apply to travel abroad for this purpose.”

*** Close up: Romney was asked by local NBC Virginia affiliate WAVY if he believed his religion was part of the reason conservatives were slow to embrace him. Romney replied, “I've got great support from evangelical voters - a number of states that we had primaries in I was the leading contender.” Evangelicals were not a strength for Romney; it’s a big reason he lost South Carolina and didn’t win a single culturally Southern state. He won evangelicals in NH, MA, FL, NV, VT, MD, VA (where only he and Paul were on the ballot). He acknowledged, though, “I know there will be a narrative perhaps to that degree….” But he said, “I want all elements of our party to come together and support me, but I also have to get those folks that are the undecideds, the independent voters, women voters, Hispanic voters, young people, I've got to get them, too.” How tough has this pivot been for Romney? AP notes today that members of the Mormon Church are nervous about the church coming into the spotlight, having again to defend the church amidst “vetting” that “will take place amid the emotion of what may well be a nasty general election.”

*** McDonnell hurt by good VA economy ironically? McDonnell noted yesterday that Virginia has the lowest unemployment rate in the Southeast, and he’s running sunny ads about the state of the Virginia economy. If you’re wondering how he did in the audition, he might not make as much sense now, because he throws Romney off his “bad economy” message a bit. McDonnell would argue that it’s because of his pro-business policies that have helped create jobs in the state. But it’s hard to have it both ways. "Remember three and a half years ago, we heard that tune about hope and change?" McDonnell said. "Now what do we have? We have recession, division and malaise. It’s time for a change, don't you think?" But when you peel back the onion of the Virginia economy, you realize just how much the federal government is such a vital part of the economy. Two words: defense contractors.

*** Santorum, Romney meeting but not expected to appear together publicly: Romney will appear with Rick Santorum on his home turf in Pittsburgh today, but there isn’t expected to be an endorsement and, NBC’s Andrew Rafferty reports, the two aren’t even expected to appear together PUBLICLY. Santorum is really running out of political capital here – whatever’s left of it. Even Michele Bachmann, who once said Romney couldn’t beat Barack Obama, endorsed him yesterday. As AP’s Phil Elliott pointed out, Santorum endorsed Jon Bruning yesterday in the Nebraska Senate primary, but still hadn’t yet endorsed Romney. Romney holds an event at noon ET. The last time Pittsburgh hosted one of these meetings was for Bush-McCain.

*** Romney addresses Grennell – ‘wanted him to stay’: Mitt Romney address the Richard Grennell controversy for the first time this morning on FOX. “We wanted him to stay with our team,” he said, per NBC’s Garrett Haake. “He's a very accomplished spokesperson. We select people not based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation... We select based on ability.”

*** Big weekend of campaigning in IN and WI: It’s the last chance for Richard Lugar to turn the tide in his bid to retain his Senate seat against upstart Tea Party challenger Richard Mourdock, the state treasurer. Bloomberg today sums it up – pitting Lugar’s “statesmanship” against Mourdock’s fight for conservative purity. In Wisconsin, two Democrats – Kathleen Falk and Tom Barrett have their last chances to sell Democrats on why they would be best to take on the well-funded Gov. Scott Walker, in the recall fight. Barrett is favored by double-digits, according to a poll out Wednesday.

I remember when bush jr was running for his second term and came on national tv and spoke about how great the economy was doing, but as soon as he won the election AGAIN three months later the economy was in a crisis. The republicans have taken some pages out of his book because they ran on jobs, jobs, jobs, in 2010, but then they flipped as soon as they got elected and put their real agenda in play which is now cut, cut, cut. Mitt Romney is a supreme flip flopper who has still not let anyone beside his wealthy supporters what his true plan is. And how can he talk about jobs when his buddy Paul Ryan wants to cut everything? These two are on opposite pages and wants people to blindly follow them over a cliff.

but under bush, the unemployment rates were 4.5%-5.0%, people were still working and still had their homes.

