Brown accuses Warren of harboring 'elitist attitude'

The Massachusetts Senate race took a bit of a sharper turn Wednesday, when Sen. Scott Brown (R) accused Democratic opponent Elizabeth Warren of harboring an "elitist attitude" by way of communicating her policies.

Following a speech on the need for bipartisanship in Washington, in which Brown emphasized his work across the proverbial aisle, the senator took one of his toughest shots personally at Warren.

Asked about a release by his campaign, which labeled Warren an "elitist hypocrite" for declining to pay a slightly higher income tax rate in her Massachusetts filing, Brown told reporters:

"Listen, the bottom line is the way that she's approaching things, knowing better than others how to do things. The federal government can do things better than individual businesses and individuals, I think there is an elitist attitude there in the way that she's communicating to us as citizens and telling us how to do things, who should be taxed, who should not be taxed. I'm going to continue to do what I've always done and that's find solutions.”

That marks a bit of a nastier turn in this race, in which both candidates have emphasized good governance and reformist policies versus each other.

Brown also defended his own solicitation of donations from the Wall Street and financial services community, pointing to the large concentration of that sector in Massachusetts. But he also took a shot at Warren for raising money from liberal heavyweights, too.

"I'm raising money like every other member of the delegation," Brown said. "The president has taken more money than anybody, as you know, and I have raised money on Wall Street and from financial services industries.  As you know, we have the 2nd highest financial industries in the country in Massachusetts. And she's raised money from Wall Street and from George Soros who's a convicted felon, an insider trader. So I have to chuckle at that.”

Pretty Boy Brown, like Romney, has gotten ahead how? And Warren with her middle class academic background is an "elitist," I guess because she's actually smart and has worked hard to earn everything she has in her life?

Brown talks about Liz and her tax filing....what does he have to say about the Presumptive Nominee, Willard, and his tax filing?

Brown, the hypocrit, want to repeal the ACA, while he keeps his 23 year old daughter on his policy courtesy of the US Senate and all taxpayers!

That is RICH considering Brown (R) and Ryan (R) are the most heavily funded by Wall Street in Congress, last I heard.

It's OK to be educated, folks. It should be a given for everyone.

Is Scott Brown saying you can't be a Leader in the U.S. UNLESS you are ineducated?

Another interesting story -- Scott Brown's daughter is on his health insurance thanks to Romneycare. Yet Brown argues that such benefits should NOT be enjoyed by others in the nation.

Here it is, Scott Brown hypocrisy at its finest:

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012/05/01/474099/scott-brown-aca/

"But yesterday, this Tea Party champion and great opponent of Obamacare admitted something astonishing:

his 23 year old daughter is one of the 2.5 million young Americans who are benefiting from a regulation that allows young people to stay on their parents' health care plan until age 26:

"Of course I do,'' the Massachusetts Republican told the Globe. Brown is insuring his daughter Ayla, a professional singer who is 23 years old, under a widely popular provision of the law (the Affordable Health Care Act/Obamacare) requiring that family plans cover children up to age 26."

Nice job buddy. But be careful - you libbies seem to demonize all who have earned a lot, regardless of how hard they have worked.

Now for fun, let's apply Warren's little mis-adventures with heritage. Or is it she's just the low man on the totem pole?

Besides, I know you libbies are super happy about paying for Brown's kids health care, right?

You got lucky in 2009/10, you play both sides to try to hold onto your job. Scott Brown (R-MA) is funded and owned by Wall Street.

Ms. Warren is emphatically not. If she hadn't been blocked by Republicans in Congress, she might have headed up our Consumer Protection Bureau.

Apples and Oranges, even though Scott is trying to appear what he is not.

Elizabeth Warren is a liar and fraud. Every drop of money and every award she has earned while claiming to be Cherokee, when they had to go back to her great great great grandmother to find a drop of indian blood in her, should be taken back. She should go to jail for falsifying job applications. My great grandmother was Apache, and when trying to get government grants for college I was told that wasn't enough to qualify for minority status. So as usual its okay for someone like Warren to lie, but us working folks can't get away with it.

Being supportive of Native American folks is a great thing.

Americans like to tout their heritage....especially Irish or Scots, don't they?

Well, there's pride in having First Nations ancestry as well - and a wish to connect as Warren did. Especially if you care about people, as Warren does.

While you are busy extolling the virtues of parents being able to cover their children on insurance until age 26, it became a necessary concession when our government decided that regardless of a student's actual independence (e.g. living on their own, being self supporting, paying their own taxes, working, being eligible to vote and enlist in the army, being old enough to drink alcohol, etc) was not going to make a difference in the student's evaluation for financial aid....parents income and assets are held against students until age 24....so why don't we be honest and admit that the government wants us to nanny our children, keep them out of the workforce, well beyond the legal age of majority.

There are more than a few questions unanswered here. First, if you click on the link to Brown's campaign release, it points out something I didn't know, that Massachusetts residents can VOLUNTARILY decide to pay 5.85% on their state taxes instead of the standard rate of 5.3%. So if it's voluntary, how is he claiming that Warren is telling anyone who should or shouldn't be taxed by the government? Okay, so he goes on to quote something she said about the wealthy having a "moral obligation" to pay more - that's still not the government telling you how much to pay. And perhaps most surprising of all, the Brown statement indicates that 2000 good Massachusetts citizens voluntarily CHOSE to pay the higher amount in 2008 (hey, good for them!) but then he accuses her of "refusing" to say if she was one of them or not - without offering any evidence to suggest that he himself made the same choice.

"Silly season" is rapidly turning into "WTF???" season.....

I, too, have expressed wonder at the use of blatant vulgarity instead of reasoned discussion, and its continued toleration. And the liberal posts seem to go unchallenged while the more conservative views are collapsed by the community. Exactly who is the community? And while we are railing about the idea of people being told what to do, then why collapse a comment at all, as it is the same as telling me what I should and shouldn't read.
