Sources close to the Romney campaign said Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is expected to endorse the Republican presidential hopeful at a campaign event on Thursday sources close to the campaign say.
Orlando, Fla. and Pentagon City, Va. – Michele Bachmann will endorse Mitt Romney during a campaign event Thursday in Portsmouth, Virginia, sources within the Romney campaign told NBC News.
The news comes at the tail end of a string of endorsements secured by Romney in recent weeks, following the departure of his chief rival in the race, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.
Party leaders, including House Speaker John Boehner, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry – a former fellow candidate – all soon fell in line.
But Bachmann’s endorsement may represent another kind of victory for Romney, who has tried for months to woo support from the same Tea Party Republicans who found a hero in Bachmann last summer, propelling her own brief run for President.
In Bachmann, he has one of their leaders in his corner.
Bachmann’s former campaign manager, Keith Nahigian, insists the endorsement is outside the realm of politics, pointing to a friendship that developed between the two candidates last fall.
“She really liked Romney during all the debates. Really liked him behind the stage, behind the scenes,” Nahigian said. “He was so polite to her every time they saw each other.”
Nahigian was reached by telephone tonight as he left a fundraiser for Romney at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Pentagon City.
“Ever since she got out of the race, he’s called her,” Nahigian said.
For Bachmann, the endorsement represents the end of a journey from fiery presidential candidate slinging arrows at the establishment to self-described unifier.
“I want my voice to be one of uniting our party, the independents, the mainstream, the conservatives, evangelicals, the Tea Party movement,” she said during a recent appearance on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’"
“I’m waiting,” Bachmann said, “for our party to come together and help in that process.”
That moment seems to have arrived.
The mission to unify her party was not always evident during Bachmann’s run, when she made headlines for asserting Romney and another high-soaring candidate at the time, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, were each complicit in laying the groundwork for President Barack Obama’s national health care plan.
Bachmann created a single moniker for the candidates – “Newt Romney” – and during a bus tour in late December warned crowds that neither candidate could mount an attack on the issue.
“It's not going to happen with Mitt Romney,” Bachmann told a crowd inside a diner in Onawa, Iowa, on Dec. 27th.
“He put that system into effect in Massachusetts,” she continued, referencing the health care plan he launched as Governor in 2006.
Bachmann dropped out of the race on Jan. 4, a day after finishing last among the candidates competing in the Iowa caucuses.

Bachmann is a laughing stock in her own party. What in the name of all things good and decent makes her think she's important enough to "unify" the party??? Bachmann is so deeply deluded about so many things that she is downright scary!!!

She was an IRS lawyer who then stated she was undercover to learn the inside of the IRS so she could be against taxes. The TEA BAGGERS believed that, of course. She took federal monies with her husband and then came out against all federal handouts. Tea Baggers bought that, too. Minnesota would be a whole lot better without Bachmann as a Representative.

Wonder how much she was paid for that and whether will see her like Palin on the public speaking tour. I haven't heard anything from either woman except sound bites. And, even if there was something they are miopic in their thinking, openness and understanding are not their calling cards.

I wonder about the people of this country; They have been brain washed so much by thier religions, ect... I grew up in a town that was surounded by other towns that were mostly a certin religion and I was critized because I wasnt Mormon enough or I was to much of one to others; In Utah all you find really is the extreem LDS or the anti- LDS, they are like that from growing up there one way or another. Most of the LDS people out of state are the cool ones, not all though. Anyways ... I back up the LDS religion because most my family is and I respect and understand where they come from but I will never raise my kids in such a enviorment that is open for so much criticism from people of a religion. It wasn't just the church but the school and neighbors that were so judgemental growing up. It was not easy growing up there and I still have hard feelings but now I believe Im grown and changed because of it and will never teach my kids to not like someone because they dont seem perfect in thier eyes and by the way if they really saw the truth they are the ones that are sinners because God and Jesus has taught not to judge anyone for any reason expecialy something as Race, Color, and Religion. Bachman is a extreemist religious person and that dont belong in politics thats why they say keep religion out of state and government issues.

Pretty seems to be all that Republicans care about. Brains and common sense are something they are opposed to.
Courageous? This about a woman who won't even vote in Congress, and who's submitted very little in the way of legislation. Her shining moment bill-wise? She's opposed to CFL's and wants to go back to the Edison era light bulbs.
No way is Bachmann conservative! Conservatives don't take handouts (or grab-outs) from the government. Bachmann and her husband live off of government checks, including subsidies for his business, getting paid for taking care of foster kids for a few days, her government jobs, and their taxpayer funded health care.

See this is my dilemma; I would like to think we have all
found our Candidate that resembles our personal idea of who we think is qualified
to run this nation, after months of mudslinging being told the other candidate
is nothing less than a liar, dishonest and so on, they want us to just throw in
behind this person they said was un-trustable? You would really think they
would have a sit down of a singular and clear plan prior to this sling-O-thon wouldn’t
you? Then it would all be based upon experience and track record right? My core
beliefs and values are not just transferable; this partisan two party system
will be our undoing! I will abstain rather then vote for someone I don’t like;
to just vote Obama out is just not enough, let’s just face it regardless they
will all get what they want, excessive spending no real cuts to speak of, the staged
bickering and mostly business a usual!
You have to give Michelle Bachmann some credit. She brought the term batsh$t crazy to the national stage. Her criticism of Newt Romney will be used against Mitt and her endorsement brings all 300 of her loyal followers to the Mitt tent. Her negatives should increase Mitt's already high number.