Scott you are refusing to see reallity and timing is everything. On day one of President Obama the economy did not just crumble it was headed that way for several years, at sometime you have to open your eyes stop looking for someone to blame and start fixing the problem and look at thos solutions to see if they really do as claimed. The Ryan budget still keeps us in debt and even increases the debt, it is not designed to correct this but only to push an agenda that is not a fix it does not address your unemployment and it does not put people here in this country back to work.

      #129.2 - Fri May 4, 2012 12:17 PM EDT

The democrates had the house and the senate from 2007 to 2010 and the white house for two of those.

      How can you blame Bush?

Scott do you want people back to work, would you like to see this country start regaining the ground it has lost. You tell me how the Ryan plan does this you tell me how the Romney plan does this and since this is America I will say and talk about whatever I damn well please. I am not telling you to shut up in fact I am trying to get you to talk, not just complain. I want American back to work to do that we need jobs here not in China, India or any other country. You tell me how are we going to do that, who is going to do that and how.

simple, reduce the corp. tax, stop pushing for unions (unions play a big factor, higher wages chase american companies out in search for the cheap labor of the past.)

Tis the Season, Obama doesn't have a plan except to tax and spend. You and the left keep complaining and talking about Ryan's Budget, however you fail to mention that Ryan's Budget was not enacted. I don't hear you complaining about the Senate's failure to present their Budget, then maybe, the House and Senate could conference and come up with a Budget that both the House and Senate could work with. I further see that you lefties don't talk about Obama's Budget, which for two years haven't even gotten one democrat vote.

Obama has been President for 3 1/2 yrs yet the left can not talk about his so called accomplishments, they only can blame the Republicans. Quit making excuses for Obama he does enough of that himself.

sfcret: This is a true fact that no one can train a person to progress if all they want to do is think backwards. All you hear from the right wing is socialist this and socialist that and to be frank the right wing is swimming in it mentally and don't even know it. And still trying to hide the legacy and lunacy of Bush jr with B.S is basically saying the country should not have any consequences for him being in office for 8 years. It is so easy for people to hide blame for fair haired children(Bush jr) but give it to President Obama because he is no ones sucker and has his own mind is more than just plain stupid. They say that money makes you more of what you already are, well in Mitt Romneys case it has turned him into the biggest liar, cheat, thief, phoney, and a man who has turn the word dumb into an art form.

            #129.8 - Fri May 4, 2012 1:33 PM EDT

Instead of ranting and raving why don't you try and explain what Obama's plans are for creating jobs, reducing government spending, and foreign policy. Quit blaming Bush, Obama is now the President and it was Obama that promised everything was going to be fine. Remember he was going to unite the country, close GITMO, and if he didn't turn the economy around during his first term then he didn't deserve a second term.

              #129.9 - Fri May 4, 2012 1:51 PM EDT

Let me get this right are you saying that congress and the republicans are not in the way or against anything that President Obama wants to do? And are you saying that Bush jr should not be held accountable for leaving President Obama with the mess that he created under his watch? What brand of reverse psychology are you trying spin in order to not look like a fool? To this day Mitt Romney has not told anyone about how to create anything except how to bash President Obama with republican B.S. Where is Romneys foreign policy? What is he going to do ask John McCain to make one up for him with bombs attached to it? And you talking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time with no facts or logic to back you up is really funny. What you need to do is stop getting your news from fox news and stop sucking on Mitt Romneys short and curlies because the way you sound you must enjoy being down there. Bush jr's legacy will never disappear.

                #129.10 - Fri May 4, 2012 5:02 PM EDT

Hawk, There you go complaining again and playing the blame game. Remember Obama was a Senator during 2007 - 2009, and did nothing to help the economy. Oh, yea, he did say, when voting against raising the debt ceiling, that raising the debt ceiling showed a lack of leadership and it was saddling our children with the debt. Obama said he was up to the task of getting the country back on track, but he still hasn't figured out how. Obama has no foreign policy, no jobs plan, no infrastructure plan, the only plan Obama has is tax more and spend more. He has no energy policy except throw good money at alternative sources. (BTW, solar and wind are not new sources of energy, they have been around for years.)

The only ones talking out of both sides of their mouths are you left wing dingbats that think Obama should be given everything he wants without question.

BTW, your second to last sentence is really stupid in that you can't say something intelligent so you have to revert to nasty remarks. Typical left wing BS, if you can't respond with something constructive don't bother responding. Tell me what Obama's plans are, don't worry about Romney, worry about your boy Obama.

mrwsr: Here is my source for saying "It IS the OTHER WAY AROUND" The Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis:

Our nation's labor market added 130,000 private sector jobs in the month of
April, while the unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent, its lowest level in
                              three years.....

In April, our largest gains -- 62,000 new jobs -- were in good-paying business
and professional services careers, meaning more architects, engineers, computer
programmers and consultants are finding jobs. Also, we added another 19,000
manufacturing jobs in April. After losing millions of good manufacturing jobs in
the years before and during the deep recession, the economy has added 485,000
manufacturing jobs in the past 26 months.

We're on the right path, and we know our recovery would be even stronger if
Congress hadn't blocked almost every single proposed investment in the American Jobs Act. The president believes we should be doing more to help state and local governments hire back teachers, policemen, firefighters and construction crews. And he believes we should be doing more to cut taxes on small businesses thatare the engine of economic growth.

There's a crediable source. The very foundation of cooked numbers.

                                Here are some non-cooked numbers:

Since President Barack Obama was sworn into office, the private sector workforce has shrunk by 2.6% while shedding 2.9 million jobs while the federal workforce (excluding Census and Postal workers) has grown by 7% while adding more than 144,000 jobs.

Mattel toy Romney, every kid deserves to have one. Rummey the Dummy is about as hopeless as they come! All he can do successfully, is bash the President on things he accomplishes. All the while, the mittens says nothing on how he will fix this economy. Typical hot air balloon!

Rummey the Dummy will steer this country right on over the cliff! If you dont believe that, just read the Ryan budget, you know the one Mittie endorses! Where in there, does it say it will fix the economy, or for that matter, stimulate job developement? The only thing it does, is take away from the truely needy, and give it to the ones who least need it. Fantastic! That will surely do it! NOT!!!

If this government really wanted to fix this economy, all they would have had to do, is devide up all that stimulas money, paid to the big banks, and auto industries, and give it to everyone in America! That would have stimulated job growth, and the economy. Everyone would be out buying all those things they need, and it is what the service industry needed! But no, they all decided that the big banks, and the auto industry needed that money more so than us! When the exact thing i mentioned would have done a much faster job! Go figure government?

Irreguardless of what the jobs report may say, this President is moving the country ahead. This is not one of those things that will be solved in a year or two. This will take time. And NO, Rummey the Dummey is NOT the man for the job!

We are in very serious times with economic conditions that some say will prove equal to or worse than the Great depression and with different factions aggressively seeking to control American politics and government for their private interests. The latter is far more threatening, if only because when they control government they effectively control America’s responses to all challenges. The really scary part is the “aggressively” and the “for their private benefit”. If the majority doesn’t recognize these self-serving efforts and the deception used to disguise them, then we are really likely to see the continuation of the domination “by the few, for the few” that we have experienced over the last twelve years.

We know the Democrats are neither perfect nor are their philosophies preferred by everyone but let’s put that aside as being normal politics and concentrate on the real crisis. As the last twelve years have clearly documented, the Republican / Tea Party has become completely owned and controlled by “the money”, deceptively calling it “conservative” while doing nothing for the majority (99%) and totally focusing on the interests of “the money” (1%), their strong supporters and masters, and together using their power, influence and money to con the people and manipulate public opinion. That is a bold statement that some will not want to accept and rather will just fault as being political - the trouble is that the statement is factual and the result is costing the country drastically.

I myself am an ex-long-term Republican who became totally alienated by the actions of Bush-Cheney and then further alienated by the Republican / Tea Party’s continued concentration on serving “the few” while insultingly taking the majority for granted. We saw it in all Bush-Cheney did, we see it every time John Boehner stubbornly and arrogantly presents his rationalized protection of “the money’s” interests and likewise with McConnell, Cantor, Ryan, Bachmann and others, where nowhere in any of it is there any real consideration for the people, only to con them. We see it with Norquist, Cheney, Rove, the SuperPacs and others, with the mega-millions provided by ‘the few” being used to first, intimidate and coerce their own to squelch individual consciences and assure firm unity behind “the money’s” interests and second, to aggressively spread their propaganda aimed to excite and just use the public. We see it in their “puppet” candidates who are ready to have “their strings pulled” and to do as they are told, GWBush style. We see it in their cocky confidence as they feel the power, influence and money of “the few” and as they are emboldened by past successes: the manipulation of the Evangelistic Christian (2000), the Swift-boat propaganda (2004) and the Tea Party movement (2010). This isn’t just politics as usual, it is the clear illustration of “the money” gaining complete control over the Republican Party with the politicians selling out and becoming totally dependent on “the money” - and it should never be thought there aren’t strong strings attached (“the few” all have their demands, as one even declared he wants more favoritism for Israel).

Some have said that the current Republicans are totally incapable of honestly and responsibly governing and the last twelve years completely substantiate that. To ever regain the Grande Ole Party with a sincere interest in representing the majority, it is necessary to now firmly and totally reject what they have become. Only then will “the money” be rendered ineffective and the stranglehold be broken, to then have them concentrate on offering honest “conservative” values for the people. It ins’t “conservative” versus “liberal” that is at stake, it is the people needing to take back control and to stop the constant pushing towards a two-class society with “the few” (1%) feeding their insatiable “more” appetite and competing in having it all while the majority (99%) struggles to survive.

Maybe it's time to do what FDR did in 1933 - create a Civilian Conservation Corps and put Americans to work on public works projects. Our economy relies on consumer spending. Putting people to work reduces unemployment costs, food stamp demand and increases income tax receipts for the government as well as increases Main Street sales. People working also increases a sense of personal self worth.

Obama did want to put people to work with his Transportation Bill, but it was squashed by the GOP. There would have been plenty of jobs for US citizens. The GOP are determined to let Obama fail. Hopefully people know the entire history of The US current predicament and vote the tea party out of the House and let Obama's Transportation Bill go through.

You are being lied to by the media. 7 million jobs are being filibustered by the obstructionist GOP Congress, 7 million jobs! Media isn't calling them out on this because they are enjoying the game playing for their ratings.

If Romney gets elected, the GOP still will not pass these job bills because fixing roads and bridges are some of the programs they intend to cut. Infrastructure was also slowed to almost a halt during the Bush administration, the money was needed for the two unpaid for wars. As with education, the GOP (Koch brothers) don't want the poor or middle class seeking a decent pay scale. Look at how far down the pay scale our jobs have fallen.

The election of 2010, voters fell for the GOP promise of jobs, yet the minute they hit Office they attacked women's health issues and contraception and stopped all job bills without creating one single job. Are you really stupid enough to trust them again when you know their policies will take us right back to where we were under Bush and Cheney. The GOP are preparing for war with Iran, more troops back into Afghanistan, tax breaks for the wealthy and to destroy the EPA. They will run this country as a dictatorship with the Koch brothers at the helm.

again from the bureau of labor stats.

                                          MASS LAYOFFS -- MARCH 2012

Employers took 1,273 mass layoff actions in March involving 121,310 workers,
seasonally adjusted, as measured by new filings for unemployment insurance
benefits during the month, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Each mass layoff involved at least 50 workers from a single employer. Mass
layoff events in March decreased by 20 from February, while the number of
associated initial claims increased by 1,847. In March, 261 mass layoff
events were reported in the manufacturing sector, seasonally adjusted,
resulting in 26,348 initial claims. Both manufacturing figures were lower
                                        when compared to February.

Zman, simple question for you: Did Romney support or oppose the government's actions regarding General Motors?

(Hint: Trick question - he opposed it then when it looked like it was an idea that worked, he supported it.)

I kind of wonder what Romney's message is? Just a couple of days ago oil companies came in with record or near record profits. Today, employment numbers still don't look good. Is Romney saying he can get these companies with their record profits to start hiring? That is blackmail. Or is he saying the government should be hiring? I really wonder what plan he has for the economy that isn't already being done outside of doing something illegal. The economy is moving forward, but not fast enough for some. Do we really want a boom and then go to bust again?

Zman, agreed. And small businesses need consumer spending on Main Street which means people working, spending money and paying taxes.

Iit is Congress that makes this nation's policies and Congress is too focused on making Obama a one term president to focus on anything else.

It's unbelievable that there are people out there that think we can have the worst economic collapse since the "Great Depression" and should recover in a short time.

Then there are those that blame this massive global economic meltdown on Obama and if we just vote him out everything will get better.

Look closer at the jobs numbers

Bloomberg economists predicted 160,000 job gains
Marketwatch economists predicted 163,000 job gains.

                                              February revised up 19,000
                                              March revised up 34,000
                                              April jobs number 115,000

Total job gains announced were 168,000. That exceeds what the economists predicted.

April saw a slowdown with Easter being late.

Look at new home starts. Companies like Toll Brothers and Lennar are reporting increases on top of the increases we have seen for the previous 6 months. The Wall Street Journal ran an article one week ago today that talked about bidding wars occurring for housing in some markets. People see things are improving and are rushing to take advantage. Even Trulia is reporting increases in housing prices.

Remember, housing has been a drag on the economy for 6 years now.
As housing gains speed, unemployment will come down faster.

It is clear from the posts on here that this country is DOOMED. Sorry but BOTH parties share the blame and we the electorate do as well for voting career politicians into office time and time again.

If you seriously think that both DEMS and REPS will solve anything you are all delusional. The issue with our unsustainable debt was not something that popped up overnight, it has been decades in the making. Constant spending no different than the average American who all 'want' things they really don't need.

An economy built on consumer spending on junk....Washington owned by lobbyists (BOTH PARTIES) and a joker tax code that is unfair to everyone.

Honestly, I did not vote for BUSH and did not care for him and I did not vote for Obama...I HOPED he would honestly change things and while he may be a car-salesman type orator, he has changed little in Washington that will actually save this country. Romney probably will not change anything as well...you see, when you continue to vote for corrupt/lying members of Congress you get what you deserve... a dysfunctional Government that actually thinks it is above the very same people that should control them.

Harsh reality, but true.... until the majority of this country realized that neither party truly represents them, we will continue to be divided 50/50 which is about the ONLY thing that Washington has done well, divided us.

If the hard headed feminists come to their senses and realize their right to get an abortion is not in any danger as the media keeps rolling out in every election. They might see that their ability to support themselves and their families is more important. The media stoops to any level to garnish any vote they can from a subgroup. I saw a sound bite where Romney said"I will overturn Roe vs Wade." That's no bull. it won't happen but I certainly don't want a guy in office to tell me that!

Obama's own words on Inauguration Day: "If we do not make significant improvement in the economy then this is a one term deal."

Well, where is the significant improvement? Matter of fact where is any improvement?

If everyone can get a decent paying job that wants one then everything else takes care of itself. This is quite simple to understand. We must keep trying to elect a leader that will finally focus on the job market. Romney is up next.

Larry, that's what FDR asked Congress to do when he proposed the Civilian Conservation Corps. Luckily for the United States, Congress actually worked with the President in those days and things got done and people went back to work.

Unfortunately, two bitter old men, Cheney and Rove had his ear and he wasn't sharp enough to get rid of them. Well, a new crop of bitter old men now controls the GOP, the Koch Bros., and Nordquist. I voted for Reagan twice, still don't regret it, Obama is more like Reagan than these lunatics.

Moron with his cash for clunkers took too many good used cars off the road and into the junk yards. How many mechanics were put out of work because they couldn't work on those lost cars and trucks? How many people who could afford a used car or truck are walking now that President Obozzo used the clunkers for cash program to bail out GM, the union and Government owned US auto failure?
